Bendigo Community Bank MPNFL Update Round 14 2017 Welcome to Round 14 of the 2017 home and away season for both Peninsula FNL and Nepean FNL. As we start to close on the end of the home and away season, we are very excited about the fact that there are still spots up for grabs in the finals race. No doubt the next 5 weeks will bring an increased interest on who will have a chance of winning a flag.

The annual ‘Women in Sport’ luncheon was held yesterday. This year’s special guests were Susan Alberti AC, Sports Journalist Caroline Wilson and AFL W Coach of Collingwood FC Wayne Siekman and MC’d by leading sports broadcaster Tiffany Cherry. It was a great day had by all and we certainly cannot wait to put this event on again next year. Also, just a reminder that in 2017 the presentation night will be a combined night between both Nepean FNL and Peninsula FNL on Monday 4th September at the Mornington Racecourse. It will be a fantastic event and one not to be missed. Invitations to clubs and possible award winners will be sent out after the conclusion of the home and away season.

Stingrays “STINGRAYS STAMP THEIR AUTHORITY AT HOME.” ROUND 13 MATCH REPORT The Dandenong Southern Stingrays staved off a dogged Northern Knights outfit to emerge victors by twenty nine points on a cool Saturday morning at Shepley Oval Dandenong. Boasting 10 changes with a full list to choose from, the Stingrays’ impressive squad led for the entire day, but a determined last quarter from the Knights flattered the end score line. In the end the first half margin was too much for the Knights, with an exhausted Stingrays group hanging on 14. 5 (89) to 8. 12 (60) with a clinical win. AFL Victoria TAC Cup veterans Luke Davies-Uniacke, Oscar Clavarino, Hunter Clark, Mason deWit and Bailey Morrish all led from the front, collecting plenty of disposals and having a widespread impact. Equally impressive were the efforts of Riley D’Arcy, who finished the day with four goals and gave the Rays with a strong target inside 50. Down back, Captains Oscar Clavarino, Josh Bateman and the much improved Jesse Davies and Angus Paterson were pillars of defence, standing firm against Northern’s worthy forward line. “The game really could have gone either way in the end, we were fortunate enough to get across the line today due to the work rate in the first half, and that gives the boys some real confidence, as we come to the back end of the TAC Cup season, ” Stingrays’ senior coach Craig Black said post-match. “With 10 changes you never know what to expect, it’s the first time since round 1 we’ve been able to basically pick from our full list.” He add, “The focus the boys are brining each week no matter who plays is very impressive.” Black concluded by saying, “We had a good spread of goal kickers which again is pleasing, plus a little special moment for Aiden who returned for his first game kicking our first goal…he defiantly will be better off for the game under his belt.” The first quarter saw the visiting side come out and attack immediately, but it would take just 2 minutes before the first major was kicked. It was if the script had been written, after sitting out the past two years battling some major injuries Aiden Bonar announced himself back marking strongly and kicking truly 35 metres out with a flood of emotion and player support welcoming him back to the game. The Knights responded with one of their own, but the Stingrays were dominating through the middle, continually peppering inside 50’s allowing goals to Lachlan Young, Riley D’Arcy and Riley Bowman to come into the huddle with a little bit of confidence leading 25-8.

The second quarter saw the home side flex its muscle with four more goals to set the tone for the attacking Stingrays, who looked dangerous when they committed to their run-and-carry style of play, going into the halftime break 8. 2 (50) to 1. 6 (12). Goals came through Luke Davies Uniacke (2) who was enjoying his time in the forward half, Riley D’Arcy and the ever dangerous Jai Nanscawen, whilst limiting the Knights to four shots on goal, all points. The third started with neither side willing to allow the opposition to gain the first score, with the deadlock broken at the 7 minute mark through Tom Dekoning to extend the lead to 35 points. The Knights started to look dangerous but couldn’t get the reward on the scoreboard. Dandenong needed their leaders to stand up in the face of the Knights momentum – and the likes of Josh Bateman, Oscar Clavarino, Luke Davies- Uniacke, Jesse Davies and Bailey Morrish did just that. Luke Davies-Uniacke was menacing in the middle, Clavarino was marking everything in sight, whilst Davies and Angus Paterson nullified the well regarded opponents. The Stingrays added three more goals, but allowed the Knights to kick two in a row and grow in a little in confidence before Riley D’Arcy marked strongly on the siren and kicked truly giving the Stingrays a comfortable lead of 46 points at the end of the third. The last quarter saw the Stingrays go in with two less players with Mason de Wit gone for the day with a back injury, whilst Aiden Bonar’s day was over due to preplanned game time. It was a disappointing last quarter for the Stingrays with the Knights taking their turn for some hard running, kicking four last quarter goals to the Stingrays two, which saw many Stingrays players moved to different positions to stem the flow of goals. The win puts the Stingrays in good stead, basically securing a finals spot whilst enjoying the weeks rest due to the TAC Cup Bye. In two weeks- time Dandenong head to Frankston Park to take on the Gippsland Power in a TAC Cup double header, that will Sandringham take on the Western Jets prior to the Stingrays game. Bendigo Community Bank Vic Country prepare for AFL National Inclusion Carnival The best Victorian FIDA footballers are preparing to don the Big-V jumper this week, when Vic Country and Vic Metro head north for the 2017 AFL National Inclusion Carnival on July 24. Held at the Gold Coast, the AFL National Inclusion Carnival brings together footballers with an intellectual disability from across Australia to take part in a weeklong round-robin tournament. For the first time, all states and territories will have a team represented in the competition, with squads from the Northern Territory and Western Australia joining regular competitors Queensland, Tasmania, South Australia, NSW/ACT, Vic Metro and Vic Country. Forty of Victoria’s best footballers with an intellectual disability, including eight emergencies, have been selected to form the two Victorian represent squads. Of the twenty players in the Vic Country side, nine country community FIDA (Football Integration Development Association) clubs are represented, with players hailing from both the CVGT Australia Northern Conference and Western Conference. Claiming the 2014 National Inclusion Carnival title and finishing third last season, Vic Country will look to run over fellow statesmen Vic Metro who is keen to extend its national championship winning streak and secure its third consecutive title. Leading the Vic Country side once again is head coach Matt Deegan, who says he is focused on helping his players develop into fine young men, both on and off the field. “We have formulated a really good squad this year and I am really happy with how the team is shaping up,” Deegan said.

Football Preview It’s Tough at the Top By Toe Punt Hastings hosts Frankston Bombers in the RPP Match of the Day, live from 2pm on 98.7FM. It’s an important game in the context of the season given the winner will have claims to a position in the top three and ultimately the double chance. Right now, last year’s grand finalists are locked together on 40 points, tied with second-placed Rosebud. Given the Buds have Rye today, the winner of the match of the day will go a game clear of the other with just four more rounds to play. Hastings and Frankston Bombers met in round three and the Bombers poleaxed the Blues by a whopping 63 points. On that day, the Blues were restricted to just eight goals, which is a worrying trend of the team. Against the top sides in the competition, they have booted just eight against Bombers, six against Rosebud and five goals against Sorrento. On the other side of the coin, that same opposition has been able to have 34, 27 and 42 scoring shots respectively. In the past two weeks against Rye and Pearcedale, the Blues have been able to have 35 and 43 scoring shots.

Beating-up on the sides out of the top five is nothing to celebrate, it’s an expectation. Hastings is the reigning premier – it should beat the lesser sides in the competition. Today is the test. Can the Blues’ half backline provide enough run and drive, can the midfield defend, rebound and run and carry and can the forward line function well enough to kick a winning score. Luke Clark and Shaun Foster, together with Alanis and Hirst, appear on paper to have enough weapons in attack. We know the Blues’ defence is sound. Frankston gets enormous rebound off half back. Jarryd Amalfi is in sensational form and was clearly the best player on the park last week. He could have finished with three goals. His partner in crime Nathan Lonie booted three majors, two of which were handball receives from a stationary player 45m from home. Corey Micari is an underrated player and has a deadline long left foot from deep in defence and Ryan Marks-Logan is without question one of the best defenders in the competition. Alex Harnett adds some grunt to the forward half, where Zach Longham is appreciating the support of Beau Muston, who’s second and third efforts are elite. He traps the ball inside. Sam Fox is the ex-factor inside 50 for the Bombers and has the ability to turn nothing into something special.

Football Preview In the middle, Ryan Kitchen is a competitor in the ruck and wins more than he loses in taps, while Dale Sutton, Mitch Bosward, Matt Harris and Jason Kingsbury makeup a well-balance, elite midfield. The appealing thing about the Bombers last week was their discipline. They got away to a flier and led by 44 points, Dromana came roaring back and got within eight points and then Frankston was able to kick away in the last. They were composed throughout, despite being challenged. That’s what Frankston needs to bring every week. The talent is there – it’s about consistency, belief and composure. It should be a great contest. The form line says to me that Hastings can’t and won’t kick a winning score. DROMANA has another tough test today when it plays SORRENTO. The Tigers gave Frankston a seven-goal start last week and despite rallying, which was a sign of greater maturity and ticker, they still lost the match. Only 100-minutes of concentration against the Sharks will get the job done. Sorrento grinds teams and waits for the smallest of opportunities to blow a team away. Red Hill was in the game at half time last week and in the third quarter got blown off the park.

Dromana should be better prepared given it is comingoff a tough fight against Frankston last week. Percentage is going to play an important role at the end of the season for those teams vying for fifth place, so Dromana can’t afford to be blown away! What a game between RED HILL and SOMERVILLE. For Red Hill, it’s do or die. There’s no mayo on that statement. Red Hill loses and they go two games behind both Somerville and Dromana and there’s no getting back from there. Somerville on the other hand, should it win today, has the opportunity to move into the top five for the first time this season (should Dromana lose to Sorrento). What a game. One thing is for sure, nothing will be left out on the park this afternoon. The last time the sides met was earlier in the season when the storms affected the game. Somerville was in front when the teams left the field and given the wind had changed direction, would have heldon to win anyway. 14 goals will definitely win it – only problem is that neither team has the ability to kick that score against reasonable opposition. A Josh Westerman and Chris Irving match-up would be worth every cent of the $10 entry fee.

Football Preview ROSEBUD has the opportunity to do what it likes best and that is put RYE to the sword. The Buds have been ruthless this season for the most part but have been letting teams off the hook with inaccuracy in front of goal. The Buds found it difficult last week to put Tyabb away and will be looking to be a little more polished today. Rye had Somerville where they wanted them at half time last week but were unable to go the distance, which pretty much sums up their year. I’m sure the Demons will give Rosebud a scare early, however, the Buds will still manage a 10-plus goal victory. Likewise, DEVON MEADOWS will be keen to win back-toback matches when it goes up against TYABB. The Meadows dominated last week against Crib in the first half before being outworked and outplayed in the second hour. Tyabb was able to go the distance with Rosebud, which was a real feather in their cap and something to build on. PEARCEDALE and CRIB POINT will be looking for a win today and it’s an even money bet. If the Pies can reproduce what they did in the second half against Devon last week, they should win. Both teams have some good top end talent and some outstanding kids – they’ll all be on show today. The Pies and Panthers will have had an exciting week on the track this week knowing they go into a game that they expect to win. It will be a close one.

Back at home again today after a reasonably successful mission down to Crib Point last week. The seconds again tried hard with limited numbers but just fell short, while the seniors racked up a 26 point hardfought win against the black and white opponents. As a staunch anti-Collingwood man, i do enjoy any time a team wearing Magpies colours gets beaten and despite Collingwood winning later that day, the win against Cribby was still very much enjoyed. Big highlight in the seniors was the performance of 2 young guns Drewy and Stiffy who haven’t missed a beat playing senior footy all year. Can’t wait to see the future development and what is in store for these 2 great kids. We welcome the Yabbies to our neck of the woods today, looking to double down on the win we had in Tyabb back in Round 4. It’s hard to hate Tyabb i must admit - they have La Lupa (if you haven’t had their pizza, get around it ASAP), and they beat our friends/ rivals Pearcedale last year (LOL). We look forward to seeing many Tyabb shirts in the rooms after the game for a drink where it’s always a great atmosphere, we will present awards and there will be acoustic music and meals served. We played Rosebud last game & knew of the challenge ahead. We needed to take the game on, challenge Rosebud & ourselves & we did this. With injuries early we were down to 1 rotation by half time but this didnâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t stop us from taking on one of the form sides. D Underwood was outstanding with pressure tackling & his fierce approach at every contest. Another top game from Williams down back, his composure for a 18 year old is remarkable. Holland-Birch in for his first game this season played in the ruck & was awesome, his body work was fantastic. Cox back in the seniors played on Bentley and did a great job as a run with role for 4 qtrs. Doman played up forward & provide a strong target finishing with 5 goals. A lot of positives from this game, but it cannot stop here. It was a new look team from the week before in the development squad with a whopping 14 changes. This shows the depth of the club with all the inclusions still having trained during the week. In a tough game against one of the pacesetters of the competition we certainly found out how hard the game would be straight up Rosebud kicking goals with ease into the breeze. Though the team battled away all game it was obvious that the team was outclassed as magnets were moved to see players in different positions as we approach the final straight of the 2017 season. Exciting times ahead for this team if we just keep working hard on the track and the rewards will come. NIP! NIP! FUNCTIONS- Hypno-night tickets are on sale!

Bendigo Bank are the sponsors for our clash against the undefeated Sorrento as we get to the business end of the season. Our reserves again struggled against a fit we disciplined Frankston side and were out classed all day. The U19s after a two week break played some good football but couldn’t quite bridge the gap in the score line but showed that given half a chance will take their opportunities. The seniors just weren’t there in the first quarter and were out played and out scored with Dromana trailing by 38 points at quarter time. The second term saw Dromana awaken and kick 4 goals to 1 and match Frankston all over the field. The third and last quarters were more of the same and Dromana got within 7 points but a poor first quarter proved to be our downfall in the end losing by 22 points. Had we played four quarters the end result would have been quite different. It was the result the 19’s needed and deserved after some heart breaking close losses. Surely we couldn’t lose by less than a kick 2 weeks in a row. Fortunately this time the footy Gods smiled on us and the boys were able to hold on in a cliff-hanger. It keeps alive the finals dream and proves once again that a committed team effort has us competing with anyone. Well done on a great win but remember it’s so important we follow up with another solid performance today. The Scoobs got the job done against a quality opponent that came to play. The tests continue to come and the boys have been up for the challenge on every occasion. We now have a great month of football to prepare for the pointy end of the season. Let’s make sure the preparation and attitude are spot on and see how far we can go. The Seniors knew they’d be in for a tough contest and the Hillmen didn’t disappoint, bringing there A game and cracking in for 4 quarters. The seniors though held it together and eventually wore down the feisty opponent keeping the home crowd happy. Like the Scoobs we now have a big month as we prepare for finals football. Well what a great historic day for the Hastings football club, with the Club recording 4 wins in the football against Pearcedale, Hastings won all three mens games, as well as the womens game, well done to all involved, what a great result, and a big thankyou to the Pearcedale FC for allowing the womens game to be played at Hastings, which meant all teams got to play together, would be good if some of the other local teams could be as accommodating! Frankston today, big game for both Seniors and reserves, with a spot in the top 3 on the line, Frankston got us on Anzac day, now its time for us to grab the honors. This week we welcome Crib Point to Tractor Park. Let’s show them our A game boys. Last week we welcomed some Under 19 players from Tyabb to Pearcedale to train and play with us. If you see them around the rooms don’t forget to give them a welcome. It is important that we retain our young players for the future of our club. Off the field the Dales have been flying with many things to celebrate. A fantastic day was held last Friday with the Business lunch. The masses were entertained by Sam Kekovich and Dave. Looking forward to next year’s event already. Leading into the pointy end of the season the Dales social calendar is fast filling up. AUGUST 5: The iPod shuffle is the next big event at the club on See Nick Garrett or Luke Murray to get your song booked and costumes organised. AUGUST 12: We again welcome the past players to our rooms. Many memories will be swapped on this day so get in and chat to those players and officials. AUGUST 20: Major Draw tickets are now available and will be held on Sunday 20 August after the last home and away game. This family friendly day will have face painters and jumping castles for the kids and games and prizes for the adults. See Karen or Mandy for your book of 5 tickets for selling. PRESENTATION NIGHT: is sure to be a HUGE night with all of the PFNC teams being presented on the same night. This event will be held in the rooms with a different format. Stay tuned for details. The U19’s had the week off last week with Deavon Meadows being unable to field a side. It was a new look reserves side for the magpies last week with 8 under 19’s players coming up to play given their week off. Not only did the unders provide extra run and drive from the contest but they proved that they were more than willing to be strong at the contest against bigger bodies. Aaron Whitford provided plenty of run from the back line and used the ball well going into the forward half. The efforts of the unders players were complemented by the work-horse efforts of Riley Clifford, Beau Monty and Jake Bromley who all played well throughout the midfield and lead by example. The magpies were on top all match and finished with a 60-point win. The senior side put in a good performance against Deavon Meadows with plenty of promising signs coming out of the match but the magpies unfortunately couldn’t secure the win. A really strong third term saw the magpies shorten the lead to just 18 points at 3QT after being 49 at the half and it looked as though they might run over the top of Deavon. It wasn’t to be with Deavon hitting back in the last and securing a 26-point win. Dean Warry and Brendan Phillips were prominent in the magpies performance at either side of the ground whilst Captain Mitch Stansborough was also good through the middle of the ground. Hopefully the team will be able to take the positives into this week when they face Pearcedale.

Today we congratulate Leigh Morse on his 100th senior game for the RYE FNC. An outstanding achievement from Leigh, who has only missed 3 games since he joined our club in 2012. Leigh played at Vermont then Hampton Park and now also coaches our U/19 side, Leigh and his wife Hayley have been tremendous contributors to the club, over the last 5 years. The U/19’s had a few players out injured, a few in the senior side and were never in the hunt against Somerville last week. The reserves finally played some decent football, 4 good consistent quarters is what’s needed boys, let’s do it 2 weeks in row. Our young senior side had a real crack last week, and a come from behind win looked possible. Not to be done, and credit to Somerville on their win. Another week and another debut player, Dylan Allen, up from the U/17’s who joined Campbell Robbins, also from the U/17’s, the week before. The playing side of the day was difficult for the football sides, but compensated for by the netballers who left with all the spoils. Today we welcome our sponsors to our do or die clashes with the Eagles who like us are competing for that last final’s place. We venture up the mountain vs Red Hill today for the 1s and U19s it is a crucial game. Our 1s are knocking on the door of the 5, out by a game and Red Hill are only a game behind us. It will be an exciting contest at a venue that we have struggled with in the past with its wide open spaces and even wider wings. We always seem to get Red Hill in the middle of winter too, so the weather is always cold. The U19 will sew up top spot if they manage to knock Red Hill off who are 2nd on the ladder. With byes coming up and only 5 games to go the game is a classic 8 pointer for U19s. Last week we got a full book of wins! The U19s stayed in 3rd gear all day and won by 10goals. The 2s had a great win. They had 14 players when they were warming up, but Eamer came out of retirement and 5 boys from U19s doubling up, it was purely a gutsy win. Rye jumped to a 3 goal lead early but we pegged it back and when Conda kicked a goal late in the 3rd we were 10pts up. As has been the case all year, the backline led by Jorda, Conda, Rolfey and Mitty the boys hung on for a 2 point win. Young Tippy winning a free kick with 30 seconds to play in their forward line. The 1s also had a gutsy win. Up by more than 5 goals early in the last and with only 1 fit player on the bench the lads looked like they would be run over. We rallied and kick 3 more goals to win by 22points. The win came at a cost though with Sutto and Binga gone for the year with terrible leg injuries. We wish them well!

Opportunities are everywhere. With finals fast approaching there is a myriad of individuals vying for those precious finals appointments. The field umpires are honing their whistle blowing skills, the boundary umpires are running even faster between the behind posts and the goal umpires are practicing in front of the mirror (my mirror cracked it was put under so much pressure) just in case they get the opportunity to umpire on the big day. There have however been some fresh faces umpiring the big games each weekend and these umpires have earned their spots and performed well on their senior umpiring debuts. I include Field, Boundary and Goal umpires in this group. I believe however last week’s debut was the most anticipated of SUAs history. (Anticipated by the individual himself ). Rumour has it is that he slept at the ground on the Friday night before the game just so he wouldn’t be late. So, a big belated congratulation goes out to everyone’s favourite trumpet playing field umpire Daniel Shorthouse. Well done Shorty on your long awaited senior debut (11 years I am led to believe). You are proof that if you train hard and persist that any goal is achievable.

Netball Preview

Bendigo Community Bank Nepean Netball Preview – Round 14 2017 Devon Meadows v Tyabb Devon Meadows had a tough day at the office last week, going down to Crib Point by 26 goals. Tyabb, on the other hand, had a convincing win over Rosebud by 27 goals. Tyabb should win this game this week and continue their good form into finals action.

Dromana v Sorrento Dromana will be looking to return to the winner’s board when they take on Sorrento this weekend. The Sharks just haven’t been able to take that next step so far this season and whilst been competitive will be looking to step it up again next year. Dromana hasn’t had the best run either but at times shown glimpses of what they are capable of.

Pearcedale v Crib Point This game will certainly be a measuring stick for the Pearcedale girls on how far they have come this season. Whilst any tipster would be backing the Magpies today, for any club who are not in contention of making finals these games can really show how hard work pays off, especially if score lines are reduced. Crib Point will win, but interesting to see how Pearcedale rise to the challenge.

Rosebud v Rye Big local derby today between the Buds and the Demons. Both sides suffered a bit of a touch up last weekend and will be looking to redeem themselves. Rosebud has an ever-slight chance of still making finals if things fall their way while some of the draws earlier in the year have cost Rye of any chance to play come the end of the year. With that said, no love is ever lost between these two sides and today will mean no different. Rye would love nothing more than to close the door on Rosebud’s finals chances and will win by 2-5 goals. Red Hill v Somerville Red Hill keep on continuing to impress everyone but the first test arrives today when they take on top of the ladder Somerville. Red Hill is sitting a game ahead of Frankston who have a bye today which gives the Hill ladies some breathing space but the certainly won’t leave it to chance. Come finals they will have to beat teams like Somerville if they are going to get anywhere near a flag. Somerville is still yet to drop a game so the pressure is on for an undefeated season. Somerville have been brilliant all year and on that merit, will get the tip but don’t be surprised if Red Hill matches it with them this week.

Sorrento Sharks The U/17’s match against RH last week was disappointing. Going into the match they knew they were in for a challenge as we only lost by 1 goal last time we met them, so when we were up by 10 at half time we were a little surprised. When the Redhill girls started to catch up, we unfortunately dropped out heads and ended up loosing by 3 points. We hope that this will not cost us our place in the finals and know that we need to work very hard over the next couple of weeks to get there.The C grade girls were also in for a challenging game against the strong Red Hill side. We welcomed Brooke back into our team which definitely helped in the defensive end with Red Hills strong shooters. Ziggy, Steph and Amy all showed there skills in the goal circle. The B grade girls played an awesome game. We tried Jen out in the goals and she didn’t disappoint with some help from Emma and Sarah. Ruby and Ebony worked great together as a little duo getting the ball to our goal shooters, with Charlie using her loud voice to let the girls know where to be on court. The girls played a great game this week working together as a team and using skills and drills taught at training to play well. Thanks to Brooke for stepping up from under 17’s this week you were a great addition to the team. The A grade girls also had a great game this week as they were all a little nervous from our prior game against RH however ALL the girls gave it their all and played one of their greatest games this year!

Devon Meadows Panthers

With no U17s the d grade girls kicked off the morning against cribby. The girls played some fantastic Netball and came through with a good win. They worked beautifully as a team and each and every player earned their position on the court. We have some big weeks coming up to retain our finals position but the girls can definitely do it. BOC staci C grade girls had a big goal this week and it is one hell of a feeling when they did more than enough to achieve it! In a goal to goal game against cribby the girls kept their heads high. The defence pounced on every opportunity, the mids drove hard and the goalers rewarded the team with some good ring work. Big thanks to those girls who filled in and supported the bench. B grade girls got very wet during the warm up only for the sun to shine come the first whistle. It was a fierce and even contest all game, we really took it up to the second placed Cribbie, unfortunately we didn’t convert enough of our turnovers and gave up our lead in the dying minutes to come a draw. It proves we can match it with the best, we have work to do but it’s not impossible. Boc Ella With the dark clouds gone A Grade were fortunate to play in blue skies. We knew it was going to a tough game but the girls stuck to our game plan. Defensively we worked hard and we built on each quarter. While it was a loss on the scoreboard it was 8 goals better than our last meeting. Keep building ladies and never give up. Best on court Bridgette.

Crib Point Magpies

It wasn’t the day we were hoping for down at Crib last week but as we head into the final weeks of the home and away season, the teams are bouncing back! D grade had an amazing first quarter showing off all of their improvements since their last meeting with Devon and were a draw at quarter time. Unfortunately the girls let Devon get their confidence back with a few broken centre passes and they continued on for the rest of the game. BOC went to Jane but her best game yet in Centre. C grade had an amazing start and were up at quarter time. With only 7 players left in their team it was asking a lot of the girls to keep up their intensity and unfortunately Devon got the run over them in the end losing by 15. BOC went to our old reliable Scarlo for directing so much amazing play. B grade had an absolute nail biter with the game coming down to the last minute to determine a draw. Defenders were killed it all day creating turnovers that we just weren’t able to convert and that let us down but our fight for the ball kept us in the game. BOC went to Brooke who was so strong in defence with her rebounds. Shout out to Amie for her first game up in B grade, handled the pressure very well! Without Adrienne and Dionne there was a bit of pressure on the game but our girls played their game and came away with a 26 goal win. BOC by far went to Belinda for one of her best games ever! Reading the play so well and taking intercepts all over the court! Let’s aim for 4 wins today! Go Crib!

Red Hill Hills

On a day expected to be ravaged by rain and hail came one of the nicest days weâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;ve seen for the past few winter days. And just like the sun, our teams too shine bright in their games against Hastings last week. D Grade looked a little slow out of the blocks but definitely warmed up as the game went on. There was brilliance to be commended all over the court from accurate shooting down one end, strong, physical defence down the other, and lastly the steady pace and clean movement in the centre. These girls definitely have their eye on that September silverware. C Grade came out next onto the court with a level of intensity that they can be proud of. Although it took them till the second quarter to find a comfortable and non frantic pace that they could maintain, when they did it was all skillfull and steady netball. Special mention to Chelsea Fyffe who stole the show in WD with her one woman defence! B Grade really gave it their all in a tough match against a strong side. Hastings shooter just dominated with her height and really proved they would hold their own in a tougher competition. Congrats to the girls who played and never gave up! Your fighting spirits are an inspiration to us all! The under 17s had a great win on Saturday after being well down at half time, all players worked hard to get us back into the game. We started even just into the 4th quarter our goalers stepped up after having a rough start in the first and took us to a 3 goal win. This game proved that we are finals contenders through sheer persistence and determination. Proud of you girls well done. C grade this week had a great game with everything falling into place from the onset . Our goalers had accuracy from the start, defence & mid court were strong for the entire game. With 4 strong quarters it made for a convincing win. Letâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s finish the season with this exciting game play girls. B Grade continue to grow in skill and depth of player diversity. Our Goalers shot brilliantly in the windy conditions and are working so well together. Luckily they are well fed and supported by a consistent fast and accurate mid court. Defensively we were strong with all players causing turnovers with pressure all across the court. Keep working girls to finish the season strong. A grade are determined to show that even with an unusually difficult draw they are finals worthy. We continue to develop players through the squad and players happily adjust positions to support this. We know we have a tough road ahead, yet we know we are more than capable to maintain a spot in the final four. So girls dig deep, support the game plan and lets get this done!

Tyabb Yabbies

It was a successful day for all Tyabb teams against Rosebud last week. C Grade saw a few structural changes with injuries and absences forcing Steph to think creatively. Morgs moved into C and Megan came up from D Grade to help out the defensive end. It was Dana who stood out in one of the girls best put together performances of the season. Her feeding into the goalers was something that had been missing over recent weeks but was vital in producing the final score line. B Grade had a cracking start with the girls switching on their defensive efforts and restricting the Buds to just 4 goals. The movement down the court also a big improvement on recent efforts. Unfortunately, the B Grade curse was triggered and the girls allowed Rosebud to get back into the game in the 2nd quarter. T has been improving each and every week but it was her leadership which really stood out from this match. A Grade were also forced to make some changes to their line up which saw Laura move into the midcourt. It was a successful move by Kiz as Laurz was able to provide great drive & make great use of the ball. Today is such a big match for the Yabbies as we take on Devon. Last time we were able to secure the win but recent results indicate that an improved Devon squad will greet us today. Congrats to KB who plays her 50th club match today. What a fantastic achievement Kayla! NIP! NIP!

Round 13: where the real battle was trying not to ruin our tans or let our hair get too sweaty. Some ingenuity was performed with attempted use stockings to preserve tan under taping, not sure if we’re setting the world on fire with our creativity but certainly we got a few wins on the court. Domineering D grade were commanding once again! And coming into the business end of the season are looking as impressive as we did at the ball around 10pm (not as impressive as we looked about 7pm because that’s unbeatable). Props to Georgia Hocking who is more versatile than WD40. Goals next G? C grade are finding their time to peak and notch up yet another win. The combination of Jade and Hails was scoring a lot more goals than the Beau and Hails amalgamation, and resulted in less bruises. Handy tip: H if youre going to pick up and potentially drop a footy player maybe our coach/superstar isn’t the best choice. B grade: if we were trying to participate in the how low can we go competition then we definitely won. Making good netballers look bad and experienced netballers look like giraffes on ice-skates is a skill I hope we don’t repeat. Two highlights: Em’s stack and Jens rendition of horses hours later. RIP Zachy’s nails A grade keep finals hopes alive with a solid win over Dromana. Where their only drama was getting Grace’s piercing out. Pol had an interesting prematch tactic but it seemed to work. Lets hope the sensational 7 can keep looking good on and off the court. Go bomber!

A beautiful winters day saw the Hastings D grade girls fired up for a great contest against a strong Pearcedale side. Fiona Kain was relentless in the GD position giving the Pearcedale goalers plenty to think about. Sheryn Mock returned to the team this week and continued her great form in the goal shooter position. Unfortunately Pearcedale proved too strong and experienced and came away with the win. C grade were left at the starting blocks from the beginning and never really recovered. Pearcedale played an awesome match and showed the C grade girls what they should strive to become. On the positive side, our scores did improve from the first time we played them. B grade continued their fantastic form with the defenders Taylah Strange and Nicole Ram giving the attack end plenty of opportunity to score once again. Emma Smith along with Shaye Williams finished off the defenders hard work with the centre court making great position moving the ball down the court. Amy Goodacre’s defensive work through the centre court was a highlight. Another great win by the girls. The club is very proud of all the girls who put in effort and commitment to their team and our club.

Dromana Tigers Saturday saw our A,B,C and D teams take on Frankston at home and another week off for U/17s. D Grade- It was another tough one for D grade taking on some very strong competition. Once again our failure to score goals really let us down. We had a fairly good third quarter, which was a good reflection of the potential this team has. Award winners were Hayley Joyce and Bree Compton C Grade- Intensity was great at the start of the game, however dropped of as the match progressed. We once again made careless errors resulting in too many turnovers. On a positive note, it was a much better result than round one so a good testament to the girls’ improvement. Awards went to Mackenzie Cochrane and Mel Ashton. B Grade - Another really strong performance from our B Grade team, knocking off third on the ladder. It’s been amazing to watch the girls play to their full game potential the last couple of weeks and see their hard work pay off. Great win team! Awards went to Eliza Pittard and Shaye Fitzpatrick. A Grade - We took too long to get going in A Grade which saw Frankston go into the quarter time break with a decent lead. We rushed and forced the ball too much during the game. On the upside, we were able to find some rhythm in last quarter and won the fourth. Award winners were Clary Simmo and Laura Hopkins We look forward to taking on Sorrento this weekend at home.

Rosebud Buds

C-Grade – Celebrating 100 games for Bec Hansen we came out very confident and attacked the ball. We made some brilliant plays and worked as a team beautifully but unfortunately Tyabb were too strong for us. Congratulations to Lauren Harvey and Bridie Stevenson for playing the game of the season so far. B-Grade – Again short of numbers we were really thankful to have Casey & Katie from U17s and Loz from C grade. They all really stood up and played an amazing game. Our regulars adjusted to the new players well and the team effort was great. Even though Tyabb took the win, we were able to keep the margin relatively small. Well done team! A big congratulations to Erica for playing her 100th game for Rosebud!!! Well done Eggs, you are a great player & club person!! Our best players this week were ALL of them, but awards went to Erica & Katie. A-Grade – Unfortunately the girls went down to a ‘too strong’ Tyabb on the weekend by 25 points. We were in the game until 3 qtr time but couldn’t stay competitive and fell towards the end. Our defensive end was outstanding and did extremely well. Best on for the day was Sam and second best was Darci. Great effort girls! Ladies – book your seat today for the “Ladies Do Lunch” function on July 29 from 12.30 pm (P’dale home). Last week we ventured down to Rye who we are very thankful to for accommodating for our ball with early games. The D girls were in for a tough fight against the equal first side and were coming in short on players. It was an awesome effort from everyone on court this week. There were good drives and great support on court. It was a tight finish, the girls ended up losing by only 2 goals. The C girls had a fantastic win which resulted with them being on top of the ladder! They had some good passages of play and great intercepts throughout all 4 quarters. The B girls had a big win despite having lots of players out with injuries. They played well as a team and are playing an amazing standard of netball. The A girls also had a solid win and continued their winning streak. Best on court went to Jaimeeâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s hair! This round we take on Red Hill and are looking forward to 4 tough matches. Hopefully we can come away with 4 from 4. GO EAGLES!!

Rye Demons

We started bright and early for four games against Somerville last week. Our D grade team continued with their great form winning a tight one by 2 goals. All the girls played well with Tamara Locke winning best on court. C Grade were competitive and had some great passages of play, but were let down by their second quarter. It was then a hard task to catch Somerville, who kept up their momentum. Best on court was Jenny Walker. B grade tried their best but were no match for the tight Somerville unit, going down by 22 - 79. Miranda Stewart was best on court. A grade worked hard, but couldnâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t keep up with top of the ladder Somerville. The girls maintained pressure throughout the game and were able to draw many positives from the 25 goal loss. Sienna Wills was Best on court. Go Dees!
