T
he Guardian Angels’ Business Directory is a great initiative that will allow all of our families access to a wide range of businesses from within the school community. The businesses advertising here are either families in the school themselves or have a strong connection to Guardian Angels. The hope is that all families will be able to confidently use these businesses in the knowledge that they will be looked after. I encourage all families to keep this hard copy of the directory in a handy location for the occasion when you need to get a quote for goods or services – either in your home or business. Thank you to the school Parents and Friends Association who have been involved in the work of the Directory since the idea was first floated, to Ben Ryan, Matt Whitton and their team of people who have ensured that the Directory has been published in such a professional manner. Assistant Principal’s Message
A
s Assistant Principal Religious Education (APRE) at Guardian Angels Catholic Primary School, one of my responsibilities is to oversee the Religious Education Program for the school. This incorporates two important aspects: 1. Ensuring that the religion taught in classrooms is of a high standard and that this learning area is well resourced; 2. Fostering the religious life of the school, which includes organising prayer, worship, liturgical celebrations and various masses throughout the year as well as facilitating opportunities for Christian community service and social justice. My role also includes providing students and their families with pastoral support whenever needed, liaising with the Southport Parish, particularly in regards to the Sacramental Program, and promoting the wellbeing of all in our school community. I value open communication and working in partnership with parents/carers so please make sure you contact me if you would like to discuss anything about the school or your child/ren, not only in relation to the school’s Religious Education Program but also regarding any other aspects of Guardian Angels Catholic Primary School. Assistant Principal’s Message
G
uardian Angels Primary School is a very busy environment for students and staff with lots of activities occurring in the classrooms and around the school each week. We know that communication is important for all of our community and Guardian Angels has a few key ways to help keep our families up to date with what is happening at the school. All of our classroom teachers email their parent group each week with an overview of what is happening for the week so our parents and carers can keep up with what their children will be doing. Guardian Angels emails out a weekly newsletter called ‘The Guardian’ that provides our community with important dates and information on what is happening each week. All parents have access to the parent portal that requires you to log in and here parents can access student reports or Naplan data on their child, there are also links to policies and procedures or information on our P and F (Parents and Friends) who organise many of the wonderful community events. Guardian Angels also maintains a Facebook page that is regularly updated, and the school will post photos and updates as another way of keeping our community up to date.

Vision and Mission
The Guardian Angels VISION and MISSION is a very important document because it describes the hopes and dreams for our school community and expresses who we are, what we do and how we do it... in fact we could call our vision and mission

F
ollowing is a description of what each of part of this image represents so that you have a good understanding of what we mean when we talk about THE GA WAY. The fig tree has always been an important symbol for our community and therefore seemed the obvious choice as the central image for our new vision and mission.

Above that again, the words in the red section say: We strive to be a connected community, fostering a sense of welcome and belonging... RICH IN RELATIONSHIPS.
In the top left corner is our VISION. The first paragraph says: GUARDIAN ANGELS IS A VIBRANT EDUCATIONAL COMMUNITY GROUNDED IN THE PERSON AND MISSION OF JESUS AND HIS CALL TO FLOURISH.
These relationships in our school are represented by the large branches of the fig tree. Their job is to hold the leaves up high so that they can collect sunlight. In the top right corner, the words in the yellow section say: We strive to be a learning community, challenging and empowering each person… RICH IN KNOWING.
This means that at GA, Jesus is our main role model. We look to him as an example of how we should live our lives, taking advantage of the endless opportunities we are offered and growing into the person God wants each of us to be. In the bottom right corner, you can see soil that supplies nourishment for the fig tree and the deep roots that provide an anchor for the fig tree. These represent our history and shared memories.
The knowing in our school is represented by the small branches and the leaves of the fig tree. They produce and provide the food for the whole tree. Again in the top left corner, the second paragraph of our vision says:
Just above are three statements that reflect our MISSION. The words in the blue section say:
The fruitful outcomes are represented by the fruit of the fig tree. This fruit contains seeds that will grow and flourish into fig trees of the future – and that means our students... they are the fig trees of the future!
We strive to be a faith community, inspired by story and gospel values… RICH IN SPIRIT. The spirit of our school is represented by the sturdy trunk that provides support for the fig tree.

Qualities of Angels – Shared Understandings SPIRIT
Courageous – Being courageous means being brave in the face of fear. You do the right thing even when it is hard or scary. You have confidence to try new things without letting doubts or fears hold you back. When you are courageous, you don’t give up. You admit mistakes. Courage is the strength in your heart. Faithful – Being faithful means staying true to God and to each other. It is standing up for something you believe in without wavering. It is being loyal to others and to yourself. 8
Loving – Being loving means treating people and things with kindness, compassion and friendliness. It is showing care towards all of God’s creation. You express love in many ways, such as sharing a smile, a kind word, a thoughtful act or a hug. Proud – Being proud means feeling satisfied with your achievements and personal success. You feel honoured to be a part of the Guardian Angels community. Spirit Filled – Being spirit filled means having the strength to do the right thing; the ‘good’

Trusting – Being trusting means having faith in someone or something. It is a positive attitude about life. You believe that the right thing will happen without trying to control the situation. Even when difficult things do occur, trust helps us to find the gift or lesson being given to us.
RELATIONSHIPS
Encouraging – Being encouraging means giving support. It’s like cheering others on. When people are encouraged and praised for doing something, they are more likely to try it again. Being encouraged gives us a feeling of being valued and respected. Encouraging others helps them to have-ago and try new things. Inclusive – Being inclusive means that we are supportive and welcoming. When we include others we build a community that values, celebrates and respects all people. When we involve others we make people feel more valued and build a sense of belonging. Just – Being just is about being fair. If you see something happening that you know is wrong, you do something about it. Being a champion for justice takes courage. Respectful – Being respectful means showing respect by speaking and acting with courtesy. Always treat others the way you would like to be treated. Being respectful is about displaying appropriate manners and valuing the feelings of others. Safe – Being safe means being considerate of other people and how our actions might affect them. When we follow the rules, we are acting
in a safe manner and looking after each other. When those around us are thoughtful, we also feel safe both physically and emotionally. United – Being united helps us work and live together peacefully. We feel connected with each other and all living things. When we are united we accomplish more together than any one of us could alone.
KNOWING
Flexible – Being flexible means being open to change. It means finding different ways to get things done and considering new ideas. Happy – Being happy is a feeling of wellbeing. You embrace the opportunities that each day brings and you realise how being involved can lead to new opportunities, fun and joy. Being happy is a choice; a choice that you control. Reliable – Being reliable means that others can depend on you. You keep your commitments and give your best to every job. You are responsible. You don’t forget, and you don’t need to be reminded. You do what you say you will do. Self-disciplined – Being self-disciplined means displaying self-control. With selfdiscipline, you take charge of yourself. You understand that you are responsible for your actions. Self-discipline is about making the RIGHT decisions. Successful – Being successful means you commit to your goals and strive to do your best.
