The lowdown on what’s up with neighborhood businesses

Houndstooth opens

For more than a year and a half, we’ve been hearing about Austinbased coffee shop Houndstooth opening a location in the neighborhood. First, Houndstooth announced it was opening at Skillman and Oram, but then some “unexpected issues” came up, which forced owner Sean Henry to find a new place for his java joint. After that, we heard rumors of it opening at various other places around East Dallas (including a mention or two about Greenville), before Houndstooth finally announced that it was taking over the space on Henderson that The Pearl Cup once occupied. Soon after the announcement in December, we chatted with Henry about his plans for the location and he told us the space would have a “modern feel.” Six months later, all the anticipation has come to a close. Houndstooth has finally opened in August.
New restaurant
In June, when we wrote about the three restaurants that Madison Partners is building next to Trader Joe’s on Lower Greenville, Jon Hetzel with Madison Partners revealed two of the restaurants — B B Bop Seoul Kitchen and Yucatan Taco Stand — but the third restaurant wasn’t official yet. Now we know the third restaurant will be Rapscallion, a new bistro concept brought to Lower Greenville from the folks behind Boulevardier. Boulevardier is a “French-inspired, neighborhood-friendly, chef-driven bistro” in the Bishop Arts District, accord-

ing to its Facebook page, and it aims to stay true to its roots with this new concept, although this one will center around a “modern Southern” menu.
Housing development

Dirt began turning in August on The Grove at Lovers Lane, the newest highdensity housing development from PSW Real Estate. The Austin-based home builder is known for sustainable, urban infill projects, integrating new construction into wellestablished neighborhoods. At 6536 E. Lovers, just west of White Rock Lake, the Grove includes 19 single-family detached homes, ranging from 1,700-2,200 square feet. They’ll have three to four bedrooms and two to three bathrooms, with prices starting in the mid-$300,000s. Like all of PSW’s homes, these will be complete with energyefficient features such as solar systems and spray-foam installation.
1 100% Chiropractic hosted a soft opening in August at Gaston-Garland-Grand across the street from the construction on the Arboretum Village. 2 Elements Massage opened in Mockingbird Commons (the shopping center at Mockingbird and Abrams) in mid-August. 3 A new retailer called PIRCH, which is involved in appliance, plumbing, and outdoor industries, opened in August in NorthPark Center. 4 Denver-based company CorePower Yoga added Dallas to its roster of studio locations by opening a studio in Mockingbird Station. The location is at 5319 E. Mockingbird, right next door to The People’s Last Stand. 5 Dallas-based pet care provider City Vet completed its White Rock location in the corner of Lakeview Shopping Center facing Gaston and opened in early July.
