This week is ‘Pink Round’ being one of our many themed rounds for the 2017 season, so make sure your club thinks pink, and get behind the day and help raise awareness and funds for the fight against breast cancer. We all have a mother, sister, grandmother, niece, friend that we know that has been affected, and this is our chance as a community to rally around one another and support this great cause.

Well done to the Somerville FNC and Frankston Bombers for the campaign put together for ‘It’s okay, not to be okay’ round. It was great to see both games of football and netball were played in high spirits to help raise awareness of mental illness. We look forward to further growing the awareness in the years to come. The annual ‘Women in Sport’ luncheon is on once again Friday 21st July. This year’s special guests are Susan Alberti AC, Sports Journalist Caroline Wilson and AFL W Coach of Collingwood FC Wayne Siekman. Bendigo Community Bank ENERGY SAFE VIC COUNTRY U19 SQUAD ANNOUNCED AFL Victoria is pleased to announce the final Energy Safe Vic Country Under 19 squad ahead of its Under 19 Challenge Cup clash against the Victorian Amateur Football Association (VAFA) on July 8. Coach Damian Sexton has released a final squad of 25-players including three emergencies, who will line up against their metro rivals at Frankston Oval. Seven AFL Victoria Region Commissions have representatives in the 2017 Energy Safe Under 19 squad, with AFL North East Border (eight), AFL South East (seven), AFL Barwon (three) and AFL Goulburn Murray (three) boasting the most representatives. Of the seven leagues represented in the final squad, Ovens & Murray FNL and Mornington Peninsula Nepean FL are the best represented with seven selections each, followed by Goulburn Valley League and Geelong FNL with three representatives. Nineteen-year-old Shaun Mannagh (North Albury FNC) will lead the brightest young country football talent as captain, while Sean Downie (Rosebud FNC) has earned the role as vice-captain. The Energy Safe Vic Country Under 19 squad has recorded emphatic victories in its last three encounters against VAFA, the most recent being a 44-point win at Mernda Reserve last season. Held annually, the Under 19 Challenge Cup provides the next crop of community football greats with an opportunity to showcase their talents, in what has fast become one of the great traditional rivalries between the bush and the burbs. The Under 19 Challenge Cup will kick off at 11.15am at Frankston Oval before the highly-anticipated Brian Molony clash between WorkSafe AFL Victoria Country and VAFA at 2:15pm.

Bendigo Community Bank LOVE THE GAME ROUND A host of Victorian football leagues across the state will encourage fans to remember the passion, not the odds as part of the 2017 Love the Game Round next month. AFL Victoria, in partnership with the Victorian Responsible Gambling Foundation is showing its support for the ‘Love the Game’ campaign through a number of initiatives, focused on helping reduce the exposure of our fans, officials and players to sports betting promotion. Held from July 8-9, the dedicated round will also assist participating community and state leagues to educate clubs on creating safe and healthy environments for members to understand the risks involved with the increased normalisation of gambling in the community. AFL Victoria CEO Steven Reaper said the ‘Love the Game’ Round will help remind football supporters what really matters. “AFL Victoria understands the importance of reducing harm from gambling and will encourage clubs to focus on the love of the game, not the odds, not just during the dedicated round but every round of the season,” Reaper said. “People need to be aware of their limits with gambling and the impact it can have on young people, particularly in a sporting club environment. “It’s time to get back to loving the game for what it is and take the focus off betting and we are confident that our ongoing partnership with the Victorian Responsible Gambling Foundation will help us achieve that.” Twenty Victorian leagues across the state are joining in the campaign, hosting a number of activations within their communities to counter the growing culture of gambling in sport. Craig Swift, Acting CEO of the Victorian Responsible Gambling Foundation, said they were working closely with over 270 clubs in Victoria at both the elite and local level to raise awareness about how gambling advertising is changing the way young people experience sport.

“We are delighted to be working with AFL Victoria to highlight the Love the Game Round to all football fans. “Between the internet and smartphone technology, you now have the means to gamble in your pocket anytime, day or night and sport is where most of the promotion is occurring. “Reducing harm from gambling is something that needs to happen on an individual, industry, sporting club and community level and the Love the Game Round is showing the leadership and commitment of AFL Victoria to encourage all football fans to love the game and not the odds,” he said. Football Preview Big chance for Eagles By Toe Punt

Somerville has a huge opportunity this afternoon to take two big scalps in as many weeks when it faces Rosebud. Consistency and confidence has been the key issue for the Eagles this season but it seems that they are finding both at the right time. One can’t underestimate last week’s victory against the Bombers. The Eagles were down and out in the last quarter but found a way, not only to win, but to do it in convincing style. It’s been said before but things were always going to take some time under new coach Bevan Malloy – he has high expectations, as he did of himself when he was a star of our game. There’s no reason why the Eagles can’t start setting the bar a little high. At first it was just find a rhythm and let’s see if we can win a few games. Now they have their sights set on a top five finish. A win today against Rosebud and the Eagles genuinely have claims for a top three finish. Standing in the way is Rosebud, which also has an eye on top three. The Buds are playing some good footy but by gee is their goal kicking an issue. It cost them against the Bombers and they were ordinary in front of goal on Saturday.

What Rosebud does do though is starve the opposition forwards – Somerville must be patient and work their way through it. It’s going to be a cracking game of football and I give Somerville every chance, however, Rosebud is such a consistent side and if it’s a close one, they’ll have their noses in front. DROMANA must bring its A-game to the pond today when it faces TYABB. The Tigers have been super impressive in the past six weeks and the players and supporters will be happy to know that I think they will win this week – I’m tipping Dromana! Let’s be fair though. Dromana had its pants pulled down on more than one occasion in the first five weeks of the season and looked woeful. I was on the Dromana wagon before the season began but suffice to say I was a little gun shy when it came to tipping the Tigers after the first month. The Tigers have already smashed Tyabb once this season and are a much better side this time around. Percentage is going to play a massive part at the business end of the season and the Tigers need to improve theirs. They are behind both Red Hill and Somerville in terms of percentage and both teams are screaming behind them. The Yabbies were unlucky last week. They had their chances to win against Pearcedale and couldn’t get the job done.

Football Preview Dromana is quick and skilful and use the ball well and it’s going to be hard for the yabbies to stop today. One’s got to feel for CRIB POINT today! SORRENTO beat the 2016 grand finalists (Frankston and Hastings) by close to 100 points each – one can only imagine what they will do to Crib Point today. The Sharks did what they did without Chris Dawes (calf ) last week, along with Troy Schwarze (pectoral), however, Crib Point’s favourite in Leigh Poholke was back and booted five. After the grand final a few years back, there’s not a lot of love between these two sides. Most of the mud slung at Sorrento usually comes from the Western Port side. One senses that Sorrento enjoys belting Crib Point a little more than most other sides. The Pies just need to play man on man and attack. They’re a young team the Pies and there’s little point just trying to restrict the Sharks. Let them play the game and attack. FRANKSTON BOMBERS have dropped their past two matches against Sorrento and Somerville but it won’t lose three in a row against RED HILL at Greg Beck Oval. The Bombers haven’t found their mojo just yet and the players just need to look at some tapes of last season to see the attacking and exciting brand of footy that got them to the big dance. They need to produce this today.

Football Preview Red Hill will defend first and make life hard for the Bombers. The Bombers need to run and carry, take the game on and use their pace to advantage. The Hillmen need to kick more than 10 goals to win. Unless it’s pouring rain and it becomes a slugfest, there’s no way Bombers will kick less than 12. Red Hill has the dangers in attack and the half backline and onballers to get it in there. We’ve seen many times that Bombers’ defenders don’t like getting in one-on-ones. Slow ball movement will play into their hands. It’s a battle of the Panthers today at DEVON MEADOWS when it hosts PEARCEDALE. The Meadows have lost their way in the past couple of weeks and probably were really shown-up for the first time against Dromana last week. The general feeling was that the Meadows would slow down as the season went on, as opposed to improving. Grit, spirit, solidarity and an us against them attitude, albeit commendable and admirable, can only carry you so far for so long. In saying all of that, the Meadows should beat Pearcedale. The Dales were lucky to escape with the four points last week against Tyabb – a far cry from the footy it was playing early in the season. The Dales have been hit with the unlucky stick when it comes to injuries though and it’s a pretty tough time in June-July when things aren’t going well. The Meadows owe Pearcedale too after the ‘called-off’ game earlier in the season!!H RYE play host to HASTINGS, who will be licking their wounds after being humiliated by Sorrento last week. The Blues have been touched-up a couple of times now this season and this must be a concern for the coach Brendan Dunne and his brains trust. Hastings has failed to recapture its form of late 2016 (other than against Red Hill) and it appears that there is a fair amount of work to do before it is even considered a genuine threat in 2017. Rye faces another big challenge – the reigning premier. The Demons have a heap of kids and some would argue that some of them are not yet ready for senior football. However, the Demons are on the right track and kids will only improve with experience. They’ll learn very little playing reserves footy. Best to get them all in the ones before the end of the season for a taste of it.

Isn’t it great to be back amongst the flower farms again after a fruitless 2 week journey around the Peninsula.. Let’s face it, we’ve just been saving up our A-Game for this week when our local rivals Pearcedale come to town. We do look forward to this game every year, the Dales always bring strong support and we look forward to plenty of navy blue shirts in the rooms after the game enjoying a beer. I’ve checked the forecast and it looks like Mother Nature is on our side this time. No lightning storms, this game will go for 4 quarters and we’ll be righting the wrongs from Round 1! I must admit i was a tiny bit happy to get off the ground early that day because i didn’t want to miss out on any of the sweet, sweet Ricky Nixon merchandise available in the clubrooms. Luckily i made it into the rooms just in time to swoop on a great Nixon/Kerr side by side framed photo. I ended up getting 5 of them actually. Some people invest in property and shares but i think they are overlooking the long term value of Nixon merchandise. FUNCTIONS - 29th July - Comedy Night! Well those little Yabbies took some catching, before we could finally get the lid on the pot and boil up our crustation friends from up the road, but a wins a win and you take what you can when you can. So after a solid feed of Yabbies our hands have recovered from there ferocious little nips we take our winning form on the road, the newly made asphalt road or more precisely over the hill and through the Meadows to the house of King Alan and his merry band of Five Acre Flower Farmers, who will no doubt still be smarting from the Rd 1 thunderstorm we unleashed on them! It is the duty of every Family member to join me in the dark art of gamesmanship, call it sledging, call it mental disintegration, call it whatever you want just do it!! Go out of your way to find Tony Blackford and greet him with “Good Boy Roy”. Don’t worry about understanding what you are saying, don’t worry if you’ve never met him and each “Roy” greeting will be another step to Bomber glory. I received this letter this week & thought it best to share. Dear Bombers, The recent feedback from teamates on the social media platform Gameday is confronting & disturbing. To have so many comrades describe me as the most annoying now makes me know how Fults felt when he was in the red & black. I generally welcome feedback and assure you that positive reinforcement will not give me a big head. The Super High Intelligent Talking that I come out with is not designed to be annoying, in fact down at the Peninsula Giant Cranium Club we just call it speaking shit. I suspect some envy among those interviewed who are jealous of my skills as the clubs best zone defender, who else can have one ear in the back pocket and the other on the half back line? What a great day at the club last week. Past club coaches Geoff Linke, Mick Pierce, Tim Luscombe, Tony Austin and Boyd Johnston saw the 3 home teams kick 43 goals to 8 to record big wins against the Demons. The girls won A,B,C,and D grades in the netball to propel us to the top of the Football-Netball championship which we won last year. Our challenger for this trophy is our opponent today-good luck to all teams. Among the many past players present last week was 94 year old Roy Setter who first played in 1938, and has had over 75 years connection to the club. His daughter Judy was the winning bidder for Copy 1 of our 19291950 History released at the Clubrooms last Saturday. This book is available at the club for $30. Seen buying multiple copies was past President Keith Holmes whose family have been linked to the club since they opened the doors. SOCIAL: Next Saturday July 15th is the annual Auction Dinner. The big Trivia Night tonight at the rooms, 7.00pm for a 7.30pm start. $20 per person and tables of 10. It will be a fun night, with some great prizes to be won, and also a bonus $300 for the winning table. Plenty of tables still available, so more people the better. Not a good week last week up at the hill, although the weather was pleasant and the company off the field was good, on the field we let ourselves down in both the Under 19’s and Reserves teams, with lack of numbers and too many players taking the easy option of not turning up. Morsey’s U/19’s had 6 pull out on the morning of the game, so for us it was 16 a side with no bench, while the reserves had 4 no shows. Let’s see a massive improvement in this area on the track and on game day for the rest of the season. The seniors had a real crack, and well done to Gus Gordon on making his senior debut last week, a fine reward for some great games in the U/19’s. Gus is the 10th Under 19 player to play senior football this year, the future is very bright indeed. Best players were Oscar Whitty, Adam “Gameface” Kirkwood, Harry Whitty, Hagan Rice, Leigh Morse and Joel Wills. The reserves only had 16 fit players after ½ time, and to the 18 players who took the field, they had a crack early on, but needed a full list of 22 players to have a sustained effort. In good times and bad times, we must stick together. Best players Merv Watkins, Will Cooper, Daniel Cimino, Timmy Maz, Callan Graham - Smith and Steve Tweedly.

First of all everyone here at Hastings wish Luke Hewitt a very speedy recovery, while Lukes football is over for the year, lets hope he makes a full recovery and is available for the Cricket season, all the best Luke. Well we came up against the top of the table Sorrento FNC, not knowing what to expect, were they as good as everyone was suggesting, well the short answer is yes, the senior team was in the game probably up to when young Luke got badly injured, once play resumed, Sorrento kicked 3 quick goals, took a 30 point lead into half time, then from there controlled the game for the rest of the day and ran out comfortable winners. The reserves were in the game allday against the undefeated ladder leaders, and with a bit of luck, could of won the game, the main thing is boys, carry that sort of endeavour and commitment into the rest of the season and who knows how far you will go! The 3rds were just outclassed by a better side, but the endeavour is there, just keep working boys and another win is not to far away. Welcome to the Eagles Nest on this wonderful day for our Club. The 125th Anniversary of the Club. We are expecting over 200 people to attend this glorious day and we hope everyone enjoys catching up with old friends and new ones, to celebrate our wonderful day. We are really excited for the afternoon! Today we take on one of our nemesis, Rosebud at home. We need to bring our A game! Last week was a great day for local Somerville/ Bombers community to play Football for the Ben Hocking cup and the memory of young Ben. All games were excellently played, with the U19s powering away to a great win and virtually sewing up top 2 spot on the ladder. The reserves were terribly unlucky losing on the last kick of the day to go down by a point. Some terrible umpiring decision’s and couple of poor playing decision’s cost the lads. The last 2 week’s the boys have really been cracking in and it is credit to the group since they are so short on numbers. The 1s was a sensational game. Down 34 points at siren time of the 1st, Billy’s goal at least gave us something to look at on the scoreboard. What happened in the next 3 quarters was outstanding. 20 points down at the half, we kicked 7 goals to 2 in the 2nd half to power to a stirring and emotional win for the club. The scenes at the end of the game were ‘hair stand at the back of your neck’ stuff. Some life long supporters said that it was one of the best win’s they had seen for years. Lets go 1 better today. Today we leap into the eagles nest to take on a team we have developed an increasing rivalry with in recent years. While we had the better of the contest in Round 4 both senior teams will need to play at their best to take bank another 4 points. Raph’s boys will also relish the opportunity to take on one of the top teams – another step in the development of our young list. Last week the Seniors and Development Team both got the job done against a competitive Crib Point – with the reserves game in particular going down to the wire. The Unders were right in their game with only 7 points separating the teams at the final change but weren’t able to finish it off. We thank Cribby for their support of our Zaidees Rainbow Foundation event and for their strong showing in the rooms after the game and look forward to our return match. Congratulations to Sean Downie who has been selected as Vice Captain in the AFL Victorian Country Under 19 team who take on the Victorian Amateur Football Association on 8 July. We travelled to Pearcedale last game & had a real crack. We didn’t get the points but we did take another big step forward as a team. It was great to see 4 qtrs of pressure football. As a young side we are gaining in confidence and must continue to push each other to the next level. It was great to see Harris, Underwood & Williams play strong contributing roles, also some strong marking by Altenkirk up forward was another highlight. Rahiily was outstanding & gave plenty of drive as well as kicking 4 goals for the day. The numbers at training are strong, let’s keep putting pressure on for senior spots. We welcome Dromana at home today & nothing less than the commitment shown last game is expected. The revolving door of the development squad continued with nine changes to the squad from the week before, but after kicking the first two goals quickly it looked like the group were on today. It ended up being more of a tussle from then on with both sides not making any use with the breeze. Tyabb showed into the breeze how to keep the play open & set up a good win with good work from the backline in the third quarter. Ending up with a 7 goal win to keep our season on track. Legends Match: Stay around after the seniors tonight for the legends vs champions game where the past players from Tyabb will relive old memories under lights in what should be amassive night for the club. Our Round 12 clash against Tyabb is sponsored by Two Buoys who once again provided the excellent catering for our Sponsors Luncheon. Last Saturday saw our Reserves win their second game which was helped by the inclusion of several U19s who had a Bye. Our Senior team playing in Heritage strip made it six in a row in a game that lacked atmosphere with Dromana leading comfortably all day. The Auction of the Heritage jumpers by their Sponsor Ben Nutbean of YPA raised nearly $7k with Adam Hunter’s going for $600. Last Saturday was the ‘Its Ok to be not Ok’ round which has MPNFL wide support and our guest speaker for the Sponsors Luncheon was renowned actor Steve Bastoni who related some of his battles with mental health issues. Counsellors have been made available via a Mornington Racing Club initiative to all clubs and we urge anyone who is having issues, or feels that a close friend/team mate is, to speak confidentiality to our club Secretary who will put you in contact with a counsellor. Another MPNFL/Peninsula Health/FSC/MPSC initiative relates to a smoke free environment and the club is looking at locations for smoking areas around the ground. Next Home game on the 15th July will see a Past Players and others Day organised by George Papalas and an IPod shuffle and Pizza night after the game. Lastly make sure your putting your money away for a Major Raffle ticket which are NOW on sale. The draw will be held on the 10th September the day after the Nepean Prelim. GO TIGERS!!!

We went to Hastings on a mission and got what we wanted, 3 wins from 3 starts. On arrival at 9 a m one wondered if we’d had snow, such was the white covering over the ground. But as the sun came out the frost burnt off, and it was the unders that got the day off to a flyer. It seems a disappointing loss to Rye a few weeks back has kicked this group into gear. With some quality to come back over the next few weeks things are on the up. Another big challenge today against a finals bound team but one we’re ready to tackle. The Scoobs had a huge fight on their hands for 4 quarters but got the job done in the end. The opposition were very good and threw everything at us so it was pleasing to keep the unbeaten run intact. Coach Phillips had a smile like a Cheshire cat after the game and was clearly proud of the team. The ones were keen to get on the paddock and play some footy as was shown in their intensity and effort. A mighty team effort over 4 quarters got the result we didn’t see coming. That’s gone now though and today we start again. Keep ticking all the boxes and we’ll continue to improve and grow. Best wishes to Luke Hewitt from Hastings who sustained a serious injury in the senior game. We hope you make a speedy recovery. The U19’s knocked the Rosebud players pillar to post from the outset, proving that this week they had come to rectify their poor performance from the week previous. Daniel Henry was enormous off the wing and half forward line, providing spark and excitement to go with his 3 goals, Harri Dekleuver also chipped in with 3. Aaron King was in form dominating the game as a big man whilst Ryan “stix” Regan put on a skills display through the middle of the ground. The side ran away with a 32 point victory. The reserves side came up against an impressive Rosebud outfit but this didn’t stop them giving it a red hot crack. It seemed as though birthday boy Danny Vercoe was given his own footy for the day by the umpiring department given his ability to rack up the numbers. Cal Campbell and Jake Bromley were also impressive off the half back line providing attacking rebound. With only 17 players on the field because of a yellow card to Thug Clifford and Sam Adams on his way to hospital with a broken nose, Rosebud took advantage and piled on a few goals to stick their noses in front and walk away winners. The senior side began the game promising and looked to be in the contest. However the team were unable to sustain their performance in the 2nd and 3rd quarter and Rosebud were able to gain the upper hand. Ned “schneebly” Shannon was best afield, proving that he will be a force to be reckoned with in future years. David Cook was also respectable throughout the midfield.

Pink’s Never Been So Sexy... Once a colour associated with femininity, pink now identifies with the heart wrenching struggles of breast cancer. It’s never been such a manly colour. Just a couple of decades ago the sight of a man in pink would’ve sparked national outrage. How times have changed… It’s a colour that represents caring, compassion and love. It stands for unconditional love and understanding and associated with the giving and receiving of care. This “soft” colour is now donned by rough and tough men all over the country in a united stand to fight for those we love. Those who’ve nurtured and guided us into the people we are today. 1 in 8. A daunting stat. That’s the number of women who develop breast cancer in their lifetime in Australia. That’s a mother, a sister, a grandmother, an aunt, a wife, a girlfriend, a daughter a niece or a friend. That’s more than 8 women just there. Many people will have seen the pain that breast cancer causes; the heartbreak for everyone involved. But women are fighters. The colour pink’s made up of a combination of red and white. Both colours and shades with appropriate characteristics. Red resembles the lust for action, the tough fight. And the white, the opportunity to succeed and learn. And that’s what we can do. Men, women, everyone. We can stand up and fight. And learn. And try everything we can to succeed. Sometimes the simplest of gestures can be the most powerful. The sight of hardened football bodies crashing and bashing in pink socks or a pink strip knowing that there’s something bigger out there that means more. And that’s exactly what footballers and umpires around the league will be doing this weekend…Raising awareness and their little bit to make a difference. So just remember…Pink is sexy on anyone. But never more so than now…

Red Hill Hills

The 17s had a nail biting game against Rye last week. It was intense from start to finish, every player played well with very few mistakes. Thanks to Lucy Hamill, stepping up to play her debut in this team & had an outstanding game. Unfortunately in the last 30 seconds Rye shot the last goal to win by 1. D grade played strong from the onset of the game. They managed to maintain this intensity throughout the entire game which created a well deserved win. With this concentration they are a hard team to beat . Keep this up & the finals could be a reality. C grade battled with Rye for the whole game but in the 3rd quarter we started to break away. The goaling became fine tuned which lifted the team to the next level. Defenders created many turnovers & the mid court were very strong, with this, in the end it was our day to keep the points. B grade had a solid win today that highlighted the strength of our squad of players ability to be versatile when required. Every quarter had a change of centre court players but the game play stayed strong and consistent. Defenders created turnovers and the goalers made best use of every opportunity to score. Well done girls. The A grade girls continued to work towards turning around the start to the season with a strong game across the whole court resulting in a good win. Goalers were consistent, centre court play was skillful and defense was strong. Now to maintain our place in the four.

Crib Point Magpies

It was a full on day down at Rosebud last week with several events being held in the football netball community for great causes and our ever famous Black and White Ball that night. Our girls all bounced back from their loses against Somerville and came out firing. D grade had a scratch match against Rosebud’s U/17’s and while the score wasn’t in our favour the girls showed some really good patches of play. C grade are back on the winners list with a solid win. Defenders were dominating all day and even with the change up of Amie into goals the girls continued their flow of the game. BOC went to Laura for an amazing game with great leads. B grade regained their confidence with a 36 goal win against Rosebud. A great jump start set the pace for the girls as they continue to work on a full four quarter performance. BOC went to Tahlia who came back from injury and killed it in Centre. A grade welcomed back Dionne, Belinda and Leah into the side with a very comfortable and strong win. BOC went to Laura for her always amazing setting up of play and high work rate. It was a great night had by all at the Ball, special mention to Holly for all her hard work in setting it up! This week we head down to Sorrento and aim for 3 wins as we head into the second half of the season! Go Crib!

Sorrento Sharks Special thanks this week to Pete Gregory Concreting a long time sponsor of the girls from their very first days! Only two games this week for the Sorrento girls all the way up in Hastings. Our C Grade girls had a great game. They didn’t win because of a slow start however won the last two quarters of the game, showing their best work as a team. Annie and Olivia stepped up from the 17s and both played an amazing game. Steph played a great game in goals, showing off her skills in the ring. Well done girls and keep up the great work! B grade also played an amazing game against Hastings although the score got away from them. Brooke, Chelsea (our new recruit, welcome!) and Macy all played a great game against the tall shooters turning the game over. Emma played a great game in centre and goals. Vice captain Ruby did a great job of getting the girls up and about with lots of talk on the court. Good luck next week girls. GO SHARKS!

Rosebud Buds

A-Grade – Crib Point out muscled us today but our defensive work kept their score down considerably. Defence provided us with multiple opportunities and turnovers but unfortunately we didn’t convert down our end. Consistent intensity was admirable across the court. Good effort girls. Awards – Sam & Darci B-Grade – Zaidees fundraising day brought out the sunshine. It is such a fantastic cause and it was great to see so many offering their support and wearing the rainbow colours. Please think seriously about organ donation for you and your family. We welcomed Nicole back after she broke her wrist in Round 3. Great first game back Nic! Bendigo Community Bank C-Grade – It was a big day for our Club and my family as we supported the Zaidees Rainbow Foundation. We all wore rainbow and took the court in high spirits. We played brilliantly as a team and backed each other and it showed on the court. We executed some brilliant plays but Crib Point were too strong for us on the day. Tiahn took out the Zaidees medal with Heather Menzies taking out 2nd best on by going into an unfamiliar position and nailing it. Shout out to Ash Farrelly who went down with a calf injury we hope you rest up and come back bigger and better in a few weeks time. Devon Meadows Panthers

It’s becoming a weekly occurrence going into the under 17s match with the bare 7. Playing 2nd Dromana was always going to be tough but our Panther Cubs looked like they really wanted the 4 points, they combined well down the court and converted turnovers coming away with a strong win. BOC caitlyn D grade came away with another great win over dromana this week. They had a tough training and the hard work showed on the court. We welcomed Georgia and tanie on Saturday, both slotted in without an issue. The girls are a strong team and have earned 3rd place on the ladder. Boc Kat The c grade started with a very fast pace against Dromana! The girls got off to a good lead. Through good drives, great defence and a solid shooting performance the girls slowly chipped away at their lead over the 4 quarters. The girls played well against the very physical Dromana girls and came away with a clean win. BOC Team B grade came off feeling frustrated by the game and like they couldn’t get flow down the court. Defensively we did well to break down dromana attack. Mid court fed our goaler beautifully which resulted in goals. It’s good to get another strong win on the board. Boc faith In a absolute nail biter of a game A grade have come away with 1 goal win. Full credit goes to every player for sheer determination and not giving up. Special thanks to Shan who stepped up to replace injured Lans. Great game stolen in the dying seconds of the game.

Tyabb Yabbies

Last round we travelled to Pearcedale, leaving with 2 wins & 2 losses. D Grade were convincingly beaten on the scoreboard but contested well defensively. Week in week out Megan stands up to lead her team in a positive manner & always pushes herself to contest every ball. Amy & Baker also contributed all game. C Grade came out firing with a roaring intercept from Lace. The match was tightly contested in the first half but it was a different story in the second with the Panthers taking control. B Grade turned things around for the Yabbies. T had a standout game in defence, reading the play beautifully & shutting down her opponent. It was a disappointing last quarter with sloppy passing that allowed the Dales to come back slightly. A Grade went into the match ill and wounded and put together a very scrappy performance. Watto once again stood up & kept turning the ball over. Her cool head in attack was well needed. Today we take on Dromana for the 2nd time this season so will be interesting to see how our teams have improved. FUNCTIONS - Tonight after the seniors it’s LEGENDS match! The morning sky was beyond fitting, it was crisp, infinitely blue and all consuming. Everything in it was a hue of the same colour, blue ribbons, blue socks, blue faces, blue hearts and the words Its Okay not to be Okay. What a day. To be involved in this club, on this day, with this family is second to none. Even on Melbourne’s coldest morning in 500 years, everyone felt warm. And didn’t D grade serve up a cracker, beating sommie by 40 odd goals. They are inspiring off court and Saturday they were breathtaking on court. To say we were overwhelmed when Georgia Hocking won most courageous is a serious understatement. To George, to see you grasp that medal and never let it go, both simultaneously makes my heart explode and shatters it. We love you. To C grade, it was tough, it was hard fought and could have easily been you on the other side of that one goal margin. Tahlzy and Teen’s who knew you evidently looked so alike? B grade, Sommie is the team to beat this year and to keep them to their lowest winning margin this year is no easy feat. Coach-Carter-Emily-Williams you stood so very tall in GK, especially when the ball was coming in faster than we would have liked. To quote Lethal Leigh Matthews “if it bleeds, we can kill it”.. A grade. To take on an undefeated Sommie and walk away with your heads up is incredible. Bev and Musto even forced them to show their trump card Becky Bomber. So definitely not a bad effort! Go Bomber!

It was a difficult day out for Dromana netball, with school holidays causing significant gaps in quite a few of our teams. Despite not being able to get the wins, we were really pleased with how our squad bonded together and it was a real testament to what a great culture we are building at our netball club. U/17’s – Final score 28-32 The girls fought really hard but struggled to adapt to missing 3 of our key players. It looked like the score line was going to blow out, however the girls worked top get themselves back in the game but just fell short. Award winners were Molly Austin and Issy Amendola D Grade – Final score 57 -16 Devon brought a strong side the court which we were unfortunately unable to match on the scoreboard. While the score wasn’t ideal, the girls remained positive and played hard the whole 4 quarters. Award winners were Hannah Marin and Brehanna Compton C Grade – Final score 29 – 49 Careless errors were our detriment in C grade. Too many mistakes in attack along with our failure to convert turnovers, saw us play ourselves out of the game. The girls are keen to turn this around and we expect a huge improvement on this next game! Award winners were Brodie Bond and Ellie Williamson B Grade – Final score 34 – 56 A very undermanned B grade side, saw the girls struggle to connect on court. Similarly to C grade, too many errors and opportunities missed really cost us. We are confident with our full side back in action we will see a better result this weekend Award winners were Maggie Alford and Leisha Jowett A Grade – Final score 40 – 41 A devastating result for our A grade side! Losing from 5 goals up at 3 quarter time was really disappointing for the girls. Ball movement was overall really strong as was shooting accuracy, however tired legs started to make the 4th quarter a challenge and we were unable to hold on to our lead. Award winners were Rivvy Walter and Caitlin Heseltine We look forward to regrouping and a stronger performance at Tyabb this weekend!

Somerville Eagles

Last week we took on the Frankston Bombers for the “It’s okay not to be okay” round. We are so proud how everyone came together to support such a fantastic charity close to all of our hearts. It was such a chilly start to the day and we knew we were playing against a quality opposition but we managed to win 3 out of the 4 games. D Grade were first up but unfortunately Frankston were just too strong for the girls and showed why they are top of the ladder. Everyone did what they could, moved positions when asked and gave it a go. There wasn’t much we could do when the team is just that good. C Grade knew they had a battle on their hands, down by 4 at half time they fought back and had a very strong 3rd and 4th quarter to win by only 1 point. B Grade got off to a nervy start, only winning the first quarter 10 -9. With a couple of changes in the 2nd quarter they started to settle in to their game and won the quarter 14 - 5. From there on in they never looked back and came away with a great win. A Grade knew Frankston were going to give it a red hot go against them. The first quarter made them nervous, coming off at the first break with their noses just in front 11 - 8. The defenders needed the first quarter to warm up because they won the second quarter 13 - 5! They were able to score 18 in each of the last 2 quarters and came away with a very strong win. Looking forward to playing against Rosebud today and hopefully winning 4 out of 4!

C grade got off to flyer getting a good lead in the first quarter. Sorrento came out hard in them second quarter really challenging the girls. Karlee Collie had to come off with a calf injury in the second quarter and was ruled out for the rest of the match, hopefully it’s not too serious and we wish her a speedy recovery. Sorrento continued to challenge but the girls held on and played out the match strongly to record their first win for the season. B grade also had a fantastic first quarter setting up the biggest win we have ever had. Sorrento never gave up and continued to compete throughout the whole match but Emma Smith’s height in the goal shooter position proved to be to hard for them to match up on, with Emma shooting at 89% accuracy. Taylah Strange was relentless in the GK position, intercepting and driving the ball into attack, with Amy Goodacre continuing her great form in the centre position. A great win by B grade. Fantastic wins by both sides. Ladies Day coming up on the 29th of July will be a great day to have some fun so don’t forget to tell Emma you’ll be attending.

Last Saturday we travelled up to Red Hill for an arctic day in the shed. It was a great start to the day with our 17 & Under’s coming away with a hard fought win. The girls worked together and never gave up. It was goal for goal throughout, with Rye coming out winners by 1 goal. Best on court was Ruby Jones. We were quite stretched for the rest of the day with many players unavailable, but those who were there were positive and put in 100% effort. The D grade team worked hard but could not match the Red Hill girls, going down by 18 goals. A highlight was Katelyn playing a great game in goals. Best on court Katelyn Hearn. We started off well in C grade but couldn’t maintain the effort for the whole game. Our young guns Miranda and Emily stepped up, which is a really positive signs of things to come. We ended up going down by 13 goals. Best on court was Sarah Tardio-Graham. Next up was B Grade. The girls remained positive, but were no match for the strong Tyabb unit. We went down by 28 goals. Best on court was Hailey Hausfeld. A grade was tough, playing against a very experienced Red Hill team. The girls fought hard but went down by 44. Best on court was Sienna Wills. Moving forward we need to regroup, making sure we all get to training. Put in the effort and we will reap the rewards. Go Dees!
