Bagyong Paeng was a tropical cyclone that hit the Philippines last October 29th of 2022 The disaster lasted roughly 6 days and was affected over 170,977 families as reported by the Red Cross Authority (2020)

Over those days, these families have been greatly affected by the constant rainfall and flooding, causing problems with shelter, lack of safe resources such as water and food, and in the worst cases, death. The Philippines is a nation of foreign media enthusiasts. In 2019, “Avengers: Endgame” of the famed Marvel Cinematic Universe became the highestgrossing movie in the country’s history, garnering

P1,302,454,613 in only 9 days Filipinos also turn their attention to a wide variety of Korean dramas, such as “Crash Landing on You”, “Squid Game”, and “All of Us Are Dead”. Thus, this begs the question: should a ban on foreign media be posed in order to support the Filipino entertainmentindustry?

While it is substantial for Filipinos to encourage their local productions, foreign films and television shows must not be barred Such media serves as a way to introduce individuals to cultures around the globe, displaying aspects like lifestyles, food, languages, and architecture They can even call attention to historical events, further accelerating an understanding for other communities They increase openmindedness and acceptance as they demonstrate accurate representations of groups, helping dissuade harmful stereotypes. Additionally, this show of diversity also fortifies a global interconnectedness as new perspectives and ideas are broughttothetable

ship of Philippine and international creations, what must be done to promote local works? Simply put, there is a need for evolution Fresh concepts should be put forward There are plots that have become so repetitive and clichés overused, which especially applies to a handful of Filipino television shows This causes them to become predictable, and raise little interest Aside from this, marketing must also be improved in ways like making more use of the digital space and highlighting lesserknown indie filmmakers Finally, events such as the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) must be maintained, as they provide a spotlight for Philippine inventiveness and artistry.

As Filipinos continue to express their appreciation for foreign media, they must also be able to patronize the products of their fellow countrymen’s minds After all, the Philippines is home to gifted, adept artists of all kinds, from directors and writers, to actors and musicians

Demonstrating support towards their endeavors would surely strengthen the Filipino entertainment industry not only bringing life to creativity all across the motherland, but impassioning newfound inspiration especially among theyouth

OPINION:LearningKits:UsefulorUseless?

In the year 2019, students were incredibly accustomed to their school textbooks not knowing that a simple leap to the following year would require them to adjust to new learning modes and devices. Picture a textbook but with lesser pages Learning kits became an efficient alternative to textbooks to match the crisis and meet eds up until the present. All information on the bject’s current topic can be nd inside, including several son practices and activity tructions to be guided and stered Because of the ernative class schedules for ter learning cautionary, ic outlines are minimal and usted to fit the appointed etables causing the devices’ ges to be less than an actual tbook

Each student has ferent experiences and ationships with their rning kits while ntinuously creating the ort to be cautious with them it is still school property at end of the day In the rent experiences of students hin the school premises, chers are fond of teaching ir lessons using Powerpoint d everything else flows down m there This lessens the ity of the learning kit, wever, it only applies to the estion of the topic and iews once it becomes posted d available for students to ess in the provided portal less the teachers have added ctices for the students to gage with as a form of dying, the learning kit does ve more of the exercises ovided within the pages ere can be circumstances erein a teacher provides a different” Powerpoint

wherein its content does not entirely match with the learning kit or some information is not written in the device which could possibly be important later on for summative and quarterly exams. This situation can lead to students being heavily reliant on the provided Powerpoint Presentation Though, some teachers do rely on the content written in the learning kit in order to teach Most even require students to pass ungraded tasks during the Guided Instruction Hour that are from the learning kit itself as a mode of selflearning and further improvement and familiarity with the discussed topic as a form of practice While other teachers prefer work submissions online, there are some too who require, though rarely, to pass their learning kits onsite, check the answered activity in their free time, hold onto it until the next meeting, and return it to the students If dug deeper, some students prefer one mode of a copy in holding and utilizing their learning kits: the soft and hard copies. Some students do choose to do work using soft copies since the teachers have already provided soft copies of the entire learning kit content in the portal. They just have to download the required page and answer it on software where it allows an individual to create and edit papers They think it is a faster way especially when one’s brain and keyboard are all that is needed on the table, alongside the properly functioning gadget and the WiFi stability and speed in order to pass it before or on time. One can already write out the

disadvantages from here when it comes to soft copies, one of them leading to physical copies being a solution to its problem However, it is made of paper and it could be easily damaged depending on the accident Further work would also include pass it online, especially taking a clear and goodquality photo of it It can also be heavy to carry back and forth from school and home which could ruin bone structures and other connected systems within a student’s body at a young age Therefore, this is the reason as to why students find alternative ways just to bring their learning kit to school without any hustle as it is required and needed for learning

Students have different views on the learning kit whether they think it is useful or useless. It is determined according to their learning styles, environment, access, belongings, and reliability The learning kit is still required for student ownership within school premises but let us not confuse it for its usefulness to the student itself Many would run to what they think is the most accurate and reliable source of learning content, which is the provided Powerpoint, but common sense would still hit, and they would run back to the learning kit if no such Powerpoint was uploaded Everyone has their own opinions about the usefulness of the learning kit, but for me personally, the advantages and disadvantages would almost even one another out on both sides Therefore, I would say it is useful on its own but not as practical when it comes to my skill, belongings, andotherprovidedneeds

OPINION:Isdigitalart"realart"?

One of the truths of today's world is that it is unequivocally ruled by technology From food and transport to communication and education, its manifest impacts can be easily observed in our daily lives Such technological advancements have even influenced the artistic realm, bringing to life the category of digital art However, a tempestuous debate surrounds this medium can one really consider digitalartas"realart"?

Art is defined by Oxford Languages as “the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power”. Digital art, or artistic activities that involve technology in their creative process, are sometimes disregarded as one of art’s classifications due to its links to computers and the subsequent “inauthenticity” However, digital art does not only involve an artist’s creative skill, as it additionally encompasses their imaginations and aspirations. These prove that digital art can be deemedasactualart

One would argue that, due to the assistance of a computer, digital art feels much like cheating An undo option that lets you correct your mistakes in an instant?

Multitudinous blending modes

that allow you to achieve certain lighting effects with only few adjustments? It starts to seem that a computer is doing a lot of work for for creatives/its users But, despite these conveniences, digital art would still require an individual to explore brand new skillsets and undergo the familiarization of the tools available to them much like its traditional counterpart For example, digital artists that are new to this area of artistic expression would need to learn how to go about the computer programs they would utilize Applications such as Adobe Photoshop and Clip Studio Paint house a vast collection of functions and settings that would take some getting used to 3D modelling can be incredibly difficult to get the hang of, with programs having complex interfaces and processes having hard to followinstructions

Skills gained from traditional artwork are also applied to digital art. Examples of these would include sketching, perspectives, anatomy, and color theory These competencies are further improved through the illustrations that are made. Therefore, even if a creative is guided by technology, there are still plenty of learning and effort that go into digital artwork; the finished products are not simply generated with the click of a button, nor an inputofakeyboardshortcut

Though it might not seem as present in today's time, it's still a good measure to take precaution andfollowtheprotocols

For the most part, stressful but fun! Missed all the memories thatcamewithit

It'sbackandbusy!

Aside from the expertise that makes up a compelling digital art piece, it is also important to remember that creativity and ardor are also present in the mix two valuable cornerstones of art. Firstly, just like in any other art form, creativity is both employed and developed in the production of digital artwork. Products of the imagination can be brought to life, too, by digital art, from compositions, color combinations, to the subjects The digitallyfocused art form is home to passion as well, as it serves the same intentions as any other category of art some being to evoke emotion, to grow closer to the self, and to display beliefsandideas.

Digital art has supplied artists all over the globe with numerous opportunities like bridging them to a wider audience, providing them with a fresh avenue for their inspiration, and leading them to brand new job possibilities

Its beneficial nature is one of the reasons as to why society must appreciate such an art form. In addition, unified communities, passionate expression, and the appreciation of life these aims only prove the definite importance of art in totality to our world Whether you prefer traditional works over digital ones or vice versa, the most paramount things are the purposes of the artistry that surroundus.

I can only reminisce over years gone by as the holidays come knocking on each of our doors, jingling their bells in harmony with the bustling chatter eminent in the city. I can hear the joyous laughter echoing from the back of my mind, memories of old calling out to me. Ateneo Fiesta, John Chamber’s Day, Christmas Party 2022 – all of these memories flutter by like the soft sight of first snow on a cold December day The only prominent snowflake amidst the blizzard of thoughts is the gentle twinkle of notes Music – I can hear several songs playing through each recollection From AtFest 2022, I could hear titles like I Wanna Be Yours from Arctic Monkeys; from John

Chambers Day, the theme song from Spongebob Squarepants; from my class’ Christmas Party 2022, Mabagal by Moira Dela TorreandDanielPadilla

As a result of harmony between notes and rhythm, music gives way to confer new experiences for each person To some, music may be a form of comfort, like the gentle embrace of a long overdue lover coming home for the holidays amidst a cold day To others, music may be their moodformer, the very thing that creates the foundation of how they want to go about theirday

To me, music is all of these things. Like a blank canvas, I use music to help layer my mood, to help paint my emotions, and to emphasize certain elements of my life, experiences, and memories as a person. I consider it to be a major part of my life, an irreplaceable shade of color in my palette Music aids me when like a friend when I need someone to listen to me about my frustrations during exam week, when I need someone to give me undivided attention during the days when everything seems so long and unforgiving, and

types of educational models, especially amidst a global health catastrophe Ateneo de Zamboanga markets an academic backbone called “RIGHT”, which stands for “Responsive, Independent, Guided, Holistic, Technologyassisted Learning”, giving the idea that online classes will be strategically implemented into onsite meetings. However, understandably, this plan has its faults as there are factors that cannot be easily identified, such as bullying andmentalhealthissues

Difficulties have also been present in Sir Calumpang’s experience, as they have been for education as a whole Sir Calumpang mentions that though there are issues, it is all still progress All issues such as the stability and availability of the internet, sudden changes in the weather, sickness, miscommunication, and other unwanted difficulties that cause strain in everyone’s mental health, shorter days for discussion, teachers being active for communication even outside of working hours, and so much more; “all of these are absorbed and evaluated and are taken action ” All of this is progress. When asked if he’d say hybrid learning is better than online for both students and teachers, Sir Calumpang stated “I would not say that; rather, I assume that we are just not yet fully equipped with the ample resources, not yet fully prepared for all its paces just to achieve what the theory

asserts of its beauty if implemented ” He also raised this fact: “Flipped classroom as a form of blended learning for example, has been found to produce excellent assessment results and has been found to yield students of high competence ”

However, when asked if he would prefer to go back to full facetoface classes, he said yes Blended learning is simply a step in that direction, and going fullon facetoface is preferred just to go back to where we left off Concluding the interview, Sir Calumpang leavesuswiththequote,

“Always, it is very important to start from where you le and move on one step at a time.”

With all of us still adjusting to another change in our normal lives, there will most definitely be times of hardship However, looking at our extensive history, human nature has always been to adapt, to learn, and to overcome 2022 has just ended and, despite everything that has happened, we are now entering the new year with high hopes for improvement; forprogress

Butter for denim, chromatic combination of colors around these and everything in between just about described the fashion of the 2000s. Now more commonly referred to as “y2k”, this playful era of style has winked its way back to the fashion scene of today.

Most of us were barely even months old at the height of this period, but that doesn’t mean we can’t appreciate the sheer vivacity of the time! Truly, the y2k era is eons away from dull Characterized too by maximalism, statement pieces, patterns, and layered clothing, it refers to the uture of the late 90’s all e way to the earlytomid 00s Y2k fashion marked curiosity for the future, anks to the advancements technology that were adeduringthis age 2000s fashion is fun d all, but what can be ributed to its abrupt spike

NewJeanstakesK-pop worldbystorm

It hasn’t been long since NewJeans joined the Kpop scene under ADOR Entertainment with members Danielle, Hanni, Hyein, Hyerin, and Minji, and took everyone’s hearts by storm with their refreshing and unique music Their debut seemed to happen out of the blue; there were no teasers, concept photos, nor even the slightest introduction to the members.

Rather, on July 22, 2022, the group dropped their debut’s leading single “Attention”. They would later release another hit entitled “Hype Boy”, perfectly embodying the teencrush concept with an addictive melody. At this point, they had garnered a lot of attention from the public and were slowly climbing the music charts,

breaking records left and right despite being rookies Their songs weren’t the typical concepts you would see in the industry at the time and truly were a breath of freshairin Kpop

Just months later, their music reached more ears, especially internationally, with the release of “Ditto”, a dreamlike song bringing about feelings of solemn love and nostalgia, on December 19, 2022 This was followed by their single “OMG” on January 2, 2023 which also captured the hearts of many Both fans and nonfans enjoyed the music, drawn in by the creativity and talent behind each song By now, it was clear that NewJeans had made their impact on the music industry and would eventually jump into the fashion industry

Going back, their concept was generally reminiscent of the 2000s Y2K aesthetic and in some way, led the trend along with other artists It was not long until the members were also recruited as ambassadors for famous brands, expanding theirreachbeyondKpop.

With over 130 million subscribers, his main YouTube channel “MrBeast” ranks as the fourthmostsubscribed on the entertainment platform. His content revolves around expensivestunts.

Donaldson started his career at the early age of 13, and his channel name then was “MrBeast6000” His content ranged from Let’s Plays to estimating the wealth of other content creators In 2017, after posting a video on “counting to “100,000”, his views greatly increased Over time, Donaldson continuously gained popularity with his videos, garnering millions of views and subscribers It was then that his content shifted from the typical gaming creator into challenge and donation videos, as well as survival challenges and original vlogs When the channel took off, Donaldson hired some of his childhood friends including Chris Tyson tocorunthechannel

Kryz Uy and Slater Young are a wellknown Filipino couple that tied the knot back in 2019. On January 20, 2023, Uy posted a video with the caption, “We’re almost 4 years married, hubs! So glad I’m doing life with you!”. In the video Uy made for her son, Scott Young, she mentioned all the adventures her and her husband, have gone on Uy stated that she and Young made sure to do everything that they wanted to do before having children, like exploring Europe and wine tasting Uy also mentions at the start of the video that “they say having a baby changes your life forever”, a fact that truly reflects inreality

As one may know, h i hild n is no small hard work, a great deal of n people decide n, they need to hat they are financially, and mentally e, the child will in an unstable eople who want need to know their priorities n shares in her nges of being a r juggling work

as a content creator and being a mother, it occasionally pushes her on edge However, through all the anxiety, stress, and worries, Young has always been patient, reassuring, and reliable Both parents make sure to equally divide the workload amongst themselves and be there for each other as a support system, especially when times are rough To balance both work and quality time with family, after a long and busy week, Uy and Young try to bring the kids to beaches, rest houses, or parents’ houses to relax and spend some time together as a family They also bond through playing, swimming, and going to family events

Throughout a child’s life, it is understood that all grow differently Not all children grow at the same pace, and that is okay In a video Uy posted, she mentions that she quickly learned and realized that she got so many things wrong with her firstborn She said that she was not getting enough rest and that she would only feed her child every hour all day With her secondborn child Sevi Young, things took a turn for the better as he slept six to

eight hours and hardly cries From her experiences, she learned that the environment of a child, more so that of a baby, must be changed or put in order to ensure that the child can grow appropriately She backs up the statement with “you can't force your baby to be adaptive because that doesn't work that way. Creating the perfect sleep environment will definitely help with the baby's sleep” With this, making sure that the baby is in an adequate environment ensures positive growth

To bring new life into the world comes with great responsibility. One must make sure to be responsible for their actions towards their children, aiding them through new experiences and growth. As these children will bring upon the next generations in the future, parents are faced with the challenge of shaping them to be decent human beings To ensure the best chances of it, children need both parents’ love, care, and support to flourish in this harsh world to grow in love and harmony starts at home, just as in parents Kryz Uy and Slater Young’s case

It is no wonder that many people admire him and are inspired by his kindness Although some argue that it is ingenuine and merely for the views, Donaldson himself has expressed that his main goal in life is to, as stated in his Twitter post, “make a bunch of money, and then give it all away while doing as much good as possible before [he dies] ” By this, he focuses on addressing both humanity and the environment’s problems, kickstarting organizations such as “Beast Philanthropy”, a food distribution network against world hunger, and “Team Trees”, a fundraiser combating deforestation and encouraging environmental

Past,Present,Progress:ThroughthePandemic byMatthewAngeloQuibilan

2020 was the year that our lives abruptly changed COVID19, an unfamiliar foe, took the world by storm, and people feared for their lives. With that, experts focused on studying the virus and developing vaccines, with healthcare companies like Pfizer, AstraZeneca, and Sinovac making headlines at the time. Now, life has gradually transitioned back to the way it was, and it’s all thanks to vaccines But, how far have we really made it from then?

Over the past few years, society has made great advancements towards a healthier, safer community One of the major developments are the vaccines against COVID19. Back in 2020, there were lots of talk

surrounding the safety and efficacy of these vaccines

The main reason being the different trial reports from persontoperson. Some had beneficial results, while others had adverse reactions. This stage in the pandemic proved useful for researchers, who at the time gathered data from each trial Over time, through research and development, vaccines gained enough stability and were eventually openly administered to the public In fact, by the second half of 2022, the Department of Health (DOH) reported over 70 million vaccine administrations around the Philippines alone, reaching 77.8% of their target vaccinationrate

Aside from vaccines, health has made its way to the

top priority of today’s society

Precautionary measures like handwashing, sanitizing, and the wearing of masks have become standard practices at home, in school, in the workplace, and in other establishments Although most restrictions have been lifted, these practices stay relevant in an effort to promote a healthful environment These instilled precautions have been and will continue to be key steps of protection against diseases inthefuture

All things considered, this pandemic has surely been an opportunity for learning and innovation Even though we’ve developed as far as vaccines, let us not be too complacent and still comply with the necessary safety measures foreveryone's sake

Great Barrier Reef shows signs of environmental recovery byZhoe-AnneGabriellePujida

The Great Barrier Reef, the world's largest coral reef system and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, has been under threat for decades due to the effects of climate change, overfishing, and coastal development Thankfully, recent research has shown that thereefis makingacomeback

In a recent study published in the journal Nature, researchers found that the reef's coral cover has increased by 19 percent over the past decade, following a period of rapid decline This is largely due to improved management, including the implementation of a Marine Park Authority, which has put limits on destructive fishing practices and enforced stronger environmental regulations

The study also found that the coral cover in the northern and central parts of the reef has increased by an average of 35 percent, with some areas showing increases of up to 90 percent These areas were previously considered to be in a state of decline

and are now showing signs of recovery

The study also noted that the recovery of the reef is being helped by the return of key species such as the sea cucumber, which helps to keep the reef clean by eating algae and other detritus. This, in turn, allows coral to grow and flourish

Coral reefs are some of the most important and diverse ecosystems in the world. They provide food and shelter for thousands of species, buffer coastlines from storms and erosion, support fisheries, and help to create a more balanced marine environment Coral reefs also offer opportunities for recreation and tourism, thus providing a valuable source of income for local communities With the effects of climate change continuing to damage coral reefs around the world, it is becoming increasingly important to protect and conserve these vitalecosystems.

It is important to protect our environment because it is essential to our

On June 21, 2022, during what was thought to be a normal research working week in the permafrost section of the Klondike gold fields, Northwestern Canada (Yukon territory), the wellpreserved remains of a baby woolly mammoth was found under sheets of ice by miner Travis Mudry

That day, the discovery made headlines and was immediately taken somewhere safer and easier to manage and properly study the mummified animal Miners, politicians, scientists, and even the elders of the Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in, a Yukon First Nation whose part of the region includes the goldfields in which the fossil

was discovered, gathered to take a personal look at the preserved relic of history It was then that the elders named the baby mammoth "Nun cho ga", which means “big baby animal”intheHänlanguage

“ [It] was the most scientific thing I have ever been part of,” Professor Dan Shugar stated in a Twitter post last June 25, 2022, “the most incredible thing about Nun cho ga is the preservation ” This is due to the fact that the baby mammoth, which was thought to be preserved for 30,000 years, still had its skin, hair, intestines, nails, and even its trunk intact. Hypothesised to

be a female by the Uni of Calgary and the Geological survey, mammoth calf was cove a thick layer of mud up discovery.

It was truly a s see for all parties involve not everyday where a p history is discovered, m one that is carefully pre under the movement o The world continue unearth fossils, and wit reflections of the past an we came to be Each livi nonliving being may all different time and of a di place, but the fact still true everyone and everything was born of the same planet: Earth.

The world is indeed a ystery in itself. Nature is compassed with all kinds of arvelous species and onders. With that, scientists dicate their knowledge, lls, and technologies into nging these discoveries to ht Within the past year, entists have come across any significant scientific scoveries, most of which ve led to new studies and me even inventions It is known that inventors often use these discoveries as a basis and blueprint for future advancements that could improve human lives For instance, last June 2022, researchers from the Australian Institute for Bioengineering and Nanotechnology at the University of Queensland have conducted a study on a gel made from proteins in

snake venom that could help stop uncontrolled bleeding. Another great instance was when a team of engineers from the University of Arizona College of Engineering created an engineless Mars glider inspired by the flight of the albatross

Those are only two of many scientific inventions that are yet to come There are multiduinous amounts of scientific discoveries just waiting to be put to use to be made something more in this world, be it immortal jellyfish, catnip repelling against mosquitoes, yellowbellied marmots pausing aging during hibernation, or caterpillar spit breaking down plastic. The possibilities of innovations are endless. Each discovery brings a vast amount of opportunities both

for humanity and the environment. For example, the discovery about caterpillar spit breaking down plastic is an enormous benefit because as all know, plastic pollution hasbeenaproblemforseveral years All in all, people's curiosity and eagerness to explore the world can open new doors and ways to battle major issues that constantly plaguetheplanet

Each year scientists continue to unearth some of the most methodical findings the world has to offer These discoveries and whatever invention may become of them could alter the world within seconds Overall, there is still so much to explore in this world. Now merely marks the beginning of a journey into the depths of the Earth's unknown.

One of these artists being Taylor Swift, a renowned figure in the industry Taylor released a hit album entitled, “Midnights'' on October 21, 2022, which garnered an astounding number of 184 6 million streams within 24 hours of its release The album alone is a story, something to reflect on and relate to Three popular albums released before, 1989, 2017's Reputation, and 2019's Lover also surround thealbum Midnights was an album everyone had been

especially in the Midnights album It mainly revolves around themes of being in love, falling out of love, fearing love, and being capableoflove.

The Midnights album doesn’t only talk about the good in life, but the bad as well. It tells two stories, and overall showcases that one can be capable of love by loving themselves first It talks about growth and resilience, like in the lyric from the track “Bejeweled”, “When I walk in the room, I can still make the whole place shimmer ” It tells us that an individual alone does not need another to be happy; not all people need relationships to be content with life, and that we can simply enjoy the gifts of life, by ourselves by prioritizing and taking care of ourselves
