AFL Vic Country

Bendigo Community Bank AFL BLIND RECEIVES FUNDING NOD Blind and vision-impaired Victorians will have the opportunity to participate in Australian Rules football next season, following VicHealth’s Innovation Challenge funding announcement last week. AFL Victoria’s inaugural AFL Blind program is one of six projects that have been chosen as part of VicHealth’s $500,000 Innovation Challenge: Sport program, which supports new initiatives that help less active Victorians to take part in sport activities. In conjunction with Blind Sports & Recreation Victoria and AFL, AFL Victoria’s AFL Blind project will strive to develop an adapted version of Australian Rules football for the Victorian blind and impaired community.

“VicHealth is proud to support such exciting and innovative concepts like AFL Blind. We know that being more active is good for the health of all Victorians, however there are certain barriers including age, disability and skill which prevent people getting involved,” Ms Rechter said. “We’re excited to be partnering with organisations like AFL Victoria as they trial their programs and get even more Victorians active in new and creative ways.” Blind and vision impaired Victorians keen to be part of the first-ever AFL Blind program should contact Tim Nield at tim.nield@afl.com.au to register their interest.

AFL Victoria FIDA Football & AAA Programs Manager Tim Nield said VicHealth’s support will help continue AFL Victoria’s commitment to make Australian Rules football the most accessible sport for all Victorians. “There are approximately 1.1 million Victorians who have a disability, with only 1 in 4 participating in sport and recreation compared to 3 in 4 of the general public, so VicHealth’s funding is extremely important in helping us rectify these figures,” Nield said. “We are excited to work alongside Blind Sports & Recreation Victoria, AFL and key industry experts in this area to help us develop the AFL Blind program which we believe will help increase the physical activity levels of inactive Victorians with disability. “AFL Victoria has a number of disability programs which offer people with disability the opportunity to participate in our great game, and through VicHealth’s support, we will now be able to extend our programs to allow any Victorian with any disability the chance to play Australian Rules football.”

WorkSafe AFL Victoria Country Football Manager Jim Cail

VicHealth CEO Jerril Rechter congratulated AFL Blind and the other winning projects for identifying new opportunities to get more Victorians taking part in physical activity.

Football Preview FINALS FEVER By Toe Punt

Ladies & Gentlemen, boys and girls, welcome to the MPNFL Nepean Division Finals! Hopefully you are all suffering a little from the fever…. FINALS Fever!! Is it just me or does the air smell cleaner, the freshly cut grass smell a little fresher and the heat of the sun penetrating a little more? You probably realise that I’m a little excited! But c’mon, it’s hard not to be excited at this time of the year. We have two wonderful games of footy this weekend, the Qualifying Final between Rosebud and Frankston and the Elimination Final between Hastings and Red Hill. We go into this finals series very much the same way as we went into the series last year – expecting the unexpected. Sorrento looked unbackable for the premiership a few weeks ago but after Rosebud beat them last Saturday and the frustration that spilled-out after that game, there seems to be some vulnerability. News coming-out of the Sharks too is that Chris Dawes, Zac Byrns and Grant Paxton will play no part in finals – that opens the finals’ draw right up.

8

Qualifying Final Rosebud and Frankston met just the once this season and whilst Rosebud looked to be the better team for the most part, Frankston walked away with the points. The Buds have had a solid build-up today with finals-type pressure in its previous two outings against Hastings and Sorrento. Rosebud has outstanding midfield depth with the likes of Sean Downie, Jarman, Spooner, Bentleigh, Dwyer, and Daniel Wilson. The midfield is Frankston’s strength with Kingsbury, Harris, Bosward, Harnett, Degenhardt, the Sutton brothers and Fox all going through there. Ryan Kitchen needs a big, disciplined game for the Bombers to win. In defence, the Buds rely on no-one although Bart Wallace and Seb Kremeich are keys and Jack McRae can play a very important role. It’s all about team defence for the Buds. The Bombers rely on their drive and attack from defence – the likes of Lonie, Buchan and Amalfi like to rebound while Marks-Logan is more the traditional defender. Rosebud will be looking to make the attacking Bombers’ defenders more accountable through the likes of Bentley, Fletcher Hustwaite and Matt Baker. Keegan Downie is the obvious key for Rosebud at full forward and Zac Longham is the key for the Bombers. Longham needs to maintain is good form and Downie needs to focus on the footy.

www.nepeanfnl.com.au

Football Preview On paper, Frankston has the most talented list in the competition. It’s yet to put it together. For mine, it’s attack (Frankston) versus defence (Rosebud). I’m just not convinced yet that Rosebud’s defence is strong enough to hold Frankston. For long enough. The Stats Rosebud Goals For: 16.58av Rank: 3 Goalks Against: 9.12av Rank: 1 Goals: Keegan Downie 51, Matt Baker 26, Ryan Spooner 15, Ben Dwyer 14, Brenton Payne, Greg Bentley, Sean Downie 13 Times in Best: Sean Downie, Ben Dwyer, Greg Bentley 10, Seb Kremeich 9, Jack Jarman 7, Bart Wallace 6 Frankston For: 15.9 Rank: 4 Against: 10.6 Rank: 4 Goals: Zac Longham 37, Sam Fox 29, Jay Reynolds 24, Jake Foster 23, Jason Kingsbury 23, Beau Muston 15 Times in Best: Corey Buchan 12, Sam Fox 11, Dale Sutton 11, Jarryd Amalfi 10, Ryan Marks-Logan 8 Last time they met: Round 9, June 17 @ Frankston The Bombers were beaten all over the ground for the large majority of the afternoon, however, in a really tight contest, a couple of dubious umpiring decisions early in the last quarter swung momentum Frankston’s way and it was able to record a 10.9.69 to 7.14.56 victory. Rosebud led at every change and by as much as nine points late in the third quarter, however, it did cost itself dearly with inaccuracy in front of goal. For a 20-minute period in the second quarter, Rosebud completely dominated the contest, however, four behinds, two out of bounds on the full and one that trickled over the boundary line cost them a match winning lead at the major interval. Matters weren’t helped for Rosebud when star forward Keegan Downie went down with what appeared to be ligament damage to his ankle in the first quarter. Frankston went into the game without James Degenhardt, Allan Williams and Josh Chapman. Frankston’s goals came from midfielders. Matt Harris booted three and was good all over the ground, and Jason Kingsbury (two), was the best player on the ground. Along with Harris and Kingsbury, Dale Sutton was the only other consistent contributor.

Ben Dwyer again proved that he was the best ruckman in the competition, beating Ryan Kitchen comfortably, while Matt Baker was one of Rosebud’s best given his ruckwork, help in defence and three goals when he went forward. Greg Bentley was outstanding also, however, was a catalyst in the inaccuracy in front of goal. Elimination Final Hastings and Red Hill meet in an Elimination Final for the third season in a row. The Blues appear to have come good at the right time yet again, although they haven’t been able to get the wins against the top three in the past month – one thing is for sure, they are conditioned for today. Red Hill’s achilles heel is kicking goals and with Ben Hughes, its leading goal kicker, missing, I’m not sure it can kick a winning score. Chris Irving is the answer but the Hillmen need him in the middle. The resurgence of Sean Marchetti of late through the middle and Steve Ballingal back just might mean Irving can spend more time forward. I know where Hastings’ coach Brendan Dunne would prefer Irving to be (in the middle, not hitting the scoreboard!!). On the other side of the coin, Red Hill has the third best defence in the comp and with Luke Hewitt not around for Hastings, that makes its job easier. The Blues just had too much weaponary the first time the sides met and the Hillmen struggled to make good decisions under pressure. Coming off a month that has included Sorrento, Rosebud and Frankston, on the back of a flag, the Blues enjoy those pressure situations. I don’t see too much changing today. The Stats Hastings For: 16.6 Rank: 2 Against: 11.5 Rank: 5 Goals: Shaun Foster 40, Dale Alanis 27, Luke Hewitt 24, Paul Rogasch 23, Luke Clark 21, Nathan Gray 20, Steven Robb 19 Times in Best: Shaun Foster 13, Steven Robb 9, Aaron Vinson, Dale Alanis 8, Colin McVeigh, Jake Hewitt 6 Red Hill For: 14.1 goals Rank: 6 Against: 10.6 Rank: 3 Goals: Ben Hughes 37, Chris Irving 29, Jono Ross 29, Jake Mold 18, Dylan Hoare 16, Josh Mold, Matt Hyden 14 Times in Best: Michael Mock 10, Jonah Siverson, Marcus Dal Lago, Chris Irving 9, Jake Mold 8

Football Preview The last time they met Round 6, May 20 @ Red Hill Hastings proved that it still had plenty to offer after dishing-out a convincing hiding to Red Hill. Clearly the match of the round, it seemed to be heading in that direction at half time when the margin was three points. However, the reigning premier turned up the heat in the second half and the home side couldn’t match it, losing 15.9.99 to 8.13.61. Hastings booted 11 goals to four after half time. The Hillmen’s sure ball handling and domination from half back and through the middle was non-existent, as Hastings stayed disciplined, structured and too powerful all over the ground. Rarely are Red Hill’s young defensive guns in Michael Mock and Jonah Siverson beaten, however, Shaun Foster and Luke Hewitt had the better of the pair on Saturday. The run from half back was there for the Hillmen but they continually turned the footy over and overused the handball to players under pressure. The home side continually blazed away into their forward line, only to find the arms of Lance Brouwer, Paul Rogasch and Brendan Dunne, who set-up brilliantly, while Jay Austerberry mopped-up everything. Aaron Vinson has grown into a good young defender and beat both Jayden Pain and Danny Allsop, while Jake Hewitt continues to impress. His rebound off half back was first class yet again and he was awarded with the RPP best on field award.

Through the middle, Josh Mulherron had the better of his younger opponent and his on ball brigade delivered. Luke Smith was outstanding all afternoon, but especially in the first quarter, while Mark Devereaux and Nathan Gray dominated. Both Luke Clark and Ricky Ferraro wore the dangerous Chris Irving like a glove and restricted his brilliance around the footy. Hirst was also very dangerous in attack.

Sorrento Sharks

Not the results we were looking for in two of the three grades last week, the unders got the job done but the scoobs and ones went down. Hard to complain about the results over the season however, well done on a good job so far now a new one begins. To Craig Gipp and the boy’s congratulations on reaching the business end, something that looked a long way off a couple of months back. One of the best things about youth is you’re never sure what you’re going to get. This group has come so far, but you feel there’s a few more twists yet. What we do know is these boys go into every contest believing they can compete. Confidence and belief can take you a long way and today a new journey begins. All the best guys leave nothing in the tank, because if you do there may be no next week. The scoobs proved once again you don’t have to be dead to be stiff. One loss for the year in the last round and it costs top spot! That’s unlucky but the focus must switch to our finals campaign. A superb season has given us the double chance and a real shot at the ultimate glory. The loss last week should serve as a reminder that only 100 % effort for 100% of game time will get the result we want. Today is the start of what hopefully is a month-long campaign. Good luck and go hard. Thought of the week: Why isn’t 11 pronounced onety one!

Rosebud Buds

Today our senior side challenge Frankston Bombers in the Qualifying Final after last weeks gutsy 4 point win over our southern-most neighbours. The Development Squad have a well-earned rest after taking out the minor premiership, also beating an undefeated Sorrento – what a consistent season they’ve had! We take this opportunity to acknowledge the efforts of our Under 19 team who, with a large number of first year players & a heavily interrupted season (4 forfeits by opposition teams) finished just outside the five. Their resilience & development this year speaks volumes for these young men and we look forward to their ongoing involvement & growth in 2018. Congratulations to Nathan on his great leadership throughout the year and to Raph on his year as coach. As has been the Rosebud way in recent years, the continued development of our senior defensive unit has been critical and they are the best in the business. Under the established leadership of Seb & Davo, along with the silent assassin Bart, young guns Peggy, Mewie, Stevo, Fish & Jacko have thrived. Big Time continues to give us first use from stoppages & our spread of goal kickers is a challenge for the opposition defense lead by Keegan; Spoons, BP, Matt, and Flech consistently add scoreboard pressure. Another 4 quarters of trademark footy is needed again today! A reminder to players & supporters to get back to the rooms tonight (by 7pm) for our Football & Netball vote counts. Go Buds! #HandsOffMPNFLFootyNetball!

Hastings Blues

And just like that the home and away season is over, it just seems like yesterday we were playing up at Tyabb in our first game, and now this week we take on Red Hill in an elimination final at Tyabb, First off congratulations to Brendan Dunne and the Senior side for making the finals for the 3rd year in a row, not since 90,91,92 has that Happened. Also congratulations to 1st year coach Daniel Lehman on leading the reserves to their first finals appearance in 3 seasons, great effort, though it was a bit nerve racking trying to get the scores to see if the Ressies made it, no game for the 3rds on the weekend but several of the boys have been playing in the Reserves and playing well, and it will be great for these boys to experience some finals footy, it will do wonders for their development. So we take on Red Hill in an elimination final for the 3rd year in a row, while the reserves take on Frankston, the destiny of the Club is now in the hands of the 44 young men who take the field on Sunday, the Senior team is vastly different to the one that took home the glory in 2016, but this years side is starting to click at the right time, the sky is the limit, can they go all the way? This writer believes they can, if the group trust Brendan enough and have faith in the whole 22 players who take the field, then they can win it! 10th Sept vote count day 23rd Sept presentation night 30th Sept Grand final Breakfast Head to Head played 28 Hastings 19 Red Hill 9

Club Notes

Bendigo Community Bank Frankston Bombers

Welcome Bomber fans to the first week on finals & good luck to all as we chase the ultimate success. Our efforts to qualify are a great reflection of our football program, Committee, coaches & their team, all at Bomberland are grateful for everyone’s skills & efforts. Great day last Saturday, highlighted by the naming of the Eric Mushins Trainers Room, our trainer to the stars for over a quarter of a century. Our club is blessed to have such skilled & caring trainers and it was most fitting that Eric be elevated to legendary status for all of his service & care. Our chase for success would not be possible without the generous support of our Club’s major sponsors The Grand Hotel, Hi Tech Paving & Patterson Cheney Isuzu. Hang on for the finals guys, it’s going to be fun. A call to action for every member of the Bomber family, go to Facebook to like & share all the posts from the Peninsula Snapper Challenge which is our major summer fund raiser. Luke Hodge is on board and we would love your help in promoting this great event. Watch the Bombers Facebook closely as the details of next weekends vote count will be announced after this weekends footy. Big day for club favourite Luke Lewis who will play his 150th this weekend in a big final, doesn’t get any better than that does it? Go well to Mud and every one of our footballers & netballers. GO BOMBERS

Crib Point Magpies

The Under 19 magpies side played in a game with massive ramifications on the weekend and were unable to come away with the win. Nick “P Magic” Rutherford and Joel Wisken responded well after being challenged from the coach the week previous with a couple of strong performances respectively. Khai Jones also played well and was strong over the ball in wet and muddy conditions. The unders will now be playing in an elimination final this week against Sorrento. Get around them this week as they begin their finals campaign! The reserves fell 13 points short this week in a respectable performance against the Eagles. Glenn Barclay was best afield for the magpies in what may or may not be his last performance as a pie. Trystan Precht was also strong for the magpies all day. The reserves finished 9th on the ladder at the conclusion of the season with a few strong performances throughout the year. Great efforts by those who stuck fat all season and let’s hope we all make it back next year! A dominant display of football from the senior side proved to be the highlight this week. A 19-65 second half saw the magpies finish victors by 43 points. Two Crib Point regulars in Shayne Ainsworth and Matthew Sloper decided to hang up the boots and will be sorely missed. Congratulations on a great career for these two superstars! The senior side finished the year 11th on the ladder. It was a tough year for the seniors but there is still plenty to look forward to coming into next year.

Red Hill Hillmen

Computer program’s, slide rules, calculators and general speculation were the order of the day as the Hillmen faced the Yabbies last Saturday. 9 Goals in the third quarter and these were discarded as it was evident that we had made the senior finals for the fourth year in a row under Blackers (a club first). A second footballnetball overall championship in a row followed when the netballers delivered 3.5 wins. The girl footballers received a forfeit, A red letter day for all the girls. Josh’s boys were taken to the wire by a persistent Tyabb side in very heavy conditions. They take on Sorrento at Frankston Park (Saturday) preceded by the U19s v Frankston qualifying final. Both these sides made it through to the big dance last year- emphasising the depth and consistency under a well organised coaching panel The seniors saddle up to Hastings again in the Elimination final on Sunday at Tyabb. There is a strong feeling of”Deja vu” about this contest. The defending premiers got over us in a tight contest last year, so let’s reverse the script, and continue our goal scoring spree!! A big thank you to Monty for photographing all the teams last week and his work in the time keepers box. This is extended to all workers and officials whose efforts are recognised by the club, and has contributed enormously to this weekend GO HILLIES Sponsors : Kay and Burton Real Estate Bell Potter Securities Paringa Estate Winery Balnarring Gym Heritage Tavern

Netball Preview

Bendigo Community Bank Nepean Netball Preview – Semi Finals

Semi Final 1 Somerville v Frankston Bombers 2017: Rd11 – Somerville 60 Def Frankston Bombers 29

Semi Final 2 Crib Point v Tyabb 2017: Rd1 – Crib Point 47 Def Tyabb 18 Last time these two sides met was 18 round ago, in the Grand Final rematch and once again Crib Point took the honours again. It is hard to say that the Yabbies will let that happen again. Tyabb have been on a mission in the last month with some great wins including over Somerville and Red Hill. Crib Point have also had a solid lead up to the finals with the Magpies defeating Rosebud, Red Hill and last week Somerville.

After sitting on top for most of the year Somerville in the last two weeks have lost two games to both Crib Point and Tyabb, and also slid down to third on the ladder and could face elimination of the final race altogether if they can’t get over Frankston. The last time these two met the Eagles won convincingly over the Bombshells by 31 goals. Frankston were lucky to sneak back into the top 4 by on game. The Bombshells run into finals probably hasn’t been idea playing Sorrento, Rye, Pearcedale and winning whilst dropping a game to Devon Meadows in their as well. Somerville will be disappointed that they have lost their last two and will be looking to make amends today, and should win to take on either Crib Point or Tyabb next week.

It should be a block buster game, the team who gets the week off will enjoy the chance to refresh before the Grand Final while the loser will have a tough run if they are going to claim the 2017 title.

Netball Notes

Bendigo Community Bank

Sorrento Sharks A huge congratulations to Nova Riordan and Anna Croad who both played 100 games of netball last week, what a huge achievement for our club. We want to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved at the netball club this season, from our committee members, friends, family, players and supporters. You’re ongoing support means the world to us. We would also like to thank all of our wonderful sponsors both new and old who helped shape our 2017 season. What a great effort from the girls both on and off the court and we can’t wait to see what 2018 has in store for us. Another huge congratulations to our u17s team who have qualified for the finals and will be versing Dromana this weekend. And here’s a word from our u17s coach... This week we verse one of our toughest rivals. Having lost to Dromana by only one goal last time we met, the girls are more determined than ever to come away with the win they deserve. Our focus will be to remain composed and consistent throughout all 4 quarters. We know that when on top of our game we are capable of beating this team. Being the only Sorrento team tok make finals, we want to represent what our club is capable of. We hope to see our supporters make the trip to Tyabb. GO SHARKS!

A grade needed to win this week to keep a final spot alive but in playing Tyabb this was never going to be easy . With our injury list growing the job became tougher . Our girls were relentless & never gave up . The points went to Tyabb but Redhill A grade should be proud of their season . Our U/17s have made the finals , an awesome effort . Let’s support our girls over the finals series. Go Redhill ...

Dromana Tigers The last game of the season saw an overall positive result for the girls, with 3 out of 5 wins against Rye (A,B and C grades). Award winners for the day were; U/17s - Rivvy Walter and Shaye Fitzpatrick D Grade - Olivia Geurts and Olivia Henderson C Grade - Elise Keane and Brodie Bond B Grade - Channelle Jenkins and Eliza Pittard A Grade - Rivvy Walter and Laura Hopkins It has been a season of highs and lows, however we were beyond thrilled to be able to enter 5 teams in the competition for the first time ever. Further development of such a great group of girls will undoubtedly set us up for a strong 2018 as culture and commitment of the squad has improved out of sight. Our 2017 season however is not yet completely over, with our talented U/17s starting their finals campaign. We are confident the girls can go all the way and look forward to supporting them over the coming weeks! Let’s hope the Coach can get through the game without going into Labour….. GO TIGERS!!!

Rye Demons

Red Hill Hills

The D grade girls played a great game with Bella and Zoe strong in the goal ring. Liv had a great game in the centre court and created many turnovers. Laila played a great game in the defence! We were strong throughout the whole game. It was a terrific game to watch coming home with a win for our last game for the season . The C grade girls played a great game with Abbie and Millie strong in the goal ring. Chloe M had a great game in the centre court and created many turnovers. Chloe RH played a great game in the defence! Well done to all the girls this season , it was awesome to win this game & finish strong . B grade battled all day with Tyabb , a credit to all the girls . Even though we haven’t made the finals this year we have certainly given all the opposing teams a shake up . With the end result of this game being a draw . Next year hopefully with the depth our club now has we will achieve better results .

Well the last games of the home and away season are done and dusted! We finished off the season playing Dromana and came away with two wins out of five. Under 17s had a great win beating Dromana by 3 goals. The girls played extremely well, but unfortunately we just missed out on finals, finishing 5th. Best on was Emily Harris. D grade had another fantastic win beating Dromana by 34 goals. The girls finished 2nd on the ladder and are looking forward to playing finals. Best on was Shannon Christodoulou. C Grade went down by 15 goals to a strong Dromana side, with Sam Harris again getting best on. B grade had a hard game, but couldn’t match the strong Dromana team. Best on was Ingrid Trivet. A Grade fought hard against a physical Dromana. The girls didn’t give up, but ended up losing be 11 goals. Best on court was Taylah Turner. We wish our D grade girls the best of luck in their first final today. We believe in you, so go get em! Go Dees!

Netball Notes

Bendigo Community Bank Devon Meadows Panthers

D grade started off slowly on Saturday but as the game went on the intensity and fight lifted and they came through with a good win!! Everyone played their role and did what was asked of them. The girls really came together and supported each other and if they can keep up this standard of Netball will have a great chance in finals!! BOC kylie C grade finished off the season the best way possible! With a scary injury before game day to a goaler, the girls adjusted under the guidance of a couple of strong players in attack. At quarter time the girls began the lead against Hastings. The defenders brought the ball down the court with speed and the goalers showed dominant body work following a high shooting percentage. At three quarter time, the goal of the game was to finish strong to begin meeting finals standards. Coming away with a good percentage win, the girls are pumped for finals. Big thanks to coach Tanie for stepping in! BOC Jenelle. The B grade girls warmed up well and played a ripper first 3 quarters and the score was fairly even heading into the last. Unfortunately we couldn’t convert our opportunities and Hastings could. The girls should however be proud of their efforts for the season and in particular the last half, we took a while to settle and find our groove and for us to realise our potential as a team. No finals for us this season so we look keenly to a big pre season and getting ready for a massive 2018. Good luck to the C & D girls!!!! GO PANTHERS!!

Tyabb Yabbies

Somerville Eagles The weather gods were not at all kind to us last weekend, with it raining through most of the D and C games! The D girls showed how far they have come since the start of the season irrespective of the game’s outcome. The girls were backing each other up, chasing loose balls and providing leads to the ball. You girls should be so proud at your improvements as a team. The C girls finished their season strong with a 9 goal win, showing why they are top of the table. Their combinations worked perfectly and they gave 100% for the whole game. What they have achieved as a team this season has been nothing short of outstanding. Even though the B girls finished the season top of the ladder, they had their first loss of the season and couldn’t match the intensity of the Crib Point team. They didn’t execute their usual solid, strong and clean netball. They will be working super hard at training this week to improve on what went wrong. Expect them to come out firing this weekend. The A girls also had a loss against a strong Crib Point line up. They had a slow first quarter and allowed Crib Point some easy pick offs down the court. There were some good passages of play and were times when we had them rattled. This weekend we have 3 teams fighting for a spot in the next final. The C and B girls will be playing off for a ticket straight into the grand final and the A girls fighting it out for a chance to play in the semi-finals. Well done to all the girls on their season! GO EAGLES!!!!

In the last round of the season we headed to the Alpaca Shed to take on the Hill-ladies. Half of D Grade took advantage of the blizzard-like conditions & headed off to the snow but fortunately Em Q & Georgia W came out of retirement to help out. Week in week out Amy works tirelessly through the midcourt with this being no exception. Claire was able to adjust to her new goaling partnership, shooting with great accuracy under enormous pressure. C Grade had plenty of opportunities but were not able to capitalise when it mattered. Lace’s rebounding was exceptional & Jayde was a dominant force through the midcourt. B Grade had a point to prove after their poor performance the week before but may need to do that this week as they were only able to come out with a draw. The tall Red Hill defenders caused havoc for our goalers who struggled to put shots up under the pressure. Rhi was outstanding in defence, turning more and more ball over as the game progressed. It was a very disappointing result due to the opportunities we didn’t take advantage of. The A Grade match was of very high quality with a fantastic display of athletic & competitive talent. Tyabb were able to take control in the second quarter with brilliant movement & goaling by Kiz. Today we welcome all clubs to The Pond for a cracking day of netball. Good luck to our A & B Grade squads. A Grade, playing in their 8th finals appearance, have the benefit of the second chance but it’s a must win for our B Grade. NIP! NIP!

Crib Point Magpies Our last game of the home and away season and it’s against our old rivalry Somerville. The day started wet and miserable but we were happy with the results. D grade had their last game of the season and played their hearts out! Feeding down the court was excellent and words cannot be put on how much these girls have improved this year but their 8 goal win over Sommie will do. BOC went to Christie who’s passes and feeding was amazing. With their captain/goaler out the challenge was set very high. The wet conditions did not help and the girls gave it their all and won the second half however their very accurate goaler was hard to beat and the girls went down. BOC went to Ange for another ripper game! B grade walked out on court to redeem themselves after losing by 30 goals last time these two teams met and boy oh boy did they. 4 down at quarter time, 2 down at half, 1 up at 3 qrt and won by 6! The girls had a great positive attitude out there and converted on so many turnovers leaving one very happy coach heading into finals! BOC went to Dobbo who played her best game ever! A grade restored their place as top team beating Sommie by 20 goals! The girls had a great first half setting them up for the rest of the game and showed with their amazing defense why they are top! BOC went to none other than Adrienne who rallied all day! This week A, B and C all begin their finals campaign, lets gather round them with Crib Point support! Go Crib!

Pearcedale Panthers

And so we reach that time of the year... the sun starts to sneak its way between clouds, the morning mist clears a little earlier and finals fever hits the peninsula! For the first time ever at Pearcedale, we are wrapped to announce that 3 out of our 5 grades have made the finals for 2017 and every girl in every side has their eyes on that Premiership cup. Starting with our 17’s, these girls have had a ripper season notching up only 1 loss for the year and finishing top of the table. Their talent all over the court is remarkable, accuracy & movement in the goaling end down to tight defence putting pressure on every ball. With a strong midcourt that just goes & goes & goes, these girls are going to be tough to beat!

30

D Grade have impressively battled injury after injury to make their way through the season and claim 3rd place on the finals ladder. Reeling after a loss to Frankston last week, these girls will be looking to give themselves another chance to play them in the upcoming weeks, All that stands in their way: Devon Meadows D Grade. This will be an epic battle and one that neither team will lose without a fight- Go get ‘em girls! C Grade have overcome all obstacles to claim a finals spot in a closely competed competition. It came down to the final game last week- a do or die match vs. Frankston, with a win sending them to finals and a loss sending them home. In the dying minutes they took the game by 1 goal. Amazing! Good luck to all our teams this week!

Frankston Bombshells What a year to look back on: For all those one percenters we chase down on the court To those disappointing days we fell agonisingly short To those narrow wins, frustrating losses that controversial draw Oh wait can we say that? Im sure its still quite raw… To our delightful D grade that only lost two games! To our daring C grade trying to lay down their claims My beautiful B grade who I couldn’t love any more And our finals playing A grade who we cannot ignore! We’ve had our moments of exasperation and certainly some trying days But we are more than netball in so many different ways This is the club you go to when you want more than just exercise We will have your back even with your guilty alibies We will bend over backwards for every team mate that’s down And pick you up when you feel like you’re going to drown Life isn’t easy and unfortunately there are times its painfully hard But Thursday nights and Saturdays are certainly our trump card And now we get a chance to spend a couple of bonus weeks together And get around each other in whatever sort of weather Because rain, hail or shine let’s take it to Tyabb, Devon and Rye And prolong as much as we can that time where we have to say goodbye! Go Bombshells!
