BUILDING ON EXCELLENCE Advocate BroMenn Medical Center’s campus modernization project is nearing completion. This two-year, three-story, $53.35 million building project began in May 2010 with a groundbreaking ceremony to commemorate the official start of construction. Completion of the 79,000 finished square foot addition that will replace our Obstetrics, Intensive Care and Step-down units is expected in June 2012. Planning for the facility began over seven years ago and included input from our patients and the community, physicians, nursing staff, our leadership team and health care consultants.

COMFORT ROOMS In both our obstetrics and intensive care patient rooms, you will note a light wood flooring in the center of the room surrounded by a dark wood trim. This lighter wood area helps define the “patient zone” of the room. Rooms also include a “staff” zone for patient charting and a “family” zone with a rocker/ recliner, armoire, table and chairs. Finishes were selected to promote an upscale hotel room feel, with wood cabinetry, Corian® countertops and glass tile trim in the patient bathrooms and beautiful fabrics in the seating area. Lighting, artwork and the color palette in the patient rooms also promote healing and a therapeutic milieu. For the comfort of family and visitors, each patient room features a day bed and recliner or glider rocker. Complimentary WiFi will be available throughout the building.

FEEL THE WELCOMING WARMTH The main entrance to the new patient tower warmly welcomes visitors with an oxidized copper “Circle of Life butterfly sculpture from floor to ceiling. The tray ceiling offers indirect lighting that splashes down on the walls for a softer, warmer feel. Warm earth tones were selected throughout the building. This rich palette promotes a home-like atmosphere and healing environment for our patients and visitors.

ADVANCING MEDICAL CARE To best plan for the advanced technology in our new patient rooms, Advocate BroMenn Medical Center partnered with Hill-Rom’s RoomBuilder® technology to create and plan 3-D images of each room. This allowed our multidisciplinary teams to ensure that the most advanced technology was carefully mapped out to ensure maximum comfort for our patients and efficiency for our staff. In our intensive care patient rooms, Advocate BroMenn selected Hill-Rom Latitude™ Booms. This new technology allows the patient care provider to position the equipment arm and customize its location to the needs of the patient. This also means that patients are able to face the window looking outside if they prefer and are able.

GROWING GREEN Construction for the new patient tower has included several “green” initiatives, including: • “Spoil” of dirt was kept for fill at the new site • Trees and shrubs were relocated • Glass tiles made of recycled glass • Materials and finishes with no or minimal pollutants • High recycled content in vinyl flooring and carpet backing • Energy-efficient Low E and Argon-filled glass • 92 percent of demolished parking garage MedPark II was recycled • White membrane roofing to reduce “heat island” effect In addition, the building features an outdoor rooftop garden area that will soon include lush green grass, plants and art. Views of the garden from our patient rooms will help promote health and healing.
