CONCIERGE Q & A

A member of Les Clef ’s d’Or Atlantic Region, Stephen Morris describes himself as an ambassador for the Prince George Hotel and the city of Halifax. He’s worked in hospitality for over 20 years, starting as a bellman in Lake Louise, Alberta. He’s held many hotel positions but returned to the role of concierge in the last decade. He takes pride in knowing that he can make a huge difference in guests’ experiences, sending them home with unique memories of Nova Scotia.

What’s your favourite way to spend a snowy winter day in Halifax? I love spending an afternoon skating at the Emera Oval on the Halifax Common (page EC7). in the heart of the city. You can bring your own skates or rent some for no cost. There are warming huts if you get too cold and there are also vendors on-site if you want a hot chocolate and a snack. It’s a great way to get some exercise and enjoy an afternoon of fun.

What’s your go-to spot for a delicious weekend brunch? Head to Bistro by Liz (page 57) on South Park street. Each weekend from 11am to 3pm, you can enjoy mouth-watering brunch options while sipping on a complimentary caesar or mimosa with your brunch order.

Where should shoppers go to find a unique Halifax souvenir? At the Halifax Seaport Farmers’ Market (page 55) you’ll find something unique of

Halifax to take home with you. Local vendors set up shop and offer everything from hand-crafted jewelry, pottery, wood carvings and much more.

What’s your pick for a top attraction for families visiting Halifax? I like to send visiting families to the Discovery Centre (page EC9). It’s a great time for both adults and children. With live demonstrations and hands-on exhibits, your family will have fun learning about science and how it’s a part of our everyday lives. With a new facility open on Lower Water Street, you won’t be disappointed.

Where should visitors go to enjoy a locally crafted beer? One of my favorite spots is The Gahan House (page 57) located on the Halifax Waterfront. It has an extensive beer menu, even brewing some on-site. Combined with a fantastic menu, this spot is sure to quench any beer-lovers thirst for that perfect pint. MARCH 2017

LUCK OF THE IRISH

Celebrating St. Patrick’s Day in Halifax? You won’t need a four-leafed clover to have a jolly time at these local Celtic hot spots. • On March 17, the line will start forming at sun-up outside The Old Triangle Irish Alehouse (page 62) on Prince Street. Enjoy traditional music throughout the day, a pint of ale from the old sod, and Irish cuisine like lamb stew. • A local favourite for an after-work tipple, Durty Nelly’s Irish Pub (page 61) on Argyle Street boasts an array of popular pub grub.
