AFL South East
Bendigo Community Bank Welcome to the 2017 Season For 20 Clubs in the Mornington Peninsula Leagues, Saturday marks the start of a new season. On behalf of the AFL South East Commission I wish those 20 Clubs good luck for the season ahead. Fine conditions greeted those Clubs who started last week, when I was fortunate enough to see the facilities at Holm Park Beaconsfield, as well as witness very competitive netball and football fixtures between Beacy and Berwick. This week I am looking forward to see the opening of new facilities for the Frankston Bombers at Greg Beck Oval where they take on Dromana. Allowable Player Payments While the Player Points System has been around for some time, this season for the first time we have an Allowable Player Payments System as well, commonly referred to as a Salary Cap. The general philosophy around the Cap is to assist in the equalisation of competitions and to stop the inflationary nature of player payments. Combined with the Player Points System the Cap is also designed to promote club loyalty and junior development. Clubs have been encouraged to set a budget for player payments prior to the season to ensure they are compliant by seasons end. Breaches of the cap will attract heavy penalties. While the administration of the Cap does present some logistical complexities, I commend all clubs for the way they have supported the initiative and strategy behind the introduction of the Cap. Inter League Fixtures Saturday May 13 has now officially been announced by the AFL as the date for the Worksafe Community Championship matches. As such our leagues are very fortunate to be participating in important inter league fixtures on that day. The MPNFL will be playing Geelong on the MCG prior to the AFL blockbuster between the Bombers and the Cats. What a great opportunity for coach John Hynes and his team to perform against the number 1 ranked league on the biggest stage. On the same day SEFNL, coached by Jock Holland, takes on the Hampden League, coached by Jonathan Brown, at the Holden Centre. I wish both coaches and their squads the best of luck in the lead up to the big day.
Women’s Football I am delighted to see the growth in women’s football in the South East Region. AFL South East will be administering Divisions 1 & 2 of the women’s competition (16 teams) as well as the South East Development League which will have 15 new teams in 2017. The Women’s Competitions commence in early May. Participation The AFL South East Commission is in the fortunate position of overseeing one of the biggest participation regions in the country. At an AFL briefing I attended recently I was alerted to encouraging data. In the Local Government areas around the nation, the City of Casey has the 2nd highest number of registered footballers, while the Mornington Shire has the 4th highest nationally. As a region we are the number 1 ranked for participation. On Line Footy Records Last week the on line record for SEFNL was launched. We were delighted to receive the analysis showing there were over 5,000 views of the excellent publicationthrough the website and social media channels. Many people not attending games can see what is happening around the Clubs and it is also a great benefit to Club sponsors to be advertising to many more people Since I commenced I have attended several meetings involving Club Presidents. I have to say we are fortunate to have such a committed group of volunteers and have enjoyed meeting you all. Whatever your measurement of success is in 2017 I wish you all well in achieving those goals.
Good Luck John Anderson RGM AFL South East

AFL Vic Country
Bendigo Community Bank WorkSafe AFL Victoria Country 2017 Season Welcome Excitement is brewing across Victoria for the return of community football. Whether you are playing, coaching, umpiring, volunteering or cheering on your team from the sidelines, the month of April brings with it a feeling of optimism and anticipation for what lies ahead for season 2017. Following the successful implementation of the Player Points System last season, football competitions across the State have been busily preparing for the introduction of the Allowable Player Payment Framework in 2017. Part of AFL Victoria’s Community Club Sustainability Program, the Allowable Player Payment Framework aims to support and grow Australian Football at a community level by supporting volunteers and ensuring club sustainability. The work carried out by Region Commissions, in conjunction with leagues and clubs, has been a terrific endorsement of the policy which will address escalating player payments in community football.
Following the inaugural WorkSafe AFL Victoria Community Championships last year, representative players in the number-one-ranked Geelong Football Netball League will face second-placed Mornington Peninsula Nepean Football League on Saturday May 13. The match will be played as a curtain-raiser to the Round 8 dedicated AFL Country Game between Essendon and Geelong. In addition, the 11 v 12 match between Hampden Football Netball League and South East Football Netball League will be also be played in Melbourne’s sporting precinct at the Holden Centre. This is a fantastic occasion for some of community football’s best senior players to run out and showcase their skills on the game’s biggest stage and provide the opportunity for city and country football fans to come together and celebrate all that is good in country football. Last but not least I would like to wish all players, coaches, umpires, volunteers and administrators the best of luck for the season ahead- I hope it is a successful one for all involved.
In other football news, female football is alive and well in country Victoria with the introduction of new women’s leagues being established across the state. Following the success of the inaugural AFL Women’s League, community football in Victoria is seeing more females lacing up the boots in season 2017 than ever before. The work conducted by our regions with regard to the development of female football programs, participation, and competition management sets country football in good stead for continued growth of women’s football in the future.
WorkSafe AFL Victoria Country Football Manager Jim Cail
Finally, AFL Victoria is delighted to announce the topranked WorkSafe AFL Victoria Community Championships match will be played at the MCG.

Nepean Preview Season 2017 brings with it a real air of excitement.
There are four new coaches in the competition - Leigh Stewart at Pearcedale, Bevan Malloy at Somerville, Brad Arnold at Crib Point and Adrian McBean at Rosebud – all are expected to have positive impacts on their clubs. Round 1 is mouth-watering and in many ways will tell a lot about what we can expect from teams this season. Tyabb has the benefit of playing last week against Hastings when it faces Crib Point this week. The Yabbies have added some talent and the Pies have lost some – mainly in ruckman James Cook. Frankston hosts Dromana – what a great first-up game for the Tigers to see where they’re at against the side many believe are certainties for the premiership. Bombers preseason form has been sensational, beating Frankston YCW, Mt Eliza and Bonbeeach, all Peninsula finals teams last season. The Tigers needed some height and strength around the footy and they have been able to get that. Pearcedale and Devon Meadows go toe-to-toe. The hoops are probably on the rise and Devon will now be in a rebuilding phase. Somerville, which has lost three starting forwards and three starting defenders from their best 2016 side, host Red Hill, who have recruited a couple. Rosebud, which finished third last season, hosts the team many believe will make a significant move – Sorrento. The Buds have a new coach and that will make a significant difference. Sorrento has recruited nothing but A-Graders and will be right there when the whips are cracking. Finally, the premiers, Hastings, who have added a couple, play host to Rye, who have lost the fab-four, as well as Brady Egan. There’s more questions than answers as we head into Round 1, however, things should present a little clear at 5pm on Saturday. Let’s take a look at the ins and outs. The Ins & Outs and what can we expect? Crib Point Ins: Elliot Avis (VAFA), Mitchell Chopping (Peninsula Div), Aaron King (Hastings), Ben King (Hastings), Outs: James Cook (Alberton), Lee Koerner (Somerville), Kain Stratton (Hastings) The general feeling amongst the Magpies in 2017 under new ‘first time’ coach Brad Arnold is that kids are going to be given every opportunity. There hasn’t been a lot of recruiting in the off-season and the loss of ruckman James Cook and run-with player Kain Stratton will be significant. Don’t expect too much ladder movement. Devon Meadows Ins: Matthew Italiano (Essendon FL), Allan Murray (Eastern FL), Outs: Jack Hazendonk (Poowong), Chris Doria (Poowong), Alex Doria (Poowong), Mitch Bond, Rhys Shortis,
8
Bendigo Community Bank Craig Thorne (Elinbank), Troy Aust, Corey Walker, Brandon Wapshot (South East FL), Nathan Dumergue (Southern FL), Steven Mihvec (Karingal), Chris & Andrew McInnes (Karingal), Dylan Hand (retired), Glenn Michie (retired), Steven Roberts (retired), Marcus Roberts (retired). The big story of the pre-season has been the clearances requested from Devon Meadows. The last time we saw something like this in the MPNFL was at Karingal. Despite the exits from the club, Devon will now have the task of rebuilding and replenishing their list, and they start that with bringing former Port Adelaide and St Kilda player Allan Murray, and Matthew Italiano from EDFL Divison 1 club Hillside. A process that will take some time but that is part and parcel of the rollercoaster that football produces that all clubs go through at some point. Unfortunately for the Panthers, the season is going to be a lean one. Dromana Ins: Jacob Barker (Southern FL), Kyle Busuttil-Inglis, Ryan Smyth (Langwarrin), Cameron Carmody (Yarra Ranges), Jeremy Daniel (Tyabb), Zac Muscialli (Edi-Asp), Outs: Rohan Bleeker (Elinbank), Christian Ongarello (YCW). One should not underestimate the significant loss of multiple Team of the Year player Christian Ongarello. ‘Onga’ provides enormous leadership and allowed the coach Rikki Johnston to swing. They needed some support for Beau Cosson and got it in the form of Cameron Carmody. They also needed some grunt around the footy – enter Zac Muscialli from Edithvale. The Tigers will be knocking on the door again but not loud enough to break-in. Frankston Ins: Mitch Bosward (Central Murray), Corey Buchan (Dolphins), Alex Harnett (Pearcedale), Jay Reynolds (Central Murray). Outs: Nil Many believe that Frankston Bombers is the flag favourite going into the 2017 season. It has recruited extremely well and the pre-season form has been faultless. Without question, on paper, the Bombers are the best side in it. There is only one way up for the Bombers and that is to go one step better. There’s no question they will have learned a lot from last season and will be better prepared. Hastings Ins: Ricky Ferraro (Central Highlands), James Marasco (Yarra Ranges), Kain Stratton (Crib Point), Outs: Damien Stone (Southern FL), Ben & Aaron King (Crib Point). The Blues have added some real talent to a list that was the best side in the finals series in 2016 and ultimately won the premiership. Things clicked for the Blues in the final six weeks of the season and many say they started playing the ‘Brendan Dunne way’. 2017 is about hunger. If the hunger is still as strong to go back-to-back, they have to be the team to beat.
www.nepeanfnl.com.au
Bendigo Community Bank Pearcedale Ins: Billy Bryant (Colac), Caleb Cox, Harrison Thompson, Dylan Ryan, Jake Ryan (Somerville), Basil Sibasado (West Gippsland). Outs: Alex Harnett (Bombers), Chris Irving (Red Hill), Dean Janssen (Eastern FL), Lachy Marshall (Pines). A new coach in the experienced Leigh Stewart will bring some renewed enthusiasm. ‘Stewy’ is an experienced, tactical campaigner, however, he is also old-fashioned and a traditionalist. ‘Stewy’ won’t try and over complicate the game style and will play to his team’s strengths. Expect a more consistent Dales that will trouble some sides, however, they won’t push for a place in the top five. Red Hill Ins: Ben Hughes (Gippsland FL), Chris Irving (Pearcedale) Outs: Harry Larwill (VAFA), Two big ‘ins’ in Ben Hughes and Chris Irving are going to make the Hillmen a much better side. The enigmatic Harry Larwill leaves, which will rob coach Tony Blackford of a player who can play both ends. The Hillmen led the eventual 2016 premier midway through an elimination final. They should be there again, however, they will need some luck along the way. Rosebud Ins: Felix Dunn, Oliver Dunn (Ellinbank), Keiran Eddington (VAFA), Brayden Glaum (VAFA), Hamish Martin (AFL North Coast), Jake McBean (AFL Barwon), Rhys McLennan (Bendigo FL), Seth O’Reily (Central Gippsland), Ed Schellander (Essendon FL), Bart Wallace (Yarra Ranges), Tyler Sinclair (Heathcote)
Nepean Preview Outs: Lachy Armstrong (Golden Rivers), Glen Boyington (Maryborough), Cody Mulcair (Maryborough), Nick Boswell (Pines). The Buds have recruited quite well and will no doubt benefit from having a new coach in the very experienced Adrian McBean. The Buds have a wealth of talent and given the right direction, will have sustained success for years. Their best is potent and even under trying circumstances last season, still finished top three. The Buds are definitely part of premiership discussions. Rye Ins: Rhys Burns (Sorrento), Tim Churchin (AFL Cairns), Harley Cole (Sunraysia), Zac Little (Eastern FL), Jari McDonald (North Gippsland), Gabrielle Nicolla (Red Hill), Renton Sanderson (Sorrento), Dekodda Thomson-Irvin (Sorrento), Ben Trivett (VAFA), Jamie Turner (Alberton), Oscar Whitty (Mt Eliza) Outs: Nathan Henley, Ryan Mullett, Dean Millhouse, Simon Taylor, (Southern FL), Harry Crowe (VAFA), Brady Egan (North East FL). It’s going to be a very, very tough year for Rye. The Demons have lost the big connection in Henley, Mullet, Millhouse and Bardon and have not replaced them. Its best young talent in Brady Egan has also gone. There’s a concentration on youth at the club, which is great for the future, however, it will take time to deliver any results. There’s no way the Demons will win more than they lose.

Bendigo Community Bank Somerville Ins: Andres Everitt (Carlton), Lee Koerner (Crib Point) Outs: Luke Collie (Mid-Gippsland), Calex Cox (Pearecdale), Ben Crowe (VAFA), Tom Shaw (Seaford), Adam Rose (VAFA), Dylan & Jake Ryan (Pearcedale), Caleb Cox (Pearcedale), Scott Simpson (WAFL), Michael Towan (VAFA), Todd Farrelly (retired), Luke Rowe (Overseas). The nest is where the real interest lies. David Hirst steps aside as coach and the experienced and highlydecorated Bevan Malloy comes in, despite not coaching for a handful of years. They lose forwards Luke Rowe, Ben Crowe and Tom Shaw, as well as key defenders Todd Farrelly, Luke Collie and Scott Simpson. The Ryan’s also head to Pearcedale. Andres Everitt will be a great recruit but he can’t be everywhere. The Eagles will be the side that drops out for the expense of Sorrento. Sorrento Ins: Chris Dawes (Melbourne), Troy Schwarze (Kyabram), Daniel Grant (AFL QLD), Andrew Lovett (Sunraysia), Justin McCleary (Ellinbank), Aaron Paxton (Karingal), Leigh Poholke (Karingal), Outs: Rob Forrest (Avon FL), Brodie Webb (Mid Gippsland), There has been no bigger talk in the pre-season than Sorrento. Whilst the Sharks have done their very best to keep things low key, it’s hard to do so when you recruit an AFL premiership player in Chris Dawes. Poholke returns to get the third or fourth best defender, while Paxton and McLeary are recruited to strengthen the defence. Then two of the best running defenders the game has seen at local level in Daniel Grant and Troy Schwarze decide to return – and did we mention Andrew Lovett! The Sharks will be the bolter. Tyabb Ins: Jordan Alves (YCW), Michael Altenkirch (Mornington), Luke Bakker (South East FL), Jed Benham (South East FL), Nick Cox (Peninsula), Jesse Day (South East FL), Matt Grazules (South East FL), Matt Harvey-Sich (South East FL), Jarryd Hendrikx (West Gippsland), Ben Little (South East FL), Jordan Pollard (VAFA), Matt Shaw (South East FL), James Tomlinson (South East FL), Tyson Wilson (VAFA). Outs: Adrian Clay (Maryborough), Jeremy Daniel (Dromana), Corey Buchan (Bombers). The Yabbies have continued their successful recruiting drive in the off-season, adding young talent to ensure long-term sustainability. Coach Mark Paganoni and his support team should be commended. They have thought outside the square (Daniel Kerr against Hastings) and looked at ways to bring the right attention to the club. The Yabbies were very competitive for the most part last season and they’ll be looking to improve on that for the full season. The Yabbies will win a few games.

It was great to be back at Tyabb for our first home game of the year & special event to recognise the heritage of our great club. These celebrations take a huge amount of work but thanks to all of the club’s volunteers the day was a success on & off the field. We debuted 3 new seniors in Liam Rogan, Daniel Culnane & Chanel Lalota. It was a tough first game against the reining premiers, Hastings, however plenty of positives came out of the game with everyone contributing. A great first quarter of competitive footy saw the Yabbies leading at qtr time. Unfortunately a few injuries restricted our rotations & allowed Hastings’ fitness to take control for the rest of the game. With great expectation our development side went into the game confident that the season ahead was going to be successful. However a nervous and slow start saw them 5 goals down at quarter time against Hastings who hit the ground running & a more polished unit. For the remainder of the game we had to play catch up & although the tackling and smothering was first class we just couldn’t bridge the gap that the slow start caused, eventually going down by just over 3 goals. Bring the attitude and the pressure of the final three quarters this week & we should see a different result. Today we take on Crib Point. All players will be looking to put their preseason work into action out on the field. Thank you to sponsors of the week - VW and Timac AGRO. NIP! NIP!

Welcome everyone to Hastings first home game of the season where we will be taking on the Rye FNC. Today we the members supporters, players and coaches get to see the unfurling of the 2016 Premiership Flag, that was won by our senior team in what was the culmination of a good season, but a magnificent finals series where our players played 4 great games of football to claim the ultimate prize. Its been 21 long years since the last Flag unfurling ,lets hope we don’t have to wait another 21 years. Last week we travelled up to Tyabb which saw our 3 mens teams have good wins, and our ladies side lose the practice match, it was a good hit out for the girls with plenty of improvement to come. Congratulations to Josh Mulheron who played his 150th senior game for Hastings last week, and also to Kane Stratton who played his 50th senior match. Just a remindrer about the John Coleman coterie group, it is a great way to support the club and great value, you get 12 months Hastings Club membership, which includes free entry to home games$90 value, 3 guest passes to bring friends to the football $270 value, half time refreshments, exclusive news letter from the senior coach, all for @$280 so contact the club on 59791740 for details. I don’t think we can ask for a better way to start season 2017, with a game against last year’s premiers. In what will be a massive challenge for our young list, and we welcome it with open arms. A new year and what a pre-season it has been. We have been waiting a few years for this group of youngsters to make their way to the senior club and the enthusiasm and buzz around the town has been sensational. Anyone who has watched ABC Kids knows that there is a buzz buzz buzz in the meadows, there is a buzz buzz buzz in the trees. So today we have a buzz buzz buzz in the air and we will be looking to take the buzz buzz buzz straight out of the 5 acre flower farmers as Daniel Kerr and the Chicken Train ‘Toot Toot’ front up with the Tractors. Three things that are certain today; Bristle has $500 in his pocket to investigate Youngy, the Meadows VP Kingy will be coming over to steal ideas and Pete Blundy will be waiting for a cup that won’t be presented to him. Today we welcome back some old favs. One in particular Urbs. We also welcome back another crowd favourite our former League BFF winner Stewie. He brings Toughness and Confidence to the Pearcedale team. The little man refuses to accept defeat. So today seek out a committee member to join a coterie group or sponsor the Footy Club, Mark Browne or Karen Halket will help you out. Come inside today. Memberships are available and our latest apparel. Player sponsorship packages are available for all PFNC teams including our new women’s footy team. Go girls! Come to the rooms tonight for the Sportsman Night with Ricky Nixon and Daniel Kerr. Tickets are still available. Good Friday come down to Pearcedale and check out Barry Hall. Tickets available for the prematch function at $120 for three courses and drinks. See Mandy Steadman today. Book a table of 10 for $1000. An event not to be missed! GO DALES! The Warneet Fisherman

Once again another big year of local footy is upon us, and we start the season as per usual playing for the Larnach Cup against our old rivals Pearcedale. At the time of writing this, the weather is forecast to be sensational - perfect for a few cold ones and to get reacquainted with your DMFNC stubby holder and fellow panther supporters. Round 1 promises to be super exciting today as we get to see some of our new recruits don the Red, White and Black. Big welcome to anyone new to the club this year, we look forward to having your friends and family down to the clubrooms and games as often as possible. We also get a few blokes back from injury who missed most of last year and will be welcome additions back into the fold. We’ve always enjoyed coming down to Pearcedale and today is no different as we get a chance to put the pre-season noise behind us. Also - looking ahead to next week, we hope to have a massive day for the blockbuster Easter Saturday match at home against Hastings. It’s been a long pre-season so make sure you get down next week and enjoy your long weekend with a bit of local footy. We will have announcements on Major Functions & Raffles coming up soon so keep your eyes peeled, but in the meantime enjoy your day today and we will see you next week back at Glover Reserve! Go Meadows!

After a really strong pre-season, the addition of a few new recruits and the return of some local talent, there is a real sense of excitement and energy around the club and we all can’t wait to get the 2017 season officially underway. The boys have been working incredibly hard on the track over the summer, they all look to be gelling well as a team and we have high hopes for what this season will bring. Our first hit out of the year came a few weeks ago when we headed “overseas” to Queenscliff and took out the “Battle of the Rip”. The next practice match was against Ringwood and the boys put in another really pleasing performance, with all three teams winning well. All of our recruits performed well during both practice matches, but it is our young guns that are creating some real excitement around the club with some really pleasing performances by those youngsters in both practice matches. It’s a great sign for the club to have such a strong pool of young talent and it looks like there’s going to be some really tough selection decisions as we move through the season which is a very nice problem to have. This week the real fun begins as we take on Rosebud away in what is set to be a cracking season opener. We’ve had many a great battle against these boys in years gone by and, with all three Rosebud teams playing finals last year, we’re not expecting anything different this weekend! Look forward to seeing you there. Go Sharks!

Welcome to Season 2017! Finally after long hot summer and the boys training since mid November we get down to business and play some good old football. This season we have a new coach in Bevan Malloy who has been a great acquistion to the club. Bevan has been fantastic with the younger boys within the playing group. We also welcome back to the club one of our juniors, Andrejs Everitt. The recently AFL listed player has also been a great influence on the playing group. To complete our coaching staff Paul “Noodles” Norton returns as our 2s coach and Will Casey takes over the reins of the U19s. Numbers have been good at training over the summer, with both seniors and U19s training together most of the time. We have had a couple of decent practice matches at home. The club is looking forward to an exciting 2017 season on and off field. There is plenty going on off the field, with change rooms being updated and new umpires rooms. We have new goal squares and the playing surface has improved with all the work the grounds committee have done. Andy Palmer is back for his 4th year in charge of the nest! Today we come against Red Hill at the ‘nest’. Already this shapes as an important round of footy at it is always great to get the season of to a winning start. Lets hope the boys are up for the challenge! Don’t forget Corporate Box is available for hire this season, please see Andy Palmer about all the details. Elwin snr

Well, here we are. Season 2017! Last year saw all 3 grades make the Finals with the U/19’s and Reserves securing Grand Final spots. It certainly wasn’t the Grand Final results we were after; but after a number of “Cage” initiations, we look to be more determined than ever to hit the ground running and go one better. With plenty of new blood coming through the 19’s and a number of last year 19’s making the successful step into senior football, Papa, Connor and The Perm have their sides locked, loaded and ready to rock and roll. For those of you who left the club in 2016, we wish you well (but we’re gonna need some help eating all these bananas) – for those of you who have gone on brighter and whiter start of season adventures, we can’t wait to have you back - and for those that have joined us in 2017, we officially welcome you to the RHFNC family and look forward to working with you on and off the field in the coming years/decades. Good luck today and welcome to Season 2017! Save these dates: EASTER SUNDAY FOOTBALL – Next Sunday 16th April, Red Hill v Crib Point – Family Day @ Red Hill Recreation Reserve. Welcome everyone back to Bomberland for season 2017, a year to correct unfinished business! Our footy department has put together a superb preseason program with great recruiting, giving our players a great fitness base and good practice match form. New Bombers to watch include key position forward/defender Cory Buchan from Dolphins & midfield jet Alex Hartnett who joins us from Pearcedale and Richmonds VFL side. It is also welcome back to Mitch Bosward and Jay Reynolds after their Murray River tree change & Matt Harris from overseas. Great to see Travis Reints looking after the Reserves and Zach Horsley is coaching a great group of Under 19’s. Change surrounds us with the rooms finished and looking awesome, the terracing will be welcome as the wet of winter sets in and a luncheon today will celebrate the opening. Our netball family is growing with the Bombshells adding a fourth team and we wish the girls all the best for their season. Tomorrow @ 2.00pm sees our women’s football team tackle Tyabb in a practice match and so please come down to support the newest Bomber footy team. Coach Brett White & Captain Sarah Josephine will appreciate the support of the Bomber family, the bbq will be sizzling and the bar open. It will be a little strange today not to have the Pres in the house today as his away expanding his cultural boundaries. Good luck to Fults running the show in Batty’s absence. Go well to all Bombers today and for season 2017.

Here we go again The preseason has been long and hot. Old and new faces have been seen running, running, running in preparation for the upcoming season. Although not all our umpires have been seen running, some of us have been sighted practicing straddling those pesky goal lines in the hope we will be in the correct position to make the close call. The opening week of the season is on the horizon and the pain of the preseason and practice matches will be over. Then it all feels like yesterday. And then the first ball is bounced. Even though we had a few games played on April 1, the season starts with a vengeance this weekend, so good luck all and let this be your best year yet.

Netball Preview
Bendigo Community Bank Nepean Netball Preview – Round 1 2017 Crib Point v Tyabb The Grand Final re-match for round one, could you ask for anything else. Crib Point are now the hunted after taking the 2016 title, and everyone including the Yabbies will be out take down the Magpies from their perch. With one game already under the belt for the Yabbies they might be in prime position to get the early scalp, but if last year is anything to go by this will be a close game with nothing but a few point in it. Crib Point as reining premiers will just get the chocolates. Hastings v Rye Fantastic to see Hastings get an A-Grade side on the court after a year’s absence. The new blues outfit may take some time to gel, but they do take on a Rye side that after many years up top are looking to rebuild. Both side will no doubt debut some fantastic young netballers and we look forward to the match ahead. Rye for the win. Pearcedale v Devon Meadows The local derby, and this should be a cracking game! Nothing better than playing the local rival to start the season. Devon Meadows will be looking to go that one step further in 2017, and there will certainly be some improvement from Pearcedale. On last year’s form the Red, White & Black Panthers will get the job done today.
Rosebud v Sorrento In 2016, the Buds were most certainly one of the most improved sides. Sorrento have certainly made headway with the return of an A-Grade in 2016 so 2017 should only see more improvement from the young Sharks. Rosebud will be slightly ahead of Sorrento and will most like take home the win. Somerville v Red Hill The Eagles certainly got close to the big song and dance, will be looking to take that one step further in 2017. Red Hill only missed out on finals last year by percentage, which would leave a sour taste in anyone’s mouth, so look out for a no mercy Red Hill side in 2017. Somerville at home is always tough and they get the tip this week. Frankston v Dromana Is this the year the Bombshells are set to explode and blow away the competition (how many puns can we get in here!) They would sure like to think so, but they have a tough opposition in Dromana, who in 2016 were only a game and percentage away from making finals. The Tigers will be hoping to build upon the form they show last year, and will be the tip for this game.

Our A Grade team has had a great preseason with a combination of both old and new faces and we would like to officially welcome our new playing coach Nicole Hadgkiss (goaler) and new players Nicole Chianta (defender) and Tamara Tomamichel (mid-courter). This year we will also be welcoming girls from Under 17’s and other grades to build our A-Grade stocks for years to come. Training has been a great combination of skills, fitness and teamwork and we look forward to a great season in 2017. The start of the season has come around really quickly for our B & C Grade teams and both sides are really keen to kick it off with a great first round! Our preseason has been steady involving lots of fitness and game time. Our B grade side has had quite a shuffle around since last year, taking players from each of our last years sides to make a dynamic new one and there are new faces in our C Grade team also. We are hopeful that both teams can really play well together and have a great and competitive 2017 season. It will be an exciting year ahead for the Under 17s heading into the season. With previous players moving up and fresh young ones moving in their place we’re excited to see them grow and develop as the season progresses. The girls have all worked hard over the preseason and are starting to come together as a team. The Sorrento grand final rematch I’m sure will be interesting, however the girls will head into it positively and will give it all they’ve got! Go girls! Go Buds!
Oh it’s good to be back! Netball how we missed you! From the exhausted red faced girls perspiring over a preseason that was hotter than the bottom of my laptop, to the frostbitten fingers we look forward to getting in the upcoming months… we are brimming with excitement for season 2017. Not only do we welcome Bryce Rowley, Em Williams, Grace Von Dort, and Sez O’Brien our irrationally dedicated team of coaches poised to transform our off court skills into on court brilliance. But we also see some fresh new faces and some slightly less fresh, (but still awesome!) returning faces to Bombshell land strengthening our squad. With the league introducing a delightful D grade Bombshells now have 4 teams chocked filled with incredible recruits. Our praccy matches taught us several things; 1. Sunscreen gets in your eyes when you sweat and despite reapplying A-line tan lines still appear post game. 2. Hot courts and gripping shoes mean we already mourn our lost toenails. And 3. This is going to be an incredible season full of bomber banter, bruising encounters and hopefully the opportunity to make our coaches to say “Good On Youuu!” Getting this party started is Frankston v Dromana (Baxter Park) starting at 10.00am all times AEST. Go Bomber!
Somerville Eagles Welcome to the 2017 season! Down at the Nest we are very excited to begin the 2017 season as we not only welcome back our 3 teams but we are also pumped to welcome onboard a D side! We are also pleased to introduce our coaches for the season: A grade - Kristy Marshall B grade - Danni Planner C grade - Maria Neophytou D grade - Chelsey Burkitt and Briony Kelly We are very lucky to have a coaching team that brings great experience and skill and we can’t wait to see what they have in store for us. This season we also welcome lots of new players, who have fit in so well at the Nest, there is already a great feel around the club! Today we face Red Hill in round 1, we are expecting 4 tough games but are excited to show how hard we have been working. Hopefully our preseason translates into 4 wins to begin 2017! GO EAGLES!

Welcome to all our new and returning players and their families. We are all looking forward to a great season ahead. The girls have worked hard over the preseason and are excited to meet the challenges that lay ahead. We have many new and talented faces at Rye this season and are looking forward to seeing them take the next step in their netball careers. We are really excited to have club stalwart Amy Jobling as coach of both our A and B grade sides. Jodie Stephens and Jenny Walker have taken on the role of joint C grade coaches and young guns Sienna Wills and Olivia Stephens will be coaching our young D ‘development ‘ grade team. What and exciting year ahead as we continue to coach, develop and mentor all the girls in our club. Go Dees

Hastings Blues
A tough start to the season against a very strong Tyabb, in wet and slippery conditions, thankfully the sun finally came out for our B grade match. All new players settled into their teams and players returning from 2016 continued their development. It was great for us all to finally get on the court after a very long off season. All grades competed strongly and were fantastic representatives of our club. Looking forward to hosting our first home this week against Rye.
Well how quickly 2017 has come around and it is great to see so many players around. We are lucky enough to be able to field a D Grade side aswell this year. Which just goes to show the strenght of our junior club. It is so exciting to see all the talent coming through. It’s been crazy busy around the club with all the new babies and weddings, congratulations to all. Today we are at Frankston U17’s already getting there first break for the season as we see the newly formed D Grade take the court. Looking forward to a great season. Go Tigers As the first round approaches all our panther girls are ready for a tough season ahead. We have all been training for many weeks now and are looking forward to our first game for the season. With the addition of d grade this year we hope to follow last seasons streak and not only get all senior teams to finals but the 17s as well! We are coming up against pearcedale, a club who will give us a run for our money! We are looking forward to an enjoyable and hopefully successful year! We wish the best of luck to all teams and can’t wait to get out on the court and show them what we’ve got!!

2016 A GRADE PREMIERS! And we are so proud of it, too many people to thank in this forum...years and years of hard work and dedication, but we finally achieved the goal. We are again striving for ultimate success in 2017. Preseason has been well underway for months. A huge thank you to Adrienne Harris who put so much time and effort into ensuring our girls are ready for round 1. We certainly disliked you at the time, but we are thankful for getting us to the fitness level we need to be at to start the year! Today is likely to be one of our toughest matches of the year as we face our old foes, Tyabb. The A Grade match is the 2016 Grand Final replay and we expect them to come out firing in all grades. Our coaches this year: Head Coach - Laura Herrington; A Grade - Belinda Nerantzoulis; B Grade - Adrienne Harris; C Grade - Leah Moncrieff & Tessa Moncrieff; and D Grade - Ange Barclay (Assistant - Kylie Crow). Unfortunately due to lack of numbers we are unable to field an U17, however are excited to be welcoming some new faces and some previously ‘retired’ players back to the club to play in the newly established D Grade competition. Good luck to all teams this year! #flapflapswoopswoop
Sorrento Sharks Thank you to our First Round Sponsor for your continuing support ANTHONY RING EXCAVATIONS A big thank you to all our 2107 sponsors we look forward to seeing you at matches. ROUND 1 2017 and its back to the business of netball. The girls started with a great pre-season training camp with the footy boys at Phillip Island. A chance for the all to get to know each other and improve their fitness. Sue Roper our fitness trainer has been working the girls hard in the preseason. It has been great weather to be training. What a way to start the season with an opening match against Rosebud - the weather is looking great and the competition is always fierce. We are still looking at combinations and team selection so it will be great to run thing out this week. Once again it is a year of building our Netball Club. Many of our players have headed off to university and studies and we wish them well. We have recruited from our juniors and look forward building with them over the season. We have two new coach in our club Kathleen and past player Georgia. We wish them all the best for the season in their new role.Thank you to our returning coaches, it is such an enormous commitment of time and energy and we truely appreciate your efforts. Also a big thank you and acknowledgement of all the volunteer committee who have once again signed on to season 2017. GO SORRAS - ENJOY SEASON 2017

Red Hill Hills The Red Hill girls are looking forward to season 2017. With preseason training well received, we are ready for some strong & exciting netball when we head to Somerville this weekend for what is always a big challenge. I’d like to welcome our new players & wish them best of luck for the season. With the new D grade competition, we can see our club growing & developing. We have 2 new coaches in Georgia & Kirsten this year , so good luck to you both. Go Red Hill
Tyabb Yabbies
Last week we celebrated 40 years of Tyabb FNC by uniting all aspects of our club, including juniors and our inaugural women’s footy team, at Bunguyan Reserve. There was a wonderful vibrancy around the ground which has set the tone for the rest of our season. Thank you to everyone who came down and well done to our club leaders for their organisational efforts. D Grade kicked things off with a win over Hastings which was the trend for the day. The girls worked hard all game and their intensity allowed them to increase their lead each quarter. Kels worked really well with Chloe in the ring and was best on. Hannah linked up well with her teammates in C grade and was able to convert with high goaling accuracy. The rest of the squad gave her plenty of opportunities with their bombarding defensive pressure all the way down the court. B Grade came up against a much taller and physically strong opposition. Laura took the court for the first time for the Yabbies and dominated in goals with her calm and precise manner. The rest of the squad adjusted well to the various combinations and have identified some important goals to work on before taking on Crib Point this week. An exciting day at Crib Point with their flag unfurling and opening of their new courts. We’re sure their tails will be up but are hoping to pull them down off their perch. Good luck to all players in court. NIP! NIP!
Pearcedale Panthers
The dresses are sewn, players have been briefed, practise matches played and whether for win or for loss there’s one thing we can agree upon at the Pink Panther penthouse- we are set for a ripper season! With one of our best pre season preparations under the belt, the girls, coaches, committee and loyal supporters are just itching to game day and show the opposition what they’re made of. With some exciting new players across all grades and the addition of 2 new teams to the club this year, we feel we are heading the right direction- up! We start the season this week against our panther rivals at Devon Meadows who are always tough opponents all round. Watch this space for game results, insights and rising stars. GO DALES!
