roperly lit streets, walkways and parks are essential to community safety. And extra lighting helps us make the most of our excellent local parks. No wonder residents backed an increase to our lighting spend during budget deliberations. It just makes sense.
Budget 2019-20 funds: extra lighting at Lake Lomandra Park; upgrades to five more streetlights on Glenside Drive; solar lighting at several new bus shelters beginning with Robina Town Centre Drive; and pedestrian lighting around Robina Village. While new lights are great, more needs to be done to ensure our existing lights are doing their job. Many are broken, unreliably connected to power, dim with age or covered in dirt. But you can help get repairs fast-tracked and make sure your street is safer.
A range of recent lighting projects have transformed foreboding spaces into hives of community activity, including: carpark and field lighting at Robina Common; pathway lighting through Varsity Foreshore Parklands; and a new lit walkway though Frascott Park.
Please feel free to get in touch with me if you spot a light that needs some attention. I will check it out immediately and pass it on to City officers or Energex to sort out.
New street lights have also been installed at the Scottsdale Drive off-ramp of Robina Parkway and on Glenside Drive to boost safety for motorists and cyclists. Meanwhile, lights have been installed at busy pedestrian crossings on Assembly Drive and Robina Town Centre Drive.
