Bendigo Community Bank MPNFL Update Round 8 2017 Welcome to round 8 of the 2017 home and away season for both Peninsula FNL and Nepean FNL. We are now well and truly into the thick of the season with the ladder’s in both football and netball taking shape. Should be interesting come final time! This week is Quit Challenge Round. AFL South East Junior and Senior Football Clubs help support Smoke-Free environments through the upcoming Quit Challenge Round on June 3 and 4. AFL South East Region General Manager said “AFL SE is committed to working with both Junior and Senior Clubs to create healthy sporting environments. The willingness of the clubs to work collaboratively with Peninsula Health on these positive initiatives will have a long-lasting impact on local clubs. Next weekend is the Queen’s Birthday long weekend. There will be 3 stand alone games across the weekend in total between the Peninsula and Nepean leagues. So if you are having the weekend off, please enjoy and stay safe if you are traveling anywhere. A reminder that we have also officially moved to Frankston Park, in the old gaming venue. Vale - Paul Williams Every football/netball club has that person who is the larger than life constant. The passionate face A RoadSafe Victoria of the club. Paul ‘Bud’ Williams was initiative one of thosesupported by VicRoads and VCFL great characters at the Pines Football/Netball Club, who sadly passed away last week after a long term of illness. Big Bud was a gentle man that would make everyone welcome at his club. He was a friend of the competition who put great effort into maintaining the history of clubs. Paul assisted the league and fellow club historians to create and maintain a database of what had been achieved over the years of Peninsula football in all its forms. Paul was a player, at Pines in the 60s and early 70s who went on to have 5 decades with the Pines club in many roles of the committee. Paul was well known for his good humour and writing, scribing for the record under the pseudonym ‘The Last Bud’ for many years. TLB took a lighter side view of game day so that readers had some fun, even if the team results weren’t good.

Bendigo Community Bank FOOTBALL FACILITY FUNDING AVAILABLE Football and netball clubs in regional Victoria and on the metropolitan fringe can now apply for funding to rejuvenate their sports facilities through the Country Football Netball Program. Through the program, the Victorian Government has teamed up with AFL, AFL Victoria and Netball Victoria to fund a range of facility developments for country football and netball clubs across the state. This new round continues the great work of helping regional clubs, and clubs on the metropolitan fringe, who may be struggling with outdated, over-used or weatherdamaged facilities. Grants of up to $100,000 are available for projects that improve facilities, including change room overhauls, replacement of drought-affected turf, and installation of court lighting.

The Community Sports Infrastructure Fund has a range of different categories, some of which include: • Major Facilities – Grants of up to $650,000 are available to develop or upgrade major district and regional sport and recreation facilities • Minor Facilities – Grants of up to $100,000 for any one project are available for community sport and recreation groups, working in partnership with local government, to develop or upgrade community sport and recreation facilities. • Female Friendly Facilities – Grants of up to $100,000 are available to build new and upgrade existing, outdated change facilities that cater for female sport, with a focus on promoting female and family friendly environments. Since 2005, the Country Football Netball Program has kicked in over $23 million to more than 460 projects. This has delivered much needed infrastructure upgrades and given clubs the infrastructure they need to grow. AFL Victoria CEO Steven Reaper has urged eligible football and netball clubs to apply for funding through their local councils. “This program has been incredibly effective in assisting clubs to upgrade and modernise their facilities. As participation in the game continues to grow, so does the need for facilities to support not only the growth, but the changing profile of participation.”

Football Preview Hillmen need to prove a point By Toe Punt Without question the match of the day today in Nepean Division is between Red Hill and Sorrento up at the Showgrounds. The Hillmen simply need to prove a point today. Surely themselves they’re getting sick of the tag “good side but not quite good enough”! There’s no bigger test right now than Sorrento. Red Hill bounced back from a disappointing defeat (against Hastings at home) last week, smashing Pearcedale by over 100 points. The Dales might not be travelling that well but a 100-plus point win at Tractor Park is pretty good going. Sorrento is coming off some dominant form which we highlighted last week – an average winning margin of well over 100 points in its previous five games before facing Somerville. The Sharks got the job done last week but it wasn’t convincing. The Eagles pressed high and played man on man and it seemed to work. Sorrento couldn’t get its running game going early and actually had three less scoring shots than the opposition in the first half. Problem for Somerville was that they couldn’t sustain the relentless pressure for four quarters. The Eagles let their guard down in the third quarter and Sorrento responded with 15 scoring shots and 7.8 to turn an 11-point half

time lead into an almost 10-goal buffer. Somerville outscored Sorrento in the last, five goals to three. This has got to be good news for Red Hill. One could argue that Somerville had the better of Sorrento for three quarters. The bad news for Red Hill is if they let their guard down for any period, the opposition will blow them away! Sorrento’s midfield depth is as good as its been in years with Tapscott, Treeby, Hallahan, Burns and Gladman doing the bulk of the work in there, while its forward half of Corp, Dawes and Poholke is the most dangerous in the comp. In defence, Red Hill might be able to expose them there. Ryan Potter is likely to come back for the Sharks this week but they will miss Brigden (hamstring). This leaves a lot of the work to Paxton, while Stephenson will take the most dangerous small forward (likely to be Jono Ross or Danny Allsop). Head and Schwarze like to attack from half back, as opposed to defend. Hallahan is the same when he’s down there. The beauty of these three though is they all read the play so damn well. Red Hill simply must stay composed and maintain the pressure for four quarters. It can’t afford to be fumbly, unsure of themselves or lacking intensity. The Hillmen can match the Sharks in the middle and should have the upper hand in attack. Somerville proved that getting the ball into the forward half quickly can unsettle and separate the Sorrento defence.

Football Preview The match-ups in Red Hill’s defence will be interesting. For mine, Siverson goes to Corp, Mock to Dawes and Pete Dal Lago to Poholke. Dawes is quick and it would be dangerous to put the obvious choice in Wallace onto him. It’s difficult to tip Red Hill. It faced a massive test against Hastings two weeks ago and was so far off the mark. It lost to Bombers at home too. However, on the flipside, it beat Rosebud at Rosebud. A good side Red Hill? – we’ll find out at 5pm today just how good! SOMERVILLE simply must bounce back against DROMANA. The Eagles let themselves down in just one quarter last week but it was enough to lose badly. It’s not the only time this season the Eagles have let themselves down in one quarter of footy. Bevan Malloy is coaching them well – they are well structured. There’s a few players not up to the level they have been previously and they know who they are. The likes of Allsop, Speedy and Westerman have been outstanding all season, everyone wants Kane McKenzie in their side and they’ve uncovered a real player in young ruckman Matt Harris. Dromana has been superb in the past two weeks. It’s not easy beating Crib at the nest but they did it in fine style. Dromana must be a real chance but at home it’s hard to go past the Eagles.

Football Preview RYE will be looking at back-to-back victories when it hosts CRIB POINT this Saturday at RJ Rowley Reserve. The young Demons were sensational last week and played its first four quarter game – they proved to themselves that if they can deliver for 120 minutes, they can be competitive right to the end. The Magpies reached a new low last week – losing a game it simply shouldn’t have at home. HASTINGS will be seething from last week’s ordinary performance against Rosebud and will come out blazing against PEARCEDALE today. The Panthers too reached a new low, completely embarrassed in front of their own supporters last week. One senses that whilst it is unlikely to be a 100-point loss, it will be more than 10 goals. The final two games will be one-sided affairs. ROSEBUD was ruthless last week and it needs to be again today against TYABB. Opposition has been racking-up big scores against the Yabbies and in a season where percentage is going to play such a big role, the Buds need to get a bit of it! FRANKSTON BOMBERS missed out on their chance for percentage against Tyabb last week. Today they host DEVON MEADOWS. They were worrying signs last week for the Meadows being well beaten by Rye. Depth was always going to be an issue and while the top liners have been superb, it’s hard to sustain for 18 rounds.

The senior game was a bit scrappy in the blustery conditions & our goal kicking still needs improving!!!! Skin was great again with excellent support from Kitch & Dale as we banked the 4 points. Reality check for Travies boys as we dropped a winnable game. Great to see Brett Sutton back after injury and in the best alongside Junior Batty who is playing well week in and out. Aaron kicked 3 goals but I need him in the best players to write that Best was the best. The Unders started slowly but going with 11 goals after half time. Jake with 5 goals was a great target up forward as he got great service from our running backs & midfield. The Bombers have been helping our junior footy partners @ Frankston Rovers with training nights at Greg Beck Oval. The Rovers under 11’s did a session with us last week & the other Rovers teams will visit shortly. The Boys are a pleasure to help & our aim is to assist in their football development as they grow up to become next generation Bombers. Enjoy your day at the local footy and Go Bombers

Happy Birthday Devon Meadows Football Club! Turning 40 years old, lets make it a night to remember back at the clubrooms this evening. $15 on the door, entertainment all night long, should be a great atmosphere so get around it and support your club! Mum’s not giving us the day off school just because it’s our birthday though, so we find ourselves just down the road in Baxter as we take on the Frankston Bombers. A great venue to watch football, so enjoy the day and stick around for a drink after the game as the Bomber faithful will be returning the favour when they come to visit us in Round 17. Mixed results last week saw the Reserves get up for a much deserved win while the seniors had a disappointing effort against a spirited Rye. The seconds have been cracking in all year but with low numbers it has made for tough going trying to get wins on the board. A solid team effort, a BOG game from Boomer and a couple of snags for Poss was enough to drag us over the line for a much enjoyed 4 points. The seniors could’ve used some of that effort, as a lacklustre first half of footy gave Rye the upper hand. We couldn’t quite get the momentum swung back our way in the second half and were left to rue a missed opportunity. Good thing about footy though, is we get a chance to redeem just 7 days later and there will be a lot of fire in the belly today. Enjoy the long weekend, stay safe and we’ll catch you back at Glover Reserve in 2 weeks as we take on Sorrento. Go Meadows!

What a difference a week makes, after fantastic wins in two of 3 games against Red Hill, the Rosebud Football Club taught us a football lesson in all grades! The under 19â&#x20AC;&#x2122;s were probably a bit stiff, as positions on the ladder suggested the game should of been close, but with Rosebud regaining 6 players back from stingray duties, the Rosebud outfit was just to big, skilled and polished for our boys. The Reserves inconsistant form of the last 3 or 4 weeks finally caught up with them, they have managed to win games by playing 1 or 2 good quarters, but up against the reigning premiers, were found wanting, this does not mean the reserves are not good enough, but the boys quickly need to learn from Rosebuds performance, is where they need to get to, if they want to compete at the end of the year, you just have to want to do it! The Seniors are finding out what it is like to be reigning premiers, every week the opposition wants to perform against the Champions to see where they are at, well Rosebud just outplayed us in every aspect of the game, we know we ae better than that, but we must be prepared for the contest every week, that is what success brings! Pearcedale today, a great opportunity for all teams to get back on the winners list before the bye, be prepared for every contest and lets bring home 3 wins. A wonderful day at Shark Park last weekend with another packed Presidents lunch and the women having their own for the netballers. Congratulations to all involved in the ladies luncheon, it was a great success. To the football and in terms of results 2 out of 3 ain’t bad. The unders matched it with a highly fancied opponent but not for 4 quarters and that was the difference in the end. It was proof that our best can compete with anyone, getting to that level and staying there more frequently is the aim. The Scoobs continued on their merry way, keeping the streak alive. Although hard work and discipline has been the catalyst for such a great start, some of the passages of play were enough to make a jelly fish hard. At 7 zip the season is set up, it’s now time to consolidate. A big month ahead so no place for complacency. The Seniors needed a test and they got one from a fired up Sommie. If we were in any doubt it took about 20 seconds to realise Sommie were on, that was how long it took them to get there first goal. Our boys soaked it up and had a super 3rd quarter to make the game safe. The tests keep coming and today is another big one in all 3 grades. Let’s see if we can ruin the hillbillies day. We look forward to and welcome a home game today against the regenerating Tyabb FNC. The near picture perfect Olympic Park will provide a fitting backdrop for their challenge. Our senior teams again set themselves to play a decisive role in 2017 but of course we are taking it one week at a time. Methodically our coaching panel are progressing the structured education and development program for our players. Senior coach, Adrian McBean demands hard, relentless and thoughtful football in equal parts – Tyabb will face the brunt of our progress to date. The 2017 Report Card received a big tick last week with three comprehensive wins at Hastings. The senior team dished out the relentless pressure we were subjected to last year on their turf, and what a wonderful turn around for the faithful. Mids, backs & forwards were winners on the day and represented in the best players – BT, Keegan, GB, Sean, Seb and Jake. Adrian’s ¼ and ¾ time talks are well worth the walk out! The Development Squad played some truly impressive football with the pundits having a difficult time narrowing the best down to Robbie, Trav, Kurtis, Lachie, Jack & Jordan. The Unders resilience paid off in a big win with 40 shots on goal – they are worth an early start to watch, especially Campbell, Aaron, Reid, Matt C, Captain Nath and Will. Last week we welcomed Frankston expecting a real test for our developing team. It was pleasing to see a determined effort from the snrs, the pressure was on right from the start. Great effort from Darcy Sawyer who was given the big role on Cory Buchan & did a great job. In his first senior game of the season Whalley played well in defence with other strong contributors being Ransom, Connell, Pollard & Harbo. The Development team came up against an undefeated side in a crucial game. Another 8 changes meant the team had to gel quickly & thatâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s exactly what it did in the first quarter kicking three goals into a strong breeze. Unfortunaely we were then unable to make full use of the wind & could only hold that small lead at half time. The third quarter saw the guys dig in to tackle & smother well to put pressure on the opposition. Fton were able to inch ahead by 3 points at 3/4 time & with the first goal to the opposition in the final quarter it was looking like the losing streak may continue. Some hard running & desperation saw Tyabb kick 3 goals in the last ten minutes to win by 11 points. A tough day for the U/19s with only 15 players. Thanks to Mt Eliza for their continued support. The boys pushed hard & put in a competitive effort, challenging the Bombers for most of the game until fatigue set in in the last. Holland, Webster, Williams & Minotti played well with plenty of support from the rest of the boys. FUNCTIONS-all ball tickets must be purchased by June 8. NIP! NIP!

What a way for Benny Winters-Kerr to retire, in his 200th senior game, we have a great win, he kicks 4 goals and is named in the best. Sensational effort Ben from all at the club, well done on a magnificent career and enjoy your retirement. Great to see Ben hand down his famous number 3 jumper, to our young up incoming gun in Nick Rowson, tremendous honour Nick and I’m sure you will make your own history in the # 3. Fantastic win last week in the seniors defeating Devon Meadows by 38 points. A real 4-quarter effort, we had 22 contributors. Leigh Morse was BOG, closely followed by the “FIFO” Dayne Thomson, while “Spider” Wilson dominated the ruck duties, Harry Whitty and Nick Rowson were superb on ball. No use though having great wins away from home, unless we can go back-to-back today against Crib Point. The reserves again let a game slip from there clutches and were leading at ¾ time only to be over run the last quarter. Daniel Cimino battled hard all day and was BOG, Matty Whelan was dangerous down forward, and Stephen Tweedly the general down back, while Mitch Dunn, Jarvis Anderson played good 4-quarter games. Matt Wylie and Josh Gana were also solid contributors. 4 quarter effort today boys and let’s hope we get over the line. Unfortunately no game for the U/19’s last week, with Devon Meadows not having enough numbers to field a side. Big game today for our U/19 boys. White Night / Fall Moon party tonight on the rooms. The Under 19’s got the club off to a strong start with a comfortable 77 point win. The first half was played on the Pies terms and Harry Dekleuver was on fire collecting possessions at will. Jarrod Fisk was a focal point at CHF and the midfield was well on top in the clearances. In the second half Dromana got a lot of numbers behind the footy, making scoring more difficult. Best players were Harry Dekleuver, Will Larkin, Jarrod Fisk, Nick Rutherford, Arron King and Joseph ‘Joey Jo Jo’ Smith. The Reserves started strongly and controlled the tempo of the game moving the ball with ease. Beau Monty and Daniel White were everywhere and the Pies took a 45 point lead into the halftime break. The last quarter saw the team really click as they kicked 10 goals to finish off the game with a 131 point victory. Neil ‘big bad bustling boogsy clunks’ finished with 5 goals while Brodie Hill and Tyler Wilton snagged a few each. The backline was solid all day with Elliot Avis and Ethan Smith dominating across the half back flank. In their worst performance for the year the Seniors were outgunned by a young Dromana outfit. They weren’t clean when it mattered and weren’t prepared to run when they needed to. Crib Point trailed Domana by 20 points at halftime but that was as close as the Pies got to them as the Tigers finished with a 83 point win. Luke Herrington is finding some form after a quiet start to the year and Kyle Arnott was just about our only shinning light for the day.

Dromana at home today before the Queen’s birthday weekend break. After 1s & 2s going down to Sorrento we need to get back on the winners list. The U19s up against another finals contender ran away with a 53 point win. The scores were close at the quarter, but after quarter time we kicked 10 goals to 2 and showed that we are going to have a fair crack at the title this year! Barnsey bagged 5 and with 7 other goal kickers it was a great team effort. The 2s undermanned again with 2 boys playing up from U19s put in a gutsy effort. We lapsed in the 2nd quarter but shouldn’t feel disgraced going down by 10 goals as Sorrento have been taking everything before them in the 2s. Once the backline were fantastic with Jordo turning back the clock playing a great game. We just don’t have enough goal kickers and you never when a game with 3 goals on the board. The 1s too was a gutsy effort. The 3rd quarter Sorrento showed their class but for 3 quarters we really had a great dip. Sorrento like the 2s have been pumping sides and to go down the bay and lose by 43 points was gutsy effort. We need now to regroup and win the games we are expected to win and that starts today against Dromana. Anything other than a good 4 quarter result will not be acceptable. Another away game and this one at Somerville where we are sponsored by Hillview Quarries Last week’s Senior game saw us bring home the Edgerton Shield producing close to four quarters of good football and as a result we had a big win. This week we need to produce that same intensity for the whole game to produce a win which will have us knocking on the door to the five. The reserves again struggling for numbers cannot get any sort of run going and hopefully some of our injured and absent players can get back to provide some depth. Our U19s just didn’t turn up last week and probably played their worst game of the season. If they wish to play in the finals they need to forget that game and come out and play how we know they can today. If you haven’t bought a membership this year we are offering them at $50 for the next week, so get to the ground on training nights to purchase one. The Queen’s Birthday game against Red Hill for the Bluey Holmes Shield will be played at Dromana on the Sunday 11th June not Saturday as in the fixture. We will also be having the Players revue following that game which should be a great night. Remember our Mid Season Ball at The New Atrium will be on the 29th July We are still looking for some volunteers for various areas around the club including on the Board. So if you feel you have something to contribute speak to our Secretary.

Could hear a pin drop on a pile of luxury goose feather and down pillows. Couldn’t at least one person have clapped? Wishful thinking hey? Umpires. Just checked the Oxford dictionary and this is what it read - the root of all evil…You either hate them or…you hate them. When was the last time someone openly voiced their love of an umpire? On Monday evening the goalies had a lawn bowls night at Cranbourne Bowls Club. A bit of bonding and a new diet of pizza, steering away from the 4 hotdogs consumed game day. A good night was had by all. One of the topics of conversation was the crowd favourite the prim donnas the field umpire. We have had our stab at the young and occasionally not so young boundary umpires, so today it’s the field umpires turn. The question was asked. What is the most important thing for a field umpire? Is it their fitness, knowledge of the game, being able to bounce the ball, their whistle, red or yellow cards or their uniform? The simple answer is no to the above. After several years of watching the leaders of our group the simple answer is their hair. We have some with magnificent manes, others that are bald or almost there and others with a magnificent silver shade (no names Jacko). Then there are the field umpires with one or four colours running through their hair (Tammy). The best one of all however belongs to one of our young and upcoming umpires. I call it the just got out of bed hair. This young man’s hair is everywhere however there is so much product in it that it doesn’t move no matter how hard the wind is blowing. Zach Brasier you are an inspiration to us all.

Netball Preview

Bendigo Community Bank Nepean Netball Preview – Round 8 2017 Frankston v Devon Meadows The Bombshells had the challenge of the last year’s runner’s up and did not get anywhere close. Frankston have now dropped out of the top 4 and will need to learn and improve quickly so that come finals time, if they are playing, they can cause some headaches. This week should be a win for the Bombshells, Devon Meadows had a great win over Rye last weekend, but Frankston will be hungry to get back on the winners list after two week’s missing in action. Red Hill v Sorrento Wowie! Red Hill just jumped out of the blocks last week against Pearcedale. The Hill Women just didn’t give the Panthers a look in. Sorrento unfortunately were on the end of a netball lesson from Somerville, but as each week goes by, they continue to get better. A big game for both sides with Red Hill to come home with the points. Rosebud v Tyabb It’s 3v4 and certainly the match of the round for this week. Rosebud will be feeling refreshed after last weekend off, and looking forward to the challenge that the Yabbies bring to the table. Tyabb were impressive over Frankston

last weekend, and will be looking to continue their return to form with another win. Huge game that has massive implications for both sides, Rosebud will put up a great fight but Tyabb will just get over the line. Rye v Crib Point Rye were out played last weekend against a hungry Devon Meadows side. The Demon’s form has been up and down so far this season and if they want to have any chance of final then they need to start winning more games. This week presents to be a real challenge for Rye as they take on Crib Point. The Magpies just haven’t missed a beat and show no signs of slowing down. Crib Point will win this game but by how much will be up to the Demons. Somerville v Dromana The Eagles are certainly ticking all the boxes to present themselves as the real deal in 2017. We still must wait 3 weeks before Somerville take on Crib Point, but until then, the Eagles will continue to soar to greater heights. Dromana haven’t had the best season to date, and playing 2nd and then 1st two weeks in a row makes it tough. B-Grade – What a game, Hastings really put our defence to work this weekend. A very tall side all round, we worked all four quarters to our best. Better voice on the court meant our girls kept their heads up all game. Special mention to Leshelle who did not stop offering all game and Baz who was able to tip nearly every pass into the Hastings 6 foot+ GS. Well done girls. Awards - #1 Leshelle Benson, #2 Megan Berry C-Grade – Today we took on Hastings who came out firing. We played well in defence and moved the ball down the court. Second quarter we let slip and Hastings took full advantage. 3rd and 4th quarters we came together, spoke together and came back from 2 goals down to turn it into a 5 goal win. Great team work today! Red Hill Hills

Our under 17s got off to a slow start after a long break between games. However once they woke up they took control of the game in the third and fourth quarter. Lots of positives came out of our game with great goaling and accurate passing. Our defenders worked really hard . A couple of glitches in our game were worked on at training, we are ready to fire against Sorrento on Saturday. D Grade started well but the wind was proving tough in goal, Evie and Mariah were strong in defence with Ella through the mid court, driving the ball down into our attack end. The girls never gave up but Pearcedale proved too strong. We started well in C Grade with Abbie and Zoe strong in goals. Jessie taking many intercepts in the centre court and bring the ball down with speed. The game was pretty even and looked to be a close one coming into the last qrt. Pearcedale were too strong in the end but our girls gave their all. B Grade are finally coming together as a team with a few key positional changes. Such a diverse group of players who can play in multiple positions, a coaches dream! Well done girls on a great four quarters of play with major changes every quarter, showing your skill and knowledge of each other as a team! A great win. A grade managed to hold onto a strong lead from the improved pearcedale outfit. Goalers were on fire with many defensive turnovers across the court. Let’s hope the tide has turned and we continue this form for the remainder of the season. Go Hills

Devon Meadows Panthers

The U17s started our day off with a strong win against Rye. The game was a hard fought tussle with only the bare 7. We were up by 2 at quarter time and half time. The second half we put the foot down, worked the ball well as a team & opened the gap setting up our season. Best on Georgia D grade came out of firing and were up after the first quarter!! Unfortunately they couldn’t keep in front and rye took the lead to win by 4 goals in the end. It was a tough game and the girls have a lot to work on at training but the potential is definitely there! Boc Camille In the first quarter of c grade the girls were goal for goal with the rye girls. They soon moved forward on the score board with constant turnovers by Susie, Em and Jess in the defence. The attackers worked well at moving the ball down into the goals, and the goalers shot at a high accuracy!The girls are sitting nicely in second spot, and are working hard for the next few games that are going to be challenging. BOC Susie Hannema. It was awesome to have the B grade team looking like it’s old self with the return of Lee-Ree, Jilly, Shan & Shaylin. Our court was organised, defensive pressure was on & we converted our opportunities coming away with a win. Let’s see where our season takes us!! BOC Shan A grade started well finishing the first quarter with a good lead. Defensively the girls worked hard and pulled off a number of intercepts that were converted to goals. The driving out of defence was impressive. BOC ash

Tyabb Yabbies

Last round was a tough day for the Yabbies, going down in 3 out of 4 matches. D grade went down by the largest margin despite the enormous work put in by Chloe & Megan. Both girls demonstrated their leadership out on court, working tirelessly to keep their intensity up for the entire match. C Grade edged slightly closer to Fton but were not able to secure the win. Darcey created options all down the court & her feeding is improving each week. Jayde was once again great in defence especially her efforts with bringing the ball out. Improved consistency across the 4 quarters is needed for C Grade to start securing wins against tougher teams. B Grade came out firing in the closest match of the day. T & Ky teamed up for the first time in the circle & were able to rattle the Fton goalers in the first quarter. As the match progressed the Bombers crept back, levelling scores at 3/4 time. Both teams provided impressive full court defence in the last with Fton taking the 4 points in a match that could’ve gone either way. A Grade started with the intensity displayed in B Grade but Tyabb was quickly able to shake the Bombers. Izzy was the standout performer, turning the the ball over & created opportunities in attack. Today we travel to Rosebud where all teams are looking to improve consistency across the 4 quarters. FUNCTIONS - All tickets to the ball must be purchased by June 8th. Bendigo Community Bank Pearcedale Panthers

With 5 games on the cards and some good form starting to be found by some of our sides, the girls were pumped to get on court against Red Hill last week. 17’s, D and C kicked the day off with some solid wins showcasing their development and growth already this season. 17’s once again proved that they are finals contenders, pulling out a convincing win over a much taller Red Hill side. D Grade then came out firing, getting their hands to heaps of ball and causing turnovers all over the court. Red Hill fought back in the last but too little too late saw Pearcedale take the win. C Grade, who last week against Dromana showed they were taking this competition very seriously, played probably not their best game but kept the crowd entertained with loads of intercepts and flashes of cohesive brilliance. B Grade have been showing improvement in leaps and bounds from round 1 to now but unfortunately haven’t been able to convert that into wins just yet. The defense, transition and run down the court were all there but with some key players out, struggled to put points in the board. Lots of positives to take from the past two games though and this team is only getting better! A Grade were a little disadvantaged in the height department but showed lots of spirit and fight from start to finish. A huge CONGRATULATIONS to pocket rocket Hayley Gage who played her 50th game last week and another massive HOORAH to Molly Marshall playing her big 5-0 this week vs. Hastings! Amazing effort girls!

Somerville Eagles

Round 7 saw us take the long road down to Sorrento, luckily the sun was shining and it was a great day for Somerville netball. The C team had a great win. They tried some new combinations that were beautifully played. It was good to see everyone supporting and encouraging each other. The defensive circle pressure was fantastic and everyone was backing each other up. The B girls also had a good win. The team were able to play different combinations to give the girls a chance to play with new players in different positions. The girls continued to bond well on court together and showed some new skills that they had learnt in training. The A girls also had a big win but also came away with lots to work on. They were able to rotate the defensive end which allowed for their mid court to play more quarters together. We wish Danni a safe and fantastic trip to Europe and looks forward to her return. This week we take on Dromana at The Nest where we are looking to come away with 4 wins. GO EAGLES!!

Rye Demons We had an early start today, travelling to Devon Meadows for 5 games of netball. 17&Under started off well and were down by 2 at quarter time. It was an even second quarter, both teams scoring 13 goals. Shannon had a great game, shooting accurately and scoring 25 out of the 33 goals scored. Devon Meadows were too strong in the second half and we went down 46-33. BOC – Shannon Christodoulou D grade had a win today. Tamara played a strong game in GS, with both defenders putting pressure on her. Mid court fed the goalers well. Jenny and Miranda put pressure on when it counted and helped get Rye over the line by 4 goals. Final Score 35-39 BOC was Miranda Stewart C Grade: A very strong and physical game against last year’s reining premiers. The Rye girls never gave up and put in for all 4 quarters but the Panthers were just too strong on the day. Final Score 41-21. BOC was Sam Harris B Grade: After an injury in the first 5 minutes and with limited playing options, B grade had a tough game against a stronger side. There was some great teamwork and great to see girls having a go out of their comfort

Crib Point Magpies

We welcomed Dromana to the nest last week for a relatively successful day. D grade showed their improvement by staying toe to toe with Dromana until the last quarter. The girls showed a lot of fight and hunger for the ball but unfortunately were too good on the day. BOC went to Bridget for an amazing game in defence. C grade continued their undefeated streak, even with a few players out the girls didn’t miss a beat. Goaling duo Jess and Amy were back together and had a rocky start but found their rhythm winning by 18 goals. BOC went to Bree for her great drives and movement around the ring. B grade were back on the winners list after a strong game against Dromana winning by 14 goals. Missing Brooke in defence proved no challenge for our defence end creating several turnovers all game and our goalers were on point converting turnovers. BOC went to Molly for one of her best games yet in C and WD. A grade had another very successful game winning by 32 goals to a young but promising side. Defenders kept Dromana from scoring in the first quarter setting the pace for the day. Belinda and Leah were getting tips and intercepts left right and centre and Dionne may have gotten her first contact call ever! BOC went to Ebony for her good movement and accurate goaling. Traveling to Rye this week, let’s aim for 4 wins! GO CRIB!

If I could describe Chlo’s drives it would be the ok hand sign emoji – amazing. Unfortunately A grade misinterpreted the trip to Tyabb to go antiquing and pulled out some vintage A grade where we didn’t win many games. Trying hard but just couldn’t get it together.A minor road block and I’m sure this week we will come out hungrier than lice in a wig

We hosted Rosebud on a fine but very windy day. C grade had their best match for the year. All the girls put on the court the hard work they had been doing at training during the week. Driving strongly and playing a much more attacking style of game. Once again Jaimi Gay and Grace William’s were fantastic at the goaling end. This combination is getting stronger and stronger with every match they play, finishing off the hard work from the defenders. They had the lead at three quarter time but got over run in the final quarter going down by 3, but much improved performance by the girls.

Frankston Bombshells

Yabbies are an acquired taste. D grade had them on a sizzling hot BBQ, C grade boiled their yabbies, B grade thought slow cooked yabbies were most palatable. However A grade thought the Yabbies were best to swim away and be free. But 3 from 4 at the pond is a pretty delectable return. D grade turned the BBQ up so high they almost burnt their lunch. Bec was inspiring, leading our defenders and only keeping the opposition to 8 goals. And with Ash MoreGoals-Than-Tattoos Tanian turning over whatever loose ball we got into gold, D grade have placed themselves right at the top of the food chain. In C grade Twinkle toes Tahlzy kept covered more ground than a Kenyan marathoner and still had the energy to keep up the talk. Zen brining the ball out of defence was

Netball Notes

Bendigo Community Bank B grade started strongly and continued throughout the whole match. Hard work, commitment and a strengthened team bond is proving to be a tough gig for our opposition. Emma Smith is growing in confidence and strength with every match having her best game not only for the year but for the club. With her height she is really hard to match up on and is now using it to hers and the teams full advantage. This team is also growing every week on every level, being tested and having the ability to respond is an area that had been lacking but is now improving. Tash Green also had her best game for the club this year, her development as a netballer is showing through with every match she plays. A well deserved win by the girls. We look forward to heading to Pearcedale on their home courts this week.

Dromana Tigers

Saturday was a great test for our girls against a very strong Crib Point squad. We walked away from the day with 1 win and 3 losses and highlighting some key areas of focus moving forward. D Grade – The girls had a strong performance in D grade coming out with intensity and leading at each of the quarter breaks. It was a great 4 quarter effort from the team, taking the win 28-21. Best were Hannah Marin and Eliza Pittard

C Grade – It was a fairly good start to the game, however careless errors saw us unable to match Crib Points consistency. It was great to see the team gain some momentum going into the third quarter however we were unable to claw back at Crib Points first half lead. Final score was 20-38 with best Amy Ridgeway and Mel Ashton. B Grade – It was a really great contest and a good opportunity to push our B grade side. Unfortunately, once again a slow start saw us go into the half time break 12 goals down. Impressively, the girls recovered well winning the third quarter and showing their full potential, but unable to claw back the lead. Final score 27-41 with Sahra Dupuy and Eliza Pittard in the best. A Grade – It was a tough day for the A grade girls taking on a very dominant Crib Point side. Our defence did an impressive job of holding off Crib Points scoring, however we struggled to get the ball to our shooters and get the points on the board. We had some great passages of play, but were unable to match our oppositions skills level. Final score 55-13 with Georgie May and Caitlin Hestletine our best. Our A,B,C and D side look forward to another good challenge against Somerville this weekend. Go Tigers
