MPNFL Updates MPNFL Update Round 8 2017 Welcome to round 8 of the 2017 home and away season for both Peninsula FNL and Nepean FNL. We are now well and truly into the thick of the season with the ladder’s in both football and netball taking shape. Should be interesting come final time! This week is Quit Challenge Round. AFL South East Junior and Senior Football Clubs help support Smoke-Free environments through the upcoming Quit Challenge Round on June 3 and 4. AFL South East Region General Manager said “AFL SE is committed to working with both Junior and Senior Clubs to create healthy sporting environments. The willingness of the clubs to work collaboratively with Peninsula Health on these positive initiatives will have a long-lasting impact on local clubs. Next weekend is the Queen’s Birthday long weekend. There will be 3 stand alone games across the weekend in total between the Peninsula and Nepean leagues. So if you are having the weekend off, please enjoy and stay safe if you are traveling anywhere. A reminder that we have also officially moved to Frankston Park, in the old gaming venue. The Last Bud Vale - Paul Williams Every football/netball club has that person who is the larger than life constant. The passionate face of the club. Paul ‘Bud’ Williams was one of those great characters at the Pines Football/Netball Club, who sadly passed away last week after a long term of illness. Big Bud was a gentle man that would make everyone welcome at his club. He was a friend of the competition who put great effort into maintaining the history of clubs. Paul assisted the league and fellow club historians to create and maintain a database of what had been achieved over the years of Peninsula football in all its forms. Paul was a player, at Pines in the 60s and early 70s who went on to have 5 decades with the Pines club in many roles of the committee. Paul was well known for his good humour and writing, scribing for the record under the pseudonym ‘The Last Bud’ for many years. TLB took a lighter side view of game day so that readers had some fun, even if the team results weren’t good. Paul and Lorraine are grandparents to three generations of footballers with the Pines club, with grandson Dylan Williams in under 17s, together with son, Paul Williams junior a former Pines player and coach. The football world will miss Paul as will the Pines club. The league and it’s associated clubs pass on condolences to Lorraine and the Williams family. RIP The Last Bud.

AFL Vic Country FOOTBALL FACILITY FUNDING AVAILABLE Football and netball clubs in regional Victoria and on the metropolitan fringe can now apply for funding to rejuvenate their sports facilities through the Country Football Netball Program. Through the program, the Victorian Government has teamed up with AFL, AFL Victoria and Netball Victoria to fund a range of facility developments for country football and netball clubs across the state. This new round continues the great work of helping regional clubs, and clubs on the metropolitan fringe, who may be struggling with outdated, over-used or weatherdamaged facilities. Grants of up to $100,000 are available for projects that improve facilities, including change room overhauls, replacement of drought-affected turf, and installation of court lighting.

The Community Sports Infrastructure Fund has a range of different categories, some of which include: • Major Facilities – Grants of up to $650,000 are available to develop or upgrade major district and regional sport and recreation facilities • Minor Facilities – Grants of up to $100,000 for any one project are available for community sport and recreation groups, working in partnership with local government, to develop or upgrade community sport and recreation facilities. • Female Friendly Facilities – Grants of up to $100,000 are available to build new and upgrade existing, outdated change facilities that cater for female sport, with a focus on promoting female and family friendly environments. Since 2005, the Country Football Netball Program has kicked in over $23 million to more than 460 projects. This has delivered much needed infrastructure upgrades and given clubs the infrastructure they need to grow. AFL Victoria CEO Steven Reaper has urged eligible football and netball clubs to apply for funding through their local councils. “This program has been incredibly effective in assisting clubs to upgrade and modernise their facilities. As participation in the game continues to grow, so does the need for facilities to support not only the growth, but the changing profile of participation.”

Football Preview TIGERS AND PYTHONS IN BLOCKBUSTER by Simon McEvoy THEY rocked the 1980s and now SEAFORD and PINES are back on top of the charts. Old timers will have a warm fuzzy feeling today when the Tigers and Pythons clash in a top-of-the-ladder blockbuster. It’s a throw-back to the 1980s when Seaford and Pines, tough and talented, constantly diced for top spot - and won a combined five flags. Seaford takes a six-game winning streak into the showdown, the Tigers full of momentum and confidence. It’s an extra special day for them, with club greats “Shorty” Walker and Joey Hallal achieving significant games milestones; Shorty notching 400 and Joey 300. Strong all over the ground, Seaford’s surge this season has been fuelled by the likes of in-form Damien Rayson, Kane Taylor, Nick Braund, Kieran Shaw and Under 19 Bailey Schmidt, who has been excellent since getting his chance. Similarly, Pines is running hot. Aaron Edwards has kicked 17.2 in the last two games, Guy Hendry’s vice-like marking has been outstanding, Corey Ash is relentless, Shane Waterstone lively, and Jon Hughes and Jacob Boyle continue to play important roles. Pines coach Paddy Swayn paid tipped praise on his side’s backline after last week’s win, even likening it to YCW’s defence. “Our backline is so solid…we were able to counter attack, which is very much YCW-like,” he said. “They win the ball in the back half and then they repel from there. We’re starting to get to that stage now.” MT ELIZA and BONBEACH meet in the match of the round at Madsen Reserve and many, including the coaches, have been looking forward to this battle for some time. “I’ve been eyeing it off for a little while,’’ Bonny coach Steve Hughes said. “Troy (Shannon) probably has, too. Can’t wait, really excited about that. I think the boys are as well, so that’s a true test, down there. They are back in really good for now, so we will know exactly where we are at.’’ Bonbeach beat Mt Eliza twice last season, including a 21-point win at this ground when Beau Bailey, Gary Carpenter and Mark Tyrell combined beautifully. A year on and Bonbeach is 5-2 and appears to be an even stronger outfit. Mt Eliza is still to win two games in a row this season but is coming off a slick performance, when the Redlegs kicked their highest score of the season and Justin Van Unen fired off eight goals. All good signs – and the form of Ben Landry has been red-hot. EDI-ASP’s past three games have been against topfive sides. Today the Eagles take on second-bottom

KARINGAL (1-6) in a game they must win if they’re serious about playing finals. Edi-Asp played excellent footy to beat Mt Eliza a fortnight ago and turned it on in the last quarter to swamp Mornington before that. A repeat of that form would see the Eagles win this and move to 4-4. Look for Liam Harris, Callan VanDyke, Mark Mullins and Brendan Neville to continue their great form. Karingal hasn’t won a game since Round 1, although Jake Kelly, Jacob Duscher, Dylan Gregson and Duncan Proud keep leading by example. It’s been a frustrating period for both MORNINGTON and LANGWARRIN, but today brings opportunity. The Bulldogs (1-6) have lost five in a row but last week’s effort against Bonbeach was their best in a month, according to coach Chris Holcombe. Kalen Bird, Mick Gay, Joel Miller and Travis Young provided a spark as Mornington stormed back into the contest with a five-goal third term, putting Bonbeach – a flag contender – under pressure. It’s good form going into a game against the bottom side. But Langwarrin (0-6) could also be on the up. Langy are winless, but a four-goal third quarter against Frankston YCW contained some of the Kangaroos’ best footy of the season. Perhaps they are close to breaking their duck egg. And they have been known to perform well at the kennel. CHELSEA has taken big steps forward this season, and is sure to relish the chance to test themselves against reigning champions FRANKSTON YCW. The Seagulls won three on the trot last month but received a reality check last week in the form of a 69-point loss to Pines. If they can put the defeat out of their mind and return to the form that saw them beat Mt Eliza, Karingal and Langwarrin in successive rounds, then this could be a close contest. Frankston YCW did what was required last week, beating Langwarrin. The form of Kyle Hutchison, Matt La Fontaine, Christian Ongarello and Josh Butland has been impressive.

Football Preview ‘SHORTY’ HITS 400 FOR TIGERS IN THE RESERVES… What a mighty performance. SEAFORD champion Jeremy “Shorty’’ Walker plays his 400th game for the Tigers today - and you can bet his teammates will be going all out to make sure the historic milestone is celebrated with a win over PINES. It will be a cracking game between two inform sides. Seaford has won six on the spin, Pines four. Look for Shorty to put his stamp on the game. CHELSEA faces an in-form FRANKSTON YCW, searching for its fourth straight win. Aidan Serle, Sam Pickess and Charlie Patterson are playing good footy for the Stonecats, who have cemented fourth spot. Undefeated MT ELIZA hosts last-start winners BONBEACH. The Redlegs appear almost unstoppable, while the Sharks are knocking on the door of the top-five and will need inform trio Sean Campitelli, Mitch Barry and Sheldon Price to maintain their high standard. If LANGWARRIN and MORNINGTON want to play finals, this is a must-win game. Only percentage separates the sides. EDI-ASP is desperate to snap a four-game losing streak when it tackles KARINGAL. EAGLES READY FOR BULLS IN THE UNDER 19s… EDI-ASP roared back to winning form last week, with Lachlan Busch capping a best-on-ground display with four goals, supported by Ash Flynn and Harley Dale. Today the Eagles host KARINGAL in a crucial fourthversus-fifth battle. CHELSEA looked sharp last week, firing off 25 scoring shots, with Lorcan McGurgan, Jesse Davies and co. running rampant, but the Seagulls will need to be at their absolute best to test undefeated ladder leaders FRANKSTON YCW. In-form MORNINGTON forward Lachlan Gorka, with 14 goals this season, will play a key role in the Bulldogs’ bid to topple second-placed LANGWARRIN. Mornington booted 19 goals last week and, with Josh Small, Jacob Rowler and Tim Susovich also in good form, will try to serve it up to Langy. SEAFORD will be keen to boost its percentage when it tackles bottom side PINES. Third-placed MT ELIZA is expected to shrug aside BONBEACH, with promising Redlegs Aaron Jackson, Oscar Craig and Harrison Scott set to continue their strong form

Traveled down to the Pines last week and had a good start to the day with the 19’s churning out a good win to start the day. Must say these boy’s are really starting to get their act together especially now we have some numbers, full credit to all. Unearthing some good players for the future, King’y leading from the front and great to have Andy Silva back and kicking goals, Big McGurk improving every game with good support from Jess, Kelly and Balfe. The 2’s came up against a good outfit and tried hard, Corey Peele is a good target and Gard’s solid again with good support from Matt Mitchell, also Drilla was great again celebrating his 21st in fine style, well done Champ. Please support Stevie team and get to training, we need everyone on board. The Seniors were slow out of the blocks and paid the price, as with last week a couple of injuries didn’t help the course. Under a lot of pressure i thought the backs tried really hard, Trew’y, Rhys and Luke Casperz all solid with Brendan Dess getting a lot of the ball around the ground, good to see young Lex standing up again !!. Back to Beardsworth now for 3 home games on the trot so let’s all do the hard yards on the track and convert a solid start to the season into a good year for the Footy Club as we move forward. Don’t forget to get your tickets for the holiday on Hamilton Island, no excuses here as this is a Major Fundraiser for the Whole Club. See you at the Gullery !!

Today we venture to Beardsworth Ave to take on the Chelsea Seagulls in both codes. The Gulls won three on the trot before last weeks stumble and will be keen to atone. Two in a row at the Coburn oval last week as welcomed Langy in windy and chilly conditions. Hutcho’s boys started the day well for us winning a danger game by 29 points. Co-skipper Haydos led from the front, Jarrod Sullivan booted 3 whilst Shem Barry and Ben Crackers stood tall. The Twos started ok and had a great 2nd quarter into the wind. The second half was tough but we hung in there to post a gritty 25 point win. Sam Pickess and Aiden Serle stood out whilst Charlie Patto and Robbie Evans provided drive. Cheered on by the Ladies at their lunch, the Numeros started brightly into the wind and then consolidated. Those pesky Roos wouldn’t lie down though and the second half was an arm wrestle. Kyle Hutch relished the conditions, Laffa and Jake L had leather poisoning whilst Josh Butts provided a target up forward. Ongers was a rock down back. The Stonekittens won three games - have a read of their notes. The Day at the Dogs is tomorrow. $30 gets you a return bus trip, a betting voucher and finger food. There are a few tickets left - see Tanya. On Saturday June 10 (the bye week end) we have the Big Draw - see Redders for tickets (or he’ll see you) Entry fee gives a generous food and drink package and a chance to share some booty. A good start to the day with Under 19 boys scoring a good win against Seaford. Best players included L. Busch, A. Flynn, H. Dale, Z. Fatouros, L. Turner, J. VanMinnen. The reserves were looking good but couldn’t get the points after trying their best. Just missing out by 7 points was tough and A. Luxa, J. O’’Neill, D. McCarthy, J. Watterson, D. Warke, T. Burley were the best on the day. The seniors were right in it until half time but were outscored in the second half. We battled hard and L. Harris, C. VanDyke, M. Mullins, B. Neville, A. Macquire, T. Mannix were in the better players. We are looking to bounce back hard this week !!!! Our women’s teams played Friday night with the seniors scoring a good win. The seconds tried hard but were beaten on the night. Club Notes Not a great day at Frankston last Saturday as all 3 teams fell short of Mt Eliza The Unders were close in patches and definitely have the talent to take it up to the year’s stick of the comp but didn’t bring it on the day, special mention to Coby who is recovering after a bad knock. The Reserves looked good on paper but could not match the run & spread of the Mounties The Seniors were in it for a while but not quite there. Today we welcome Langwarrin Football Netball Club to the kennel for what will be a great day of football & netball. Last week, Round 7, had us journeying up the highway to take on Bonbeach. In the Under 19’s firstly great credit must go to of a couple of boys who took up the offer to fill in for our opponents allowing Bonbeach to run some rotations of their bench. Thankyou to Jack Crawford and Jackson Poole for doing that. The players task for the day was to play out 80 minutes of footy without going through any mental lapses. For the most part this was achieved and we are now looking forward to taking on second placed Langwarrin at the kennel for what promises to be a great game of unders football. The Ressies played a team that was one game ahead of them and even though they fought all day were unable to peg back the lead and went down by 21 points. In the Seniors they came up against a very polished unit in Bonbeach & you could see why they beat Frankston YCW the week before. The boys put in a good effort and were in it at the 3rd quarter mark only being down by 7 points but then we lapsed in concentration & let Bonbeach kick away & we went down by 26 points. Today we continue our away from home games as we take on Mornington at Mornington. We as always are expecting a tough game today , but should go into the contest with plenty of confidence. Last week we were competitive throughout the seniors game as we took on league leaders YCW. It was encoraging to see us play like we did. Hard at the ball and our opponenets. Our defence standing tall, and commitment from the team. This should give us the foundation to play a more competitive brand of football for the rest of the year. It was a game that allowed us to regain some self belief. Peachy played probably his best game for the club. The Bateman boys were elusive and dangerous. Boof took plenty of marks and kicked 3. Siz and Pato wore the scars of battle after the game that showed just how hard they were at it. Our 19’s , as always played an attacking brand of football but couldnt get the win against the league leaders. Good players included Matty Peynenbourg and Tatey. The 2’s best included Jake Prosser , Aaron Marks , Borrie and Ulbrick in a 25 point loss. Though we didnt come away with a win, it was a weekend of games that should really see us move forward with belief from here. Go Langy !!!!

Welcome to the Bonbeach FNC today for what shapes as a big day of footy. Today we pay tribute to Ry Cranwell on his 150th & Life Membership Game. Yet another product of the MEJFC, Cranny played his first game in 2009, has played 52 Games in the Senior side and has played in the past 3 Reserves Premierships, playing key roles in all of them. All the best to a terrific player and Clubman. Congratulations also to Matty Pascazio who plays his 50th Game today. Last week we ventured to Frankston Park to take on Karingal. The Under 19’s started well and led by 5 goals during the 2nd term, before Karingal kicked the last 3 goals prior to half time to reduce our lead to 16 points. One goal apiece in the 3rd set up a tight last quarter however we dominated with 3.4 to nil to run out winners by 6 goals. Scotty booted 4 and best players were Oscar Craig, Jacko, Nelson Forrest, Nat Turner & Ricey. The Reserves dominated from start to finish, keeping the opposition to just 5 behinds for the game. Jack Nugent booted 3 and Zal 2, to be amongst the best along with M Cleary, Trent, Lyndy & Sam Howell. Great to see Lombo back for his first game of the season. The Seniors started well with the breeze, kicking 6.7 to 0.2 in the first quarter and after an even 2nd term we went in leading by 34 points at ½ time. Another big quarter with the wind (9 goals to 2) saw the margin blow out to 13 goals. The last quarter was again an even contest, with a 77 point win the final result. Big G was dominant against his former Club and other better players were JV with 8.2, Langers, Turnbull, Barto & debutant Jem Thorne. Back at home all teams had good results against Mornington last Saturday. The reserves got their season back on track with a much needed win. In blustery conditions the boys turned up to play and it showed with a strong first quarter they maintained a lead in a low scoring contest. The senior side backed up last weeks huge win to get the job done over a plucky Mornington outfit. Buoyed by the return of VFL and TAC cup players the boys were too good when it mattered running out 5 goal winners. The young brigade ruled with Beau Bailey best on ground and Ben Hogan playing his best game this season. The future looks bright as our under 19 side continues to make good progress. Numbers are increasing and it’s a credit to Thommo and his group in sticking together, engaging with the club and laying great foundations for what is a 36 game season for many of these boys. Credit also to Brad Sykes and the Bonbeach player Academy. Another tough road trip this week to Mt Eliza we wish all football/netball teams the best of luck. Saturday the 17th of June Bonbeach Football Netball club hosts its annual Community match day. A day when our club makes an extra effort to engage with the community. Our Match Day Luncheon features special guest Scott Watters. Scott’s story from AFL coach to harnessing his experience and passion for youth development through his recently launched program ‘LifeChanger’. A program that nurtures and develops an adolescents ‘personal identity’, the most crucial component required to live a full and maximised life.. A warm welcome to our neighbours, Pines FNC today. Very saddened to hear about the great clubman, Paul Williams SNR passing away last week. Thoughts are will the Pines FNC & Williams family. A big congratulations to Jeremy “Shorty” Walker & Joey Hallal on their remarkable achievements. To reach 400 & 300 club games respectively is history making for our club and it couldn’t be more appropriate that two of the most respected players within the club. I’m stoked they get to enjoy the occasion together. Hopefully we’ll have a few ripping contests on hand in what will be a special day in our Clubs history. A thank you to the umpires and the Chelsea football/ netball club for participating in the paying of respect to Paul Williams Senior who passed away last week. Paul was a great contributor to the football record writing under the pseudonym “The Last Bud” for many years providing his entertaining view of the week in football. We pass on our condolences to Lorraine and family. The game day coincided with the introduction of our new car park and netball courts. The car park has provided some logistical challenges for patrons so we ask for some patience as we work through how to best effect the reduction of car spaces and the new entry and exit points. The new courts were appreciated by the Pines and Chelsea girls. unfortunately for us all 3 games favoured the opposition, with A grade getting the points through no game. The Seniors continued to show improvement with plenty of scoreboard pressure kicking 21 goals after kicking the first 10 of the game. Aaron with 8 and Bongo with 3, were the majors within the 10 goal kickers. Gordo’s boy marked everything, Ash was dogged in his role and Wetrock was hard at it. The reserves similarly kicked plenty. Great to see Gavin Stretch get on the board to lead with 3 amongst the 10 goal kickers. Newcomer Brendan Barefoot impressed as did his mate Lee Hearnden along with Taylor Meyer, DMac and young Chris Guganovic. Good to welcome back Harley Parker and Rhys Chalkley. 19s tried hard but weren’t able to finish the game.

Could hear a pin drop on a pile of luxury goose feather and down pillows. Couldn’t at least one person have clapped? Wishful thinking hey? Umpires. Just checked the Oxford dictionary and this is what it read - the root of all evil…You either hate them or…you hate them. When was the last time someone openly voiced their love of an umpire? On Monday evening the goalies had a lawn bowls night at Cranbourne Bowls Club. A bit of bonding and a new diet of pizza, steering away from the 4 hotdogs consumed game day. A good night was had by all. One of the topics of conversation was the crowd favourite the prim donnas the field umpire. We have had our stab at the young and occasionally not so young boundary umpires, so today it’s the field umpires turn. The question was asked. What is the most important thing for a field umpire? Is it their fitness, knowledge of the game, being able to bounce the ball, their whistle, red or yellow cards or their uniform? The simple answer is no to the above. After several years of watching the leaders of our group the simple answer is their hair. We have some with magnificent manes, others that are bald or almost there and others with a magnificent silver shade (no names Jacko). Then there are the field umpires with one or four colours running through their hair (Tammy). The best one of all however belongs to one of our young and upcoming umpires. I call it the just got out of bed hair. This young man’s hair is everywhere however there is so much product in it that it doesn’t move no matter how hard the wind is blowing. Zach Brasier you are an inspiration to us all.

Mt Eliza v Bonbeach

Massive game for both teams this week. A win for Mt Eliza will keep their season alive and in touch with the top four while a win for Bonbeach will certainly be a confidence booster. Mt Eliza haven’t been too far of the mark and continue to improve as each week goes by. This game will be a close one with Mt Eliza taking the chocolates at the end of the day.

Edi-Asp v Karingal Now who doesn’t love a grudge match! These two sides have met in the grand final the past two years with Edi-Asp taking the cake both times. Neither side will want to show their full hand in this game or the next later in the season. What will be on display though is a great game of netball. There is no love lost between these two sides and it’s doubtful this will change today, both sides have hit some good form but will the outside courts favour Edi-Asp, it’s a tough game to call but Karingal to win but only just.

Mornington v Langwarrin Mornington are having a stellar season so far. The Bulldogs haven’t really done to much wrong for a side on the rise. This week they take on Langwarrin who are in a similar position to Mornington. The Kanga’s are also on the up and continue to better themselves each week. Mornington are probably a little bit further ahead in their development and will take the points in this game.

Seaford v Pines Big local derby for these two sides! Formerly sharing a home court, the Pines now have their brand-new courts, Linen House is now a Seaford only domain. The Tigers almost got Edi-Asp last week only going down by 5 points. Pines had the bye last week and will be refreshed and ready to take on their neighbouring opponent. While Pines won’t be favourites for this game, they will certainly provide a competitive contest for the Seaford girls.

We also held our Ladues Luncheon & what a fantastic day! Along with a packed house of great people, Phil Jones provided first rate fare & Julie was an amazingly inspirational guest speaker! Talk about being tough & resilient! Thank you to everyone who donated prizes, sold raffle tickets, decorated the rooms & manned the door. You ensured that the day was a great success. Chelsea Seagulls

So lovely to play at Pines and follow footy nearby! Congrats Pines on christening your new court. It gave insight to what Chelsea will experience after Kingston Council’s recent approval for a court. Exciting times. Amazing four quarter effort by D grade this weekend to come away with a our first win. Everyone did exactly what was asked of them and played exactly how we want to play every week. Our defence worked hard taking strong rebounds and our attackers converting every opportunity they had. The girls should be super proud of their efforts and be ready to back it up next week!!! C Grade was keen to keep up momentum and fight for another win. The whole team worked together nicely to create a handy lead which made it hard for the Pines to fight back. The girls matched the physicality of the Pines and kept it cool to take the win, Hannah and Casey were stand outs through the attacking end out playing their opponents and working it into the ring. Pines fought back however their push was too late. Another win for the Chelsea C’s.

B Grade welcomed Dana and Brylee to the team. The girls fit right in and brought so much to the game. Brylee’s defence was hard to fault taking many intercepts and fought for every ball. Dana fed beautifully into the ring giving the players around her the confidence! Gaby was another stand out in the goal ring which earnt her player of the day. We look forward to a tough match against the reigning premiers next week. 3 from 3 - a CFNC first!

Frankston YCW StoneKittens

First things first big shoutout to Katie S & everyone else involved in the running of our always loved Ladies Day. It was a huge success and daaaamn girls you all looked gorgeous! This week on the court it wasn’t our D girls day with a 26-32 loss, our fitness & drive for the ball maybe letting us down. Not to worry with our best on Sophie Damm & Tyler B’s numerous intercepts, rebounds & defensive pressure coupled with Nicky in centre connecting all the dots there is a lot to love about this team. A few things at training & we will definitely have them next time! Langy really gave our C girls a run for our money in the first quarter, doubling our score, but with a few tweaks & a team chat we came back firing, Kirsty K & best on Max Barry keeping them to only 2 goals in the 2nd quarter with solid pressure & plenty of tips & taps. From there the girls just ran with it coming away with a 47-27 win. Another amazing B grade 74-44 win with just an all round team effort. These B girls are all so accountable for their game, implementing their training into their game and obviously with successful results. A day for the defenders with best on to KP for her hands over and cutting off the drives. Our A girls really needing a win this week after a tough start of season lineup - they did just that with a 49-37 win. Some of the best linking from the defenders to goalers seen this year to thank and an amazing attacking game from best on Brooke C. Love your work girls, GO STONEKITTENS

Pines Pythonettes

A great week at the Snakepit with the first games being played on our new netball court. It was really good for everyone to be playing at the same venue as the football with a lot more support for the girls. With Chelsea having no A grade and having a rest our 3 other teams came out strong but need to keep the momentum going the whole game. We are seeing some improvement each week and with a bit more belief in themselves they will be giving a few teams a bit more of a push to get the win. Netball Notes Mt Eliza Red Legs

We headed to McLelland College to take on Karingal this week which is always a competitive match up. D GRADE put up a great fight against a strong Bulls side Krystal played a fantastic game in defence while Jordyn was strong in goals. Jade did some great work in the mid court also. Unfortunately the Bulls were too strong on this occasion taking the 4 points home (35-22). C GRADE was goal for goal the entire game, both teams pushed each other to the limit & really tested each other. At each break the scores were tied, Karingal however were that little bit more composed & won by 6 in the end (4438). Steph ran out an excellent game in centre while all defenders teamed extremely well to apply fantastic pressure. B GRADE started slow on Saturday which meant we were chasing our tails for the whole game. Karingals full court defence meant the Mounties found it difficult to find space across the court & attacking was a challenge. Although the girls fought hard Karingal were just too good on the day taking the win 48-36. Jo ran well in the mid court while Abbey started to show some real promise in her movement in the attacking end. A GRADE started well and came out firing in the first quarter. Karingal however bounced back & put their foot down in the second term to take control of the game. With strength and height at both ends it was a tough challenge for our girls, however they put in a fantastic team effort, they lost 66-43 in a competitive game.

Karingal Bullettes

Last Saturday we had four tough games against Mt Eliza & luckily came away with the four points in each game. D grade had the fresh legs to take out the game in the fourth quarter. Bec, Kel & Gerri were a defensive brick wall that kept forcing turnovers. A great game with a great result! C grade - after being down all game - re grouped in the fourth quarter & snatched the win! An emotional game for the girls with the passing of Kiah’s mother in law, wearing the black arm bands to honour her & Kiah definitely did that with a sensational fourth quarter effort! Tayla ruled the mid court despite being sick & Steph made the switch to WA which did the trick with her feeds into the goal ring. B grade had birthday girl Michelle on fire in defense & Nadine & Emily on point in goals. A grade had three unstoppable defenders in Renee, Mards & Jayde who contributed to another excellent win which leaves them the only undefeated side in A grade! This week we travel to Rowans Road to take on Edi Asp in another four tough games. Hopefully the weather holds out & the wind stays away and we can play some top notch netball! #GOBULLS!

Seaford Tigers

Tiges v Eagles. Unfortunately none of the girls took home the chocolates this week however there were definitely some tight competitive matches. D grade however was not one of them and perhaps a game we might like to forget. C grade are a team with such potential, being second bottom took on a second top Eagles side and went down by a respectable 10 goals. Last time the tiges took on the Eagles, B grade went down by 23 & A grade lost by 31 goals. This week the girls lost by 14 and 5 which shows not only great improvement by each team but should provide us with belief that we are more than capable of showing it to the best in the comp. The girls still have much to learn and grown so we believe the best is yet to come. This week saw our first function the annual FRAT party where more Fireball was consumed than humanly possible and confirmed our skills are on the netball court and perhaps not as much on the dfloor or the beer pong table. Votes this week: 3 votes –on the bed score sheets goes to the Edi girl who missed the game after driving to Linen House Frankston rather than the Linen House Centre… 2 votes – Michelle “harry high pants” Liepa - no explanation necessary 1 vote – Tanya for telling everybody her boyfriends football number rather than his house number. (Apologies to the young family woken up several times as people arrived knocking on the door for pre drinks). He’s got the spirit of Bonbeach And on the tables Matt Lowe saw, Ten thousand people, maybe more Boys are dancing with no tops on, Smithy’s trying to turn the lights back on, Gary’s angry, saying Smithy don’t you dare, it’s just not fair We want to keep dancing at Bonny.... Wishing all the Sharks girls good luck against Mt Eliza this week. #finsup Battsy and Eddo out.

Langwarrin Kangaroos

Coming up against last years premiers, our B girls knew a strong and solid performance was needed to secure a win, but unfortunately a well drilled YCW side took control of the match early proving too strong for our girls to contain. Glimpses of brilliance from goaler Mel were effortless but was still not enough to help her side to a much needed win. Our girls will regroup and look forward to next week. Our thriving D grade girls are going from strength to strength. Cementing their well deserved second spot on the ladder, our d girls controlled the game coming away with a 6 goal win. Holly’s efforts in defence proved problematic for YCW goalers and ultimately earning her BOC honours. C grade started off brilliantly, gelling well and taking the lead by 7 at the first break. Unfortunately, YCW mixed up their team with impressive results, slowing diminishing our lead and taking a 20 goal win. A disappointing result but a lot of positives were taken from the game. BOC went to pocket rocket Eryn who never gave up til the final whistle.

A grade girls worked tirelessly but were unable to secure a win, eventually going down by 12. With our defenders hampered by injuries in the first quarter, sisters Zoe and Emily stepped up their defensive pressure causing YCW to really earn their win. With only one win for the day, we look forward to meeting YCW again later in the season, but for now we focus on next week, and anticipate a tough encounter against the doggies! Go Roo’s!!

Mornington Bulldogs

In A Grade the girls had a comfortable victory after a close first term against Bonbeach. With two defenders down this week we needed to be resourceful and creative with our line-up. Britt & Katey both played in unfamiliar territory in defence and did a remarkable job. The midcourt pressure applied was immense from all during the first term to successfully shut down the ball coming out of our attack end. Sarah really stepped up in goals, positioning and presenting well. Great job by all. B grade side were impressive from the outset. Chris & Monica were powerful through the mid-court, using their speed and tenacity to penetrate space and create many turn-overs. Eliza & Sophie played an exceptional game together in defence & provided the side plenty of turn-overs. But the goaling combination of Katey & Holly was the standout for the match, shooting prolifically throughout the match. C grade also had another convincing win with best onto court being Jacqui in goals, doubling last weeks %. With a more controlled game it settled our attacking end and only positives can come of that. Our defence in Meg and Sarah killed it! D Grade had another great win this week again. Watching the skills in warm up we knew these girls were a force to be reckoned with. Lucy was strong in the centre and also Pippa in defence. Pippa shut a very strong GA down for the entire 2nd quarter. She works tirelessly every game. Great team effort again today. Go Doggies WOOF WOOF
