1st July 2017 – It’s okay not to be okay Round 8th July 2017 - Pink Round 29th July 2017 – Multicultural Round Best of luck to all sides for this weekend.

Suicide on the Mornington Peninsula is unfortunately all too common. We are trying to do everything we can to raise awareness and help break the stigma attached to mental health issues. Round 11 across the MPNFL is official ‘It’s okay, not to be okay’ round. Blue is the official colour of the round with all clubs encouraged to deck themselves out in these colours. Frankston Bombers will be playing the Somerville Eagles on this day. The team that wins this match will be presented with the “Bennez Cup” by Paul Hocking who tragically lost his 22-year-old son Ben Hocking to suicide in 2016 (a former Somerville Eagles player). All money raised across the games will be donated to Lifeline. On a lighter note, the annual ‘Women in Sport’ luncheon is on once again Friday 21st July. This year’s special guests are Susan Alberti AC, Sports Journalist Caroline Wilson and AFL W Coach of Collingwood FC Wayne Siekman. Dandenong Southern Stingrays “JETS NO MATCH FOR POISONOUS STINGRAYS” The Dandenong Southern Stingrays endured swirling winds whilst hosting five new debutants to come home with a comfortable 76-point win over the Western Jets on Sunday, 16.16 (112) to 5.6 (36). The Stingrays were menacing in the second half by not allowing the Jets to get a sniff on the scoreboard, by only allowing one goal whilst adding 13 majors of their own. Dandenong benefitted from a wide spread of goalkickers, with Tom Freeman 3 goals, Dylan Morris, Toby Bedford, Corey Ellison and Fin Bayne all managing a pair of majors each, with five other Stingrays also slotting goals. Freeman and Bedford were the pick of the forwards, with both applying significant pressure across the halfforwards to force the Western defence into making errors. Riley Darcy also had a great day out, playing as the primary lead-up key forward and clearly relishing the opportunity. Through the middle, Bailey Morrish and Mitch Cotter had a day out, with brilliant support from the likes of first gamer Jack McHale, Mitch Riordan and the hard working Ali Zijai. Down back, however, was where the Stingrays really shone. Jesse Davies gave his best performance of the year across the back flanks, while stand in Captain Lachlan Young move into defence continued to be one of the masterstrokes of the year. And after a best-on-ground performance last week, Bailey Morrish would have undoubtedly put his hand up for back-to-back honours with another gritty performance from the centre. Stand-in coach Nick Cox (who once again this week took the reigns to further develop his coaching skills) was pleased with the final result. “In tricky conditions, like today with the wind blowing making it hard to score, it was always going to be a challenge. “The Jets came at us, particularly in the second quarter. And so it was good to see how they responded – our second half, I thought, was fantastic. “We outscored them and we outworked them.” “I was very pleased to see our all 17 year olds have an impact- especially in Bedford and Bayne who we challenged to use their pace.”

After the half time siren the Jets were made to look second-rate as the Stingrays swarmed the footy and benefitted from cleaner disposal and better decisionmaking. Debutant Alex Young won’t forget the first term for a while, booting his first TAC Cup goal quickly followed by Fin Bayne’s first- both could have added another in the first term but missed with near misses. To their credit, the Jets refused to give in. A majority of the second quarter was played on their terms, while a couple of the Stingrays could have been accused of taking their foot off the accelerator marginally. With the scores locked at 27 a piece at the main break Stingrays stand in Coach Nick Cox challenged many, whilst throwing the magnets around to manufacture a winning formula. After half-time, the Stingrays lifted their game up another gear, leaving the Jets in their wake. Western simply couldn’t keep up with the ferocious Rays, who gave their opponents no mercy. By the time the final siren rang, Dandenong had kicked away to a 76-point win kicking 7 unanswered goals in the third quarter and kicking 6 more in the last whilst only conceding one – which another timely reminder that the Stingrays are one of the genuine 2017 premiership threat. They will now enjoy a week off for a TAC Cup general bye, with an away game against the Calder Cannons on Saturday July 8th at Rams Arena, Craigeburn at 11.00am. “These next game is really important for us, we settle the changes a little and get 2-3 games into our 17 year olds,” Cox admitted. “We’ve been training hard since November 2016 for this situation, the boys have been doing their conditioning and extra work so when they got their chance they know that they’re going to understand their roles, whilst running out games really well.” Dandenong Stingrays 2.6-18 3.9.27 10.12-72 16.16-112 Western Jets 1.0-6 4.3-27 4.5-29 5.6-36 Goal Kickers: Tom Freeman 3, Fin Bayne 2, Toby Bedford 2, Corey Ellison 2, Dylan Morris 2, Riley Darcy, Bailey Morrish, Mitch Riordan, Jai Taylor, Alex Young. Football Preview By Toe Punt Sorrento faces its biggest challenge of the 2017 Nepean Division season today when it comes up against the reigning premier Hastings. Now, the Blues might not be playing the kind of footy right now that saw them win four finals including the ultimate last season, however, we have seen they are capable this season. A number of weeks ago after the Blues had demolished Red Hill, coach Tony Blackford declared that the Blues were still the team to beat. However, Hastings was embarrassed the following week against Rosebud in what was probably its worst performance of the year. Right now, the Blues will go into this match as underdogs! That may seem like a strange thing to say given the Sharks didn’t even make finals last season, however, 10 games in a season can change that pretty quickly. Sorrento was devastating last week, so much so that the Bombers completely lost their way and were belted by almost 100 points. The Sharks have their swagger back. They have devastating players on every line.

We all hear the names Dawes, Tapscott, Treeby, Schwarze, but rarely do we hear James Hallahan talked about in the same vein. Halla’s form this season has been outstanding. And then there are the likes of Brigden, Harris, Burns and Gladman. We hear that good kids are always good in a strong team; however, I would argue that they would be in the starting 18 of any of the MPNFL Clubs across the peninsula. The point is that the Sharks don’t rely on ‘name’ players. Last week Tapscott had a quiet game and Dawes kicked only four goals, however, they still won by 90-odd points. Make no mistake; Hastings will need to produce their best today. The defence needs to be rock solid and disciplined. We saw Sorrento’s swagger last week against the Bombers and they lost the plot. Hastings needs to stay strong. The midfield battle will be pretty even with Josh Mulheron key in there and at the stoppages around the ground. It’s the hit and miss form of the Blues’ attack that provides the biggest worry for them. Can Clark, Clifford, Foster, McVeigh, Robb and co kick a winning score? Against one of the best defensive teams in the business, I doubt whether they can. Rosebud pressed Hastings and they couldn’t score!

Football Preview That being said, it’s hard to go past Sorrento. SOMERVILLE has a real opportunity to make a big statement against FRANKSTON BOMBERS today. In the context of the season, it is just so important that Somerville gets a scalp. Somerville has proven this season that it is good enough to go with the better teams for periods of time, however, can’t follow through for 100 minutes. The Eagles are getting better at it though, as their recent results have highlighted. Frankston was knocked about last week. After the Rosebud win, they knew they weren’t playing great footy but it was good enough to get the four points. The Bombers were shown up by a side last week which put them on their backside. They couldn’t restrain their frustration, simply lost the plot and became just another side in the competition. The Bombers should win. The Eagles need to win to show they are worthy of another finals berth. DROMANA will be looking for another scalp when it plays host to DEVON MEADOWS. This is a classic case of a young, quick, outside run side against a more hardened, experienced, bigger body team.

Football Preview On paper and on form it looks like the lay down is there for the Tigers to win on their own deck. The Meadows’ are a tough unit and they’ll look to intimidate and be very hard at the body. The big question we have for Dromana today is whether they can absorb that physicality, overcome it and get the game on their terms. If Dromana can get the match on their terms, which is a run and carry game, Devon won’t keep up for 100 minutes. RED HILL hosts RYE at home which should be a good game of footy. The Hillmen controlled its match last week for the whole four quarters but really only shook the Meadows in the final term, where depth of talent and class shone through. Today, the Hillmen are up against an emerging team that has a sprinkle of experience and will love to run on the open spaces of Red Hill. In the past, these are the types of games that Red Hill would unexpectedly drop. Considering Dromana and Somerville are playing significant roles in the season, as well as being underdogs in their matches, it’s a chance for the Hillmen to win a game they should and re-enter the top five. ROSEBUD bounced back as well as any good side should last week after losing a game it should have won the week before. Today it plays CRIB POINT, who also had a significant victory last week. The Magpies were always going to be a team that improved in the back end of the season, given a young list and a new coach. They’re an exciting team to watch when they are up and going the Pies. The challenge for them today against one of the best defensive teams in the comp is can they get the ball out of their own defence. When Rosebud gets the ball in their half of the ground, my word it’s hard to get out. It will be another good learning curve for the Magpies today. PEARCEDALE will be looking for its first win since Barry Hall stepped out to play at Easter. Its opponent TYABB will be eyeing this game as the one that they could potentially win. Again, the Yabbies will be competitive in this game but the Panthers at home should taste the sweetness of glory for the first time in three months.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank and welcome our sponsors to the round 11 clash against Devon Meadows and our President’s Luncheon and Heritage game.. Last Saturday saw all our football teams in the winner’s circle and three of the five Netball teams also came home winners. Dromana seniors retained the O’Rourke – Matthews Shield and celebrated the coach’s 200th senior game in fine style even though there were three changes to the team that has been sweeping all before them and another win today will make it 6 in a row. The recently completed AFL South East Competition Review was the subject of a recent meeting of 20 of the MPNFL clubs. There was unanimous agreement amongst the clubs that they did not wish to be in any competition involving the SEFNL as both the options had been tried before and failed Neither of the options presented by the Review Panel met our needs and that AFL South East needed to address the issues of struggling clubs directly. The view of the clubs has barely changed since this was raised twelve months ago. It would appear however that AFL South East do not want to listen to the wishes of a majority of the clubs under their management. Remember jumpers from todays game will be auctioned in rooms after game, if you wish you can submit a bid to the Club Secretary if you are unable to attend. Lastly make sure your putting your money away for a Major Raffle ticket which are on sale. The draw will be held on the 10th September. GO TIGERS!!!

Our 2 week all-inclusive tour of the Peninsula continues this week as we head down to Dromana, home of the famous Dromana Drive-In. Despite my bearing an uncanny resemblance to the star - Dwayne “The Rock” Johnston - I won’t be hanging around to catch the late session of the new Baywatch movie, but if anyone else is interested it starts at 10pm. Tough day at the office last week against Red Hill, some brain fades costing the seniors at the wrong times but we showed for most of the first half that we are certainly good enough when we put our head over the ball and work hard. We need 22 blokes working for each other before we get back to the form that we showed we are capable of in the first few rounds. Unfortunately the reserves also fell short after being well in the game for 3 and a half quarters. Boomer is putting together a great season and once again was named best on ground. Another challenge awaits today, lets take home some points and some pride. Big thanks to Jimmy Harmes, Melbourne Demon superstar for nominating us in the Toyota Good For Footy promotion. Thanks to Jim’s goal against the Eagles last weekend, Toyota has donated $500 to our club! Awesome effort! One of the great days on the football calendar last week, with the past players and officials day being held. It was wonderful to see some of the blasts from the past down enjoying a few frothies and didn’t the players in all 3 grade put on a show for them. The unders got the day off to a flyer with a terrific win against the highly fancied Bombers. It was a classic example of a committed team working hard for 4 quarters. After the disappointment of the previous game, it was a strong effort to bounce back and an important one. The season is back on track, let’s bring the same effort today. The Scoobs continued their winning streak as the confidence and comradery continue to grow. Competition for spots is heating up and it’s turning into good performances on game day. Another big challenge today against a finals bound team on their deck, the sort of challenge this group embraces. Keep the standard high. The seniors conceded the first 3 goals for the second week in a row, then went wackity whack whack and piled on 8 of their own. It was a well drilled performance against a quality opponent. Almost farcical scenes in the 2nd quarter saw Frankston playing with only 15 players, but the damage had already been done. Today we hunt the reigning premier. Welcome back to the Nest! It has been over a month with 3 away games and a week off. Today we play Frankston Bombers in the ‘BENNEZ CUP’ game, in honor of past player Benny Hocking. Ben played in our premiership year for the reserves in 2014 and is sorely missed around the playing group and across both the clubs. This game will be played in the right spirit! Last Week we ventured down to Crib Point and for a long time we managed a full book of wins, 3 from 3. The U19s on paper had a tough game, but a powerful effort to win by over 12 goals to the 4th placed side. This now gives them some breathing space in the top 3. The win was all the more pleasing with 3 players playing seniors and others injured. The 2s finally got back on the winners list! It was a gutsy effort, with 4 boys backing up from U19s helping out. We are one club and it was great effort to back-up, so thanks Harro, Aussie, Lachie and Zane for putting your hand up! With the 3 Burton boys playing for the first time ever the team was able to work together against the odds and run out 14point winners. It was an great effort to all. The 1s challenged early, ran away 9 goal winners. After losing 3 of the past 4 it was great to get the 4 points, it was even greater to see Luke Rowe back playing with us! He will only get better! Welcome footy fans to the Somerville where the mighty red & black take on the Eagles. The senior teams will be playing for the Bennez Cup, in memory of Ben Hocking who was taken from us much too early. Ben played footy for the Eagles & his family Paul, Billy Hayleigh, Georgia & Maddi are much loved members of the Bombers crew. The players blue socks aren’t a fashion statement & the Bennez Cup is not just a trophy, they are symbols of incredible importance. They are a reminder, a reminder that despite appearance a teammate, friend or family member may not be in as good a place as they deserve to be. AFL players Buddy Franklin, Alex Fasola & Travis Cloke have all recently had the courage to reach for help when not at the top of their game and that is the unbelievably important message of today. Today is a day of celebration! It is the first ever round where ALL of our teams are going to be playing at home on the same day! Another tough lesson for our 1st side. We played Rye at home and had a real crack in the first half with only 4 points the difference at half time. It was terrific to see the pressure applied by the team. Unfortunately the second half was in complete contrast, all the areas that we did well in and all the pressure we applied in the first half was not there in the second half. As a young team we must continue to work hard for the 4qtrs. Today we play Pearcedale away, our 4 qtr effort is a must if we are to be chance after 120 minutes. With a whopping ten changes to the development side this week, it was going to be interesting to see how the team worked together and early in the game it looked like that accurate kicking at goal was to be the major issue. However after half time the team that had been led so well by a miserly defence worked harder and at times moved the ball as good has it had all year. A good even spread of goal kickers saw us run out 37 point winners that puts us now back in the top five. This is a fantastic opportunity for this squad so keep getting to training and get the rewards that we have strived for for a long time. First up a massive congratulations to Sienna Wills on becoming only the 3rd player to reach 100 netball games for the Rye Football Netball Club, joining Lucy Millar and Olivia Stephens. Sienna played in our C Grade premiership team back in 2013 and now is one of our gun, A grade players, as well as co - coaching the Under 17 side this year. Keep up the great work Sienna and congratulations on a fine career so far. The football was disappointing last week, with all 3 sides going down to Dromana. The Under 19’s well and truly kicked themselves out of the game with 1 goal 10 behinds for the day. Massive game today to keep your finals hopes alive. Good games by Jarrod Richards, Cory P, Jacko Allen and Jeansy. The reserves after a good 1st quarter, went to sleep after that, only kicking 1 more goal for the game. Boys 4 quarter efforts are what’s needed. Daniel Cimino, Chaigen Watson, CGS, Gussy Gordon, Hagan Rice and Doogie all played well. The seniors were slow out of the blocks and played catch up footy all day. Still in the game at ¾ time, we needed a big last quarter in front of our home crowd. Unfortunately it was Dromana who lifted and our boys struggled to give a help. Young Gabe Nocella was best for us, along with the Skipper Kirka’s, Harry and Oscar Whitty, Animal Cole and Spider Wilson. We will, as is our custom, provide first class hospitality to Crib Point at sunny Rosebud today. However if last week’s results are anything to go by the Magpies will need to provide a seriously surprising swoop to leave with any points. In front of our supporters and sponsors on our home turf we expect our trademarks will be on full display – hard running, relentless pressure and clever football. Last week over at Pearcedale we were able to take the trifecta with the 3 teams amassing 69 goals and conceding just 12. In the main game Sean’s BOG performance demonstrated the reason for his representative selection – we wish him well! We had eleven goal kickers and classy contributions from Spoons, BT, Bart, Matty and GB. The Development Squad, after absorbing some early pressure piled on majors after half time and were miserly throughout, conceding just 13 pts, Trav, Kano, Schultzy (10 majors), Ed, Scotty and Raph were winners all day. The Unders were a credit to the quality of RJFC programs amassing 217 pts in a silky performance – 11 goal kickers, 3 with 5 or more and copybook performances from Reid, Nath, Matty C, Campbell, Kyle and Ty. It was a disappointing day for the U19’s with a complete lack of intent the catalyst for their loss. Somerville walked away 57 point victors against a dismal Crib Point. Consistent efforts across the day were lacking. As a result, the U19’s will now be fighting to keep their spot in the top 4 when they face Rosebud this week instead of fighting to consolidate a spot in the top 3 in what promises be a close season in the U19’s. The Reserves burst out of the blocks against Somerville with Neil ‘Big Bad Bustling Boogsy Clunks’ Clark slotting 2 goals early in the quarter. Former Crib Point player Lee Koerner was influential early but was well held for the remainder of the match after Tim ‘Mr.Realiable’ Malcom went to him. Dan ‘Smooth’ Wise got the Pies off to a great start in the third after kicking a tough goal from just outside the 50 arc but this momentum was soon stemmed by Somerville. Somerville finished with a 21-point victory. Brodie Hill was brilliant up forward finishing with 2 goals while Tyler ‘Reasons’ Wilton and Callum ‘Cal Pal’ Campbell dominated in the backline all day. The senior side celebrated the 150 game milestone of their coach and former captain Brad Arnold against Somerville. Brad was prolific throughout the midfield in his milestone game, accompanied by stalwart Taylor Stratton and young gun Ned Shannon who is building a strong first senior season. The self proclaimed Tony Lockett of Crib Point, Waide “Simmo” Symes finished the game with 5 goals.

Blue sock round This week the umpires also embrace the “it’s okay, not to be okay” round with blue socks to help raise awareness of mental health and suicide in the community. What this round represents and promotes is a real issue for our community and one we need to band together to promote awareness of. Our day started off very promising last week against Somerville. D grade were off to a great start and held their lead throughout winning by 7. In slippery conditions it was hard to play our game but the girls show their improvement each week and it is all paying off now. BOC went to Laura for another great game in defence and providing options down the court. It was the bitter taste of defeat for our A, B and C grades. 1st vs 2nd in all games and the results showed all the work we have to do. C grade were off to a great start and winning at quarter time but unfortunately were overrun by Sommie and went down by 14. BOC went to Ayla coming back into her top form battling hard all day! B grade were left speechless after their 30 goal loss. The girls had good spurts throughout the day but could never string any of it together. BOC went to Molly who had a great game in defence. Possibly witnessing a grand final preview with Somerville and Crib it was a great fight. Still having our 3 main centre courters out our girls really had to dig deep but unfortunately went down by 6. Special mention to Lily Cook for filling in, it was great to see her back out on court. BOC went to Adrienne whose drive down the court was our best option for the ball. A loss never hurts, it just build’s fire for next time and we’ll see Somerville in the last round. With our spray tans on we travel down to Rosebud this week with the Black and White Ball after! Let’s make it one to remember! Go Crib!

Pearcedale Panthers Another freezing cold down day at Pantherland and yet it still did nothing to dampen the flame that seems to have been sparked in the hearts of the Pearcedale netball gals. Our junior and lower grades continue to impress and higher grades continue to improve infinitely more with every game. Last week the 17s took their turn to further cement their place at the top of the ladder in a positive and consistent game against the junior Buds. With a full strength side, Pearcedale were brilliant and kept their foot pressed firmly on the accelerator from start to finish, securing a 20+ goal win. With D Grade with the week off, C Grade were up next and keen to back up their win against an undefeated Crib Point side the previous week. The score was closer than liked in the first half but the girls pulled it together and smashed out some good netball to finish the game with a comfortable margin. B Grade again, showed flashes of brilliance and were let down only by a lack scoring in the first half. They beat Risebud all over the court in the second half but just a little too little and defs a little to late. A Grade was a nail biter with both teams evenly matched and very hungry for their win. Some outstanding defence from Rosey saw the scales tip slightly in their favour and in the end we just couldn’t get over the line despite a fine effort! This week we take on Tyabb in which is always a fun and competitive day so get down and show your support :)

Hastings Blues A very chilly start to the day saw D grade up and about and ready to put their best game forward. Sheryn Mock once again in the gold shooter position was holding strong and finishing off shooting accurately. It was a real arm wrestle for most of the match with Fiona Kain’s enthusiasm and work rate a huge benefit to this team, continuing to lift her team mates throughout the match. D grades best match of the year so far just falling short of a win by 6 goals. C grade faced their biggest challenge of the year so far against ladder leaders Somerville. They definitely took it up them with Jaimi Gay and Grace Williams continuing their fantastic form in the goal circle finishing off the defenders hard work, but unfortunately couldn’t get the win. They achieved their highest score for the year so far against the top team and proved the hard work they are doing at training is paying off come game day. B grade lacked the fire power they needed when they also faced the top of the ladder team in Somerville. Somerville proved too strong and to be a very well drilled team with a great understanding of the game and combined very well as a team. Something for our newly formed team to strive towards. The biggest positive to come out of the B grade match was the fact that they scored the highest score more than any other club against them so far this season.

C grade had a hard game last week against the very strong Frankston team. Frankstons strong defensive work was too good for us, but the girls never gave up and were able to score and have some good game plays. Brigette and Emma had a great game in defence and the mid court players all worked well together. Good work girls. Awesome game for B grade, although missing a few players Brooke Fankhauser and Emily Opie stepped up helping us lots! The team continue to grow and improve every week, well done girls! The A grade girls also had an awesome game this week against Frankston, although they couldn’t come up with a win, they were able to match the goals against Frankston for the last half of the game. The A grade girls are showing how fit they are in the competition which is great to see. Thanks to Gemma Grant who stepped up and filled in for us, her and Nova played really well together. Devon Meadows Panthers

The under 17s went in with the bare 7 which makes it hard against quality opposition. To the girls credit they didn’t give up, they gave me 110% right to the last whistle. It’s going to be hard to make the top 4 now but if the girls give their last few games of the season their all you just never know. A massive thanks to Jill for her unwavering support! BOC Ella. The d grade girls really came together as a team on Saturday to beat red hill! Every girl on the court earned there time and worked on the things that were set out for them. We are almost half way through the season and hope to continue the wins and finish up in the top 4. Boc jenelle C grade girls played another game of great quality against Red Hill. Through great defensive pressure the girls were able to lead at half time. The girls all worked hard to meet their indivisible goals which made the second half look neat and clean. The girls are determined to have a strong run into finals! BOC Emily B grade looked sharp in the warm up and took it out on the court. They were determined to prove that they can match it with the top teams and they did. It was a great team effort with everyone playing their role. Red Hill challenged, we responded. Well done team! Tyabb Yabbies

Two weeks ago we welcomed Rye to the Pond in a pretty successful day for the Yabbies. In the only loss for the day D Grade were dominated by top of the ladder Demons across all positions on the court. It was a tough game for our girls who are working hard to turn the second half of their season around. Always leading from the front, Megan was best on once again. She was able to adjust her game each quarter to work with 4 different defenders across the game. C Grade were more fortunate & put together some passages of fantastic netball. Darcey stood out in goals with her accuracy & strong drives. She was able to make space & made it easy for the midcourters to get the ball to her safely. B Grade aimed to improve their consistency across the 4 quarters & were able to reach their goals. It was pleasing to see the entire team work together to enforce some intimidating defensive pressure all the way down the court. Once again, Lenny held end the attacking end with her strong drives, clever passing and strong leadership. In A Grade, Watto continues to build on an outstanding first half of the season working in exceptional partnership with KB. Both continually turned the ball over & put outstanding pressure on the Rye attackers. All squads have had a two week break & come refreshed & ready to take on Pearcedale. With some varying score lines, it’s difficult to know what to expect against The Panthers so we will be ready to put our best effort out on court. NIP! NIP!

A-Grade – Starting with the first two goals the game looked to be going in our favour until Pearcedale showed us they were here to play. A very level game for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd quarters with Rosebud pulling away in the 4th to win by 10 goals. Nice finish. Awards – Tamara and Millie. B-Grade – Last week we came away with a win! It was great to see the techniques we have been practicing at training coming through in our game play. The Pearcedale girls worked us hard through the centre court but our girls really worked the space well. Our teamwork was effective which was great considering we were missing some players. Special mention to Jess who was amazing in defence but our awards today went to Ali in WA & Megan in GS. C-Grade – We knew we would be up for a tough game against Pearcedale. As a team we had one of the most positive team work games we have played all year. When there was a turnover we all got around each other. As a team we kept our heads held high against the top team and gave them a run for their money. Well done team – I was one proud coach. Awards – Bec & Bridie. Under 17s – The girls started off the day really strong keeping the top team to under 10 goals. Unfortunately the girls dropped off and ended up having a loss. Despite the loss the girls all played really well and put their training into their game. Awards – Gem & Mikky Lock in next week’s social function – the Lip Sync Battle after the Somerville away game. #HandsOffMPNFLFootyNetball! Go Buds!

Rye Demons

Last week we played Dromana at home. It started off cold and wet, but the sun started to shine after we were three games in. The 17 and under’s started off the day with a 10 goal loss. They played hard and were competitive, but couldn’t match the accuracy of the Dromana goalers. Best on court was Shannon Christodoulou. The next game was D grade, with the girls continuing their winning form. Tamara and Jade were a strong combination in the goaling end scoring 52 goals and the defenders worked hard to keep Dromana to only 15 goals. Best on court was Jade Larsen. C Grade had a great start and kept up the momentum throughout the whole game. Jenny and Sam combined well in goals and we finished up with a 10 goal win. Best on court was Sam Harris. B Grade had a slow star. They worked hard in the second but were no match for the polished Dromana unit. We ended up going down by 32 goals. A grade started off well, going goal for goal with Dromana, but in the second and third quarters Dromana pulled away. The girls kept on fighting, again matching Dromana in the fourth. It was great seeing Sienna play her 100th game and combing well with both Miranda and Hailey. It was also great to see Chloe back on the court! The end score was Dromana 50, Rye 35. Best on court was Georgie Stubbs. We are looking forward to today’s matchups against Red Hill. Go Dees!

Frankston Bombshells First let’s get this out of the way. Sorrento V Frankston. Good results all round apart from the strange spiced hot chocolates. C grade came away with a comfortable win, but seeing Abbey in the Bruce Park hoodie disappoints me more than I disappoint my parents. B grade: Everyone’s highlight was that the lightest player on court could inflict significant facial damage onto her own team-mate. Friendly fire? Or Goaling rivalry? Lucky it didn’t affect the outcome of the game, winning by 60 goals. A grade: a few stray passes and a discussion with the umpires did nothing to dampen the mood as we stormed into another win and hopefully a bit of a percentage booster. More Importantly: Its okay not to be okay – Thank you to the Hocking’s. Today we put on that mask So people don’t have to ask Are you okay? Because today we’re not okay.. We’re smiling and laughing But it’s just a game Taking selfies and photographing Today it’s just our stage name Unfortunately when you ask whats wrong We will probably say nothing Because often we are too headstrong To admit we are bluffing To my beautiful netball family And my beautiful Hockings and co. Saturday was overall a positive day for our girls. We came up against a more evenly matched Rye squad, which saw us take away 3 out of 5 wins U/17s - Even with a couple of team members out, the girls continued their winning streak. It was a strong 4 quarter effort which saw the girls win by 10. Awards went to Hayley Joyce and Shaye Fitzpatrick D Grade - Our D grade side took on top of the ladder. The girls put in a solid effort but unfortunately the shots weren’t dropping, which saw Rye take a considerable lead that we were unable to claw back. Best were Liv Henderson and Brehanna Compton C Grade - We lacked a bit of intensity in C grade which Rye capitalised on early. Although we showed good teamwork our ball movement was a bit slow which saw us go down by 11. Award winners were Tahlia Walter and Belinda Ingram B Grade - Our hard work in B Grade really paid off this week. The team worked really strongly together and did not miss a beat all game, winning by 32. Best were Maggie Alford and Sahra Dupuy. A Grade - A really consistent game from our A grade side, with great movement and strong passing. Our defensive pressure and shooting accuracy saw us take the win by 15 goals. Award winners were Laura Hopkins and Rivvy Walter. We look forward to taking this momentum into Saturdays games against Devon, which will see all 5 teams play again! Go Tigers

Great win for our under 17s last week. They are playing great netball at the moment. Setting themselves up nicely for finals. Well done girls, keep up the good work looking forward to this Saturday. D grade had a solid game this week with our 17s all stepping up to help out . In the 3rd quarter we fell away but came back to drive the last quarter home, not enough to win the game but well done to a team with combinations that haven’t been tried before. It was a tough day for our C grade girls, great to see Bella step up from u/17s in goals. Chloe M played strong in the defence combining with Chloe RH and Bridgette, they produced some great turnovers. Devon meadows were too strong on the day but it was great to see our girls never gave up and fought hard all game. Tough game today for our B graders, change in goalers meant we had to make some changes to delivery and that took time to settle into. We must make sure the hard work of the defenders is rewarded with a turnover resulting in a goal! A small lead stretched out over the game. A Grade had another strong win with changes in the mid court to continue to develop different combinations! Goalers are settling in well together and the mid court feeds were on fire. Defense is strengthened with consistent form resulting in many turnovers. Keep working and our disappointing start will fade away into the past! Go Hills Last round we took on Crib Point. We knew in the lead up that we were going to be in for 4 really tough matches, with A, B and C grade being top 4 clashes. The dark and dreary weather was not idea netball weather! The D girls found it hard to convert their defensive turnovers and unfortunately Cribby got the better of them in the wet conditions. The C girls had a slow start but then picked it up beautifully and made some great passages of play and strong defensive pressure. It was great to see the support and encouragement on and off the court during this big win! The B girls came out firing and worked their butts off to come away with the win. They continue to strengthen all areas of their game and show good depth as a team. The A girls were ready for a super tough clash against last year’s premieres and with a few players out, it was going to be a test of depth. The girls played good, strong netball throughout the first 3 quarters and then had an amazing last quarter coming away with a really exciting win! The defensive pressure, tips and intercepts were converted where the goalers capitalized with high accuracy. Today we take on Frankston Bombers in the ‘It’s OK not to be OK’ round. Blue is the official colour of the round, the team that wins this match will be presented with the “Bennez cup” by Paul Hocking. Blue socks will be won by all footy players and spectators are also urged to don the blue colour as well. All money raised across the games will be donated to Lifeline
