Office Talk MPNFL Update Round 1 2017 Welcome to the 2017 Season for both Peninsula FNL & Nepean FNL This year the MPNFL celebrates its 30th year of existence, after the amalgamation of the Nepean Football League and Mornington Peninsula Football League, in 1987. 2017 brings a year of new hope for every football and netball team, so will this be the year that another team beat Frankston YCW in the Grand Final, will EdithvaleAspendale continue a stranglehold on the Peninsula netball competition, who is going to be the flag favourite in the Nepean football and will anyone come close to Crib Point or Tyabb in Nepean netball? We are very excited here in the office for the upcoming season. Also in the first few rounds there are some themed and feature rounds; 8th April 2017 – Opening Round 14th- 16th April 2017 – Round 2: Easter Weekend 22nd April 2017 – Round 3: ANZAC Round 6th May 2017 – Round 5: Community Umpiring Round 13th May 2017 – AFL Victoria Community Championships: Geelong v MPNFL @ MCG So get ready for a bumper season, and best of luck to all teams this round!

Welcome to the 2017 Season For 20 Clubs in the Mornington Peninsula Leagues, Saturday marks the start of a new season. On behalf of the AFL South East Commission I wish those 20 Clubs good luck for the season ahead. Fine conditions greeted those Clubs who started last week, when I was fortunate enough to see the facilities at Holm Park Beaconsfield, as well as witness very competitive netball and football fixtures between Beacy and Berwick. This week I am looking forward to see the opening of new facilities for the Frankston Bombers at Greg Beck Oval where they take on Dromana. Allowable Player Payments While the Player Points System has been around for some time, this season for the first time we have an Allowable Player Payments System as well, commonly referred to as a Salary Cap. The general philosophy around the Cap is to assist in the equalisation of competitions and to stop the inflationary nature of player payments. Combined with the Player Points System the Cap is also designed to promote club loyalty and junior development. Clubs have been encouraged to set a budget for player payments prior to the season to ensure they are compliant by seasons end. Breaches of the cap will attract heavy penalties. While the administration of the Cap does present some logistical complexities, I commend all clubs for the way they have supported the initiative and strategy behind the introduction of the Cap. Inter League Fixtures Saturday May 13 has now officially been announced by the AFL as the date for the Worksafe Community Championship matches. As such our leagues are very fortunate to be participating in important inter league fixtures on that day. The MPNFL will be playing Geelong on the MCG prior to the AFL blockbuster between the Bombers and the Cats. What a great opportunity for coach John Hynes and his team to perform against the number 1 ranked league on the biggest stage. On the same day SEFNL, coached by Jock Holland, takes on the Hampden League, coached by Jonathan Brown, at the Holden Centre. I wish both coaches and their squads the best of luck in the lead up to the big day.
AFL South East
Women’s Football I am delighted to see the growth in women’s football in the South East Region. AFL South East will be administering Divisions 1 & 2 of the women’s competition (16 teams) as well as the South East Development League which will have 15 new teams in 2017. The Women’s Competitions commence in early May. Participation The AFL South East Commission is in the fortunate position of overseeing one of the biggest participation regions in the country. At an AFL briefing I attended recently I was alerted to encouraging data. In the Local Government areas around the nation, the City of Casey has the 2nd highest number of registered footballers, while the Mornington Shire has the 4th highest nationally. As a region we are the number 1 ranked for participation.
On Line Footy Records Last week the on line record for SEFNL was launched. We were delighted to receive the analysis showing there were over 5,000 views of the excellent publicationthrough the website and social media channels. Many people not attending games can see what is happening around the Clubs and it is also a great benefit to Club sponsors to be advertising to many more people Since I commenced I have attended several meetings involving Club Presidents. I have to say we are fortunate to have such a committed group of volunteers and have enjoyed meeting you all. Whatever your measurement of success is in 2017 I wish you all well in achieving those goals.
Good Luck John Anderson RGM AFL South East

AFL Vic Country WorkSafe AFL Victoria Country 2017 Season Welcome Excitement is brewing across Victoria for the return of community football. Whether you are playing, coaching, umpiring, volunteering or cheering on your team from the sidelines, the month of April brings with it a feeling of optimism and anticipation for what lies ahead for season 2017. Following the successful implementation of the Player Points System last season, football competitions across the State have been busily preparing for the introduction of the Allowable Player Payment Framework in 2017. Part of AFL Victoria’s Community Club Sustainability Program, the Allowable Player Payment Framework aims to support and grow Australian Football at a community level by supporting volunteers and ensuring club sustainability. The work carried out by Region Commissions, in conjunction with leagues and clubs, has been a terrific endorsement of the policy which will address escalating player payments in community football.
Following the inaugural WorkSafe AFL Victoria Community Championships last year, representative players in the number-one-ranked Geelong Football Netball League will face second-placed Mornington Peninsula Nepean Football League on Saturday May 13. The match will be played as a curtain-raiser to the Round 8 dedicated AFL Country Game between Essendon and Geelong. In addition, the 11 v 12 match between Hampden Football Netball League and South East Football Netball League will be also be played in Melbourne’s sporting precinct at the Holden Centre. This is a fantastic occasion for some of community football’s best senior players to run out and showcase their skills on the game’s biggest stage and provide the opportunity for city and country football fans to come together and celebrate all that is good in country football. Last but not least I would like to wish all players, coaches, umpires, volunteers and administrators the best of luck for the season ahead- I hope it is a successful one for all involved.
In other football news, female football is alive and well in country Victoria with the introduction of new women’s leagues being established across the state. Following the success of the inaugural AFL Women’s League, community football in Victoria is seeing more females lacing up the boots in season 2017 than ever before. The work conducted by our regions with regard to the development of female football programs, participation, and competition management sets country football in good stead for continued growth of women’s football in the future.
WorkSafe AFL Victoria Country Football Manager Jim Cail
Finally, AFL Victoria is delighted to announce the topranked WorkSafe AFL Victoria Community Championships match will be played at the MCG.

Football Preview THE JOURNEY BEGINS
THE summer slog is complete. Players are fit, coaches full of hope. Footy fans are hungry for action, so...Let the 2017 season begin! Frankston YCW, winners of the past three premierships, starts the season as the team to beat. But Mt Eliza, still stinging from last season’s grand final loss, will contend strongly, especially after adding exRichmond player Brett O’Hanlon and Karingal ruckman Grant Goodall. All teams start level today. Over the next five months, some will soar, others will struggle. It promises to be an interesting and exciting journey. A winning start is important when Round 1 explodes to life today. BONBEACH and PINES - combatants in last season’s first semi-final - reacquaint in the season-opener. There was plenty of feeling in that final last season when Pines drilled seven goals to zip in the second quarter to set up a 33-point win and end Bonny’s season. It’s worth noting that Pines had the wood on Bonbeach last season, winning all three meetings between the two. The Sharks have recruited well, adding former Sydney and St Kilda forward Trent Dennis-Lane as well as
experienced players Gav Vassallo and Jase Ferraro. They’ll complement proven stars Shane McDonald and Gary Carpenter. Pines’ big three - Aaron Edwards, Guy Hendry and Tim Bongetti - kicked 153 goals between them last season and will again carry the Pythons’ hopes. Pines coach Paddy Swayn says his side’s game style will take on a new, pacy look this season. Traditional rivals CHELSEA and EDI-ASP start the season with a local derby. The Seagulls’ list has undergone sweeping changes, with a raft of recruits coming in. The addition of exciting young NT Thunder midfielder Daly Shannon adds interest, while best and fairest winner Grant Trew and captain Todd Gardiner will again show the way for the Gulls. The Seagulls only won two games last year but they did push Edi-Asp in two highly-competitive clashes. Edi-Asp, under master coach Graeme Yeats, looks to have assembled a strong side. Quality players Matt Clark, Brad Tag and Brent Bowden are back from Foster and former Dandy Stingrays captain Liam McKay is a terrific addition. The Eagles will rely on gun forward Mick Meehan (55 goals last season), Tim Mannix, skipper Steve Mannix, Angus Macquire and Brendan Neville, all of whom enjoyed excellent 2016 seasons.

Football Preview LANGWARRIN and KARINGAL finished in the lower rungs of the ladder last season but both have the talent to push for finals. Langy, under second-year coach Brad Dredge, will again rely on youth and home grown talent. Former Sandown ruckman Owen Uaongo has joined the Kangaroos to give inspirational skipper Matt Naughton a helping hand. Look for good things from Joel Bateman, Josh Biggs, Blake Peach and Nick Tuddenham – all good contributors last year. Langwarrin, though, needs to boost its forward stocks after Kieran Albanese (37 goals in 14 games) was the only Kangaroos player to kick more than 9 goals for the season last year. New Karingal coach Andrew Sharp is excited about his side’s prospects, saying he’s not setting “a ceiling on where we could go’’. Former Carlton player Andrew McInness is a key inclusion for the Bulls, along with ex-Dolphins Aisea Valetini and Damien Ashcroft. Champion Michael Burke, Luke Van Raay and Chris Hay will again be relied on by the red and white. MORNINGTON has strengthened its list but faces a tough first-up test against the champs FRANKSTON YCW. Jackson Calder and Chris Baker will lead a well-balanced Bulldogs team, determined to return to finals action after slipping to seventh spot last year. Warwick Miller, last season’s Mornington best and fairest winner, is set for another big season as is Josh Halsall, Will Goosey, Joel Miller and ruck star Mick Gay. A bunch of good recruits, including former Melbourne-listed Rhys Healey, will boost the Doggies. Frankston YCW begins a new era, with a new coach and changes to its side. Wayne Capp has taken the coaching reins and he’s keen to give opportunities to the Stonecats young talent. YC have had some big “outs’’, most notably Brenton Credlin and Anthony Bruhn – both to the VFL – but the addition of Dromana defender Christian Ongarello and hulking Gippsland ruckman Macklin Raine will benefit the champs. MT ELIZA won 16 games last season – and very nearly won the flag. Today, the Redlegs host a SEAFORD side expected to be a top-five contender. Expect more Redlegs success in ’17, with Troy Shannon’s well-drilled side – driven by “unfinished business’’ - certain to be a leading contender. The addition of Brett O’Hanlon, Shaun Knott, Shane Tennant and Grant Goodall will only make Mt Eliza stronger, with Rohan Heasley, Sam Gill and Justin Van Unen again to be key figures. Seaford coach Ben Murphy guided the Tigers to sixth spot last year and is intent on improvement this year. Key forward Tom Shaw is back at the Tigers, as is Brayden Irving from Frankston. Aaron Walton, Nick Braund and Jackson Mockett kicked 83 goals between last season and will again play key roles.

To all our members, sponsors and supporters welcome to 2017. It’s been a long pre-season and until a game is played we don’t know what is in store, but we approach the year with an enthusiasm that hasn’t been around for some time. Plenty of new players, Lachie Marshall, Damien Lawrence, Nick Boswell, Ben Thomas, to name a few and the return of some faithfuls, Shaun White, Dale Tedge, Daniel Falzon, Brenton Cowell which gives us depth we haven’t enjoyed for many years. This week we are hosted by fellow finalists, Bonbeach, which is a tough assignment first up. Expect it to be a tight game. Good luck to all.

It’s been a long pre season but we are here, round 1, hooray!! Time to dust off the red, white and blue scarfs and support the boys & girls as they come up at home against the perennial yardstick in Frankston YCW. The playing group has been working hard over the break with today being the first opportunity they have to show what all the hard work and dedication was for. The practice games have been full of promise with victories over Hastings, Mitcham and Mordialloc, but we all know that’s like dancing with your sister (it doesn’t count). Today we welcome some new faces to the Kennel, Peter McGettigan, Rhys Healy, Xavier BarryMurphy, Dean Karies, Travis Young. Troy Kirwin and Michael Barnes just to name a few. We hope they enjoy their time at the club and wish them a successful year. The coaching ranks haven’t changed from last year with Chris (Seniors), Jeff (Reserves) & Neil (Under 19’s), but we have added some support for Chris in the seniors with the introduction of 3 new assistant coaches in Barry Besanko, Adam Jackson and Dave Miller. In summary everyone has been working hard on and off the field to make 2017 a terrific one for the Mornington Football Club, so strap yourself in and let the games begin. Woof Woof. Social: We have our Annual Golf Day on Sunday 23rd April at MGC, starts at 7.30am-8.30am - see website for details. Well Spring and Summer are gone, the leaves are dropping off the trees, it must be Autumn and yeah local footy is back on the agenda. The Ones are defending their 2016 title this year under the tutelage of Wayne Capp. Scotty went out on a high and Cappy is as keen as mustard to repeat the dose. Murph and Hutchy return hoping to push a bit further into September action. We have some inevitable changes of playing personnel and all the signs are promising from the practice matches. The lists have been finalised and we are ready to go. Our first challenge is the Doggies at Alexandra Park where we head today - tough contests across all three sides. We will need to hit the ground running as Mornington will be primed and snarling for success. Welcome back to the Netballers (The Stonekittens) who are basking in premiership glory - read their notes. A large welcome to our Sponsors (new and old), Life Members, Supporters (our lifeblood) and the new under 19 players and their parents. It’s now time to renew your subs as players, past players, social members, Collopy Club and supporters. There are several packages see Tanny, Ray M or Reddas for details After (hopefully) some wins today, we’ll have a couple of frothies with the Doggies and then it’s back to the Rooms for our Season Opener. There’ll be music, food, drinks and prizes and general enjoyment. We host the Mounties in Round 2 on Good Friday at Coburn Oval in a Grand Final rematch - twill be a huge day with a big crowd.

As well for the Bearman family for their efforts. Just over 2 weeks away is our Club’s annual golf day. There are still about 6 groups available which should be another great day at our generous sponsors course. Next Sat (rd2) is our first home game of the season on Easter Saturday again. Here we go again The preseason has been long and hot. Old and new faces have been seen running, running, running in preparation for the upcoming season. Although not all our umpires have been seen running, some of us have been sighted practicing straddling those pesky goal lines in the hope we will be in the correct position to make the close call. The opening week of the season is on the horizon and the pain of the preseason and practice matches will be over. Then it all feels like yesterday. And then the first ball is bounced. Even though we had a few games played on April 1, the season starts with a vengeance this weekend, so good luck all and let this be your best year yet.

Netball Preview Karingal V Langwarrin Round 1 2017 is upon us already with all clubs preparing for the 2017 season. A loss in the grand final of 2016 would been a bitter pill for the Bulls to swallow in its second consecutive year so they will come out all guns blazing this week in their match against Langwarrin. The Roos have an ex-Bull in charge this year – Jess Hosking which is bound to lift Langwarrin. Played at Lloyd Park – this game will be one to watch!
Mt Eliza V Seaford Last years finalists – Seaford take on the Redlegs at their home court. Seaford impressed in 2016 while Mt Eliza were inconsistent but did show glimmers of hope. Their final position on the ladder certainly didn’t reflect their talent and ability and they will be hoping to make a good start to 2017 with a win at home.
Bonbeach V Pines Both of these sides are on the up and will be looking to start the 2017 season off with a win. Bonbeach have done some recruiting in the off season and Pines were certainly a force to be reckoned with at the end of 2016. Another game to watch round 1! Chelsea V Edi Asp The reigning premiers can have a rest round one as Chelsea this year are not fielding an A grade side. Mornington V Frankston YCW The Stonekittens have had a productive off season while the Doggies also made the most of their practice matches. This game will be played at Mornington this week in what will be a certain match of finals contenders.

In Memory of Stacee MacInnes Stacee was a vibrant, beautiful young girl who had a wicked sense of humour & a passion for life. Last year we were greatly saddened when Stacee suddenly passed away. We paid our respect to Stacee & the MacInnes family in round one last year & now we will always remember Stace & her smile, every year when we play our first game of the season against Chelsea. Today all players will wear purple ribbons & the best on court in B grade will be awarded the Stacee Medal. This will be presented to the winner by members of the MacInnes family. To Ros, Ross, Caris, Holly, Bec & the MacInnes family, our thoughts are always with you. Thank you to the Chelsea Football Netball Club for your support of Stacee’s round.
YCW netball club finished the 2016 season by bringing home our first piece of silverware with a nail biting win in the B grade Grand Final. While the trophy isn’t lonely, surrounded by the success of the footy team, the girls are determined to defend their title in 2017 and ensure we can have netball represented even more in the club trophy cabinet! The squad is in the best position it has been, with A-grade superstar, Jessica Tobin appointed as Head Coach. Jess has been an apprentice coach working with Jade Heinrich at Peninsula Waves and now Southern Saints. She is supported by one of the most experienced coaching names on the Peninsula, in Jill Hunter. The rest of the coaching team is made of names such as Meagher, Strickland, Janssen (Wade), Drummond (Bibsy), Charles and Bellert – dream team line up. While the squad has had an influx of amazing new and young talent, it has been able to retain some of the more mature players such as Boults, Schneider and Barry girls. The combination of youth and experience is sure to bring much energy and excitement come game day. Once again, thank you to our loyal sponsors for 2017 including Heritage Balnarring, Monjon, Snap Printing, UFirst Real Estate, Deeki and Tyrepower. Good luck to all the teams this season and we look forward to a great season ahead. #keepingupwiththekittens
Karingal Bullettes Welcome to season 2017 Bulls fans! This year we have four new look teams and a new coach Amanda for C & D grade. Ben returns to coach A & B grade and after missing finals in B and a loss in the A grade grand final, he will be looking to redeem what could have been. With some great results at our practices matches, the girls are prepared for this week’s matches at Langwarrin. Last season we played some excellent, competitive games against our neighbours and no doubt this Saturday will be the same. Congratulations to Jade and the team for all their hard work in the off season to get us back on court for season 2017. Go Bulls!

ROUND1 has certainly crept up. After a successful 2016 season with finals representation across both football & netball the scene has been set to build on this success in 2017. In 2017 we welcome back coaches Carly Webster (Head Coach) & Jo Camilleri (D grade) as well as introducing a new coach to the team, David O’Hare (B grade). David comes to the club with a wealth of knowledge including State and VNL experience. We are confident that the 3 coaches will form a fantastic unit to lead all 4 teams to finals this season. The off-season saw some excellent additions to the playing list including star shooters Steph Hille (Peninsula Waves) & Bridget Ryan (YVG Ariels). Verona Kaitani (Peninsula Waves) will add some dynamic moves to our mid court as well as Kierra McKenzie (Peninsula Waves) & Ashlee Porter (Peninsula Waves) as great assets in defence. We also welcome back Premiership player Ellie Russo to the squad. With the addition of some excellent players across the squad including Jamie O’Hare (YVG Ariels) & Julia Kaitani (Peninsula Waves) in our B grade team we have seen the quality & strength of every team increase over the break. Our C/D squad has been working super hard at training also & have shown some very promising signs in our practice matches. Over the break we took on Pearcedale FNC and Frankston Bombers FNC in our practice matches & walked away with some promising wins across the squad - plenty of signs point to a competitive season ahead Go Redlegs!!
CFNC Netball had a setback over the latter part of 2016 losing our A grade side and beloved coach Lisa Donnellan. We remain positive and we’re rebuilding with brand new netball administration for 2017. Our strong recruitment drive has attracted 10 young new players which gives us just enough to field three sides this year. We would like to warmly welcome the following players: Jess Gazzo, Amy Cunliffe, Awatea Bush, Breanna RhysJones, Lexie Close, Kate Simpson, Perri Baldwin, Brittany Reynolds, Kellie McAuliffe, and Katja Jansen. We are grateful to AFLSE for respecting our circumstances and granting CFNC a one-year exemption from A grade as we rebuild. Head Coach Hayley Hatcher will coach our B and C teams, whilst Coach ‘in train’ Mollie Riddle will coach our D grade. We look forward to a team-building function this Friday night in preparation for the first game of the season. We also welcome aboard our loyal sponsor for the past 3 years, Doyles Deck & Bistro, who have signed on to CFNC Netball for another 3 year sponsorship program. Thank you Doyles! We wish all Netball teams the very best for the 2017 season and we aim to provide you with a fair competition. Go Gulls!
Pines Pythonettes Excitement is the feeling down at Pines for the start of 2017. Starting with a successful preseason with a lot of new faces as well as construction beginning for the brand new netball court at Eric Bell Reserve. With construction due to finish within the next 7 weeks, all those down at the Snakepit are extremely excited to have netball and football played in the same place and truly become a football netball club. With an already strong connection between the footballers and netballers it is very exciting to be able to support each other every Saturday with hopefully a very successful season for all. Preseason began in late November with a short break over Christmas. Over the break we lost two A grade players for the following season as they revealed they were expecting new babies! However we were lucky enough to pick up a few new girls aswell as welcome some B graders from season 2016 who worked hard and impressed our new coach Brierley to earn a spot in A grade. All four teams are excited to take the court this Saturday for Round 1 against BonBeach and hopefully kick off season 2017 with four successful wins.

Bonbeach Sharkettes *to be read to the tune of the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air* So this is a story all about how our club got flipped turned upside down. I’d like to take a minute just sit right there, I’ll tell you how we became a team with a competitive flair. On the netball court we were born and raised, learning from coach Louise is how we spend most of our days. Passin’ balls, sprintin’, dodgin’ real quick, and shooting some netballs at the local school. When a couple of teams told us we were no good, started getting spirits down in our neighbourhood. We had some killer practice matches and the competition got scared, We said “we’re moving up the ladder in the peninsula league” Playing and training day after day, got some new tall girls who’ve helped us on our way. Up against pines, now round 1 is here, I put my new Asics on and said “let’s go out and win it” Bonbeach, yeah we’re pretty rad, Celebrating our win with a champagne glass. Is this what the people of Edi-Asp are living like? Hmm, this might be alright! ROUND ONE! This week we welcome the pines to shark park! We’re super excited to step out onto the court after all the hard work we’ve put into our pre season and hopefully start the season with 4 wins! Hope to see all the girls up in the rooms after the games for a drink! Go Sharks - Fins up!!

Netball Notes Mornington Bulldogs We welcome back coaches Michelle and Corinna for 2017 to the MFNC. The club are very lucky to have the experience of these two coaches across our four teams and are excited to watch them develop the young playing group. After a strong pre-season and successful practice matches, the girls are ready to tackle the season with a fit and strong netball squad. We would like to congratulate the following ladies on being chosen in leadership roles for the year: Georgia, Tess H, Eliza, Holly, Amanda, Lara, Steph and Ainslie. These ladies have shown stand out qualities during the pre season and have had strong connections with rest of the squad. Good luck ladies, we look forward to seeing your influence on the court. Go Doggies!!
Langwarrin Kangaroos Langy Roos are very excited for the season ahead! The club is thriving with new members, new officials and new coaching staff to help our Roo girls to be even more competitive than before. We welcome new head coach Sara Drain, who comes to us with a wealth of experience and a great role model for our youngsters moving up into senior netball. Sara is supported by Sarah JohnstonB grade coach and Kristy Ridgeway - C & D grade coach,
who combined share over 150 games experience for our club. New Netball Operations manager, Michael Paez has stepped into to role with a fresh new outlook, proving there’s only good things to come. Very exciting times at Lloyd Park, bring on the season. Go Roos!!
Seaford Tigers Round 1 is on our doorstep with what is promising to be a successful season for the tiges. 2017 was the first season for us to take part in some form of preseason - on and off the court. With 5 weeks of fitness and 3 rounds of practice matches and 1 preseason bonding tripe - the tiges are looking fit and ready to fire. This year we have seen over 20 new faces to the club as well as a new look coaching department. We welcome Nichelle Liepa, 2017 A grade League BNF, Zillafit Fitness Guru and all round legend as C grade coach and Michelle “calls a spade a spade” Liepa bringing a wealth of netball knowledge to D grade. The mother daughter combo is already proving to be a success putting the girls through their paces. This week we take on the red legs - who over the years have provided a good competitive game and will give us a good game and will give us a good indication of where we are placed for the year. Nothing but positives to come out of our tiger den, in the words of Ash Foot “Yeaaaahhhh Netball!!”
