AFLSE recognise the importance of providing a safe and enjoyable environment for everyone to participate within the Mornington Peninsula Nepean Football League. We recognise that on, and off, the field, bad behaviour reflects not only on individuals but also the team, club, league and the game of Australian Football. As a collective, we should not be tolerating unsportsmanlike behaviour in any form and need to adopt a zero tolerance to any behaviour that does not reflect our values or community expectations.

Abusing umpires, officials, participants or spectators should be called out before it escalates or the behaviour offends or excludes people from enjoying being involved in the great MPNFL competition. As you would be aware last weekend, there was a significant incident in the Pines v Mt Eliza U19 match where young Pines player Kadel Key went into cardiac arrest after being hit in the face by the football. The swift actions of the qualified trainers and first responders on the ground assisted in the professional management of the emergency. As a result, Kadel is recovering well and on the road to recovery. Don’t forget to secure your table at the annual ‘Women in Sport’ luncheon scheduled for Friday 21st July. Special guests include Susan Alberti AC, Sports Journalist Caroline Wilson and AFL W Coach of Collingwood FC Wayne Siekman. Bendigo Community Bank Initial Vic Country Big-V Squads announced Worksafe AFL Victoria Country has released its initial senior and Energy Safe Under-19 representative squads ahead of its clash against the Victorian Amateur Football Association (VAFA) next month. Thirty-eight of Victoria’s best country senior players are in the running to don the Big V jumper when the pair meet their metro rivals in the 2017 Brian Molony Cup at Frankston City Oval on July 8. Eight different country football leagues are represented in the initial senior squad, with Ovens & Murray Football League (eight), Geelong Football League (eight), Mornington Peninsula Nepean Football League (five) and Ballarat Football League (five) boasting the most selections. Held biennially, the 2017 Brian Molony Cup is set to reignite one of the longest-standing rivalries in community football as the best from the bush take on the best from the burbs. Country Victoria’s top senior footballers will be led by former AFL player and coach and Bungaree Football Club product Danny Frawley, who took over the reins from Hawthorn legend Peter Knights last year. Defeating the VAFA by 62-points in the pair’s last meeting at Bendigo in 2015, Vic Country will be looking to extend its winning streak over their traditional rivals. In addition, Vic Country’s next generation of community stars will have the chance to showcase their skills in the Under 19 Challenge Cup. Twelve different country football leagues have representatives included in the initial 53-player squad, with Ovens & Murray FL (11), Mornington Peninsula Nepean FL (10) and Geelong FL (nine) securing the most representatives. Victoria’s brightest young regional talent will once again be led by Yarrawonga co-coach Damien Sexton, who will suit up for his ninth season at the helm.

The Energy Safe Victoria Country Under 19 squad has recorded emphatic victories in its last three encounters against VAFA, defeating their metro opponents by 44-points at Mernda Reserve last season. Both squads will conduct three training sessions in the lead up to their representative clashes, with the final squads to be trimmed to 22-players each. The Under 19 Challenge Cup will kick off at 11:30am as a curtain raiser to the 2017 Brian Molony Cup at 2:15pm at Frankston City Oval on Saturday July 8. Football Preview By Toe Punt It’s hard to remember a more anticipated game than today’s clash between Sorrento and Frankston Bombers. Sorrento has quickly announced itself as the juggernaut of the competition, however, it is yet to tackle the two teams it shares the top three with – Frankston and Hastings. Today and next week, we get a true indication of where the Sharks are really at. The red and white has proven this season that it can beatup on the ‘lesser’ sides in the competition. The true test comes when the Sharks tackle the 2016 Grand Finalists. Today, it starts with the Frankston Bombers. Now, the Bombers are a ways off playing their best footy but they continue to pick-up the four points. It is also playing without Scott Foster, James Degenhardt, Al Williams and Josh Chapman. Foster robs the Bombers of an important forward, Williams gets a job on a key forward each week, Degenhardt is one of the most underrated mids in the caper and Chapman provides enormous outside run. One positive for the Bombers this week will be the return of Alex Harnett, who will provide plenty of midfield drive and support to Dale Sutton while allowing to leave Sam Fox forward to be dangerous for longer.

Football Preview Against Rosebud last weekend, Frankston was outplayed and outworked for 85 per cent of the game. Inaccuracy cost the Buds again. Regardless, Frankston hung in there and in a 12-minute period, turned a nine point deficit into a 15-point lead. It was enough to win the game. Likewise, a few weeks ago Sorrento lost three of four quarters against Somerville but managed an eight goal win! Given the opportunity, both teams can put the opposition to the sword. To me right now, Frankston lack firepower in attack. Sorrento has Chris Dawes and Nick Corp. In defence, the Bombers are great at attacking but I still question their ability to defend. Sorrento defend very well, led by Paxton, while the likes of Schwarze, Hallahan, Grant, Head and co both defend and attack. In the middle, itâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s hard to split the teams. Bombers withstood the pressure against Rosebud last week and pumped Hastings a few weeks ago. Sorrento hasnâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t been truly tested for four quarters. How it stands up to the heat will be the difference between winning and losing. Talent alone, Sorrento wins. RED HILL simply must bounce back today and beat DEVON MEADOWS at home.

Football Preview The Hillmen have been very ordinary in the past couple of outings and the Red Hill contingent who believe I don’t rate their team should be in their boxes right now. I’m interested to know what your team has achieved this season, the Rosebud performance aside? Scratching your heads? Fact - the Hillmen have failed almost every test it is had this season! It’s time to play with some free spirit. It’s time to move the ball quickly and give the forwards a chance, it’s time to stop riding on the coat tails of a select few who do all the work each week. The talent is there, no question. It’s time to execute. Devon Meadows continue to be gallant. Their top players have been sensational. However, their lack of depth hurts them when the game is there to be won. At home, Red Hill should win, however, I wouldn’t put one cent of my hard earned on it! CRIB POINT is coming off a great win last week and should go into its game against SOMERVILLE with a great degree of confidence. The Pies’ will be helped if Timmy Mcgennis and Billy Rolfe were not successful at the tribunal on Tuesday night. Somerville has been so close but yet so far this season but one feels they are building momentum under new coach Bevan Malloy. The Eagles were only going to improve the longer the season went on. It’s still well in the mix for a place in the finals and this should be enough to get them over the line. PEARCEDALE’S woes will continue this afternoon when it comes up against ROSEBUD. The Buds were really still last week in a game where they were the better team for the large majority. Losing Keegan Downie for a long period won’t help their cause, although they are still far better than Pearcedale. The Panthers just need to stick fat, be patient, support one another and continue to get games into their kids. RYE and DROMANA should be a cracker. The Demons have been a tough proposition for the most part at home this season and the Tigers will be looking to cement their place in the top bracket. Both teams are full of young exciting talent, along with some older, more experienced heads. The Tigers are on a roll though and it should be enough to get them over the line.

Club Notes

The U19’s came out firing against the Pearcedale Panthers. Harri “daddy” Dekleuver had the kicking boots on slotting 5 goals in what was a dominant display up forward whilst Khai Jones was equally impressive snagging 4 big ones. The team ran away with a 101 point victory. Next week poses a challenge for the side who will be looking to continue on with their good form when they come up against Somerville. The Reserves were coming off a disappointing loss to Rye and were eager to get back on the winners list. It was a tight contest all day but Crib Point kicked away late in the last and recorded their third win for the season finishing with a 26 point victory. Paul ‘Dabbsy’ Dadds and Brodie Hill both finished with 2 goals each and took strong contested marks all day whilst Ben “Ralph” Wigan also chipped in with 2 goals. Tyler Wilton and Tim ‘Mr Reliable’ Malcom were brilliant across the halfback line. It was the Panthers who got out of the blocks early however Crib Point established a 15 point lead to round out the half. First-gamer Will Larkin stood up kicking the sealer for the Magpies and providing the highlight of the day after having come up from the U19’s. The pointers ended the game 24 point victors. Ben King and Zak “Bart” Dekleuver put in good efforts in the ruck department whilst Brendan Phillips provided good run off of half back. It was a terrific day for the footballers having recorded 3/3 wins on a day that recognised and celebrated its past players.

Vale Kevin Spokes! The club was saddened with the passing of Kevin Spokes last week. Kevin past player, coach and was President of the club when we last won our last flag in seniors in 1986. He was a massive contributor to our great club. Condolences to the family and to the wider Somerville Sporting Community. The funeral will be held at Jones road on Tuesday June 27th at the club rooms. Last week we ventured down to local rivals Hastings, which was a crucial game for our senior grades. U19s struggled for 2 1/2 quarters but run away with the game in the 2nd half to score a 42 point win. The 2s once again undermanned battled hard, with their season they are only playing for pride, loss to the 3rd team by 5 goals. Hopefully a few boys return from injury and the team get some reward for the season. The 1s were fantastic all day. They jumped Hastings at the start and were in front until the start of the last quarter. When headed during the last by 2 goals we managed to draw level with last years premiers. The last few minutes were extremely tense and to be brutally honest some poor umpiring ended up seeing us falling short by the smallest of margins 1 point. It was a tremendous game by the boys and we hope that now half way point of the season it can kick start the remainder of our season. Today we are away again to Crib Point. Today’s trip to Pearcedale should provide all three senior teams with the opportunity to rebound from last week’s challenging day at Frankston – not to say that 4 points are ever easily come by against the Panthers! Adrian emphasised areas of strength and challenges after last week’s narrow loss against the Bombers and will no doubt want to see an improvement in our scoring efficiency from our forward entries. For 3 quarters the seniors were right in the game and at times looked to have Frankston on the ropes. Our running, tackling and pressure was much more intense, but this was not always evident on the scoreboard and left the Bombers with a sniff at the final change, which they took full advantage, aided by us being 2 men down before half time. The commitment of the whole team was reflected in the superb efforts of GB, Jake, Davo, Spoons, BT and Stevo. The development squad, though very depleted of numbers was right on their game, perhaps inspired by some extra onfield “experience”. The big fellows in particular were prominent all over the ground, Mewy, Schwindy, Fabulous, Flynn, Jordy and Lucky were dominant. It was always going to be a big challenge for our Unders against a much more physically mature side, however again Raph’s focus on improvement will no doubt be rewarded in the coming weeks. Make sure you lock in our next social function which is the Lip Sync night after the Somerville away game on 8 July. #HandsOffMPNFLFootyNetball! Go Buds!

IT’S ON AGAIN. By popular request the Jonathon Brown and Sam Pang Luncheon is reprising on Wednesday 20th September (AFL Preliminary Final week). Set the date aside as this will be an absolute smash. As was our Mega Money Day last Saturday, which was hugely supported. Another cracking social day for all involved and thanks to Harry and the weather gods it went like clockwork. Welcome to the Panthers who catch our seniors on the rebound after a less than ordinary performance against Dromana. Our 2’s also need to win well as they were displaced by Tyabb in the five over the Queen’s Birthday weekend. Unfortunately the unders have a forfeit-but it’s 10 on the bounce for Happy’s charges. Good news for our senior girls footballers. Common sense has prevailed and they have been put in the Development division. Good luck to Heath and the girls for the rest of the season. Heading on down to foggy town Red Hill this week, so brush up on your wine knowledge and get to know your Merlot from your Pinot before getting into conversation with the locals! The seconds nearly got us off to a ripping start last week, having a red hot crack against the undefeated $orrento $harks. They just got the better of us though and it was unfortunately no fairytale 300th game for Poss Hunter. The Seniors took some momentum from the ressies and had a ripping start to the game, leading the Sharks by 4 points at 1/4 time. The Sharks then kicked away in the next 3 quarters and showed us the kind of class you need to be at to win in this competition. Credit to the Sorrento players and fans for hanging around for a beer after the game though, there was a good number of red and white shirts in the rooms and it is much appreciated. Coming up soon is the comedy night - July 29 - Starring the Nelson Twins, CJ Fortuna and Chris Bennett. If you haven’t seen The Nelson Twins before, they are bloody hilarious so make sure you lock this in your diary! $30 SINGLE, $50 DOUBLE OR $250 FOR TABLE OF 10. Remember to get down also every Thursday night for a delicious meal and a couple of beers and listen to the sides get announced. Last week, the day started brightly, with the U/19’s having a big win, we know only too well how Tyabb is feeling with the lack of numbers, and we wish them all the best in the coming weeks, on getting more lads on the park. Dylan Allen up from the U/17’s kicked 7 majors, Gabe Nocella was back to his best with Linton Hardy, Cory Peterson and Jarrod Richards. Our reserves were pretty average, and boys, more effort, commitment and talk on the field, rather than off the field is what’s needed. At the moment too few are playing a team game and the results are well below what we expect, time to make actions count not words. The seniors had a tough game and credit to Tyabb on taking it right up to the boys, we only kicked clear in the second half, and it was great to record a 10 goal win. Adam Kirkwood was BOG, with the 2 Whitty’s Oscar and Harry, PoPo, Pistol Pete and Animal Cole. Congratulations to Ben Closter on making his senior debut. Ben is the 5th U/19 to debut this year and the 9th U/19 to play seniors this year. A speedy recovery to our other young gun in Harrison Richardson who copped a fractured eye socket in the seniors last week. Today we play Dromana for the O’Rourke / Matthews Trophy a trophy named in honour of 2 great men and recognising their outstanding contributions to their respective clubs. To our president Mick “Kicka” O’Rourke, we know there will be “no bones in the beer tonight”, if we can beat Dromana today and get your trophy back in the Rye FC cabinet

Our Round 10 clash against Rye for the O’RourkeMatthews Shield is sponsored by StuartHocking – Rosebud/Dromana. A win today will keep us a game clear from the pack in 5th spot and is vital to our finals aspirations. Round 9 saw our U19s and Reserves again fail to bring produce a win, however, the Senior team really showed what they are capable of by restricting Red Hill to 1 goal for the first half and four goals for the game while kicking 14 goals. A great way to take back the Bluey Holmes shield in front of a large crowd. This week our Senior Coach Rikki Johnston celebrates his 200th Senior game for the club and what a great career he has had. Four times club Best & Fairest, League Best & Fairest, Premiership Captain and MPNFL interleague captain for the last three years. Throw in VCFL representation plus two years at Langwarrin as playing assistant coach including a Best & Fairest as well as a Dromana Life Membership. Not bad for a player who spent what should have been his formative years as a footballer playing professional Baseball in the USA. All you can say is well done Rikki. The players revue night was a great success with a good time been had by those who attended. As always the club is looking for more volunteers for various areas around the club including on the Board. So if you feel you have something to contribute speak to our Secretary. It was a lovely trip to Devon last week, some in our BMW’s, some in our Mercs and some in our choppers. There were plenty of paddocks to land them in around the ground and with the late start due to no 19’s game, we could even squeeze in a latte on our way. Thanks to our friendly Devon scribe for the suggestion, in the unlikely event we’re passing through we’ll leave a tip. The Scoobs found themselves in a massive tussle but got the chocolates. With a number of players unavailable, some of the unders filled in and did a terrific job. The future of the club looks bright with these young Sharks showing they’re more than capable of matching it with the big boys. The seniors had everything thrown at them early and halfway through the first quarter one wondered this could be a boil over. It didn’t take long for the boys to settle though and record what was in the end a comfortable victory. David v Goliath, Ali V Frasier and road runner v Coyote are just some of the epic battles we’ve seen in our history. Well now you can add another Sorrento v Frankston at Shark Park. Whatever your plans put them on hold and make your way down along with the other 5000 people to watch what will be a local classic. What better celebration could the past Players and officials hope for. Thought of the week: “ Do not touch” must be the scariest thing to read in braille!

Welcome Bomber fans to the southern Peninsula where the 2nd placed Red & Black tackle the top of the ladder Sharks in the match of the day. It’s a terrific reflection on both clubs that we are at the sharp end of the ladder in all 3 grades & we need to be at our best to get 3 wins. Good luck to all! Last week the 1sts & 3rds scored good wins against quality opposition and the 2’s were shown that more work is required. Kinga, Kitch & Foxy continued their good form in the main game whilst in the Ressies Dean, Junior Batty & Benny T battled hard for us. Aaron played well again but we can’t use the line too often, even if it is club notes rolled gold. In the unders Tyson killed them with great support from Koby & Levi. Mirror, mirror on the wall who is the smartest Bomber of them all? We’ll find out tonight at our family trivia night where our brains will be teased over 8 rounds of fun questions, Come dressed as a footy fan, prizes for the best dressed, enjoy footy food & pick your best team of 8 of your smartest mates to finish on top of the ladder. Bendigo Community Bank Nepean Netball Preview Round 10 2017 Crib Point v Somerville And here it is! The game that we have been waiting for the last however many rounds. Both sides are yet to taste defeat in season 2017 and by the end of the day, one side’s hunger will grow substantially after tasting defeat. You cannot fault either side for the season so far. Crib Point have just continued their solid form from last year while Somerville has improved further from 2016 and really taken it to the next level, and today’s game will show how far they have come. This will be a cracking game to watch. Crib Point will get the tip but won’t be surprised if the Eagles take the game out.

Pearcedale v Rosebud Big game for the Dales today! A win here keeps their season alive with the slight chance of making finals. Their opponents Rosebud will have other ideas of their own and how to make sure they keep their finals chances alive. The Buds just lost to Frankston last week and will be looking to turn the result around. The Panthers will need to be at their best if they are going to beat Rosebud, but it’s more than likely that the Buds will take home the points this week.

Rye v Dromana Rye will be licking their wounds after being taught a netball lesson from Tyabb. Dromana has had an extra week to get over their loss to Red Hill the week before so this game shapes up to be a classic. Unsure of what to expect from Rye in the second half of the season, but the Demons will be making sure they have some more consistent wins as they continue to build back up the ladder. Dromana hasn’t had the best season to date, but now we are on the other side of the season maybe they can start building the foundations for a solid 2018 campaign. Rye to win at home.

Sorrento v Frankston Another tough week at the office for the Sorrento girls and this week won’t be any easier. While the Sharks are still refining their netball skills and game plan, Frankston has certainly changed their tune in 2017 and are looking to play finals. The Bombshells will be aiming to keep a gap between themselves and the likes of Red Hill and Rosebud. Frankston will win this weekend but let’s hope that Sorrento gives it a real red hot crack and push Frankston all the way.

Red Hill v Devon Meadows Red Hill has certainly turned around their season after a shaky start. The week’s rest will certainly keep Red Hill fresh and ready for Devon Meadows. The Meadows girls have had an up and down season and from the outside, you’re not sure which team will rock up each week. Like the Panthers down the road, this game is vital for Devon to win if they want any chance of playing finals. While Devon had a big win over Sorrento on the weekend Red Hill at the shearing sheds is always a tough ask. Red Hill to win at home.

Crib Point Magpies

In a bit of a step back with the results D grade unfortunately went down by 23 however the result did not reflect the game. It was even for most of the game our girls just got blown away a bit in the last quarter. Back in habit though Lesli takes out BOC with a stellar performance in shooter. C grade suffered their first loss of the season to a very newly improved Pearcedale. The girls fought back every quarter reducing the margin to just 1 during the last quarter but unfortunately Pearcedale held on securing their win by 2. Still sitting on top our girls will bounce back ready for a massive game against Somerville this week. BOC went to Amie for her solid performance in keeper. B grade seemed back into their strong form with a 44 goal win. Alicia took out BOC with a ripper job defence. The pressure down the court caused many turnovers showing a great team effort. The girls look set to take on their rivals this week. With A grade having 4 girls out some girls had to step up but that didn’t stop them fom having a 25 goal win. Credit to Molly, Holly, Brooke, Casey and Dobbo for making that leap. BOC went to Tessa who completely took control in defence and had an amazing game. With a very close rivalry in all grades of netball, both teams are going to be fighting till the last second to take that win! Let’s support all our girls in what will be an amazing four games of netball. Go Crib!

Thanks to Peninsula Cinemas this week, long time sponsors of the netball girls! U17’s this week finally had a win after a three week losing streak. They had a really great training session Thursday night and almost all of the things they worked on were carried out in the game. Everyone in the team played amazing and the game was hard to fault. Very proud of the girls of stepping up and coming out on top! C grade had a hard game against Devon Meadows. Our girls played well as a team but weren’t able to come away with a win. Anna and Ziggy were amazing in goals and were able to score from every opportunity they were given. Good effort from everyone on court this week and bring on next week. Amazing game played by the B grade girls this week our score definitely didn’t reflect how hard the girls played through out the game. Our defender Jen had a little turn in the goals with Emma this week and they played awesome together. Ruby played amazing in center getting the ball down to goals and with Macy using her footy skills in defence it really worked well with our game plan. Thanks to Emily and Brooke who stood up this week from C grade and helped us out.The A grade girls also played a great game, Bethany killed it in defence managing to get intercepts across the court, Tayla played a great game in the centre and was able to pass really well into the goals to help our fantastic shooters out. Devon Meadows Panthers

Pearcedale Panthers D Grade were off to a strong start with implementing everything they worked on at training to get the win, improving with every game is really amazing to watch. The game to watch was C grade, coming away with the win after the nail biting last 5 minutes which made both teams really fight for the win in a super closer game. B grade never game up unfortunately losing to Crib Point. They fought to the finish with a half time change up of positions to really push the girls from the defensive end all the way to the shooting end. A grade applied everything they had been working on at training to Saturdays game. The losing score didnt reflect how they game was played. Working on the consistency of our plays for next weeks game to bring home a win. A great day all round!

Sorrento Sharks

It’s hard to believe that come game day the U17s were struggling for numbers and with the bare 7 it was always going to be tough against a quality team. Sorrento started strong and our girls just couldn’t match it But to the girls credit they never gave up and tried their best to reduce the margin right to the last whistle. We’ve got some work to do to match it with the top teams but we have the talent to do it! Best on Sharni The C grade girls came away with the win and four consistent quarters this week! Yay! They set their bench mark high in the first quarter converting nearly every turnover that the defence and mid courters produced! The girls constantly talked to each other and worked hard on their system play- which made some pretty netball to watch. The girls have really started to become a tight unit and keep improving every game. BOC Jess

Bendigo Community Bank B grade books are back and we will have plenty to write about. The girls started strong putting the first 14 goals on the board and didn’t let off the entire game no matter the combination on court. Plenty of positives to take out of the game and into the next rounds. Hard to choose a best on this week as everyone played their role - Faith, great leadership & defensive pressure the entire game. With perfect weather conditions for netball A Grade came to play. We had 4 consistent quarters- achieving over 50 goals. Fantastic to see training drills incorporated into match play. Definitely moving in the right direction. BOC Bridgett

Frankston Bombshells We all know netball is the real winner but when you come away with 3 solid wins and 4 teams in the 4, the Bombshells come pretty close too. C grade set the pace early and came away with a comfortable win. With a super strong side Grace had the luxury of utilising her bench and getting lots of rotations through. Awesome work to the girls for adjusting seamlessly and making C grade look like a very well-oiled machine! Coming into the second half of the season it’s very exciting to see what their capable of! B grade also played around with some different possies and pulled off a 15 goal win against the Buds. Chloe-thecleaners-daughter-Sharman was extraordinary with her record amount of stepping calls, but let’s not try and beat that record next week… To our awesome A grade. Not only did you win and win impressively, you get around each other from the first whistle to the last. Strong takes across the court, incredible rebounding at both ends and chasing up those loose balls like running up to the bar when the tabs about the run out. Very proud! Finally this week’s best on’s: 1 vote: Paul Hocking for finally arriving to D grade on time to watch George and discovering the scratch match was cancelled 2 votes: for hashtag team girls and the Bombshells making national TV…again 3 votes: Hayleigh Hocking for inspiring our A grade from the side line and encouraging them to close the game down like the store Caminha. RIP Caminha.

Dromana Tigers Marking the half way of the season was a nice chance to have the week off and refresh. The second half of the season sees us play all 5 sides most weeks so we need to keep up the solid training sessions and the hard work. There has been a lot of positives to take out of our games so far but also some things we need to improve on so let’s bring the second half home strong. This week we are up against Rye has always been a good clash Go tigers

Rye Demons Last Saturday we travelled to Tyabb for what was expected to be are hard day on the courts. We started off with a great win in D grade beating Tyabb by 56 goals. Tamara was strong in the goal end and Miranda was fantastic in defence. All the girls worked hard and kept up their momentum throughout the whole game. It was very pleasing that the skills the girls are learning at training, are being well utilised in their game play. Best on court was Miranda Stewart. C Grade had a slow start, but worked hard to get within 2 goals at half time. Tyabb came out fighting and we ended up losing by 13 goals. Best on court was Sam Harris. Next up was B Grade. The girls worked hard, but were no match for the strong Tyabb unit. The girls remained positive throughout the game, but went down by 25 goals. Best on court was Sarah Tardio-Graham who was filling in from C grade. Great effort Sarah! A grade was always going to be a tough ask against the third placed Tyabb. The girls went into the game with a positive attitude and worked hard, but struggled against the strength of the Yabbies. Best on court was Sienna Wills. Congratulations to Sienna, who will be playing her 100th game for Rye today. We wish her well. Go Dees!

Hastings Blues A very chilly start to the day saw D grade up and about and ready to put their best game forward. Sheryn Mock once again in the gold shooter position was holding strong and finishing off shooting accurately. It was a real arm wrestle for most of the match with Fiona Kain’s enthusiasm and work rate a huge benefit to this team, continuing to lift her team mates throughout the match. D grades best match of the year so far just falling short of a win by 6 goals. C grade faced their biggest challenge of the year so far against ladder leaders Somerville. They definitely took it up them with Jaimi Gay and Grace Williams continuing their fantastic form in the goal circle finishing off the defenders hard work, but unfortunately couldn’t get the win. They achieved their highest score for the year so far against the top team and proved the hard work they are doing at training is paying off come game day. B grade lacked the fire power they needed when they also faced the top of the ladder team in Somerville. Somerville proved too strong and to be a very well drilled team with a great understanding of the game and combined very well as a team. Something for our newly formed team to strive towards. The biggest positive to come out of the B grade match was the fact that they scored the highest score more than any other club against them so far this season. Another week off for our club this week and then the run home.

A-Grade – It was bad luck for the team last week, a frustrating loss in what was a winnable game. We were behind all day and failed to take our opportunities and capitalise on them. A tough, physical game which we will expect to win next time. Award – Millie McDermot B-Grade – It was an amazing day for netball in sunny Frankston! Rosebud defenders were impressive working really hard and achieving several intercepts. Frankston centre court was solid making us really work to get the ball into our shooters. Our teamwork was better than ever and it’s great to see a group of girls showing each other so much encouragement and support. Our best player today was Indi in GS who I don’t think missed a shot all day!! Next award went to Mez in GD who had the best game of her season. C-Grade – Last week we came up against a strong, confident team in Frankston. We came into the game with a whole new attitude and came out firing. We had our second quarter yips about us but we pulled ourselves back into form and played out a great remainder of the game. As a team we backed each other, didn’t let our heads drop and continued to back our shooters. This week we come up against Pearcedale and I have so much faith in us as a team. Under 17s – no report (bye last week) Make sure you lock in our next social function which is the Lip Sync night after the Somerville away game on 8 July. #HandsOffMPNFLFootyNetball! Go Buds!

What an amazing game our under 17s had against Dromana today. Probably the best game they have played. They went down by 2 but deserved the win. I was so impressed their efforts this week . Keep it up girls. D grade had a great game, to see Asha step up from the 17s in GS and combine with Liv to create strength in the goal ring was awesome. Saashas speed created many turnovers. It was pleasing to see another U/17 girl, Laila play a great game in defence. Everyone played their role well which resulted in a terrific win! Again with a depleted C grade the U/ 17 girls stepped up, Grace had a strong game in GS. Kitty and Evie were very strong in defence & created many turnovers . Mollie came into goals and had an excellent 3rd quarter & the scores were level. Unfortunately we didn’t come away with the win , but a great effort by all! B Grade overcame a 9 goal deficit at quarter time, to 6 at half time, 4 at the end of the third and came home strong to win by 11. Well done girls, you stuck to our game and worked hard as a team! Awesome work in the mid court girls again with positional changes all game. Onto the next round girls. A Grade continued our season with versatile players moving from goals into defense and a different mid court every quarter. We continue to build player diversity to ensure we have options when required. Top four not far away now girls, keep working hard!

Somerville Eagles

Last round saw us take on Hastings in what was another really successful day for Somerville Netball. The D grade started the chilly day off with their second win for the season! The girls showed so much improvement both as individuals and as a team. The girls put in 100% for the whole game and it showed on the scoreboard. The C team also had a good win. After the first quarter they picked up some intensity and played strong competitive netball. They focused on the little things that needed to be done to better their game and they definitely achieved that! The B girls faced a tough Hastings side but after a slow start, they settled into their game and also came away with a goof win. There were some fantastic passages of play when the call came down the court on a turnover and the hands over pressure allowed us to get lots of tips. The A girls didnâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t have a game this week but it was great to see them down at Hastings cheering on the rest of the club. Today we face Crib Point in what will be 4 really tough games however we are hoping to continue our strong form and give Crib Point a run for their money. GO EAGLES!!!!!
