ADVOCATES FOR AFRICA
PROJECT GUIDE 2020
A WORD FROM OUR FOUNDERS JEROD & KATINA
Dear Advocates Family, The first time we set foot on African soil back in 2006, our lives were changed forever. The poverty, suffering, sickness, and the lack of access to the Gospel were simply appalling compared to what we have access to in our Western world. Since then, our every goal has been to speak up on behalf of those who can’t speak for themselves; to help those who can’t help themselves, to empower those who can’t empower themselves ,and to share the Gospel with all who have never heard. It’s making a difference! Men, women, and children are being reached with the Gospel and empowered to provide for themselves and their families. These lives, which have been positively affected through Advocates For Africa, are not the result of our sacrifice alone. God’s grace and good-hearted people like you have made it possible. Together, we all can make a difference. In the next few pages, you’ll be presented with opportunities to make a difference this year. Each project positively impacts the lives of those who need our help. It’s our prayer that you will pray, then partner with us at an amount that is manageable for you. If we all do our part we CAN make a difference by bringing MORE HOPE…MORE COMPASSION…and MORE EDUCATION to Africa.

CLEAN WATER OBJECTIVE To provide a clean, safe, water source within a reasonable walking

(homes and classrooms).
PROBLEM
PROJECT OUTLINE
The third leading cause of death for a child in Africa is directly linked to drinking unsafe water. To make matters worse, the average round-trip distance someone must walk to collect this dirty, contaminated water is seven miles. Students are directly affected as their daily chore is to bring water home on their way from school. Many times these students do not have clean water to drink during the school day, as well. SOLUTION In order to improve overall health for the impoverished of Rwanda, we work with local authorities to identify areas that lack access to a clean water source. We then install clean water wells (community), rainwater
24
We hope to provide the following in 2020: •
8 water wells.
•
50 rainwater harvest systems.
•
500 bucket filtration systems (primarily installed in classrooms serving 120 students per classroom, each day).
IMPACT We estimate this project will improve the health of an estimated 64,000 individuals (4,000 people would have access to these new water wells, 350 people would have access to rainwater harvesting systems, and 60,000 students through bucket filtration.

PROJECT FIVE
SCHOOL UNIFORMS OBJECTIVE To provide school uniforms for children, enabling them to attend school with pride. PROBLEM In most parts of Africa, children must wear a uniform to attend school. Thankfully, Rwanda recently changed this law and is no longer a requirement. However, there are still thousands of children who will not attend due to the shame of not having the uniforms that others have.
At these outreaches, each child in the school also receives a “Book of Hope” (a child-focused version of the Gospel of John). These books are free from our friends at OneHope, but there is a cost associated with transporting them. PROJECT OUTLINE We hope to provide the following in 2020: •
1,000 school uniforms.
•
13,000 Books of Hope.

PROBLEM
PROJECT OUTLINE
Those who live in the rural places of Africa live far below the poverty line. They do all they can to make ends meet and supplement their diets, but sometimes there just isn’t enough. This puts the entire family at risk. SOLUTION Working with the local government and pastors, we identify those in the greatest need. These individuals are not just given a goat, but also training in how to care for and produce income with their goat.

The government of Rwanda has declared that poor hygiene for those living in rural places is a chief concern. Thousands don’t have a basic understanding of cleanliness, nor understand how germs spread. Therefore, very preventable illnesses are running rampant in rural villages. SOLUTION We conduct hygiene training seminars in rural villages where we educate on how germs spread, on the importance of handwashing, female hygiene issues, how to correctly wash food, and on the importance of boiling water. These trainings are primarily made up of women, so in addition to the training, we provide them with “beauty bags”.
