WHY SHOULD I HELP?
The problems facing Africa may seem insurmountable, but together you and I can bring awareness and relief to those suffering in poverty; those without access to education, without access to clean drinking water, and without knowing Jesus.
3.19 Of the 17,098 people groups in the world, 41.8% of them have never heard the name of Jesus. That’s nearly 3.19 billion people worldwide.
33% Over one-fifth of children in Africa between the ages of 6 and 11 and one-third between the ages of 12 and 14 are not attending school.
5<5 Five children under the age of five die every minute in Africa. That’s nearly 2.9 million children per year that die, most from preventable diseases.

HOW DO WE FIGHT stats like these? by bringing hope, compassion, and education to the people of Africa. in fact, that’s the three-fold mission of advocates for africa.

A TALE OF FORGIVENESS Anastasia is a 92 year old women who tragically lost all nine of her children during the Rwandan Genocide in 1994. Recently, while conducting a village outreach, the message of Jesus’ forgiveness was presented. Anastasia listened intently and when the time came to respond, our team watched as Anastasia walked forward to accept Christ and forgive those who murdered her children.
DEALING HOPE IN REFUGEE CAMPS Nearly 70,000 Burundian’s have taken refuge inside a camp in Rwanda. They came to escape the escalating violence in their home country. We were humbled to watch thousands respond to the Gospel message as our team delivered the saving message of Christ.
BIG RESPONSE TO JESUS FILM Thousands of villages across Africa have little to no access to the Gospel. That’s why we train local evangelists to take the “Jesus Film” into the places that are hardest to reach. In 2019, our team visited 42 villages with this film to deliver the message of Jesus and led many to Christ each evening!

the life center project
Ahishakiye, Adeline, and Annonciatha are a few of the women that are a part of our Life Center Project. The Life Center gave them hope, teaching them how to live their lives outside of prostitution. “The Life Center has rescued our lives,” one of the girls told us. Here, they will learn to sew and make local items and upon graduation from the program, they will each receive a sewing machine so that they can continue to earn a living.
FIGHTING THE WATER CRISIS We continue to provide clean water to villages who are far from a clean water source or that do not have access to clean water at all. In 2019, we provided four villages with new clean water wells this year which bring health to thousands of people, and provided gravity catch systems to an entire village. Clean water is bringing new life to these people.
health, hygiene, & food programs
Poor hygiene is a major source of illness. That’s why we conducted two large seminars this year to teach people the importance of hand washing, teeth brushing, and how to reduce the spread of germs. We were also working with the local government authorities who helped us identify those in the most urgent need of food. Recently, we brought three pallets of fortified milk that fed hundreds of children at a refugee camp.

“We Lost Both OF Our Parents” Florance and Aline lost both their parents due to illness in 2019, just one-week apart. When we met them, they were in severe poverty and highly malnourished. Today, they are sponsored by Advocates for Africa to attend school and receive the basic necessities they need to survive, including weekly health and wellness checks, high-protein meals, and all school related costs paid in full.
NEW PARTNERS IN LOCAL SCHOOLS We partner with local public schools to assist in educational materials and school uniforms. Many children will not attend school from the shame of not having a uniform. That’s why we delivered over 1040 school uniforms this year! In addition, we also gave away 13,000 OneHope Bibles and conducted 13 school outreaches.
ADVOCATE CHRISTIAN ACADEMY coming Seeing a greater need for Godly ethical leadership in Africa, we’ve purchased land and will begin construction very soon on the Advocate Christian Academy. This school will be a multi-year project that will educate hundreds of students each year. Primary age through high school seniors will learn the aspects of leadership from a biblical perspective so that they can become the world changers of tomorrow. The land will also provide housing for teachers, missionaries, and visiting missions teams.

a note from our founders You did it again! In the past year you helped to reach a record number of people with the hope, compassion and education they so desperately needed. In fact, because of you, Advocates just celebrated its 5th straight year of growth. This growth allowed us to go further and help people at a deeper level than ever before. Your partnership is making a difference. It’s making a difference in the lives of people like Anastasia, Ahishakiye, Adeline and Annonciatha, Florance and Aline. Their lives have been forever changed because you considered it worthy to reach out and help them. For that, we are eternally grateful. In the next 12 months we will be working very hard to increase our impact even more. Your partnership will be a major key to this. In the next 12 months we will be expanding our evangelism and pastoral training efforts into more countries, constructing a building for the Life Center project, launching our sponsorship programs, and beginning construction on Advocates Christian Academy. Together, we will reach those who desperately need the love of Christ. The difference you’re making is tremendous. Jerod and Katina Smith Founders of Advocates for Africa
