On March 30, 2023, the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) forwarded the Mindanao PAGASA Regional Services Division’s (MPRSD) warning to the public regarding the rising surface air temperature in Zamboanga Peninsula

According to the organization, the high temperatures are anticipated to persist as the seasonal environment shifts toward the height of the dry season

It is wellknown that this season comes with identified risks including but not limited to heatstroke, dehydration, and heat exhaustion, especially affecting vulnerable ages such as the young and the elderly

According to data from monitoring stations in

Zamboanga City, the city will experience 10 or more days in a row with daytime temperatures above 33 °C in the second half of March. In addition to that, stations in Sindangan, Zamboanga del Norte, and Dumingag, Zamboanga del Sur, experienced daily highs of 33 °C for more than five days straight Throughout the month, a lot of stations in Mindanao, including Zamboanga City, reported no rain for more than five days in a row Additionally, it was noted that nine of Mindanao's monitored stations had more than 15 days with little to no precipitation, with the Zamboanga station recording the most dry days with 24 as of March

A young man, a future Adamson University graduate with aspirations and goals now gone. John Matthew Salilig was an aspiring future engineer with big dreams, a promising student who passed away due to hazing Salilig was found in Imus, Cavite, He had blood and bruises all over his body John Matthew "Mat" Salilig, who was only 24 years old at the time of his death, was pronounced dead at the scene from blunt force trauma Salilig's family, who is still grieving the loss of their beloved son Salilig was the youngest of seven children, and his family described him as such He only wanted to be a part of something and to be accepted He never imagined that his socalled "brothers" would put an end to his life Salilig wasn't by himself

From pigtails and ponytails, to edgar cuts and dyeing flair – an everchanging feature, our hair As the youth grow each year, so do their personalities, which is what makes them unique. Now that we are in the 21st century, tweens, teenagers, and young adults want to express their personality through their appearance as well It allows them to be who they want to be, and for me, there’s nothing wrong with that as long as it doesn’t hurt others physically

If we talk about hairstyles themselves, yes, some could be a distraction However, if we talk about hairstyles affecting students academics, that’s an entirely different topic There’s nothing wrong with students wanting dyed hair or with male students wanting to grow their hair It doesn’t affect their studies, it’s simply their preference. Male students having long bangs

that reach their eyebrows and long sideburns don’t nor wouldn’t hinder them from their academics It’s not about the hair but more on the students’ desire to learn Students shouldn’t have to be reprimanded because of their hair. The only reason students are told to have neat hair is because of the school itself It has its reputation to think of and the school’s government as much as possible, and wants to prevent anything or anyone from harming that

To put simply, haircuts and hairstyles have no relation whatsoever to our academics. They’re simply a way for teenagers to express themselves. For some, it brings comfort and for others it’s a way to show their preferences as of the moment Hairstyles and haircuts reflect and can tell us a lot about a person It’s not just about having cool hair, but something more

From my perspective, weekends tend to be more of a chore and a hassle to deal with rather than days I look forward to. It is important to take note that weekends are sometimes purely just a form of having fun with your friends, resting, and just overall being very laidback However, in my eyes, weekends dread us and they cause us to be more stressed. Instead of being able to rest, we’re worrying about the week after I say weekends are more stressful, because of some personal experiences I

With that said, this inhumane practice must be put to an end, as it greatly undermines a person's worth and subjects them to pain and humiliation all in the name of "initiation" Neither acceptance nor initiation should come at the expense of someone's life In this progressive day and age, it is and has always been time to acknowledge the dangers that come with harmful, outdated practices and address these accordingly

OPINION: CouncilofLeaders:Willthenewbatchprevail?

In the Ateneo de Zamboanga University Junior High School, there are selected representatives that have the responsibility of being a leader, a rolemodel, and a voice for the other students These representatives are what we know as the Council of Leaders On February 22 – 28 2023, the campaign period for the new batch of the Council of Leaders for the SY 23 – 24 took place.

Since the Leaders are constantly changing each year, there will always be new ideas being brought about With all of our experiences from the pandemic and transition from online classes to hybrid learning to full onsite classes, we welcomed new students to the campus A number of potential aspiring leaders filed for candidacy. However, because of this,

had One of those experiences was procrastination, from Psych Central. Procrastination itself is bad, it can lead to unpleasant long lasting effects, one is that it can make a person feel bad about themselves This leads to substandard work ethic and output. Procrastination, in my case, lead to allnighters in order for me to finish what I was supposed to do, which made my weekends not very good Another experience is being a workaholic Now, one may question, “How are you a

there will be a change in how the Council would lead the students. While the previous batch of leaders did an outstanding job of balancing and managing the online and onsite classes, there is a chance that the newer batch of leaders would be able to fully showcase their leadership skills, and leave more of an impact on the students, especially now with the full onsite classes All of this was already proven during the campaign period, where each candidate had shown their own efforts, whether it was going room to room to give their own speeches, posters, or posts on social media, there was a clear display of determination going into everything they did during that time

Despite all of this, each student will still have their own opinions on who

procrastinator AND a workaholic?”

Well, shown by a Youtuber named “Dr. David Maloney'' mentioned that, “Procrastination and Workaholism are on the same side of the dysfunctional coin ” This means that you can be a procrastinator and a workaholic at the same time. This resulted in me working for a long time after I was done procrastinating, because I felt a huge pressure of doing what I was supposed to do, when I could not do it

should or shouldn’t be a leader, and whether or not the new batch of Council of Leaders would successfully fulfill their duties But fulfilling their duties is not the only thing that matters, having successfully made a good impact or effect on their students, as well as standing true to their platforms matter along with it. That’s why the only way we’ll know whether or not a new batch would prevail, is by seeing for ourselves if each of the leaders work towards the goals they all have set for themselves in the following school year However, it seems like we don’t need to wait and see when it comes to this batch, because with the introduction of new ideas, and being able to fully lead the students, this new batch of Council of Leaders is certainly one to take notice of

So in short, weekends have two sides; it's either restful or stressful. Although we might want to enjoy it to the fullest, there are definitely some days we can't Our personal schedules, mindsets, and other factors play a part in how our weekend plays out, and that's inevitable. However, if there's one thing for certain, it's that there is still opportunity to change and adapt a lifestyle that suits our individual needs within the week, and especially on weekends

I find it very productive and healthy to have alone time as it gives me the opportunity to care for myself To be physically capable is to be mentally and emotionally strong

When I have a goal in mind, I put my thoughts and knowledge to it. In other words, desire and the ability to work towards it in my own way keeps me going

Probably AtFest, all the events and competitions are always super fun to watch. Spending time with people I love is also an addedbonus.

OPINION: SmokingDilemma:Aree-cigarettesbetter thantraditionalcigarettes?

Vaping is popularly known to be an electronic or technologized cigarette that learned to be a huge alternative to smoking traditional cigarettes It contains nicotine and chemicals such as propylene glycol, carcinogens, ultrafine particles, and the like. Vaping is deceivingly a “healthier” option or alternative to many people. It has a particular potential that coats the living health risks itleads to

The vapor produced by ecigarettes contains substances that can involve harming specific organs such as the lungs. Nicotine damages the development of the brain, while carcinogens are chemicals that can increase the risk of cancer This actively demonstrates that these chemicals constantly scar our health statuses in general. Concerningly, younger users are more inclined and hooked to the idea of vape because it involves specific

flavoring Additionally, people believe that the usage of ecigarettes is beneficial because it personally helps them distance themselves and quit smoking cigarettes, however, it is still considered tobenowherenearhealthy

As mentioned, younger users are more susceptible to vaping. This circumstance is because it is easily more accessible, affordable, and purchasable Promotional marketing captivates young users to purchase vape with its appealing flavors and desirable packages The entirety of social media also promotes the use of ecigarettes which negatively impacts and influences an individual's decision This perception may make it more attractive to teenagers who are curious about smoking but want to avoid the negative health effects traditional cigarettes hold.

Furthermore, teenagers nowadays are peerpressured to fit in social

groups, which is why they are seemingly more curious about vaping itself. Their peers or generally the people that surround them may dragtheway they behave Moreover, the health risks vaping brings also include the worsening of one’s problems regarding anxiety, depression, and sleep problems. It affects the way our brain functions, the way we concentrate, and memorizecertain things

To sum everything up, regardless of how cheaper and easily more accessible ecigarettes are, it still equals smoking, and could still possibly lead to the chances of health problems There is no doubt that we should discourage the idea of smoking because the public should be aware of the health complications it may bring in the near future Although vaping may be known to be an alternative to traditional smoking, it is still not entirely considered harmless

Definitely the last day of school, althoughifthatdoesn'tcountthenI don't think any other event comes closetoAtfest.

On February 22, 1986, the Philippines witnessed a historic event known as the People Power Revolution, a peaceful mass uprising that led to the overthrow of the Marcos dictatorship The People Power Revolution was a defining moment in Filipino history and has had a lasting impact on the country's political landscape and cultural identity. Now in the present day, more than three decades after the Revolution, the perspective of the younger generation on this important event is often overlooked As the young Philippine youth, we have had the opportunity to engage with our grandparents and teachers –those who remind and teach us about history Without these reminders, we could just be setting ourselves up for failure the next coming years, hence why, learning about history is important, especially for the youth In my interactions with young Filipinos, I have observed that while the People Power Revolution is certainly taught in schools, there is often a lack of in

depth discussion about its historical and cultural significance. It is often presented as a mere footnote in their history textbooks rather than a groundbreaking event that shaped the nation's political landscape and cultural identity

Many young Filipinos do not fully understand the significance of the People Power Revolution and the impact it had on their current lives However, there is a growing interest among the younger generation to learn more about their history, and the People Power Revolution is often the starting point of their curiosity

As a young girl, I believe that it is important to promote historical literacy and encourage young people to engage with their history in a meaningful way Through educational and cultural initiatives, older people such as the elderly, parents and teachers can help the younger generation understand their past and inspire them to create a brighter future for the Philippines

With the movie industry creating great actors known all around the world, it’s surely not easy for actors to take in all the work and schedules given to them Every industry has its downsides, and acting is no exception It has left both positive and negative effects on great actors One of these actors is Liza Soberano, a 25yearold FilipinoAmerican actress, model, singer, and endorser. She has been in a large range of shows and movies, with majority being romanticcomedies, otherwise known as romcoms Soberano began acting in 2011 and made her acting debut in the anthology series Wansapanataym during the same year. Throughout her acting career she had been given minor roles, but “Forevermore” was when she finally broke through in the acting industry After being paired with Enrique Gil, the two have been casted in many movies being each other’s other half. After years of being a wellknown love team, the two confirmed their romantic relationship on October 2014. However, despite

being in a happy relationship while working in the movie industry, Soberano shared in a YouTube vlog released on Sunday, February 26, 2023 the restrictions she’d undergone while working in showbiz She says in the video, “I am 25 years old now, and I think people forget that I’ve been working for 13 years now, since I was 12 years old” Throughout all the films, episodes, and shows, Soberano says she has only dipped into three main genres: comedy, drama, and romance

During all those years she had been acting, she was never asked for her input, thoughts, and ideas. “I’ve sacrificed myself; I’ve sacrificed my freedom; I’ve sacrificed my happiness to present Liza Soberano to the world ” she adds Soberano expresses her utmost appreciation to all who have made her a big shot in the world, she says in an interview, “I wouldn’t have the name that I have if it weren’t for them,” regardless of all the anxiety and stress she has carried with her throughout her acting career in the Philippines. She goes on to say,

implying that she wants to be her own person This 2023, Soberano plans on moving to Los Angeles, California, where she wants to continue her acting career and wishes to pursue a career in the music industry. Soberano still wants to be known as Liza, however she stated in her YouTube vlog that it was a name that was actually chosen for her Becoming her own person requires Soberano to choose what she wants in life A desire she has is to be known as “Hope”, her birth name. Soberano continues to be the allstar that she is just with a twist. Pursuing a career with the goal of voicing her thoughts and ideas as well as being able to make her own decisions makes her a great inspiration to people who look up to her, continuing to shine brightly in their eyes

After starring in the 2022 film “Deleter”, Nadine Lustre, a Philippine actress that made her debut after playing a lead role in the film “Diary ng Panget” (2018), finds her spark for acting once again after a 2year break Before going back into showbiz, Lustre decided to take some time off and do other things unrelated to acting According to her, this was because she lost her passion with film After filming the movie “Deleter”, however, Lustre says in an interview that she realized she was made for acting. There were times when she felt like giving up on the acting business, but after doing this project, she found herself filled with more passion than before As Lustre goes back to showbiz, she says no to future love teams A “love team” in showbiz is when two actors are paired together and soon fans from around the country start making stories and even names for the two In this case, Lustre’s past love team and relationship was with James Reid, a now singer who has been working under new record label called “Careless” Throughout

Lustre’s movies with Reid in the past, she stated in an interview with l!fe: The Philippine Star, that she disliked the ‘competition’ between love teams in the showbiz, she felt as though viewers were making them compete with others even when there wasn’t any competition to begin with Now that she’s found her passion for acting once again, Lustre says that she is “totally past the love team phase”, and is looking forward to starring in movies for her own interest

In the end, Lustre says she’s grateful for the ups and downs in life that brought her to where she is now. Sometimes life throws opportunities and passions at us like a boomerang. It gets thrown at us, goes away, then comes back to us The only difference is that those passions come back to us at an unexpected time We could be on the verge of quitting, yet once they come back, we realize that it’s actually meant for us That’s what happened to Nadine Lustre After almost giving up on showbiz, she tried once more and realized that it was her calling and what she was meant to do

response to her final question "If you win Miss Universe, how would you work to demonstrate this as an empowering and progressive organization?” was to become a transformational leader, and she linked this to her career in fashion design In her words, “Well, I would use it to be a transformational leader As a very passionate designer, [having] been sewing for 13 years, I use fashion as a force for good In my industry, I'm cutting down on pollution through recycled materials when I make my clothing I teach sewing classes to women that have survived from human trafficking and domestic violence And I say that because it is so important to invest in others, invest in our community, and use your unique talent to make a difference We all have something special, and when we plant those seeds [in] other people in our life, we transform them, and we use that as a vehicle for change ” Her answer exhibits a beam of hope and inspiration for helpless communities, granting a sense of assurance that with passion and care, comes eventual but whole transformation

Registration ofSIMcards: 90-day Extension

After its previous deadline being on April 26

Wednesday, the Registration of subscriber identity module (SIM) cards has been extended by 90 days and will come to a close on July 25, 2023. On April 25

Tuesday, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr approved Tuesday the 90day extension of the deadline for SIM registration, Department of Information and Communications Technology Secretary Ivan Uy announced in a news conference in Malacañang DICT Ivan Uy says only about 82 million SIM cards have been registered, and DICT expects 15 to 20 million more SIM cards to be registered

On October 10, 2022, President Marcos signed Republic Act No 11934, or the SIM Registration Act, to “promote the responsible use of SIMs and provide law enforcement agencies the necessary tools to crack down

2023 has been welcomed back to the Philippines after it was postponed for nearly four years, going back to 2019 It was held on February 18 and 19, 2023 at the Glorietta Activity Center and the Palm Drive Center, both in Makati City

This festival is held to uphold Japanese traditions

It showcases Japan’s vibrant culture and holds different activities for people to explore and try out. Food stalls, booths, and games were present for individuals to try out Filipinos were welcomed to join because

on perpetrators who use SIMs for their crimes ” Under the SIM Registration Act, existing phone users must register their SIM cards, while new buyers must present documents for identification. Those with unregistered SIM cards by April 26, 2023, will have their mobile service disconnected This ensures that someone will be held accountable for text messages or calls previously sent incognito or anonymously. The measure is part of the government’s effort to curb nefarious activities that have been prevalent with unregistered SIM cards, such as scams, smishing, identity theft, and other forms of online and mobile fraud perpetrated through text messages Mobile phone users were given more than six months to register their SIM cards, a process that takes no more than 10 minutes But even with the

extension, only 82 million which is equivalent to 49 31 percent of the 168 million subscriber base have registered, this poses a big problem as DICT Ivan Uy mentioned that those who fail to register even within the 90day extension period will lose all services In a lastditch joint effort to make Filipinos register over 100 million SIM (subscriber identity module) cards before the deadline, a lawmaker called on the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) and public telecommunications entities (PTEs) to set up more registration booths or assistance desks This was urged by Camarines Sur Rep. Luis Raymund Villafuerte as he cited the latest survey results by the Social Weather Stations (SWS) that only 55 percent of Filipinos knew just recently that the signup was mandatory Amidst the

preparations for the registration, the SIM Registration Act continues to spur negative reactions from the public as the DICT may gradually cut out services available to unregistered SIMs to "incentivize" the public E G During the 90day extension, those unable to register within 60 days may lose access to their Facebook or TikTok accounts At the 90day mark, they lose all services. With the personal information of millions of Filipinos is at risk as over 1 million records from NBI, PNP, and other agencies leaked in a massive data breach as revealed by a report from the leading cybersecurity research company VPNMentor This further begs the question of whether the SIM Registration Act is meant to penalize citizens, rather than to just “incentivize”.

Greenwashing:Theeco-friendlyfacadebyChristineRosios

Nowadays, the public demand for environmentally friendly products has been rapidly rising due to the increase of environmental problems in the world In response, companies have decided to take advantage of this demand and launched more ecofriendly products towards their customers However, what most people do not know is that unfortunately, some companies put up a front, labelling their products as “ecofriendly” yet often, they are not This is merely a strategy to gain more income and is known as “greenwashing”

A study conducted by advertising consultancy TerraChoice Environmental

Marketing found that from 2006 and 2009 within 2,219 products making green claims, 98% of them were guilty of greenwashing Greenwashing on its own is unethical for many reasons Typically, greenwashing undermines the trust between the consumers and deceives them in the name of income By falsifying the truth of the product, they also harm the environment by misleading the customers into using something that is environmentally harmful For that reason, it continues to allow unprofessional practices to persist and stands in the way of genuine change

Because of how eco

friendly brands easily catch consumer's eyes, greenwashing is seen in both large and small organizations Some examples of this practice are packages that are labeled as 100% organic/natural without much information to prove it; using more earthtone colors such as green to emphasize the 'biofriendly' aspect; and enticing wordings on labels such as 'conscious' and 'going green'

Human benefit should not come at the expense of the Earth That is why it is important to actively support the environment in any way one can against greenwashing and other harmful activities, as well as consider and address the negative impact it leaves on theworld

ExploringthecapabilitiesofChatbots withGPTTechnologybyEvannEzekielAraneta

One of the breakthroughs researchers constantly sought throughout the 21st century has been building an artificial intelligence focused on textbased communication However, the journey to today’s technology has not been easy. Back then, AI displayed faulty and undesired behavior and thus, was incapable of completely functioningproperly

In today’s time, with a prominent shift to the online world, artificial intelligence company OpenAi has created a "chatbot" that utilizes an algorithm that allows the AI to actively learn about a wide range of topics Its text responses depend on what users prompt it to learn, whether it would be as creating

a reply to a certain message from a loved one or creating full books; the opportunities seemlimitless

Unfortunately, along with these limitless options, comes the likelihood of abuse of its power. Take into consideration ChatGPT’s popularity among students. In an online setting, they could easily write a 20page essay in minutes by simply prompting the AI to do it for them This then becomes an obstacle in students’ learning because of the risk of developing dependence on this technology, undermining the importance of honest, personal learning But of course, AI can also be helpful if used in the right way It can introduce unique ideas to users as well as enhance their own Artificial

The iPhone is a line of smartphones produced by Apple Inc in which uses its own iOS operating system. Due to it being a smartphone brand, many people are inclined to purchase it to use in their daily lives As the years go by, Apple introduces new models and features to their phones, and this year is no different

In September 2022, Apple released the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro Max models. However, there have been rumors for the iPhone 15 even before these models had been available for

purchase. The question is, what changes will the iPhone 15 have from the iPhone 14?

The iPhone 15 models will likely be released in September 2023. However, this date is only based on Apple’s yearly releases of other models, and not actual leaked information When talking about the models themselves, firstly, we have the 6 1inch iPhone 15, which is to be the regular model. Secondly, the 6.7inch iPhone 15 “Plus” Thirdly, the 6 1inch iPhone Pro Finally, the iPhone 15 Pro Max One of the biggest changes to be expected is that

the USBC port will be used replacing the previous Lightning port for all iPhones prior to iPhone 15 In addition to that, multiple sources state that the Dynamic Island would be available. The pricings are expected to remain the same, with the regular 6 1inch device starting at $799 and the 6 7inch iPhone 15 Plus starting at $899

As for the updates on the phone itself, Apple is expected to adopt Sony's latest stateoftheart image sensors which allows the camera to capture more light to prevent underexposure and

In 2023, NASA plans to send a crew of astronauts to the moon on the Artemis II mission This mission will be a crucial step towards fulfilling NASA's goal of putting humans back on the moon and eventually sending them to Mars The Artemis II crew will consist of four astronauts, Christina Hammock Koch, Victor Glover, Reid Wiseman, and Jeremy Hansen, who will spend over a month in space, orbiting the moon and testing the equipment and systems that will be used for future missions This mission will also mark the firsttime humans have traveled beyond low Earth orbit since the Apollo17missionin1972.

According to NASA Johnson's director Vanessa Wyche (2023), “For the first

That being said, the Artemis II mission is not just about exploration and discovery, but also about pushing the boundaries of humanity, their achievements, and the future of space travel The mission will require a great deal of preparation, training, and coordination among the crew and the ground team, as well as the use of cuttingedge technology and equipment. This advancement

will have many different capabilities and innovations from the previous models, and can stand as a blueprint for the future models as well With the new features and new models that make it more convenient for users, people expect the iPhone 15 to be another big hit in the world of smartphones and technology alike

will be no easy task for the crew, as there is no denying that there are many risks involved, but it is a necessary step towards development in science, technology, and humandiscovery

With this, the NASA Artemis II crew mission serves as a powerful metaphor for taking a big leap towards fulfilling one's longheld desires, taking on new frontiers and challenging the current times It will require long hours of preparation, courage, and determination, but it will ultimately make the difference between today and the future Just like the Artemis II crew, we must be willing to take risks and push the boundaries of what is possible to achieve our goals, or rather, toreach forthestars.

NAOSwinsVCTPH2023Split1byRhenzoJoaquinPlagata

Valorant Champions Tour (VCT) 2023 PH occurred at The Podium Hall, Mandaluyong City, Philippines Eight teams from around the Philippines with a prize pool of PHP 1,500,000 (approximately USD 27,274) are spread among the participants, drawing hundreds of people from the Filipino VALORANT community. The teams that participated were NAOS Esports, Oasis Gaming, SR Nacague, Action PH, Puggers, Sky Empire, GameLab Alpha, andAbaddonAbyss.

In the grand finals, the 2 teams that were about to clash were Oasis gaming (OAS) and NAOS esports. The final score was 31 in favor of NAOS, meaning, NAOS were the champions of VCTPH2023Split1

At the beginning, things were looking really good forOAS, as they had a 3 point lead ahead of NAOS, the score being (OAS) 5 2 (NAOS) But even though Oasis had a good start, NAOS would soon catch up and overtake their score with

mostly PapiChulo, Ja, and Witz playing an important role in overtaking Oasis, making the score (NAOS) 95(OAS)inround15

"Started off as a really good round for Oasis but what’s good there is that they didn't allow the plan to get settled before the retake and that's what you have to do on these retakes, you get them as soon as the plan goes off so they aren't ready, so they aren't posted on their positions – on their powerful areas of control, and you get them off the couch – off the backpedal, and that's where Oasis can really capitalize off of with their competence." said by Daks (Dathan Rosales) the commentator of thematch

NAOS continued to triumph through more rounds and eventually managed to win the VCT 2023: Philippines Split 1

The final score was (NAOS) 13 8 (OAS), making NAOS the grand finale champion of the event with Papichulo being the MVP of NAOS and Marky being the MVP of Oasis(OAS)

making his opponent miss most of his punches through clever spacing, completely shutting down Brueckner's reach advantage. Throughout the round, Papi acted as if he had no respect for his opponent taunting him, talking, and smiling The second round was more aggressive than the first and both fighters were able to connect more of their punches. Eventually, Brueckner got in close but this would lead to him walking directly into Papi's left straight causing him to be knocked off his

feet which ended the match “If KSI don't want to fight Jake Paul then send me to Jake Paul, and I’ll fight him,” Salt Papi said after the match.

Papi showed extreme confidence throughout the whole match despite his opponent being bigger, having more muscles and having a reach advantage. Papi had displayed his knowledge of distancing which led to his eventual triumph over his opponent thus also proving he is not just a standard influencer boxer.
