The
Hottest Show in Halifax.
Visit our Glassworks on the Halifax waterfront for a rare opportunity to witness the practice of an ancient craft. Molten crystal, pulled from a fiery 1300 ºC pot, is shaped, cut and polished into pieces of exquisite beauty. It’s the only place on the continent you can see such a show.

What’s your favourite spot for a summer lunch with friends downtown?
What’s the best way to spend a rainy summer day in Halifax?
2 Doors Down (page 68) on Barrington Street is owned by local chef Craig Flinn. It has a huge local following, showcasing seasonal local flavours. My favourites are the cheeseburger, the ploughman, and the smoked potato chowder.
If it’s raining, grab an umbrella and get going. Spend the day taking in the history and culture of the city. Visit the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic (page EC7) on Lower Water Street, Art Gallery of Nova Scotia (page 23) on Hollis Street, Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21 (page EC7) on Marginal Road, Halifax Central Library (page EC1) on Spring Garden Road, and the Museum of Natural History (page EC7) on Summer Street.
What’s your pick for a can’t-miss day trip destination for visitors to Halifax?
The South Shore would have to be my favourite; leaving Halifax by car and heading down Highway 333 to Peggy’s Cove (page EC1), Chester, Mahone Bay, and ending in Lunenburg. Lunenburg is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the home of the famous sailing schooner the Bluenose II. Consider an overnight stay along the coast if you want to explore longer. What’s one experience every visitor to Halifax should have?
Halifax Citadel National Historic Site (page EC3), built on this spot because of its strategic location in defending the city from attack. Every summer you can find the 78th Highlanders and the 3rd Brigade Royal Artillery in period costume manning their posts. Arrive before noon to witness the 78th Highlanders fire the noon gun, a daily tradition dating back decades. Move on to a guided tour or explore on your own. You can also experience for yourself the full firing power of an authentic Snider-Enfield rifle while dressed in a period military costume.
What’s your favourite spot for a romantic dinner for two?
Local Italian favourite daMaurizio Fine Dining (page 70) boasts fresh pasta made in-house, local seafood, an extensive wine list, great service and atmosphere to match, and let’s not forget dessert. What’s your pick for this month’s must-see summer event?
Continuing until July 7, Scotiabank Centre on Duke Street hosts the annual Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo (page 23). Showcasing civilian and military acts from around the world, the Tattoo features pipes, drums, bands, dancers, acrobats, and gymnasts from Canada, Germany, Kenya, New Zealand, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
