AFL Vic Country

Bendigo Community Bank Best Off-Ground Campaign AFL Victoria, together with Swisse Wellness, is calling on all community football fans to nominate their most dedicated and passionate off-field Australian Football champion as part of the Swisse Wellness ‘Best Off Ground’ campaign.

To enter, simply visit www.swisse.com/bestoffground to nominate your local legend by providing a photograph and a paragraph of no more than 250 words on why they deserve to win. HURRY! Nominations are now open and close on Sunday August 27.

Celebrating the unsung acts of greatness within the football community, the campaign encourages footy fans to nominate a ‘behind the scenes’ person they believe helps their club take on the season. From coaches to canteen superstars, parents cutting up oranges to umpires, AFL Victoria is encouraging football fans across the state to give their ‘three’ votes to those who inspire them in the community and volunteer their time for the love of the game, week in and week out. 2017 Swisse AFL ambassador and Geelong Falcon product Patrick Dangerfield is getting behind the Swisse Wellness ‘Best Off Ground’ campaign and is urging other Victorian locals to do the same. “I’m personally giving ‘three’ votes to my local coach Jamie McKenzie for inspiring me to pursue a career in football. Rain, hail or shine he always pushed us from a young age to be and play our best,” Dangerfield said. “It’s great to work with Swisse on a campaign that gives back to those who make it all happen. Without the efforts of the hardworking volunteers in the sport, we all wouldn’t be where we are today.” The 2017 Swisse Wellness Best Off-Ground winner will receive an unforgettable AFL experience including: • Tickets to attend the 2017 AFL Brownlow Medal Dinner • Two premium reserved seats to the 2017 Toyota AFL Grand Final • $5,000 for their nominated local footy club.

WorkSafe AFL Victoria Country Football Manager Jim Cail

There will also be two lucky runners up who will join the winner and attend the 2017 AFL Brownlow Medal Dinner.

Football Preview Down to the final round By Toe Punt

All eyes will be on two games this afternoon in MPNFL Nepean Division – Dromana v Rye and Red Hill v Tyabb. There is just 1.64 per cent separating the sides in fifth and sixth position (121.76 v 120.12) with Red Hill able to extend their break by .8 of a per cent in their win against Crib Point last week. When Red Hill played Tyabb in Round 5, the Hillmen had 40 shots on goal, booted 20.20.140 and won by 102 points. Dromana played Rye at RJ Rowley Reserve in Round 10 and although they won the game, it was hard fought, kicking 12.11.83 to 5.8.38. If history was to repeat itself, Red Hill will maintain its position in the top five and enter yet another Elimination Final against Hastings. Red Hill will be able to semi-rest Chris Irving and leave him alone with Jono Ross inside attacking 50. They’ll kick a dozen between them. Dromana did a wonderful job last week kicking a big score, as well as defending the ground well. One senses though that the Demons, in the last game of the year and coming off a bye, will throw everything at the final game of the season.

8

It’s hard to see Dromana winning by more than five goals than Red Hill, which is what is required for them to jump the Hillmen on the ladder and grab fifth place. Rosebud will need to produce more than what it did last week against Hastings if it is any chance to beat Sorrento in the final home and away game of the season today. The Buds have been working on their press for the most part of the season and against the ‘weaker’ sides in the competition, it has worked extremely well for them. The big test was always going to come against Hastings last week and Sorrento today – how would the press stand-up against the best sides in the competition? Last Saturday in its first game against a strong opposition in the past two months, the Buds were exposed badly on the overlap against a side that has struggled to consistently penetrate its forward 50 this season against good opposition. Hastings was brilliantly coached last week and whenever they got possession through the middle, or Rosebud turned over the footy at half back, Blues players counterattacked by streaming forward and converted most of their opportunities. Rosebud just didn’t work hard enough to defend when the ball slipped out the back. Team defence is the buzz word with teams and Rosebud didn’t do it for long enough last week.

www.nepeanfnl.com.au

Football Preview Considering Sorrento is the most damaging running side from defence and given its quality and leg speed through the middle, the Buds could get caught out if they don’t work harder. Leaving Sorrento’s Leigh Poholke or Nick Corp one out in attack could also be an issue, as proved to be the case last week with Paul Rogasch booting six goals. Brenton Davidge has been a great player for many years and continues to be but it was a tough ask to have him go head-to-head with Rogasch without support around him. Given Sorrento had a week-off last week, you can guarantee that their brainstrust would have been at Olympic Park last Saturday to pick apart Rosebud’s game plan. Execution is key. This is Sorrento’s last hit-out before enjoying another week off in the first week of finals. You can be assured they will throw everything and more at it! Both Frankston and Hastings will be looking to hone their skills and manage players in their final hit-out against Pearcedale and Devon Meadows respectively. Given nothing can happen from a ladder perspective, regardless of the results, it is a great opportunity for the Bombers and Blues to ‘manage’ their list in preparation for finals next week. The Bombers could grab second if Rosebud loses to Sorrento but it still means they face off with the Buds in the Qualifying Final next Saturday at Frankston Park.

Football Preview Hastings cannot move from fourth position and will face Red Hill in an Elimination next Sunday at Tyabb. Pearcedale needed to have its best side on the park every week this season to be competitive against the best. Unfortunately for them, this hasn’t been the case all season. Devon Meadows started with a skinny list in terms of depth and it too couldn’t afford injuries. When the Meadows’ have had their best on the park, they too have been ultra-competitive. There’s no question that there’s some pride on the line for the Panthers and Meadows and they’ll want to make a statement in the final game of the year, especially against finals teams. It tells a good story for recruiting purposes next season. One senses that the Bombers and the Blues will just go through the motions on Saturday and not get out of third gear – what’s the point? Somerville will be looking to close out the season on a positive note with the view to build for 2018. It was a challenging year for the Eagles this season with a number of quality players leaving for different reasons in the off-season, including some good depth players. Then there were injuries to the likes of Justin Farrelly, Hogenbirk, Sutton, McKenzie and Kellerman, all walk-up starts to any side in the competition. The positive is that other players have been given opportunity, now understand the requirements of senior footy and hopefully come back to pre-season ready to go. Crib Point too will be glad the season is behind it. It’s been a challenging one. Many look at the Crib Point list and see names like Herrington, Davidson, Warry, Arnold, Stratton, David and Jacob Cook, Dekluever, Chopping, Symes, King and Stansborough and wonder how they can only have won two games for the season. There’s also a heap of kids that have been given opportunity this season, none more impressive over 15 games than Ned Shannon. Mark 2017 down as a write-off for the Pies but with a committed pre-season, the Pies could well be the big improver next season.

Club Notes

The last Home & Away game of the 2017 season is today and we still have a chance to take a place in the Senior finals, but, first let us thank our sponsors for their generous support again this season. Last week saw our Reserves record another win by overrunning Pearcedale in the last quarter by kicking 4 goals to nil after trailing all day. A great effort from all players. Dromana Seniors trailed Red Hill by less than 1 percent prior to the game against Pearcedale and it was apparent from the first bounce that we were determined to try and retake fifth spot as we led at every break by an ever increasing margin to eventually run out 77 point winners, but alas, it wasn’t enough with Red Hill winning by 78 points. So now we come to this week’s clash against Rye and again we will need to produce the same sort of football if we are to have any chance of reclaiming fifth spot. Today will see a ‘Legends’ game following the Senior game. It will start at approximately 6.30pm. On the coaching front Rikki Johnston has been reappointed for the next two seasons. The Reserves and U19s positions have been advertised Next Thursday night will be the club partial vote count for our football teams. The start time will be announced after today’s game and will depend on whether we are playing finals. Don’t forget to buy a $2 raffle ticket for a chance to win a Major Raffle ticket. Major Raffle tickets are on sale now. The draw will be held on the 10th September. GO TIGERS!!!

Club Notes

Well after our big win against Tyabb, it was back to reality when we meet Frankston 2 weeks ago. Our young list though, would have learnt a lot from the game and we must make sure we take that into today’s game and pre - season 2018. We never gave up and some inaccurate kicking at goal, certainly made the scoreboard look worse that it was. With 7 under 19 boys playing seniors and another 4 boys under 21, we are in a good place for the coming years. Joel Wills was our best player, along with Spider Wilson in the ruck, Kyle Lynch, and Morsey. Harry Whitty and the Skipper Adam Kirkwood battled hard all day. Pity the Frankston U/19’s Coach and Team Manager, don’t quite know the rules when an opposition team has only 16 players, let’s hope the karma bus doesn’t come calling and their numbers are strong for years to come. Our U/19 boys battled valiantly with 1 player short for a half, until that was rectified at ½ time. Gossy, Jeansy, Ben Closter, Jacko Allen, Cee Jay and Barneys were all in the best. The reserves too battled hard with limited numbers due to injuries, Matt Wylie was sensational all day, James Appleford back from injury was a welcome addition, Mitch Hillyear, Doogie, Will Cooper and Cam Dunn were great all game. Tickets for the big raffle are on sale, get your tickets from any player or committee person for your chance to win $35,000. There’s a lot going on today @ Bomberland and we invite the family to embrace everything that is happening. Lets start at the end of the day, something huge is happening immediately after the finish of the senior game on the terracing/deck area. As soon as the siren sounds please move to that area as we bestow a fitting honour on a couple of Bomber legends and get around them. Speaking of legends, an icon of local footy Travis Reints plays his last game of footy today. Travvy has been a great senior footballer for our club, always put the team before himself, who can forget his selfless GF act and a super mentor to our reserves players with his coaching. We salute you great man! Our last home game is also Love Your Sponsor Round as we pay homage to the people and businesses who keep our club on the road to success. The signs around the Greg Beck Oval are not just decoration, the personal sponsors displayed behind the bar are not just for show they are businesses putting their hand in their pocket to support you and others within our den. Do the right thing & seek out the sponsors, thank them and buy them a drink. Your love shouldn’t end there, the sponsors would enjoy some of your business and it’s the duty of the family to support those who support us. Imagine how much easier next years sponsorship deal at Karingal Optical will be if you have purchased your glasses or sunglasses from them. It’s all about being part of the Bomber family. Enjoy your day at the footy

We head to the Bombers this week for the last home and away for the season. This season has flown by with many firsts for Pearcedale including having the guest players of Daniel Kerr and Barry Hall in marquee games at the beginning of the season and welcoming our women’s team to Tractor Park. 2017 has been quite a ride! As we end our season today it is time to say a massive thankyou to the hard worker Dales who run the club. It takes a massive effort to do all the jobs and raise the bucket loads of money required to put teams on the park. The committee and crew this year have done an outstanding job. At Pearcedale we pride ourself on being a tight community with everyone chipping in their bit from committee, coaches, timekeepers, bar, line marking, and those players in the canteen. Every little bit helps and is appreciated. Seasons end is nowhere near happening on the social front with the girls playing tomorrow at home from 10am and the major draw and family fun day being held from 1pm. Tickets still available, so see a player or committee member today or tomorrow at the club. Presentation night, Friday 15 September. See Mandy for your tickets $30 or $50 a double. All teams from the football and netball sides will be there. Look out for the four Junior sides in the finals series. Check out their website for game times. Get down and support them. Thanks again to everyone for their support in season 2017. See you at the AGM on November 20 and preseason.

And so it comes down to the last round. Our buffer over Dromana is not great in the seniors, so that a high score with a low score from the opposition is the requirement. The twos will retain the double chance with a win, whilst the unders have secured the double chance with their narrow win last week. An old fashioned spray almost got Cribby, who were playing for the double chance, over the line, but our boys held on. The football-netball championship sees us with a two point advantage over Frankston, so wins over Tyabb in any game should help us retain that trophy. Well done girls last week on your efforts in trying conditions against formidable opposition. Our girl’s football team couldn’t make it three in a row, but gave their best. Another debutant last week- well done Trey - a well deserved promotion coupled with a solid performance from Stingray listed Dan Frampton. Irvo stole the show with seven, and Jonah gave a wonderful display down back with his brave intercept marking. Stay back tonight -food available and celebrate a wonderful year across the board. Club Notes

We headed to Somerville last game with a few more debutants to our seniors. Playing their first game of senior football for Tyabb were Nathan Buchan and Jake Gaillard. Both players were solid contributors and showed they can play at this level. The first half was played in windy conditions and made it hard for both teams with many scoring chances missed. At the break the margin was 17 points in Somerville’s favour. It was Somerville who adjusted better in the second half and took the points comfortably in the end. Better players for Tyabb were William, Cox, Sparkes, Buchan, Underwood and S Rahilly. Reserves-Yet another windy day greeted us at Somerville. The mood of the guys before the game was good and they jumped out to a small lead early in the game. Some mistakes kept letting the opposition back in to the game and by half time it was the smallest of leads to us. In general a scrappy game was fought out with the boys eventually breaking clear with the leaders stepping up when required. It now sets it all up for the last game where destiny is in our own hands. Win and we play finals. The hunger and passion is there amongst the group so lets do this! Big outcomes for both of today’s games v Redhill. TONIGHT’S FUNCTION - Lip Sync Battle NIP! NIP!

So here we are, the last Home & Away game for the season. We saddle up against Crib Point back at the nest for last game of the season. The U19s have made the finals and if they manage to get the points against Cribby could earn themselves the first week off for the finals. The 2s have been totally decimated this year with more than 12-15 injuries every week and numbers being low on the track. They have managed to snaffle 7 wins for the season and the group are hoping to go out winners today. Noodles, has found it very tough this year, but their has been improvement in a number of players and regulars 2s from last year are now entrenced in the 1s. The 1s are playing for pride, games against Devon (away) and Dromana (home) cost us a finals spot for this season, but under Bevan Malloy & Dre Everitt we have managed to play 7 players who have made their debut. This includes a number of U19s which is a great sign for the future of the club. Please don’t forgot raffle tickets with the draw being held in the rooms tonight at 6.30pm. We will also have a DJ to celebrate the home and away season. Andy Palmer our President, informed us that we he will not be going around again next year. On behalf of all involved in at our great club we would like to thank Andy and his wife Chris for all their tireless work they have done over the years. You will be sorely missed and these will be massive shoes to fill! It will be time for knockers to step up! Go eagles - Elwin

The under 19’s would have liked to have come away with a win against Red Hill to help secure a double chance in the finals but it wasn’t to be. Unfortunately, they fell short by 5 points. Ryan Regan was best afield for the magpies working hard through the middle of the ground whilst solid efforts from Aaron Whitford, Ned Shannon and Aaron King also allowed the magpies to stay in the game. This week the side will face Somerville in what is a must win game if they want to finish top 3 come the seasons end. The reserves got off to a slow start against Red Hill giving them a 5 goal head start. Red Hill finished 71-point winners. Mitch Chopping was dominant for the magpies whilst Riley “rizzle dizzle” Clifford also played well for the magpies through the middle of the ground. The reserves will be looking to finish off the year on a high next week when they come up against 7th placed Somerville in their last hit out for the year. The senior side took it up to Red Hill early in the contest. A big second term for Red Hill lead to them turning it around and they ran away with a 78-point win in the end. Brad Davidson was strong up forward all day for the magpies, slotting 4 goals whilst Ethan “drumstick” Smith also provided a good option heading into the forward line. Although the side weren’t able to win the game there were a few positives to come out of the game and hopefully this builds a platform for the side to build on coming into the last round of the season. GO PIES!

First of all a big welcome to our match day sponsor, Dave and Karen from NewsXpress Hastings, your support is greatly appreciated. So just like that we come to the last round of home and away football for season 2017, it has come and gone very quickly. Just recapping on last weeks game, the under 19,s while they got beat last time they played the buds they lost by around 100 points, so to go down by 48 points is a great improvement, well done boys. The reserves have spent all season in the top 3 but last weeks loss to 2nd place Rosebud has seen the boys slip out of the top 5 very disappointing. The Seniors again played a good game against one of the top contenders, narrow losses to Frankston and Sorrento and last weekends draw against Rosebud has the boys coming into the finals series in reasonable form, though we will definitely be coming from the Elimination final again, though our opponent wont be known until after todays round. Devon Meadows today the under 19,s will get a win as Devon infortunately cant field a team. The Reserves just have to win and win well, they need a big win and have to hope that RedHill reserves beat Tyabb. The seniors have never lost to Devon and so we don’t need to have one today, treat the opposition with respect and head into next weeks elimination final with a bit of momentum. Head to Head

Down to Hastings today to finish off a season i think everyone at the club should be proud of. Cant fault the heart or endeavour of anyone wearing a Meadows guernsey this year and i look forward to 2018 with great hope. Speaking of heart and endeavour, there is one bloke at our club who epitomises those 2 very words. Jess DeHey. He is hanging the boots up today after a long and illustrious career, from Meadows to Stingrays to Springvale (VFL) and back to the Meadows where he became and remained captain from a young age racking up 8 Senior Best and Fairests along the journey. An old school footballer, in and under, head first, uncompromising and hard but fair. An absolute role model on the field for everything you would want in a player. With Jess, footy comes first, everything else second. Pre-Season, training or game-day, Jess is there. That attitude is what has seen him carve out an extremely successful career, albeit lacking the one thing i’m sure he would give up all the b&f’s for - a premiership. The fact he has stuck around through the good times and bad at our club is even more testament to the type of man he is. Congratulations Jess, its been a pleasure to watch you play and i speak for everyone at the club when i say we will miss seeing the famous number 5 dishing out yet another handball from a muddy, congested pack. Looking forward to your continuing impact at the club where i’m sure you’ll carry on being a great influence to the young Panthers of the future.

As the home and away season draws to a close, we’d like to take this opportunity on behalf of the Sorrento Football/ Netball club to thank all our wonderful supporters, members, volunteers and sponsors for their continued support. Without contributions from all of the above football clubs don’t tick, and the Sorrento club is very fortunate to have so many people take a keen interest. We look forward to the finals series ahead and hope we can keep putting smiles on faces with some positive results. A win today for the unders and its finals time, what an achievement that would be. The form over the last month has been impressive but a win today is the way to guarantee our season continues. We’ve come a long way, today bring the A game and a new season begins next week. The Scoobs want a win to lock in top spot which would be a great reward at seasons end. The game against Rosebud is a top of the table clash, what a perfect way to fine tune for what are hopefully bigger things to come. You’ve been terrific all year, we know there will be no let down in the last round. The seniors too is a big clash against one of our local rivals. We’ve been tested over the last few weeks and when the heats been applied the response from the group has been pleasing. We’d expect no different today and look forward to the challenge. Thought of the week: Why isn’t there mouse flavoured cat food!

Today we take on Sorrento & there will be keen interest in the result of all 3 games. The Seniors have the chance to lock 2nd place & take the confidence of a win into finals, the Development Team can finish minor premiers & the U19s can book a spot in the finals. BUT all 3 teams will have to play at their very best to take the points! After the game & sharing a drink with Sorrento we are heading back to the PORTSEA HOTEL (Club Sponsor) for a meal & drinks to mark the end of the home/away season & we encourage all players & supporters to get there. Last week Peter Daicos entertained the crowd at our President’s Luncheon, the U19s & Development Team both had big wins & we observed a minutes silence for Club Legend Don Hardwick joined by Hastings & the umpires. The funeral service for Don will be held at Olympic Park Rosebud on Monday 21 August at 11 am (no flowers). The main game was a thriller with both sides applying 4 quarters of relentless pressure. 15 min into the last quarter Hastings looked like they had opened the floodgates after breaking to a 17 point lead with 3 consecutive goals but a string of 3 goals from Keegan, Rosey & Payney and a missed chance to Hastings resulted in a 10.12.72 draw! Last week despite a lot of AFLSE noise to the contrary 19 MPNFL Clubs for the SECOND time stood UNITED and voted UNAMINOUSLY to oppose the UNINVITED, ILLCONCEIVED & UNWANTED amalgamation of the MPNFL with the South East FNL. Take note AFLSE – we are UNITED to protect the INTEGRITY and HISTORY of the MPNFL competition & will do whatever it takes!!#Hand sOffMPNFLFootyNetball! Go Buds!

Good sports don’t let their Netball mates drink and drive. Preview

Somerville v Crib Point Nepean Netball Preview – Round 18 2017 It is hard to think but Somerville may be slightly relieved We are finally here at the last round of that the at least lost one game. The pressure of an the home and away season. Well done undefeated season can certainly play mind games on to all clubs for theinitiative season in allsupported grades. players. A RoadSafe Victoria by VicRoads At the sameand time,VCFL they will be disappointed as It looks like we will have around 10 of they could have secured top spot, and now they could our 12 clubs competing for the holy fall as low as third. Crib Point were pushed all day by Red grail. Let’s jump into this week’s preview for A Grade: Hill and will have make sure they are again switched on to take on a fired-up Somerville side. Like the Eagles, the Magpies could finish as high as first or as low as third. A Dromana v Rye healthy percentage may just be Cribby’s saving grace if they happen to loss this one, but I think they will make sure Big week for both clubs. Last time they met in round 10 the result goes their way this time. Dromana had a 15-goal win over the Dees, so Rye will certainly be out to reverse the result and finish the year on a high note. Could be anyone’s game but Rye will get the Sorrento v Rosebud revenge they seek. Both clubs had a bye last weekend with Sorrento playing their round 17 game on Queen’s Birthday weekend and Frankston v Pearcedale Rosebud played Hastings who don’t have an A Grade. The Sharks would love nothing more than to get their first win Shock horror to Frankston’s surprises they were beaten of the year in the last game but Rosebud will be too strong by the better side last week. If they want to play finals and finish their year off celebrating a victory. Saturday is a must win against Pearcedale. The Panthers were sensational last week against Dromana, taking home the point for a 17-goal win. Can they dig deep and finish the year with back to back wins? Who knows but it is exciting stuff. Frankston should just get over them though.

Plan ahead, on and off the field

If you’re going to have a few drinks, plan ahead and arrange a ride with a Red Hill v Tyabb designated driver – someone who’s drinking or who’s responsibly Red Hill were handed a lifeline lastnot week from Devon sticking light. Meadows, not to say either that the girls reallyto took it up to Crib Point and a 5-goal loss is more than respectable, so Good sports the Hill Ladies will feel confident they can match it with the don’t let their best come finals. Massive implications on this mates game if drink Red and drive. Hill win they stay in fourth and will face Tyabb against in the first semi-final, Tyabb win there is a huge chance of the Yabbies stealing a double chance. It’sA aRoadSafe final before final supported by VicRoads and VCFL Victoria a initiative and this one is too hard to call.

Plan ahead, on and off the field If you’re going to have a few drinks, plan ahead and arrange a ride with a designated driver – someone who’s not drinking or who’s responsibly sticking to light. Saturday was another fairly tough day out for the girls at Pearcedale. U/17s took on the top of the ladder in a tough contest. Costly mistakes early in the game saw us struggle to to keep up with Pearcedales scoring ability. Award winners were Mackenzie Cochrane and Olivia Okey D Grade played well against some good competition. At times we struggled to score consistently, however the girls played well despite the final score line. Award winners were Liv Geurts and Jo Dewar C Grade took on a very slick Pearcedale team. Inability to convert centre passes into goals saw us struggle to hit the scoreboard early. We gained some momentum towards the final quarter but unfortunately was not enough. Award winners were Leisha Jowett and Shaye Fitzpatrick B Grade continued their impressive second half of the season with an 18 goal win. Once again the girls highlighted what a strong unit they are when they work together. Award winners were Sophie Driscoll and Hayley Pollard. A Grade had a tough game with injuries incurred early in the match. It was a fairly physical game and due to having to play the bench, a lot of our girls had already played a full game. Impressively the girls kept their heads and played hard until the end. Award winners were Rivvy Walter and Laura Hopkins. All 5 teams are looking forward to their final challenge of the season against Rye. Go Tigers

It was a very tough day at the office last week when we welcomed Red Hill for our last home game. D grade had their best game by far. They lead most of the game but got a bit tired in the last quarter with the game resulting in a draw. Their improvement from versing Red Hill second round to now is incredible they should be proud of their efforts. BOC went to Indie who had a great attacking game and Chloe who killed it in WD. C grade had a solid 27 goal win with a team that’s riddled with illness at the moment. Lot’s of turnovers in defence allowed for many turnovers which the girls capitalised on. BOC went to Amie for a great game in GK and special mention to Bridget and Kylie for their first game up in C grade! B grade’s game was physical in both ends and the game was tight all day. An ankle injury to Casey in the first left them with just 7 and during the final quarter a knee injury to Fi left the girls with 6. To push through the last bit of the game and finish with a draw is a hell of an effort. BOC went to Dobbo for her great defensive pressure in attack. A grade started the game amazingly but the second half wasn’t their cup of tea. Red Hill fought back hard resulting in our girls only winning by 5. A hard hit out before finals is good thing and our girls will be ready. BOC went to Tess for rallying amazingly all day in defence. Our last game this week against Somerville! Massive game in all grades, let’s aim for 4 wins and celebrate at our function after! Go Crib!

Rosebud Buds U17s – No game C-Grade – Last week saw some wonderful teamwork on display. We came into the game a little nervous and it showed at the start. In the second half we pulled it together and worked perfectly. Well done to everyone, a great game and team work got us the win (39-31). Bring on this week for our last game. Great win for Ash Farrelly in her last game! Awards – Tiahn and Bridie B-Grade – We came up against another tall side last week which kept us all on our toes. Strong drives were present throughout the game but soft passing let us down in the end. One more game to go for the season and we are aiming for a win! Well done to Mez Woods & Jess Smith who played a strong defence and took out the awards. A-Grade – No game A reminder to all our netballers that we will be heading back to the Portsea Hotel – a Club sponsor – for drinks and a meal (for those that want one) after joining Sorrento for a drink in the rooms after the conclusion of the senior football game. It would be great to see a strong showing from our netballers! #HandsOffMPNFLFootyNetball! Go Buds!

Hastings Blues A big thank you to the Rosebud FNC for inviting our club into their rooms to announce our best players at the end of the day. A great concept, clubs coming together at the end of the day to form relationships, that is what local sport is about. With no D grade game, C grade got the day started. They were very undermanned with injuries and illness affecting their numbers. They had a great battle, never giving up, the second quarter was their best taking the lead. Rosebud fought hard to regain the lead and held to win the match. Best player for C grade was Jaimi Gay, who has got stronger and more consistent as the season has gone on. B grade got off to a very good start in the first quarter being in ahead at the first change. The second quarter was their best. Dominating in the defence end were Taylah Strange, Nicole Ram and Tash Green. Defensive pressure has been our strength all year and now the attack end are starting to become more consistent in finishing off their hard work. It was a great win by the B grade team. Last round this week against tough opposition in Devon Meadows, let’s finish the season strongly.

Bendigo Community Bank Tyabb Yabbies

Last week our games were split across Thursday night, Saturday morning & afternoon to allow the Somerville girls to enjoy their ladies day. D Grade responded well to playing under lights with one of their best performances of the season. The girls found themselves with a 12 goal lead at one stage with Amy continuing her excellent form & working tirelessly all match. Unfortunately we cannot report a win with Somie eventually working their way back to snatch a one goal victory. A gutting defeat for a squad of girls who have made so much progress this year. C Grade had their chances & were highly competitive until half time. Darcey was exceptional in goals, opening up space beautifully for Jaye who was able to capitalise. Morgan worked & worked all match in attack and defence & was pivotal in providing opportunities for her teammates. B Grade came out strong turning plenty of ball over early but as the wind picked up so did the number of missed shots. Half time called for some drastic moves sending defenders into goals & adjusting the midcourt. The changes slowed Somie’s scoring with T confusing the space in the circle but weren’t enough to make a huge difference on the scoreboard. The A Grade match was a cracker from the start. Lots of tight one-on-one netball with Izzy shining due to her enormous workload in the midcourt under immense pressure. Julz was the vital link up between defence & attack & was the difference between the two teams in the end. NIP! NIP!

Frankston Bombshells As we mourn the tips of a fingers, a sad reminder of the dangers of frostbite, we fondly remember the heaters sadly stolen from Devon Meadows. We are the true victims of crime. Our only glimmer of sunshine was our ever faithful D grade. With Beth and Ash shooting like professionals they got the win over Devon and rectified their earlier loss to Devon. C grad were victims of circumstance where everything went wrong from the get go. This week we are applying for monks, priests, rabbis and witch doctors as everyone preys for Hayleigh our fallen soldier and her calf. B grade adjusted for the wind in the last quarter and came agonisingly close to pulling off a win from 9 goals down. But alas, with seconds to go just couldn’t get the chips to fall our way. A grade like c grade did not have the ideal set up and are now facing the old we need to win and need them to lose dibacle to get into finals. That’s ok we love the last round drama and for Cath’s 100th we expect nothing less. To Cath. Congratulations on a Stella netball career. since your return to bomber land you have lead, coached, and scored more goals than I can think to count. You will be putting shots up when the rest of us are fossilised. Go Bomber!

Red Hill Hills

The D grade girls played a great game with Mille strong in the goal ring. Heather and Liv had a great game in the centre court and created many turnovers. Evie played a great game in the defence! We were strong throughout the whole game and it came down to the wire and ended in a draw. It was a terrific game to watch. It was a tough day out for the C Grade girls Abbie had a good game in the goals, Brigitte played well in the centre court and Chloe M was strong in defence! Crib point were to good today but the girls never gave up. The B grade girls were looking forward to being more competitive this time against Crib Point. A draw showed how much they improved since round 2. At the end of the season teams are set and players are tired, Crib suffered some disappointing injuries and we wish the players a swift recovery. Coaching is not an easy job when you have so many talented players to get on court, I thank our bench for knowing they play an integral part in every game. A grade too had a point to prove since they last played Crib and came agonizingly close, with the windy conditions affecting accuracy it was hard to lose only by 5 goals. We know we are competitive against the top three teams, now we need to prove it against Tyabb in the final round.

Somerville Eagles The D girls were lucky to have their game changed to Thursday last week leaving Saturday free to celebrate ladies day. The last time they met Tyabb they lost by a goal. This time they were victorious by a goal! It was a very intense last 5 minutes as the game was really in the balance but in the end, the improvement in the D team shone through. The C grade also played on Thursday night and came away with the win. They had great movement in the goal circle and lots of rebounding. The centre court worked beautifully and there was strong defensive pressure. The B girls came away with another convincing win after a relatively slow start. There were some good passages of play but also a few things to work on after the first quarter. The girls were able to change their came and that was reflected on the scoreboard. The A girls had a disappointing loss. They started off slowly and couldn’t find their rhythm for the entire game. They will be working extra hard at training to fine tune what went wrong against Tyabb. This week we take on Cribby for the last round of the season! We are looking to walk away with 4 from 4 wins to finish off our strong season. A big thank you to the girls who put together a brilliant ladies day last weekend! GO EAGLES!!

Devon Meadows Panthers

D grade kicked off the day on Saturday but unfortunately came away with a loss. The Frankston girls were physical and we always knew it was going to be a tough game. Still sitting 4th on the ladder we are hoping to come away with a good win this weekend over Hastings. C Grade needed a big % boosting win to help in their quest for finals. The defensive pressure resulted in many turnovers and scoring opportunities. The drive out of defence into attack was controlled and patient. A fantastic team effort and great win. Bring on Hastings for the last game before finals. BOC Jess Gracan. The B grade girls looked sharp in the warm up and took it out on the court in what was probably our best start to the game all season. This set us up for a positive match, our conversion rate was up and we did the hard work to maintain possession. The last few minutes we rallied to secure the win. A mighty effort against a strong team. Let’s finish the season with another win. BOC Amy What a way to end our season. A grade brought their A game today. They put all the systems and game plans into place and have come away with a nail biter of a finish and 4 much needed points. No finals for AGrade this year but we have definitely ended our season on a high. BOC Brooke for her leadership and cool head under pressure.

Pearcedale Panthers A very successful day down at the Tractor Park in the rare sunshine last week for all our grades! 17’s kicked off looking to make amends for their only loss for the season which happened to be against poor Dromana. The girls were ruthless and fought hard for every ball, punishing every error on the scoreboard. They were too strong for Dromana, finishing them off by 21 goals and looking ready for their finals campaign. D Grade also put on a very convincing performance in their game, showing their depth despite losing some key players to injury. They kept their foot on the pedal with tenacious defence and accurate shooting, also cruising to a 21 goal win. C Grade were next up and hit the ground running right from the get-go. The defensive end shone, allowing no more than 5 goals in any quarter and finished each point with some crafty passing and accurate shooting from the goaling end. The vibe around this team has been great all season- best of luck in the finals girls! B Grade showed so much spirit despite their depleted numbers and put on a performance not reflected on the scoreboard. A great effort all season, good luck in your last game this week all! A Grade looked sharp and ready to play against a tired Dromana team. All over the court they gave it their all... from tight defence, to hot handed goalers and some killer delivery into the ring -it was beautiful to watch. Good luck to all our teams in their last games against Frankston this week. GO PANTHERS!

Rye Demons

Our last games was on the 5th August when we headed up to Frankston to play the bombshells. It was a great start to the day with our 2nd placed D grade team coming up against the 1st placed bombshells. The girls played hard and stood tall against the experienced Frankston team. We won the game 39 to 32 with BOC going to Emily Harris. The C grade match was played in good spirit and the girls are to be commended for playing out the game so well, but unfortunately didn’t get the win. The final score was 28 to 51, with the BOC going to Amy Jobling in her second game back. The B grade match was a tense match. The girls started slowly, but worked hard and tried to bring it back in the third quarter. Unfortunately they couldn’t peg back the deficit and ended up going down by 17 goals. BOC was Sarah Tardio-Graham. A grade started off the game well and were up by 1 at quarter time. The girls tried their best but were no match for the well drilled Bombshells. We ended up going down 38 to 52. BOC was Shania Gana. We wish our D grade team the best moving into finals and hope to see everyone there to support them. We also Congratulate Kristen Jarrard on playing her 100th game for the club today. Well done Kristen! Go Dees!

Sorrento Sharks Thanks to our sponsor this week prestige hino! The A grade and u17s did not have a game last week against Hastings. An amazing effort from every player on the court for C grade this week. Unfortunately we weren’t able to come home with a win but it was neck and neck most of the game. Amy played a great game in goals and was on fire with most of her goals going in. Defence were once again a stand out on the court, getting many rebounds and intercepts. The girls played a great game against Hastings this week the score defiantly didn’t reflect the game the girls have been training hard to learn new skills and drills and apply them to the game. This weekend they did just that. if only there were a more weeks left in the season because I can see loses turning into wins. All the girls played amazing with our defends setting up and working great together a big thanks to Chelsea Jen and Macey for holding back Hastings from scoring away. Our goalers a trying exstra hard every week to bend those knees and push shots in. I’m very proud of how far the girls have come this season congratulations all of you. One more game left let’s do it girls Rosebud here we come!
