Almost a full board of game’s being played this weekend, as Dromana and Red Hill played their round 9 games last Sunday.

As we are fast approaching the halfway point, it is important to remember to take care of your volunteers. The people in your club that run around each week putting out the bins, setting up the canteen, sewing up the jumpers, stuffing advertising into the record, are the real heart and soul of our clubs. Take a moment to think about how you could take over one of these jobs at your club to help. There are plenty of ways to help. Just ask someone who is doing a job while you are standing around drinking your coffee or sitting warmly in your car waiting for the game to start. Thank you to all our volunteers. You help because you love your club and without you, the costs of running a club would be much higher. The annual ‘Women in Sport’ luncheon is on once again Friday 21st July. This year’s special guests are Susan Alberti AC, Sports Journalist Caroline Wilson and AFL W Coach of Collingwood FC Wayne Siekman. Bendigo Community Bank VIC COUNTRY ANNOUNCES INCLUSION SQUAD AFL Victoria has finalised its Vic Country representative squad ahead of the 2017 AFL National Inclusion Carnival next month. Twenty of country Victoria’s best players with disability, including four emergencies have been chosen to don the Big-V jumper as they prepare to take on the top talent from across the country. Selection comes following a training session which saw over 40 regional players showcase their skills at Bendigo’s Epson Huntly Reserve yesterday. Six AFL Victoria Region Commissions are represented in the final squad, with AFL North East Border (six), AFL Western District (four), AFL Wimmera Mallee (three) and AFL Goldfields (three) boasting the most representatives. In addition, all nine country community FIDA (Football Integration Development Association) clubs are represented, with players hailing from both the CVGT Australia Northern Conference and Western Conference. Leading the squad again for the second consecutive year is coach Matt Deegan who will be keen to improve on Vic Country’s third place result from last season. Held on the Gold Coast this year, the National Inclusion Carnival is a week-long competition for footballers with an intellectual disability to compete for their state in a National Championships. For the first time, all states and territories will have a team represented in the competition, with squads from the Northern Territory and Western Australia joining regular competitors Queensland, Tasmania, South Australia, NSW/ACT, Vic Metro and Vic Country. AFL Victoria FIDA Football and AAA Programs Manager, Tim Nield said the 2017 Vic Country squad is a true reflection of the best regional talent in the state. “This year we are delighted to be able to have a representative from each of our nine country FIDA clubs, which is a great achievement for all the hard work and dedication of not only the players, but their local coaches and clubs,” Nield said.

Football Preview Bombers to beat Buds By Toe Punt Frankston Bombers and Rosebud is without question the most intriguing of the Nepean Division games this afternoon. With a weekâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s rest to recharge, both teams should be ready to crack in from the first bounce this afternoon. After eight rounds of footy, the Bombers have just the one blemish to their record, a narrow loss against the Barry Hall-inspired Pearcedale on Good Friday. Rosebud has two losses, both at home to Sorrento and Red Hill. Both teams have made light work of reigning premiers Hastings. The Buds have a real opportunity today to stake a claim for a top three position. It has a game up its sleeve over third placed Hastings and could jump the Blues with a win. In terms of the stats, there is very little separating the sides. Frankston has kicked 70-odd more points than the Buds (795 to 719) this season while there is just one point separating the teams defensively (429 to 428). Both teams defend very well. Both teams press extremely well and make it extremely difficult for opposition teams to get it out of their own defensive zone.

In terms of sheer talent, the Bombers have the upper hand, especially defensively, where Beau Muston, Ryan Marks-Logan, Nathan Lonie, Jarryd Amalfi and Corey Buchan lead the charge. The Bombers also have super midfield depth with the likes of Mitch Bosward, Dale Sutton and Sam Fox and in attack, there is danger with Jay Reynolds, Scott Foster and Zac Longham. The ruck duel should be a ripper with Ben Dywer up against Ryan Kitchen. Keegan Downie and Matt Baker are keys in attack for the Buds and Sean Downie, Greg Bentley and Jack Jarman are all in super form for the Buds through the middle. In the corresponding game last season, the Buds could not have played any worse but they were not beaten badly. There is a lot on the line today and the right outcome is important to both teams. TYABB would have marked down their game against RYE this afternoon as one that they could potentially win. Form alone though suggests that this could be a wish more than a reality. The Yabbies just havenâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t performed to expectations whilst Rye seems to have exceeded expectations. Last Saturday against Sorrento, Rye had 13 players under the age of 21, six Under 19s running around and an Under 17.

Football Preview Coach Josh Moore said after the thumping to Sorrento that he couldn’t be “more proud” of his young group. “They (the young players) have certainly exceeded my expectations this season and they have really been a key reason to us winning games – it’s the young guys that continue to step-up,” Moore said. Today is another challenge for the young Rye team, to win a game it is expected to win. The most intriguing thing to come out of the Hastings v Somerville game this afternoon will be David ‘Budda’ Hirst going-up against his former team. After a number of years coaching the Eagles, Hirst landed at Hastings well into the season, much to the shock of many. Hirst has had an immediate impact on the Blues forward half and stints through the middle. Whilst Hastings would be keen to forget its last outing, where it was touched-up by Rosebud, it needs to be better than that today. Somerville has a crack! It’s not blessed with the superstars it had in previous seasons but they are playing for one another. The key for the Eagles today is to hang in there. It’s lapses of concentration for 15 minutes in a game that is hurting it. Four quarters and they are right in it! DEVON MEADOWS host the juggernaut that is SORRENTO.

Football Preview The Sharks have been ruthless in matches this season and to be honest, they are the most intimidating side in the competition that we have seen in a long time. Even at their best in the past, there was always a query on their defensive side of their game. They have no weakness in 2017 – so far! Chris Dawes and Leigh Poholke have booted 33 goals each and Nick Corp is a super athlete. They are a formidable attack and there’s loud whispers than Myles Pitt is due to make a return. This will allow Corp to play in the ruck, where he is more damaging. Their midfield of Zac Byrns, Luke Tapscott, Leigh Treeby etc etc is one of the best in the business and then the backline hosts the quality of Schwarze, Hallahan, Grant, Paxton and co. The Panthers have been brave so far this season but three losses in a row has proven that they are not quite up to the mark. Top end talent at the den is super but quality of depth is finding them out. It’s going to be a tough day in the office for the Meadows this afternoon. CRIB POINT and PEARCEDALE should be a cracker. There is no reason at all that both teams should not go into this game thinking they are a red hot chance to win it. The Pies have really struggled this season while the Dales have slipped after a great start to the year.

The Under 19’s played in slippery conditions in the morning but it didn’t stop them recording another win. Daniel Henry dominated across half back and Crib Point were well on top in the middle with slick ball movement despite the wet conditions. The Pies finished the morning with a comfortable 49 point victory and they continue to gel and build momentum this season. Best players were Joel Wisken, Harri Dekleuver, Daniel Henry, Jack Hill, Will Larkin and Joshua Fenwick. After a great win last week the Reserves unfortunately fell back into old habits and never truly showed up. The Demons were first to the ball all across the ground and they seemed to want it more than the Pies. The 2’s never fired a shot and rolled over in the last as Rye finished with a 31 point victory. Ethan Smith and Tyler Wilton were brilliant all day while Danny ‘Deckchair’ Vercoe and Tim ‘Mr.Reliable’ Malcom worked tirelessly for the Pies. The Seniors started off exactly how Coach Brad Arnold wanted them to, getting out to an early 4 goal lead. Luke Herrington set the tone and was sensational early but Rye settled and came back at the Pies. Crib begun to blaze away and were sloppy with footy, no longer sticking to their structures and they stopped taking the game on. Crib Point kept coming at the Demons but couldn’t make up the difference as Rye finished with a 22 point win. Elliot Avis was outstanding in his first senior game at Crib Point. David Cook brother of Tim Cook is continuing his good form.

Today the male footballers and our netballers head down to Crib Point after a week of rest after playing the reigning Premiers. Congratulations to the Unders on a great win! Today let’s get up and go and show them some Pearcedale spirit. The PFNC Women’s team are at home today against Bass Coast at 10am. Should be a ripper game. Good luck to the girls, coach Steve and his team. Looking forward to the day we all can play at home on the same day on July 1. The Dales social calendar is about to go off! After the game today we have the Annual Ball at Settler’s Run Golf Club. A HUGE thanks to Mandy and her team for their organisation. Looking forward to seeing everyone in their finest. Back at home today, hope everyone had a good long weekend and we welcome the Sorrento Football Netball Club to our neck of the woods. With all the current goings on at league headquarters, this may well be the last time we play the Sharks for awhile so lets make it one to remember and send the BMW’s back down the Peninsula Link with a loss and tail between their legs. Bit of a celebration today of 2 club legends - Ryno Atwood who played his 200th a few weeks back (avid readers of this column would have read all about his contribution to the club a couple of weeks ago) and of course the one and only Craig “Possum” Hunter who racks up his 300th senior game. I’m not sure any words do justice to Poss, his honour roll speaks for itself with 3 x senior B&Fs and a Reserves B&F, as well as being an ex-coach and also crucial member of the inaugural DMFNC Premiership side a couple of years back. A true clubman, he always has time to chip in around the place, never shies away from sticking around for a beer and continues to supply all the trophies for the club year in, year out. He is a true gentleman and we are very proud and lucky as a club to have Poss as one of our own. Stick around after the game, the beer is always cold in Flano’s Bar and we also have acoustic music and quality fresh cooked meals to save you cooking at home. Upcoming Function - July 29th - Comedy Night - Was a highlight of the year last year so don’t miss out on the 2017 instalment! Go Meadows!

Nearly the perfect day last week with Reserves’ and Seniors continuing their unbeaten runs, but the 19’s going down in a tough tussle. Every game becomes huge for the unders now if they want to keep the season alive. Our best footy has matched it with the top teams but when off the boil we struggle. Keep our heads up, stay positive and find a way to compete more consistently in the second half of the season. The Scoobs got off to a flyer, then were tested before settling and coming away with a comfortable victory. The belief and confidence continue to grow and again we saw a nice blend of youth and experience. The tests continue to come though and today will be no different. We’re not going to Devon Meadows to come away without a victory. Whatever it takes guys to get the job done. The seniors were good in the first half but stepped it up in the second. Special mention to Dawesy with his 10, a super effort. We’ve got here by doing the right things consistently so let’s make sure that doesn’t change. Every week is a big week so stay focused and keep ticking the boxes. Today it’s the panthers, a team that will bite if we give them a sniff. We’ve only got to go back 12 months if you have any doubts about that. Let’s bring the A game today. Thought of the week: At what point does it stop being partly cloudy and become partly sunny!

Welcome back to the Bomber family after missing our hit of local footy last weekend. There was a void in our weekend without Fooey barking orders in the 19’s backline or watching our runner who could not run out of sight in a dark night, even in his hi viz! It’s priceless to see Fee unable to sit in the coaches box as the wallet under his right cheek is too fat after his win. It’s not the weekend unless we see Travy in his pretty underwear & great to see the White clan dominating our womens footy team from B to Z. We love our 8 point senior game against Rosebud who are 4th and challenging hard. Our boys will be supported by the loudest voices on the Peninsula led by “Go Bomber” Ruley who is always up & about with Noel providing both the Buds players & the umpires the benefit of his knowledge & experience. Who hasn’t missed Fults, the Saint with the Pies fan smile & his club notes or Darge & Phantom debating whose shout it is. One positive was that Julie Wishart did get a week off from Darren getting home late & damaged then blaming the Jokers. It’s been 2 long weeks since we heard Lance, Swanny & Zachy pump up the Tiges - gotta love optimists. Club legend Clarkson says he has trained off with an extra 1kg per year out of football so that should be 38 grams more Marty since our last game. Batty’s back & multi tasking with countless jobs to make our club great. This is our community sport, we love everything & everybody involved. Enjoy your day @ the footy and GO BOMBERS

If you were a bit put off by the trip north today to Bomberland you will be happy to know your Club’s Committee has taken issue with the idea that we become part of a competition with travel distances that make Devon Meadows look like a drive to the local shops. But let’s not detract from the enjoyment & challenge of today! The Bombers always make us welcome and all 3 games today are between sides looking to establish themselves as finals (of the grand variety) contenders. The senior Buds and Bombers sit 4th and 2nd respectively, we both beat Hastings, they haven’t played Sorrento yet. Recent performances would suggest our young side is a much better team than it was at the end of March. Statistically our backs are as tight as Frankston (& Sorrento), Seb, Daniel, Stevo, Davo, Peggy and new comers this year - Big Fish and Bart are as good as any. Junior champs Tom, Sean and Fletch are better every week. Our mids BT, GB, Payney, Spoons and Jack have been in top form. Down forward Keegan makes every contest, Matty has developed a taste for goals and recently Jake and Benny have picked up a few. The Development Squad can really announce itself today with a win – going a game clear of the Bombers – on their turf! Again our clean skills (think Mewy, Trav, Jordan and Jonsie), depth, line strength and scoreboard pressure will be the problem for the Bombers. The Unders will be up against a more mature side but our improvement makes us a different proposition to pre – season. Go Buds!

Today we welcome our local rival Somerville FNC, in what should be a great day of football. Our club is coming into this round after having the bye. The previous week we played Pearcedale at pearcedale, our senior boys played a terrific brand of football after half time to come away with a 10 goal victory. Today the boys are going to have be switched on from the start, and play our brand of footy to get the result, good luck boys we are all right behind you. Our reserve side is travelling along very nicely under the little maestros tutelage Dan Lehnman, coming off a good victory in the previous round the boys are looking forward to today’s challenge. Our Unders will be looking to improve their output today which l’m sure they will be able to achieve, work hard boys the rest will take care of itself. Welcome back! After a week off with the Queen’s birthday weekend we venture down to Hastings. We are now in the midst of tough games with games against 3 of the 4 top sides in the next month. If we are any chance of making finals we need positive results. The club played Dromana just before break and bar the U19s who won easily, both reserves and seniors were very poor. The reserves were jumped at the start and never recovered and they lost to a team who previously had not won a game. The season is just about shot for them, poor numbers on the track reflects poorly on the field. The backline stuck firm again with Harry and Lachie repelling as much as they could, but once again no forward to kick goals. A tough challenge awaits them this week. The seniors was terribly disappointing. More scoring shots 27 to 23 our second bad kicking for goal game, cost us again the 4 points. This game and the Devon game where our kicking for goal was just as terrible will come back and haunt us! Soppy continued his excellent season and it was great to see Jake Neuch and Jack Skinner play excellent games first up. Today we come against the team who had everything fall there way in the finals last year and showed the league what a committed group they were to go on and win the flag. If we are to be taken seriously we must put in a massive effort today. Don’t forget Function tonight back at the rooms, also 125th Reunion July 8th and the Annual Ball on July 15th. - Elwin Snr

Another big challenge for our snr 22 against the very talented Rosebud team. With 7 changes to our seniors, we had a couple of boys play their first game in the snrs. Congrats to u/19 Zach Cookson who got the call up and showed he has the ability to play snr football. Also in for his first game was Jordan Crossely who was given the job on Downie a huge task & he gave his all. We pushed hard for the entire game & played some good football in patches, our pressure and effort was another step in the right direction. Solid contributors last game from Ransom, Sparks Pollard, Underwood & Connell. Reserves: Coming up against our third top two team in a row we knew it was going to be another hard game. When Rosebud jumped out of the blocks with 3 quick goals it looked to be real tough but the side fought back strongly to answer with three in a row ourselves. At half time we were still in the game only two goals down but werenâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t playing anywhere near our best. This showed in the second half as the opposition proved to be too fit and fast for us and ran out easy victors in the end. This weekend Jake Anderson brings up his 100th Senior & Club game. Debuting in 2011 he has become a key member of our club as a past captain & committee member & kicking 114 goals. Lachlan West brings up his 50th Club game. A silky skilled left footer who rarely misses training and can be relied upon each week to be a consistent performer. NIP! NIP!

It was our big local derby against Sorrento last week. The day started very positive indeed, with the Under 19’s needing to win to keep their finals hopes alive. With injuries to the senior side and some of the Under 19 boys already playing seniors, they went into the game with 6 boys unavailable due to playing seniors. A call of arms, to the Junior Club, had 4 U/17 boys play up, and didn’t that go well. Winning by 27 points and keeping Sorrento goalless until the last seconds of the game. Campbell Robbins up from the under 17’s was BOG, closely followed by McLeod Jamieson, Big Benny Closter. Gabe Nocello and another 2 Under 17 boys in Max Scharpenack and Zach Jennings. The reserves were never really in the game, a minnie fight back had them in the game at ½ time, however a poor second half, where we only kicked 1 goal was very disappointing. Good to see James Appleford back from injury, he was our best player, along with Mitch Hillyear, Doogie Howie and Steve Tweedly down back. Nath Hardy and Josh Cameron battled hard. The seniors went into the game with 2 big outs from the previous weeks win against Crib Point, Jye Lloyd and Dayne Thomson. With 6 Under 19 boys in the side, it was the youngest side we had put out on the ground this year. We were competitive early, but as the game wore on, we were well beaten by a more experienced Sorrento side. A fair few positives on the day, Joel Wills best for us, Nick Rowson again in the best. Don’t Blink Twice…Or Else You Might Just Miss It… Occasionally...or just every so often what we call a miracle occurs. And guess what? Saw one last week… Was having a bit of a wander around training the other night and out the corner of the eye something strange occurred. Not satisfied with the glimpse a full blown stop and head turn was required. There’s a lot of mythical creatures that society claims to have seen over the stretch of time. Unicorns…Yeti…Loch Ness Monster…An inviting Mother-In-Law. But never, no not once in ancient or modern history had there ever been a sighting quit like this… On the SUA track, smack bang in the middle of Kananook Oval was a goal umpire. But not just any goal umpire. It was a goal umpire engaged in training. But there’s more…he wasn’t just stretching his index finger…or performing bicep curls under the weight of a hotdog or two. He was actually running. Exerting physical energy. Sprinting down the guts of the ground quicker than some of those so called freak-fitness field umpires. But it doesn’t stop there either. He had mates…goal umpiring mates…a truck load of them. Enough to absolutely shatter any kind of sales record of a large hotdog company. And every single one of them sprinting the line (think that’s what it’s called), darting in and around agility poles to show off their discreet food platter snatching techniques and squats and lunges to ensure core strength to keep the lowest point of gravity for those ever so frequent (and hilarious) slips in the muddy goal squares. That all doesn’t even include the extensive skill drill regime to guarantee some seriously damn good looks while straddling that goal line and invading the tall slender goal post’s personal space.

Allegedly it’s been going on all year. That’s what the jungle drums say. Ask any goal umpire though and they reckon they’ve been genuinely training since the turn of time. Flag were first waved to signify goals in games back in 1887. Who in the world of common sense is going to believe they actually moved, yet alone ran, all the way back then? Still puzzled about the whole situation? Think this is just one of those folklore porkies that grows in dramatics around the warmth of a campfire while downing a soothing liquid and toasting marshmallows? Well it still might be… Mythical creatures aren’t real…Miracles don’t actually happen…Or do they? Bendigo Community Bank Nepean Netball Preview Round 9 2017 Crib Point v Pearcedale Both sides will be keen for a game of netball after last weekend off. Crib Point will look to continue their undefeated season, while Pearcedale will be looking for their second win of the season. Unfortunately for the Panthers, the magpies new home court is a hard place to travel and win at, so they will have to pull out all the tricks if they are to beat Cribby at home.

Devon Meadows v Sorrento The Meadows girls will be excited to get back out on the court this week and get a win. And like wise for the Sorrento girls, who did play last Saturday and with that maybe some momentum is all the Sharks need to win their first game in 2017. It will be a close game but Devon Meadows should win.

Frankston v Rosebud Itâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s a do or die game for these two teams. Sitting 5th (Rosebud) and 6th (Frankston) and the same amount of points with only percentage separating them. The team who wins will stay in touch with the top four while the loss will mean it will take that little extra effort to make finals. Should be a fantastic game to watch, with Frankston to just get over the line at home.

Tyabb v Rye The Yabbies have certainly stepped things up. And with last weeks bye will have them refreshed and ready to go! Rye are coming off a Queenâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Birthday victory and will be looking to continue that winning feeling. But playing Tyabb at the pond is always a big game and Rye will have to be at their best to win this one.

Sorrento Sharks Special thanks to Marlo Spa for their sponsorship of the girls!! A tough game for the u17s last week. After a great first quarter they were up by a few goals but 2nd quarter intensity dropped and many errors were made giving Rye the opportunity to get ahead. Massive thanks to Bridgette and Jazzy for stepping in for some of the injured players. Bridge played an amazing game with many intercepts, which unfortunately could not be translate down the court. C grade played a great game, although Rye were too strong in the end. We welcomed Jaari to the team this week and she played an awesome first game. Everyone on the court played a great game showing the future potential for the team, although our C graders haven’t won any game this season they haven’t once given up and held their heads high and should be very proud. B team played an amazing game with Macy & Jen holding the game together with their great defence. Ebony and Ruby did a great job passing balls into the shooters, the girls have been working hard and it has paid off, well done girls and can’t wait for another strong game this week! Our A Graders played an outstanding game! The Spaul sisters killed it in goals, shooting from every angle. Tayla didn’t stop running and delivering the ball into the ring. Every girl on the court gave it their all and never gave up. Well done girls, the score slipped away at the end but it was great game by all. GO SHARKS!!

Devon Meadows Panthers What a day against the bombshells, a lot of close games! D grade came out with a win, beating the team with poll position on the ladder. The girls did everything they had worked on at training and it really payed off. They are working hard and getting stronger by the week! Boc Kat Johnson

The C grade girls game was going to be tough against the bombers from the get go! The girls played goal for goal with the fast pace right through to when the last time went off. The girls should be super proud of their effort with only going down by 4 goals considering the low team number we had for the game! The girls will be ready next time we meet and will continue to improve on their consistency in every quarter. BOC Nel & Kara 90% accuracy! B grade started slow and for the first 3 quarters it seemed like we just couldn’t make inroads on the 5 goal deficit despite having as much of the ball as the Bombshells. The last quarter the girls were asked to play without fear, be relentless and it payed off. We reduced the deficit to one and looked like we were going to come away with the win. The last few minutes we let this type of play slip and ended up going down by 4. Plenty of promising signs! BOC - Amy, strong and steady Despite not getting a win A Grade put in great effort with 4 consistent quarters. Very pleased to see the training drills being put into the game. Defensive pressure was impressive and our conversion rate increased. Another step in the right direction. BOC Alana

Frankston Bombshells Wow it was early; 9am as we took the court It was utterly frost ridden, what a fun winter sport Play netball they said, as our eyes tried to adjust Sunny, but 3.4 degrees, we were quite nonplussed D grade was set to be a thriller One plays two, but turned out Devon was a killer Devon’s side was accurate, strong and consistent Unfortunately we had to make so many changes Sezzy needed an assistant And although we weren’t quite sublime And heads were up and hopefully we will get them next time Heading into C grade it was third versus second Neck and neck into half time, a close game beckoned A bit of blood and a dislocated shoulder wasn’t going to stop us Finally holding onto a narrow lead without too much fuss Our B grade win wasn’t the prettiest of affairs And without our Sezzy centre we played a bit of musical chairs Blair was eddy everywhere and picked up all those loose ball dregs Thank goodness the final whistle went before we ran out of legs A grade got back on the winners list With good transitions and goalers that barely missed Pol and Grace had hands on everything that got close And Bev and Musto kept their goalers on their toes And although we’ve had the week off, theres no signs of slowing As we take on Rosebud, lets keep the wins on going!!

Pearcedale Panthers It was a cold day down at the Panther Pride Lands the other week when the girls took the court against Hastings Blues. On a roll from previous weeks, our D Grade was first up for the day and took the game head on. Although they found it difficult not to slow down the game to Hastingâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s erratic pace, they had some superstar defence shine through. Special mention to Bronnie who held her own against a much taller opponent and won the ball back countless times for her team. Next up was a very pumped up C Grade who have been smashing out games for the past few weeks. The vibe on court was upbeat and the game seemed to just flow in their favour as they worked their way to a 43 goal win. Well done to Brookey who moved well in the goal ring and shot accurately all day. B Grade was up for the final game of the day and were keen to not let themselves be the only loss for the day. The game was hard fought and close throughout the whole match. Scoring ebbed and flowed from both teams with some brilliant passages of play and nitty gritty defense on both ends. Pearcedale thought they were home, being 4 goals up with 2 minutes to go but Hastings never gave up and shot the last goal of the game to end the day taking home 2 points each. A big congratulations to Molly Marshall from C Grade who played her 50th game today at only 18 years of age- a great effort from a girl who contributes positive vibes around the club at all times. Congratulations Molly!

Tyabb Yabbies Last round we came up against Rosebud in a successful day for the Yabbies. Starting with D Grade, Dee really turned things around and had a great attitude the entire game. Doing everything that was asked of her, it was a confidence building game for the young Yabby. Itâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s becoming a weekly occurrence that Jayde stands out in C Grade. Once again she was everywhere in attack and defence and never gives up, giving 100% in every contest. Lace had her best game of the year and capitalised on the great full court pressure we applied by taking some great intercepts and deflections. In B Grade, Rhi was back from holiday and was obviously feeling nice and refreshed. Incredible with the amount of ball she turned over for us and her drives in attack were outstanding A grade best on was Watto. Rock solid at the back and kept the Rosebud attackers second guessing every move they went. Today we meet up with long-time rival, Rye. With a history of talent taking the court for the Demons we had better be ready to step up to the challenge. Tonight we celebrate at our mid-season ball. NIP! NIP!

We had a successful day last weekend for the Queen’s birthday clash with Sorrento. The U17s had their first win for the season, beating Sorrento by 5 goals. The girls played a great game with Shannon being named best on court. C Grade played a super game winning by 27 goals. The defenders killed it and the young guns stepped up in the centre court. Best on court was Maddie. B Grade had a tight game with Sorrento pushing the girls right until the end. A good last quarter saw us come out on top by 7 goals. Best on court was Ingrid. Our A graders worked hard all through the game. They worked as a team and game out with a 20 goal win. Best on court was Sienna. A positive day for all and we showed what we can achieve when we all work together. Go Dees!

D grade put a good challenge for three of the four quarters. Lots more hard work to do on the training track though, Keely Gay continued her strong form in defence, with Fiona Kane backing her up. Consistency in the attack end is the challenge for D grade and converting the defenders hard work into scores on the board. C grade grade struggled against a strong opposition from the very first centre pass, scoring 2 goals in a half is not a good feeling. Brooke Truel’s hard work at the training over the last couple of weeks paid off with her earning best on court. B grade was a huge arm wrestle for most of the match. Pearcedale was just on top for most of match, with the Hastings girls continuing to challenge throughout the match. Taylah Strange and Tash Green were relentless in defence in the last quarter and Emma Smith came back on after having a quarter off and finished off their hard work. The result ended in a 35 all tie, a good result after looking like facing a loss at the three quarter time break. Looking forward to a break this week and be fresh ready to face a tough Somerville opposition.

Crib Point Magpies

In what was their best game of the season, our D graders put on an amazing performance against Rye fighting till the absolute last minute in a heartbreaking loss of 1 goal! Our girls had a great first half, lost their pace a bit in the third and came out firing in the last quarter to make up a 7 goal margin and to get in front by 1 goal. The girls showed so much hunger and fight for the ball it was truly amazing but in the last few seconds Rye sealed the game with one goal. BOC went to Christie for her great drives and passes. C grade had a routine day down at Rye winning by 28 goals. Stacey received BOC for her best game of the season in WD. The girls showed no sign of stepping off their pace during the game proving their top spot. B grade looked comfortable against Rye in all sections of the court keeping the game on their terms winning by 26. BOC went to Dobbo for her great drives into the ring and fluent movement in the attack end. A grade was missing a few but that didn’t stop them with a 54 goal win! With Belinda on her honeymoon and Dionne out Alicia and Holly Adams stepped up into A grade and slotted in nicely. Mix and matches of positions showed nothing but efficiency up and down the court. BOC went to Adrienne for an amazing game in GD and C! HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to Leah who played her last game as a Moncrieff against Rye and now is Leah Swagemakers from here on! Taking on Pearcedale at home this week will be tough but let’s aim for 4 wins! GO CRIB!

Rosebud Buds A-Grade – A grade’s intensity this week was very pleasing to watch. Although the scoreline was heavily against us, we stuck to our game plan and stayed unified as a team. Thanks to our players who came up from B grade and thankyou to our supporters. Awards - #1 Beth Leach, #2 Tracey Snooks B-Grade – With quite a few regulars out last week we had quite a different team with a few of us also playing out of position. But the team morale stayed strong so credit to our amazing team of girls. They backed each other and worked hard but unfortunately the Tyabb girls came out with the win. Well done to them and thanks for a nice game. Well done to Amy & Casey for winning our game day awards. C-Grade – It was a big game against a quality side in Tyabb. We played a great all round game all up and down court. Defensive pressure the whole way was perfect. We had our typical 2nd quarter blues but pulled it back to make a brilliant contest. Our shooters were on fire and are showing the reason why they are in the top 10 shooters for our grade. Well done girls, super proud. Last round saw us host Dromana at the Nest. It was a super day for Somerville Netball Club, it was our first clean sweep! The D girls got their first win for the season and boy did they deserve it. Everyone played their part and gave it their all. There was great hands over pressure the entire game, the girls should be really proud of their efforts. The C girls also had a fantastic win. Having such a diverse team worked beautifully as changes could be made and the combinations all worked. The defenders played an awesome game and the mid court fed the ball to the goalers really well. The B girls continued their form coming away with a win. It was a tough game but the girls put into practice what they had been working on at training and it showed on the scoreboard. The A girls worked hard and brought the ball down the court quickly to their goalers who showed great form. They also came away with a great win. This week we play Hastings in what will be 3 tough games, fingers crossed for another clean sweep! GO EAGLES!!
