MPNFL Updates MPNFL Update Round 2 2017 Here we are at Round 2 or the Easter Round as most people will know it by. Plenty of action across the peninsula this weekend with games across the whole weekend, from Good Friday, Easter Saturday and Easter Sunday! Enjoy this time of the year with your family and friends, if you decided to have a few drinks while at the football or netball make sure you do so responsibly, there will be an increase police presence down along the peninsula, so certainly think about how you are traveling to and from venues.

A reminder of a few themed and feature rounds coming up; 14th- 16th April 2017 – Round 2: Easter Weekend 22nd April 2017 – Round 3: ANZAC Round 29th April 2017 – Round 4 6th May 2017 – Round 5: Community Umpiring Round 13th May 2017 – AFL Victoria Community Championships With all that said, we hope you enjoy your local football and netball this week, and have a Happy Easter. Best of luck to all sides.

What a week round 1 produced not only with results but also what mother nature produced. There were 4 games in total called off after three-quarter time, due to the inclement weather. So we hope that this week you have the umbrella packed and ready to go, in case it gets wild again. There is now only 5 more weeks until the ultimate battle between ourselves and the Geelong FNL to claim the number one title in league rankings though the state. The AFL Victoria Community Championships will certainly be highlighted this year having the 1v2 game at the MCG. Please stay tuned for further details in the coming weeks.

AFL South East Structure Update

Governance

Chairman Roger Hampson on Tuesday 11th April, announced important additions to the AFL South East governance structure. The Region General Manager position has been filled by John Anderson, who has been in the interim role since January, now being appointed to the role on a permanent basis. John has been involved in key projects since taking the interim role and we are very pleased to advise of his ongoing appointment following a competitive process conducted by the Commission in conjunction with AFL Victoria. John’s most recent experience has been as CEO of Harness Racing Victoria and prior to that as CEO of the Melbourne Football Club. There have also been two appointments to the AFL South East Commission to fill AFL Victoria approved vacancies. The new Commission appointments are: Molina Asthana: Molina is a Principal Solicitor with the Victorian Solicitor General’s Office, who also holds several Board positions within the legal profession. Molina is an AFL Multicultural Community Ambassador and on the AFL advisory Committee for multicultural engagement. She is also Founder of the organisation Multicultural Women in Sport which aims to empower migrant women from multicultural backgrounds through sport. Anita Jonceski: Anita has extensive experience in State Government Departments, predominantly with the

Department of Justice, in the area of strategic communication. Anita’s most recent experience is as a communication advisor within the Commission for Children and Young People with responsibilities in the areas of Child Safe Standards and Reportable Conduct. Like Molina, Anita has professional skills which will be valuable to the Commission in important areas of communication and child safety. Mr Hampson said that these appointments add value to the AFL South East Commission particularly in the management, legal, communications and multicultural areas and we wish Molina, Anita and John well in their new positions. Other recent additions to the Commission have been representative appointments for the respective competitions, namely Doug Bailey (SEJ) and Ryan Ford (SEFNL). AFL Vic Country LOCAL GOVERNMENT FORUM STRENGTHENS FOOTBALL’S FUTURE The future of Australian Football in Victoria is bright, following the success of AFL Victoria’s Local Government Forum at Punt Road Oval last month. More than 90 per cent of Victoria’s Local Councils, along with representatives from other key sporting organisations were in attendance to discuss future planning for football across the State. Created in 2013, the biennial event was designed to showcase the strategic direction of football in Victoria and acknowledge the important role that Local Government plays in the development and growth of our game. Hosted by Nicole Livingstone OAM, representatives heard from key community football presenters about AFL Victoria’s range of programs, designed to increase and strengthen participation in every corner of the state. AFL General Manager of Football Operations Simon Lethlean, Richmond CEO Brendon Gale, AFL great Matthew Richardson and AFL Women’s stars Alicia Eva and Lauren Arnell were also in attendance to discuss the importance of the health of community football to the development of our game at the elite level. The 2017 Local Government Forum also saw the launch of AFL Victoria’s 2017 – 2022 Strategic Plan and the 2017 – 2022 Football Facilities Development Strategy ‘Growing the Heartland’. Outlining the direction of Australian Football in Victoria for the next six years, the documents summarise AFL Victoria’s role in facility provision and identifies the key strategies to support football at all levels right across Victoria.

Football Preview GREAT CHANCE FOR PYTHONS PINES lost its opening two games last season before fighting back to play finals. A year on, the Pythons can go to 2-0 and surge towards the top of the ladder by beating LANGWARRIN today. It’s a great chance for Paddy Swayn’s side, which looks to have plenty of quality. Tim Bongetti (four goals last week), Luke Potts and Guy Hendry have started the season well, along with Ben Thomas, Reece Stewart and Shane Waterstone who will be key figures again today. Langwarrin endured two goalless quarters in its first-up loss last week and the Kangas will need to find more firepower if they’re to challenge the top sides. The positive news for Brad Dredge’s side, though, is that Michael Parker, Shane Paterson, Gerard Brown and Kieran Albanese have started the season strongly. The biggest rivalry in local footy reignites on Good Friday when FRANKSTON YCW and MT ELIZA go toe-to-toe in a grand final rematch at John Coburn Oval. The Redlegs believe they have the side to topple the Stonecats this year, but YC have been challenged before and they have a habit of coming out on top. Frankston YCW recruit Christian Ongarello made an excellent debut for the Stonecats last week, adding to the best backline in the comp alongside Kevin Lylak and Byron Barry. Impressive

Mt Eliza looked sharp last week, with recruits Shane Tennant, Grant Goodall and Brett O’Hanlon adding to the Redlegs’ depth of talent. Nick Strickland looks set to make his mark, while Rohan Heasley is again a key man. Dion Jackson and Brenton Lambert are players to watch. After an excellent first-up win, EDI-ASP tackles local rivals BONBEACH at Regents Park on Good Friday. The Eagles zoomed to top spot after dispatching Chelsea by 53 points last week when they looked strong on all lines, with Dermot Cleary, who won Oakleigh’s B&F last season, making an impressive Eagles debut. Liam Harris, Brendan Neville and skipper Steve Mannix also hit the ground running, while the Eagles’ forward line looks multipronged, with Mick Meehan, Will Flavelle and Michael Bussey all capable of booting big bags. Bonbeach will be desperate to open its winning account and the Sharks won’t be frightened of the Eagles. Bonny beat Edi-Asp twice last season, including a 12-goal thumping in the elimination final. Former AFL man Trent Dennis-Lane, after a quiet start, will look to hit his straps and inspire Bonbeach today, along with Shane McDonald, Jackson Casey and Owen Hulett. Bonny’s response will be worth watching.

Football Preview Both SEAFORD and CHELSEA will be chasing their first win of the season in a big clash at the Tiger Den. Seaford served it right up to Mt Eliza last week before going down by 22 points and Ben Murhpy’s Tigers look capable of taking another step forward this season. Tom Shaw looked happy to be back in Tigers colours last week while former Karingal youngster Kyle Nunn and ex-Norwood forward Matt McCormack made an excellent Seaford debuts. Curtis Murfett, Dean Williamson and Kieran Shaw also played good footy last week. Chelsea’s new-look side made a run at Edi-Asp before half-time last week before losing by 53 points. It’s nearly 12 months since the Seagulls’ last win and coach Brett Dunne would love to see his players’ hard work rewarded with a moraleboosting win. After starting the season with a gritty win, KARINGAL is eyeing a very attractive 2-0 record when it hosts MORNINGTON at Frankston Park. The Bulls showed tremendous spirit under new coach Andrew Sharp to claw its way to an 11-point win over Langwarrin in the wet last week. In exciting signs, the Bulls moved the ball well as Jacob Duscher, Damien Ashcroft, Jake Kelly and Bailey Frey made an impact, along with the champ Michael Burke. Mornington made an explosive start to the season last week when it had reigning champs Frankston YCW under the pump, sprinting to a 29-point lead, before losing by 22. The Bulldogs forward line looks lively with Jackson Calder, Stu Seager, Dale Whelan and recruit Rhys Healey looking dangerous, while Emilio Bitters and Ryan Smith are in for big seasons.

IN THE RESERVES… LANGWARRIN fired off 18 goals in an eye-popping start to the season last week, with Dale Binks, Mitch Mathie and Sean Herdman providing reliable targets. The Kangas will be hoping for more of the same against PINES. There will be two cracking games on Good Friday, when undefeated EDI-ASP and BONBEACH clash, and FRANKSTON YCW hosts MT ELIZA. Edi-Asp will look to Darcy Warke, Max Byrnes and Justin Chant to fire up again, while Redlegs Nick McKinnon and Aaron McIlroy are the men to watch against the Stonecats.

IN THE UNDER 19s… FRANKSTON YCW and MT ELIZA started the season with thumping wins last week, setting up a big clash on Good Friday. Exciting Stonecat Lachlan Street, after drilling seven goals last week, is the player to watch, along with Redlegs dynamo Zane Hill. EDI-ASP looks strong with Nathan Gaunt and James Hickey among a bunch of classy Eagles. They will serve it up to BONBEACH, which started with a win. Sizzling displays by Lachlan Hinde and Tom Baker ensured KARINGAL got the points last week and the Bulls will be tough to beat against MORNINGTON.

The Under 19’s kicked the day off with strong 104 point win. Amongst the best were N. Gaunt, J. Hickey, B. Ward, M. Moloney, C. Neale, V. Kovacic The reserves followed and were slow out of the blocks. A half time bake from Coach Fitcher did the trick with the boys responding with 8 goals to 2 in the second half. Better players included B.Langenberg, T.Yeowart, J.O’Neill, M.Greenwood, D.Warke The seniors opened up with 4 goals in the first and were never troubled from then. A 7 goal to 1 second half sealed the game and when the heavens opened in the last we were well in front. Best players on the day were L. Harris, D. Cleary, B. Neville, S. Mannix, M. Mullins, M. Bussey Our great netballers also won all 3 games and were never troubled on the day. A strong start to the Football Netball season with 5 out of 7 team victories. The day was highlighted with the under 19’s coming from behind to snatch a memorable win for new coach Thommo. A huge mention to the under 17 boys who capitalised on a strong preseason under Boxy outrunning the opposition in difficult conditions. Positive signs from our undermanned Senior side going down by 3 goals in a shortened match due to lightning. A good club Debut from Gav Vassallo as well as new vice captain Owey and Captain Jacko leading from the front. A terrific home game day for the kids with the jumping castle, face painting and live music providing lots of off field fun. Netball continues its resurgence with 3 strong wins. The girls are looking forward to taking on the best against Edi Asp this week. No bigger game day than Good Friday as we head to Edithvale for our annual clash. The match is always played in great sprit and the finals like atmosphere makes the day one to savour. We look forward to the Bonbeach faithful attending in full force. Go Sharks!

Club Notes Today we welcome Mt Eliza to the Coburn Oval for our first hosting of Good Friday football and netball. For the Numero’s it’s the Grand Final rematch and we look forward to another titanic struggle with the Mounties. Last week we ventured to Doggieland where we experienced all sorts of April weather extremes. The Ones successfully retained the Aidan Graham Shield with a 22 point win. The Doggies got off to a flyer but a 9 goal second term got us a half time lead which we maintained in a tight second half. Lachie had a great game along with Bysa and Kev L. Josh Butts marked well and booted 4 goals whilst Chris O made a sound debut. Murph’s Men had a handy break at half time and held on for a gritty 9 point win. Jack Butts and Brendan Marchy went well whilst Wako and Tyler kicked 4 goals each. The Unders ran away with their game in the second half keeping the Doggies goalless. Streety with 7 goals was probably best whilst Gus Wright and Sam Hatch were prominent. Josh Berenger made an impressive StoneCats debut. The Netballers won three games – check their notes. Get along on Thursday nights for Hatchy’s raffles and the Members Draw (you have to be there to win), have a meal and imbibe a few frothies. You can also solve world problems The Annual Anzac Derby with Karingal is on Sunday April 23 this year at Frankston Park where the Berenger - Watts trophy is up for grabs. May 7 is our trip to Sandown Dogs. Tanny has all the details but the package includes a bus to and from.

Club Notes Thanks to our Sponsors and Wisechoice for the great Luncheon last Saturday and special thanks to our guest speaker Ken Piesse. On the field and the U/19’s and Reserves unfurled their Flags with good wins, whilst the Seniors recorded a solid win in tricky conditions after half time. Thanks to the Seaford people who stuck around in great numbers at the end of the day. To the results and the U/19’s started with a 5 goal to 2 1st term and were never in danger from then on, scoring 11.7 to 1.1 to record an 83 point win. Hilly & Scotty kicked 9 between them & Daniel House booted 3. Better players also included Jimmy Logan, Aiden Smith & Jacko. The Reserves started slowly and trailed 4.5 to 2.2 at qtr time. We kicked the only goal of the 2nd, the 3rd saw no majors scored but we kicked away late with 4.4 to 1.0 to win by 2 goals. Best players were McKinnon, McIlroy, Trent, Knotty, Stricko Snr (2) & Toucs. In the Seniors we welcomed debutants Dion Jackson & Sam Danks, along with new players Brett O’Hanlon, Grant Goodall & Shane Tennant. We started well with 11 scoring shots to 1 but only led by 20 at qtr time. Seaford won the 2nd with 3 goals to 2. After the break we kicked the first couple before the sand storm but they kicked the next 3 to bridge the gap to just 7 points at 3/4 time. In the rain in the last we saw off early attacks from Seaford to kick the only 3 goals to win by 22. Jordy booted 3 and JV a couple. At this stage we have 7 games confirmed here with the remaining 2 likely depending on ground condition as the season progresses Last week at Langy we had the full experience of Melbourne weather at its finest as a storm rolled in at 3QT of a hard fought Senior win. We had plenty of the ball early in but struggled into the wind before settling into the contest and executing the game plan The Reserves had a tough one but we did see some positive signs from a group where many hadn’t played together before. Last week at the kennel the Seniors jumped out of the blocks and played some fantastic footy with 6 goals to 1 in the 1st quarter. New players Xavier Barry-Murphy, Rhys Healy and Dean Kairies were showing plenty, Jacko was looking dangerous up forward and midfield were winning the stoppage battle. An all in brawl at quarter time distracted us from the job at hand and YCW came back hard, dominating contested ball and getting back in front by 16 points at the main break. After half time the weather rolled in, the wind picked up and changed direction toward the end YCW were kicking to. We managed to narrow the gap to 11 points and had the breeze in the last quarter but the rain smashed down and YCW’s experience came to the fore and we fell short by 22 points. Encouraging signs from a side that hasn’t played much footy together, looking forward to bouncing back against Karingal today. Reserves- Boys started of well plenty of run and taking control of the game early, in the 2nd we dropped off with our talk and run and at 1/2 time down by a couple of goals.The rest of the game was a tug of war with the boys just going down by 9 points. Unders - It was a tough initiation for our pups. We showed some great signs early but as the pace of the game increased we struggled to keep up with the impressive YCW outfit. Firstly it was great to see so many supporters out at Emil Madsen Reserve last week. I’m sure our supporters would have been pleased to see the improvement in our senior ranks even the results didn’t go our way as the Redlegs will be there in the thick of it come September time. It was also a mighty effort by our U19s to be as competitive as they were. In what has been a tough off season for the lads, the effort shown across 4 quarters shows the ticker in the group. Don’t forget to check out the Player Auction Groups in today’s record. The Player Auction will not be held til Rd4 of the Peninsula FNL but the syndicates can start today to pencil a few cheap buys. The shaded player names are those who have already showed form to be in the vote getters already in Netball & Mens Football. The Rettes players were top 3 vote getters last year. Well that wasn’t the start we were looking for with Edi heading home with the 4 points in all grades. The 19’s got beaten by a really good team which just jumped them early and they never recovered. The boys tried really hard in the second half and tuffed it out and will get better. Best players were King’y , Lex , Jesse D and new boy’s Coby Farrow and Nick Haslem were both good as well. In the Seconds we pretty much blew a good first half performance away by dropping off in the 2 nd Half. We have a good list of players and just need to run out games so the guy’s playing well are ready to take in next step. Pont’s , Nick and Brodie we all solid with good support from big Stuey, also great to see Chris Hatzis back in the Hoops. The main game was a hard fought contest in the 1 st Half with both sides having a red hot go, unfortunately in the 3 rd Quarter we let them off the chain late which left us with a massive task. Lights on for the last Quarter and boy didn’t the weather turn sour, no excuses though as we lost our way before the final break. The positive was we had some new faces and they all performed well. Key backman Simon Mitchelhill was great and got good support from other new comers in Herdman and Hensel with new Ruckman Aaron Pawel also good. Francis , Silva and Todd all tried hard. Stay united and keep focused and the desired results will come our way. Big thanks to all who helped on Saturday, home games are a huge workload. See you at the Gullery !!

The 2017 season certainly started with a bang. Being hosted by Bonbeach the three games were all competitive with the unders going down in the last ten minutes by 4 points. A lot to look forward to for the boys and coach Jackson. In the reserves we looked competitive up until the second half and although we stayed with Bonbeach until late in the game, we ran out of legs. Overall a good effort against last years grand finalists. The firsts was also competitive until a bizarre change of weather saw us kicking with a massive wind in the last. The game was called when the electrical storm became dangerous - a decision that was supported by all. We look forward this week to playing against our neighbours, Langwarrin, in our first game at home. It might be a bit uncomfortable given the excavations for the car parking, so please bear with us as this work is completed. Good luck to all three sides.

We welcomed Karingal for our traditional first round clash at Lloyd Park. With a new “ Kanga Bar “ and a car to raffle the off season has been a very busy one at the club. It was good to see many fans at the game. Th 19’s started the day well in a hotly fought contest. Both sides moved the ball well , and it was good to Jacob Brooker returning after an extended injury lay off. We ran the ball well, and played on where we could. We couldn’t maintain our 3rd quarter lead and went down in the end by 13 points . Good play from M. Peynenborg, B. Smith, K. Allen. The boys have plenty of room for improvement but there were encouraging good early signs. It was fantastic to see our Reserves play so well throughout their game. We were never headed. Tanners, Binks, Sean Heardman and Mitch Mathie all played well and shared the goals. As the wind picked up our Seniors took to the field. A tight tussle,and good teamwork up back , saw neither team be able to take full advantage of kicking with the wind. The 3rd quarter saw Karingal kick a couple and as the Heavens opened up in the last we had our work cut our for us if we were going to peg them back. Repeated shots in the last either fell short or just missed and our inaccurate kicking to a scoreless Karingal may well have cost us the game. A tireless Patto, Parker , Golby and Hamill all played well. We hope all 3 teams take it right up to the Pines today. Keep an eye on the Facebook page for all upcoming events. Go Langy !!

Easter Weekend Welcome to the crazy round played over 3 days. For some it’s the 4th full moon of the year, for others it’s the 1st full moon of the football season. Either way we know that all the loonies come out to play. If you have ever worked in an industry that deals with the public like our Police, Ambos, Firemen and Women, plus the health care industry you understand what a full moon means. Everywhere you look there are crazy people. I do ask however, who are the craziest of all? The footballers who we are there to watch, the paying public who are the real experts on football (just ask any one of them and they will tell you) or the umpires, of which there are 3 groups. Field, Boundary and Goal. The quick answer is the women and men, girls and boys who umpire football. The next question you must ask is, amongst this group of individuals who are the looniest? Again, the answer is simple. It must be the loony ones that run between the behind posts. I hear the goal umpires groan “not again” but they are wrong. It is the boundary umpires. You must ask yourself what goes through the mind of a boundary umpire during a game. I asked one who just happens to be my son. His first answer was interesting. “I don’t know. Just trying to keep my eye on the ball and anticipate where the ball is going.” He didn’t have a second answer. This says to me that there is not much going on

between the ears however they might also be the smart ones of the group. Think about it. You constantly hear the players and crowd questioning every decision a field umpire makes or more to the point doesn’t make. The advice given to goal umpires on any close decision can border on the insane, however the boundary umpires must only worry about their hair and the way it flows as they sprint past like the flash from behind post to behind post. As a goal umpire who regularly relies on the looniest umpires of all (the boundary umpire) I thank you for your craziness. Keep up the great work. It takes a certain type of person to want to umpire, but those people who take the brave step, often benefit greatly from all umpiring offers. Netball Preview Edi Asp V Bonbeach The reigning premiers are fresh after a week off while Bonbeach got the four points in a thriller last week over Pines. This game will be played on Good Friday Frankston YCW V Mt Eliza Last week both the Stonekittens and Redlegs suffered losses. They will be hoping to turn those results around this week in the Good Friday match at Jubilee Park. Karingal V Mornington Karingal take on Mornington this week The Bulls had a great start to season 2017 with a massive win over Langwarrin while the Doggies also had a great win over YCW at home. Pines V Langwarrin Both the Pythons and the Roos will be looking for their first win this week in round two. Pines narrowly lost to the Sharks while The Roos suffered a massive loss at the hands of the Bulls. A Pines home game on Easter Saturday â&#x20AC;&#x201C; who will turn their loss of the week before around? Seaford V Chelsea The Tigers girls get the rest this week with a bye. They won their round one match against Mt Eliza last week by 5 goals.

Seaford Tigers

On Saturday we took on the mighty red legs and what a round it was. Over half our squad made their debut as a tige and aren’t we happy with these welcomed additions! Our C and D girls started off a bit shaky with the round 1 nerves, but by the end of the game started to find their feet. The Mounties have definitely set the standard and shown us what we have to work on. The B grade game was score for score making it was very hard to tell who won, but I think from memory Mt Eliza snuck away with a 40 goal victory. It was evident the well experienced side had quite a few years of court time together in comparison to our new team. Don’t be disheartened girls plenty of good stuff to come out of the game we have so much potential once we learn how each other play! BOC goes to Alannah “Lay” Hales (still not sure how you got that nickname) hunting those intercepts down better than Bear Grylls ever could in the wild. After D, C and B cleaned up with the silvers, our A grades managed to balance out that seesaw game and got to take home the chocolates. The girls didn’t miss a beat. Teamwork makes the dream work every day of the week and these girls have the qualities of a premiership winning team. BRING ON 2017!

Mornington Bulldogs

At Jubilee Park up against Frankston YCW the A Grade Bulldogs came out firing in their match against YCW. All the girls performed well & we had a well-deserved and convincing 13 goal win in the end with the side never looking troubled. Bulldogs B Grade squad came up against a much taller and well drilled YCW side. Despite being under-manned the team showed a lot of promise in their performance. Can only improve from here on. Bulldogs C Grade - It was a great first hit out, unfortunately YCW just wanted the win more. Their goaling was very accurate as opposed to ours, putting up 53 shots and only scoring 29 of them. It was a strong defensive game for us. We now need to capitilise on the turn overs and score the shots. We got plenty of the ball we just didn’t take care in disposing it, we will call it first game nerves, only one way from this game with these talented girls and that’s UP Bulldogs D Grade - Again another good start to the season. We put up 33 shots, only scoring 16. Again we got plenty of the ball, we just need to use it a lot better than we did. We have an array of experience in the D team from experience and age to youth and new to netball players. We have a lot to learn and look out when they put it all together. Go Doggies!

Chelsea Seagulls Rd 1: Chelsea wore rainbow laces to support LGBTI pride in sport. With A grade exemption we felt each of our grades were playing an equal competition. D grade fought a tough game. The girls gave it their best and EdiAsp gave us plenty to work on at training! Big shout out to Breanna who gave it a go in defence. We will definitely will be stronger next week. C grade started strong with our defence turning over centre passes regularly. The combo of Ally, Megan, Char and Perri proved a strong defence. Last year’s club best and fairest Kiah was a natural leader with her defensive pressure, voice and skills penetrating all the way down the court. The scoreboard showed that Chelsea C’s were able to maintain composure but unable to fight back. So many positives were taken from this first game with a new look C grade side and we will only grow from here. Our short B grade side were unsure how we would match up to a very tall Edi-Asp outfit. A team that normally gels well, we could not find our groove. Our new recruits, Katja, Amy and Gazzo were welcomed to the league in the toughest way. Katja’s performance was absolutely stellar and very hard to fault. For someone to slot into a team and perform at such a high standard was greatly welcomed by all at Chelsea. Best on performance in Round 1 from Kat! Gazzo also impressed in defence with her never-give-up attitude and assistance across the court. We have a lot to take away from this game, we look forward to shaping up to face Seaford!

What a great start to season 2017. Heading to Lloyd Park to take on our neighbours proved to be a successful Saturday out. D grade started the day off early with a new look side and came away with a four goal win. VC Jess and new goaler Nicole were best on court. C grade were up next and gelled well with only three new players in this side it showed. They came away with a 16 goal victory. Tayla Sutton was a stand out! B grade continued the winning ways with another excellent game. BBM killed it through the mid court while Rachel Mac was looking the goods back in the red and white! A grade started off slowly but came away with a 29 goal win. The old and new players gelled really well come the final siren the deficit reflected this. Renee Brewster was solid as always It was great to see Mards back on court after her GF injury. Next week we take on Mornington. A hard task in front of our squads. GO BULLS! #redwhiteboom

What a week! 3/4 wins! D grades shooting captains Tessa and Michelle were stand outs and led their team to a win! Up next C grade took control early and held onto their lead all the way to their first win! B came off second best in what was a physical battle that was neck and neck the whole way through, chin up girls and stick together. A grade, what a game! You had everyone on the edge of their seats holding their breaths as you stole the lead in the last minutes of the game to win by one! This week we head down to take on edi asp at their home ground and hopefully back it up and come away with some more wins! Go Sharks - Fins Up!!

The A Grade girls had a very tough hit out against Mornington in our first game. Unfortunately we let Mornington get the jump on us in the first quarter so we had to fight out the rest of the game. Each quarter after that we stuck close with them and our defensive pressure both down court and in the circle was fantastic to see. Missed opportunities and not being able to convert from these turnovers meant we went down at the final siren. BOG goes to Lyshae Barry who was everywhere defensively. Great to see the B grade girls win with a convincing win against some quality opposition. We certainly should have capitalised on a few more turnovers to further the gap on the scoreboard but awesome to start the season with the 4 points. BOG went to Maddie McLeish in the defensive end who applied some great pressure forcing loads of turnover. Great work Mads. The C grade girls were great coming away with a 42 - 29 win after an absolutely amazing fourth quarter. The centre court connected the ends with speed and understanding of what was required, our defenders worked hard applying pressure and our goalers did a fine job with converting. Lauren and Laura did a fantastic job on the wings. D grade girls, worked really well together, supporting and backing one another up. Still getting to know each other on the court they did a great job to come away with the win. BOG goes to Kristy who led from the start of game with amazing talk and defence work. #keepingupwiththekittens

Mt Eliza Red Legs What a fantastic start to Round 1, 4 wins would have been the cherry on the cake, however to walk away with 3 out of 4 in round 1 is a great effort. D GRADE started the day in fine form scoring a fantastic 54 goals in their first game. With plenty of new faces the game on display was nothing short of amazing. Krystal, Jordyn & Brianna teamed well in goals while Taya played a great game in the mid court. C GRADE followed the same path & played a quality level of netball for 4 quarters, their effort and intensity built as the game went on which saw them walk away with a 42-29 win. Steph C drove the mid court well while Mandy & Katelyn held up the defensive end well. B GRADE came out firing & after many close games with Seaford over recent years really wanted to leave a lasting impression for what they have to offer this season. They certainly did this walking away with a 60-21 goal win. Abbey was amazing in goals with fantastic accuracy & beautiful movement. Carly R dominated the mid court while some promising signs came from our young guns Jamie & Julia. A GRADE always have a close match with Seaford which is always entertaining to watch. Both teams came out ready to play & the match looked like it could go either way all day, unfortunately Seaford had more in the tank when the whistle blew at the end of

Pines Pythonettes Excitement was an understatement when describing how we felt about finally getting out on court for round 1 of 2017! Here we saw a mixed bag of results against Bonbeach for the new look Pythonettes. D grade had a tough start to the season, but all credit to girls, they did exactly what was asked of them and fought it out until the end and still came off the court with a smile on their face and ready to go into the next round. Morgan shined in defence and showed her coach that she can step up into the GD position when the rest of the court needed to be shuffled around. C grade also worked hard and although they didn’t come away with the win, they know exactly where improvement is needed in order to get their first win of the season. Newcomer Kim couldn’t miss a goal all game and showed that the combination with her and Chelsie is going to be hard to compete against further into the season. B Grade were explosive and powerful in their movements across all areas of the court and showed the rest of the competition that they are here this season with the aim of finals! The A grade game certainly did not disappoint with a game going down to the wire. With Bonbeach recruiting well over the season our A grade were extremely disappointed with a one goal loss, but are determined to bring this motivation into round 2 and gain their first win for the season. Get excited for the first 2017 function this week.... White Night!!

Langwarrin Kangaroos Meeting Karingal in Round 1 was always going to be a challenge! We didn’t come away with any wins, but put up a competitive fight in every grade. D grade kicked us off and proved they are a force to be reckoned with in 2017! Returning from having a baby, captain Skye stood up and lead her team with guts and determination. Narrowly losing by only 4 goals, a lot of promising signs were unveiled. Our C grade girls never gave up. With the run of Jess through the middle and experience of Leah dictating our goaling circle, seemed problematic at times for Karingal. Our C chicks fought hard to the end and gave it their all in tough windy conditions. A newly formed team in B grade started off extremely well, nicely gelling and making for an exciting year ahead. Best on court honours goes to returning player Shandell, she showed courage and extreme determination and gave Karingal a run for their money. Strongly supported by captain Dane, only accelerated this teams confidence for the future ahead. New recruits were welcomed in A grade, with each one. helping guide our younger players on court. Absolutely starring was youngster Emily, she caused havoc in defence, causing Karingal to rethink their approach. The intensity and fight shown on court was heavily applauded head coach Sara! Very exciting times down at Lloyd park, our Roo girls are strong and determined, and are looking forward to their next challenge!! Go Roo’s!!
