ABOUT THE PLAY FULLY COMMITTED TO LAUGHS
Sam’s challenge is that they are the only reservation manager who showed up for their shift today. In this fast-paced, plate-flying, tray-crashing, phone-ringing tour-de-force, Sam is juggling the demands of a haughty maître d’, a mercurial chef, and a spirited mélange of New York socialites who must must MUST have a table tonight!
Jumping from phone to phone, struggling actor, Sam, makes their living taking reservations at New York’s trendiest shrine to molecular gastronomy. Overworked and underappreciated, Sam is forced to deal with coworkers, friends, family, their agent, and an assemblage of entitled, sniveling, wealthy elite who will stop at nothing to get a reservation at the fully committed establishment.
“Fully Committed”—the trade term for “Sorry, no table for you.”
It’s the a la mode du jour—a chic, high-end Manhattan restaurant—the kind that charges $300 per plate, and takes reservations three months in advance, unless you’re Gwyneth Paltrow or an old-money Park Avenue socialite. Becky Mode’s Fully Committed is a hilarious riff on New York’s social elite foodie culture.

ARTISTIC DIRECTOR’S MESSAGE I am a little nervous writing this program message. It’s the first one I have written since early 2020. Maybe I have forgotten how? I don’t want to mess it up. I’ll go for a walk to clear my brain. Ok, I’m back. That didn’t work. I hope I remember to say how honoured I am to welcome you back to Neptune Theatre for a live, in-person performance. I just really want to make sure I mention that it’s such a genuine thrill to see people coming back in the door to see a real, live, honest-to-goodness play! Surely I won’t forget to acknowledge the amazing support of our donors, supporters and funders who have helped us ride the COVID waves and make it to this point. I’ll take special care to recognize the artists, the crew and the staff of Neptune who have patiently and tirelessly given so much to keep Neptune going. I’ll make sure that you all know what a privilege it is as the Artistic Director of a theatre with live performance happening, to say the words ‘Welcome back.’ That just makes me tingle and weep.
10 _ NEPTUNE THEATRE
As we get back to live performance, it is our job to make sure you feel safe, feel loved and that you leave today feeling entertained. Fully Committed was scheduled in our cancelled season and I am so happy that we managed to salvage it. It’s a treat and a tour-de-force for an actor. I am blessed to work with Breton Lalama (who moved to Halifax just before the pandemic and who you last saw in Pleasureville) on this play and let me share with you that they are a joy to collaborate with. Next up is the chilling and thrilling The Woman In Black, perfect for the Fall. Then we move to a packed Holiday season with “Alice” on this stage and “Scrooge” on the Scotiabank Stage. In October I will be telling you about ACT TWO of this season (Jan-May 2022.) Ok, I have to go. I need to write the program note. I can’t be chatting like this. See you at the theatre.

GENERAL MANAGER’S MESSAGE I would like to echo what Paul and Jeremy have shared in their messages—everyone at Neptune is truly grateful and excited to be lifting the curtain on the 2021–2022 Season. To protect the health and safety of everyone who enters the theatre, Neptune, has introduced new COVID-19 and vaccine policies—for more details go to www.neptunetheatre.com/covid-19-faq. We have also made a number of changes to improve our operational and environmental efficiency. Many of our costumes, sets and props this season will

be creatively “reimagined.” We have transitioned to rechargeable batteries to power the mic-packs that amplify the voices of our musical theatre artists and we are now producing digital House Programs. What has not changed is our commitment to create exciting live theatre that represents the history and diversity of our region and its people on our stage. On behalf of everyone at Neptune—thank you for coming to the theatre,

NOVEMBER 23 - JANUARY 9
RBC CHRYSALIS SPOTLIGHT
It’s been nine months since I moved to Halifax to begin my role as the Chrysalis Intern Artistic Director here at Neptune Theatre. I left the wintery prairies and was greeted with a torrential east coast January rain…curious, excited and ready. It’s been a whirlwind of a journey where I’ve gotten to dive deep into my own practice, values and creativity. What does it mean to be a leader now, after the past couple of years we’ve had? What does the future look like? How can I contribute to building that future? With questions come more questions. With questions also come some answers. Here is what I know:
I am a leader & I am an artist. I am also a wonderful combination of the two: an artistic leader. Having this opportunity has allowed for invaluable growth in my journey onwards. As my time at Neptune nears its end, I’m grateful to the theatres that recognize the leader in me. Thank you to the team here at Neptune Theatre and to the Chrysalis partner organizations in Toronto: Prime Mover Theatre Company & Musical Stage Company. There is much on the horizon to be excited about and I can’t wait to continue the work. For more information about Patricia & what’s next visit: patriciacerra.com
