AFL South East A look at what is happening around AFL South East Community Umpire Round This week we get to celebrate the men and women who adjudicate our wonderful games. Each week umpires do their job come rain, hail or shine. The umpires over at SUA, do a fantastic job so make sure you thank them this week and show some appreciation as they are a vital part to both football and netball. On a side note the SUA are looking to recruit some more umpires to adjudicate the FDJFL games. Umpiring is a great way to stay involved in the game, and keep fit. If you are interested in giving umpiring a go please contact the SUA.
Finals Venues SEFNL The AFL South East Commission has announced several of the finals venues for 2017, including Grand Finals. In what could be a statewide first, the SEFNL Grand Final will be played under lights at Casey Fields on Saturday night September 16. This is an exciting opportunity to showcase the quality product SEFNL has to offer. Apart from being able to showcase the product, a night Grand Final also avoids clashes with other Grand Finals such as Nepean and nearby leagues who have Grand Finals on that afternoon In what will be a big day for SEFNL, the netball Grand finals will also be conducted at Casey Fields on the same day. Full details of times will be released in due course. AFL South East appreciates the assistance of the City of Casey and the Casey Demons in facilitating this initiative. We can also confirm that the SEFNL Preliminary Finals for football and netball will also be conducted at Casey Fields. A tender process for the hosting rights for weeks 1 & 2 of finals will be conducted shortly.
Women’s Football Commences After what has been a long pre-season I am sure there are many women out there who are delighted that the season proper commences this week end. AFL South East is managing 3 divisions of South East Womens Football (SEWF). We have 7 teams in SEWF Chisholm Division 1, which includes 2 AFLSE Teams (Cranbourne & Seaford) and 10 teams in SEWF Mornington Racing Course Division 2 which includes 6 AFLSE teams (Beaconsfield, Cranbourne, Edithvale-Aspendale, Mornington, Red Hill and Seaford) We also have 15 teams in the Mornington Racing Course South East Development League, which is a great result for the first year of this league. We also welcome in to our region 4 clubs from Gippsland. Without the co-operation of our Clubs, these girls would not have had a competition to play in. We appreciate there will be some additional travel for some, however for the most part AFLSE Clubs have been very generous in accommodating these extra teams. We hope this will encourage other teams in Gippsland to form their own competition in the future. Good luck to all the girls playing their first competitive game this weekend. John Anderson RGM AFL South East
MPNFL In a slight change to previous years, there will be additional Nepean Finals played at Mornington Isuzu Ute Stadium (Frankston Park) this year. Weeks 1 & 2 of finals will have one game at MIU Stadium, followed by the Preliminary Final and Grand Final on the afternoon of September 16. The Peninsula League will follow a similar path with one final in each of weeks 1 & 2 being at MIU Stadium as well as the Preliminary Final and Grand Final, which will take place on Sunday September 17. As for SEFNL, the tender process for the hosting of finals in week 1 & 2 for the Nepean and Peninsula Leagues will be conducted shortly.

AFL Vic Country 2017 Community Umpiring Round AFL Victoria and the wider football community will pause to acknowledge the terrific work undertaken by our umpires this weekend in the AFL’s dedicated Community Umpiring Round. Held from May 6 - 8, the initiative is designed to recognise those patrolling the boundary, manning the goal line and controlling the action out in the middle each week, and the huge role they play in our game. In Victoria alone there are more than 7,000 registered umpires at community level, along with thousands of club-based umpires, who commit their time and energy to allow those chasing the Sherrin the chance to do so safely. To celebrate the occasion, a host of AFL Umpires will forgo their usual training session and instead disband and travel to community umpiring groups across Victoria to engage with local members and facilitate training sessions. In addition, six members from each community umpiring group have been invited to develop their skills and knowledge of the game under the guidance of some of the game’s national umpiring coaches at IKON Park. AFL Umpires’ Coaches Simon Leigh (Boundary), Steve Stirling (Goal) and Hayden Kennedy (Field) will take the fortunate umpires through their paces in an on-field training session and provide an insight to how AFL Umpires are coached.
Across Victoria, huge efforts are being made to attract umpires from all walks of life, with the development of Diversity Umpire Academies and Female Umpiring Academies growing from strength to strength. If you are new to the game, or your playing days are over, than umpiring is a great way to contribute to community football. Regardless of your age, gender, culture or ability, anyone can get involved in umpiring and enjoy the many benefits the roles provide. Not only do you get the best view of the action, but it helps keep you fit, be part of a team and learn leadership skills that you can take with you when you walk off the ground. For details on how you can become an umpire, visit www.aflvic.com.au/umpiring
WorkSafe AFL Victoria Country Football Manager Jim Cail
Furthermore, four lucky members of community umpiring groups will lead out their AFL counterparts at all of AFL matches in Round 7 and enjoy a taste of an AFL Umpire’s match-day experience. Community Umpiring Round is also another opportunity to encourage those who want to be involved in the greatest game in the world to take up umpiring.

Football Preview SHARKS OUT TO TAME TIGERS by Simon McEvoy SEAFORD and BONBEACH have been two of the most impressive performers in the first month of the season, building excellent 3-1 records. Both look capable of challenging powerhouse Frankston YCW. Today, the Tigers and Sharks clash in the match of the round. Seaford takes a three-game winning streak into the game, having dispatched Chelsea, Langwarrin and Karingal. The Tigers look the real deal, powered by Dean Williamson, Aaron Walton, Kyle Matthews and impressive recruit Matt McCormack, who slotted 7 goals last week. On a roll, Seaford’s best is still to come. Steve Hughes’ Bonbeach didn’t get off to the start it hoped, dropping its opening game, but has been faultless since, tossing Edi-Asp, Chelsea and Langwarrin. The Sharks have been workmanlike, tough and determined, with skipper Jackson Casey, Dylan Jones, Jackson Sole, Trent Dennis-Lane and Jacob Flannery turning in consistent displays. After snapping an 18-game losing streak last week, CHELSEA has the chance to make it two wins in a row when it hosts KARINGAL. The Seagulls played determined, disciplined footy last week to stun last season’s grand finalists Mt Eliza. Was it a flash in the pan? Or was it the start of a Chelsea resurgence? “The challenge for the whole footy club is to maintain it,’’ Chelsea coach Brett Dunne said. Chelsea players proved themselves last week. Curtis Bywater, in his first game of the season, really added to the Seagulls’ slick ball movement, while James Brain, Jack Francis, Brad Clark, Aaron Pawel and Simon Mitchelhill were terrific. Karingal (1-3) has lost its past three games – to Mornington, Frankston YCW and Seaford - after starting the season with a win. The Bulls have dropped away after half-time in recent weeks – a trend coach Andrew Sharp will no doubt be keen to arrest. Karingal edged Chelsea by two points in this corresponding game last season, and another tight contest is on the cards. PINES (3-1) has the chance to open up a three-game break on MORNINGTON (1-3) when the aspiring contenders clash at the Snake Pit. The Pythons will be looking to consolidate their place in the top three, while Mornington - sitting in seventh spot - can’t afford another loss. Pines’ winning run came to an end last week at the hands of reigning premiers Frankston YCW, but the Pythons have the talent to bounce back quickly. They will need their big guns firing. Chewy Scanlon continues to lead by example and Lachlan Marshall, Nick Boswell and Jacob Boyle have been in good form.
Mornington will be kicking itself after coughing up a 30-point lead in the last quarter against Edi-Asp last week. The Bulldogs need to respond today and get their season going. Certainly they have the talent. Pete McGettigan, Dale Whelan and Jackson Calder form a formidable forward line, and Joel Miller and Ryan Smith are in good touch. The wins will come but they need to play four quarters each week. Cellar dwellers LANGWARRIN will be out to upset MT ELIZA, which is coming off a shock loss to Chelsea. Langy can take some confidence from their effort last week against Bonbeach when they led early and posted their highest score of the season, despite losing. Newcomer Owen Uaongo has been good in the ruck for the Kangas, while Joel Bateman, Shelton Rosario and Blake Harkness provide class. Mt Eliza (2-2) is sure to be desperate to atone for last week’s disappointing loss and will look to the in-form Ben Landry, David Barton, Shaun Knott and Rohan Heasley to lead the way. EDI-ASP turned its season around with one big burst of footy last week, swamping Mornington in the last quarter. Now the Eagles face the toughest test in local footy, the might of FRANKSTON YCW. The Eagles were flat in the third quarter last week and can’t afford to be hot-and-cold against the Stonecats. But the excitement generated from last week’s fast-finishing win could propel the Eagles to a new level. Edi-Asp has the talent to push YC, with ruckman Chris Wylie playing good footy, and the likes of Steve Mannix, Brendan Neville, Charlie Martello and Angus Macquire looking the goods. Frankston YCW, so consistent, continues to unearth fresh talent. Luke Paynter was terrific last week, as was Mack Raine, while Lachlan Street and Angus Wright are other emerging players to keep an eye on.

Football Preview PYTHONS READY FOR DOGS IN THE RESERVES… Last start winners PINES and MORNINGTON meet in a game that will see the winner sitting in fourth spot tonight. Lee Hearnden has been in sizzling form for the Pythons. Second-placed SEAFORD (3-1) is chasing its fourth win in a row when it hosts BONBEACH (2-2). The Tigers are playing with plenty of confidence, with the likes of James Herbert, Ben Duffield and Taka Tohiariki just a few to impress lately. LANGWARRIN has banked just one win so far and faces undefeated MT ELIZA, with Matt Hill in sparkling form up forward. Winless KARINGAL faces a tough task against a capable CHELSEA side. STARS ON DISPLAY IN THE UNDER 19s… LANGWARRIN and MT ELIZA kicked a combined 41 goals last week as they surged to tearaway wins. Now they go head-to-head in one of the games of the season. Langy is the highest scoring side in the comp, with options aplenty up forward with the likes of Matt Peynenborg, Nathan Allen, Max Watters and Shannon Read. Likewise, Mt Eliza can score quickly with Harrison Cameron, Harrison Scott and Zane Hill capable of turning it on. Undefeated FRANKSTON YCW hasn’t looked like dropping a game but the Stonecats can expect a tougher assignment against EDI-ASP in this top-of-the-ladder clash. MORNINGTON showed plenty of spirit to win last week and the Bulldogs, with Ryan Rose, Jacob Rowler and Luke Ambler in slick form, should make it two on the spin against PINES. SEAFORD is chasing back-to-back wins when it hosts BONBEACH. Ben Searle and Lachlan Edwards continue to impress for the Tigers. KARINGAL, after two losses in a row, will look to bounce back against CHELSEA.

Just a pleasure to be at Beardsworth last week to witness something special, more later. Overall it was a very positive day for the Club, the 19’s again showed some real spirit having to go with 17 players against quality opposition. Mark Knowles and his team can hold their heads high regarding the effort these lad’s produce each week. Solid effort with big Jess, Coby, Corey, Baum’y all very good. The 2’s again showed glimpses of real quality but need to run out a full game. Steve and Nana working hard and I’m sure in the coming weeks they will be winning again, Lewie, Big Stu, Bourkey and Drilla all playing well with good support from Mitchell and Peele. The Seniors was just a cracking game and I sincerely hope a few of the doubters now except where Brett and his Staff are trying to get to. Good signs the previous week and finally the “ Whole “ Group brought in, Don’t want to single anyone out as I honestly believe there were no passengers. On the quiet though the Carpet Cleaner can take a bow. No excuses from now on Lad’s, trust each other and play as a unit and I’m sure we are on the right track. Lex and King’y, under 19’s, they listen and they learn, also rapted for the (8) the hardest your little mate has been tackled for years I reckon !!! To all our Faithful, please keep fronting up, even Joseph was seen barracking hard from the Can Bar late in the last QTR See you at the Gullery

Club Notes Today we are off to Regent Park to take on Edi-Asp in 7 oval and round ball clashes. Based on ladder positions it appears there will be some cracker games. Last week we retained the Spirit of Frankston Cup in an absorbing contest against Pines. We blooded some young ‘uns (Lachie and Gus) and prevailed by 27 points. Luke Paynter recovered from a nasty knock and had a klinker of a game. The consistent Mincho and Matt Laffa collected possessions at will and Chris Ongars had a belter down back. In the Magoos Pines got away from us at the start but we fought back to be in the game at 3/4 time. A scoreless last stanza put paid to our aspirations. Nick King, SOD and Sam Pickess were best whilst Tyler Sigley booted 3 goals. Hutcho’s men continued on their merry way recording a comfortable win against a dogged Pythons outfit. Ben Crackers was in vintage form, Jarrod Sullivan kicked 5 sausage rolls and Lachie Dalziel had a great game Congrats to the Netballers who had a clean sweep – you can read about it in their notes Coming up on May 20 (the Bonbeach game) we have the past players function. On May 27 (the Langy game) the Netballers are having their annual Ladies Day fundraiser from 1.00pm to 5.00pm. Entry fee of $50 gives you lunch, a drinks package plus entertainment and prizes. This is always a sell out so book your tables/ tickets promptly. Contact netballtreasurer@stonecats.com.au or Steph Boulton. Welcome back to Lloyd Park for the big clash against Mt Eliza. This week we would like to thank a key sponsor for their ongoing support. Norm and the team at TESG thanks! Last week saw us have a huge win in the U/19’s. Best players included Max Watters who kicked a bag of 6 and Matty Peyenborg and Jake Millward. We tried hard in the reserves , only going down by 2 points. Made all the more disappointing as we had the ball in our forward line for much of the last quarter , but kicked inaccurately. Good players included Tayls , Bicey and Lachie Davies. The seniors started well, the game was theirs to win at half time. A 7 goal to 3 second half, from Bonbeach saw us go down despite trying hard all day. Our backs again played well and Patto , Siz , Tuddy and Mitch Cuthbert were all again good. Good also to see Mitch Mathie kick 2. We need to be sure we dont drop our heads at any point this week against Mt Eliza. It was good to see a good crowd attend afterwards at the club to see The Bizarre Gazzard Hypnotist show we know one participant in particular gave the show a fairly unique, some would say “ fish like “ round of applause. Please keep an eye on the clubs facebook page for further upcoming events - all are most welcome. Today we would like to see as many of you back up at the club after the game for the awarding of the Leith Gage cup. Be sure to buy a raffle ticket for your chance to win a brand new car when you are up there. Go Langy !!

Last week we ventured to Chelsea, coming off a great Anzac Day earlier in the week. The U/19’s started well having 10 scoring shots to 3 in the opening quarter and led by 7 goals at 1/2 time, with Ryan Baker booting 5. The 3rd quarter saw us kick 3.5 to nil and another 5.6 to nil in the last to run out 106 point winners. Harry Cameron starred up forward also with 7 goals. Other better players included Housey, Moz, Scotty & Hawk. The Reserves dominated early in the 1st qtr kicking 4 goals before Chelsea kicked the last couple, but a 5 goal to 1 2nd term saw the game open right up. An even 3rd term saw us go into the last leading by 5 goals. We ended up with a 40 point win with Lefty dominating with a career high 6 goals & Groota 2. Other better players were Stricko, Nugget, Toucs, Matty Paz & Jem. The Seniors got away to a flyer with 4 early goals before Chelsea fought back in the 2nd with 4 goals to 1. A low scoring 3rd term saw us go in to the last leading by just 8 points. They held firm in a tense last qtr to get across the line by a goal. Knotty was dangerous early with 3 goals, as was JV but that was about it. Serviceable games came from Heasa, Jay, Robbie, Barto & Langers. Need a big lift today v Langwarrin. Congrats to Nath Ryan & Aaron Dunne on their 50th Games today and to Langers on his 100th Senior Game. Sponsor of the Week: kikki.k - Swedish Stationery & Gifts. Morning showers greeted us at YCW. Unders tried hard against top team and battled manfully showing spirit.. better players been Santos, Humphrey and Broman .Reserves lead from the outset and held sway for the match. Think farty was playing when the 2s last won there. Better players were Hearnden, Frawley , Falzon and Goldsmith. In the main game we fumbled all day and didn’t get our run going. Fought all day to go down by 26 points. Best were Boyle,Smillie and Boswell. Welcome to Mornington this week. Coach Profile this week is Glenn Cornell... Back at the kennel last week after a four day turnaround after ANZAC day and the boys were hoping to get back in the winner’s circle. We missed opportunities early & nothing much improved in the second quarter and we found ourselves 17 points down at the main break. For the first time in a few weeks we found our spark & kicked 9.5 to 2 goals in the third and looked to have the game at our mercy leading by 30 points at the last change. Someone pulled the hand break and with 12 scoring shots to zero in the last quarter we were gone, done by 17 points. The Reserves saddled up against ladder leaders Edi Asp .Right from the first bounce the boys were on. The amount of pressure the boys put on from the start was fantastic which did not stop the whole day even with 30 seconds to go we kept on tackling It was a great team effort all over the ground. A much better result for our pups on the weekend. Reward for effort against a good opponent. The pressure was on right from the start of the game and in a see sawing affair we were lucky enough to be in front when the siren went. On a sour note, a major head injury to Lachie Hewitt had us all concerned for the rest of the day. Lauchie required several plates and screws to be placed in the left side of his face. Lachie is out of hospital and we wish him a speedy recovery. Our first club function tonight back at the clubrooms Bizarre Gazzard - starts at 7-7.30pm - All welcome so get along tonight to support the club Go Doggies

A warm welcome to all the Bonbeach faithful to RF Miles today. Today is always a special day on our Calendar when we play our close rivals for the Chris Smith Memorial Shield in the Reserves match. Bully’s (2nds coach) troops were too good for the Magoos last year but I remember the disappointment on our Coaching ranks faces after the match and I’m positive they’ll be endeavouring to reserve the result today. Last week we celebrated two milestones with Azza Turner playing his 200th MPNFL match & young Bailey Schmidt debut in the seniors after a late call up. This week will see Azza Turner achieve a wonderful feat by playing in his 100th 1st XXII match. Mighty effort mate. Thank you to everyone that got involved in our Player Auction last weekend. We raised $9,800 dollars. Thank you to the mighty job that our very own Auctioneer Andrew Date did on the night. Made it for a very efficient evening for all. Don’t forget that Mother’s Day is on next weekend and thankfully MPNFL Interleague side is playing so you all have no excuses to spoil your mum or wife. More importantly don’t forget our sponsors, Hart & Co. Cam Newbold will be doing a special deal for our players with 25% off all Hampers. But you’ll need to deal with him directly. Otherwise anyone else looking for some fantastic deals you can head to Hart & Co stores are located in following Shopping Centres Eastland Casey Central while Kiosk stores Southland Fountain Gate Frankston Bayside Chadstone.

The Under 19 had a tough day against Langwarrin thanks to the under 17 boys for helping out again and a great effort by Jack, Jacko and Reeves. The reserves boys bounced back after two tough weeks at the office with a hard fought 2 point win against Langwarrin. This week we face an informed Seaford team on there home deck! Huge challenge for a fairly new group of boys. We must have 22 buy in to get the choccies today! The seniors got off to a sluggish start against Langwarrin. A five goal to two third term saw our boys get their noses in front and hold on for the win. The skipper was our best on the day. Huge game against Seaford who are in great form. Go Sharks!

From Where You’d Rather Be... A game of football is an exciting event. Moments that are memories for the ages. Sky scraping hangs, miraculous snaps, barnstorming comebacks, bone crunching tackles and anything else you can think off. Some players can make the impossible look easy, some are just purely spectacular to watch. Droves and droves of interested onlookers flock through the gates week in and week out just to get a glimpse of it all. Parents and partners watching their loved ones have a run around to mates heading down for the weekly chinwags over a beer or two. Heating blasting the car to keep the frost bite away along the fence line to swarms of vocal locals perched on the hill hurling constructive words they hope are heard over the other side of the painted white line. The footy’s a place for everyone and anyone with views from anywhere and everywhere. But…at the end of the day there’s only one place to be to get the perfect view of everything (please note this is from an aesthetic perspective…not referring to the contentious calling of decisions that are always wrong) …and that’s smack bang in the middle with a whistle in one hand. You’re getting a good ol’ chuckle out of that…we can here ya. But think about it, keep an open mind and read on. We’re smack bang in the middle of the action. Could you possibly get any closer? We’re looking straight up at the hangs with no one in our way, hearing the bone crunching bumps, seeing every little intricacy of the aweinspiring miracle makers, hearing the deafening roars of the crowd that send tingles up one’s spine and lining up alongside the all time greats. Could anyone possibly ask for such a privilege? We are at the centre of it all. No the game doesn’t revolve around...even those some of the mugs around struggle to get their head through the change room door. We’re just like a player, club member or spectator...just another small part of a great spectacle that means so much to so many. But who’s got the best seat in the house?
So ask any umpire this weekend where they are when they cross that white line. You’ll only hear one response...”From where you’d rather be...” Guess the umpire In the upcoming weeks, I will be introducing guess the umpire from a photo provided (hopefully baby snaps). I would like some input and some photos for those interested. Get Involved SUA are always on the lookout for those crazy individuals who want to become umpires. It takes a certain type of person to want to umpire, but those people who take the brave step, often benefit greatly from all umpiring offers. Netball Preview Chelsea V Karingal Karingal are now the only undefeated side in the A grade competition and for that effort get a rest this week while their club travels to take on the Seagals.
Seaford V Bonbeach Seaford are at home again this weekend and take on the Sharks. They lost last weekend to the undefeated Bulls by 18 goals while Bonbeach went down to the Roos at Shark Park. Will they bounce back and record a win on the road?
Edi Asp V Frankston YCW Edi Asp suffered a shock loss last week at the hands of the up and coming Doggies while YC recorded their first win of the season against Pines. It is unlikely that the Stonekittens will get their second win in a row and even more unlikely that the Eagles would lose a game to bottom of the ladder YC. Langwarrin V Mt Eliza Langwarrin are going into the match on a winners list and so are the Redlegs after beating Chelsea in a close one by 4 goals. Mt Eliza are on the road for this game and will definitely take it to the Roos at Lloyd Park however it could be a closer match than we think. Pines V Mornington Mornington did what no other team could do in 2016 and beat the Eagles while Pines suffered a loss to winless YCW. The Doggies are at home this week and will definitely be unbeatable after their effort last week.

One court, with a warm up area is a certainty but there is a possibility of two courts as we await the outcome of a meeting this Monday. It’s also good to know that the old trees along Sixth Avenue will not be impacted! Finally, after playing our home games at Frankston, Chelsea & Dingley, our club will have a home! Last week we played Mornington & as expected all games were of a high standard. Our D, C & B girls scored well earned victories but our injury riddled A grade team got pipped by a better team on the day. This week we play YCW at Dingley & once again we’re looking forward to playing some tough, competitive games Our Netballers Luncheon on 27th May is fast approaching. See Wendo or Andrea to secure your place! Good luck to all Eagle teams this weekend! Fly Eagles!!
Chelsea Seagulls A great effort by our D grade today, fighting it out against Mt Eliza – a strong club, second on the ladder. We started off slow with a few mistakes costing us early goals for Mt Eliza in the first half. The girls came out firing after half time to be at one stage down by only 6 in the third quarter. Unfortunately we didn’t come away with a win, but we were proud of our 2nd half. Shout out to Emily and Kellie who we welcomed to our team, both putting up a strong contest against their opponents. Well done to all - we are getting closer to a win every week! C Grade welcomed Eilish as a new player, fitting right in to our team dynamic and demonstrating some great skills through the centre. We did it tough against a talented Mt Eliza team. Kate dominated both ends, defence and goals providing height and strength in rebounds. Unfortunately our goals weren’t converting and confidence dropped. The game was tough but enjoyable and gave us a lot to work on. Best on performances from both Kate and Eilish this week! Our B Grade welcomed the well-oiled machine that is the Mt Eliza squad. All girls should be proud of their efforts. Zoe impressed proving herself as a strong goal shooter. Her rebounds were spot on! Emily played a great game working well in the attacking end with Lisa. Also a special mention to Kate who stepped up onto court when needed!
Pines Pythonettes Last week saw us take on YCW at another away game. With the wind and the rain gracing us with it’s presence we knew it was going to be a tough day outdoors compared to our usual indoor court. All teams struggled to adjust in the wet conditions and therefore didn’t play their natural game. All credit to YCW who were extremely comfortable playing a fast game on the wet courts. All teams need to work on executing their set plays and strategies in all weather conditions in order to be successful throughout the entire season. We look forward to having our new outdoor court finished in the coming weeks so we can work on becoming strong in our outdoor game. This week we take on Mornington at home. Lets hope the girls can bring their A game and we can have a successful day out. Don’t Forget! This week we are celebrating all mums in sport. So join us back in the clubrooms for a few wines and baked goods whilst we watch the ones hopefully grab another win! Awesome mothers day raffle also, so you can win a present or two for mum! All mums at the club are welcome! Go Pythons!

Last week we came up against Pines, and after finally getting off to a good start in the first quarter, the A grade girls managed to secure a win! The group finally clicked and it flowed very well in transition from defence to the attacking end. Well done to the girls from the Pines who fought hard to the end. BOC goes to Bri whose defensive pressure and second efforts resulted in some great turnovers. The B grade team have started the season with 4 wins in yet another absolute team effort. The team buzz on and around the court makes it such a great place to be and playing netball so much more fun. BOC this week goes to captain courageous Katie Schneider for keeping her player out of the game. Next week is sure to be a ripper when we take on top of the ladder - Edi Asp. C grade was another fantastic team effort with everyone playing their pat. In the goal ring accuracy was very high and if they didn’t drop we fought hard for the rebounds. Ring defenders made Pines earn absolutely everything, reading the play beautifully with great foot work to get around the goalers. BOC goes to Loz Treacey for running her butt off all game! Congrats to Renee ‘Bibsy’ Drummond and partner Kevin on the safe arrival of gorgeous Chevy. D grade had an amazing win with defenders. Sophie and Loz only letting Pines score 1 goal the whole game. Some great combinations in the ring with Rachael and Grace rotating really well. BOC goes to Abby for stepping up in centre and backing up everyone on court!
Our Roo girls travelled into Shark territory with one thing on our mind, to win all four matches, and that we did!! D grade kick started our campaign with a tough full court defence and accurate goaling proving too strong for Bonbeach. Goalers Nat and Jess set the standard in the circle and led their team to an impressive win! C grade kept the momentum going with a defiant win. We settled early and took control of the game. Young gun Sophie proved her versatility switching from defence to attack flawlessly, helping our goalers cement the win in an emphatic fashion. Also, determined to keep the winning feeling alive, our B grade girls worked hard to come away with the win. Reliable pocket rocket Madi ran her heart out through the middle without a hint of slowing down, pleasing coach Johno to no end. Backed by a strong defence, our B girls displayed they are combining nicely and will only get stronger and stronger. Last match of the day proved the most competitive. Our A grade got off to a slow start but as the game progressed, they really showed they are a force to be reckoned with! Our strong combination of Kim and Rania in defence caused too many problems for Bonbeach to overcome. Their solid defence earned Kim best on court honours, and really gave our attackers ample opportunities to get the job done and that they did! Next week we meet Mt Eliza at home, which should be a tough but exciting battle. Bring it on! Go Roos!!
Karingal Bullettes All four teams are back on the winners list after a successful trip to Linen House where we met the Tigers. D grade started the day off nicely with our first win. Jess was dominant in the mid court & directed traffic nicely while Nic’s shooting was accurate. C grade had an average game with patches of good play that wasn’t sustained throughout the match. It’s encouraging to come away with a ten goal victory despite the team performance being under par. Tayla Sutton was a stand out as usual. B grade took out our biggest win of the day with an awesome performance. Rachel Mac was on fire early in defense while Breeza and Em didnt let any goaling opportunities go to waste! A grade are now the only undefeated side with their win - Jess unstoppable in goals! We were referred to as a “high quality team with a high quality budget” To all the Karingal Bulls faithful who work so tirelessly to secure netball sponsors & fundraise, who bleed red & white, who ensure that all four teams can train and take the court each week & to our volunteers thank you. Success breeds success. This week we are on the road again, travelling to Chelsea to take on the Seagals. Don’t forget comedy night tonight #gobulls

Round 4 - Bulls v Tiges Unfortunately the bulls saw red against us this week and took home all the chocolates. D grade just keep on improving every week and it’s great to see! C grade were close but no cigar going down but a measly 10. New recruit Mel(ly long legs) killed it in defence! For B grade as the old saying goes “the scoreboard didn’t reflect the game”! But in all seriousness we worked on our game plan and improved as the game went on. A depleted A grade side knew they were up for a big game against the Australian Diamonds but have never done coach Tay so proud. The girls went goal for goal the first half. The defensive pressure had karingal flinging balls to the back wall leaving their coach steaming - the bulls had to put their wet weather gear on for a half time spray. Unfortunately we ran out of legs in the second half but we are extremely happy with our team effort and can’t wait to see what we do with a full side in. Player auctions were a huge success raising much needed funds for the club, no thanks to Foota and her group who didn’t get up $$. 1, 2 and 3 votes go to Bonny being crowned record note queens two weeks in a row

After a disappointing loss to Mt Eliza on ANZAC day the A grade girls were out for atonement against the reigning premiers. Tess C was brilliant through the mid-court and Tess H did an outstanding job keeping Edi-Asp’s strongest player quiet throughout the 1st term. Britt put on a flawless goaling display shooting at 100% and coupled with Sarah the goalers had their best match together so far. Georgia was tenacious yet clever in her work in WD and in the second half Jess worked tirelessly to keep her goaler to only 2 goals for the half. The girls were aptly rewarded for their first full four quarter, all team effort for a historic win by 14 goals. With injuries a plenty the B grade side were up against it from the outset of the match against Edi-Asp. Tayla Pallas filled in on the day and was an asset in the mid-court. Laura supported the defence end well in WD and Vicki had another outstanding match in WA. Lara stepped up well in her first game for the season coming up into B Grade. The girls showed great improvement throughout the match but in the end were not a match for the stronger Edi-Asp side. C Grade made Edi-Asp work hard for the win but countless missed goals throughout the game kept us away from taking home the win. In D Grade Edi-Asp were just a tougher and more experienced side on the day. Best on was Bridget Bell-Towers, although only playing a half, it was a half with impact on the game. Looking forward to this week against Pines Go Doggies Woof Woof

This week we took on Chelsea at Dingley. 3 games were played with A grade having a rest this week. D GRADE have really started to gel as a team & have been playing some fantastic netball, the way they are working the ball up & down the court has been great. Brianna was a strong performer playing at both ends, while Taya has been doing a great job in the mid court. Jade played well in WD this week & the girls walked away with an 11 goal win (37-26). C GRADE have really started to make their mark in the competition & this week was no exception, they secured the win 45-31 for a 4-0 start to the season. Tayla had a great game in goals, while Kate & Lauren did a great job to help the defenders get some much needed tips & intercepts. The defenders are clicking well & making it very hard for the opposition to score which has been great to see.
B GRADE started the game well & looked like they may run away with it in first couple of minutes, however to Chelsea’s credit they came out fired up after quarter time & brought a new level of physicality to the game. Chelsea looked good for the whole game, however the Mounties dug deep in the last quarter, a 9 goal turn around saw us take the win 41-37. This game was a prime example of a team effort with every person contributing to the positive result. Di & Jules were great in defence while Kate M provided some excellent drives from defence to attack. This week we take on Langy at Lloyd Park.
Bonbeach Sharks *to be read to the tune of Bring It All Back* Don’t lob, time your drive, hold your fin high and beat Seaford Let the league see what Bonny have got, watch us shoot them goals T and Em, so strong in D their long-limbed agility. When the pressure’s on down the court, we just smile and watch them flow When Chelsea tried to put us down, we just played our game, didn’t turn around Our B grade smashed their B grade Yes we know it’s true what Lou says; Netball, it ain’t easy But Bonny’s time is coming around So watch us keep hustling! Don’t lob, time your drive, Hold your fin high and beat Seaford. Let the league see what Bonny have got, moving on up the ladder . Dream of sprinting fast, faster than Serena goes in C No opposition can seem too tough, Bring it all back to Bonny Don’t you know it’s true what Hughesy says, Netball is the better sport, And footy is second best!
