AFL South East Competition Review The AFL South East Competition Review is now nearing to an end with the AFL South East Commission to meet next Monday for a presentation from the Review Panel. The Commission will then review the information presented with a decision to be made around mid-August on the competition structure. Finals Venues Announced 2017 will see football and netball finals action being played at many different venues across the Mornington Peninsula. Please see below for the venue allocated for each week of finals. Bendigo Community Bank MPNFL Update Round 16 2017 Female Kickstart, All Nations & Boormiul Trials begin The search for Victoria’s most talented Indigenous and multicultural female footballers has begun, with the commencement of the Kickstart, All Nations and Boorimul Program regional trials. Held in community venues across Victoria, the regional trials provide talented Indigenous and multicultural footballers with the opportunity to showcase their skills and be selected for one of three AFL Victoria diversity talent programs. The Kickstart and All Nations programs give Under-15 footballers from Indigenous and Multicultural backgrounds an opportunity to fast track their football development through a highly enjoyable on and off field program.

Selected players from the regional trials will form Victoria’s Female Kickstart and All Nations representative squads which will compete against the best players from across the country in the AFL National Female Diversity Championships later this year. In addition, the regional trials will also serve as an identification platform for the newly developed Female Boorimul Program. Drawing on similarities from the highly-successful Laguntas program for males, the Boorimul Program supports talented young female Indigenous athletes aged 16-20, to not only maximise their football potential, but also to engage with Australian Football through umpiring, coaching and administrative work in the AFL. Six regional venues will host trials across the state from July 26 - August 16 including Mildura, Shepparton and Ballarat, while two trials will be held in metro Melbourne at IKON Park and Werribee Football Club.

Football Preview Do or die for Tigers & Eagles By Toe Punt Dromana is locked in battle in yet another RPP Match of the Round this afternoon when it plays host to Somerville. After winning seven games on the trot and going two games clear inside the top five, the Tigers have lost their past three matches to Frankston, Sorrento and Red Hill. Today is do or die for both teams and that is why it is so important that RPP FM (98.7FM) brings you all the live action. This is how it looks as we head into the all-important last three matches of the season. Red Hill, Dromana and Somerville are all on the same amount of points heading into the final three games (32). Red Hill has the superior percentage of 116.55, Dromana’s percentage sits at 113.03 and the Eagles are a fair way back on 102.41. Red Hill has the easiest of runs in their final three matches. The Hillmen tackle Devon Meadows this weekend at the Meadows, before finishing with matches against Crib Point and Tyabb. The loser of today’s game between Dromana and Somerville is finished for the season – they can’t possibly make it!

After the Eagles, Dromana plays Pearcedale and Rye in the final home and away games of the season. If Somerville can beat Dromana this weekend, they finish with games against Tyabb and Crib Point. DROMANA was very good against Frankston Bombers and Sorrento a few weeks ago but seemed to run out of a bit of steam against Red Hill. With the season on the line and playing in front of a home crowd, I expect that the Tigers will find a little extra today against SOMERVILLE. The last time the two sides played was in Round 8. Reece Wilde booted four goals and Sammy Fowler three while Hutchison, Clarke and Christie dominated in the Tigers 14.9.93 to 10.17.77 victory. Justin Allsop and Timmy McGenniss were outstanding on that day too for the Eagles with a couple of majors each. The Eagles were super against Devon last week and will be confident against the Tigers. They arguably should have won last time considering they had 27 scoring shots to 23. If the Somerville stars can all be at their best, the likes of Rolfe, Hogenbirk, Rowe, McGenniss, Allsop, McKenzie, Westermen, Sedgewick, Speedy, Crowe and Wilson, then Somerville wins. If ever there was a game for boom AFL recruit Andrejs Everitt to take a game by the scruff and dominate, this is it!

Football Preview HASTINGS simply has to put in a better performance than it did in Round 11 against SORRENTO today. On that day, the Blues managed just five goals from eight scoring shots while Sorrento had 42 scoring shots of their own, recording a 17.25.127 to 5.3.33 victory. Leigh Poholke booted five goals and James Hallahan and Corp three each on that sad and sorry day for the Blues. Hastings was O.K without being brilliant in its loss against Frankston a couple of weeks ago and last week it did what it had to do against Crib Point. Both teams come-in without their absolute best on the park, including Chris Dawes who is still suffering from a calf strain for the Sharks and Brendan Dunne out with an ankle for the Blues. Good to see Lance Brouwer back for the Blues while they’ll be keen to get Terry Green into the back half also. Green is a good match-up for Poholke. The Blues are a hard working team. The Sharks just have way too much polish. The other four games should all fall in favour of the favorites. ROSEBUD plays host to CRIB POINT in what you would expect will be a one-sided game. Great to see one of the stars of the competition in Keegan Downie back again last week and he is the icing on the cake to this side.

The Buds had five multiple goal kickers in their 16.20.116 to 7.8.50 win over the Pies when the sides met in Round 11. Ned Shannon starred for the Pies on that afternoon. Suffice to say that the Buds have had a very nice trip this season in terms of its draw and one can’t help but think it is looking forward to round 18 against Sorrento. However, it’s important that they remain focussed and continue to fine tune their game plan. The Magpies made no secret of where it was positioned at the start of the season and they have continued to play the kids – it’s the only way to improve your footy club when you can’t have 150 people at $80ph to a luncheon at every home game. It’s been a tough initiation for coach Brad Arnold but he has wonderful leadership and support around him. FRANKSTON BOMBERS beat RYE by almost 100 points when the teams met way back in Round 5. The challenge for the Demons is to see how far they have come since that 3.8.26 to 17.19.121 thrashing. It’s a big test for the young Demons but one thing we know is that coach Josh Moore and his charges will embrace the challenge. The Bombers are a slick operation. They have the talent to win the whole box and dice.

Football Preview When it clicks, and it hasn’t yet, they have the ability to slip into a higher gear. TYABB and PEARCEDALE should be a cracker. There was less than a kick in it a few weeks ago and there won’t be much in it again this week. The Yabbies were a little disappointing against Rye last week and one would hope that they will rise to the occasion on home turf today. The Panthers have struggled again all season and it will be a challenge for them at Tyabb. DEVON MEADOWS host RED HILL and the difference between these sides will be consistency across four quarters and leg speed. The Hillmen won’t stop running for 100 minutes and whilst the Meadows will hang on for a while, they won’t be able to go the distance. Red Hill has showed tremendous resolve in the past couple of weeks – backs against the wall, the Hillmen have responded. I questioned whether they had that selfbelief and desire – those questions have been answered. Now they need to remain focussed on the prize. The hard work isn’t done yet! There’s still a spot in the finals that needs to be locked away. The Meadows have battled bravely in what has been its toughest season.

The under 19’s opened the day with a strong performance against Hastings. Aaron “Saus” King and Harri Dekleuver were prominent all day swapping through the middle of the ground and up forward, each finishing with 4 majors to their name. Ryan “stix” Regan also played well controlling the wing and providing drive into the forward line. The magpies finished with a 10 goal win and will be looking for another win this week against Rosebud. The reserves side were slow to start the game against Hastings but a couple of miraculous goals from Gordon Frankel and Mark Cairns allowed them to pinch the lead at quarter time. A few familiar faces in Mat Wappett, Dan Wise and Cal Holt took the field for the reserves side for the first time this year all providing good efforts. Hastings ran away with a 42-point win after a strong last quarter. The reserves will be hoping they can run the game out better this week against Rosebud. A reasonable start for the senior side fell away after inaccurate kicking for goal in the first term allowed Hastings to gain the ascendency. They took full advantage finishing 104-point victors. Young gun Aaron Whitford stepped in for his first senior game for the club and played good across the backline. Ned Shannon and Mitch Chopping also played well for the Crib Point side down back and up forward respectively. This week the side will be hoping that they can bring a stronger performance against Rosebud. Go Crib!!

The last couple of weeks off the field have really highlighted our traditions and sense of community. The past players & premierships reunions we wrote about last week, a real highlight. Last week’s “Ladies Do Lunch” function was special for lots of reasons – the Social Rooms looked like the Windsor dining room; the guest speakers who totally inspired, were two home grown wonders – well done Monique & Amanda; and to the men braving the elements on the verandah it was clear a great time was had by all! During the previous week we also had the great news that Adrian has accepted the clubs invitation to continue his great coaching work in 2018. On the field the seniors dominated Pearcedale from the get-go, but not without an early fight from the Dales. Inspired to give Spoons a win for his 200th they had 43 scoring shots to 13 and a dozen goal kickers. The champ himself was adjudged best along with Sean, Rosie, Seb, Keegan & Bart. The Development Squad methodically took their opponents apart in a 10 goal 3rd quarter. They were given every opportunity down forward by DC, Jordan, Lachie, Schwindy, Benny G, and Matt. The Unders again missed out on a game for the 4th time – where is the leadership from AFLSE on this issue??? A vote for AFLSE Option 1 or 2 is a vote to kill Under 19s & netball! Tonight’s Bizzare Gazzard function will be a cracker and get your ticket to hear the Macedonian Marvell, Peter Daicos at the Presidents Lunch on 12 August. #HandsOffMPNFLFootyNetball! Go Buds!

What a great weekend with the girl’s football team having their first win for the club. With the seniors regaining their place in the five, and the 2s and U19s consolidating whilst the netball girls taking all before them there wasn’t much more that we could have asked for. Today the19s have the morning off, but the senior sides have it all to do with the Tigers and Sommie breathing down our neck, and the Yabbies nipping at our heels. Today’s game against Somerville may determine whether our Senior team finishes 5th, 6th or 7th and is sponsored by Global Plumbing. Last week saw all our teams lose with the U19s unable to find a way to put a meaningful score on the board with Red Hill converting with ease. The reserves had the scores tied at the last break but unfortunately went down by two late goals. The senior game started well with Dromana holding an eleven point lead at quarter time in very windy conditions. With the wind favouring the club room end it was hoped that Dromana could build on their first quarter lead but poor kicking let Red Hill back into the game and we were only up by 7 points at the major break. The second half saw Red Hill outscore us 5 goals to 2 and Dromana were unable to get their game going eventually losing by 13 points and possibly seeing any chance of finals football fly out the door. We now sit in sixth position on percentage and on equal points with Red Hill and Somerville who have relatively easy runs to the end of the season. So today’s game is vital in getting the break on Somerville and we need a percentage boost over the remaining three rounds Last Saturday night saw the club hold its Mid-Season Ball which was well attended with everyone having a great night. Massive game today at Dromana! With a mathematical chance of making finals for the 1s we MUST win, it has been a number of years since we have been down at Dromana, so we need to put our best foot forward. Last week saw us get 2 from 2, with the U19s having a bye. The 2s finally, with some numbers back had a good win against Devon. The first half was a great performance. Against the wind, we managed to keep Devon to 3 goals and scored 1 ourselves and then when it was our turn we used it well kicking 7 to 1. The boys ran out 29 points winners which was great for the morale of the team. Luke Burton once again starred. The 1s kicked with a gale in the first quarter and poor kicking kept Devon in the game. 5-8 in the first wasn’t the start we were looking for. At one point we were 9-18 with Devon only 21 points down and kicking with the wind in the last. We finally hit our straps kicking the last 5 goals of the game to run out 38 point winners and bagging the valuable 4points. Yesterday was our GolF Day and it was great to see so many able to get the afternoon off and play golf with your mates and earn some money for the building fund. A really big thank-you to Merksey for organizing the event again. Don’t forget ladies lunch next week against Tyabb @ home.

We came up against the benchmark club last week and fell short in all 3 games. The most important factor is the lessons that we can learn, work on any shortcomings & improve our strengths for a strong run home & then a successful tilt at the finals. Every player needs to get behind our coaches and strive to improve individually and collectively. Certainly loved Malf’s barrel to the centre circle, goal from the pocket, Kinga standing on a Sharks head and Zac’s work up forward. Not so keen on Beau’s tape bill after the game and Musto’s pyramid might not be our defensive zone, but where he lives. Tickets for Luke Hodge & our Businessmans Lunch on August 11 are just about all sold. If you see Batty today he will be able to fit you in, but don’t waste time or the ship will sail without you. Our last home game is going to be massive for a host of reasons and so come on down & join in the day. It is Bombers “love your sponsor” round as we acknowledge the support of the best group of sponsors on the Peninsula. Players, invite your personal sponsor down to the footy as a gesture of thanks and maybe even shout them a drink. Round 18 will also see the unveiling of a new naming plaque for the Norm Parker Pavilion. The Parker family dominates the history of our great club & this honour will be a fitting recognition of Norm’s tireless contribution. Can’t say too much, but there will be another homage to a club great on the day, be there to show your support to a Bomber legend. GO BOMBER

OKTOBER FEST in July was a great success, well done to Rach, Sarah, Jodie and Doogie, for organizing such a great night. Steins went well and those that dressed up, you all looked amazing. Last week we only had the two games. A great win in the seniors, against a team that were trying to make in 2 on the trot. Oscar Whitty and his partner in crime, Ben Trivett had outstanding games closely followed by older brother Harry Whitty. The skipper was superb all day, and another great game to Adam Kirkwood, while Harrison “Spider” Wilson was back to his best. The reserves are playing some good footy and nearly got the chocolates, going down by 10 points. Tim Churchin was BOG, with Clayton Barnes stepping up from the U/19’s played a perla, along with “Roaming” Jarvis Anderson. Doogie, Cam Dunn and Matt Wylie were all in the best. Some say Matt Wylie was also BOG Saturday Night. Congratulations to Corey Peterson in winning through to the next round of Game Face’s U/19 longest kick competition with a 64m bomb, just pipping Gus Gordon on 61m. Major Raffle time is on and we are selling tickets, please see any player or committee person. Only 800 available, $35,000 1st prize and 5 prizes of $1000. Only $100 per ticket, drawn at the club on Sunday October the 15th. Free drinks and lunch to all ticket holders. We travelled to Rye with high expectations in windy conditions that would test both teams, it was Rye that had the edge. The first qtr was an even contest with both teams desperate for the ball. By half time Rye had the lead by 24 points and were showing their class. The second half we couldn’t match the quick ball movement and pressure applied by Rye and the end result was a strong win to Rye. Better players for the day were Wrenford, Williams, Cox, Rahilly and West. With good numbers at training this week we must regroup quickly as we take on Pearcedale at home today in a big test for our young team. Nothing less than 4 qtrs of hard contested football is expected today. Reserves - It was another wild and windy day which would make it very hard for both teams to execute any clean skills. With Rye having first use of the breeze they were able to jump to a three goal lead at quarter time. This was erased quickly with Dimkos kicking three himself in the first part of the quarter. It was going to be a test to see who could make the most of the wind in the second half and it was Tyabb who were able to kick the first three goals of the last quarter to edge ahead by 10 points in a tough day for both sides. What a fantastic week off the park the Dales had last week with the Under 10s from the Juniors coming to training and many of our players attending Junior training on Friday night. It was a big game for the unders to stay in contention and they didn’t disappoint. It was a fast start with the wind and that set the tone for the 4 quarters. This group has grown over the season and are getting a real belief. Our destiny is in our own hands and it would be a brave person that a put a limit on how far they can go. Another big challenge today before the weeks rest, leave nothing in the tank. The Scoobs continue to get the job done, no matter how big or small. Frankston at Frankston may have been a mountain to high to climb in years gone by, this year it’s a challenge to embrace. It’s been a super season so far but as the wins continue to stack up, the determination of the opposition to knock off a top side grows also. That ensures a solid hit out each week which will hold us in good stead moving forward. For the second week in a row the seniors had a really good hit out against a quality opponent. When the heat was applied the Sharks took it up a level and came away with a good win in the end. The challenges continue to come and today will be no different against last year’s premiers. What a great day last Saturday was with a very successful ladies day, and a well attended past players day, to top it off a couple of good wins in the footy, and a packed social Club after the game, this is what playing your local rivals is all about, its a pity that the powers that be at the AFL South East, were not in attendance, because if the league have their way, that will be the last game between Hastings and Crib Point for some time, and that will be sad!! The unders came up against the 3rd placed Magpies, in terrible windy conditions, they toughed the game out but just were out classed, the Reserves had another good win and have hung onto 3rd spot, but need to keep winning to ensure they play finals, percentage may play a part, so keep working at it boys. The seniors recorded a very strong win against the young Crib team, and have climbed back into 3rd, but like the ressies, need to keep winning to keep that double chance alive. Stingrays “STINGRAYS SLIP UP AT FRANKSTON” ROUND 14 MATCH REPORT The Dandenong Southern Stingrays’ run of wins has come to a grinding halt after a heart-pounding 2-point loss to the Gippsland Power in Frankston on Saturday afternoon, going down 14.8 (92) to 14.10 (94). With the Armageddon of winds forecasted for Saturday, the day at the beach at Frankston was always going to be tricky, with the wind favouring the city end by around four goals as well as favouring the Grandstand side of the ground. Gippsland were the better team for most of the day, however they struggled to capitalise on the scoreboard, keeping the Stingrays close enough in the game to nearly snatch it in the dying minutes. Dandenong’s trademark attack on the football was also severely lacking, with the young Rays looking lethargic and missing for significant parts of the match. This in part may have been the loss of two of their hard-nut players in the first quarter, in Ali Zijai (ankle) and Captain Joshua Bateman (blurred vision from a head knock). Gippsland collected the largest part of possession around the ground, and Dandenong were simply unable to keep up, giving away undisciplined free kicks and making poor decisions. The Stingray defence did perform marvellously, with Mason deWit, Jesse Davies and young gun William Hamill once again stand-outs. Through the middle there was a standout, that being Hunter Clark who accumulated 34 possession’s, 16 handball receives, 7 clearances, 10 inside 50’s, 4 rebounds along with 2 goals to be named best afield on the day. Also, particularly noteworthy was big man Tom Dekoning, putting in his best performance of the year, amassing 42 hit outs, and providing the Stingrays with some muchneeded tall timber in marking contests, especially in the last quarter standing tall. Riley Darcy was again the most dangerous Dandenong forward, supported by Campbell Hustwaite with both bagging 3 goals, but with mediocre support around the ground, the Stingrays never really deserved to win the game. Unlike the previous 6 weeks the entry inside the forward line was shallow or wide, with the midfielders unable to hit up the leading targets. “Gippsland definitely had much more intent around the footy, and were willing to work a bit harder around the contests,” admitted Craig Black after the game. “ “The third quarter they took all their chances in front of goal, but I thought we’d done enough to match them giving ourselves a real chance in the last to run away with it.” “It’s a tough competition, we know that. Today we left our run late and as a group we want except it, we want to have a winning culture as part of our development of players. We let ourselves in a couple of areas, which we will address on Tuesday- then focus on the Pioneers.”

The first term didn’t start well for the Rays, as Gippsland opened the scoring from a free kick but it was quickly rewarded with back to back goals to Campbell Hustwaite. Unfortunately for the Power, goalkicking let them down, as they could have blown Dandenong away with the aid of the strong first quarter breeze, with the scores at quarter time, 2. 7 (19) to 2.1 (13). The second term continued much as the first did – this time the Stingrays dominating the scoreboard. The midfield pressure from the Stingrays gave first use to the forwards who slammed on six goals, with the defence only allowing 3 goals to see the Stingrays lead by 13 points at the half-time break. The third quarter was genuinely disastrous for the Rays – while they continued to give away stupid free kicks and make poor decisions under pressure, Gippsland regained the lead, booting six goals, seemingly unimpeded this time by the wind as they took all their chances in front of goals. There was a distinct lack of urgency in the way the Stingrays were playing – and despite terrific individual efforts from swinging utilities Mitch Cotter and Hunter Clark, the Stingrays went into the last term on the wrong end of a 10-point deficit. Black challenged the midfield, pleading for better use going inside 50 asking forwards to give more leads, as well as reassuring the group that the game was there for the win for whom ever wanted it the most, with now a slight drop in the wind a 2-goal breeze it should have been an easier task for the Stingrays to make it 7 wins in a row. Again, there were flashes of the Dandenong side that cruised to a 6-0 win record in the past 6 games, but this was after allowing the Power to extend the lead to 19 points in the opening minutes of the first quarter. Gippsland managed two more goals against the breeze whilst the fast finishing Stingrays come home flying until the final siren sounded on the Rays’ devastating loss by two points on a day that could have been. Dandenong do still retain fifth spot on the TAC Cup ladder, but from today’s performance, they still have a lot of work to do if they want to hold on to that mantle and go deep into the finals. This week the Stingrays take on the Bendigo Pioneers at Shepley Oval on Saturday at 2.00pm before the final bye in the TAC Cup the following week. Bendigo Community Bank Nepean Netball Preview – Round 16 2017 Crib Point v Rosebud The Magpies enjoyed the week off last round and will be refreshed and ready to go for the last three rounds heading into finals. This week they take on Rosebud who took care of Pearcedale last week by 25 goals. Whilst the Buds cannot make final they will be doing what they can to shape the outcome of it and knocking of the reigning premiers would be a game to put in the highlights real. Crib Point are all class though and it would be hard to see them lose this game. Devon Meadows v Red Hill The Meadows girls have certainly had a tough run home and it continues today when they take on Red Hill. After a netball lesson from Somerville last week they now face finals contender Red Hill and the ladies form the hill had a nice win themselves last week over Dromana by 44 goals. Red Hills will need to gain any momentum today as the next two weeks they face both Crib Point and Tyabb and with Frankston nipping at their heels they need all the wins they can get.

Dromana v Somerville Dromana were on the wrong end of a tragic loss last week and will need to pick up their game this week against ladder leaders Somerville. The Eagles are soaring along nicely, pick off their prey one week at a time and Dromana is their next target. Frankston v Rye Could it be possible that Frankston could steal fourth place from Red Hill?! The answer is yes. Over the last three round the Bombshells will play Rye, Devon Meadows and Pearcedale and they would like to think that all three ticked off as wins. Whilst they will win against Rye today and the next two, they need to be ready for a final grade of netball in 3 weeks’ time. Tyabb v Pearcedale A twenty-eight-goal win to the Yabbies last round over Rye see them continue with confidence leading into finals actions. After this game though it will already be finals mode for the Tyabb girls as they take on Somerville and Red Hill. Last week saw us take the short trip up the Hill for a very long day. U17’s had a slow start to the day being down by 7 at quarter time only to slowing edge their way back, the last half the girls got their heads together and fought back strongly to end the game with a draw. Awards went to Molly Austin and Eliza Pittard. With Finals just around the corner we need to make sure we coming firing from the start girls! The rest of the day wasn’t so good our slow first halves put us behind in all grades. If we come out like we do in the second half of our games things would be a lot different. Maybe everyone had the Ball on their minds, looks like everyone had a great night. Special thanks to The Secret Acaiety one of the newer sponsors really supporting the girls this season! Good effort from the C grade last week but in the end Frankston were to good. Frankston’s strong defence and shooting led them to an early lead which we were not able to come back from. Steph killed it in goals this week and was able to beat the wind and score most of our goals. Jazzy and Ella both played great games in the mid court. Looking forward to next weeks game against Hastings, were we can hopefully get our first win of the season. The B girls played a good game against frankston with an awesome first quarter, we were changing positions through out the quarters to see who played better in which position which worked out awesome having our Centre player Charlie playing Goal Shooter with Emma and smashing it. The wind was very hard for the girls to shoot with but all the girls played a great game. In defense Brooke Jen and Macey worked great holding frankston back from scoring. All round awesome team effort girls. Bring on next week! The A grade girls also struggled with the extremely strong winds. Mid court did a great job of moving the ball down the court, thanks to Annie for filling in from u17s she killed it!

Somerville Eagles

Last round we faced Devon Meadows down at the nest. Devon Meadows experience and accurate goaling saw the D girls lose by a sizeable margin. Our girls though continued to show how much they have developed and improved as a side. After losing to Devon the last time they played them, the C girls were determined to get the win. Our intensity and pressure was great and our goaling spot on, allowing Sommie to win by 6 goals! Although it wasn’t very pretty, the B girls also came away with a win last round. The game highlighted some areas of improvement and the girls will be working hard at training coming into finals to fine tune some aspects of their game. The A girls continued their undefeated season. They started off reasonably slow but accurate goaling and lots of tips and intercepts cemented the win. This week we face Dromana, we are looking forward to 4 tough matches and (hopefully) 4 wins on the board. GO EAGLES!!

Bendigo Community Bank Crib Point Magpies

It was not a day for netball last week at Hastings with winds blowing a gale but we pushed through. D grade started the day off with a very tight game. It was neck and neck all game with the windy conditions making it hard to convert but our girls remained steady. It was a long battle but when the final whistle blew it was Hastings that came away with a one goal win. BOC went to Kirra for her best game of the season by far in GK against a much taller opponent. C grade rallied through the day with a 20 goal win. A few illnesses during the week didn’t stop the girls from putting in a convincing effort and remaining strong all day. BOC went to Stacey for a ripper game in defence getting tips and intercepts all day. Well done to Laura for slotting into the team well and having a great game! B grade kept the spectators on the edge of their seat for most of the game being 5 down at half down to come back after a great third quarter to win by 3. It was a great team effort that rallied together. BOC went to Alicia who only came on in the second half but golly did she have a positive impact plucking tips and intercepts out of the air. This week we’ve got Rosebud at home, let’s finish the last bit of the season off strong with 3 wins! Go Crib!

Tyabb Yabbies

Last week we travelled to Rye in a spectacular day for netball. Despite the final result D Grade played one of their better matches for the year. Kelsey & Georgia worked beautifully in the ring for the whole game & really stepped up in a very inexperienced attacking end. Amy was also a superstar as she continuously worked to bring the ball out of defence & into the attacking end. C Grade have been struggling with injuries & missing players but were able to overcome all of this to take out a cracking one goal win. The girls were given individual goals which they were all able to achieve out on court. Hannah’s efforts in attack were outstanding, repeatedly doing the hard work to open up the goal ring. B Grade continued their good form from the previous week. From the first centre pass their whole court defensive efforts were ruthless and use of the ball was composed & creative. Rhi routinely takes her opponent out of the game & provide excellent drive down the court. A Grade have put together some excellent wins recently but the match against Rye was one of the better whole team efforts of the year. Starting with highly intensive defensive pressure, the Yabbies were able to move the ball down the court with greater flair and speed. Kiz finished off well with high goaling accuracy. Today we welcome Pearcedale to the pond for our second meeting. Last time we were able to secure the win but not in the most attractive fashion. We must work on improving that today. NIP! NIP

Red Hill Hills

U/17s this week had a great start again but girls we just need to work out how to maintain our intensity for 4 quarters! The D grade girls had a great game with Bella and Grace strong in the goal ring. Liv had a great game running in centre and created many turnovers and passes perfectly into the goalers. Evie played a great game in the defence! We were strong throughout the whole game and everyone played there role and came away with a terrific win! Like D grade the C grade girls played a great game. Millie and Abbie a strong duo in the goal ring! Bridgette had a great game in WA and passes beautifully into the goalers. Chloe M played great in the defence end. We were strong throughout the whole game and everyone played there role and came away with a terrific win. B Grade continued to develop player versatility and we had many changes through the mid court and in goals. Our skillful, short sharp and fast paced game plan worked well and we made the most of the defenders turnovers! Keep it up girls to end the season well. A Grade continued to adjust and fine tune defending and attacking combinations and we are lucky to have players who are affective in many positions. We have our eye on the final four and know we can do it.

Rosebud Buds

U17s – It was a tough game playing the top side. We went out with the mindset to have fun & enjoy playing netball. Unfortunately Gem went down hard in the early minutes first quarter. The girls continued to give it their all but didn’t come away with a win. Well done to best on Liz & Alana. C-Grade – What a game of netball our team played today. We came up against Pearcedale who were 4th on the ladder. Last time we met we were outplayed 36-20. This week we came out firing & beat them by one goal! We played a great game all round. Well done girls and bring on today’s game! We smashed our goals this week & showed how our training is working! Best on Bec & Haylee. B-Grade – We had ambitions of a strong start & we followed through with it! We got a lead in the first quarter and managed to hold onto it until the end. Jess was fierce in GK and Sunnie in centre court winning them – both the best on court today. Well done team, great effort! A-Grade – It was a dominant and disciplined win from A-Grade with a super consistent effort. Thanks to Emma White, Tracey & Eggs for filling in. It was hard to pick our best players this week because of the even spread of effort, a wonderful game to watch. Awards – Bethany & Daisy #HandsOffMPNFLFootyNetball! Go Buds!

Devon Meadows Panthers

D grade came out firing on Saturday beating Somerville by a convincing 24 goals. It was some of the best netball the girls have played with everyone sticking to their channels and driving hard on to the ball. With only 3 weeks left the girls have some tough training ahead to hold there position of 4th on the ladder. Special mention went to Georgia, best on Tanie. The C grade girls from the starting whistle were under full court pressure by sommy. With goal to goal scoring the girls were behind by 2 goals at half time. The girls unfortunately were unable to stay with sommy’s improved goaling especially with multiple injuries. Looking forward to having a full team back this week. BOC Jilly for all the thurnovers. The B grade girls knew that we would have our work cut out for us facing Somerville at their home courts. They are a class team and their first quarter proved this. In the second we went out focussing on making use of opportunity, treasuring possession and scoring our centres and played an even quarter. Even though we went down the girls never gave up and the end result was Somervilles closest for the season proving how much we have improved! Let’s finish our season off with 3 strong wins! A grade came out fighting out on Saturday and put up a strong defence. The girls had quite a bit of possession but unfortunately were unable to convert them into goals. Sommy are a very strong team and we always knew it would be tough. The girls never gave up.

Hastings Blues What a windy day, but that didn’t stop our D grade girls from recording their very first win for the year. They all played their part and turned around their poor form from last week. Congratulations to Taylah Strange their coach, she has worked so hard with these girls to get them to achieve such a good hard fought, team orientated win. C grade had a reasonably good day despite losing the match, they challenged the Crib Point girls at every stage. The most pleasing part of the result was that have to dramatically improve the result from the first time we played them. Coach Nicole Marasco was very pleased with their effort and their never give in attitude. B grade was great display of hard fought netball with neither team taking a backward step. The Hastings girls got off to a great start in the first quarter taking the lead. The Crib Point girls kept chipping away at the lead, drawing level during the third quarter. There was plenty of opportunity provided from the defenders in the last quarter but with the wild windy conditions the attack end couldn’t convert. In the end Crib Point got over the line by 3 goals. A big thank you to Crib Point for playing each match an hour earlier so we could have our Ladies Day function which was a great success.

Frankston Bombshells The weather forecast was for Sharknado 7, however the wind was more a swirly breeze, and the Sorrento sharks were actually quite friendly. With C grade jousting for a top two finish they kept an eye on the scoreboard for a potential percentage booster. Prolific Ash decided unselfishly to share the goals around with Beth, Lozzie and Jade in a great display of teamwork, as good as she’s been on court has Ash been a bit MIA off court? Twinkle toes Tahlsy was ruthless in wing defence and commanded her fellow border force comrades not to let anything into Sorrento’s attack. Winning 55 to 9, Captain T got the job done. B grade are still persisting with this slow start tactic, some say its lulling the opposition into a false sense of security but I’m not sure will get much traction against some of the stronger sides. In a defenders dream day where intercepts were the norm and rebounds were sought after, our shooters were amazing at chasing up missed shots. A grade kept the finals dream alive with a 66 to 17 win. Cath and Em were unstoppable in attack, and Grace picked up that many intercepts that even her Dad grew bored by it. Musto aka betty Spaghetti was not distracted at all by her hubby’s broken nose, or her own potential broken shin and claimed BOC. Finally to G, you are unselfish, magnanimous and inexhaustible in your commitment to this club and your teammates. We are ridiculously lucky to have you and thank you for being you. Congratulations on your 100th this week! A big thankyou to Pearcedale for allowing our games to start early to accommodate our very successful Ladies Do Lunch function and to everyone who prepared for and attended the function.

Rye Demons

For our last home game of the season we hosted Tyabb. Out D grade started out the day with a great 52 to 17 win! The girls all played fantastically, with Emily Harris the Best on Court. C grade was a hard fought battle, with everyone giving it their all against a strong Tyabb team. We ended up going down by 1 goal, but all the girls can hold their heads high as it was a vast improvement on the last time we met. Best on Court was Sarah Tardio. The B grade girls played their best but couldnâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t keep up with the well drilled Tyabb unit. A few injuries in B Grade meant a we had a number of under 17s who stepped up and did extremely well. Best on Court was Samantha Harris. The A Grade girls knew the game was going to be hard, but went in with a positive mind set. They worked hard and did not give up. The final score was Tyabb 43 to Rye 15. Best on Court was Sienna Wills. Go Dees!
