Bendigo Community Bank MPNFL Update Round 13 2017 Welcome to Round 13 of the 2017 home and away season for both Peninsula FNL and Nepean FNL. Well done to all the clubs last week who were able to assist with ‘Pink Round’ in raising awareness and funds for the Breast Cancer Foundation. We are now two-thirds of the way through the season and with finals just around the corner the competition is really starting to heat across both football and netball. In Nepean can Sorrento go all the way and make it a dream season with no losses, in Netball will Somerville be crowned the new champs, for Peninsula will either Pines or Bonbeach be able to knock Frankston YCW off their perch, and will Edi-Asp take the top award again in the A Grade.

Also, just a reminder that in 2017 the presentation night will be a combined night between both Nepean FNL and Peninsula FNL on Monday 4th September at the Mornington Racecourse. It will be a fantastic event and one not to be missed. Invitations to clubs and possible award winners will be sent out after the conclusion of the home and away season. Themed and feature rounds coming up; 29th July 2017 – Multicultural Round 26th Aug – Sept 17th 2017 - Nepean & Peninsula FNL Finals Series Best of luck to all sides for this weekend.

We certainly cannot wait to see what will unfold in the next six weeks. The annual ‘Women in Sport’ luncheon is on once again Friday 21st July. This year’s special guests are Susan Alberti AC, Sports Journalist Caroline Wilson and AFL W Coach of Collingwood FC Wayne Siekman. Stingrays “STINGRAYS SURVIVE A CANNONS SLOG” ROUND 12 MATCH REPORT The Dandenong Southern Stingrays have survived a gallant three quarter effort before kicking five unanswered goals in the last quarter to hold onto a 23-point victory at Rams Arena on Saturday morning. After leading all day, due in part to the Stingrays poor kicking at goal, the Cannons couldn’t hold on and were completely dominated in the last quarter, with final scores, 10.18 (78) to 8.7 (55). Dandenong lifted their intensity around the ground, with Lachlan McDonnell managing to get some run through the middle allowing deeper entries giving Alex Young his first goal gifting the Stingrays the lead, which were followed by four others in 9 minutes. Both teams were keen to get physical early, with a great contest and testing the depth of their list with 26 seventeen year olds getting their chance to taste TAC Cup football.

“We knew that Calder were going to challenge us, but luckily we adjusted to the tempo of the game and we were good enough to hold on.” Cox had a lot of praise to dish out for his men – particularly noteworthy were defender Will Hamill, collecting numerous disposals and five rebounds whilst key defender Jesse Davies and Angus Paterson, who stood tall in the face of an attacking Cannons forward line. Through the middle, Jai Taylor gave one of his best performances, never relenting in his hard-bodied attack on the footy, and ball magnets Mitch Cotter and Ali Zijai again shone. In attack, Jamie Plumridge took his chances and continued his streak of great performances across halfforward, while Alex Young’s pressure in and around the contests was a highlight for many. Calder started the game, kicking the first three goals of the game, before Riley Darcy kicked the one and only goal for the Stingrays in the first quarter. The ever-present winds made it difficult to hit targets however, and a couple of chances in front of goal went begging. Nonetheless, the Cannons motored to a comfortable 19-point lead at the first break, pleased with their efforts.

Bendigo Community Bank Vic Country vs VAFA The WorkSafe AFL Vic Country side has fallen short in the 2017 Brian Molony Cup against the VAFA after going down by 82 points at Frankston Oval on Saturday. The Vic Country side were unable to contain the extreme running ability of their metro rivals and were outclassed around the ball, leading to a comfortable 24.8 (152) to 10.10 (70) score line. Rochester Football Club’s Steven Stroobants finished with four goals for Vic Country while teammate Chris Moreland kicked two in what was a tough day at the office for the country side. Captain Jack Geary lead from the front all day while North Shore’s Jason Davenport was sensational in a best on ground performance for Vic Country but was overshadowed by a very challenging VAFA outfit. In his first game as head coach, Danny Frawley said he was proud of how his boys played but recognised that the VAFA side was better on the day. “You could see that the VAFA really came in with a plan and executed it perfectly,” he said. “Our guys had a dip but there is no way we can polish it up, they were far too good. “We’ve got two years to lick our wounds and do a fair bit of training but we’ll be back better and stronger than ever.” It was a different story for Vic Country in the Under 19 Challenge Cup with the Energy Safe Under 19 squad defeating VAFA by four points. In wet and greasy conditions at Frankston Oval, the very best young talent from country Victoria held off a fast finishing VAFA outfit in what was an outstanding display of skill and class from both sides. The final score: 9.13 (67) to 9.9 (63).

A goal from St. Joeseph’s Jackson McLachlan halfway through the last-term gave the Vic Country side a comfortable 29-point lead before an onslaught led by VAFA sharpshooter Alessandro Mastromanno brought his side back to almost pip the country side on the siren. Karingal’s Jake Kelly was extraordinary up forward, booting two while having an incredible presence in the forward half, while Shepparton’s Luke Smith popped up for two of his own to help starve off a gallant VAFA side. Vic Country captain Shaun Mannagh electrified the midfield in a best on ground performance while Shaun Downie, Matthew LaFontaine and Jack Blood were solid contributors for Vic Country’s fourth consecutive Under 19 Challenge Cup win. Football Preview True test for Tigers By Toe Punt

The RPP Match of the Day today in Nepean Division is aptly the Dromana v Frankston Bombers clash. The Bombers bounced back wonderfully well last week after a couple of disappointing weeks against Red Hill in a game that the Hillmen simply had to win. Let’s be frank, the Hillmen’s season was on the line and the Bombers spoilt the party. That should give the Bombers plenty of confidence going into today’s game. The last time these two sides met was earlier in the season and it was an embarrassing result for the Tigers at Greg Beck Oval. Frankston lost its way for a couple of weeks against Sorrento and Somerville, which was on the back of a lucky, albeit plucky win against Rosebud. Suffice to say Frankston was not playing great footy. The Bombers last quarter last week was somewhere near its best – now is the time to reproduce that for four quarters. They are capable and I know I speak on behalf of all footy supporters when I say that we pray for Frankston to find its best .

Let’s be honest, at the moment, it looks like a one horse (Sorrento) race! Other than seeing how Frankston back-up, the other exciting thing for many today I believe is to understand how far Dromana has come. It’s been a relatively easier ride for the Tigers in the past seven weeks, on the back of a tough month at the beginning of the season. Of those seven wins on the trot, there’s been no Sorrento, Frankston, Rosebud or Hastings – the top four. The Tigers beat Red Hill, Somerville and Devon Meadows within that block, all considered 50/50 games at the time. They were good wins. Now is the test though! Is Dromana capable of testing the top four at the business end or is it just the best of rest, with no capability of challenging? One thing is for sure, Dromana should have the confidence to challenge today – seven wins in a row should have the Tigers peaked for their biggest challenge in the past three months. It will be a fascinating game. Things don’t get any easier for RED HILL today against SORRENTO.

Football Preview The Sharks have finally been able to put a few weeks of distraction behind them and they can get a clear run at the finals now. Coach Nick Jewell and the club came to a contractual agreement that saw Jewell officially resign his position – he will not return. The focus is clear now for the Sharks. Red Hill will do its very best to close the Sharks down and minimise the damage. Expect man-on-man footy all over the ground. The Hillmen are still an outside chance of playing finals and percentage is going to play a major part – it can’t afford a 10-plus goal loss. Sorrento will not change the way it plays. Defend first and then attack. Chris Dawes should be back today after a couple of rested weeks. RYE host SOMERVILLE is an important game for both teams. The Demons are aiming for six or seven wins for the season and after four, they need three more from the final six games. The Demons haven’t really taken what is considered a big scalp, however, a team still vying for a spot in the top five in Somerville comes as another big challenge.

Football Preview The Eagles are still mathematically in with a show for the five and a game against Rye today is one it cannot drop. HASTINGS will be looking to dish out a can of whoop to PEARCEDALE today when the teams meet at Hastings. Pearcedale was expected to go to Devon Meadows and be really competitive last week, however, it was far from that. Some clubs went into the 2017 season and couldnâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t afford to lose any players through injury. Pearcedale was one of those an unfortunately for them, they have not been able to sustain a consistent team on the park. It gets much tougher with Hastings today. The Blues are a long way off the team it was in the last month of 2016 and has some serious work to do over the next month and a half to put itself in a position to challenge. CRIB POINT hosts DEVON MEADOWS in what should be a good game of footy. The Pies have proven that their best is competitive; however, the challenge has been providing a level of consistency. That tends to be a challenge when you are running a lot of kids through your senior team. Devon Meadows has been pretty consistent in its output this season and will prove to be a tough opposition for the Pies. TYABB faces another uphill battle today when it tackles ROSEBUD. The Buds are a genuine contender and will no doubt be ruthless this afternoon. It was fantastic to see Keegan Downie back into the team and a host of talented teenagers who have been with the Stingrays. The Buds would love to qualify them all for finals.

It was a tough contest for the entirety of the U19’s clash. Sorrento were in a winning position heading into the last but a strong Crib Point side were able to wrestle back the lead and finished with a one-point win in a frantic finish. Josh Fenwick was best afield, providing strength and commitment at the contest. Aaron Whitford followed on with his good form from the club function the week previous, providing run and flare off the half back line. Next week the side is given a break and will be looking to refresh for a big run home in the latter stages of the season. The reserves side showed good signs early providing a contest to the sharks. A scrappy match suited the side however they were not able to sustain their intensity for the duration of the match. A 23-point 3QT margin was blown out to 64 at the conclusion of the match. Joely Monger was good in the ruck all day providing solid contest whilst Dan “Whitey” White was exceptional throughout the midfield all day. The reserves put in a very solid effort proving that won’t back down to a challenge for the second week in a row. The seniors improved upon their previous performance against the sharks providing a better scorecard however it was still a strong Sorrento win. Shayne Ainsworth was hard at the ball and responded well to the role he was given whilst Luke Herrington was also good in tight. The team will be looking to get back on the winners list next weekend when they face Deavon Meadows at home.

Yesterday, 14th July, marked 12 months since the passing of our mate Beau Miller. Tomorrow the footy club is hosting a catch up in honour of Beauy, and it would be great to get as many people as possible down there and make it a great afternoon to remember. Kicking off at 1pm there will be acoustic music all afternoon, footy on the big screens and a familyfriendly relaxed atmosphere to enjoy your Sunday and remember the great man that was Beau. We head down to Crib Point today still revelling in the afterglow of a big win against our old friends Pearcedale last week. It was a big day for the club, and even though the magoos couldn’t quite get the job done, the day was capped off nicely by the senior side who dealt with a Pearcedale who clearly weren’t at their best. Moving on to todays opponent, we have sweet memories from round 3 earlier this year when the Magpies came to our part of the world but no doubt this will be a tougher assignment as we face them on their home deck. Budgie kicked 4 that day, and with 7 against the Dales last week, he will surely be eyeing off another haul today. Crib Point felt the wrath of the Sharks last week, so it would be nice to keep them licking their wounds today. FUNCTIONS - 29th July - Comedy Night feat. Our return clash against Frankston this week is sponsored by Hillview Quarries and we welcome our Past Players to their Annual Day on the Hill. With 4 players out of the Seniors last week we again saw some changes in our Reserves team that faced Tyabb and luckily our U19s had no game again and several of them stepped up to help out in the game but the result went against us after been quite competitive for three quarters. In windy conditions at Tyabb clean precise football was hard to accomplish but the Senior team was still able to grind out a 72 point win which was the seventh in a row and due to the two teams directly below us losing we now have an 8 point break on them. The next few games are vital to us appearing in the finals and we need to carry our winning form into these games. The return of some injured players over the next few weeks and we will be able to strengthen both the Senior and Reserve teams coming into the business end of the year. The MPNFL in partnership with Peninsula Health, Mornington Peninsula Shire and Frankston Council are promoting Smoke Free venues and expect to see some initiatives from the club over the coming weeks. We have our an IPod shuffle and Pizza night after the game so make sure you turn up for a good night. The 29th July sees the club’s Mid-Season Ball at Rosebud Country Club so see Tara and Debbie for bookings. See Graham Stelling for a Major Raffle tickets on sale now. The draw will be held on the 10th September.

Greetings to the Bomber fans down at Dromana for a must win game against the in form Tigers, or Grasshoppers if you are old enough to remember that moniker. Our boys will be confident after shaking off a determined Red Hill to record a good win last week. Beau & Foxy were great targets up forward with 4 goals each whilst Malf & Rowdy controlled everything down back. Another in the best was Adam “can you please write about my senior debut in the Record” Pasquill, sorry Pasq I missed that last week but congrats on being in the best players in your first senior win. Looks like you’ve got Instagram & Facebook covered also. The Ressies stop/start season hit a speed bump last week & will need a lift today. A finals double chance is up for grabs if we can string a series of good performances together and so have a crack at it boys. Flippa, Mud & Webby flew the flag last week for the red & black and well played to young Yabbie who has been in the best for the last 2 weeks after a delayed start to the season. Last Saturday got off to a great start as Fee’s young men defeated the top side by 20 points in a strong display. Do yourself a favour & come down to watch the unders & you will be impressed with Levi with the long sleeves in defence, Joe Ryan in the middle and Tom Whyte’s green boots burning up the turf & kicking the sealer in the last quarter with a left foot boomer. This week the Pearcedale faithful travel down to Hastings for a FULL round of football and netball. All of our teams get a go today with the women’s football team playing Hastings as well. At home for the 2nd week in a row, to take on Somerville. Sponsors day today as well, and we welcome our guest speaker Chris Connolly, in what will be a great day. Let’s hope Ben Trivett and Oscar Whitty, recover quickly after both spending last Saturday night in hospital after a physical game against Hastings. Both players continually put their bodies on the line and let’s hope you are up and about this week. Another week and another debutant. Congratulations to our Under 17 player Campbell Robbins, who made his senior debut last week, and played a great game. The start of a big career for Campbell. The U/19’s had a great win and kept their finals hope alive. Dylan Allen was BOG, along with Thommo, Jarrod Richards, Barnsey, Swayny, and Benny Closter. The reserves played a lot better than the week before and it does help when we have the numbers and players on the bench. Great to see Tim Churchin get through the game and be our best player along with Mitch Hillyear, Doogie, Merv Watkins Timmy M and CGS. The seniors had a real crack all day and the scoreboard wasn’t a true indication on the pressure we applied. I’m sure there would be some sore Hastings players this week, as it was a tough physical game and our boys didn’t take a backwood step. Harry Whitty was everywhere, Nick Rowson played another blinder, Jackson Allen found his spot at Full Forward, the skipper Kirka’s, played another leaders game as did Matt McIndoe and Dayne Thomsom.

We venture down the bay to Rye. A team we played earlier in the year and we were on the right side of the ledger then. With U19s sitting on top of the ladder and the 1s fighting it out for 5th spot, it is a must win game for those grades. The season has gone for reserves, with 14 senior listed players unavailable for various reasons and a number of U19s doubling up over the last couple of weeks it was a matter of time that the damn would bust. Last week the U19s nailed down a top 2 spot even with 6 games to go. The reserves and ones to be honest were bloody terrible. Both handed massive defeats which was terribly disappointing given how well we played the previous Saturday. The 2s were never in it! The 1s challenged during the 2nd quarter but couldn’t break the Rosebud defence. Rosebud absorbed our attacks and they then repelled kicking 4 goals in time on of the 2nd and then ran away to a massive 80 point win. Don’t know what is wrong with us but we are mentally soft against Rosebud. It is defeat number 15 we believe in a row! Last week saw a great day at our 125th Anniversary celebrations. It was great to see so many great people there. Thanks to Shaun Gledhill, Mark Hale, Andrew Young and Gary Spencer for organizing such a wonderful event. Tonight is our Annual Ball and with over 100 people up in attendance it is going to be a ripper. We welcomed the inform Dromana to the pond last game and looked to the challenge ahead. We tussled hard for the whole game and showed at times we are more than competitive. It was great to see Jake Anderson play his best game for the season with his strong attack on the ball. Another strong game by Mick Altenkirk up forward and Tyson Sparks was up lively up forward. Jordan Alves was given a run with role and did a great job on Johnston for 4 qtrs. We battled hard all day and never gave up, it was the class of Dromana in the end that was the difference. The senior list must keep working hard at training and the results will come. We welcome Rosebud today at home in a massive challenge for our senior teams. Reserves - Now being the first game up each day is hard to get used to but the guys started well but just couldn’t get the score on the board. The backline worked well keeping them goalless but poor kicking at the other end didn’t see us take advantage of the breeze. A poor second quarter and then average third quarter saw us take a small lead into the final break. It was then with our leaders standing up that we were able to run away with a four goal victory in which we were made to work very hard for. We play well in patches and just need to put a consistent performance together! NIP! NIP!

If you needed proof you don’t have to win to be proud, look no further than the 19’s game last week. With some quality outs we came up against the highly rated Pointers and what a game we saw. A ripping game of pressure football and while in the end we went down by the solitary point, the boys could walk off with their heads held high. Today we tackle the Hillmen in a game we are desperate to win. The same effort and pressure we saw last week will hold us in good stead. The Scoobs got the job done against a very competitive opposition. For the second week in a row they were tested for large chunks of the game and while not at our clinical best, we were able to win ugly which is sometimes what you have to do. We should all remember the test the Hillbillies gave us last time so be switched on today from the first bounce. The seniors kicked another big score and while it may look easy on paper, the young Crib Pointarians never threw in the towel. It was a consistent effort by our boys over 4 quarters although the game never hit dizzy heights. Same message again is we need to be on from the first bounce and not give Red Hill a sniff. Let’s see if we can get 3 from 3 at home. Thought of the week: If we feed babies with little forks and spoons, do the Chinese feed their babies with toothpicks!

Matt Lonsdale’s debut seemed to be going to script early in the third quarter when we were three goals up in the seniors. In a twinkling this evaporated, and we were swept aside by an avalanche of Bomber goals. Fortunately the 2s had control of their game all day and came away with an excellent win. Two important weeks for Josh’s boys will determine the possibilities for 2017. The unders put up a valiant fight given the patchwork quilt of a side that had been cobbled together by acting coaches Matty Hyden and Pistol. Let’s start the day with a strong performance against the young Sharks who are always highly competitive on their home turf. What a challenge for the “Hillbillies” as we come down the mountain to the lowlands to do battle with the highly valued Sorrento club, for whom the salary cap and points system does not seem to halt their progress. Someone has to be the first-why not us ? Well done to the A grade netballers who displaced the Bombshells (aptly named) in the four last week. B grade also had an excellent win at the expense of a side above them on the ladder. Back to the rooms tonight for our massive Auction/ Dinner night. Pink’s Never Been So Sexy... Once a colour associated with femininity, pink now identifies with the heart wrenching struggles of breast cancer. It’s never been such a manly colour. Just a couple of decades ago the sight of a man in pink would’ve sparked national outrage. How times have changed… It’s a colour that represents caring, compassion and love. It stands for unconditional love and understanding and associated with the giving and receiving of care. This “soft” colour is now donned by rough and tough men all over the country in a united stand to fight for those we love. Those who’ve nurtured and guided us into the people we are today. 1 in 8. A daunting stat. That’s the number of women who develop breast cancer in their lifetime in Australia. That’s a mother, a sister, a grandmother, an aunt, a wife, a girlfriend, a daughter a niece or a friend. That’s more than 8 women just there. Many people will have seen the pain that breast cancer causes; the heartbreak for everyone involved. But women are fighters. The colour pink’s made up of a combination of red and white. Both colours and shades with appropriate characteristics. Red resembles the lust for action, the tough fight. And the white, the opportunity to succeed and learn. And that’s what we can do. Men, women, everyone. We can stand up and fight. And learn. And try everything we can to succeed. Sometimes the simplest of gestures can be the most powerful. The sight of hardened football bodies crashing and bashing in pink socks or a pink strip knowing that there’s something bigger out there that means more. And that’s exactly what footballers and umpires around the league will be doing this weekend…Raising awareness and their little bit to make a difference. So just remember…Pink is sexy on anyone. But never more so than now…

Last game of the round and Sorrento play host to the everCrib Point v Devon Meadows improving Red Hill. The Sharks were brave against Crib Point last week and will be glad that they don’t face them Crib Point had solid 73 goal win on A RoadSafe Victoria supported byinVicRoads and VCFL 2017. Red Hill are on a mission and phase one was the weekend. Theinitiative Magpies had their again completed last week giving themselves a game’s breathing eyes on the prize from the get-go and space over Frankston. D grade - With the early morning drizzle coming down, the court was very slippery so the fast running game was abandon this day. Our 17s stepped up again in the goal positions to battle a physical bomber defence. To their credit they took them on. Our defence stood strong & the the mid court had some great passages of play. But a strong Frankston team took the points this time. C grade - With some of our girls taking up fantastic opportunities to work and travel, team structures are being constantly changed. With good defence across the whole court and persistence we came within 4 goals at half time, but Frankston overrun us in the second half. Keep working girls! B grade - These girls continue to build in confidence as the season progresses with our mid-court players showing great diversity, playing in a variety of positions. Showing class, we maintained our lead throughout the game as this young group of players continue to gel as a team. A grade - Sideline and on court banter were of little consequence to our players today as they continued to play a high level of skilful, clean netball with respect for the umpires and rules of the game. This ensured our win today against an opponent determined to win on their home ground. Now to work hard for the remainder of the season with a very tough draw! Go Hill girls.

Crib Point Magpies

It was a strong successful day last week at Sorrento. C grade had a 61 goal win and with Amie jumping from defence into goals proved no challenge. From the very first whistle the girls were off to a great start and the ball flowed efficiently down the court all game. Shout out to Laura and Meg who stepped up from D grade. BOC went to Meg who had an amazing game in WA. B grade had a slow start being only up by 1 goal at quarter time but the girls stepped it up in the second quarter and had a strong 35 goal win. BOC went to Holly Adams who showed a lot of fight and hunger for the ball and had a great game. A grade showed strength in every part of the court with their 73 goal win. Even with the mix up of Adrienne into goals and Eb into WA the girls weren’t stepping off the pedal. BOC went to Dionne who was flawless in defense and centre plucking intercepts out at every turn. This week we invite Devon to our courts for what will be 4 great matches of netball.GO CRIB!

Sorrento Sharks Special thanks to one of our new sponsors this year Runway Room. C Grade were unable to come away with a win last week against the very strong Crib Point. Jemima, Bridgette and Emma all played really well in the defence and Indi and Jemmah played strong in attack, well done girls keep up the good work. A grade girls also had a very tough game against the top team in the league Crib. Everyone played their hearts out and never gave up in what truly was a tough game. Well done to the girls for showing up every week and never failing to have a good time and enjoy the game. Bring on red hill at home this weekend. Good luck girls, we are all supporting you! Devon Meadows Panthers

The Under 17s wore black arm bands paying their respect to Kate after she lost her Poppy and didn’t they come out firing. The first quarter saw us up and the league leaders shaken. Unfortunately we couldn’t maintain the intensity and we went down gallantly with a never give up spirit. BOC Kate. D grade had a tough game against pearcedale on Saturday with only 1% difference on the ladder. Unfortunately the girls were unable to come through with a win. We have plenty to work on and hopefully we can come out firing against cribby. C grade girls went in knowing they were going to be up for a tough game. The girls played the 1st quarter well, however then pearcedale started to chip away at their lead. The girls were unable to regroup and catch up, making it a loss. Credit to the girls who in the last quarter got multiple turnovers. They can learn from a loss and we hope everyone looks after themselves coming into finals. B grade went into the game knowing it would be a tough niggly game, they toughed it out and ground away for 4 quarters coming away with a strong win. Defensive pressure was great all the way down the court but especially in the ring. BOC circle defenders Faith & Ella. A grade started well ending the first quarter with a 7 goal lead. The next 2 quarters were very even with Pearcedale pegging back 2 goals. The girls knew they needed to lift in the last and clawed back a goal. Great effort with 4 consistent quarters resulting in a win. Best on court Jemma Bell.

Round 12 had more ups and downs than our toilet seat after this weekends ball. C and D grade are currently holding this squad together and A and B grade need to regroup; because netballers without goals are like fish that can’t swim – pointless, but lucky we look good. Our D grade is more unrelenting than the promos for Australian ninja warrior and are proving the team to beat. I think Tina overhead Beau when he said look good, feel good, play good – she sure proved all three were possible. C grade learnt a few lessons from last time they played Red Hill and dished out a few of their own this week with a 20+ goal victory. Tegzy is trying to make a memorable exit and accumulated another best on before she goes all Schapelle Corby on us (without the boogie board bit!) and leaves us for Bali. Red Hill made us B grade look like amateurs, luckily we also get paid like them too. All of our goaling combinations seemed to work as well as drinking champagne after brushing your teeth and this now makes the top 4 tighter than a hipster’s jeans. BOC Blairshell. With the bare 7 A grade is stuck together with sticky tape and there was no glue to hold us together for 4 quarters against Red Hill. Lucky Musto aka dancing noodle aka Bambi was there to continue to entertain us and provide us with more GameDay ammo. BOC Emma needed Jack’s magic beans to reach her tall opponent but still managed to score a few handy goals over her head. Hopefully our fake tans give us the edge over Dromana!

Last round we welcomed Dromana to the pond in our first repeat round of the season. D Grade kicked things off with a nail biting 1 goal win. Chloe was best on, going for every ball and taking some really good intercepts. She was vital in securing the win by keeping a level head in the last few integral moments. C Grade started well in a highly competitive first half but as their season has gone they were unable to keep the momentum going through the second. Jayde had a really consistent game in both attack and defence. She turned the ball over for us in the defence end a number of times which created a huge number of opportunities for us. A very cool, calm and collected member of our team. The B Grade match had many ups and downs and in the end Dromana were up at the right time. Sterchs played a really composed game for the majority of the match and lead the attack end extremely well. A consistent performer for us who just keeps getting better as the weeks go on. The Yabbies took back control in A Grade and the girls continue to show improvement as the season progresses. It was great to see Izzy have a really good game after some flat weeks. She defended well and was consistent in the attack end when required. This week take on Rosebud and look to iron out those last creases as final creep up. NIP! NIP!

Pearcedale Panthers Rivalries ran hot and all Panther claws were bared last week as we took on Devon Meadows at their home courts for Rnd 2 of the 2017 Panther Cup. 17s started off slow with Devon only allowing 2 goals against them in the 1st. But from there on this young and talented team really put their foot down and finished with a 25 goal win. D Grade followed suit with an impressive win after a closely competitive start. The mid court shone with their clean passing and movement, really opening up the court and allowing our goalers to make some effective space in the circle. C Grade then took the court hoping to get the edge up on Devon and put some space between them on the ladder. The game was intense and both teams showed off their skills, determination and desperation to win. In the end, some quality defence proved to be the difference and Pearcedale walked away with a convincing 14 goal win over their rivals. A and B Grade then finished off the day playing some of the best netball seen from them all year. Although they fell a few goals short of a win, their hard work and unrelenting effort kept Devon at bay enough that we can announce that for the first time in our whole rivalry history, Pearcedale were able to claim the Panther Cup!! Amazing effort from all involved and a real indication that this club is going in the right direction with every week that passes. Well done ladies, cant wait to watch you smash it out again this week against Hastings!

D grade continue to be committed to training hard and working on improving their netball skills. Rye proved too strong for them but they did improve the score line from the first time they played them. Best on the day were Fiona Kain, Kirstie Jones and Brodie Moncrieff in defence and Riana Smallacombe in goals. C grade continued their good form coming away with a great win. Keely Gay was elevated to C grade and was fantastic in the goal keeper position and well supported by Alison Jordan and Ruby Hannaford. The girls are really gelling as a team and the results are starting to come. B grade had an outstanding win. Emma Smith and Shaye Williams once again goaled with great accuracy whilst all defenders continued to give their opposition no space and intercepted consistently throughout the match. The work through the centre court has steadily improved as the season has gone on, resulting in conversion rates increasing with each match. Big test for all grades this week against Pearcedale.

Another mixed day out for our teams, with A,B,C and D grade coming up against great competition at Tyabb. We took away 2 out of 4 wins which was a solid effort. D Grade – It was a really evenly matched competition for our D grade side. It really could have gone either way but a few careless errors and a low scoring fourth quarter saw us go down by 1 goal. Awards for the day went to Hannah Marin and Tiarna Foster. C Grade – The game was fairly hotly contested until the fourth quarter. Our girls proved too good, keeping Tyabb C grade to only two goals in the second half. It was a great win for the girls who have worked really hard at training to improve their court structures and positioning. Awards for the game went to Amy Ridgeway and Elise Keane. B Grade – What an exciting win for our girls, taking the game by 1 goal in the dying seconds of the fourth quarter. The girls maintained their composure when the pressure was on, pulling out a 12-5 4th quarter effort. Awards went to Channelle Jenkins and Laura Vidotto. A Grade – With all but 4 of our A grade players out, it was a tough game against some incredible competition. It was great to see some of our B grade girls get the opportunity to play at a higher standard and their performance was impressive. Our defensive pressure was really consistent for the full four quarters, however we were unable to compete with such a strong team. Awards for the game went to Clorinda Siemienowicz and Maggie Alford. We look forward to this Saturday’s home game at Frankston which will once again see our A,B,C and D sides take the court, and another week off for U/17’s

Rosebud Buds

C-Grade – Great plays all the way down the court. We executed some great plays and worked well as a team. Somerville was a great strong team that we could learn a lot from. Super proud of the team keeping your heads up all the way through. Awards – Ellie & Haylee & Coaches Award – Heather ‘the hurricane’ Menzies! B-Grade – Thanks to Liz and Lily who stepped up from the U17s to help us out – you both played a great game! The Somerville girls were tough and made us work hard but we were proud of some really great passages of play. Our best player was Nicole in GK – she killed it! Welcome back to Sunnie from hols & congrats on being 2nd best. A-Grade – We missed our coaches Nicole & Emma but that didn’t stop the girls trying their absolute hardest and backing each other. Having a few new players helping out this week was also new but we did work together towards a score that was not too bad considering our changes. Awards – Beth & Darci Congratulations to Erica Payne and Bec Hansen who today will both play their 100th Senior Grade game for the Club! Erica and Bec both started in our second year (2010) and to date Erica has played A-22, B-73 & C-4 and Bec has played A-1, B-25 & C-73. Bendigo Community Bank Rye Demons

On Saturday we hosted Hastings for 3 games at Rowley Reserve. D grade started of the day with a fantastic 36 goal win. It is really great seeing the development of our young players, who are improving with each passing week. It is also pleasing to see their commitment, making sure they are at each training session and game. Best on Court this week was Molly Sykes. C grade was a competitive game, but a slow start by the Rye girls in the first quarter just couldn’t be pulled back, with them going down by 11 goals. There were a lot of great passages of play and many positives to be taken from the game, even though we didn’t come away with a win. Best on Court was Jodie Stephens. The B grade girls had a tough game going down by 49 goals. The girls tried hard but with a few players missing, they were no match for the Hastings team. Best on court was Kristen Jarrad. The Trivia night was a great success and lots of fun for those who attended. Rachel and Sarah did a fantastic job as usual in organising the night. Today we meet Somerville at home and look forward to some positive results. Go Dees!

Somerville Eagles

Last week we played a chilly game against Rosebud at home. Starting with the C grade team who had another great win! Being the only side with a full team there was heaps of room for rotation. Everyone played a fantastic, strong game. Well done girls. The B grade team had a couple of girls away injured and travelling but that didn’t hold them back from securing another great win. They came out firing from the start and kept up the intensity for the whole game winning by 57 points. The A Grade team had the smallest little group during the warm up, with only 5 girls available from the original team. Thankfully there were plenty of girls ready to step up from the B team to play an extra quarter or two and they all slotted in so well. They finished off winning 54 v 21. Great work girls. This week we are playing Rye and hope to come away with a win for all teams again.
