ANZAC Day Round Hot on the heels of an Easter weekend which saw big crowds across the Leagues, we have another extended round to commemorate ANZAC Day. In a stand alone fixture on ANZAC Day itself, Mt Eliza and Mornington will pay tribute to the fallen ANZACS with a full service before the game. Clubs across the weekend will also have variations of the theme to pay respects to those lost in wars over the generations. ANZAC Day is the anniversary of the landing of troops from Australia and New Zealand on the Gallipoli Peninsula in Turkey on April 25 1915. The ceremonies that take place on ANZAC Day remember the lives of those who died in military action. Football plays its part in ensuring the ANZAC tradition is maintained. Watch out for Narre Warren, Cranbourne and Rosebud in their commemorative ANZAC Day jumpers. Local Boys selected The hopes of several local boys aiming for an AFL career have been enhanced, with selection in the TAC Vic Country U18 squad. The following boys (with their junior clubs in brackets) have been selected in the preliminary squad. Hunter Clark (Mornington), Oscar Clavarino (Berwick), Aaron Darling (Crib Point), Luke Davies-Uniacke (Rye), Tom De Koning (Mornington), Sam Fletcher (Red Hill),

Bailey Morrish (Beaconsfield), Angus Patterson (Mornington), Mitchell Riordan (Beaconsfield), Bailey Schmidt (Seaford), Bailey Williams (Crib Point) and Lachlan Young (Mt Eliza) Good luck to all the boys as they press for a spot in the final squad. The NAB U18 Championships commence on June 11. Frankston Dolphins Mornington Peninsula Clubs received a financial boost this week with the announcement that a Frankston Dolphins sponsor would contribute $2,000 to each MPNFL Club, in return for Highgrove Bathrooms signage at their ground. Gary Buckenara (Manager) and the Dolphins Committee are not only working hard to get a VFL licence returned to Frankston, but also to engage more with community football in the area. AFL Vic Country WorkSafe Game of the Month returns! A number of community football clubs in regional Victoria will welcome the return of the WorkSafe Game of the Month in season 2017. This year is set to be bigger and better than ever, with eight exciting WorkSafe Games of the Month planned in leagues across the state with our first event kicking off in the South West Football Netball League on April 30. Now in its 15th year, the WorkSafe Game of the Month centres around traditional grudge matches between country football and netball club rivals and attract large crowds of fervent supporters.

Football Preview PYTHONS CHASE THIRD WIN PINES has a wonderful opportunity to make it three wins on the spin when it meets EDI-ASP (1-1) at Regents Park. The Pythons scored a fighting win over Bonbeach firstup and then cleaned up Langwarrin last week as their running game clicked into gear, led by Lachlan Marshall, Reece Stewart and Luke Potts. With Ben Thomas also in good form, and Tim Bongetti and Aaron Edwards looking the goods up forward, the Pythons will take some stopping. Edi-Asp was kept goalless in the second and third quarters in its loss to Bonbeach last week and coach Graeme Yeats will demand a much better effort this week. Key defender Mark Mullins suffered a heavy knock late in last week’s game and is under a cloud, but prime movers Bradley Tagg and Michael Bussey could come back into the side today. Brent Bowden and Tim Mannix have been in good form for the Eagles. LANGWARRIN is yet to crack it for a win and things don’t get any easier when it hosts an impressive SEAFORD. After losing narrowly to Karingal in Round 1, Langy were pretty ordinary against Pines last week, only managing two goals for the entire game. The Kangaroos are a young and developing side and their time will come. But their fans will need to be patient. In the meantime, the likes of Blake Harkness, Sean Herdman, Shane Paterson and Nick Tuddenham will keep playing good footy and inspiring their teammates. Seaford had 37 scoring shots last week as it thumped Chelsea. The Tigers ran rampant as former Casey Scorpions captain Kyle Matthews gave a dominating performance. Tom Shaw slotted four goals to head up a strong Tigers forward line, while Nick Shannon, Rourke Fischer, Josh Stokes and the ever-reliable Kane Taylor impressed. Seaford finished just outside the finals last season but looks capable of pushing further this year. After opening its winning account in style last week, BONBEACH hosts winless CHELSEA in a game the Sharks are expected to win. Ex-Sydney and St Kilda forward Trent Dennis-Lane made his presence felt with nine shots for goal (he slotted four) for Bonny last week, while ruckman Dylan Jones has started the season superbly. Sharks skipper Jackson Casey had over 30 possessions last week and looks in for a big season. Bonbeach’s defence, led by Owen Hulett and Gary Carpenter, has been rock solid and will hold the Sharks in good stead this year. Hulett kept Pines star Aaron Edwards to one goal in Round 1 and then kept Edi-Asp forward Mick Meehan goalless last week.

Chelsea has started with two stinging losses - to EdiAsp by 53 points and then to Seaford by 82 points – and it’s hard to see them improving enough to beat Bonny today. The Seagulls have only won one of eight quarters so far, and are yet to get their running game going. The positives have been the bright form of former North Albury key defender Simon Mitchelhill and the talented Jack Francis. KARINGAL, with a win and a loss in the first two rounds, looks to have improved this season but the Bulls face a monumental task of upsetting the champs FRANKSTON YCW in their annual Anzac clash at Frankston Park on Sunday. While the Bulls are on the up, they still appear to have plenty of ground to make up on the Stonecats who have begun 2017 with two solid wins. A slow start cost the Bulls last week – they trailed Mornington by 30 points at the first break and ended up losing by 24 points. There was plenty to like about the Bulls’ effort, though, especially young gun Jake Kelly who booted four goals while Rhys Pierce chipped in with two, and Duncan Proud, Steve Mihevc and Luke Van Raay played good footy. Karingal coach Andrew Sharp will relish the chance to test his young side against YCW. Frankston YCW has responded after being challenged in both of its games so far. The Stonecats have been more solid than spectacular so far – apart from an eye-popping nine-goal quarter against Mornington in Round 1. In promising signs, Jack Mazurek, Byron Barry, Luke Paynter, Matt La Fontaine and Ryley Hodson have quickly found top form. MT ELIZA and MORNINGTON clash in their annual Anzac Day meeting on Tuesday, and it should be a beauty. For the past three years, one of the teams from this game has gone on to play in the grand final. Mt Eliza contested last years flag decider while Mornington did so in 2014 and 15. Mt Eliza has won the past three Anzac Day games. They’ve been tight tussles, though, befitting of one of the great rivalries in Peninsula footy. Expect more of the same today as the Redlegs, after lowering their colours to Frankston YCW in last week’s grand final rematch, are sure to hit the ground hungry to go to 2-1. Brenton Lambert, Sam Gill, Jay Neratzoglou and Shane Tennant have been in good form, while young Finlay Bayne showed he’s a young star with a polished debut last week. Mornington recruits Pete McGettigan and Xavier BarryMurphy have made an impact early as the Bulldogs have started the season with plenty of purpose. Brad Harvey, Joel Miller, Warwick Miller, Emilio Bitters and Mick Gay also have impressed.

Impressive last round winners SEAFORD goes to LANGWARRIN with a pep in its step. The Tigers capped off a sharp display last week with a seven-goal last quarter, with Joey Hallal (6 goals), Mitch Finn, Brendan Dawes and Cam Scott starring. EDI-ASP romped home last week with Justin Chant in sparkling form and today the Eagles face PINES, who were equally impressive in winning last week. It should be a cracker. KARINGAL and FRANKSTON YCW are both coming off stinging losses when they face off. BONBEACH managed only one goal last week and will find it tough against CHELSEA. MT ELIZA had 27 scoring shots as it dispatched Frankston YCW last week and the undefeated Redlegs already have opened up a one-game buffer on top of the ladder. Recruit Shaun Knott has quickly hit his straps, along with Sam Wettenhall and Jamieson Thorne. Mt Eliza takes on last-start winners MORNINGTON on Anzac Day, and the Bulldogs will look to the in-form Jack Wells, Michael Macgowan and Nick Martin to provide drive.

LANGY IN HOT FORM IN THE UNDER 19s... LANGWARRIN fired off 25 goals last week in a percentageboosting win but can expect a tougher battle against a capable SEAFORD, also coming off a strong win. Exciting Kangaroo Nathan Allen slotted 7 goals last week and is one to watch, along with Jacob Brooker, who has made an excellent return from a knee injury. EDI-ASP had 39 scoring shots and unleashed a 10-goal third quarter last week as it made it two-from-two, with Zach Barrett, Vince Kovacic and Zach Fatouris in great form. The Eagles host PINES. BONBEACH was thrashed last week but can bounce back against CHELSEA. Last start winners KARINGAL and FRANKSTON YCW lock horns in a Sunday classic. The Bulls will look to in-form trio Ollie Murray, Tom Baker and Jonah Cassera to show the way, while exciting Stonecats forward Lachlan Street, after successive bags of seven goals, will be the key. MT ELIZA will look to get back on the winners list and hand MORNINGTON a third straight defeat.

The Easter weekend started on a positive note with a senior victory over Edi Asp on Good Friday. Our first senior win in the traditional Good Friday fixture. The boys matched toughness with polish and controlled most of the match against our more fancied rivals. Classy recruit Trent DL slotting 4 goals all at key moments a highlight. A great game from both Captain and Vice Jacko & Owey as well. Well done to Edi Asp on putting on an organised day. Modest results for us overall we look forward to taking on Chelsea this week. Saturdays match marks the start of a traditional Anzac round clash with both teams hoping to secure the Longbeach RSL shield. Good luck to all teams competing this ANZAC weekend. Go Sharks!

Traveled down to Seaford last week and unfortunately left empty handed. The 19’s put in a solid effort playing with 17 all day v’s 22. the lad’s never stopped trying and in the end just ran out of puff. Best were Hermans, Long , Mueller and King’y who kicked 3 and just ran all day. In the 2’s again played quite well in patches but need a 4 quarter effort to get over the line. Big Stuey battled hard all day and got good support from Gard’s Seppa and Brodie Leitch who is improving every week. Get behind Stevie and Nana boy’s and I’m sure there is a win just around the corner. In the main game again we showed some good signs with new recruit Simon Mitchelhill again very good down back and got good support from Jack Francis Daly Shannon and Trewy, also Matt Silva and Todd Gardiner tried hard. In the end Seaford just had to many running options and simply up the ground we need to work harder. Anzac game next week v’s Bonbeach so let’s show some spirit lad’s . No doubt a tuff start for 2017 but we all need to rally and stick together. Please don’t forget the Dawn Service on Tuesday at Chelsea RSL. See you at the Gullery !!

A great start to the day with the Under 19’s enjoying a big win. Best players on the day were Z. Barrett, V. Kovacic, Z. Fatouros, H. Dale, C. Neale, Z. O’’Neill. The reserves continued their great start to the season with another hard fought win and are now sitting 2nd on the ladder. Best players included J. Chant, T. Yeowart, M. Greenwood, D. McCarthy, R. Morris. The huge crowd was looking forward to the senior clash with both teams raring to go.We started well and the game was in our grasp. Unfortunately the opposition took it right up to us and we were outplayed after quarter time. The boys tried to peg it back but couldn’t quite get there. Better players on the day were B. Bowden, C. Club Notes Great day at the Pit last week. With 2/3 in the football. Under 19s showed little glimpses against a bigger, stronger outfit. Best players were Liam “SOS” Cox, big Karel, and Khallum “Beavis”White. Reserves showed good form with a 7 goal win with a few old heads back. Better players were Taylor Meyer, Gana brothers and well lead by Jake Berry. In the main game , the boys showed there class after half time with Lachie Marshall, Potts, Stewart, Scanlon and Ben Thomas impressing on and off the field. This week we are playing host to Seaford , and conducting our Presidents luncheon. We hope all that attend have a good time and naturally that we have 3 wins. Last week saw us take on Pines and we came away with a win in the Under 19’s . A strong, convincing win with good play over the whole 4 quarters , it was good to see Rhys Whiteside play well , ably supported by N. Allen, S. Read, J. Brooker, B. Smith, and T. Branch. Our Reserves went down but tried hard all day against strong Pines opposition. Good players for Langy included J. Henderson, J. Buxton, N. Palmer, D. Riley, A. Tate, A. Marks. Our seniors generally match up well against Pines no matter where the teams are on the ladder. Under constant attack our defense battled hard, however we just couldnt get a decent score on the board. Our round the ground play was competitive.All these players had difficult assignments on the day and battled their hearts out B. Harkness, S. Herdman, S. Paterson, N. Tuddenham, B. Peach, M. Cuthbert. Today is Tanners 200th game for the club. A great supporter , player and assistant coach of the club. Let’s do it for Tanners and get 3 wins! We have a busy social calender with The Bizzare Gazzard Hypnotist show coming up on the 29th April. $25.00 per ticket it should be a great night. A quality day for our foot depart on Easter Saturday v Gulls. 19s win was no easy task as the scoreline may’ve suggest as there was a real intense battle on hand for majority of the contest. Great to see Benny Searle kicking off the season with another quality 4qtr effort and the little magic man Riley Maggio snagging a few goals in his return to 19s football. A belated congratulations to the big fella, Bailey Schmidt who debuted for the Stingrays last week. It will be no surprise to see him making a few more appearances for the Rays. Great to see our new magoos coach, Mark “Billy” Dessent get to sing the club song for the first time. Even better to see the players who have made the transition from 19s into SNR footballers and having an immediate impact, Lachie Mullins, Harls Cook, Taka Tohiariki & Bryce Lloyd. It’s great to see our new recruits also having an immediate impact in the Senior ranks. Up to 7 of them hit the scoreboard on the weekend in a powerful display. “We’re Strong and we’re Bold” was evident through majority of the day and we hope to see more footy like it. A special mention to our Netball Department to begin the season in such a positive manner. Why results on the scoreboard haven’t started in the fashion they would like, the fact we lost 20 of our players in the off season haven’t crippled their spirit. A mighty effort from the Netball department President and Coaching staff has seen our side field 17new players across the grades. A job well done

Once again the Berenger-Watts trophy is up for grabs as we are hosted by Karingal for the Annual Anzac clash this year at Frankston Park. It’s a time for reflection as we honour those who defended our Country both overseas and at home. We will remember them - Lest We Forget !! Last week the Unders started the day off brilliantly bouncing out of the gates and running away for a 53 point win. Lachie was again to the fore kicking 7 large and giving some away. Cal Gregory, Gus Wright and Liam Greeny had great games as well. The Magoos had a game they’d rather forget after a solid touch up by a polished Mounties outfit who had the game iced by half time. Jack Matthews, SOD and Captain Cowled battled hard. The Ones faced Mt Eliza in the Grannie Replay. They took a while to find their feet and, despite a wasteful second stanza held a 2 goal advantage at the long break. Despite the Mounties persistence, this improved to a 5 goal margin at the final hooter. Bundy, Bysa and Ryley were pepper and salt and Matty Laff relished the open spaces and Jack M was consistent. We have lost Lachie for a bit with a hamstring tear. The Netballers were only successful in B Grade – check their notes later in this journal. See you on Thursday nights for Hatchy’s raffles and the Members Draw (you have to be there to win). Enjoy food and drink. May 7 is our trip to Sandown Dogs. Today we pay our respects to the men and women who bravely served our country. Welcome to the Mornington FNC today for what shapes as a big day of local footy. In front of an excellent crowd on Good Friday v YCW only the Reserves collected the chocolates. The U/19’s were never really in the contest after YCW kicked 4 goals to nil in the first qtr & we trailed by 6 goals at the main change. Another 4 goal qtr saw the Redlegs down by 8 at 3 qtr time. We won the last term by a point but went down by 53 in a disappointing showing. Better players were Max Rea, Thiele, Jacko, Smally, Hilly & Cameron. The Reserves started with a 3 goal to nil 1st qtr and continued on to lead by 7 goals at 1/2 time. A 7 goal to 1 2nd half saw an easy 82 point win. Knotty & Jem booted 3 each to be in the best & Wetters, Stricko & Pop Up kicked 2. Other best players were Skinny, Trent & Big Sexy. The Seniors led narrowly in a defensive 1st qtr, before YCW took the lead at 1/2 time by 2 goals & led by the same margin at 3/4 time. They broke away in the last, kicking the only 3 goals to win by 30. Congrats to Fin Bayne who kicked 2 in his Senior debut & was named in the best. We remember and thank all those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom and country on this Anzac Day. We are privileged to play on this day-Lest we forget....... Last week looking for our first win we travelled to Frankston Park to take on the Bulls. The Seniors started off well with most of the play in the 1st quarter, 12 scoring shots to 2. We lost our way in the next 2 quarters and didn’t play our best but came out firing in the last quarter firing off with 4 goals in the 1st 10mins to come home with the win. Xavier Barry-Murphy was terrific again over four quarters and Brad Harvey made a solid return to the senior ranks. In the Ressies the boys were up and about early kicking the first couple of goals and playing well. Second quarter started and the boys kept up the intensity but for some wayward kicking should of been further in front. With the second half on the way the boys were pushing hard and continued to put pressure on Karingal. The last quarter was more of the same with a good result for the boys and a good win. In the Unders they started slow and Karingal were dominating. A better effort in the second half gave our boys some well earnt credibility. Our list of available players strengthens again this week and we are looking forward to taking on a rebounding Mt Eliza side. MRC Foundation Chairman, Patricia Faulkner AO said, “the MRC Foundation is pleased to be supporting the establishment of this Club Support – Community Program focusing on the wellbeing and welfare of an at-risk demographic in the local community of several of MRC’s operations including Mornington Racing Club, Steeples, The Cove and The Grand.” The outcomes of the Club Support – Community Program in 2017 are: · 11 MPFNL Clubs to undertake the SALT ‘Healthy Club’ Program · Introduce 22 MPFNL Clubs to the ‘ClubCare Access’ SCA Program

AFL South East and MRC (Melbourne Racing Club) Foundation have joined forces to develop the “Club Support – Community Program”, which is designed to provide AFLSE and MPFNL (Mornington Peninsula Nepean Football League) Clubs with the training, development and support in areas of concern within the community regularly faced by the Clubs such as youth suicide, domestic violence, drug and alcohol abuse, mental health and other social and behavioural issues.

There is an online application process on the AFLSE website. Further communication will occur directly with clubs to participate.

Partnering with program providers SALT (Sport and Life Training) and SCA (Sports Chaplaincy Australia) the specific aim of “Club Support – Community Program” is to develop a leadership and welfare culture within AFLSE and MPFNL Clubs to help drive behavioural change and provide support in a sustainable and ongoing manner. SALT will provide specific training in those areas of concern identified by clubs. SCA, through the ClubCare Access program, will respond to critical incidents occurring in clubs, and offer the opportunity to all clubs to have a dedicated sports chaplain. AFLSE Region General Manager, John Anderson said, “This is a most significant initiative introduced for the benefit of the League and its Clubs”. “Our Clubs face regular challenges that require great sensitivity and expertise regarding the social and personal welfare of their members. It is incumbent upon all Clubs to provide a safe and positive environment for all their players and volunteers, while the SALT Program will concentrate on developing this culture and environment and the Chaplaincy Program will provide the one on one support for individuals who experience personal hardship.”

An identity that would be recognised and respected the world over. “What happened to the open landing to provide an ambush on very easy terms?” Instead confronted by towering cliffs, dead-end gullies and dense low scrub these men found the Turk reinforcements rushing up in strength as if prepared. Brothers, sons, husbands, fathers and mates fell all around as the hills became wild and bloody. Sisters, daughters, wives, mothers and friends did all they could to tend for the wounded. Then they dug. Trenches lined the edges of the battlefield. And for the next 8 months the ANZACs stood firm. It was there that the Australian identity was born. Sacrifice, doggedness, mateship and courage in the face of almost certain death. It’s not about the size of the dog but the size of the bark in the dog. And the size of that bark gave a young nation a story and a spirit to be proud of. Many died young. Some would say as just a boy or a girl. But no man or woman who went to war, who saw the

horrors of the world, and tried to fight them could ever be considered just a mere boy or a simple girl. Instead they were folk whose spirit continues to live on in the blood of every Australian. On ANZAC day we celebrate the spirit of those who fought for our place in the world on the Gallipoli Peninsula. We also celebrate the survival of that spirit. We step back and appreciate and thank those who continue to stand up and fight. Those who protect us and shield us for the dangers of the growing world. Those would embody the spirit of the ANZACs. For all that they do for us the very least we can do I step back every once in a while and remember them. We will remember them. Netball Preview Karingal V Frankston YCW Karingal have had an excellent start to season 2017 with two big wins. Last Thursday night they defeated an up and coming Mornington at Jubilee Park by 20 goals. The Stonekittens went down in a nail biter to Mt Eliza by one goal and will be hoping to turn that around on Sunday against the Bulls at McClelland College.

Mt Eliza V Mornington This match will certainly be one to watch! Mornington last week looked promising against last years grand finalists Karingal while Mt Eliza took a one point victory over YCW. Mt Eliza are certainly looking far more consistent already this season while Mornington have the talent to take them on.

Bonbeach V Chelsea Bonbeach put out a decent performance last week against Edi Asp and this week get a well earned rest. The Sharks have done a lot of work in the off season and look to be far more competitive this year. Edi Asp V Pines The reigning premiers have had a perfect start to this season, last week disposing of the Sharks by 20 goals. Pines have come close both weeks and will be looking to bring a perfect performance this week to overcome the slick looking Eagles. Langwarrin V Seaford Langwarrin registered their first win for 2017 last weekend taking a thrilling 1 point victory over Pines. The Tigers are coming into this match fresh after a weekend off with the bye. Played at Lloyd Park this match will definitely go down to the wire, can the Roos capitalise on a home court advantage?

Seaford Tigers

This weeks games were very fitting to the Easter story. On a cold dark Thursday night our C grade girls kicked it off in what can only be described as the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. The girls tried to keep pace with the strength of their opposition but seemed to get ‘out muscled’ off the ball in the blood bath battle. Hats off to the girls for keeping their cool and maintaining smart & disciplined netball. B grade was the next fallen disciple. Our girls had a slow start to the match letting the Gulls get an early jump, however in the premiership quarter the girls came out with all guns blazing to claw back the margin and be up by 2. The girls were pumped, the coach was pumped, the crowd was pumped but unfortunately the full time difference was just 1 measly goal scored in the final seconds of the match. The improvement from round 1 to 2 was phenomenal and has shown great promise that we are heading in the right direction with plenty more improvement left in the tank! And finally just when we thought all hope of getting a win on the board was lost, our D grade girls resurrected, rising from the dead to give us something to celebrate. Getting their first win on the board the girls were jumping for joy like their water was turned into wine. Well done girls! Lets hope for eternal wins for the rest of the 2017 season. Go tiges!

Mornington Bulldogs

Round 2 saw us play on a Thursday Night at Jubliee Park against a strong Karingal Bulls teams in all grades. A Grade expected a tough encounter against Karingal and that is exactly what we got. The A Grade girls fought valiantly throughout the match but in the end were no match for the Bulls. B Grade girls got off to a flying start but the Bulls made several changes that worked in their favour & Bulldogs were unable to match-up with the new and more experienced line-up for the Bulls and lost the following 3 terms to eventually lose the match. C Grade was not a pretty game to watch, we seemed to play more as individuals and not as the team we played as, in round 1. Unfortunately we couldn’t capitalise on the turnovers our defenders were getting and went down 13. Looking to rebound back this week. In D Grade it started to come together, with the girls being rewarded for the pressure each and every one of them were putting on their opponents. We played an awesome 3 quarters then started to tire in the last but came home with our first win of the season. The whole team should be super proud, it was a very exciting and skillful game to watch A big thanks to our new trainer Mel, who was kept busy with a couple injuries on the night, we hope Mon & Lara have speedy recoveries & are back on the court soon! Bonbeach Sharks

An amazing effort by Chelsea D grade this week! After last week’s tough loss they came out fighting and did everything they were asked. Though we didn’t come away with the win we had a positive attitude and fought it out right to the end. Shout out to Kate and Breanna for amazing intercepts down the court, and Amy and Sammi for their shooting. The girls should be super proud of their efforts. Bring on round 3! C grade started strong and our defensive pressure broke Seaford’s first centre. Seaford fired back, taking control and leading at the first break by 4. Casey, Char and Perri maintained composure through the middle, creating a turnaround that saw Chelsea lead by 1 at half time. Kate and Megan then fought hard in defence, creating turnovers and winning rebounds, and with Kiah’s leadership and sneaky intercepts we were very happy to achieve our first win 28-35. B grade saw some changes this week with key players out. Katja, Em and Lisa in attack worked the ring with patience and skill against relentless Seaford defence. At the first break Chelsea led by 1. Ally and Katie then worked the defensive end, Ally dominating rebounds. An always competitive Seaford fought back and matched our defensive turnovers, their goal keeper applying the pressure. At three quarter time we trailed 23-25. Final changes were made and our young gun Katja and veteran Lisa dominated the final quarter bringing the ball down the court beautifully. Chelsea fought back to take the win by 1!

Pines Pythonettes Last week saw our first home game, hosting Langwarrin at our temporary court at Monterey Secondary College. D Grade and C Grade were determined to show what they had been working on at training into a game format. However were both outclassed by strong Langy teams who were relentless on attack and defence. Although the girls didn’t get the results they were after, they know the areas of their game that need work in order to improve this season. B grade continued to shine and are now sitting two from two in a convincing win. Our attacking circle were extremely dominant with Lily hardly missing a goal and strongly supported by Taschelle, making it difficult for Langwarrin to keep up. A grade had another Blockbuster game with the intensity extremely high from start to finish. The game again went down to the wire with a bit of deja vu and ultimately going down to Langwarrin by one goal. The girls are determined to change this recurring pattern and work hard into round 3 and beyond. This week will see us take on Edithvale Aspendale. All teams are expecting extremely tough matches however know their goals and what they need to do to achieve the win. Good Luck Ladies!!

Edi Asp have always been a tough competitor and last week was no different, wet and cold conditions were not ideal but all four of our teams put up a strong fight and although we lost, our scores showed how much we have improved! Can’t wait to meet up again later in the season! This week is a home game against Chelsea and we’re hoping to come away with 3 wins! Battsy and Eddo out.

Karingal Bullettes This week our A grade was severely depleted. We welcomed back our co captain Jayde Aron who was carrying a niggling injury but still managed to play out the 4 quarters. Renee also a standout in the defensive end this week pulling in many intercepts. BOC was Birgitta in goals assisted by Emily. We had a solid start to the game which we built on every quarter to extend the lead. Although our A grade was depleted it was great to see positive attitudes out there. In B grade the level of netball was still extremely high. The first ten minutes

Netball Notes Mornington jumped us with a 7-0 lead. We were very untidy and we fumbled balls and turned the ball over constantly. It was like a flick of the light switch came 10 minutes in and we managed to fight our way to be only one goal down at the first change. As the game progressed everyone started to step up and play the netball that I know they can. This was lead by captain Emily who was best on court! Taylah and Kiah dominated thru the centre for C grade for the whole game. Whilst Alison coming up from D Grade to fill in was a huge asset picking up balls and intercepting all over the court. Our goalers alternated with Dani and Steph welcoming in Isabelle. Sara and Mel owned the goal ring defending like stars, applying the pressure! In D we started well with our defenders Bec and Gabby keeping them at bay. It was a tight game but we were just missing too many key players due to Easter - we will bounce back next week when we take on YC #GOBULLS!

Frankston YCW StoneKittens

Last week YCW came up against the always competitive, Mt Eliza team. The ‘A’ grade girls allowed Mt Eliza to get the lead in the first quarter and made it hard for ourselves, having to fight back. We managed to get up on the last quarter with a couple of critical turnovers to drop the game by just one goal. BOG goes to Courtney for her work in defensive end. The B grade girls got off to the start we wanted breaking the Mounties centre and scoring the first two goals. A comfortable lead that continued to grow, enabled us to make a few changes at each break working through various combos. Credit to each and every player who managed to settle relatively well into each change. BOG goes to Ash Whitnell who had a great game in Goal Attack. The C grade game was a funny old one, with the girls working so hard to get the ball and then coughing it up my making silly decisions, especially in the first quarter. Mt Eliza pressure all over the court was superior to ours hence why they came away with a two goal win. We had some wonderful passages of play with standout efforts from everyone at different times. BOG goes to Kirsty for being an absolutely stalwart in the back line. D grade also had a well fought out game with lots of rotations and combinations - again credit to the girls for giving their all in any position. Some really good passages of play for 2 and 1/2 quarters - the rest we can work on! BOG goes to Nikki for her drive down the court and clearing. Great job girls!

C GRADE showed that they are a force to be reckoned with & were competitive for the entire match. Steph C showed composure in the mid court while Karen was great in the attacking end. Mounties just took the win 31-28. It was a tough day for B grade taking on the 2016 premiers who have strengthened their team even more since last year. YCW’s slick skills in the wet were too much for our girls to handle this week, although they put up a good fight there was plenty to learn from the game, Di & Jamie were solid in defence however we walked away behind on the scoreboard when the whistle blew 24-42. A GRADE put on a fantastic performance in the slippery conditions & really showed what a team effort looks like. Jess & Madelina were unstoppable in defence while Bridget & Emily teamed beautifully in goals. The girls showed that mental strength plays a huge role when composure is required in a nail bitter, Mounties were ahead at the end of the day to take the 4 points 38-37. Next week we take on Mornington on Anzac Day, we will be aiming for 4 good wins.
