Bendigo Community Bank ANZAC Day Round Hot on the heels of an Easter weekend which saw big crowds across the Leagues, we have another extended round to commemorate ANZAC Day. In a stand alone fixture on ANZAC Day itself, Mt Eliza and Mornington will pay tribute to the fallen ANZACS with a full service before the game. Clubs across the weekend will also have variations of the theme to pay respects to those lost in wars over the generations. ANZAC Day is the anniversary of the landing of troops from Australia and New Zealand on the Gallipoli Peninsula in Turkey on April 25 1915. The ceremonies that take place on ANZAC Day remember the lives of those who died in military action. Football plays its part in ensuring the ANZAC tradition is maintained. Watch out for Narre Warren, Cranbourne and Rosebud in their commemorative ANZAC Day jumpers. Local Boys selected The hopes of several local boys aiming for an AFL career have been enhanced, with selection in the TAC Vic Country U18 squad. The following boys (with their junior clubs in brackets) have been selected in the preliminary squad.

The NAB U18 Championships commence on June 11. Frankston Dolphins Mornington Peninsula Clubs received a financial boost this week with the announcement that a Frankston Dolphins sponsor would contribute $2,000 to each MPNFL Club, in return for Highgrove Bathrooms signage at their ground. Gary Buckenara (Manager) and the Dolphins Committee are not only working hard to get a VFL licence returned to Frankston, but also to engage more with community football in the area. Bendigo Community Bank WorkSafe Game of the Month returns! A number of community football clubs in regional Victoria will welcome the return of the WorkSafe Game of the Month in season 2017. This year is set to be bigger and better than ever, with eight exciting WorkSafe Games of the Month planned in leagues across the state with our first event kicking off in the South West Football Netball League on April 30. Now in its 15th year, the WorkSafe Game of the Month centres around traditional grudge matches between country football and netball club rivals and attract large crowds of fervent supporters.

Football Preview Bombers to Bounce Back By Toe Punt Frankston Bombers will bounce back from its shock defeat at the hands of Pearcedale last week and beat Hastings on Sunday. The Bombers and the local footy world was in shock last week when an 8-goal haul from Sydney premiership captain Barry Hall led the Dales to an unlikely win against the Bombers on Good Friday. Many thought coming into the season that the Bombers were the yardstick, despite not winning the flag last season. They recruited well in the off-season and from all reports, had a faultless pre-season. Not to mention 2017 was about redemption for the way it ended 2016. The 2016 flag was won by its opponent on Sunday Hastings! The Blues’ start to the season too has been less than ordinary. The Blues have three wins from three matches and you can’t do much more than bank the four points. However, the way they have gone about winning those matches has been questionable. The Blues trailed Tyabb at quarter time, trailed Rye at half time and trailed Devon Meadows at three quarter time. These three sides are expected to fill the bottom three or four places on the ladder.

That’s hardly good form from a reigning premiership side. Questions start to get raised - complacency, premiership hangover, lack of hunger etc are all words and terms that start to get thrown around. The Blues are missing a few premiership players - that shouldn’t be an excuse for effort. In such a tight season, Hastings needs to recapture its 2016 finals form quickly. Frankston has its own concerns. Coach Beau Muston will be missing for a bit with a knee injury (awaiting scan results) and they have some players out of form. However, at Greg Beck Oval, in front of a home crowd and up against the side that beat them for the flag, the Bombers will find something extra. The RPP Match of the Round today on 98.7FM is that between Rosebud and Red Hill. The Buds and Hillmen couldn’t come into this game on the back of any better form. Rosebud had 41 scoring shots on Good Friday against Rye and completely dominated - that was without Davidge and Spooner. Greg Bentley and Keegan Downie brought their own footballs to the ground and hardly had it out of their hands. To keep things in perspective though, they did play Rye. Red Hill hosted Crib Point on Easter Sunday. The Pies were coming off a sensational win against Tyabb, although that’s proved to be a false form line! Red Hill looked fast, skilful, well structured and organised. They carved-up the Pies and with Chris Irving in the middle and Ben Hughes at full forward, they look a much better side than in 2016. To reiterate, the Buds and Hillmen played sides not expected to make finals. The real test for both teams comes today. The Buds will look to pressure and press while the Hillmen will look to switch and spread. Whoever gets it right wins. Two of our games most exciting talents are Keegan Downie and Jonah Siverson and the clash between these two today will be worth the gate fee, along with bulls Bentley and Irving in the middle. Young Red Hill ruckman Harry Wynn-Pope was outstanding last week too. He’ll learn a lot from the best in the business Ben Dywer. He just needs to break even! Somerville plays host to Pearcedale in what should be an intriguing game. The Dales coach Leigh Stewart watched every game of the Eagles last season and knows the players intimately. That will assist in planning but he can’t influence execution. Stewart will also be unaware of the new games plan and style of the Eagles under new coach Bevan Malloy. After the excitement of having Daniel Kerr and Barry Hall play in the team in successive weeks and after a wonderful

Football Preview victory last week, one wonders whether the Dales will have a let down? Young players including Cottrell, Dalmau and Prior, Jacobson and Daniel Heijden, have been superb. Somerville couldn’t have done much more against Tyabb and its form the week before against Red Hill now stacks up.

Good to see Timmy Mcgenniss back to his best last week, Everitt getting amongst it and Adrian Speedy’s start to the season has been vintage for him. Justin Farrelly’s wrist injury will hurt the Eagles against Prior. Regardless, at home, they should get the job done. Dromana and Tyabb should be an interesting match - both have been pathetic this season. The Yabbies promised the world in the preseason and continue to be the whipping boys of the competition - it doesn’t appear right now that there is a lot of improvement. No good being social media champions and not bring it to where it matters. Dromana too has been extremely disappointing. The Tigers brought in a couple of recruits who were supposed to solve their big man problems - that’s hard to achieve when they can’t get near the footy. Rikki Johnston and Adam Hunter have been stars of our game for the Tigers for more than a decade - who’s going to put their hand up and give them a hand. Dromana are front runners. Good when they’ve got the footy but lazy when they haven’t. Not enough players stick their head over the footy. Not enough players give 100% often enough. Let’s hope both teams have a fair dinkum crack today and repay some of the faith their club has put in them.

Football Preview In years gone by, a clash between Sorrento and Rye was mouth-watering. Today, we simply pray that it’s not an embarrassment for the young Demons. Sorrento will be close to fully loaded today and they were dominant against Dromana at home last week. Jayden Tomkin played in the twos last week and he is in their best 22. Chris Dawes will probably miss one more with a hammy. Rye is in rebuild mode and from all reports early in the week, Adam Kirkwood was going to miss with sore ribs. One on one footy is the only way for Rye to try and stop the damage. Can’t knock Rye’s endeavour though early in the season but it doesn’t get any easier for them. Devon Meadows and Crib Point should be another intriguing battle. The Panthers can consider themselves stiff in the first two games - they could quite easily be two and zip. Pushing the reigning premiers for three quarters last week was a good result. This is a game that both teams would have pencilled in for a win. Crib Point was disappointing last week and it was a concern to see numbers pushed behind the footy so early in the match. Both sides need to attack the game and try and win it that’s Glenn Michie’s way. Pies coach Brad Arnold has enough weapons to test the opposition in the forward half and needs to give them every opportunity. At home, the Panthers should get the job done in a close one.

Our first home game for 2017 and we welcome Tyabb to the Tigers Den. Our sponsors for this round are The Peninsula Club and Global Plumbing. Our last round efforts against Sorrento showed that our U19s are competitive and will improve as our young players gain experience. The Reserves met a very experienced Sorrento side and were probably out muscled. The Seniors showed they can match it with any side but need to do it consistently over four quarters. Today’s games should give all our teams an opportunity to break the ice for 2017 but if we let complacency take hold we could quite easily be embarrassed so four quarter efforts from all teams is the order of the day. If you haven’t bought a membership this year we encourage you to as you will save on gate entry cost, also you will note that Footy Records are now $2:00 as previously they were selling below cost, or you could sponsor a player for $220 inc GST which includes Membership and entry in a Raffle for a Ticket to the President’s Luncheon. Next Saturday sees a Pizza and Music night at the rooms and a Ladies Luncheon on the 6th May (Mothers Day W/E) with guest speakers. The club is also looking at opening the bar on a Friday night so see our Bar Manager Tim for details. We are still looking for some volunteers for various areas around the club including on the Board. So if you feel you have something to contribute speak to Fred Tyres. It was a much better effort from the senior squad against Somerville. Despite there being plenty of room for improvement it was pleasing to see the development of our young players in Harris, Williams & Regan who provide plenty of drive across the ground. Each week we are seeing plenty of pressure for senior spots & this week has been no different. We play Dromana today with high expectations from the 1st 22. We are looking for a team who are committed and willing to go hard for 4 qtrs. After a win last week the reserves side was full of confidence going into the round 3 game. The preparation and warm up was a lot better & this showed as we jumped away to good start. We created plenty of opportunities in the first half but some wayward goal kicking in the second term held us back from taking a larger lead. Three goals apiece in the third term saw us take an 11 point lead at the final change. From there we were able to forge ahead in the last to win by 20 points Great effort & fabulous numbers on the track continuing will see this side go from strength to strength. STREWTH! What a ripper! Welcome everyone to Bomberland for our traditional Anzac clash with Hastings. Anzac day is an iconic day on the Australian calender and we urge every Bomber player, member & supporter to show the respect that our returned servicemen deserve. In addition to today, we invite the entire Bomber family to the Frankston dawn service before moving on to the Grand for a yummy breakfast. Congratulations to the Pearcedale foory club for a great day of local footy on Good Friday. The bumper crowd was treated to an enthralling game & unfortunately for us the siren went with the Panthers in front courtesy of another B Hall goal. Dale Sutton, Nathan Lonie & Scotty Foster all flew the flag for the red & black. The Reserves had another good day at the office with an 8 goal win. Cam O’Neill led from the front with great support from Best & Tournier. The Thirds are up & about and you should do yourself a favour and watch & support the boys. Barnett & Housden played some great footy and Lachie Avery kicked 4 majors. Looking for some new wheels? Well the season could not of got off to a better start, with all teams winning their first 3 matches to be all on top of the ladder, I wonder if that has ever happened before? It is especially pleasing to see the under 19’s have such a good start to the year, and I’m sure there will be quite a few more wins to come, the Reserves are playing good football at the moment, and like the thirds they will be very competitive in every game they play. It took until the last quarter for the Senior team to start hitting their straps, they were given a very tough game by Devon, but a 7 goal last term saw them win reasonably comfortably. Big game today up against our Grand Final opponents from 2016, no doubt the Bombers will be hoping to turn the tables on last years result, but a win today from the Blues will see them get a little break over the team who are flag favourites! Today we welcome Red Hill to sunny Rosebud for our now regular ANZAC weekend fixture. We also extend a very warm welcome to our sponsors for our annual Sponsors Day and to our special guest speaker, North Melbourne legend Glenn Archer. We cannot overstate the value of the support we receive from our local businesses that enable our young men and women to represent our Club every weekend. Last week we brought home the Appleford-Luck Cup after an emphatic win over Rye and Greg Bentley was awarded the Luke Cain award for best on ground. It was also great to see another two players make their senior debut for the Club in Campbell Hustwaite and Blake Porta. The Development Team also got the job done with a 50 point win with Phil Jones best on ground while the Under 19s would have been disappointed with their 11 point loss. On the netball court the B & C Grade and Under 17 teams all had convincing wins while the A-Grade team fell 5 goals short. Make sure you stay back in the rooms tonight for the raffle draw for the and please come to the office in the social rooms if you would like to purchase your key for the chance to unlock the $5,000! Big day on the Hill last Sunday with three wins and the Healy-Emond shield remaining on our wall.The only hiccup being the unders who lost their compass to the golf posts. In the seniors the run and carry missing last week at Somerville was on display against a young and inexperienced side who never gave up trying.The pleasing thing was the 17 goals kicked by both the 1s and also the 2s on our big ground. Harry the hyphen made a promising debut and our recruits showed why we had tried so hard to have them in the Red and White. Josh had a number of players pushing up for senior selection including a group of last year ‘s U19 boys who played in the grand final. Thanks to the netballers and U19s who helped in the canteen and did other jobs around the club. You made the day a real success. To Kim Sherry a special thank you for the half time scones,jam and cream-most appreciated. Thanks also to the Cribby people for staying back and showing what country footy is all about. Rivalry and Camaraderie. Today we travel to our oldest rivals (1930) at Olympic Park to play the “Sand Boys”. We hope to come away with the spoils in football and netball. Today see us up against arch rivals Pearcedale. Both teams are undefeated at this early stage of the season and with bragging rights up for grabs and Pearcedale coached by club legend Leigh Stewart it is going to be a ripping contest! Last week saw us get 2 from 3 when we visited Tyabb at the Pond. U19s were in control all game and ran out 130 point winners. They only allowed Tyabb to score 1pt after quarter time which was pleasing and there was 12 individual goal kickers. The 2s were terribly disappointing in going down to Tyabb for the 2nd year in a row. They allowed Tyabb to kick 3 goals to none in the 1st quarter and that was basically the end margin with Tyabb running out winners by 20points. The 2s are yet to get a win on the board and once again U19s had to double up to make sure the team had a bench. The team needs to lift and get behind coach Noodles so there is no time like present to make that happen! The 1s were challenged early by Tyabb but an 8 goal second quarter gave us some breathing space for the rest of the game. We had 36 shots on goal compared to 16 and allowed Tyabb to kick 5 goals unanswered in the 3rd quarter which was disappointing. The lads need to switch on for the whole game. “Big Bad Barry’ did not disappoint with a bag of goals last week on what could be arguably the biggest day in football at Pearcedale. The crowds were huge and the Pearcedale faithful rallied with help for the club. A HUGE thanks to all of the volunteers who chipped in and helped make this day such a success. Thanks to Barry Hall for being such a great bloke and to the crowds of people who came to barrack for him. For those of you who managed to pick up a stubby holder didn’t Barry look great in the hoops? Looking forward to today we have ANZAC day clash against Somerville in the battle of the ‘Postcode Cup.” This fierce battle is not one to be missed. There are many sponsorship packages available at the club. Please see a committee member for a brochure. Apparel order forms are available from the bar. The new puffer vests look fantastic and will be fabulous to protect you against the elements as we head down the peninsula in the coming weeks. Last week was our first week back at Shark Park this year and it was an absolute cracker! All three teams had strong wins against our traditional Easter-weekend rivals, Dromana, and the home crowd came out in force to support the boys. One of the really pleasing aspects coming out of the Seniors’ game was the performance of our young and home grown talent, with Shannon Gladman, James Brigden, Chad Harris, Leigh Poholke and Danny Stephenson all featuring in the best. That’s a great sign for the club! This week it’s the local derby as we take on the Rye boys in what we’re sure will be another great battle. While the Rye Seniors are yet to get a win on the board this year, we all know that ladder positions go out the window when these two teams square up against each other. Everyone always seems to find that little bit extra when we take on the Rye boys and we’re expecting this week to be no different. We’re back at Shark Park again and expecting a big crowd to get out and support the boys for the ANZAC weekend. Let’s hope we can get another three wins and keep marching on with this great start to the season! Go Sharks!

Great win by the U/19’s last Saturday against Rosebud, and with 5 of the U/19 boys playing seniors and not playing U/19’s on the day, that made it even more sweeter. It’s been a long 4 years, since the dark old days of no U/16’s at the junior club and little junior talent coming through, but with the work of a lot of people in the junior and senior clubs, the light at the end of the tunnel is very bright indeed. Great games by Campbell Robbins, Gus Gordon, Richo, Barnsey, Benny Closter and the ‘Skipper’ Jayden Thomas. Big game today boys against Sorrento, and to get 2 wins on the trot. The reserves didn’t go about it the right way and were too undisciplined early in the game, and then the game had already slipped away from them by the 3rd quarter. More attack on the ball and working hard as a team is what’s needed. Best players “Pistol” Pete Hampton, “Banger” McLean, Mitch Hillyear, Thomo and Guy Lynch. The seniors after a good 1st quarter went missing in the next 3, allowing Rosebud to kick 17 goals to our 3. After our positive 1st half against Hastings the week before, it was disappointing. Full credit to Rosebud on winning back the Appleford/Luck trophy, and to Greg Bentley on taking home the Luke Cain Medal for BOG. Once again it is the time of year where football takes a back seat and we reflect on the amazing sacrifice of the people who came before us. ANZAC Day as we all know, marks the anniversary of the 1915 Gallipoli landing by the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps. On ANZAC Day we give our regards and respect to all who have served and/or still currently serving the military to defend our country and everything we stand for. We wouldn’t be here without you. I urge everyone to please make your way on Tuesday to a dawn service, whether it be your local RSL or at the Shrine in the city. It’s really not that hard and the small sacrifice to get out of bed early is instantly repaid once you hear the stories of years gone by and realise how good we have it now. In this day and age of iPhone, Facebook, selfies and instant gratification, it is almost impossible to believe what happened all those years ago. We are now so far removed from those days that it is easy to forget that these atrocities ever happened. This is why its even more important to make certain that we take the time and effort to be sure that we show the respect that the day deserves. Crib Point’s Under 19’s played their first official match of the season but unfortunately it didn’t all go to plan. The game was played in dewy conditions making the ball hard to handle. It was a tight contest all day with Red Hill went on to win by under two goals. Better players for Crib Point were Joel Wisken, Riley Bowman, Ryan Regan, Harri Dekleuver, Jarrod Fisk and Dylan VanRuyven. Crib Point’s reserves side was embarrassed by Red Hill with a 71 point defeat. The Hillman controlled the game from the first bounce and moved with ease all over the ground as Crib Point struggled to get their hands on the ball. The Pies lost defender Trystan Precht with a serious knee injury early in the day. A three quarter time spray from Coach Dale Crossman sparked a fight back in the last but it was never going to be enough to get the boys back as Red Hill enjoyed an easy win. Kyle Arnott was BOG and worked tirelessly all day and Tim Malcom is fast becoming the 2’s Mr. Reliable as he stood strong at full back . A similar story in the seniors with Crib Point continuing to struggle on the big ground against the Hillman. After a sluggish start they fought hard at times to claw their way back into the game but the damage was already done. It just goes to show in this competition you can’t you can’t drop your guard for a minute. Dean Warry was back to his usual best and Jayden Espenschied battled hard all day. Lets Bounce back this week against Devon !

And for our freedom they did. 102 years ago, men, women, boys and girls embarked on a quest to not only aid “the Mother Country” but also establish an Australian reputation and identity. An identity that would be recognised and respected the world over. “What happened to the open landing to provide an ambush on very easy terms?” Instead confronted by towering cliffs, dead-end gullies and dense low scrub these men found the Turk reinforcements rushing up in strength as if prepared. Brothers, sons, husbands, fathers and mates fell all around as the hills became wild and bloody. Sisters, daughters, wives, mothers and friends did all they could to tend for the wounded. Then they dug. Trenches lined the edges of the battlefield. And for the next 8 months the ANZACs stood firm. It was there that the Australian identity was born. Sacrifice, doggedness, mateship and courage in the face of almost certain death. It’s not about the size of the dog but the size of the bark in the dog. And the size of that bark gave a young nation a story and a spirit to be proud of. Many died young. Some would say as just a boy or a girl. But no man or woman who went to war, who saw the

horrors of the world, and tried to fight them could ever be considered just a mere boy or a simple girl. Instead they were folk whose spirit continues to live on in the blood of every Australian. On ANZAC day we celebrate the spirit of those who fought for our place in the world on the Gallipoli Peninsula. We also celebrate the survival of that spirit. We step back and appreciate and thank those who continue to stand up and fight. Those who protect us and shield us for the dangers of the growing world. Those would embody the spirit of the ANZACs. For all that they do for us the very least we can do I step back every once in a while and remember them. We will remember them. Bendigo Community Bank Nepean Netball Preview – Round 3 2017 Dromana v Tyabb Big game for both clubs this week. Dromana will be out to make it two wins in a row, whilst Tyabb will be looking for their first win of the 2017 season, a position the Yabbies haven’t found themselves in for some time. The Tigers were just too strong for Sorrento last week but will have a tougher opponent in Tyabb. Yabbies to get their first win of the year. Rosebud v Red Hill Rosebud would have gone into last week’s game versus Rye as favourites, but the red & blue had other plans. Red Hill had a big ask of them to defeat Crib Point and unfortunately for Red Hill, the game didn’t go their way. Like Tyabb, the ladies from the top of the hill will be looking for their first win of 2017, and should just get over the line. Somerville v Pearcedale Somerville have had a great start to the season with two solid wins to get them underway in 2017. The Eagles sit 3rd but share 8 points with Crib Point and Frankston. With the Bombshells having a bye this week, it gives Sommie a chance to move up the ladder.

Pearcedale probably hasn’t had the best start to the season but the Panthers put up a terrific effort against the new and improved Frankston. Somerville will continue their winning ways for this local derby. Sorrento v Rye Local derby number 2, and there is never any love lost between these two sides. Sorrento where overcome by a fierce Dromana outfit last week, and will be looking to improve the scoreline against the Demons. Rye will be feeling fine after their 5 point win and should take plenty of confidence into the game. Demons to get the points. Devon Meadows v Crib Point Crib Point continued their winning ways last Sunday with a convincing 22-point victory. The Magpies seem to have continued from where they left off last season, and it doesn’t look like it’s going to change either. Their challengers this week is Devon Meadows, and after having last week off, the Panthers will be refreshed and ready to go. It might be the handy advantage that they need to defeat Crib Point, but the ladies in just the back and white will get the tip. Frankston Bombshells - BYE

A-Grade – After a slow start the team fought their way back to be within 1 goal in the third quarter. A few more small mistakes ended our game 5 behind Rye. Although disappointed with the loss, the girls stayed focussed and contested well for the whole game. Awards – #1Millie, #2 Darci B-Grade – The team is going from strength to strength having another great win this week against Rye. We are proud of the way our team has come together and we are achieving some great results. The goal for the next few weeks is to maintain intensity and improve our last quarter!! Awards - #1 Baz in defence & #2 Shan in mid court. Indi also killed it in GS. C-Grade – What a Good Friday it turned out to be! With a wonderful front line dominating the ring, a steady mid court pulling together and a defence line holding down the fort. Our girls are getting around each other and being so confident with everything we do. Let’s smash out training and take on Red Hill with our positive attitude. Awards – #1 Lozzy, #2 Bridie. Under 17s – I was super impressed with the girls this week. Everyone played an outstanding game. With 10 playing and all playing so well it was difficult to take girls off. Once again the defenders were unstoppable, Hollie & Liz taking rebounds and intercepts left, right and centre. Shooters worked so well reading off each other and pressure down the court was constant. In the near-away land of Pearcedale court Frankston Bombshells were queens of the sport A dark little court. It was cold. It was damp. But there were wins a plenty. And plenty to champ. Bombshells had everything bombshells might need. And they were all quite happy, quite happy indeed. So dashing, dazzling D grade started their command And dashing, dazzling D grade all looked quite grand Beth the grandest of them all, shot from far and shot from wide And thank you to our ring ins Em and Bater who never missed a stride! Sensational, scintillating C grade continued their form And despite the fog, all players did perform Our best, Tahls and Lozzy looked up, down, left and right And despite the gloom and the dew they shined oh so bright B grade decided the wins were too small And put on 50 goals to rule over them all Jen and Tay said the trouble with us Is we’re aiming too low let’s make the win superfluous Amazing A grade thought they would follow suit And prove that last week’s win was no such fluke Although the start seemed a bit clumsy and a bit slow They all came together and Josie put on a show! And today, the great bombshells the marvellous team Will aim to continue the willing wonderful winning theme Against Hastings on this memorable day And think of those soldiers we never can repay Lest we forget.

Devon Meadows Panthers It was tough round coming against hastings with some old rivalery coming into play. D grade came out firing, running the ball smoothly down the court and feeding the goalers with precision. We had a lot of turnovers and managed to come out on top 53 to 12. Our shooting consistency was up this week and we hope to continue this through the season. BOC jess sandic >From the first whistle the C grade girls came out to play their game & as a result dominated in all areas of the court! The goalers held and rotated the ring nicely. The mids drove hard down the court onto the ring. The defenders kept the Hastings girls to less than 4 goals per quarter, producing ample opportunity for the attack resulting in 56 v 14 . BOC Jill B Hastings were definitely quality opposition and will give many strong B grade teams a challenge. Our game wasn’t great, we started slowly and were chasing the entire game. Training will help us sort out our team structure - we just need to make the effort to get there. Ezzy Mortgages Player of the day - Nat Fallon who supported our team and circle defenders so well. Faithy smashed her last quarter having you there!

Somerville Eagles Good Friday saw us take on Tyabb in what were 4 good games. The D girls found their form and their combinations. It was a great game to watch, the girls only losing by 1 goal in the end!The C girls had a solid win, everyone played beautifully and worked as a team. The girls responded to the areas that they covered in training and it was great to see them backing each other up. The B girls had 1 aim for Saturday and that was to carry over their good form from last week into round 2 and start strong against Tyabb. They definitely accomplished this and played strong, competitive netball. The A girls had a tough battle. It was a low scoring game, with neither team capitalising on the defenders turnovers.The girls came away with a great win in the last quarter, a win to be very proud of! This week we take on Pearcedale. We are looking to come away with 4 from 4 wins! GO EAGLES!!

Thanks to All Smiles for your continuous support! This week the girls took on Dromana... The u17s girls had another fantastic win this week against Dromana, it’s great to see them really working together as a team. The C Grade girls put up a good fight but unfortunately didn’t get there. Bridgette and Emma did an amazing job in defence. We also welcomes Charlee to our club who played a fantastic first game. The B Grade girls played incredibly well against Dromana. Competing against a tough team, and were able to keep the score level throughout the whole game. Dom played an awesome game who’s work in the goal ring was absolutely amazing. The defenders Jen and Meg also played an incredible game with great intercepts and rebounds. Thanks to all the girls who stepped up, it was a great game! The A grade girls had another tough week but all the girls played and outstanding game with a great performance from the defence. Unfortunately the score board didn’t reflect our efforts, every girl gave it their all and by the end of the game we were all proud of our performance. Hoping to improve next week when we take on Rye. Thanks to everyone who came and cheered on the girls. GO SHARKS!

Last week we celebrated Good Friday with a great day of netball against Somerville. D Grade won in the tightest of battles for the day securing a one goal victory thanks to Mayra’s flying intercept in the dying seconds of the game. Her & Megan continued their impressive form in defence shutting down Somie’s options in attack. C Grade need to work on improving their control of the ball in attack as they didn’t make the most of the chances they were given. Although the ball was coming back into defence quick & often, Lace put as much pressure on the Somie goalers as possible & out-rebounded her opponent. B Grade collapsed under the scoring pressure of Somerville’s goalers. Too many times the ball was turned over in attack which allowed Somie to extend their lead at each break. In a disappointing loss for the Yabbies, Megan was impressive, playing out of position yet still taking numerous intercepts. This week we see the return of Rhi and Sterchs which will hopefully provide some much needed experience & leadership out on court. A Grade suffered their first loss to Somie in over 4 years. It was a strong defensive game from both sides resulting in a low scoring affair. Izzy was by far best on for the Yabbies, upping her intensity from last week & providing a safe option all match. Laura worked hard to get in the right position in attack but our conversion rate cost us the 4 points. Today we travel to Dromana where we always expect the unexpected. NIP! NIP!

Picture this... an empty green court, wind rolling in from the north, state of the art court lights the only thing shining through the black of night, igniting a fire into the hearts of all our netballers...... then we realise that its gosh darn FREEZING out there and seriously consider going back home to a nice warm bed but NO! The Pink Panthers roared on and came out to meet Frankston head to head in our Thursday night clash at home. It was a solid effort from all teams tonight despite the frozen fingers and icy conditions which delighted supporters, coaches and teammates all round. Although none of the teams were able to come away with a win for this week, we sure took it to them and made Frankston fight for every possession. Well done to the defensive ends in all teams as their effort was relentless across all grades from start to finish. A very special mention for Kelsey Bratt & Emily Kate Jury who both played their 50th games- such a great effort girls, CONGRATULATIONS!

D Grade, After a round of not playing against Sorrento, D Grade are keen for another outing with their more regular players available and taking the court for the first time. Looking for higher intensity from the girls, it will be good to see this new team rise to the challenge against Tyabb. C Grade, Got their first win on the board against Sorrento, maintaining an unbeaten run against the Sharks C Grade team. Funnily enough they scored 11 goals in each quarter! They are looking forward to testing their side this week against Tyabb. The results so far have been interesting so we are keen to see what Tyabb have in store. B Grade, Took a strong lead in the third quarter against Sorrento to a seemingly nail biting finish at the end, but actually won by a few goals and did not relinquish the lead. Led by captain Maggie Alford, the 2016 club player’s player, the team’s focus and drive is strong in 2017 and we are looking for great things from our B Grade girls. A Grade, Were relieved to get their first win on the board last week but did it easily in the end by 40 goals. The team didn’t take Sorrento for granted, and came out with a strong team on Easter Saturday. While the Easter traffic meant that it was nearly a rushed line up, the game was steady and allowed the team to work together. Tyabb has been so strong against the Tigers for a number of years and are bound to give coach Bec Bacon a headache in planning the line up again Go Tigers!

Playing on Easter Sunday meant our squad was very depleted with other sporting commitments, work, holidays and illness but were so proud of how our players stepped up and played in the red and white with pride. The scoreboard certainly didn’t reflect the passion, commitment and support for our club. I could name many players who excelled this week but they know who they are and also how their netball will continue to improve with the opportunity to play up the grades! With continued commitment to training and game time, scoreboard success will follow! Another loss for both A and B on the scoreboard, but big wins in many other areas! Team spirit, team support, player development and respect for each other. After a round 1 win we knew C grade was going to be tough against crib point. We started strong and the first half was pretty even. Great pressure from the defence end in Kitty, Bella and Chloe turned the ball over. Crib point got the edge over us in the 2nd half but we fought back to within 2 goals. Unfortunately they came away with the win. A great start to the day with D grade coming away with the win. The girls played a great game with Mariah Mold and Heather Taylor leading the way through the mid court and having a strong game. A huge thanks to the u/17s for stepping up to help out, Bella Shannon and Millie Ross a sting duo in the goal ring. With a break next week we will be ready for another strong game round 3

Hastings Blues

We traveled to Devon Meadows for Easter weekend netball and the sun was shining. Hard work, commitment to training and a team that is prepared to stick to the team structures and work for each other resulted in B grade having there first win for the season. It’s a reward that the girls thoroughly earned. C and D grade continue to make small improvements every week however Devon Meadows are very experienced and proved far too strong. Anzac Day matches this Sunday against Frankston Bombers looks to be a fantastic day once again.

Crib Point Magpies

We travelled up the hill on Easter Sunday to take on Red Hill. The D Grade girls appeared to have eaten one too many Easter eggs before taking the court, unfortunately having a loss. They started off unsettled and rushed the play, resulting in turnovers. The gap was just too much to peg back. The defence end produced turnover after turnover though, Meg Romeril starred in WD. Grades C, B and A managed wins last week. C Grade were impressive across the whole court with seamless play from defence to attack. Goaler-turneddefender Amie Collison was a standout and combined well with Ayla, receiving the BOC award. The Rob Williams and Jess Cook goaling combination in this team also impressed, they may be small but golly they’re a dynamic pair! Newcomer Bree Phillips is also starting to find her feet, playing well. B Grade was the usual tough slog, but again they got the job done. Another game where the defenders dominated and none other than the vice-captain, GK - Brooke Farrelly received BOC honours. Brooke has improved her defensive game over the past couple of years and never lets her team down. Fiona White was relentless in C and ran her opponent ragged. Old timer Laura Herrington played a good game in GS (about time!) and received the BOC for A Grade. The defenders had a tough day on the court last week, but remained positive. Meg Hibbert in C was impressive despite not being 100% and Belinda Nerantzoulis’s feeds to the goalers were clean. #flapflapswoopswoop

Rye Demons

Rye vs Rosebud on Good Friday is always a popular affair. The crowd numbers were great with many supporters in every grade. The 17’s opened proceedings and played against a very strong Rosebud team. Our young girls were competitive in the first quarter, but struggled to score in the remaining terms. This team will improve each week, if they work together and believe in themselves. BOC – Miranda Stewart The C Grade game was close and hard fought, with Rosebud putting pressure on throughout the game. Our girls were very competitive but ended up losing by 6 goals. BOC- Jodie Stephens B Grade was another competitive game with all the girls working hard together. We didn’t get the win, but there were definitely many positives to bring out of the game. BOC- Shania Gana The A Grade was a close and physical game. Rye won the first two quarters but a tenacious Rosebud came back in the third quarter. Rye worked hard in the final quarter and were very happy to come away with a 5 goal win, in their first game of the season. BOC – Taylah Turner All in all it was a positive start to the season and we all enjoyed the day. Thanks to all the girls who came to the player auction. It was a fun night with some of the groups getting top dollar. Thank you also to the Kim Harris for organising the Easter Raffle and to all the girls who sold tickets.
