Bendigo Community Bank MPNFL Update Round 4 2017 Welcome to Round 4 of the 2017 season. We are now starting to get into the thick of the season, three rounds down and the ladders are now taking shape. The MPNFL would like to congratulate Michael Burke from Karingal, who last week played his 300th firsts game. Along with a full list of accolades that goes in that 300-game career, Michael is now an MPNFL Life Member and will be presented with his medal at the end of year presentation night. Once again well done Michael on a wonderful career so far and we hope to see you continue to bleed red and white on the field for a few more years yet. There is now only 2 more weeks until the ultimate battle between ourselves and the Geelong FNL to claim the number one title in league rankings through the state. The AFL Victoria Community Championships will certainly be highlighted this year having the 1v2 game at the MCG. Please stay tuned to our websites and social media for further details on the match. If you would like to watch the AFL Vic CC squad train at Frankston Park (6 pm-7:30 pm) see the following dates; Wednesday 3rd May, Tuesday 9th May & Thursday 11th May. Bendigo Community Bank Competition Review

As senior officials from all Clubs are aware, I have been conducting interviews with each of the Clubs in the AFL Southeast region over the past 6 weeks or so. The exercise has been a good opportunity to meet several Presidents and committee representatives for the first time. More relevantly it was also an opportunity to get Club’s views on the best structure for the senior football competition in 2018 and beyond. I have been very appreciative of the manner in which the meetings have been conducted, and I thank all those involved for their input. It’s timely to provide a reminder of the process from here. All the feedback received from Clubs will be provided to the Review Panel appointed by the Commission. It is hoped by the end of May a Position Paper will be distributed to the industry. Clubs will then have a month to formally respond to the Paper. The Review Panel will then make formal recommendations, taking all feedback into account, to the Commission for approval. The Commission is the ultimate decision maker and based on the current timetable the recommendations are due to be issued by the end of July.

It was pleasing to see 21 of the 22 MPNFL Clubs represented at a function at the Mornington Isuzu Ute Stadium (Frankston Park) last Friday night to receive their cheque from Highgrove Bathrooms. The Clubs are most appreciative of the gesture and as such will be displaying signage at each of the venues This had been arranged through the Frankston Dolphins. One of the criteria in the Dolphins bid to regain a VFL License is to be more engaged with the local football community. While it is easy to say the words, the Dolphins have gone out of their way to engage with AFL Southeast and this sponsorship has a direct benefit to the Clubs in particular. In my view it is important for the young players in our competitions to have pathways through to TAC Cup, the VFL and the AFL. Having a VFL presence in our region is important and we support the Frankston Dolphins in their quest. John Anderson RGM AFL South East

There has been speculation that certain outcomes have been determined already. I can assure you that is not the case and any comments from Clubs will be there own view, not the view of the Review Panel. Conversations between myself and Club Presidents as part of the Review are confidential and will not be made public. AFL Victoria – Community Championship Matches. The Worksafe AFL Victoria Community Championships 1v2 between the MPNFL and the Geelong FNL is confirmed to commence at 3.30pm on May 13 at the MCG. This will be prior to the Essendon v Geelong AFL Fixture. The MPNFL list will be trimmed down this week. Coach John Hynes will have a tough job finalising his best side. This is a fantastic opportunity for not only players, but for umpires, coaches and volunteers to participate on the game’s biggest stage. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved in making this match a reality, including the competition sponsor WorkSafe, AFL, Essendon and Geelong Football Clubs for their support. The fixture between SEFNL and the Hamden League has had a change of venue to the sudden unavailability of the Holden Centre (Collingwood FC made that decision). The match will now be played at Casey Fields on May 13 starting at 1pm.

Bendigo Community Bank Supporting the lifeblood of regional communities WorkSafe is excited to once again partner with AFL Country Victoria for 2017. It’s an ongoing privilege to be a part of country football and netball because these sports play such an important role in every regional community. They bring together families, friends, neighbours and mates to yell, cheer and compete in friendly – and sometimes not so friendly competition. It is an important partnership for WorkSafe because it gives us the opportunity to spread the message about workplace safety to an incredible mix of people from all walks of life. The people you see here today are players, spectators, umpires, club officials and volunteers. But they are also farmers, tradesmen, businesspeople, shop assistants and workers from a hundred different industries who deserve to get home safe at the end of the day.

We ask all regional Victorians to stop and think about what is ultimately important to them. What can they do to prevent the death or injury of a loved one at work? While the number of workplace injuries in country Victoria continues to decline, there’s always more that can be done. Through our involvement in country football and netball, we will continue to spread the message that no one should be injured at work. At our Games of The Month, we invite some of the biggest names in football and netball to come along to meet the locals, share their sporting stories and enjoy the big-day atmosphere. Our Club Safety Fund, which offers financial support to clubs who have initiatives to make their players and supporters safer, will again be available this year. But workplace safety is not just an issue for WorkSafe. Every employer and employee must take responsibility for keeping safe at work. And every family member who says goodbye to their mum or dad, their son or daughter, or their brother or sister as they leave for work each morning, can do their part by reminding them of the need to take care.

Football Preview Defining game for Hillmen By Toe Punt Red Hill and Frankston Bombers shapes as the match of the round in MPNFL Nepean Division today. Whilst there will be some intrigue in the Hastings v Dromana and Rosebud v Somerville clashes, I think most interest will be in the match up on the hill. Red Hill won its first game since 1985 against Rosebud at Olympic Park last week and looked super impressive in doing so. However, as we know in this competition, you are only as good as your last win and the Hillmen need to front-up again today and get the job done. The home side has its nose in front before the bounce. Red Hill comes-off a seven day break and Frankston off a six day break after playing Hastings last Sunday. Frankston also played in heavier conditions on Sunday. Regardless, the Hillmen need to bring the same level of intensity and composure to the contest today. Red Hill was super organised against Rosebud and led by as much as 38-points early in the last quarter. The Hillmen’s run and spread has always been a feature of their play, however, they have added some real class to their group which provides greater flexibility and potency. Marcus and Peter Dal Lago are wonderful players and have been for a long time. It is great to see them so settled in defence, rather than being used elsewhere to ‘pinch hit’ or fill holes. Chris Irving through the middle is a bull – he’s a class above and I can’t tell you how good it is to see him back playing. He is getting better with every possession. Ben Hughes is a wonderful strong target in attack. He leads and marks well and he has great second efforts. Dylan Hoare and Sean Holmes are X-Factors. Both have incredible talent and mercurial tendencies that genuinely should worry oppositions. They have the best young defender in the game right now in Jonah Siverson, Michael Mock is a coaches’ dream and Mitch Wallace is a dour, tough, defender. There’s a lot to like about the Hillmen but it does mean little if they can’t challenge the Bombers on their home turf, coming off a strong performance and with an extra day’s break. The Bombers also go into the game without Beau Muston, while Alex Harnett appeared to hurt his knee late last week and Brett Sutton is out for a while yet with a thumb injury. The Bombers poleaxed Hastings by more than 10 goals and at times made the opposition look silly.

Jay Reynolds was surprisingly brought straight back into the team after suffering from a calf injury but played his role kicking three goals while Zach Longham looked dangerous with four goals. Jason Kingsbury is a wonderful player and he was rewarded for his tireless work rate with three goals. Jarryd Amalfi, Ryan Marks-Logan and Corey Buchan control a very strong backline. The Bombers are frighteningly good through the middle and always look dangerous when the ball goes inside their attack. The question mark over Red Hill is quality of depth in the middle and a young ruckman against a more experienced Ryan Kitchen. The question mark over Frankston is a lack of leg speed in the back half. The Hillmen can really make a serious statement today if they can get the job done; however, it’s hard to go against the Bombers. HASTINGS simply has to bounce back against DROMANA. The Blues really did look like they were leg weary last week against Frankston and coming-off a six day break against a fast-paced Dromana is a concern. Hastings’ form leading up to the Frankston game had not been good, despite winning its first three games. It had played one or two quarters of good footy to get the job done.

Football Preview The Blues don’t appear to be playing with the same level of intensity or spirit that carried them through to the flag. Do they still have a fire burning to succeed? Luke Clark and Ricky Ferraro were missing last week – they will make a difference when they return. Dromana will be looking to get the ball in the open and use their pace to try and expose the opposition. It should have gained a lot of confidence from last week’s 112-point hiding of Tyabb. The Tigers played four solid quarters of footy and other than some moments in the third term, defended very well - it was a far cry from previous matches. We think Dromana is capable; however, we need some real proof before we start to get excited. They too can make a statement today against the Blues. ROSEBUD and SOMERVILLE should be a good footy match too. Jack Jarman, Daniel Wilson, Jake Corrin and Sean Downie were their clear winners last week and there wasn’t a lot to get excited about other than those four. Ben Dwyer looked tired, Ryan Spooner got caught a few times, Keegan Downie dropped his head after losing a couple of contests, Matt Baker was undisciplined and gave away a couple of goals and their best player, Greg Bentley did a hamstring in the second quarter. Brenton Payne has a calf injury and Brenton Davidge has sore knees.

Football Preview That was last week! Rosebud can quickly turn things around. Somerville expected a tough, physical contest against Pearcedale and it’s exactly what they got. They also walked away with the four points. The Eagles have been very good without being fantastic and a win against Rosebud at Rosebud would really set their season up. It’s a 50/50 game though and there won’t be a lot in it. PEARCEDALE pushed Somerville right to the line last week and certainly had their chances. They will get win number three today against RYE. Rye too is really struggling and its only chance for victory this season will be against Tyabb. The Panthers are playing a really tough, committed, accountable brand of football and Rye could probably learn a thing or two about the way they are approaching it. It was fantastic for the DEVON MEADOWS Football Club to taste success last week and it should experience back-toback wins against TYABB today. The Meadows’ form has been pretty good this season and it deserved to experience victory after going through a pretty tough trot. Tyabb is struggling. I tried in my own odd way to wave the red flag at them last week to fire them up but it didn’t work. Quite simply, the Yabbies are still the whipping boys of the competition. CRIB POINT welcomes SORRENTO to the nest. There’s no love lost between these two clubs – you only have to read social media to work that out. The Sharks are playing some pretty good footy at the minute and as I stated previously, they have their mojo and swagger back – thanks largely to the return of Troy Schwarze and Leigh Poholke, two of the Pies’ favourites! Sorrento beat Rye by 110 points last week – from all reports, they enjoyed every minute of it. Something tells me they’ll enjoy giving it to the Pies in front of their home crowd too!

Club Notes

Crib Point played Devon Meadows away in what is always a tough affair for all sides. The Under 19’s got the four points before the game even started. Devon were several players short and unable to field a side resulting in a forfeit. Crib Point’s Reserves were also down on numbers after a few injuries in the first two rounds. Luckily some of the 19’s young stars were happy to pull on the boots again and help out. The Two’s started slowly and were down at quarter time but quickly found their rhythm. Matthew Sloper made a big impact, he gave the team a strong target to kick to and small forwards Sam Adams and Joel Wisken swooped on the crumbs both finishing with a few goals. Nick Rutherford was best on and starred in the mid-field while youngster Joseph ‘Joey Jo-Jo’ Smith was unbeatable at full back as the Reserve’s won by 55. Both senior teams were fired up in a game that was tipped to be a close one but it was Devon who hit the scoreboard first and controlled the game early. The Pies only goal came late in the term from Riley Clifford after a nice passage of play. If it wasn’t for Devon’s wayward kicking the game could’ve been over a lot earlier. The Magpies had their chances but costly turnovers at crucial times of the game hurt. Taylor Stratton was enormous for Crib once again, Youngster Ned Shannon played his best game for Crib Point kicking 3 impressive goals while Jayden Espenschied and Danny Vercoe were again good down back.

There’s not much better than getting three wins at home, but it certainly does taste that little bit sweeter when it’s against our old foe from down the road. That was the outcome last week when all three teams had comprehensive wins against the Rye boys. It was another great weekend for the Sharks and it continues our great start to the 2017 season. As was the case the week before, it was really pleasing to see the young fellas leading the charge in the Seniors with Zac Byrns, Chad Harris and Danny Stephenson all featuring in the best. Not to be left out of the action, it was the experienced campaigners in Dave ‘Plugger’ Lawson, Heath Cameron and Trev Mattison that managed to turn back the clock and play starring roles in the Reserves game. In the under 19s, it was the King and Gipp show with Kenny and Matthew King and Kayne and Jack Gipp being amongst the best on the day. This week we head out to Crib Point to take on the Magpies. Coming off the back of two straight losses, the Cribby boys will no doubt come out firing, but it’s another great chance for the Sharks to notch up another three wins and keep the momentum going. Let’s hope they can pull it off once again. Go Sharks!

Massive game today against last year’s grand finalist -the Bombers. Last week I mentioned our long rivalry with Rosebud, but we did play Frankston in our first year (1929) albeit their 2nd side. The Seniors made their own piece of history last week recording our first win at Rosebud since 1985. They truly dominated the Buds who kicked several goals in “junk time”. Let’s continue the good work today. How the Casey Scorpions allow Baker to play for Rosebud and disallow Danny Allsop to play for Red Hill remains a mystery to this scribe!! The seconds rematch of last year’s grand final was a tight affair for three quarters with Rosebud showing out in the last quarter. Similarly the unders with the result going our way. This was a good win as they were minus a few players who had school commitments Congratulations to PATISON PARTNERS who were the Huddle Banner winners, and to all the other participants who will feature on our TV screens during the season as player sponsors. Also accolades to Stingray Sam Fletcher chosen in the Vic Country TAC squad. Our netballers shared the honours with Rosebud last week and the club acknowledges the fine work done by the coaches with our five teams. Welcome Bomber fans to today’s games @ Red Hill where it seems a bit strange being up here in April & not the depths of winter when it feels like below freezing. Enjoy the day and treat yourself to a steak sandwich from the tin shed bbq, they are always good! Great day for our Club last Sunday, winning 6 from 6 against arch rival Hastings whilst celebrating the spirit of the Anzacs. Super job by Gav reciting the ode before the last post, minutes silence and national anthem send your thoughts to the thousands of Aussie servicemen and women who have served our country with distinction. The Unders jumped out of the blocks early and had an early 4 goal lead which held them in good shape for the rest of the game. Tyson was good up forward, as was Barnett & word is that Man U are looking at Jakes soccer skills. The 2’s remain unbeaten, but only just after a nail biting finish. Well played to Benny T, Bedders & Ben who were the drivers in the win. Nothing atones for a grand final loss, but a 10 goal win in the next match is a win to be proud of. Congratulations to Alex on being awarded the Anzac medal who had great support from Rowdy & Zac. Get along tonight to the Bombers Big Barn Dance which starts at 7.00. We want to see boots & hats, freckles & pigtails and big belt buckles on those jeans as you take on Bazz the Bucking Bull, swing your partner round & round in a square dance & drink moonshine. Today we face up to the challenge from Somerville who have become close rivals in recent years. As the season unfolds we start to see who has consistency and today our senior teams will be pushing to put their stamp on 2017. Last week most of the good news was off the field rather than on it. Sponsors Day was hugely supported, our invaluable sponsors again demonstrating their unshakeable support of our community football club, thanks to them and the Committee members who put the show together – a fitting display of community endorsement. A big thank you to Dean McRae & John Spaull for their role on the day, to guest speaker Glenn Archer and to The Hon Greg Hunt MP who took time out of his busy schedule to attend. On the field we had mixed results. Our senior team had some good minutes in the 1st & 4th quarters and kicked goals, but too few over the journey. The up side was the performance of our younger players who featured strongly, well done Peggy – a break out game, Sean, Tommy, Jake and Campbell. The Developments squad small forwards combined well to totally out score the Hillmen, Scott, Ed, Jamie were in and under at the right time as Thommo and Dale hammered the ball into the forward 50. The under 19s battled manfully but experience was probably their undoing in the last quarter, Jai/Reid, Nick, Joel, Stephen, Jaycob and Kieran were fantastic. This improvement of the clubs youth will significantly impact our season, just wait and see – it will only get better. The Club also congratulates Millie McDermott who was awarded the ANZAC Medal for best on court in our 59 to 35 win over Red Hill. Go Buds!

Today we venture down to Rosebud, a ground we have struggled at for ALL grades for a long period of time. We believe it is a 11 years since we have won a 1s game at Rosebud. That is a long time! A member of the committee believes it is 5yrs any grade has won against Rosebud at Olympic Oval. That is 15 games in a row the club has played and has come home with zilch! Hopefully today we get some runs on the board today! Crucial game for all grades today with U19s trying to put a bit space between it self and Rosebud, 2s trying to catchup for a slow start to the season and the 1s to keep their season perfect and crucial ‘8 point’ game! Last week saw us retain the Postcode Cup, but not before an awful fright in both 1s and 2s. Both team’s were headed in the last quarter but rallied to hang on. The U19s had a strong win against a depleted opposition. U19 Captain Pat Nagle bagged 6 in even team effort. 2s up by 16 at 3/4, Pearcedale kicked the first 2 goals of the last but a steadying goal and great game by Will Shields snuffed out the opposition and we were able to close out the game by 22pts. The 1s was a pretty poor standard game until last 10mins. Pearcedale kicked the first 2 of the last to get in front and all the run. A flying shot from Justin Allsop and a sealer from Jayden Carter sneaked us home. If we are to be taken seriously this year we must play a lot better. Club Notes

Today Ben Winters-Kerr becomes the 32nd player in the history of the Rye FC, to play 200 club games. 197 of those games have been in the seniors, an outstanding achievement to a player who bleeds red and blue. A senior Rye B & F winner in 2007, Ben would also have been a Rye premiership player in 2006, however a knee injury that year leading into the finals, ended his year and he missed the entire finals series. A player who gives his all, on the field each week. Whether it’s down back, or up forward, Ben is continually under packs getting the hard ball or in the face of the opposition, doing what he does best. He makes his teammates stand taller and is a fantastic role model for the younger players at the club, with his work ethic on a Saturday and the training track. Benny everyone at the club, wishes you the best of luck today in your 200th club game, and in 3 weeks’ time you will become only the 10th player to play 200 senior games at the Rye FC. We welcome all our lovely ladies to the club today, as it is ladies day up top in the social rooms. Have a great day ladies and let’s hope we give you you something to cheer about in the footy and netball. Not much to cheer about last week, with the seniors playing the premiership favourites and the first half was pretty average by us. Great to see a response in the second half, but the game was over at ½ time. Reserves battled hard all day and are now starting to get some good numbers on the track, so looking forward to some positive results in the next few weeks. U/19’s played one bad quarter and that cost them the game. Let get back on the winners list today.

Last week we travelled to Dromana and played in perfect conditions. No excuse for the performance of our senior team. With a strong week of training under our belt the expectation was high, but unfortunately we didnâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t stick the the game plan and could not deliver. If we are to take the next step and be more competitive then everyone must rise to the challenge. We take on Devon today at home and must bring our best for the entire 4 Qtrs without fail. In what turned out to be an enthralling contest the development side continued on their winning ways eventually getting over the line by 10 points. The win was set up by an explosive first quarter where we raced out to a four goal lead. In a fine team effort we were able to hold in on the last quarter with the experienced players stepping up when needed. A much improved effort by the 19s, 14 scoring shots at goal was a terrific effort from a group of boys just starting to play together. We are working with Mt Eliza each week to help with our numbers and we really appreciate this. A big game today v Devon with a real chance to take the 4 points if we work together on the field. NIP! Back on the road this week, we find ourselves in the beautiful surrounds of Tyabb. Walking distance home for our Vice President Kingy, although by the time he gets home tonight it will more likely be a stumble then a walk. With a freshly waxed back though, at least he will be aerodynamic as he makes his way back through Bunguyan Reserve. Reports suggest that he has tipped the scales 3.5kg lighter since Tuesday’s hair removal procedure at the hands of Youngy’s better half Jess. In footy news, finally broke the duck last week after a couple of close calls in the first 2 rounds. After a fast start by our lads, Crib Point came out hard in the 2nd quarter to narrow the margin to just a solitary point at half time. We re-grouped impressively after the major break and pushed ahead to the final siren to record a convincing 32 point win. Budgie had a ripper day snagging 10...... behinds, to go with his 4 majors. To be fair, alot of those shots were from the boundary or outside 50. But, 10 behinds is 10 behinds and it deserves a mention! Fair to say he will be eyeing off a bagful today to make up for that. Well done to Stef as well who picked up the ANZAC Medal for best afield. Not too many arguments there as he had a brilliant game bursting out of the guts. The Reserves had a crack but just lacked the little bit of extra class and composure that Crib Point had up their sleeve. Well our great start to the season came crashing down with a thud on the heavy Greg Beck oval in Baxter with all teams losing to the Frankston Bombers. The under 19,s were right in the game up until 3/4 time but were over run by their opponents, but still not a bad effort against a traditionally strong side. The reserves probably let one get away, maybe to much handball and not enough urgency to get the ball forward, but only lost it in the last 2 minutes and were well in front at half time, so a bit to work with there. The Seniors, competed well early but could not get a score on the board, and Frankston held a very handy 8 goal lead at half time, a terrific 3rd quarter saw the lead reduced to under 4 goals at one stage, but Frankston managed to steady and convert the few chances they had to score Donâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t forget to book your tickets for the John Coleman lunch on Saturday the 20th of May, where you will see 10 former club greats get inducted to the Hastings hall of fame, and also one Legend will be added to the list, Coleman medallist and Richmond premiership player Michael Roach will be guest speaker, with the Nelson twins providing some comic relief. to book ring the club on 59791740. Our sponsors for this round against 2016 Premiers Hastings are The New Atrium and The Bays Eye Centre. The game last week against Tyabb saw mixed results with the Seniors and U19s posting good wins and the Reserves with a patched up team again coming close. Club Senior Captain Terry Wheeler won the Anzac medal as adjudged by the umpires. Today’s games will be a chance to see whether our Seniors and U19s have finally clicked as a playing group and wins are a must if we want to feature in the finals. Coaches are always looking for versatility in their players but last week it was left up to the off field personnel when our scoreboard operator stepped in for the missing singer during the Anzac Service at very short notice. Well done. If you haven’t bought a membership this year we encourage you to as you will save on gate entry cost, also you will note that Footy Records are now $2:00 as previously they were selling below cost, or you could sponsor a player for $220 inc GST which includes Membership and entry in a Raffle for a Ticket to the President’s Luncheon. Bendigo Community Bank Nepean Netball Preview – Round 4 2017 Crib Point v Sorrento Is there going to be any side that can stop this Crib Point juggernaut? The Magpies have won all three of their opening round by minimum of 24 points. They have only had 60 goals scored against them which is hats off to their solid defence. This week they will face Sorrento, a team who is full of young promising netballers, and will give their all, but won’t have the experience to match the 2016 Premiers. Another ‘W’ in Cribb Point’s column. Red Hill v Frankston Red Hill face a fired-up Rosebud last week to go down by 24 points. Red Hill certainly just haven’t got their grove together yet and will be looking to make the most of the home court advantage in the wool sheds. Frankston are having a great season so far. Except for the u17’s comp the Bombshells are sitting in the top four in each grade undefeated. It shows the depth that the red and black have in 2017. A Bye last week for the A grade side will mean they are refreshed and ready to take the court again. Frankston to continue their good form.

Rye v Pearcedale The Demons have certainly turned it on for their first two games. Sitting 5th just outside the top 4 by percentage, Rye will be looking to return to September action in 2017. A solid 21-point win over Sorrento last week help their cause. Pearcedale haven’t had the best start but they have had some tough oppositions in their first few rounds. While the Panthers will be hungry for the first ‘w’ Rye should take home the chocolates this week. Tyabb v Devon Meadows First win of 2017 for Tyabb last week. The Yabbies will be wrapped with the 4 points and be looking to use this as a spring board to launch the rest of their 2017 campaign. Devon Meadows will be disappointed with last weeks result against Crib Point and no doubt come out guns blazing against Tyabb. The Yabbies have had the better of Devon the last few years but the Panthers will sense this could be their time to strike back, and will return to the winner list. Bye: Dromana

Rosebud v Somerville After narrowly being defeat by Rye, Rosebud came out last week with appoint to prove. The Buds looking to take the next step, after a few years of the their under 17 sides making finals the talent is coming through and showing on the court. This week’s game will certainly be a challenge as they take on Somerville who look to be the biggest threat to Crib Point. The Eagles are thus far undefeated and will want to continue that title. This will be another great game with Somerville just having a little more polish.

Round 3 vs Tyabb saw another week off for our Under 17s who will again rest this weekend when the club takes on Hastings. The girls are working really hard so expect them to come out firing Round 5! D Grade- What a game for our D grade girls! Their incredible teamwork and intensity on court saw them bring home a 13 goal win with a dominant 14-4 last quarter. Kaitlyn Novotny was outstanding with 28 goals, with Liv Geurts and Tiarna Foster fantastic in the mid court. C Grade- A close and very winnable game that unfortunately we lets slip away. It was a slow start however the girls came back to win the second quarter. Tyabb were too good in the second half and the side went down by 8. There were a lot of positives to take out of the game and it will be a great rematch later in the season. Best for the day were Mel Ashton and Beinda Ingram. B Grade- Fantastic effort by the B grade girls who were unfortunately let down by a low scoring third quarter, being outscored 12-6 to finish with a 9 goal loss. The girls played well against tough competition and show a lot of promise for the season ahead. Our defensive combination of Nell Jenkins and Maggie Alford were our best for the day. A Grade- A very tough game against some really skilled competition. The game highlighted some areas of opportunity for us to work on if we are going to match it with the best in the league . Our best for the day were Georgie Dunn and Laura Hopkins, with Julie Smith from Tyabb taking home the Anzac Day Medal. A big congrats to A grade player Jade Traynor-Smith on playing her 100th game! Jade is a multiple club award winner and one of the heart and soul members of our squad! Incredible effort!

We look forward to our B, C and D teams taking on Hastings this weekend, with all three teams hungry for their second win of the season. Go Tigers!

Rosebud Buds

A-Grade – Team work was at a paramount against Red Hill. It was fantastic to see everyone fight for the ball and each other for the entire game. Whole court defence was improved & it’s exciting to see the development that is already happening this season. Congrats to Millie McDermott who was awarded the ANZAC Medal for best on court. B-Grade – Tough game with a few positional changes due to illnesses. Red Hill put a lot of pressure on & worked us hard. Well done to them for coming out with the win. Our defence worked really hard but the height of their shooters was a challenge. Our best player was Shannon who was a powerhouse in centre and second was Jess in defence. C-Grade – Our team were as strong as ever. Our first quarter we came out with the best attitude ever. 2nd quarter Red Hill came out with a vengeance and ran all over us with a 10-3 quarter. 3rd quarter we had one of those speeches that turned our attitude around. Our fight back was amazing. We never gave up and it showed. We came home with a draw thanks to a brilliant out of court shot from lozzy. Awards – #1 Ellie, #2 Lauren Under 17s – The girls game out firing with their strong defensive pressure right down the court. Despite a few silly passes the girls held it together leading the first 3 quarters. Unfortunately the pressure got to us with poor decision making and silly errors costing us the game but the girls fought to the end. Awards – #1 Casey, #2 Hollie

Rye Demons

The weather held off at Sorrento and we had four great games of netball. The U17 game was a close with all girls giving 100%. Defence was tight with both teams showing great skills in the ring. Rye had a great start and were down by only 2 at half time. After a disappointing 3rd quarter we came back to win the last quarter, but was not enough to take out the win. BOC– Ruby C grade had a great win. Melinda and Molly teamed up well in defence, with plenty of intercepts. The team worked consistently to improve the lead each quarter. Jodie and Jenny capitalised on the teams efforts scoring 45 goals for the game. Well done ladies. BOC-Merle B Grade was a nail biter!! Rye had a 1 goal lead at the first break, but Sorrento fought back to gain a good lead in the second and third quarters. Shania played a solid 4 quarters in Centre. The Rye defenders came back in the last quarter, putting pressure on the Sorrento shooters creating some well needed turnovers. It was a very exciting final quarter with the final score 32 all. BOC-Shania Even with a few players out today, the Rye A Grade ladies came out showing great skills all over the court, with Georgina and Taylah playing well together in goals. The defenders were tight all game with Bianca having a great game, intercepting and rebounding well. BOC-Bianca Congratulations to all on great games today. Our Ladies day is on today in the Club rooms from 1.30pm. There will be music, afternoon tea, drinks and raffles. All very welcome!

Thanks to Blairgowrie Cleaning Services for their ongoing support with our netball girls. This week was a good local game with Sorrento versing Rye. The u17s had a tough match.. A shakey start lead to a couple of not so flash passes and the nerves began to show. However slowly they made their way back and with a position switch in the goals proved a good move from their new coach Ash! After their toughest match so far the girls were able to come out on top for their 3rd win in a row! Well done girls. The C Grade girls once again started off well but the Rye team were too good in the end. They welcomed Sarah Nisbet to the team. Jazzy fired the team up throughout the game and played an awesome game in the centre court. They weren’t able to welcome home a win, but looking forward to giving it a good crack next weekA ripper of a game in the B grade from the beginning. They had a great team and were ahead for the majority of the game. Rye came back in the last quarter and the final score was draw. It was a great effort from everybody, improving every week. The A Grade girls played another great game against Rye. Welcome back to Grace Marks, great to have her back on the court!! All the girls played a hard game and never gave up, the girls shot the first 5 goals of the game however sadly the score got away from us resulting in a loss. Each week sees the girls improving and playing well as a team. We all have a tough game next week against Crib Point, Good luck girls!!!! GO SHARKS

Tyabb Yabbies

Unfortunately for our D grade girls, they were the only Yabby team to go down to Dromana. Despite Georgia Baker’s best efforts in defence & Amy’s strong work ethic all game, Dromana took control of the match in the third & extended their lead in the last quarter. C Grade stepped up their intensity & were rewarded for their efforts. Hannah was a steadying force in attack & was well supported by Jayde & Mayra through the midcourt. It was the girls’ first strong game across the entire court which is a sign of things to come. B Grade worked on the basics at training during the week & were able to apply better decision making during patches of the game. Lenny was the main contributor, bringing leadership to the court & working so hard all game despite the immense physical pressure being applied by her opponent. A strong 3rd quarter extended the lead for the Yabbies but sloppiness crept back in during the last, allowing the final score line to slightly disappoint the girls. A Grade came out ruthless & absolutely dominated the first quarter. Dromana settled, increased their patience & were able to find safer passages to goal as the game progressed. Julz was outstanding in defence & was rewarded with the ANZAC medal. Today, as we welcome Devon to The Pond, we also celebrate Lenny’s 100th match. Over her 100 games she has been a premiership player, best on court in a gf, multiple club r/u bnf & outstanding VC to our B Grade squad for many years. CONGRATS LENNY! NIP! NIP!

Somerville Eagles

Last week saw us take on Pearcedale down at the Nest. The season has been promising for all teams and we wanted to continue that across all games. The D girls showed more improvement and some great passages of play. Even though they didn’t come away with a win, there were some real highlights and positives to take into next round. The C girls fought hard worked their combinations well. They are showing that they are a tough side to beat, getting better with each game that they play. The B girls demonstrated why they are one of the top sides, coming away with another big win. Their teamwork and determination showing in the end score. The A girls fought hard and backed each other up. They are really coming together as a team which was reflected in their game and their combinations. Congratulations to Danni Planner who won the ANZAC Medal! Her tireless efforts and drive were evident on court. This round we take on Rosebud. We are looking forward to 4 tough games and hopefully 4 more wins! GO EAGLES!!

Devon Meadows Panthers

The U/17s finally had their 1st game of the season . What a thriller it was. Playing Rosebud who played in the grand final last year was never going to be an easy task. It was a tough battle by both teams. Rosebud had the lead at half time but our girls were determined to chase hard. The defensive work from the whole team created many turnovers. With minutes to go we’d caught up & the scores were even. The final goal was shot, the siren went , & a very excited Redhill crowd cheered out loud as our U/17s won by a goal. C grade started off pretty even, the defensive pressure was great but unfortunately we didn’t capitalise on many of our opportunities. We regrouped at qrt time & came out strong in the 2nd qrt. Annie C & Abbie working well in the goal circle. At 3 qrt time rosebud were a couple of goals in front. Both teams fought out a tough and exciting last qtr with the game finally ending in a draw. It was a great effort by both teams. B grade had a comfortable win with some energetic & exciting play. Aimee & Liv R were dynamic in defence. Midcourt players feeding the ball through to the goalers who finished off well. Looking forward to this team moving up the ladder as they build on the efforts of this week Again our A grade was depleted, so it was a tough match from the onset with Rosebud gaining control of the game early. Despite all our efforts things didn’t go our way with the points going to Rosebud this time. Thanks to the girls who played up a grade again.

What a week!! Firstly, on behalf of the girls at Devon Meadows we would like to wish a massive congratulations to Tanie and Brett Strickland on the arrival of baby willow!! She is an absolute gem and I’m sure will be an amazing netballer just like her mum (playing for Devon Meadows of course!) Coming up against cribby was always going to be tough as they are always a strong side! Our d grade girls came out firing and won 30 to 17. The girls did everything that we worked on at training and the systems showed on the court. For a new team they are coming together well and we look forward to a positive season. C grade were beaten 34 to 42. The girls fought till the end and boc went to Jenelle bain Cribby was just too good for our b grade, loosing 29 to 46. They were a strong team who had obviously been playing together for a long time and this showed on the court. We have a lot of potential and with hard work and dedication we believe we can get to this level. Boc Elyse Herrick. A grade also fell to the wrath of cribby, loosing 20 to 56. We were convincingly beaten by last years premiers. But we are growing with each outing and there are promising signs of things to come. Despite the scoreline to the girls credit they didn’t give up, they kept fighting to the end. New combinations are coming together. We are a work in progress. Best on court Natalie Fallon. With only 1 win out of 4 we hold our heads high coming up to play tyabb in what we expect to be another tough round.

Hastings Blues

D grade started the day against a much stronger and experience side. We saw improved play transitioning from the defense end through the mid court but failed to get the goals on the board. They will come, continue to commit to training and the improvements will continue. Best players were Ruby, Kristy and Maegan. C grade had a very competitive game and a few swaps of positions which worked in our favour. In the 1st quarter the aggressive play through us off. A few stern words and some tough love spirit got the girls to strengthen up for the remainder of the game. In the 4th quarter bombers had 10 turn overs to which we scored from 5 of them. Our tight defence interrupted their game but due to their consistent shooting under any pressure they got away from us. Very proud of the girls, playing as a team and worked through the tough opposition! Best players were the two Graces’ and Jaimi. B grade had a tight contest for four quarters. Started strongly in the first quarter but lapsed in the second and third and let the Bombers take the lead going into the last quarter. The last quarter was cracker, going goal for goal but just falling short but the barest of margins. Best players were Ebony, Shaye and Taylah.

Previously it was once in a blue moon, but now Bombshells are developing a blueprint for getting those winning blue ribbons. In the end it was Hastings Blues feeling blue, as we were able to come away 3 from 3. D grade rolled out the red carpet, and Ashlyn was tickled pink shooting more goals than she could count. Tori seemed to see red and chased down the netball almost as enthusiastically as she would some charcoal chicken. Special mention to our defenders Bec and Cell having a black belt in defending keeping the Blues to only 4 goals. C grade waved the red flag early signalling danger against their challengers. There was no grey area for H as she commanded the GS bib, only giving it back at full time. Jade had us green with envy with her accuracy. Finally Zen’s tattoos weren’t the only standout when she was given the green light for countless intercepts. B grade started the game as usefully as violet crumble in a knife fight. However they did not wave their white flag and won in a one goal thriller. The spectators were green around the gills and white faced with nerves. In an absolute purple patch is Mad Zach, who thrilled us with crucial intercepts and impenetrable defence across that mid court! And although A grade did not have a game we can’t do a colour theme without mentioning our only natural red head Rubes who’s scoring ability is second to none. 18 puns for those counting at home!

Pearcedale Panthers Last week we took the court to honour those that fought and died for us all those years ago at Gallipoli in our annual ANZAC Day round. Like soldiers, the girls took their place on the court to face Somerville in the inaugural 3912 Postcode cup. Our day started out well with D grade absolutely smashing out of the gates to take Sommy by surprise & outscore them 12- 4 in the first quarter. Safe to say that Sommy never really recovered after that and Pearcedale cruised home to a 33-21 victory. C Grade was a tough fought battle from start to finish with brilliant displays of netball from both sides. Getting out to a 5 goal lead after the first, Pearcedale turned on the heat to turn it all around and end up 2 goals up at half time after some brilliant shooting from their captain EmKate and tight defence all over. Unfortunately Sommy responded in the second half with even more intensity and ended up taking the W by 8 goals. Get the feeling this C Garde team hasnt quite reached their full potential yet so watch this space! A short-handed B Grade struggled to fill their injury gaps down both ends of the court and Sommy cruised away to a comfortable win. Commiserations to Pearcedale though, who kept their chins and effort up right till the end.

An ever-improving A Grade side looked good all over the court but struggled to convert their hardwork into scoreboard pressure. However, one thing is clear; this young side is improving every week and the future of our club is looking bright.

Crib Point Magpies It has been a great start to the season for our A B and C grades, all continuing the year undefeated after traveling down to Devon last week. D grade lost an early jump resulting in them playing catch up all day. Great backup down the court by the defenders and movement around the ring by Kylie kept the girls in the game but unfortunately couldn’t make up that early lead. Tomi receives BOC for her always improving movement in the ring and her goals. C grade took on last year’s premiers and were switched on from the word go. It was nice having a tall goaler back in the ring but the feeding and movement in the attack end was still very efficient. Defending duo Ayla and Amie created several turnovers to convert allowing a solid win. BOC went to newcomer Bree for slotting into the team so effortlessly and for providing great drives down the court. B grade took an early lead and held on for the rest of the game. Brooke was in total control in defence creating several turnovers for the goalers to convert. BOC went to Amy for her very accurate goaling and well working partnerships with both goalers. The new attacking end is jelling together more every week! A grade had an amazing first quarter which set them up for the rest of the game. Leah received BOC for an outstanding performance not only in WD but C. Fierce in defence and accurate in attack, A grade are in a very strong position. Silky Douglas was flawless in defence awarding her the Anzac Day medal. Go Crib!
