What a first week we had for finals, while mother nature may have not been on our side, it still produced to some interesting results for both football and netball. Well done to all sides who were victorious on the weekend and will continue the dream of winning the premiership, and commiserations to all sides that weren’t as successful on the weekend, to those that have a second chance we hope that you are able to capitalise on it, and to those that the curtain has closed on 2017, we hope you can go that one step further in 2018. We’re very excited to see the club reinstated into the VFL and look forward to cheering them on in the 2018 VFL season. Bendigo Community Bank HERALD SUN SHIELD HEATS UP The 2017 Herald Sun Shield school football competition is heating up, following a host of competitive Grand Final matches this month. Expanding the senior student program to include two male and female intermediate competitions this season, the annual Herald Sun Shield event has seen the best Victorian secondary school footballers go head to head in venues across the state for the coveted title. In the Division 1 Senior Boys Grand Final, St Bernard’s College Essendon broke through to win their third Herald Sun Shield title after defeating St Patrick’s College Ballarat by 16 points at Simonds Stadium. In wet and windy conditions, there was only one point in it at three-quarter time in a low-scoring affair before two final-quarter goals from St Bernard’s captain and Calder Cannons player Jake Riccardi put the game beyond doubt. The final score was 6.9 (45) to 4.5 (29). The win secured a third Herald Sun Shield for St Bernard’s, and their first triumph in the Grand Final since 2003 to also go alongside their 1991 victory.

In the Division 2 Senior competitions, Hallam Secondary College claimed the Senior Girls flag after defeating Loyola College by 73 points at RAMS Arena, while the Senior Boys Grand Final will be held on September 14. In other results, four schools have etched their name in the history books after claiming the inaugural Herald Sun Shield Intermediate premierships. Played as a triple header at Victoria Park it was Ballarat’s Loreto College who took home the silverware in the Division 1 Girls Intermediate competition after a comprehensive win over Bentleigh. Padua College secured the inaugural Division 2 Intermediate Girls title with a solid victory over Mt Lilydale, Werribee’s MacKillop College got the job done over a spirited Kardinia outfit in the Division 2 Boys, while Xavier College claimed a close victory over St Joseph’s to win the Division 1 Boys flag. It was a different story for Ballarat in the Division 1 Senior Girls Grand Final, with Ballarat Grammar securing backto-back titles after a solid 23-point win over Melbourne Girls Grammar at the MCG. Played as a curtain-raiser to the Round 19 AFL clash between Adelaide and Collingwood, Ballarat jumped out of the blocks early to establish a 15-point lead at the main break. Despite a spirited third term from Melbourne Girls Grammar, Ballarat’s defensive pressure halted the attack to help them run home as premiers. The final score was 4.8 (32) to 1.3 (9). The win sees Ballarat Grammar become the most successful Division 1 Senior Girls team in the history of the competition, taking its Herald Sun Shield tally to three premierships – ahead of Hallam College on two.

Football Preview Battle of the titans By Toe Punt

The winner of the Second Semi Final today between Sorrento and Rosebud will earn entry directly into the 2017 Nepean Division Grand Final. The speculation coming into this match is huge and it all centres around Collingwood premiership player Chris Dawes – after 10 weeks on the sidelines, will he play? The news early in the week was that he would play today, while Zac Byrns, who has also been out for a while, will also come into the team. The most important in for Sorrento is Chad Harris. All are integral players, at their best! Question is, after such a long layoff for Dawes and Byrns, will they be ready to go and will they be able to sustain four tough quarters of footy? I’m guessing Rosebud coach Adrian McBean would be pretty happy to see both ‘underdone’ players running around this afternoon. However, one thing I’ve learned quickly about McBean is that he doesn’t worry too much about what the other team is doing. McBean has every right to have faith and confidence in his game plan and for his team to execute it – it’s worked to date and the Buds have been the only team to knock over Sorrento.

I said after the round 18 game between the sides that Rosebud uncovered a soft underbelly at Sorrento. The arguing and finger-pointing was back after it had been non-existent for the previous 18 months. Some cracks started to appear in the Sharks, especially defensively and some individuals were exposed. Jake Corrin is the only worry for the Buds with an ankle but he said after the game he should be right. Sorrento has been the best side in the competition this season but the Buds are seasoned and confident. I made the mistake last week of choosing attack against defence and I won’t make the same mistake again. The Buds jumped out of the blocks and booted seven goals in one of the best quarters we have witnessed for the season. When Sorrento booted five goals to one in the second quarter and entered the major interval with a sevenpoint buffer, it appeared that the Buds had fired all of their shots and simply needed to hang on. Not only did the Buds hang-on, they went on to win the match, 13.11.89 to 13.7.85. In was an enthralling last quarter after just one point separated the sides at three quarter time. The Buds needed to get some things right and Jackson McRae coming into the side and playing a key defensive role on Nick Corp was a massive influence on the final result. Midfielders in Sean Downie, Fletcher Hustwaite and Brenton Payne were able to hit the scoreboard on multiple occasions and Matt Baker joined Keegan Downie once again in attack and they booted two goals each. Seb Krumeich and Bart Wallace did outstanding jobs defensively too while Ben Dwyer was masterful in the ruck. Leigh Poholke booted four goals for the Sharks to win yet another league goalkicking award, while Leigh Treeby and Marcus Gardner booted three majors each. First Semi Final Frankston has had the better of Hastings on two occasions this season but that will matter little today when they go head-to-head in a do-or-die final. The Bombers looked fantastic when they had the breeze at their back last week but as soon as they had to work harder the opposite way, they were left wanting. The Bombers also seemed to panic again when the opposition came at them, which is always going to happen in a final and more players need to show leadership on the field to stop this from happening.

Generally, discipline was a concern for the Bombers – the free kick count against was poor and they need to get better at that. There are some players in the Frankston side that under the watchful eyes of the umpires and those players (they know who they are), don’t need to give them any additional reason to pay free kicks against them. Hastings are disciplined – they worry about what they can do to help their team win the game. The Blues were far too good against Red Hill last week and once again they loom as a smokey. No doubt that Frankston will have in the back of their minds the crusade of the Blues last season. The Bombers have the list, although Beau Muston is unlikely to play with a hamstring. Alex Harnett though will probably come back in after being 23rd man for Richmond last week. Sam Fox had a bad cork but should play. The Blues will probably be without Mark Deveraux, who has been suffering from illness, while Brendan Dunne, Luke Hewitt and Josh Mulheron are missing through injury. The Blues have belief in their structure though and its served them very well, especially in the past five weeks against quality opposition. Frankston needs to attack from the outset and keep on attacking. It needs to play its best backs on the best forwards The Devon Meadows ground will suit the Blues but Frankston should win. Football Preview Last time they met Hastings conceded the first four goals against Frankston Bombers in Round 14, trailed by 24 points at quarter time and lost by four points, 8.12.60 to 8.16.64. If not for a dip in concentration for five minutes in the last quarter, Hastings would have won. The Blues booted the last three goals of the game after the Bombers kicked clear with a blistering five minutes of footy early in the last. The Bombers were pretty much at full strength while the Blues went in without Brendan Dunne, Lance Brouwer, Terry Green, Luke Smith and Luke Hewitt. Corey Buchan and Ryan Marks-Logan were the difference between the sides for the Bombers, along with Alex Harnett through the middle. Shaun Foster and Matt Clifford were outstanding for the Blues and Steven Robb played one of his best games for the season.

Sorrento Sharks

As they say in the classics, a week is a long time in football. The disappointment of round 18 was quickly erased after 2 super efforts by the unders and the scoobs in week 1 of the finals. Last Saturday the Scoobs played a great game of football and got the result we all wanted. To get the campaign off to a positive start was a great relief for all involved, especially coach Phillips who is running out of hair to pull out. The 19’s then won a thriller on Sunday in a classic come from behind victory. The last time these 2 sides met the final margin was a point, this time it was the same but fortunately for us, this time it was in our favour. This brings us to this weekend, with all teams involved. It’s a rematch of round 18 for the Scoobs and seniors, both teams know doubt keen to make up for what was a disappointing effort in the last round. We know what it takes, let’s be sure to bring the attitude and effort from the first bounce. We’ve been waiting for this time of the year for a while now, the hunger and passion should be alive and well. To the unders who will play Frankston on Sunday, the desire and commitment is there and the belief is growing by the week. That feeling you had after the final siren last week is infectious, surely you want it again. Good luck in all grades, we know you’ll do us proud. Rosebud Buds

Spring is here so are the finals and our Club is right in the thick of it with both our Senior and Development teams featuring in the second semi-final. Last week the Seniors defeated the highly credential Bombers who threw everything at our boys but our persistence, relentless pressure and tackling and the willingness to work together to win the contested ball was impressive and made the difference. Despite a slow start Adrian conveyed his calm confidence with the boys and backed in their ability to apply our trademarks. Jacko again provided the inspiration for the team defence. Around the stoppages and across the ground Sean, Big Time and Matt were winners and Jake’s tackling was relentless. The Club held its vote count and we congratulate our 2017 Best & Fairest recipients – Millie McDermott (A grade), Jess Smith (B grade), Ash Farrelly (C grade), Hollie Dunstan (U17), Greg Bentley (Seniors), Scott Sterling (Development) and Aaron Colombo (U19s). Today the Development Team get their first opportunity to put their stamp on the finals after a near faultless season and together with the Seniors they will both need to bring their A-game if they hope to get the job done today. Crib Point Magpies The under 19’s played in an elimination final this week after failing to secure a top 3 finish. In wet and windy conditions the Magpies showed that they had come to play. The pies managed to hold a lead over the sharks for the majority of the day but they unfortunately weren’t able to pull away at any stage. The sharks hit back in the last quarter and kicked a few goals to hit the front very late in the game. The end of the game saw the Sharks walk away with the narrowest of wins, 1 solitary point. An impressive season for the unders came to an abrupt end and they are left licking their wounds. Great efforts throughout the year by the unders team and let’s hope they can all make it back next year to bring the club forward. Get around the netballers that are still playing finals! GO CRIB!

Hastings Blues Another Elimination Final and another great win for the Senior team. In showery windy conditions the Senior team recorded a very strong win against the Red Hill team, though the day did not get off to a great start with Luke Clarke having to pull out through illness 30 minutes before the start of the game, so the selectors had to grab Ritchie Vandenham who was playing a good game in the Reserves, and put him in the senior team having already played 3/4 in the reserves final. It was a great performance from the senior team who just won every 1/4 with great team work, and great pressure on the opposition, it is a great credit to Brendan Dunne and his coaching staff, as a lot has not gone the senior teams way in recent weeks, but the way the players have responded to the coach is fantastic, well done. The reserves battled well against Frankston in their Elimination final, they went in very undermanned due to a lot of injurys, but with 5 boys coming in from the under 19.s who all acquitted themselves well, all the players had a crack and certainly gave their all, but just came up short, but great effort from the players who will get great experience from playing in a final. Frankston today in a first semi final, if we perform like we did last week I think we will get the chocolates. Bendigo Community Bank Red Hill Hillmen

A mixed bag of results last weekend, with the U 19’s producing a solid four quarters against the Bombers who never stopped persisting all day. Big challenge today against The Eagles, who we beat twice during the season. But this counts for zero when the neutral ground and a week’s rest is factored in to the equation. Josh’s boys came up against a well credentialed and experienced side who put them to the sword early, but to their great credit they finished brightly with a five goal final quarter. The Bombers lie in waiting at Devon Meadows for a crack at the prelim. Take no prisoners today. Our U 17 girls netball play early at the same venue for a chance to play a Grand Final next week at Tyabb. Good luck girls, and well done to all our other teams who contributed enormously to the overall football/netball trophy which we have won for the second year in a row! Our senior side were not quite up to the task against last year’s premiers who caught us on the hop in the first quarter. The rest of the game was pretty much goal for goal, but we never seemed able to bridge the gap. Well done on reaching another finals campaign, and I’m sure everyone in the club extends to Blackers and the coaching panel sincere thanks for your untiring efforts to ensure we produced our best. Greetings to the Bomber family as we converge on the Meadows to support all 3 of our footy sides in finals action. Our Reserves shot the lights out of last weeks game with a great elimination final win to earn a game today. Flippa was a trump with 3 while Deano, Frenchy & big Adam all played top games for the mighty Red & Black. Our Firsts & Thirds worked hard during the home & away season to earn the the double chance and today we enjoy its benefits. The young Bombers has a good crack in their first game for 3 weeks & will be better for the run. Koby & Kobe put their hands up, Joey was great @ half back, we loved his brave marking, & Jets is getting back to his best. Cracking game in the ones where we came up a little short, the good news is that we have significant improvement on that performance. Sutts was in everything, Chappy scorched up his wing & our man with the tash and Hawks beanie worked hard in the clinches. All roads lead to Mornington Racecourse on Friday 22nd September for the Bombers Presentation Night. The sun seems to have an added glow about it. And any sign of cloud coverage, let alone torrential rain, has disappeared in the blink of an eye. Somehow, someway it always happens like that. No matter how extreme the winter is everything comes together the minute that finals feeling rolls around. You gave your promise to me, and I gave mine to you…I need someone beside me…in everything I do…oh yes I do But with that comes the beauty of the football itself. There’s nothing quite like finals footy. That thing you spend all year working so hard towards. And for some it’s not just the past year. Sometimes it’s the culmination of many years of hard slog at the lower end of the pecking order. You know I love you…I always will…My mind’s made up by the way that I feel…There’s no beginning…There’ll be no end…cause on my love you can depend... The Future Is Here… The future can look like many things depending on which way it’s assessed. The future can be nerving, exciting, undefined and downright scary all at the same time. That’s a serious emotional wave there. Regularly we consider the future to be exactly there…in the future. Something that we think about but never really consider approaching. Yet the future isn’t just where we think it to be. It’s actually here. Right here, right now. The next word of this article that you read is actually in the future from the word you’re reading now. All of a sudden those nerving, exciting, scary feelings that the future causes are on top of you. That’s right…the future is here…the future is now. And that’s exactly what presents the SUA and the whole footballing community on the Peninsula this weekend.

The young stars of the future will strut their stuff this weekend in an exciting finale of games down at Hastings on Sunday. This season has been an absolute blast in the juniors with many new and enthusiastic faces taking up the challenge of learning and developing their whistle blowing and decision making in MPJFL footy. And credit must go to their application as many have also made the step into the senior ranks. With the changing of the guard in the senior ranks the sniffs of opportunity were too hard to ignore. However, the enthusiasm surrounding the SUA junior program would not be possible with the unwavering commitment from second year Junior Coordinator Scott Gathercole and the Rye Football Club. Scott came in with experience in coaching Auskick down the Peninsula and his ability to get the best out of our young future stars has been evident. The relationship developed with the Rye Football Club has enabled the SUA to set up a junior base at Rye to further expand our demographic. And while we regularly get caught up in the competitive wave of footy it is always nice to step back and see the lighter more sentimental side. Season 2016 has seen 3 fatherson combinations take the whistle and no doubt it won’t be long until young son is teaching dad a few little tricks to keep his aging body ticking along. So get down to Hastings this Sunday and catch a glimpse of the next wave of whistle blowing stars and Scotty and his team close the curtains and celebrate a wonderful 2017 junior season. U17 Grade: Red Hill v Dromana Last time they met: Round 15 - Red Hill 28 Drew Dromana 28 Both sides had a 9-goal margin last weekend, just so happens that one was 9 goals down and the other 9 goals up. Red Hill will be sorry after their loss to Pearcedale and will be looking to correct last week with win over Dromana. Last time these two met it played out in a draw, but one thing is for sure that there will be no draws this time around. Red Hill had 2 byes before coming into the first week of the finals whereas Dromana have played the last 3 weeks. On that, Dromana will get up as they have had more time to gel over the past few weeks.

Round 1 was the last time these two sides crossed paths, so it’s almost like for both sides they will be unknown to each other. Tyabb had small 3 goal win over Frankston while Cribby is coming off a 13 goal loss to Somerville. It’s a hard game to pick on who will come out on top to take on Somerville in the Grand Final next week, but the side who If you’re settles first will probably come away with the win.going to have a few drinks,

Dromana Tigers

In rain, wind and hail, the Dromana U/17s took on Sorrento in their first final of the season. It was a hard fought contest, with the girls going into the quarter break even on the scoreboard. Some inability to convert turnovers and rushed passages of play, saw us go into half time 4 goals down. The girls regrouped and had a very impressive second half of netball. We used the ball more efficiently, converted our turnovers and worked admirably as a team. This momentum saw us win the second half 20-7 and ultimately take the game by 9 goals. It was a full team effort with every girl playing her part, however our defensive combination on Eliza Pittard and Tahlia Walter was absolutely dominant keeping Sorrento’s last quarter score to just 1 goal. The girls look forward to taking this momentum into our next final against Red Hill in the hopes of continuing our finals campaign! Go Tigers!

Devon Meadows Panthers

It was great to see so many supporters at tyabb on Saturday to back our d and c grade teams!! The d grade girls got off to a bit of a slow start and were down 4 goals during the first quarter. As their nerves settled and ball began to flow down the court they managed to catch up to pearcedale and by the end of the game it was goal for goal. The final whistle went and it was even so we headed back out for another 10 minutes (5 each end). The girls fought until the very last second of the game and with a long bomb goal at the very end by kylie the girls came through with a win by 1 goal!!!! Stoked with the effort and teamwork displayed this week, the girls will be smashing training in preparation for a huge HOME game against rye!!! With 1 win up our sleeves we prepared for another big game c grade where once again we played pearcedale!! The girls came out fighting right from the first whistle! With great defensive pressure the girls continued to get turnovers and work the ball back down to the attack. The movement in the ring between the shooters was fantastic and after a close game we came away with another win!! The panther girls are geared up and ready to go, working towards another win and a position in the grand final!!!! GOOOO PANTHERS!!!

Tyabb Yabbies

In the first round of finals we were proud to have 2 squads representing the Yabbies! It had been many rounds since B Grade had taken on the Bombers but given the many years of finals history against Frankston we knew only our best would do. Rhi & Ky were able to shut down their goalers early on & caused many turnovers giving the Yabbies a head start at 1/4 time. Unfortunately Lenny went off injured but Nat was able to step up to the task in her best game of the season. Fton edged their way back into the match in the third quarter but the defensive effort from Tay kept us ahead. When the pressure really started to build in the last it was T who stood tall & composed in defence. Today the girls take on Crib who they haven’t played since round 1. A strong whole team effort is going to be required. A Grade took on rivals Crib in a repeat of last year’s grand final. It was a close & fiercely contested opening quarter with our defenders able to turn plenty of ball over. Crib started to take some control of the match in the 2nd through their quick transitional play. Chlo came on in the 3rd and was able to offer fresh legs in attack but it appeared Crib’s defensive awareness was improving. Just when the score line had the potential to blow out the girls were able to open the space in attack with some strong drives from Kell. Despite going down by 9, there is plenty of room for improvement which they’ll hopefully get the chance to prove after taking on Somie today. NIP! NIP!

Sorrento Sharks

In weather fit for ducks the Sharks u17s girls battled it out against Dromana Tigers. The first half of the game was tight and tough with scores even at half time. The hail and rain came down in third quarter and the strong defence hands of the Tigers came into play. It was a great game of netball to watch and all the girls are very proud of their effort. Congratulations to dromana for their win and best of luck to all teams next week. Best players were Gemma Grant and Grace Vaughan well done girls!

Last Sunday we had 2 out of 3 teams head straight into the grand final! This week we hope one more joins them! C grade had a big fight ahead of them against Somerville; a team they hadn’t beaten during the season yet and with a few broken bones throughout the team it was going to require everything they had! They were down by 6 during the second quarter and the rain came and went throughout the game but the girls stayed steady. A very strong second half with a full team effort got the girls over the line winning by 3. A few mix up of positions saw Bree go into WD and killed it while Rach was strong in GS! B grade had the challenge of backing up last week’s win against Somerville with another win to put them into the grannie however that was not the case. Somerville came out firing and our girls played catch up all day. Today they take on Tyabb and these two teams haven’t played since round 1. It’ll be a great match and whichever team wants it more will go on! Let’s gather round our girls as they give it their all! It was a grand final repeat for the 2nd semi final with Crib versing Tyabb and besides from the first few minutes in the first and the last few minutes during the last quarter our girls were in control all game playing very calm and composed. Defenders were creating turnovers all day and the goalers were on point as they heading straight into the grannie with a 9 goal win! Hoping for 3 out of 3 in the grand final! Go Crib!

Redhill U/17s had a dynamic game last week going up against the unbeaten top team Pearcedale. The game was tough & exciting with the 1st half goal for goal . As the 2nd half evolved Pearcedale gained a little momentum to take off & win the game . Our girls played extremely well with some great passages of play . Let’s get through this week against Dromana & be back for the grand final . Go Redhill ......

Rye Demons Today our Rye girls will play for a chance in the D grade Grand final. For most of the girls, last week was their first final in senior netball. They played hard in really tough conditions, but couldn’t get the scores on the board. Best on court was Emily Harris. Today will be a different story! They have trained hard and will bring everything thing they have to the game. Good luck girls, we believe in you, so let’s go get em! Go Demons!

Somerville Eagles Last weekend we were lucky enough to have 3 teams play for spots in the coming finals. The C girls finished top of the ladder and were up against a tough Cribby side. The weather was not kind during the game, it was windy and very wet! It was close the whole game, there were some great passages of play and plenty of hands over pressure. Unfortunately Cribby got the better of us and we ended up with a close loss. Luckily for the girls, they get the second chance and will coming out firing today! The B girls also finished top of the table and after their only loss of the season last round, were determined to show Cribby why they were on top. The goalers worked well together and the defenders got plenty of tips and intercepts. The mid court fed the ball well into the circle, it was a fantastic team effort. The girls came away with the win and a ticket straight into the grand final (woohoo!). The A girls came out firing against the Bombshells and came away with a good win, they worked hard and capitalised on the turnovers. They will be training hard this week so that they are ready to take on a tough Tyabb side today. Well done to all all 3 teams, it is such a great achievement making finals. We are looking to come away with 2 more wins today to make it a trifecta for Somerville in the grand final. GO EAGLES!!!!

Stingrays Top Notch Stingrays secure third, slaying Dragons. A full team effort lead superbly by Hunter Clark inspired the Stingrays who will enter the finals in third position in a bid to snap an agonising 25-year premiership drought for the Dandenong boys. Clark, whose rise in the past few months has been eye catching collected 29 disposals (13 contested) and seven inside-50s kicking two goals in his latest best-on-ground display. He’s effortlessly has shifted roles from a gliding half back blank, to a tough inside midfield who seems to really love the contested and combative change. Clark’s capped crusader partner in crime Luke DaviesUniacke (LDU) played a perfect support role with 21 disposals, with 11 handball receives (15 uncontested) and 1 goal. LDU continued to show the footy world his silky skills and cat like movements with speed can never be contained for too long. He battled the day out going head to head with fellow school companion Charlie Constable, taking the honours on the day. Craig Black’s Stingrays were ravenous early on Saturday morning adapting to the tricky windy conditions and breaking away in the second term to gain the early scoreboard pressure advantage, before a blistering Dragons onslaught in the third term saw the game evenly poised going into the final quarter. A loss would have dropped the Stingrays to sixth, but the 11.15 (81) to 10.12 (72) triumph over the Dragons at the Trevor Barker Reserve instead locked up third spot where they will face another mighty hurdle when they face the Eastern Rangers in two weeks’ time. “I’m really proud. It was a tough game against the Dragons, who were aiming to snatch third spot for the finals,” Stingrays coach Craig Black said. “It was always going to be a tough game which was always going to go down to the final few kicks, and I thought the boys handled themselves really well. We started well, which was pleasing. “We’ve still got some areas of our game that are a little bit frustrating at times, but some of that was due to the Dragons’ good play as well.” Black finished by saying, “In the past, we would have earned the double chance, but under the new structure all TAC Cup final games this year are all knock out games, so we’ve treated round 17 and 18 like mini finals as the teams we’re facing are top four teams.” The day didn’t go all the Stingrays way with Sandringham six-goal-to-two third quarter had cut the Stingrays’ lead to 4 points at the last break, after it had reached 29 at the long break. Dandenong’s pressure was immense in the opening stages, repeatedly forcing the rattled Dragons sideways and backwards. It mattered little that Sandringham had many more disposals, including the contested variety. Both sides found the wind tricky, with many wasted shots on goal saw a low score line of 2.5 to 1.4 in favour of the Stingrays at the end of the first quarter.

Bendigo Community Bank The ¼ break came at the right time for the Stingrays with the coach’s working hard on some structural tweaks and reinforce the style of play needed to slay the dragons. After trading a few points each, Luke Davies-Uniacke stamped his brilliance upon the game splitting the middle after some strong contested work higher up the ground, which opened the floodgates for the Stingrays who kicked the next 3 goals in a five minute dominance of the Dragons (through Bailey Williams, Riley Bowman and Aiden Bonar) before the Dragons clamped down to stop the onslaught. More goals came over the middle part of the quarter through Clark and Jai Nanscawen before two late goals in the final part of the quarter to the Dragons gave them a little bit of hope as they margin ballooned out to 56-27 at the long break. The third saw the completed opposite with the Dragons going on the rampage kicking the first four goals, with the first coming in the first 30 seconds of the game. Mitch Riordan took the game on and kicked truly to steady the ship before another two goals in a row to the Dragons saw them take the lead for the first time before and late settler to Nanscawen to see the Stingrays hold a four-point lead at the final break (69-65) The last quarter was a tough and pressure from both sides unrelenting and when the Stingrays needed their better players to stand up and they did. Bailey Morrish and Mason deWit took it upon themselves to stand and deliver, with Hunter Clark delivering the final blow kicking a front and centre goal to extend the margin to 13 points at the 8-minute mark. The Dragons struck back a few minutes later to get back within 7 points but after both defences became stingy with Stingrays Dual Captains Oscar Clavarino and Joshua Bateman leading superbly, flawlessly supported by Tom Freeman, William Hamill and the ever-steadfast Jesse Davies repealed entry after entry denying the Dragons. The siren sounded with a pumped Stingrays outfit lifting the roof off the change rooms with the Stingrays song, before retreating the Sandy beach for rehab for readiness for round 18. This week, another massive task lies ahead as for the Stingrays with their final game in the home and away season against the TAC Cup ladder leaders the Geelong Falcons. The game is being played on Sunday 3rd September at Victoria Park, Collingwood starting at 11.45am followed by the Gippsland Power versus Murray Bushrangers game at 2.15pm. DRAWN FINALS NO FINALS WILL BE REPLAYED, IN CASE OF A DRAW IN ANY FINALS GAMES, EXTRA TIME WILL BE PLAYED. In the event of scores being level at the elapsed time, the timekeepers are instructed to sound the siren. The field umpire shall then: •

Direct the goal umpires to consult with each other as to the correct score. Teams are required to stay on the ground until goal umpires confirm scores correct.

•

On receiving confirmation that the scores are level instruct both captains that the match shall re-commence with the teams kicking to the same end as in the final quarter and that two five minute periods (with time on) shall be played with teams exchanging ends after the first five minute period immediately after the siren sounds.

•

Consult both captains as to their readiness to recommence the match.

•

Hold the ball aloft to indicate to timekeepers that the match is about to recommence.

•

The Timekeeper shall then sound the siren and the match will recommence.

•

In the event of scores being level after two five minute periods, a further two five minute periods (with time on) shall be played with clubs exchanging ends after the first five minute period.

This process shall continue until there is a result. Coaches are not permitted to address players at any stage after the three-quarter time interval.
