THE IMPOSSIBLE HAPPENS AT MARTINSVILLE In this week’s episode of Out of the Groove, host and creator Eric Estepp takes us through all of the crazy stories that came out of yesterday’s Martinsville playoff race. Arguably one of the biggest nights in Chase Elliott’s career, Martinsville generated a lot of storylines that will have fans talking for years to come - some good, some bad about the playoffs system and what effects it has on the sport. Eric also takes us through Kevin Harvick’s 0 0 4

day at Martinsville, and gives us the context for how we got to where we are now. Kevin Harvick was generally considered a favorite to win the championship, and now he’s been knocked out of the final four drivers. How did this happen? Eric has some thoughts. Plus, Eric’s patented Groovy Gauge will definitely surprise viewers, especially given the online reaction to the race. Check out this week’s episode of Out of the Groove to find out the ranking and more!

LESSONS LEARNED AT MARTINVILLE W

hile perhaps not the most exciting race to watch from start to finish, Sunday’s Xfinity 500 at Martinsville Speedway was everything a viewer could have wanted in the final laps as fan-favorite Chase Elliott powered his way to an electrifying victory that landed him his first ever berth in the NASCAR Cup Series’ Championship 4. Meanwhile, Kevin Harvick — the odds-on favorite to win the championship for most of the season — fell just short of securing a place among the four championship finalists. Following are five lessons learned in the final race of the Round of 8. BY JA RED TURNER

THE CHAMPIONSHIP 4 JUST WASN’T IN THE CARDS FOR ALEX BOWMAN, KURT BUSCH

S

eeded seventh and eighth, respectively, entering the Round of 8, Alex Bowman and Kurt Busch had a pretty steep mountain to climb in order to become Championship 4 participants. Despite performing reasonably well in the NASCAR Cup Series’ penultimate round, neither came particularly close to winning a race, which was their most viable pathway for advancing. The dream officially ended on Sunday for Busch and Bowman, who came home fifth and sixth, respectively. “You’re an underdog when you go in ranked eighth out of eight,” Busch said. “We had an engine problem at Kansas (in the first race of the Round of 8), and that just kicked us straight in the shin. From there, we had to win.” Bowman, meanwhile, is trying to see the proverbial glass as half full in spite of being admittedly “bummed” about not getting the opportunity to be part of the Championship 4 at Phoenix. “I think we have a solid shot at getting fifth in points,” the Hendrick Motorsports driver said.

MARTIN TRUEX JR. PUT UP A TREMENDOUS FIGHT

F

acing extremely long odds of becoming eligible for the Championship 4, Martin Truex Jr. knew that a win at Martinsville was his only hope of making that happen on Sunday. And, for a while, it appeared he might just pull it off. Truex led 129 laps and looked to be well-positioned to complete the Martinsville season sweep before surrendering the lead to eventual race winner and fellow playoff driver Chase Elliott with 44 laps remaining. After giving up the lead, Truex made an unscheduled green-flag pit stop because of a loose wheel. He never recovered. “I knew something was wrong,” said Truex, whose Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota crossed the finish line in 22nd, one lap down. “I was really, really tight and had a vibration. The 9 car (Elliott) passed us, and we started dropping and had to pit for a loose wheel. Unfortunate. I think we should be the one in Victory Lane right now, but you have to do it all. Just a little mistake there.”

DENNY HAMLIN AND BRAD KESELOWSKI TOOK CARE OF BUSINESS — BARELY

W

ith Chase Elliott leading and Kevin Harvick rallying back from an early-race mishap, Denny Hamlin and Brad Keselowski found themselves in a nailbiter scenario as Sunday’s race drew to a climactic conclusion. As the final laps ticked down, Hamlin could ill-afford to lose more than one spot and still qualify for the Championship 4, while Keselowski could ill-afford to give up a single position and advance. Undeterred by the reality of having no room for error, Hamlin and Keselowski managed to hold steady and become the only two drivers to qualify for the Championship 4 by virtue of points. “You’re just trying to control what you can control,” Keselowski said. “I can’t control the 4 car (Harvick). I can’t control those other guys. All I can do is really run my own race. That’s what I was trying to do, is run my own race, not get ourselves in any trouble by overthinking it. I knew it was really close with all of us.”

KEVIN HARVICK MADE NO EXCUSES FOR SHOCKING CHAMPIONSHIP 4 MISS

lready struggling with his car’s handling, Kevin Harvick endured a major setback on lap 180 of 500 at Martinsville when he made an unscheduled green flag pit stop to replace a cut tire. Harvick subsequently spent the rest of the race playing catch-up, but his chances of advancing were further complicated when Chase Elliott won, leaving room for just two drivers to advance on the basis of points. Those two drivers ended up being Denny Hamlin and Brad Keselowski, the latter of whom was just a single point ahead of Harvick before Harvick spun Kyle Busch on the final lap in a last-ditch attempt to gain the one position he needed to advance. The plan didn’t work, however, as Harvick spun not only Busch but also himself, and finished eight points behind Keselowski for the final transfer spot. “We just weren’t good,” Harvick said. “Everybody on our Ford just kept battling to make it better and gave ourselves a shot there at the end.”

CHASE ELLIOTT DELIVERED ONE OF THE ALL-TIME GREAT CLUTCH PERFORMANCES

I

n a must-win scenario for advancing to the Championship 4 as the laps ticked down in Sunday’s elimination race at Martinsville, Chase Elliott wrestled the lead away from fellow playoff driver Martin Truex Jr. with 44 to go and pulled away to a commanding 6.577-second win over runnerup finisher Ryan Blaney. Elliott, who did something his legendary father, Bill, never did in scoring a victory at the fabled .526-mile paperclip-shaped oval, will be part of the Championship 4 for the first time in five seasons after eclipsing his previous best of three wins in a single year. Elliott’s performance on Sunday was especially remarkable, as he led 236 of 500 laps is his No. 9 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet on the way to solidifying his place as one of four drivers who will compete straight up for the championship next weekend at Phoenix. “This is the biggest win ever for us,” said Elliott, who prevailed for the 10th time in NASCAR’s premier series.

something terribly wrong when he, by all appearances, deliberately stayed behind teammate Denny Hamlin in the final laps. Jones undoubtedly did this, of course, to give Hamlin a little bit of an extra buffer in the standings, since it became clear that the difference between advancing to the Championship 4 and being eliminated from title contention could end up only being a point or two. Sure enough, that proved to be the case, with Hamlin as well as Brad Keselowski finishing just well enough to avoid elimination. With Jones being a lameduck at Joe Gibbs Racing and having recently signed elsewhere for 2021, he had nothing to personally lose or gain by not passing Hamlin, so he was essentially just being a team player. Who can really fault him for that? 0 1 8

JUST SAYIN’

▶ NASCAR SHOULD RETHINK HOW IT REWARDS REGULAR SEASON CHAMP WITH ALL DUE RESPECT TO THE QUARTET OF DRIVERS WHO WILL FIGHT IT OUT FOR THE

NASCAR Cup Series championship at Phoenix, Kevin Harvick deserves to be one of the four. That’s not going to happen, though, thanks to the current playoff format, which makes it possible for a driver as dominant as Harvick has been in 2020 to not advance if he has a particularly bad or mediocre round, as Harvick did in the Round of 8. Perhaps it’s time that NASCAR consider awarding more playoff points to its regular season champion. Had Harvick picked up, say, 20 or 25 playoff points instead of the extra 15 he collected for winning this year’s regular season title, his championship hopes would still be alive — and the playoff format wouldn’t seem so unfair. 0 2 0

JUST SAYIN’

▶ MARTINSVILLE’S FALL RACE HAS FOUND ITS RIGHTFUL PLACE UP UNTIL 2020, THE FALL NASCAR CUP SERIES RACE AT MARTINSVILLE SPEEDWAY HAS

traditionally been the first event in the Round of 8. This year, however, it became the final race of the penultimate round, which meant that several drivers arrived at the .526-mile track on Sunday with a great sense of urgency knowing they must perform at a high level to avoid elimination. This was particularly evident in the closing laps as anxieties reached a fever pitch for Denny Hamlin, Brad Keselowski and Kevin Harvick — three drivers essentially racing for two remaining spots in the Championship 4. If Sunday’s points scenario had unfolded at a mile or mile-and-a-half track, the drama at the end wouldn’t have been as great. Kudos to NASCAR for making Martinsville a cutoff race. Hopefully, it sticks for a long time. 0 2 2

JOEY LOGANO AND DENNY HAMLIN SET FOR PHOENIX TITLE FIGHT BY ROB TIONGSON

W

hile Joey Logano and Denny Hamlin may be the ying to the other’s yang in terms of NASCAR rivalries, the major commonality between these tenacious racers is that chip on their shoulder towards maximum results. By all means, Logano and Hamlin are among two of NASCAR’s most aggressive, determined, and relentless racers in the Cup Series. Whether it’s with their on-track competition or even when both battle each other for position, it’s about as closely matched as Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader in Star Wars. Like many motorsports rivalries like Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost in Formula 1 and even Kyle Busch and Brad Keselowski in any of the NASCAR national ranks, Logano and Hamlin know when to turn up the wick with each other and with their competition. 0 2 4

Arguably, both drivers have endured and persevered through one of the most intense NASCAR Playoffs since 2004. Certainly, Logano and Hamlin would be quick to point to their respective wins at Kansas and Talladega, victories that came in timely moments for these grizzled racers. Although both drivers thrive at Phoenix Raceway, the path to a duel in the desert wasn’t a guarantee heading into the Round of 8. Just ask Kevin Harvick, the seemingly odds-on favorite to make it to Phoenix, who missed the cut despite 67 Playoff points and nine wins this year. Indeed, Logano made his journey much easier by winning at Kansas, the kickoff to the Round of 8. This allowed the 2018 Cup champion and crew chief Paul Wolfe to focus on Phoenix two weeks ahead of their challengers without worrying about the “96 Hours of Texas” and the tussles at Martinsville. Meanwhile, Hamlin’s path to Phoenix was a bit stressful. Yes, he won at Talladega, a victory that soothed a difficult Round of 16. All things considered, a 15th at Kansas was somewhat soothed by a come-frombehind ninth at Texas last Wednesday evening. As for Martinsville, Hamlin appeared set for a second Playoffs win in 2020. Winning the first stage and placing third in Stage 2, the Virginian

seemed poised for a comfortable dash to the Championship 4. Once the race progressed into the final stage, Hamlin struggled with his car in the waning laps. Ultimately, Hamlin drove to a salvageable 11th place finish, a result that didn’t dampen his confidence and spirits. When asked how important it was to put Martinsville in the rear view mirror, Hamlin smiled and remained as upbeat as ever. “Well, we won the first stage, finished third in the second stage, then we had to go to the back. 11th is all we could come back to,” Hamlin said. “I don’t think we had an awful night. We ran good for the first half of the race. “Once I got back into traffic, changed the tire codes, it was just awful. We can win any week. We know that. Wouldn’t bet against us. Do it at your own risk.” In the end, Hamlin, in the midst of a strong, seven-win season and his third Championship 4 battle since 2014, likes his chances heading into Phoenix, particularly with the fact that he won the fall race last season. Upon reflection, Hamlin noted the challenges of this Playoff

MEMORY LANE format while recognizing this amazing opportunity next Sunday afternoon. “Yeah, we’ve achieved our goal for the year,” Hamlin observed. “Our goal was to get to the Final 4. After that it’s all about circumstances. You have to have a fast car and you have to have things fall your way if you want to be a champion. “Like I say, I agree with Kevin (Harvick), it’s a little different than it used to be. Now it just comes down to one race. We’ve achieved our goal. Two years in a row now making the Final 4. Hopefully we can finish this thing off.” In order for Hamlin to be in position for the win, he’ll have to likely worry about a familiar foe in Logano. For a driver who’s reached the pinnacle of NASCAR just two years ago, one would think he’s a man going after his first title on Sunday with his excitement and enthusiasm for the battle at Phoenix. “Yeah, of course we’re excited,” Logano said. “We’re ready to go. This is a great opportunity. We were able to lock ourselves in a couple weeks ago, be able to breathe 0 2 8

for a minute, get through these last couple races. What a crazy race it was today for those guys trying to get their way in. “Glad we were able to keep some momentum up, get a good starting spot. I don’t know where we’re going to be for next week yet. Hopefully it’s a good starting spot. We’ll fire away and try to get our second championship.” In fairness, the NASCAR Cup Series might be seeing its version of a Tom Brady-Peyton Manning battle in terms of two adversaries who are absolutely perfect for race fans, press, and for each other with on-track clashes (see last fall at Martinsville). However, when both men put those differences aside and focus on the big prize, it honestly makes for an awesome draw and build-up into Phoenix for the 312-lap fight for Cup Series immortality. Much like Manning when he’s asked about going for the big game win, Hamlin sounds like a driver who’s ready for the biggest race of his career.

MEMORY LANE “We obviously had a great Phoenix last year,” Hamlin noted. “Things were a lot different. You had a different aerodynamic package. Certainly, I feel like when I go there, I’m going to roll off and hopefully have a race winner.” As for Logano, he echoes Tom Brady just a few years ago when his pundits wrote him off against the likes of Patrick Mahomes, Lamar Jackson, and Jared Goff. Ultimately, if nobody’s going to believe in Logano and his team, all that matters is that the man himself and his crew believe in themselves like Brady and the New England Patriots. “You guys told me we weren’t the favorites in 2018, so...we’ll believe what we want to believe and we’ll believe in ourselves first,” Logano said. “I’ll tell you again, we’re the favorites to win this thing. That’s how it is in my mind. I said that a couple weeks ago and it doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks.”

MAKING THE CONNECTION

MAKING THE CONNECTION

CHASE BRISCOE PURSUES XFINITY CHAMPIONSHIP DURING TRYING TIME BY ROB TIONGSON

W

hile the adage goes that nice guys finish last, in the NASCAR XFINITY Series, Chase Briscoe would likely change that saying to nice guys finish first - at least nine times. Without a doubt, the 2016 ARCA Menards Series champion and 2020 NASCAR XFINITY Series title contender is one of the kindest individuals in the stock car circles. By all means, the 25-year-old Mitchell, Ind. native is one of the first to greet fans during normal times at the track and he’ll like a tweet or comment on Reddit when he’s not in that No. 98 HighPoint.com Ford Mustang. Certainly, Briscoe, a popular driver who’ll battle for the XFINITY Series title against Justin Allgaier, Justin Haley, and

Austin Cindric next Saturday at Phoenix Raceway, has persevered through trying times on and off the track. Of course, Briscoe pushed through a Helter Skelter parttime season in 2018 after graduating from the NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series, shaking off a maddening stint with a win at the Charlotte ROVAL.

MAKING THE CONNECTION However, the toughest of challenges came this year when he and wife Marissa experienced two miscarriages, trying moments that strengthened their faith while finding solace in each other to persevere through these times. To say the least, Briscoe reflected on his faith with the same genuine candor and relatable emotions that’s made him a man of the people who follow his efforts in motorsports. “I think your faith is easy to be good when times are good,” Briscoe observed. “It’s easy to say, ‘Yea, my faith is great’ when everything is going good. It’s when you have the bad times I think that when you lean into that. For me, the stuff that my wife and I experienced this year, that was the hardest thing I’ve ever experienced in my life. To go through the emotions literally from one day to the other, from the lowest of the lows to one of the highest of the highs, I wouldn’t have been able to get through that without my faith. It blew my mind with the amount of people that had seen our story from the miscarriage and had been led 0 4 0

to faith that they might’ve not been before.” One of those powerful, moving moments of the 2020 NASCAR XFINITY Series season came at Darlington Raceway on Thursday, May 21st, 2020. Battling a hardcharging, cagey Kyle Busch for the win, Briscoe held off the 2015 NASCAR Cup Series champion to take his second win of the season. Following the win, Briscoe, collecting his thoughts and emotions, climbed out of his No. 98 Ford Mustang and proceeded to kneel alongside the driver’s door of his car, a tribute that he’s continued since Darlington with his victories at Homestead, Pocono, Indianapolis, Dover, Bristol, Las Vegas, and Kansas. When asked how his faith has carried him through the highs and lows of the year, Briscoe looked towards being a beacon of hope and light even when he and his wife went through their heartbreaks. “I feel like that’s one thing that separates me from a lot of people,” Briscoe said. “I try to really show my faith and try

to be that light for the people. That even goes with my victory celebration. That’s kind of my thing that I do every time. “A perfect example is when (Recently) someone on Reddit said that they got baptized because of that story. So, it’s just unbelievable. If we can help just one person going through something bad, then it’s all worth it.” Suffice to say, Chase and Marissa Briscoe continually serve as true inspirations with race fans and those who’ve experienced similar setbacks. Along the way, Chase Briscoe, through his faith, the love and support of his 0 4 2

wife and family, and the strong bond with his No. 98 team, has been in the midst of a career season that’s rewarded him not only with a Championship 4 spot at Phoenix, but a promotion to the No. 14 HighPoint.com Ford Mustang in the NASCAR Cup Series in 2020. In spite of his incredible successes this year, Briscoe remains the same, humble and approachable racer who’ll gladly sign an autograph or brighten a fan’s day with a social media interaction. While Briscoe battles for his first NASCAR title of any kind in the XFINITY Series, he’s

likely won the title of being the people’s champion on social media. Given how he’s shared his wins and struggles with fans through the years on Reddit and Twitter, Briscoe didn’t lose perspective of the logistical and true obstacles all of us face As featured in during the COVID-19 pandemic. Cape Cod, MA VERTISEMENT “It’s super cool,” Briscoe said.2020 “This year, that’s the only way we can interact with them. So, Reddit has been great to me. I’m on Reddit 24/7 it seems. My wife gets mad because between Reddit and Twitter, I’m always scrolling and it kind of makes her upset. “A perfect example is when I get on the plane, I’m going to load the race thread

MAKING THE CONNECTION that’s on Reddit and I’ll literally go through every comment that’s good or bad. If they’re bad, I’ll kinda joke around with them and have fun with it. And the same with people that congratulate me. So, I’ve always enjoyed doing that.” Whether it’s with the latest Silly Season news or fans contemplating about the greatest of all time (GOAT) of NASCAR, Briscoe enjoys mingling with fans to keep that connection going while socially distancing in person. No matter the results come Saturday night, the Stewart-Haas Racing sensation recognizes the heart and soul of NASCAR and why it’s important to have a presence on various social media platforms. “Truthfully, it goes back to when I was a fan,” he recalled. “I would tweet at drivers. If they liked it, I was like, ‘Man, that’s the coolest thing in the world.’ I try to be that same way. It’s literally hitting a heart on a tweet and that can make somebody’s day. I love doing that. “I wished that we could have fans here week in and week 0 4 4

out. But, social media is the only way that we can interact with them right now and it’s fun to get on there and see how it’s evolved, just even with this year.” Champion or not when the checkered flag waves at Phoenix Raceway, Briscoe continues to evolve as a racer with grit, desire, heart, and compassion with his earthy, genuine demeanor. Ultimately, Chase Briscoe, as a driver, is the kind of racer, no matter who a fan may support on race day, that proves likeable and genuine as Chase Briscoe, a true fan of NASCAR and auto racing that is always making the connection.

Irwin Blatt, of Bern Township, Pennsylvania, was the first driver to use No. 23 in a NASCAR Cup Series event when he finished 15th during the Sept. 11, 1949, race at Pennsylvania’s Langhorne Speedway. Frank Mundy won two races in car No. 23 during the 1951 season and Al Keller scored No. 23’s most recent victory on March 28, 1954, at Oglethorpe Speedway in Savannah, Georgia. Jimmy Spencer tops the list with 157 Cup Series starts in car No. 23 while driving for Travis Carter. Doug Yates is a distant second with 61. The number’s most recent start came on Nov. 18, 2018, when J.J. interviews various drivers and personalities in the world of NASCAR. Today, he catches up with Zane Smith, driver of the No. 21 MRC Construction Chevrolet Silverado and NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series Championship 4 contender. ▶▶ You’ve made it to the big dance for Friday night at Phoenix but you really had to earn it at Martinsville. With NASCAR picking a perfect track for the Championship 4 decider, you had a moment with Johnny Sauter in Stage 2. In the telecast, it was mentioned how your crew chief Kevin “Bono” Manion was a bit angry and you were calming him down on the team radio. Was that what you were really thinking at the moment or were you a bit upset thinking, “What the hell?” Probably a little bit of both. I probably have a problem with not getting mad or even. I typically get ahead in those situations. So, I’m probably lucky (that) I was in the position that I was or else, it could’ve gotten pretty ugly. Then again, we had a good truck and it was my first time there. We were running really good. I thought I could’ve won that thing pretty easily. I was in a perfect situation too. It was just that the risk wasn’t there for the reward. I had the two ThorSport trucks in front of me and they were all moving each other. If I joined the party where they were moving each other, I probably would’ve been in a perfect situation. But I didn’t see the reward there. I was trying to think of the big picture.

▶▶ That was a good sign of maturity by you to not take the bait and understand that it was Martinsville racing. Tempers have been frayed more than usual in the NASCAR Truck Series. We saw one of the wildest races in Texas the weekend before Martinsville where everyone was just upset with each other. You overcame a pit stop issue to get the first of your two third-place finishes in a row. As a young driver, how do you keep your tempers in check so that you’re not caught up with the high stakes pressure? I really don’t know. I feel like everyday of life, I handle pressure pretty well. It’s just kind of been a part of my life for forever not knowing 0 5 4

what my job will be next year and succeeding for the people that have put up so much for me. I’ve always had a lot on my plate but somehow, I keep my cool. I don’t really know why but I’m not really a high strung person, I’d say. I’d say that translates well into racing. That’s also even with my crew chief. I know Bono was wound up at Martinsville and he had every right to be. I feel like we work really well together. We’re both on the same page of being mellow or when we need to get up on the wheel and get after it. I feel like patience means so much in racing and when to go and when to charge, it comes with experience. The quicker you can learn those things, the better off you can be.

IN THE HOT SEAT ▶▶ Heading into Phoenix, you had a strong topfive finish last year in the XFINITY Series race. Most folks might focus on Sheldon Creed and Brett Moffitt but it might not be a wise idea to dismiss you as a contender too. Do you feel like you’re floating under the radar and have the competition where you want them to be? I sure hope so. I don’t want to be the main pick to win. I’d like to be the underdog. I feel like coming in as the only rookie in this situation is technically being an underdog. I think a lot of people at GMS and Chevrolet know that Phoenix is one of my best racetracks. Regardless if it was the finale, I’ve always had it circled on my calendar. I guess that’s a really good thing they’ve made it the finale. I’ve always told myself that I needed to get there first and then deal with performing once I get into the final four. So, I’ve locked myself in it and we’ve got one more thing left to do.

0 5 6

▶▶ Under these unique circumstances with these “show up and race” weekends, I can’t imagine what you and your peers are thinking when you’re let loose on Lap 1. But what goes on in your mind? I’ve never been a part of chasing a championship in NASCAR. So, I think the level of aggression is going to be up. But, I feel like a lot of it will be about who’ll prepare the best, who can adapt the best, and who’ll be the best at Phoenix. That’s all that matters. It’s just being the best of the rest. I think this is a really good racetrack for me. I’ve never been here in the Truck but I have been in the K&N car and the XFINITY car, so there should be no difference with the Truck.

ROAR! WEEKLY RACING MAGAZINE: NOVEMBER 2, 2020

IN THE HOT SEAT ▶▶ Two of your title rivals will be your teammates (Creed and Moffitt). You’re great friends with both but you have to separate those friendships once you’re in that truck. Let’s say it’s the final lap, last corner, and you’re third, do you go for the hole that you think is there, even if you have to rough up your teammates, or hope that they make a critical error and get that win and title? I’m definitely going for the hole that I think is there. I think anything in life will never be handed to you. You always have to go out and take it. That’s the way I go about things. I’ve never had an opportunity like this before but I’ve made the most out of it this year and I’ll continue to do it at Phoenix. ▶▶ You’ll be back with the GMS Racing team for 2021. How special is it to know you’ve got another year with the team and another shot for the championship? It’s a lot of job security for me which I’ve never had either. I’ve never known what I’d be doing the next year before and this year ain’t even over yet. It’s never been my case. It’s super nice to have that and to work with a team like GMS which is pretty special to chase wins every single weekend. The end goal is to win the championship. It’s another opportunity and I feel like now that I’ve had a year in Trucks and been to these places, it’ll come a lot easier. ▶▶ Now, let’s put you on the hot seat with some Free Association. Tell me the first thing that comes to mind with these words starting with teammates. Probably shouldn’t answer that one! That’s the first thing that comes to mind. 0 5 8

▶▶ Fair enough! Rivals. Screw ‘em! ▶▶ Most overused word in racing. Oh man. I’ve got to think about that. Loose. ▶▶ Yea, I’d agree with that. Superstitions. True! My socks. ▶▶ Favorite video games. I don’t play video games but NASCAR Inside Line and Mario Kart. ▶▶ Two good ones if you’re not a hardcore gamer. All my best friends play games but I can’t get into it. I personally wish I didn’t even have to be on my phone as much as I am. I’m addicted to it!

That is probably one of the most beautiful race tracks there is in the world. For us to get to visit there, we’ll have a good shot at winning there and that’s something super special. Props to NASCAR for making that happen. I think it’s an awesome idea for us to go to a few new places and try new ideas. I’m really looking forward to that.

The online discourse over the playoff format, the comparison to other sports, and more are touched upon in this week’s episode of Danny B Talks, and his conclusions might help set some fans at ease. Danny takes us through why this weekend’s race at Martinsville might have frustrated some fans (especially Kevin 0 6 2

Harvick fans!), but the results were ultimately fair. Danny takes us through the context of the playoff format, what the intended effect is supposed to be for fans and drivers, and what the outcome actually gave us on Sunday. So what was Danny’s final take on the whole thing, especially as a known Chase Elliott fan the way he is?
