MPNFL Updates MPNFL Update Round 6 2017 Welcome back to the 2017 home and away season for both Peninsula FNL and Nepean FNL. We hope that everyone enjoyed the week off (if you had one) and look forward to getting into the guts of the season. Last week was the AFL Victoria Worksafe Community Championships, and the MPNFL headed off to the Melbourne Cricket Ground to take on the Geelong FNL and end their five-year reign of supremacy. Unfortunately, on the day the boys from the other side of the bay proved to be too good and ran away with a 22-point win. It was a great effort from MPNFL boys and they never gave up until the final siren. Bonbeach’s and last year E.V. Shade medallist Shane McDonald won best on ground for the MPNFL. Our ranking has now dropped back to number 3 and we will face the Northern Football League for the 2nd time in two years, after their triumphant 125-point win over the WRFL. Indigenous Round will be celebrated next week throughout the competitions. It is a great week for everyone to look upon and reflect and marvel to what the Indigenous community has bought to the sport at both higher grade and local football and netball. AFL South East Inter League Weekend Inter League weekend didnâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t quite turn out the way we hoped. Both the MPNFL and SEFNL teams went down to their opponents, Geelong and Hampden leagues respectively in closely fought contests. At Casey Fields Jock Holland coached his SEFNL team for the last time against Jonathan Brownâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Hampden League side. It was a see sawing contest, with SEFNL leading into the last quarter however with a shortened bench due to injury Hampden ran over the top to win by 18 points. Congratulations goes to the Hampden League for being too good on the day. We thank the City of Casey and Casey Demons for their support in ensuring the facilities were ready to host our game on short notice. Special thanks to Jock Holland who announced after the SEFNL game that he will no longer be coach of the SEFNL team, after leading the team for 6 years. Until this year Jock had coached his team to 5 straight victories which is a great achievement. Well done and all the best to you Jock. At the MCG, the MPNFL side, coached by John Hynes, suffered from some inaccurate kicking early, with Geelong leading 9.2 to 4.11 at half time. The margin remained fairly constant for much of the last 3 quarters with Geelong FNL running out 22 point winners. While we also congratulate Geelong for their win, I was very impressed with the commitment of the MPNFL players who never gave up at any stage. On behalf of the AFL South East Commission, I would like to thank the players who represented their leagues last weekend as well as those who were part of the squads over the past couple of months. You all proudly wore the League jumpers and performed well. We appreciate the commitment you all made.

For the MPNFL, the loss means we drop to third ranking league in the State, and a meeting with the fourth ranked Northern in 2018. A win then will get us back to the Championship Final the following year. This week we return to a full round of fixtures across our 3 senior football competitions, with some very interesting top of the table clashes that will go some way to end of season positions. In SEFNL Beaconsfield (2nd) host Doveton (3rd) in an important game for both clubs. In the Peninsula League, finals aspirants Bonbeach and Edi Asp face challenges at Frankston YCW and Mt Eliza. Can Chelsea win 3 games in a row when they take on Langwarrin at Lloyd Park? Several matches in Nepean may lay claim to match of the round. That status may go to Red Hill who will be able to test their finals credentials against reigning premier Hastings. I look forward to being at Mornington v Seaford, where the home club will commemorate the 125th anniversary of the day 15 young Mornington footballers lost their lives in a boating disaster returning from a match at Mordialloc on 21 May 1892. AFL Vic Country 2018 COMMUNITY CHAMPIONSHIPS RANKINGS RELEASED AFL Victoria has released the official rankings for the 2018 WorkSafe AFL Victoria Community Championships following a successful 2017 competition on May 13. Thirty-two community football leagues have been assigned new nominal rankings following their participation in its 2017 Championships, which saw the best senior players from across Victoria go head-to-head in a one off interleague match. Geelong Football Netball League remains the number one ranked community football league in Victoria after defeating Mornington Peninsula Nepean Football League by 22-points at the MCG. The Eastern Football League remains the best metropolitan league in Melbourne following its two point win over the Essendon District Football League in a thriller at Bayswater. Eastern FL moves up to second place in the 2018 rankings and will face Geelong FNL for the top-ranking, while MPNFL will slip to third and face the Northern FL (fourth) after its win over Western Regional FL. Rounding out the top ten ranking positions are Essendon DFL (fifth), Ovens & Murray FL (sixth), Western Region FL (seventh), Ballarat FNL (eighth), Goulburn Valley FNL (ninth) and Hampden FNL (tenth). The 2018 rankings list does not provide a likely schedule of matches for 2018, with leagues given the opportunity to opt-in or withdraw from the competition each season. Final entries for participation in the 2018 season are not requested by AFL Victoria until November, which allows leagues sufficient time to decide whether they wish to participate in the competition the following year. Football Preview SEAGULLS EYEING THREE ON THE BOUNCE by Simon McEvoy CHELSEA will try to make it three successive wins for the first time since 2011 when it tackles bottom-placed LANGWARRIN in Peninsula league this afternoon. Brett Dunne’s Seagulls have played with spirit in recent weeks to emerge as a potential top-five contender. They stunned the highly-rated Mt Eliza by six points to snap an 18-game losing streak in Round 4 and then followed up with a gritty three-point win over Karingal. The Seagulls have taken flight in recent weeks and a win over Langwarrin would have them knocking on the door of the five. James Brain, Simon Mitchelhill, Daly Shannon, Curtis Bywater, Todd Gardiner and Jack Francis have fuelled Chelsea’s resurgence. Chelsea has struggled in recent years - last season it won only two games and finished with the wooden spoon. But the tide is turning. Langwarrin (0-5) has struggled to be competitive this season and its highest score has been 56 points. It’s crunch time for MORNINGTON when it faces SEAFORD at the kennel. The Bulldogs (1-4) have lost three games in a row to drop to second-bottom and their last round effort – when they kicked only one goal – was described as putrid by coach Chris Holcombe. Their response today could determine their season. If they are to resurrect their hopes they’ll need to get cracking. Seaford, conversely, is riding the crest of a wave; a fourgame winning streak has propelled the Tigers to second spot and they are being talked about as contenders for the first time in years. Former Coburg star Damien Rayson has hit his straps in recent weeks, while Dean Williamson is having a fine season. Rourke Fischer is another talented player fuelling the Tigers’ charge. MT ELIZA will be out to post consecutive wins for the first time this season when it tackles EDI-ASP at Madsen Reserve. Two rounds ago the Redlegs suffered a surprise loss to Chelsea, but they hit back last round to dispatch Langwarrin by 45 points. Troy Shannon’s side is yet to hit top gear but a win today could be the spark it needs. Ben Landry, Jay Neratzoglou, Rohan Heasley and Harper Leonard have been consistent performers, while star forward Justin Van Unen, with 13 goals in five games, will be keen to kick a big bag. Edi-Asp’s form has been patchy, although they’ve had a difficult draw. The Eagles flashed home to beat Mornington two rounds ago and then pushed Frankston

YCW last round, with Steve Mannix, Craig Wray, and Brendan Neville continuing their solid form. KARINGAL will be out to halt a four-game slide when it hosts third-placed PINES at Frankston Park. The Bulls will need to find another gear, though, because Pines (4-1) is running hot and looking every inch a flag contender. The Pythons have strength on every line. Their starstudded forward line, led by Tim Bongetti and Aaron Edwards, is often spoken about but their backline is the best in the comp. Pines has in-form players galore, including Nick Boswell, Lachlan Marshall and Corey Ash. Edwards will enjoy being back at Frankston Park, where he booted a century of goals with the Dolphins in a sensational 2006 season. FRANKSTON YCW’s unbeaten stretch is up to 13 games – including five straight wins this season. Today, the Stonecats meet top-five aspirant BONBEACH in an interesting battle. Bonbeach has the talent to serve it up to YC, with former AFL man Trent Dennis-Lane, the mercurial Shane McDonald, interleague players Jackson Casey and Dylan Jones and the impressive Owen Hulett. But YCW seems to get the job done every week, with the likes Kyle Hutchison, Scott MacLeod, Kev Lylak and Paul Minchington playing good footy. Josh Butland and Luke Paynter have been good up forward and young ruckman Macklin Raine had his best game for the club last round.

Football Preview PYTHONS ON THE UP IN THE RESERVES… An in-form PINES has won three of its past four games to climb to fourth spot and today the Pythons have the chance to cement their spot when they face winless KARINGAL. Lee Hearnden, Jake Berry, Jayden Goldsmith and Majok Puok have been playing good footy. Undefeated MT ELIZA hosts EDI-ASP coming off two straight losses. Michael Cleary and Matt Pascazio have been impressive for the Redlegs. FRANKSTON YCW will look to consolidate its spot in the five when it hosts seventh-placed BONBEACH (2-3). LANGWARRIN is trying to halt a four-game slide when it meets CHELSEA, which will rely on the in-form Charles Ryan-Orchard and Stuart Brooke. On a four-game winning streak, SEAFORD is playing with confidence and will be tough to beat against MORNINGTON. James Herbert, Ben Duffield and Taka Tohiariki continue to play slick footy for the Tigers. STONECATS SIZZLING IN THE UNDER 19s… FRANKSTON YCW has been untouchable in the opening five games, kicking plenty of goals and conceding very few. A total of only 94 points has been scored against the Stonecats. Today, YC takes on eight-placed BONBEACH. LANGWARRIN has won four on the spin to sit in second spot and the Kangaroos showed admirable fight to get past Mt Eliza last round. Today, they face a CHELSEA side that has suffered several heavy defeats. SEAFORD has looked impressive in recent weeks, climbing to fifth spot. The Tigers face seventh-placed MORNINGTON. EDI-ASP set the pace early on but has dropped its past two games. The Eagles face MT ELIZA in a crucial thirdversus-fourth battle. KARINGAL improved its record to 3-2 and with a sizzling win last round and should go on with it against winless PINES.

First of all bad luck to the InterLeague team who went down to Geelong by 22 points. Congrats to our reps Bysa, Onger, Laffa, Hutch, Mincho and Scooter. Today we welcome Bonbeach to the Coburn Oval. No easy games these days and the Sharks are up and about again and in the top 5. Watching on are our Past Players for their annual get together - have a great day guys. It seems an eon ago but last week we travelled to EdiAsp and came away with three victories. Hutcho’s lads fielded a strong team in a danger game and ran away after 1/4 time to win well. Josh Berenger was best along with Callen Gregory whilst Lachie (4) and Gus relished being back with their mates. Murph’s Magoos put last week behind them and recorded a good 4 goal victory. Sam Pickess, Jack Matthews and Pat Davenport were best and Nick King continued his consistent form. In a even game the Numeros got on top and recorded a 34 point victory. Kyle Hutch was grand and Mack Raine had his best game since joining us. Kev and BJ saw plenty of the Sherrin. The Netballers shared the prize with Edi-Asp – you can read more about it in their notes On May 27 (the Langy game) the Netballers are having their annual Ladies Day fundraiser from 1.00pm to 5.00pm. Club Notes The week off had everyone refreshed and ready to go for the next blocks of games and achievable goals set by the coaches. Well done to 5 boys in the interleague final squad, great experience to be running around on the G and playing the states best. Before the bye we hosted Mornington in 3 spirited affairs. The seniors were convincing winners against a team that has troubled us in the past. Best players were Bozza, Fartyâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s young boy, Ashy and Chewy. Reserves in a top 5 clash came out firing kicking the first 5 goals of the game to win by that margin. Players to shine were youngsters Goldy, Rhys,Planey and evergreen Tassie. More players to return so training a must. Unders fought well against a good doggies outfit and improving every week.. better pythons were Bezzene,Nicholls, Pusch and Griff. Smith, J. Allan, A. Collins, M. Peynenborg ( 4 goals another good effort Matty ) Our Reserves and Seniors both struggled to post a competitive score , despite matching it up against Mt. Eliza at times in general play. Today represents a real chance for us to turn our season around in the seniors and if we can go some way to converting our onfield intensity and effort into a competitive score on the board it can be hoped that we can come away with 3 wins. After a very long pre season and a solid start it was good to have the weekend off. Round 5 was a good day for the the Footy Club with both the Senior sides posting good wins. The Unders had a tuff day again playing short and the break couldn’t come quick enough for them. Positive signs though with more players being available from this week. Boy’s, get behind Mark Knowles and Stretch in the coming weeks and I’m sure there are more wins just around the corner. Stevies Two’s are playing well and no doubt they can be in the mix moving forward if everyone buy’s in and makes the commitment to get to training and do the hard yards. 2 wins from the last 3 starts and winable games coming up. Carn’t stress enough this week Lad’s that the Seniors v’s Lang’y this week could be a defining moment for the Club as we try to win 3 in a row for the first time since 2011. Away from the Club and also being involved directly with Brett i am amazed at the amount of effort and time he is devoting to the cause. Our new players and support staff are all making good contributions and no doubt the signs are there that if we turn up we can win any game. Also want to thank the Junior mums and dads that are fronting up to the games. Great to see Jack and Curtis coaching the kids last week. Today we welcome the Seaford FNC to the kennel on this important weekend, where we commemorate the 125th Anniversary of the 15 Young Mornington Footballers who lost their lives in a boating disaster returning from a match against Mordialloc Football Club on the 21st May 1892. Today we will wear black armbands and will have minute silence before the Senior game. On Sunday we ask that all our club members to head down to the memorial at the end of Main Street at 2pm for a ceremony put on by the Mornington Historical Society. Also today is our “Red” Day with half the gate proceeds going to the Red Shield Appeal, so please give generously to the Salvo’s who do a great job in our community. Now to football and there was not much to celebrate last round other than the 19’s who had a solid win. We won’t say much as a lot has already been said over the past week, we move on & come out today with a positive attitude to take on a good side like Seaford. Congratulations to “ The Millers”, Joel & Warwick, who represented the MPNFL on Saturday at the MCG in interleague against Geelong FL. They both played well with Joel kicking a goal. Inaccurate kicking for goal hurt the MPNFL, particularly in the first half when it missed 10 of its first 13 shots, but the GFL’s class shone through as it prevailed 16.9 (105) to 11.17 (83). Firstly commiserations to the MPNFL & Coach Hynsey from the weekend. It was pleasing to see the league give it the attention it deserved though but now I hope to see they pay the same amount respect to our talented Netball players on the Peninsula. Back to Rd5 & what a very satisfying result we had v Sharks. The first time of the year we got 7 from 7! A very satisfied Prez. To top it off we got to unveil the #Rettes VWFL Flag on the Sunday (7th May) in front of a bigger crowd than the Mens game on Saturday. It’s been a mighty effort from the #Rettes Prez and her cronies. Heading into today’s matches and the break couldn’t have come quick enough for our Senior side. 3 different runners in 5 weeks! Coach Murph has been ruthless on them but hopefully the weeks rest give them all enough time to get fit again. Hope today has been a success for Mornington FNC on the 125th Anniversary Luncheon of the “Fifteen Young Men” story. Such a Tragic Event masterfully written by our very own, Paul Kennedy. Ps. Welcome to the Edi-Asp FNC today for what shapes up as 3 good contests. We also welcome our guests to the Pizza & Pinot Day – We hope you enjoy the afternoon. Congrats to Sam Gill & Brett O’Hanlon who represented the MPNFL at the MCG last Saturday. A fortnight ago we took on Langwarrin away. The U/19’s got off to a slow start, trailing by 3 goals at 1/4 time. We could bridge the 3 or 4 goal break fir the remainder of the game, although we kicked the first couple of the last to give us a sniff, but they kicked the last 3 to win by 33 points. Better players were Cal, Ben McKenzie, Housey, Zane, Hawk & Ben Farish. Need to bounce back today fellas! The Reserves dominated early and led 5.4 to nil at 1/4 time, however the goals dried up for both sides after 1/4 time, with the Redlegs kicking 4 goals to 1 to win with 19 scoring shots to 3. Stricko (Nick) booted 3 and better players were Michael (2) & Chris Cleary, Goodall, Harry, Ricey & Matty Paz. The Club wishes another Cleary (Anthony) all the best in his recovery after seriously injuring his knee v Chelsea. Congrats to Damien & Meagan Kent on the recent arrival of their 3rd child Emerson Rose. The Seniors started well with a 4.2 to 0.3 opening term, but an inaccurate 2nd saw us kick 1.6 but we kept the opposition to just 0.2 They kicked 3 goals to 1 in the 3rd before a strong 5 goal to 1 last qtr saw us home by 45 points. Jimmy Freeman, in a welcome return booted 4 to be amongst the best, along with Nath Ryan, Jay, Harps, Shane Tennant & Jimmy Anwyl. Congrats to Jimmy Anwyl on his 100th Game today. We Have Skills…Allegedly… Skills – something a lot of people claim to have but are clearly mistaken. Different between normal people and umpires – there is at least a remote possibility that a normal person has a skill. Umpires have absolutely no chance. Yes, please note that we are not including umpires in the realm of normal people. Well at least that’s what we all thought. But delve a little deeper and you’ll realise that field umpires at least have one skill. Just one, but at least it’s one. Ask an umpire to bounce next time you decide to be charitable and chin wag with one. Even if it going 15 metres to their left and only one foot off the ground it still classifies as a bounce and therefore…the umpire has a skill. The Bounce was introduced to league football all the way back in 1887. Initially just to start each quarter it only took 4 short years for field umpires to be smacking the ball into the turf at every opportunity. And with a much poorer quality of grounds at the time they’d make specialists in today’s game. An absolute bucket load of things then happened in the following 122 years; Coca-Cola produced its first bottle, the first modern Olympic Games in Athens, the Commonwealth of Australia was created (long overdue), Mr Booth invented the vacuum cleaner resulting in more reports of missing marbles than ever before, Crayola introduced crayons (at the cost of white walls all the world over), Hitler suffered little man syndrome, a couple of guys took a quick holiday to the moon, the Wiggles succeeded in their attempt for World rule and a few other things occurred that are too deep for article. But all the while field umpires continued to totter over to a pack, kindly request access to the football and slam the footy into the deck hoping for just enough height to clear the hands of the 145cm ruckman who were enjoying a quiet chinwag while the poor umpire was looking down.

122 years is a damn long time for the system to stay the same (unfortunately football reverted back to its original setup in 2013 and umpires only had 4 opportunities a game to show off their real skill). These days a rule struggles to last 12 months before someone finds an issue. Of course there’s been some changes in technique. Think back to the 1920s and 30s when the silly bugger would swing the ball single-handedly into the turf reminiscent of a Shaun Tait fire bolt. Later on they even squatted and punched the ball into the ground. Naturally it didn’t work at all. Must’ve been wearing iron fists too. One day the bounce may be no more. And then we’ll evoke memories of the days when an umpire would break their own nose or send our oddly shaped ball into oblivion hoping not to send it through the goals and bounce the winning score. But most of all, we’ll remember the times when there was a lighter side to umpiring and the thing that allowed us our genuine 10 seconds of fame. Netball Preview Frankston YCW V Bonbeach YCW are 7th on the ladder and take on the 8th placed Sharks at Jubilee Park in what will be an evenly matched game. Bonbeach have one win on the board and will be looking to gain a second today when they travel to Frankston. Karingal V Pines Karingal welcome the Pythons to the Bullpit and are currently undefeated whilst Pines are yet to notch up a win. The Pythons are to be commended for fielding their A grade side during their re-build and they have a tough task today against the Bulls. Langwarrin V Chelsea The Roos are sitting in 5th place on the ladder and get a rest for a second week in a row whist their B, C & D grade girls welcome the Seagals to Lloyd Park Mornington V Seaford Mornington are 3rd on the ladder and take on 4th placed Seaford at home. Mornington have done what no other team have done this season and knocked off the Eagles while Seaford have had some great results on the board. This game will certainly be a nail biter.

Netball Notes Edithvale - Aspendale Eagles

The Legends Round 6 v Mt Eliza. This week we take on one of our toughest rivals, Mt Eliza and will need to be at our top to do our Club legends proud. Thanks to Kevin, Kenny, Gavin, Gasha,Terry, Steve, Peter, Billy and Larry. If you do want to know about the history of our great club, get down to the rooms on Friday afternoon and join in, all are welcome. The morale and financial support of our legends is what can I say ‘legendary’. Last week in wet and windy conditions on we took on Frankston YCW and whilst both clubs had players missing, the quality of netball was outstanding. We finished up with two a piece, with Edi coming out on top in A in a hard fought battle, with Nicole Taylor outstanding in defence, Our B Grade girls in a tight game went down despite storming home from 10 down to lose by 1, Great game Zoe. In C grade, YC were simply too good on the day with Julia having a great game. The development team was great to watch in the best of the conditions and earned a well deserved win with Aysha strong the entire game. As a club we still have some work to do. Thanks to our scorers Gail and Louise who got to sit in the wind and rain during our games, we could not do it without you. Today we make the trip to Mt Eliza and if you wish to watch some high quality competitive games between 2 great clubs get down and support our girls. Good luck to all Eagles playing this weekend. Frankston YCW StoneKittens Sticking with traditions, last round we came up against Edi Asp on another wet and miserable day. The A grade girls got off to a good start against the reigning premiers, however with a few players down this week, Edi proved to be too strong and ran away with the game in the end. Well done to our girls for continuing to fight until the end in very trying conditions. The B grade girls had a thrilling win and now sitting on the top of the ladder. The first 3/4s were everything we could have asked for with a hunger for the ball and a strong defensive game. The foot came off the accelerator in the final quarter and we took time to adjust to the weather and the changes made by Edi. Best on goes to Ash with fantastic shooting accuracy, brilliant driving and amazing defensive arms. The C grade girls had an amazing win with pressure applied over the ball relentless for 4 quarters. The reset and our patience feeding the ball in paid off and our mid court worked their butts off creating plenty of turnovers. BOC goes to Jamie for a super effort running a full game in centre and smashing it. D grade game had an amazing second half, however we were unable to make up the ground that was lost in the first half. We adjusted for the wind a little too much with the shooting and the accuracy wasn’t as high as previous weeks but our defensive pressure all the way down the court to cause turnover after turnover was a real positive for the game. BOC goes to Abbey for ripping it apart in centre.

Chelsea Seagulls Round 5 saw a very close D grade game against Karingal. We didn’t come away with the win but the girls fought hard to the end. The game has given us plenty to work on at training in the next couple of weeks and hopefully after the AFL Vic Championships we can come away with our first win. To Georgia and Awa - excellent job on your amazing defensive pressure and rebounds in the ring. Good work girls! The C Grade girls impressed, winning two of the four quarters against Karingal. Unfortunately our third quarter was disappointing, Karingal extended their lead and the girls were left with a hard task in the fourth. Hannah was welcomed in and starred through the centre, earning her a best on performance. B grade got off to a slow start in the first quarter giving Karingal an early lead. Too many unforced errors and failure to capitalise on turnovers made it too difficult to fight back. We have a lot of things to work on if we want to keep pushing the top sides. Kattie put up a fight in defence taking intercepts and creating turnovers earning her the Side Street best on voucher! Well done Karingal - we look forward to improving and matching up again later in the season.

Netball Notes Langwarrin Kangaroos We welcomed Mt Eliza to Roo land this week, knowing it would be a tough and challenging encounter. Our D grade girls kept their winning streak alive with a convincing 6 goal win. Jess K scored herself best on court honours for the second week in a row, putting out a stellar performance on court and helping her team take 2nd position on the ladder. Next up, C grade battled it out. It was a brutal game, that was ours for the taking. We made Mt Eliza earn every goal with tough one on one defence, but unfortunately we were unable to come away with the win, going down by a measly 2 goals. B grade took the court as rain clouds were getting darker. The combination of Johno and Madi through the middle proved problematic for Mt Eliza, but it wasn’t enough to secure the win. We went down by 12 goals but many positives were taken from the game. A grade was lucky enough to start as the weather finally changed and the rain began to fall. Slippery and wet courts didn’t slow down our girls, as they adjusted well to the changing conditions. Our attack end worked tirelessly to feed our goalers with precision, earning Zoe BOC for her tenacious efforts. We came away with a 9 goal win, making it 2 wins and 2 losses for the day. These results are proving that all our hard work and dedication is paying off and makes for very exciting weeks to come. After the rest, we will look forward to taking on Chelsea at home in what will be another competitive encounter. Go Roos!!

Mornington Bulldogs

Hope all the Mum’s had a lovely Mother’s day last weekend. 2 weeks ago we travelled to Pines and came home with 4 solid wins. D Grade started the day with a great team effort with a 46-18 win. Our defenders had lots of turnovers resulting in lots of opportunity for our goalers. C Grade again was a solid team effort winning 59-14. We have quite a few young girls in our sides, and for some it’s their first year against bigger harder hitting bodies and that can be a little off putting. But the girls are certainly rising to the challenge and are improving each week. B Grade had their 1st win of the season with a 48-34 win. They had several errors early allowing Pines to get the jump on them but settled down & started to play good netball. Great game by Laura Noonan, hard to stop through the defensive end and dictating play out of defence, showing her leasdership and patience. A Grade side started slowly against Pines but by half time exerted their dominance winning 51-30. Sarah Pike was a welcome inclusion to the team in goals while at the other end Jess Gordon really stepped up her defensive pressure. Carli Rickman and Sophie Baker stepped up to play their first stint in A grade for the season and fitted in superbly well. Britt Archdeacon was dominant in goals with a best on performance. Back home today against Seaford and looking for another great day of Netball. Go Doggies WOOF WOOF

Mt Eliza Red Legs

ROUND 5 saw us travel to wind, wet & slippery Langwarrin. It’s always a tough match against the roos, but the battle against the pouring rain & slippery courts made things a whole lot more interesting. D GRADE got off to a slow start & were not used to the physicality that Langy brought to the game. The pressure applied was too much for our girls to handle resulting in many turnovers. Although they had a good last quarter the Roos took the win 27-21. Brianna & Krystal showed excellent versatility switching between goals & defence. C GRADE had a great game with some fantastic passages of play, this week was a good lesson in the value of sticking to the game plan in order to achieve success. After a few sloppy passages the girls pulled themselves together well to walk away with the win 40-38. Karen Russo shot well as did Tayla. B GRADE had a tough battle on their hands against a very physical Langy side. Although majority of the game was quite close the girls really put their foot down in the last quarter to win by 12 goals (30-42). Di had a great game in defence & we saw Kate M help out this week also, putting on an impressive performance. Another win under the belt has given B grade some good confidence going into the next 2 games. A GRADE went into the match under manned but put on a good performance. With many girls playing their second game for the day they got within 2 goals I at 3/4 time but just didn’t had the legs going down 31-40. After the break we take on Edi-Asp!!!

Netball Notes Karingal Bullettes

Seaford Tigers

The playing group is refreshed after a weekend off with the bye. Our last game we traveled down to Dingley to play Chelsea in very cold wet and windy conditions…. not ideal. B managed to get a good start to the game which put us in a great position for the rest of the game. We used many different combinations throughout the day and they all proved to be successful. Michelle proved to be a stand out in the defensive ring picking off many intercepts and rebounds. Emily proved once again to be a force in our attacking circle with just to much class and knowledge. Best on for the day was Bridget who took complete control of our mid court and is just so composed under pressure. We managed to bridge a gap of around 5 goals per quarter and I do believe this would have been higher in better weather conditions. Overall a great job done by all involved and we won by around 20 goals. A great game in horrible conditions. C had a tight game winning by 4 goals. Great effort by Mel, Elise and Sara in defense they were all unbeatable! With our little pocket rocket Tay in C and Julia getting pushed around all game you both showed extreme sportsmanship by keeping it together for the team. D Grade did a great job missing both our captain and vice Captain Kelly stepped up and led the team.Our whole defense end kept the Chelsea goalers at bay which allowed our center court to bring the ball down and feed our goalers well. Great job to Nic and Briony for landing goals in the wind! #GOBULLS

Winning the game coz we’re strong and zealous Tans on point, YC get jealous Let’s go sharkeys, jubilee parkey, Dresses tightly clad and showin’ bloomer, Emma D walks past ‘n’ YC wish they could be her, But they’re sittin’ on the bench like they were Poindexter Bonbeach function, fish ‘n’ chip munchin’ Kirsty tried to dance, and her knee malfunctioned. Music comes on and the boys won’t dance, But then some footy team wins and Soley split his pants! Zoe’s table walkin’, James starts gawking, Joey’s at the bar and to Alison he starts talkin’. Lowey wants to dance cause he likes to groove, So come on Shark Park ‘n’ bust a move!

Round 5 - Tiges v Sharks Four from four here us roar! Or should I say 7 from 7! GO TIGES! The girls certainly were up and about this week with strong performances across the board. Notable mention to the C girls with a 26 point victory, B grade who got their first win for the year and Hosko for her debut netball match as a tiger. Votes this week: 3 - Rach: for questioning who lost when told we got 7 club wins from 7. 2- Chels and Sarah for having more arse than class. (However I tip my hat for going in hard and hitting the decks more than netballer ever in the history of netball) 1 - Tayla - for leaving the record notes until 9.25 every Tuesday morning..

Pines Pythonettes Last week saw us take on Mornington, using Monterey Secondary College for hopefully the last time. D Grade, saw a huge improvement from the previous weeks and although they didn’t come away with the win, they came off the court extremely happy with their performance. Skills that they have been working hard on at training were starting to show and movement around the court was much more seamless. Shakaia dominating in the C position earned herself Best on Court for the week. C Grade struggled with many players out this round and special thanks to some girls for filling in for a second game. Hopefully with a full team back this week we can see some improvement! Ashlee running all day in C and having a brilliant game earnt her a second Best on Court for the season. B Grade have injected some new players into the side and are beginning to combine as a team and show some extremely promising signs. Newcomer Ayla showing the girls how its done down in defence with her long arms and loud talk all game. Such a welcomed addition to the team! A Grade had an extremely physical game with quite a few bumps and bruises after the game. First half saw an extremely close match, however. Mornington was able to run away with it in the second half. One shining light was Brierley in goals who didn’t seem to miss a goal from anywhere! This week will see an extremely tough round against Karingal. We hope to step up our game and hopefully cause some upsets! Go Snakes!
