We are certainly getting closer to the business end to the season with 4 weeks left of the home and away games for both football and netball. With some final spots up for grabs, it will be fascinating to watch the results of all games and the implications it will have on who makes finals this year. This week we are celebrating Multicultural Round. There are many cultures that have contributed to both football and netball and this week we are looking for everyone to celebrate their heritage and what their culture has brought to either football or netball.

AFL Vic Country 2017 AFL MULTICULTURAL ROUND Football communities across Victoria will celebrate its cultural diversity in the 2017 Toyota AFL Multicultural Round. Held from July 28-30, the dedicated round highlights the contribution multicultural communities have made to the game’s history and welcomes new communities to embrace Australian Football as fans, players, umpires and administrators. This weekend, several community leagues and clubs, along with the Peter Jackson VFL, Swisse VFL Women’s and TAC Cup clubs are joining in the celebrations. Across Victoria, there are a number of fantastic multicultural and indigenous programs which continue to bring people from all cultures and walks of life together. Programs including Laguntas, Kickstart, Female Boorimul Program, Multicultural School Programs, TAC Towards Zero Diversity Squads and the All Nations highperformance teams are enabling more young talent to be identified and have access to more opportunities to become the next crop of AFL stars. In its fourth year, the AFL Victoria Multicultural Community Ambassador Program has experience significant growth, rising to over 290 participants this season, while the annual Unity Cup carnival had more than 250 players lacing up the boots this year. Through the tireless work of our Region Commissions and Metropolitan leagues, AFL Victoria continues to work hard to ensure all aspiring footballers, both male and female, are afforded an introduction to the game that will hopefully evolve into a long-term connection.

This weekend, AFL Victoria encourages everyone to embrace Multicultural Round and remember that Australian Football is a game for everyone, no matter who you are or where you’re from. Football is all the richer for our diverse community’s participation and involvement. FOR MORE INFO ON AFL VICTORIA’S MULTICULTURAL PROGRAMS, VISIT AFLVIC.COM.AU

Football Preview REDLEGS LOOK TO CONSOLIDATE by Simon McEvoy Tipped out of the five last week, SEAFORD can jump straight back in by beating MT ELIZA this afternoon. Games don’t get much bigger than this. The Tigers and Redlegs, both 8-6, and separated by only two percentage points, are playing for their seasons today. Seaford showed plenty of spirit to run Frankston YCW to four points last week – but, despite the gallant effort, it was a third straight loss for the Tigers. If they’re to play finals, they desperately need to halt the slide. Brad Doyle, Tom Shaw, Matt McCormack, Curtis Murfett and Dean Williamson were terrific last week and must perform again today if the Tigers are to get the ‘w’. Mt Eliza showed how much it wants to play finals with a stirring win over Pines last week, digging deep to nab Pines. In what was perhaps a season-turning victory, it was the Redlegs’ youngsters who showed the way, namely teenagers Lachlan Young, Finlay Bayne and Tom Small.

Frankston YCW hosts second-bottom KARINGAL (212) today and the Stonecats should be untroubled in securing the four points. Karingal did play some good footy against YCW earlier in the season but the young Bulls have taken big beatings in recent times, including an 80-point loss to Mornington and a 111-point loss to Bonbeach. Fresh from its first win of the season, LANGWARRIN will look to serve it up to MORNINGTON. The Kangaroos have struggled to kick goals all season but a five-goal third quarter last week showed they are on the right track. Langy’s youngsters are evolving before our eyes, exciting types like Mitch Cuthbert, Kye Whitford, Zac Foot and Zach Andrewartha, while leaders Blake Harkness and Michael Parker continue to play key roles. Mornington was dynamic against Seaford a fortnight ago before being shaded by flag contender Bonbeach last week. The Bulldogs are playing with dare and dash and, on form, really should take care of Langy today, especially if Emilio Bitters, Jai Haddock, Joel Miller and company fire.

PINES is in need of a steadying win when it hosts an inform EDI-ASP. The third-versus-fourth clash is vital as we head into the last month of the season, with both sides having plenty to play for. It hasn’t been a good fortnight for Pines, which has lost two games in a row since Aaron Edwards went down with a season-ending knee injury. The Pythons need to prove they can win without the former AFL man. Pines were kicking themselves after giving up a 15-point lead in the last quarter to lose to Mt Eliza by three points last week. If the Pythons can put the disappointment behind them, re-focus and win today, second spot will be theirs tonight and life will be good again. Graeme Yeats’ Edi-Asp is enjoying a purple patch, winning six of its past seven games to all-but-ensure a finals berth. Yeats will be making sure the Eagles maintain their momentum, created by the likes of Tim Mannix, Mark Mullins, Angus Macquire and Michael Bussey. Edi-Asp is one side capable of going to another level. FRANKSTON YCW, 12-2 and a game clear on top of the ladder, must want the finals to hurry up and start. There’s not a lot for the Stonecats to gain over the next month as they prepare for yet another finals campaign – and possibly a slice of history, a fourth successive flag.

Football Preview PYTHONS OUT FOR REVENGE IN THE RESERVES... Finals-bound PINES will be seeking redemption when it hosts EDI-ASP. The Pythons lost to the Eagles earlier in the season but can turn the tables with Brendan Barfoot, David McLaren and Liam Jackson playing good, consistent footy. LANGWARRIN has been getting closer to another win and gets its chance today against MORNINGTON. Look for the in-form Andrew Taylor, Jake Prosser and Adam Eggleston to show the way for the Kangas. Three successive losses have tested FRANKSTON YCW’s resolve, but the Stonecats should put their season back in track by beating KARINGAL. Michael Chaplin (27 goals) is enjoying another good season, as is Mitch Rowe and Owen Vine. A red-hot SEAFORD can snatch top spot from MT ELIZA today. The Tigers’ only loss was to the Redlegs in Round 1 but in recent times the yellow and black have been dispatching all comers with ease. BULLDOGS FACE TEST IN THE UNDER 19s... MORNINGTON (9-5, fifth) can take a big leap towards a finals berth by beating third-placed LANGWARRIN. Tim Susovich, Luke O’Connor, Luke Ambler and company have been in terrific form for the Bulldogs. Langy (13-2) are having a great season, with the likes of Tom Branch, Josh Holloway and Bayde Mate making their mark. SEAFORD has been struggling lately and will find it tough against ladder leaders MT ELIZA, with Callan Rice and Nelson Forrest in good recent form. KARINGAL scored a stirring win last week to keep its finals hopes alive but another test awaits today against FRANKSTON YCW. The Bulls will look to the in-form and reliable Tom Baker, Zach Bartling and Brendan Lord to show the way. EDI-ASP should be able to back its 10th win today against PINES.

Today for the second week running, the Coburn Oval plays host. We welcome the Karingal Bulls and Bullettes and their supporters.Watching on from the Rooms, it’s the annual Collopy Club luncheon with guest speaker Gary Buckenara. Last week it was so cold it would have frozen the walls off a bark humpy. It was windier than the following day after a binge on the Madras Curry ! And to boot we had to contend with the Tigers. In spite of this Hutchy’s Heroes charged out of the rooms and had the game ‘iced’ at half time. They had a good win over the cubs with Blacky, Haydos, Callen and Harry dominant. Murph’s Marauders had another tough day in the office but fought back well in the second half. The Charlies (Patto and Coyne) did well, Viney was consistent and wasn’t it great to see Zinzi running around. Cappy’s Champs were held goaless in two quarters by a resilient bunch of Tigers. In the worst of the conditions we hung on by a couple of points. Great to see our u/19 boys kicking 70% of the goals. In a slogging contest Bysa, Bundy, Laffa, Eamer and Tony L stood out The Stonekittens won three of their four games. Read their details elsewhere Keep August 12 free for the StoneCats Cup night Jason and Tanny have the details. On August 19 (Chelsea game) we have the John Silvester (aka “Sly of the Underworld”) lunch where he’ll expand on matters football and Underbelly. Cost includes a two course luncheon and a two hour drinks package - see The Prez for bookings. It will sell out

Round 15 - only 3 to go after today, how fast has the season gone? Thanks to all who braved the wind last week @ Frankston. While there was no rain it was certainly arctic conditions as we took on Edi-Asp. Both the Unders and Reserve games were dour, low scoring affairs that went down to the line with only a kick in it for most of the last quarters....thankfully both teams came out on top. Two in a row is a much needed confidence boost for the Ressies and the Unders kept their finals hopes alive with a gutsy win The senior game was also a real tussle with only a few points separating us until the last quarter where Edi got a run on and took the points. A good showing but sadly could not keep the pressure up for the full 4 quarters. The Bullettes squared the ledger at 2 apiece Big thanks for your support to our 2017 Major Partners - Frankston RSL, RAMS, BMK, Pizza Fellas, Mornington Race Club, Decking Out Melbourne, Thompson Lucas Commercial, Bluegum, Sports Injury Clinic, Wignall Ford and CrownBet Some big projects currently happening - Bulls / Long Island Foundation Fund is up and running with Vaughan Lucas our first Platinum member....fantastic support! Club Notes Has there ever been a colder day to watch footy ? Though the weather was cold the day warmed the hearts of all our senior players and supporters! Up against Chelsea , WE HAD A WIN !!!!! Every player committed themself to the task at hand and we played good sensible footy which was needed given the blustery conditions. The youth of Kyle , Zac and Mitch Cuthbert combined well with the likes of Boof, Patto and Parker, Siz , and Peachey. All in all it was a great day for the mighty Langwarrin Football Club. Coaches , players , committee and supporters all certainly belted out the club song with much gusto at the end of the game. if we can play with that same level of passion and commitment this week at home against Mornington we could well be back in the winners circle again. In the other games our two’s went down and our Under 19’s had a comfortable win. The club was sad to see 2 fairly serious injuries in the Under 19’s . Get well and back on the track soon boys. Club Notes Bonbeach visited the kennel last week and after 2 good wins we were confident of knocking of another contender. On a very windy day we didn’t take advantage of the breeze early where as Bonbeach did leading by 3 goals at half time. Needing to make the most of the wind in the third we kicked poorly (7 points) and still trailed at the last break. The final quarter was a stalemate and we couldn’t peg them back. Smith, Turnbull and McCleary tried hard all day, we just didn’t have enough winners over the ground on the day. Looking for a better performance today against Langy. In the ressies the boys started in the 1st half against 3rd on the ladder only to be down by 4 goals but with the rest of the day was a struggle with the boys not making much headway but still having a go until the final siren. Thanks to all the players who are stepping up and filling in to help with the numbers. Boys we really appreciate it ,big game against Langwarrin today. The pups had a good solid win. Their ball movement continues to improve along with their ability to hit targets under pressure. Last week the game opened up after half time as their opponent tired due to lack of rotations from their bench which allowed us to put in place some good passages of play. The challenge for us now is to remain competitive with those teams above us on the ladder and there is no better test than Langwarrin on their home deck. We are looking forward to the challenge to the challenge that today presents. Go Dogs

Club Notes

Today the club welcomes Edi/Asp for what should be a great contest. The competition is very even and stakes are high for today. With some of our leaders back on the park we look forward to settling into a rhythm and produce our best when it counts. Reserves get a chance to show their development and get back on the winners list. Have the talent to go up a notch if they can play out 4 quarters. Thirds continue to present with pride against the top sides. Really looking forward to further development in this crop as they have attitude necessary to succeed, and are showing improvement in their skills. Thanks to all sponsors and members for contributing to such a big year. Anyone who does not received the weekly email please contact the president and will get you added. Mark is issuing the first of our ‘Buy Pines’ promotions this week as part of strengthening our club as a community.

A big thank you to Sports Life & Training (SALT) for coming down to the club last Wednesday. The presentation was kindly organised and donated by AFL Sth East and Melbourne Racing Club. SALT talk about issues that are very real in day to day society and sporting communities. Topics such as, mental health and well being, drugs and alcohol, discrimination and racial vilification. Following this presentation SALT will look at our results conducted during the presentations and make recommendations to our club moving forward. Our intentions is to ensure as a club we have the right mechanisms in place in dealing with such important issues. This will not only be available to our players but anyone involved at the club. Please chat to the Prez for more details if you are interested in learning more. Huge congratulations goes out to our Netball Prez, Chelsea Robertson who notches her 100th game for the club today! The club has been so fortunate to have someone as dedicated as Chels has been. Not only has she played over 80 games in our A Grade side but this season will be her 5th year in charge of our Netball department. Club Notes

Firstly apologies for not having the Footy Records at the game last Saturday. Thanks to the Pines people for sticking around in great numbers after the games. To last weeks results and 7 from 7 was an outstanding day for the Club. In blustery conditions the Under 19’s started strongly booting 5.5 to nil in the opening term, before Pines dominated the 2nd kicking 4 goals to 1. After a strong message at 1/2 time the boys booted 2.6 to nil to extend the margin to 5 goals at the last change.Three goals to 2 in the last saw us win by 7 goals. Forrest booted 3 to be in the best again, along with Ricey, Galley, House, Smith & Campbell. The Reserves led by a couple of goals at 1/4 and 1/2 time before kicking away in the 3rd with 4.6 to 0.1. We held firm against the wind in the last to win by 5 goals. Ristrom, Tim Strickland & Jimmy Logan kicked 2 apiece and better players were Nick Strickland, Thorpe, McKinnon & McIlroy. The Seniors kicked with the wind in the 1st quarter but only managed 2 goals. Pines dominated the 2nd, but their innacuracy (3.9 to 0.1) kept us in it. We failed to capitalize up forward in the 3rd and trailed by 15 points at the last change. In a great turnaround against the breeze we kicked 4.4 to 1.4 to sneak home by 3 points. Best players were Lachie Young, Tom Small & Fin Bayne, along with Jim Anwyl & Happy. The Club’s thoughts are with Jay Neratzoglou following his recent serious knee injury. Three very important games today - Good luck to all sides! Social: Tonight “90’s Party” from 7pm at the Club - Sat 12th August - Auction Night from 7pm at the Club. Netball Preview Peninsula Netball Preview –

Langwarrin V Mornington

Round 15 2017

Last week Langwarrin had the bye and this week welcome the Doggies to Lloyd Park. Mornington took an eight goal win over Bonbeach which one would think Bonbeach would be quite happy with. Langwarrin the week prior were competitive against the Bulls and will be looking to sneak a win to improve their sixth position on the ladder while it’s a must win for Mornington sitting fifth by eight points.

Karingal V Frankston YCW Last week the Bulls suffered their first loss of the season – a narrow one point loss to reigning premiers Edi Asp. The loss will not see the Bulls lose their top spot on the ladder as they sit eight points clear. The Stonekittens also narrowly lost to Seaford. Sitting in seventh position on the ladder – this was an incredible effort against third placed Seaford. Today the game will be played at Jubilee Park, while it is unlikely that the Bulls would lose two in a row – YC really could capitalise on the home court advantage.

Seaford V Mt Eliza Seaford took a win last Saturday in a close one against YC. Mt Eliza had a comfortable 14 goal win over Pines. This week they meet at Linen House in third V fourth. Seaford are one win clear in third position while Mornington are nipping at the heels of the Redlegs in fifth. This game will be a close one – maybe too close to call!

Pines V Edi Asp Edi Asp last week knocked off the undefeated Karingal by one goal while Pines suffered a 14 goals loss to Mt Eliza. This week they meet at the Snake Pit on the new court. The Pines ladies have become incredibly competitive in season 2017 however they face a tough take in all four games this week against the Eagles.

Netball Notes Mornington Bulldogs

It was a tragic match for A Grade with club stalwart, Sarah Williams breaking both her elbows in a fall. We wish Sarah all the best. Sophie B has made the most of her opportunity with a best on court performance in defence. Georgia also gave a brilliant effort leading her team well after the shocking injury to Sarah. The girls rallied well and despite a mini surge from Bonbeach managed to come away with the four points. B grade had win but it was a scrappy affair with plenty of players hitting the deck, it was the our mid-courters that put on relentless pressure to make it so difficult for Bonbeach to get the ball into attack. Mel as outstanding who stepped up again in WA. Katey once again was a standout proving her versatility moving from goals into defence. The girls combined well together to pull off a 26 point win. C grade were beaten by 4 goals. We will miss Meg who badly injured her ankle and is out for the season. Finals hopes are dashed with our loss on the weekend so now we will aim to finish as strong as we can. Best on was BT, along with Lucy, Lara and Mel they worked super hard across the court. Welcome back to Larissa, who had her first game since hurting her knee in round 4. D grade had another solid win, pushing themselves up into the top 4 winning by 25 goals. We now are in a position that we want to keep so the remainder of the season we will give it everything we have. Pippa was BOC playing a great game in defence. Good Luck today Go Doggies WOOF WOOF

Mt Eliza Red Legs

Last week we played Pines at home, we have been hitting some form at the right time of the season & were determined to put our foot down this week. D GRADE set the scene early with a dominant performance, everything just clicked & it was a full team effort on court. Krystal, Olivia & Renae were unstoppable in defence & only allowed the pythons to shoot 13 goals for the match. Taya & Bec drove beautifully onto the ring to feed the shooters well, helping to win the game 54-13. C GRADE followed the same trend, they built as each quarter went by & were relentless in their attack of the ball as well as their defensive pressure. Scoring 70 goals for the game they won the game with Pines scoring 28. Marcie was dominant while our defenders (Kate, Lauren, Katelyn & Mandy) combined well. This C grade team really is a force to be reckoned with. B GRADE had a shaky start & lacked intensity for part of the game but it was great to see that when it counted they were able to put their foot down & lift the standard to walk away winners (45-32). Karen played a great game in WD with many tips & intercepts while Kate did a good job in C. The girls now need to continue to step up & bring a consistent level of intensity every week to finish off strong. A GRADE have been building momentum steadily over the past 4-6 weeks & it is starting to show. They won 54-40 last week with positive performance from Ellie & Jayde, while we also welcomed Chloe back. Keep fighting girls, time to step it up!!!

Frankston YCW StoneKittens

We knew Seaford were going to play a fast style of game and this was experienced in the A grade game. The girls went into the second quarter a few goals behind but came out firing with lots of pressure and turnovers. Unfortunately we took our foot of the pedal and made poor decisions in the 3rd allowing Seaford to dictate the game and ultimately gain the 4 points. BOC goes to Coach Jess Tobin for her strong presence and control in the attacking end. B grade girls had a very convincing 51-25 win. The girls started strong and while the last half didn’t start with the same strength, we managed to pull ourselves out of the slump and finish each quarter with hard work, determination and great netball. BOC goes to Evie with almost 90% goaling accuracy and super strong hands to the ball. C grade girls also had stellar game working hard both in defence and attack and making many less mistakes than in previous weeks. There was a lot of back up and pick up efforts and pressure applied to create the turnover. A great game and complete team effort! In windy conditions the D grade girls had a great 29 goal win. The overall vibe was on the low side and we had some messy passages of play however in saying that we had some amazing pressure down the defence end. BOC goes to Tanya who worked very hard to get back, this week after injuries and did some amazing work in the goal ring.

Edithvale - Aspendale Eagles

With only 4 rounds to go before finals, we were determined to gain four points in all grades as we travelled to Dingley to take on Chelsea in our Round 14 clash. Icy strong winds made goaling difficult for all goalers but also made each team adjust their games to the blistering conditions. D grade kicked off the day, claiming the four points in emphatic style. Full court defensive pressure helped the girls keep Chelsea scoreless in the second term as they ran away with momentum from then on, eventually taking a 20 goal win at the final whistle. A great effort by our girls. A scrappy C grade battle then followed. After losing last time we played we were out for redemption. We struggled the entire match to break free on the scoreboard under very frustrating circumstances, which made it feel like we were playing against more than just 7 players on court. Unfortunately things didn’t go our way! We let our slight lead go and at the end we had to split the four points, drawn match! B grade were up next. Our girls fought extremely hard and played competitively against a well drilled Chelsea outfit. At times you could mistake the game for A grade match, producing quality netball for four quarters. Chelsea ran away on the scoreboard, dominating the game and shattering our hopes of securing the four points. As we know Chelsea don’t play A grade therefore our A girls got a well deserved rest to prepare them for their run home with finals in sight! Go Roos!

The Berry Fitness Round v Pines Thank you to Brad Berry from Berry Fitness for sponsoring this round of netball! Brads’ continued support of our netballers is terrific! A former premiership player, captain & coach with the Eagles, Brad’s training session always give our girls that fitness edge on court. Decision making under duress!! If you want to be Berry Fit, call in to see Brad at 285 Nepean Hwy, Edithvale. Recently it’s been all about our milestones & this week we have 2 more! Congratulations to Chelsea who plays her 50th game today! Chelsea is a ripper being a dual Premiership player, two times winner of the League’s Hot Shot Award & club award winner. Chelsea is a very promising player for the Eagles & we look forward to seeing her smiling face for years to come! Also this week we welcome Zoe into the 100 game Club! Congratulations Zoe! A dual Premiership player, League Representative player & club award winner, Zoe is a super talented, agile goaler & we look forward to your next 100 games as an Eagle. Well done Zoe!! Last week all 4 games were fantastic contests against the Bulls. Our A grade team managed to break their undefeated run but we’re well aware that even though the Bulls fielded an amazing team, there’s another 7 VNL players who were unavailable last Saturday. Looks like we got lucky with the fixture! This week we look forward to playing Pines at their new courts at their footy ground. Good luck to all Eagles playing today! Soar Eagles!!

Karingal Bullettes

Last week saw us play Edi Asp at home. D grade were playing with the bare minimum thanks to some sunny holidays for a few and injury unfortunately. The girls who did step on the court did a great job, a loss of 28. Slightly more than the last time we played them however with no bench it was understandable. C grade had a hard fought game on their hands from the start to the finish. An explosive start helped the girls who kept the lead the entire game. With the birthday girl Tayla sitting on the bench and Elise Mac in sunny Noosa - the girls did a teriffic job especially Stevo in WA! After an average game the week before - this was a much needed win for C grade! Excellent work! B grade took the second win for the day and retain top spot on the ladder. As always BBM was outstanding while Em just impresses in goals every week. Breeza is great under pressure wherever she plays. Another VNL game that was poorly timed interrupted our A grade game who had their first loss of the season by a nail biting one point. The girls who played double games were amazing as were Sammy and Birgitta in goals! Cannot wait to have this squad all back together firing. This week we head to Jubilee Park to take on Frankston YCW. #GOBULLS #REDWHITEBOOM

Seaford Tigers

What an absolute miserable day for netball it was. With sub zero temperatures and what felt like hurricane Tracey rolling in, our supporters really had to batten down the hatches on the sidelines to cheer the girls on. Unfortunately the poor conditions resulted in some poor results for our d, c and b girls unable to get a win on the board. A grade riddled with injury welcomed back the Withers sisters for a cameo appearance to help field a depleted side – we are happy to have you back at the tiger den next year ;) The girls braved the elements as well as the physicality of the YCW girls to have a tight 4 quarter battle. The girls showed great heart and pulled away in the last quarter to nab the win – what a great team effort! The girls are sitting nicely in the top however are not complacent and gunning for strong finish home. This week marks another big milestone for our club with our netball prez Chelsea Robertson celebrating her big 100th game! Chels has been instrumental in our clubs success working tirelessly behind the scenes off court and of course leading by example on court in our A grade side. Congrats Chels – lets celebrate with a win against the red legs!

Chelsea Seagulls

It was great to match up again against Langwarrin at our home netball courts. Last time around our D grade lost by 41 points, C grade had a small margin win and B grade drew. This time we were looking to improve our margins. The D girls put up a great fight! We came out fighting and were neck and neck during the first quarter. Unfortunately for us, Langwarrin were strong in the second half and we could not catch up. Though we lost - we improved and halved the margin. Beth smashed it in just her second game for Chelsea with amazing intercepts and rebounds throughout the match. We have a bit to work on still, and we’ll be ready to come out fighting next week against Bonbeach. C Grade faced a tough battle. Neck and neck for three quarters a whole team effort pushed a big comeback in the fourth quarter. This time around we finish on equal scores. Perri played another consistent game dominating though the centre. Lexie really stepped up today in goals and earnt a best on performance. B Grade carried on their form from their final quarter against Edi-Asp the week before. The whole team is playing together so well at the moment and each of the players are contributing. Having drawn in our last meeting with Langwarrin we knew we needed to rise to the challenge! Hayley worked well in the ring and down the court earning her best on, and in an amazing effort by all, we won by a convincing 29 points. We hope to continue form when we meet Bonbeach next week.
