THINGS TO WATCH AT LAS VEGAS A
nd then there were 12. With the Round of 16 now in the rearview mirror for the NASCAR Cup Series, it’s on to Las Vegas Motor Speedway and the opening race in the Round of 12. When the green flag waves on Sunday afternoon in Sin City, all eyes will be on the dozen remaining championship-eligible drivers who are looking to race their way into the Round of 8 as quickly as possible. Who will be the first? Following are five things to watch for in the South Point 400. BY JA RED TURNER

THE TOTAL ABSENCE OF FANS
A
fter a nice crowd of roughly 30,000 greeted drivers and teams this past weekend at Bristol Motor Speedway, the stands will be empty this weekend at Las Vegas Motor Speedway thanks to an order from the governor of Nevada that prohibits fan attendance as the state attempts to limit the spread of COVID-19. It wasn’t known until just recently whether fans would be permitted to attend, and the news that they would not be left a bad taste in the mouths of track executives. “To say we’re disappointed that we will conduct the South Point 400 playoff weekend without fans would be a gross understatement,” LVMS President Chris Powell said. “But we must adhere to Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak’s directive that limits gatherings due to COVID-19. While we disagree with this policy, we have no choice but to oblige. We certainly regret this situation for the thousands of race fans who won’t be able to attend our NASCAR-weekend events.”

POTENTIAL SPOILERS
I
f you look at the finishing order from the spring 2020 race at Las Vegas, one thing stands out above all else: Of the top 10 finishers, six are not among the drivers now in the Round of 12. What does this mean for this weekend? Simply that Sunday’s showdown might be a golden opportunity for a driver outside of the playoffs to play the role of spoiler and get a win. Of course, no such driver is hungrier for Victory Lane than seven-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson, who will retire from full-time competition at season’s end. Johnson’s last win came what feels like an eternity ago — on June 4, 2017 at Dover International Speedway. Now with seven more chances to secure a win before he hangs up his helmet as driver of the No. 48 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet, Johnson has likely circled this weekend’s race at Las Vegas — where he’s a four-time winner and came home a strong fifth earlier this year.

A JOLT FOR JOEY
J
oey Logano started off 2020 in impressive fashion, winning two of the four races held before the COVID-19 pandemic halted the season for more than two months. Logano hasn’t won since the series returned to action in mid-May, however, despite being a top 10 driver on most weekends. There’s likely no place where Logano has a better opportunity to get back to Victory Lane than Las Vegas, where he triumphed in Week Two and led 54 of 267 laps. The Team Penske driver begins the Round of 12 ranked fourth in the standings and in a good position to move on to the Round of 8 if all goes relatively well. A win on Sunday in Sin City would be Logano’s third in his last four outings at the 1.5-mile track, where he also prevailed in the spring of 2019. Logano’s most impressive Las Vegas stat might be the fact that he’s led at least 25 laps in eight of the last nine races here.

LOTS OF BUZZ AROUND BUBBA
he NASCAR world turned upside down and Twitter instantly lit up like a Christmas tree with Monday night’s blockbuster revelation that NBA legend and Charlotte Hornets majority owner Michael Jordan will join forces with NASCAR Cup Series driver Denny Hamlin in 2021 to field a single car Cup team for driver Bubba Wallace, who is leaving Richard Petty Motorsports at season’s end. Although several details — including car number, sponsors, team name and manufacturer — remain to be announced, the chance to wheel a vehicle co-owned by Jordan and Hamlin was simply too good for Wallace to pass up. “This is a unique, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that I believe is a great fit for me at this point in my career,” said Wallace, NASCAR’s lone full-time African American driver. “I’m grateful and humbled that Michael and Denny believe in me, and I’m super pumped to begin this adventure with them.” With news of this arrangement still fresh, expect Wallace to be the focus of much attention this weekend.

NO LETUP FROM ‘HAPPY’
K
evin Harvick continued his season-long dominance in the opening round of the NASCAR Cup Series playoffs, winning two of three races and further padding his already massive total of playoff points earned this season for race wins and stage victories. Harvick begins the Round of 12 sitting comfortably atop the standings and — barring disaster — all but assured of ultimately being part of the Championship 4 who will compete straight up for the title at Phoenix Raceway in November. So, this weekend at Las Vegas and in the races between now and Phoenix, Harvick is simply focused on continuing to punish the competition and pile up as many playoff points as possible. He’s also eyeing a season-high 10th victory, which would make him the first driver since Jimmie Johnson in 2007 to score double-digit wins in a single season. Harvick is a two-time winner at Las Vegas, where both of his triumphs have come since 2015 — his second year as part of the Stewart-Haas Racing stable.

RECAPPING JIMMIE JOHNSON’S NASCAR CAREER
■■ Barack Obama is presented with a pair of gloves by Jimmie Johnson during an East Room event at the White House.
HOUSE OF CHAMPS JIMMIE JOHNSON FONDLY RECALLS VISITS TO 1600 PENNSYLVANIA AVENUE BY JA RED TURNER
A
s a seven-time NASCAR Cup Series champion, Jimmie Johnson has had the opportunity to go to a lot of special places and meet and mingle with a lot of famous people. None of those experiences have been any more meaningful than his numerous visits to the White House, where he’s been honored on multiple occasions in a fashion similar to champions of various other sports. Johnson’s White House trips have included meetings with two now-former U.S. presidents — George W. Bush and Barack Obama — who collectively spent a total of 16 years as the nation’s leader. Johnson’s first three championships (2006-2008) came during the Bush administration while his other four championships (2009, 2010, 2013 and 2016) came during the Obama years. So, what, if anything, has surprised Johnson about his numerous visits to one of the most revered residences on planet earth? “That the president has time to say hello, and granted, it’s a small window of time — about 10 or 15 minutes of interaction and he’s gone and off to work — but No. 1, it’s that you’re able to be there with the president,” Johnson told this writer in an exclusive

one-on-one interview in the fall of 2014. “No. 2, it’s just how small it all seems at the White House.” Small? That’s an interesting description for a 55,000 square foot mansion that has served as the official residence and workplace of every U.S. president since John Adams in 1800. “There’s some grass and an old White House and some more rooms and offices, and that’s really it,” Johnson said in the same interview from six year ago with this writer. “I mean, I’m sure there’s a lot more there that I just haven’t — and very few — get the access to see, but it isn’t this monstrous palace that you see in other countries where their rulers live or did live. It’s an old white house.” But a house that Johnson nevertheless considers himself privileged to have spent time in.

IN THE HOT SEAT
IN THE HOT SEAT Landon Cassill
BY ROB TIONGSON
0 2 0
Throughout the season, Rob Tiongson interviews various drivers in the world of NASCAR. Today, he catches up with Landon Cassill, a NASCAR Cup Series racer. ▶▶ As one of the main faces of the Pro Invitational Series and a huge advocate for the eNASCAR platform, how has it been to be a positive catalyst with eNASCAR and iRacing? It’s been an interesting experience for sure. It’s been good for me. Otherwise, I would’ve had no real opportunity to show myself and my personality and my skills even though they may be digital in the simulation. It’s been some good times. It kind of sparked a new relationship with our sponsor Blue-Emu and hopefully, that can provide some opportunities for me in the future. Ultimately, I’m really proud of our sport on how well we pivoted during this time and came together. The NASCAR digital team really deserves a lot of credit for carrying the sport on their back while the operations team and everybody else had to come up with a plan for getting us back to racing in the real world. So, I think it was all executed well, and I’m proud to have had some small part with that. ▶▶ I liked the Blue-Emu “in car camera” in your basement. Who came up with that idea? It was really funny and cool. Yea, that was their idea. Well, it was kinda mutual, but I definitely wanted to do something and was on a call with their team. I said, “Hey, I was thinking of making some kind of backdrop.” And more or less, their creative team said, “Say no more.” And they took it from there. It was pretty cool and we had a good time with it.

IN THE HOT SEAT It really kind of created a platform for me to do a lot of streaming and iRacing and build a community around the sim racing world, which is something I’ve already had the groundwork for, but haven’t really activated in the last couple of years. So, I’ve really spent a lot of time focusing on that cause I think there’s a lot of opportunities there and there’s a great community and we could make a lot of great content for them. ▶▶ With racetracks limited to essential personnel and limited attendance to races without fans, has it been hard to focus in during these race weekends? I think it is hard because it’s hard to get into a rhythm and feeling. We’re all so used to our routine and the schedule with practices and qualifying, driver’s meeting and introduction, the command, and all that stuff. Now, it’s a much different routine. It doesn’t feel like a race is happening. It’s such a weird feeling. I would imagine now, they may be getting used to it a little bit better. So, the drivers are able to create a routine out of this. I feel like they’re making up a rain delayed race. You’re coming in the next day and there’s not as many people there. There’s no practice. You’re just hopping in the car and going. 0 2 2

IN THE HOTSEAT ▶▶ You’ve been going to the track as an emergency driver if something happens to a driver. Are you always having your phone nearby in case something comes up? Yea, definitely. I mean, this may be a little more intentional As featured in than that. I’ve been going to ADVERTISEMENT the track on behalf of JTGDaugherty Racing as their reserve driver. And that’s a team that I’ve had a good relationship for a long time, from the top down. And so, Ernie (Cope) gave me a call when this all came down and asked me about my availability to be a

reserve driver. That really just shows their level of preparedness and professionalism as a team (as they’re) checking all the boxes. I’m fully cleared to drive a car and ready to do it. I have my seat insert and all of my driving equipment. I’ve passed all the screening and filled out all of the paperwork. So, I’m ready at a moment’s notice to drive. Primarily, I’m here for JTG-Daugherty, but if their drivers were OK and somebody else needed me, I could fill the gap because I’m probably one of the few drivers on site and ready to jump in, if needed.

JIMMY MULLIS PREVAILS IN LAS VEGAS SHOWDOWN BY ROB TIONGSON
W
ithout a doubt, Jimmy Mullis and his No. 46 CocaCola Energy Toyota Camry team, owned by Richmond Raceway eSports, had to feel lucky after an exciting 15th round at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Taking the win in Round 10 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, the 20-year-old, fourth-year eNASCAR Coca-Cola iRacing Series racer was ready for a duel in the desert. Then again, it wasn’t going to be an easy task with Tuesday night’s race resembling something out of Daytona and Talladega. Mirroring this year’s NASCAR Cup Series aero and engine package, the margin for error with the 38-driver field was more close than a shaving experience with a Harry’s razor blade.

ROAR! WEEKLY RACING MAGAZINE: SEPTEMBER 24, 2020
However, it wasn’t going to be a completely easy race for Mullis as he started from 23rd on the grid while Michael Conti took the pole over Garrett Lowe, Jake Nichols, Ryan Luza, and Kollin Keister. Once the field got the green flag for the penultimate round of the regular season, it was essentially a battle between Conti and Luza, two of the strongest drivers on Tuesday evening. In fact, there were times in which it looked like Luza would prevail for his fourth win of the season, his first

ESPORTS since the fifth round of the year held at Richmond Raceway. All told, while Luza appeared to be the man to beat, it wasn’t in the cards, no pun intended, as the Texan was among those involved in a Lap 96 incident that collected about 20 drivers in Turn 3. Once the track was cleared up and the field reset from the fracas on Lap 96, Mullis led the way on a critical restart with 35 laps left in the race. However, he’d get passed by Brandon Kettelle just one lap later, as Mullis dropped to 10th before a caution for the No. 6 of Nathan Lyon who tagged the Turn 3 wall before making contact with Steve Sheehan. With 24 laps remaining, Kettelle led the way before getting passed by Blake Reynolds just three laps later. However, with 19 laps to go, Mullis rallied back into the lead with Phil Diaz climbing up from the 34th starting spot to second-place. For the remainder of this race, it was like a thriller motion picture between Mullis and Diaz in a who’ll flinch 0 2 8
first type finish. Both drivers worked their way to the front with adept driving, crash avoidance, and smart, patient strategies. All told, this race belonged to Mullis, capturing his second win of the season by just 0.256-seconds over Diaz, a truly close margin of victory in this 134-lap race. Undoubtedly, Mullis was ecstatic about his second victory of the year. “We showed up with one goal and we achieved that goal!” Mullis tweeted following his second win of 2020. “Winner at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in the eNASCAR Coca-Cola iRacing Series tonight! Incredible car all thanks to Corey Vincent, Christian Challiner, and Taylor Hurst. We head to Dega (just) 15 (points) below the cut, goin’ for it all.” By all means, Phil Diaz was content with his runner-up result, tweeting, “First off, congrats to Jimmy Mullis on the win and Nick Ottinger in third. So hyped to get a second place finish for Mode Media House, Kyle Long, J.R, and all the guys that help the No. 75 Mustang compete each race, including Jarl Teien, PJ Stergios for everything during the race!”

Although Keegan Leahy wound up placing 17th, it was good enough for the Canadian to retake the points lead by just five points over Bobby Zalenski. In fact, Leahy, Zalenski, Michael Conti, Nick Ottinger, and Garrett Lowe, all in the top-five, locked themselves into the playoffs. However, Ryan Luza, Logan Clampitt, and Ray Alfalla currently remain in the Playoffs with Mullis, Graham Bowlin, Brad Davies, Vincent, and Shearburn mathematically in the hunt for the final three postseason spots. Mullis, who prevailed over Diaz and 0 3 0
Ottinger by just 0.458 seconds, bested Blake Reynolds, Michael Conti, Brandon Kettelle, Michael Guariglia, Caine Cook, Alfalla, and John Gorlinsky, who all finished in the top-10. After an intense duel in Las Vegas for Round 15, Leahy and his eNASCAR rivals tackle Round 16 of the eNASCAR CocaCola iRacing Series season at Talladega Superspeedway on Tuesday, September 29th, 2020, at 9:00 PM ET/8:00 PM CT. JEFF BURTON WINS IN BROTHERLY BATTLE AT LAS VEGAS BY ROB TIONGSON
0 3 8
I
f there’s a race that gets overshadowed in terms of sentimentality, it’s the 1999 Las Vegas 400 pitting Jeff and Ward Burton for the win. Heading into the third race of the 1999 NASCAR Cup Series at the 1.5-mile paved Las Vegas Motor Speedway, the Burton brothers were among the top contenders for the win. However, they had to contend with the likes of Jeff Gordon, Dale Earnhardt, Kenny Irwin, Jr., Mike Skinner, and Ken Schrader, the top-five finishers from that year’s Daytona 500. Notably, the third round of the year served as the second opportunity for select Cup drivers to win a million dollar bonus. With the million dollar offerings at Daytona, Las Vegas, Charlotte’s Coca-

Cola 600, the Southern 500 at Darlington, and Talladega 500 in October, it was a good time to duke it out in Cup racing. On this day, the Burton brothers weren’t eligible for the million dollar bonus. However, a top-five finish would net them tickets into the next million dollar race just two months later in Charlotte. Moreover, it was a season of promise for the Burton brothers. In Jeff’s case, he shook off a crash-shortened Daytona 500 effort with a fourthplace finish at Rockingham. Also, he happened to be on the cusp of being a bonafide Cup title contender in Jack Roush’s No. 99 Exide Ford Taurus. Despite finishes of 24th and 28th at Daytona and Rockingham, Ward and his No. 22 Caterpillar Pontiac team, owned by stock car stalwart Bill Davis, had plentiful reasons to be optimistic. In the final seven races of 1998, Burton finished 14th or better in six of those events, an encouraging trend with new crew chief Tommy Baldwin, Jr. In hindsight, it shouldn’t have been surprising to see a Burton versus Burton battle in the Sin City. After all, these two Virginians weren’t exactly new faces at the front of the field given their strong efforts in ‘98. Then again, this was during a time in which Jeff Gordon entered the year as the three-time defending Cup champion who came off a 13-win season in ‘98. Although Gordon cashed in on his third No Bull 5 million dollar bonus and fourth million dollar win in the past two years, he also

MEMORY LANE looked human at Rockingham with an engine failure that relegated him to a 39th-place finish. During those times, it would’ve been foolish to count out Dale Earnhardt, Sr., the grizzled seven-time Cup champion who seemed to be on the verge of a strong season after a winless campaign in 1997 and see-saw like effort in ‘98. While he wasn’t lighting up the track on qualifying, his No. 3 Goodwrench Service Plus Chevy Monte Carlo could be found towards the front before day’s end. Prior to Sunday’s race Bobby Labonte won the pole position with Michael Waltrip, Joe Nemechek, Tom Hubert, and Mike Skinner starting inside the top-five. On the other hand, the Burtons had their hands full with Jeff starting 19th while Ward found himself in 30th. Once the second annual Las Vegas 400 was underway, the Burton brothers didn’t waste a lot of time getting towards the front of the pack. By Lap 38, Ward was up to third while Jeff was in ninth. To say the least, both South Boston, Va. natives wouldn’t relinquish their spots in the front of the field. By Lap 45, Ward Burton rocketed his way into the lead as he drove past two-time Cup champion Terry Labonte. Lurking just six spots behind was younger brother Jeff, who bided his time in this actionpacked race. Compared to the inaugural race which saw 24 lead changes among

MEMORY LANE 12 different drivers, the 1999 edition saw 25 lead changes among 10 different racers. That said, the second running of this race offered more passing opportunities and a track that embraced multiple racing grooves, a spectacle that was missing in the ‘98 race. On Lap 92, Jeff Burton had enough of the slow and steady pace, putting the spurs to his No. 99 car into the lead as he got by his brother Ward. Other than Jeremy Mayfield’s nine lap stint in the lead along with Mark Martin’s 17-lap run at the front and Jeff Gordon’s brief lead on Lap 242, this moment marked the true start of the Burton brother battle in Las Vegas. With five caution flag periods slowing the race down for just 22 laps, the stage became clear for a Dominion State rivalry, one that showed brotherly love and a bit of brotherly shove. Once Ward Burton made haste of Gordon on Lap 243, the brothers traded the lead four times in the final 25 laps. Even for Jeff Burton, it wasn’t exactly the easiest situation to be in, even if it meant racing against 0 4 4
his brother for the win. “That’s stressful,” Burton said in a sunlit Victory Lane. “I can’t imagine being my mother, my father, and my brother just because that’s gotta be stressful (to be) watching. We’ve always wanted it to come down to that and it’s never worked out.” Without a doubt, the Burton brothers made for a memorable battle on Lap 254, just 14 laps from the finish. For nearly five laps, it was an incredible side-by-side struggle with Jeff on the outside lane and Ward running the bottom. Heading into Turn 2, it was the younger Burton who was able to make his No. 99 Exide Batteries Ford Taurus stick like glue on the high groove. Ultimately, Jeff Burton prevailed over his brother Ward by just 1.074 seconds. “Well, I knew that I had to get on the outside for sure to get by him because on the bottom, they could really hold you up,” Burton remarked. “I felt like if I got by him, I could get away a little bit because I thought we were faster. I drove it really deep, just kinda took a chance and fortunately, it stuck. “The Exide Ford didn’t get up in the marbles and it was one of those last ditch efforts. And it just stuck. I’m real proud of all my

guys. They’ve done a great job with this racecar. This racecar’s led an awful bunch of laps.” Basking in an important win in Round 3 of the 34-race season, Burton acknowledged his older brother team’s incredible strides, words that would prove true starting in 1999. “We just were a little better than they were today,” Burton said. “I said at the beginning of the year that they would be really tough. I think today showed you. They didn’t have much luck at the beginning of the year, but they’ve got an awfully good race team.” As Jeff Burton enjoyed his first win of the 1999 NASCAR Cup Series season, older brother Ward, donning a No Bull 5 million dollar challenge cap, hid his disappointment in his post-race interview. “It’s a great run,” Ward observed. “I just wanted that one position so bad. We worked real hard for it. That team is doing a good job for me. That’s what’s going to start happening in the future. I feel really good about it. Caterpillar and all the guys on board, we’re ready to go.” Incredibly, just seven months later, the Burton boys would 0 4 6
ROAR! WEEKLY RACING MAGAZINE: SEPTEMBER 24, 2020
wage in another memorable brotherly battle, this time at the abrasive and challenging North Carolina Speedway on October 24th, 1999. If Ward Burton was disappointed by his close call in Sin City, it had to be a bit of a tough pill to swallow at Rockingham when he’d trail younger brother Jeff to the stripe by just 0.337 seconds. Nevertheless, Jeff’s prediction of his older brother’s fortunes turning proved true in 2000 as Ward took the checkered flag at Darlington in 2000 and ‘01 before winning the biggest race of his career in the 2002 Daytona 500. Meanwhile, Jeff Burton made a name for himself as NASCAR’s outspoken “mayor,” or the series’ leading driver in terms of advocating for positive changes for improved safety and competition. Today, Ward Burton’s legacy continues on in NASCAR with his son Jeb making a name for himself in the NASCAR XFINITY Series on a part-time basis while Jeff’s son Harrison contends full-time in the same division for Joe Gibbs Racing’s No. 20 entry.

CHIP GANASSI RACING’S SILLY SEASON QUESTIONS This week YouTuber Danny B takes us through a host of silly season questions that are still up in the air. This episode he’s focusing a lot on the Chip Ganassi questions, like who will take over some of their open seats, and what remains of the drivers still unaccounted for. Chip Ganassi’s famous quote, “I like winners,” was actually uttered in response to a Ross Chastaine win a few years back. Danny takes us through why this famous owner 0 4 8
statement was so important and relevant to their team choices for next year. The 27-year-old watermelon man has a lot still to accomplish for the team, and Danny B gives us the context. Finally he talks us through the ongoing PR nightmare for Joe Gibbs racing, and how it’s playing out on and off the track. DRIVER Q&A
NOAH GRAGSON EMERGES AS AN XFINITY SERIES FAVORITE BY JOSEPH WOLK IN
Noah Gragson is maturing by day, and his on-track success is visible to the naked eye. The driver of the No. 9 Chevrolet for JR Motorsports just signed an extension through 2021, and he’s ready to prove himself. If he can pick up his early season success, he could bring home another title for JRM. ▶ WHAT’S IT BEEN LIKE TO WORK WITH THIS TEAM AND GROW SO MUCH WITH THEM? “It’s been a big past two or three years for myself, maturing as a 20-year-old to 22-year-old. To add on top of that, racing professionally in the NASCAR Xfinity Series is a big task at hand. It’s a lot of fun to race with JR Motorsports. They’re a great group and they’ve allowed me to be myself and show my personality on and off the racetrack.” ▶ WHAT WOULD IT MEAN TO YOU TO WIN THE CHAMPIONSHIP? “It’s a goal that’s within reach. It would be the biggest accomplishment in my career. We’ve won a couple of races so far at Daytona and Bristol. We have good speed in our racecars and we’re really motivated. Everything’s coming together for the playoffs. It’s a privilege to race for JR Motorsports and compete for a championship. It’s something really humbling for a guy who started racing when he was 13 years old. I kind of got a late start. I never thought I’d be winning races and competing for a championship.” 0 5 0
ROAR! WEEKLY RACING MAGAZINE: SEPTEMBER 24, 2020
▶ WHAT’S YOUR GOAL GOING FORWARD? “Cup is the ultimate goal. We’ll see how this year finishes out and go on to next year. We’ll see where we’re at and at this point next year, we’ll evaluate and see where we’re at. We need to finish out this year strong and have a successful season next year. The ultimate goal is to get to the Cup Series in 2022.”

OFFICIAL NASCAR MEMBER’S CLUB Q&A
ONMC PROFILE: THE MAN WITH BIG PLANS BY DA N GUT TENPL A N
O
■■ Nick David stands with ONMC members Robin Lucas (left) and Liz Errick.
fficial NASCAR Members Club marketing manager Nick David has big plans for the 2020 season. He planned to offer ONMC members opportunities for VIP experiences at 10 different races -- visits that would have included access to driver meetings, pace car rides, driver introductions, garage tours and trips to Victory Lane. The Ultimate Fan Experience has been put on hold due to the pandemic. “We had a really ambitious schedule so we could offer members that great stuff,” David said. “Unfortunately, in March we made the decision not to go to any other races this year. We’re hoping to get back next year, knowing full well that may not be possible.” ROAR recently connected with David for a Q&A.
▶ HOW DID YOU GET STARTED WITH THE OFFICIAL NASCAR MEMBERS CLUB? “I actually joined the company in 2011. I wasn’t a fan of NASCAR and had never been to a race. I stumbled upon it. I left Buffalo and came to Charlotte looking for a new job. I went to my first race and have been here ever since.” ▶ WHAT IS YOUR ROLE WITH THE ONMC? “The majority of it is marketing. I try to find new deals and discounts for members. I try to come up with engagement strategies for current members. Now, the big emphasis is on partnering up with NASCAR partners so we can offer our members good value.” ▶ WHAT IS THE MOST FULFILLING PART OF THE JOB? “It’s talking to members. We see them every year at the same tracks. We’ve become personal friends with them. It’s really cool to go into a place like Daytona or Miami and see our members going on vacations together. A lot of members have become 0 5 2
ROAR! WEEKLY RACING MAGAZINE: SEPTEMBER 24, 2020
friends with one another and travel to tracks together because of the club. We even had members get married at the track in Charlotte, and we were part of it.” ▶ WHAT CAN YOU DO THIS SEASON IN PLACE OF THE TRACK VISITS? “Right now, we’re working with NASCAR to offer fans virtual experiences -- meet and greets. We’re adapting and evolving as best we can. VIP experiences can never be replaced, but we’re trying to figure out the next best thing.”
