Hillcrest High School 75th Anniversary Celebration

All Hillcrest alumni can show their panther pride, starting at 5:30 p.m. Friday evening during the high school’s homecoming parade. The valedictorian of Hillcrest’s first graduating class of 1939, 92-year-old Alice Stiff Raley is the honorary grand marshal of the parade. Stay for the homecoming football game as the Panthers take on Thomas Jefferson High School at 7:30 p.m. On Saturday at 11 a.m., an assembly in the Hillcrest auditorium features congratulations from Mayor Mike Rawlings, Principal Ronald Jones, Dallas ISD Trustee Mike Morath, Councilwoman Jennifer Staubach Gates, Councilman Lee Kleinman and Dallas ISD Superintendent Mike Miles. From 11:30 a.m.-4 p.m., alumni can purchase lunch from food trucks in the Hillcrest parking lot, mingle with their classmates, play pick-up games of softball and basketball, or dance to music from a DJ. There also will be a bounce house and face-painting for the kids, with plenty of volunteers supervising and directing activities.

Pumpkins in the Park

On Saturday from 11 a.m.-2 p.m., carve up some fun in Robert E. Lee Park during the second annual “Pumpkins in the Park” fall festival hosted by the Turtle Creek Association. North Haven Gardens is hosts a garden design contest for all ages on Saturday, noon-1:30 p.m. Start creating a fairy garden now using toys, pebbles, small furniture and plants, and submit it by 12:30 p.m. on contest day.
