t’s summer, one of the busiest seasons of the year. Out in the fields, farmers are tending their crops and praying for good weather. Orchard workers check to see that the fruit is not overcrowded. In gardens, folks are trying to keep ahead of the weeds, making sure that their vegetables are getting enough water. On porches in urban areas, people are nurturing tomatoes, peppers, and herbs in pots. Each person involved in the growing process hopes for a good result. A lot of patience, work, and careful decisions go into a achieving a successful harvest. Why do people plant things? Of course, food is necessary for life, but couldn’t someone else do the farming? Is the process really worth all the time and effort? So many things could go wrong. What if there is a drought? What if the traditional methods fail? How do we know when it is time to try something new? Those who are willing to put in the time and care to grow things have the ability to look ahead and anticipate a bountiful harvest. Without that vision, there would be no reason to plant anything at all. Only those who have actually done the work, or have somehow invested themselves in the process, can truly enjoy the results. The Bible has something to say about harvests. In Matthew 9:37, Jesus said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.” And in Galatians 6:9, Paul admonishes, “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we don’t give up.” No matter what it takes, no matter how you are involved, please pray for those who are actively working to harvest a crop for eternal life. Pray for the safety of Global Mission pioneers who are working in difficult areas, and pray that the harvest will be plentiful for all those who are doing their best to tell others about Jesus. Thank you for your ongoing support.
