Joyful Journey
lipstick, laughter and life In the fall of 2015, the Service Auxiliary partnered with the Women’s Center at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center to provide a morning of laughter, fellowship and health education for the women in our community. Keynote speaker Renee Rongen had the audience laughing so hard they were close to tears as she shared her life’s journey. Participants also shared in one of Renee’s passion projects, the Ultimate Pajama Party by donating new pajamas to the Neville House. Breakout sessions for the event covered topics ranging from stroke to pelvic floor health, to what women should know about men’s health issues. It was a fabulous event and we are excited to begin planning for the next Journey event, to be held in the fall of 2017.

The second Chase for Champions event honored our local public safety officers while raising money to build a stronger, healthier community. Thirty-six Chase teams competed in the “Great Race.” Afterwards, they joined other dinner guests to honor the following champions: • Danvers Deputy Fire Chief & Chaplain, Michael Claver • McLean County Coroner’s Office • McLean County Sheriff’s Inmate Services Director, Melinda Fellner and Inmate Assessment Specialist, Jackie Mathias • Bloomington Police Patrol Officer, Nikolai Jones. Proceeds were used on the following purchases made to enhance the hospital’s stroke program.

Stretcher scale for Emergency Department
Advocate BroMenn Medical Center is a Primary Stroke Center and holds an additional designation from the American Heart/Stroke Association: “Get With the Guidelines Gold Plus Target: Stroke Elite Honor Roll.” This means that the hospital treats 75% of our stroke patients in 60 minutes or less. BroMenn Medical Center is the only hospital in the area with this prestigious designation. This is an outstanding accomplishment and wonderful for our community. As our president, Colleen Kannaday, states, “Our Stroke Team is the BEST in the region and our outcomes clearly speak for themselves! I am so proud of our amazing team. We will continue to educate the public on the signs and symptoms of stroke, as early identification and treatment is key. In addition, we will continue to spread the word about our top notch stroke team and our truly exceptional results.”
