AFL South East Last weekend provided one clear message to all involved in football and netball across the entire AFL South East Region. And that is - Community Sport is very much alive and well. All six leagues in AFL South East - FDJFL, MPNFL Div 1 and 2, SEFNL, SEJ and SEWF - competed in finals last weekend, with large crowds, eager participants, and a band of hardworking volunteers creating a wonderful atmosphere across all 12 venues. Take for example Saturday at Hastings. Senior football finals were played on one ground, women’s football on the other, and netball finals as well. It was a real family atmosphere with everyone enjoying themselves. That vibrancy and excitement will no doubt be transferred to Holm Park Reserve in Beaconsfield this Saturday when grand finals are played across three divisions of South Eastern Women’s Football (SEWF), complementing a great day of second semi-final action in the SEFNL. Junior grand finals were also run successfully last week, with games played at Langwarrin, Pakenham, Barry Simon Reserve and Clyde. We were also very fortunate to showcase the best junior boys and girls talent at premium venues such as Casey Fields and Frankston Park, both of which were in very good condition. This week, as the show rolls on, we get our first glimpse of senior grand final action. As mentioned earlier, the SEWF competition comes to an exciting conclusion and I would like to pass on my best wishes to Bass Coast, Eastern Devils, Hastings, Pearcedale, Seaford and Tyabb for their respective contests on Saturday. Likewise we hand out premiership cups in netball in MPNFL Division Two, with Crib Point and Karingal set for a great showdown in the A Grade competition. Crib Point has won the last two grand finals, Karingal has lost the last three, so we can expect a great contest at Somerville at 1.45pm on Saturday. To Crib Point, Dromana, Hastings, Karingal, Pearcedale and Somerville – good luck for your endeavours on the netball courts today. Awards Nights also continue this week with a joint presentation to be held at the Mornington Racecourse for the MPNFL and SEWF competitions on Monday September 3. The SEFNL Awards Night will be held at the Cranbourne Turf Club on Monday September 10. I ask everyone who attends this finals series, the coaches, officials, players and spectators, to keep one thing at the forefront of their mind while at the finals. Respect the game - this is sport - this is fun! The expectation is that the game is treated in a respectful manner both inside and outside the fence. Players should always play by the rules and support and encourage their teammates.
To the umpires who have been selected to officiate in these big games, congratulations on your appointments and we wish you well. Football and netball are two difficult games to officiate. Split-second decisions are made and we implore the sporting community as a whole to respect the umpire’s decision at all times. To our major partners, thank you for your ongoing support across all six of our leagues. Your support makes the competition what it is today. Please take a close look at the Partners spread across our hard copy and digital records, and websites, and please support them as they have supported our great games. We are also excited to be working closely with GameFace during this year’s finals series, bringing a greater user experience to our regular printed record. Game reviews and previews, club notes and welcome messages will all be available on video, complementing our hard-copy editions. Download the GameFace App, or go to www.aflserecord. com.au to see digital content for the FDJFL, SEJ and SEWF finals series. John Anderson Region General Manager AFL South East

AFL Vic Country The Herald Shield Heats Up The 2018 Herald Sun Shield school football competition is heating up, following a host of competitive Grand Final matches last month. Held annually, the Herald Sun Shield event sees the best Victorian senior and intermediate school footballers go head-to-head for the coveted title in venues across the state. In the Division 1 Senior Boys Grand Final, St. Bernard’s College Essendon were crowned champions after claiming a 31-point win over St. Patrick’s at the MCG.
In other results, Warrnambool’s Emmanuel College, Melbourne Grammar and Ivanhoe College were crowned champions in their respective intermediate Grand Finals following a triple-header at Ballarat’s MARS Stadium. Ivanhoe secured its first Herald Sun intermediate shield after a comprehensive win over Luther College in the Division 2 Intermediate Girls competition, Emmanuel College overcame a strong St. Francis Xavier outfit to sew up the Division 2 Boys silverware, while Melbourne Grammar got the job done over a spirited Parade College Division 1 Boys title.
In a rematch of the 2017 decider, it was St. Bernard’s who took control of the match from the outset, booting seven goals to one at the main break.
The Herald Sun Shield competition will continue this month, when the Division 2 Senior Boys Grand Final will be played on September 13 while the Division 2 Senior Girls decider will be held on September 19.
Despite St. Patrick’s efforts in the second half, inaccuracy in front of goal plagued the boys from Ballarat, eventually going down 10.10 (70) to 5.9 (39).
For full results from the 2018 Herald Sun Shield, visit aflvic.com.au
The win sees St. Bernard’s claim back-to-back titles and its fourth shield overall since the competition was established in 1977. In the Division 1 Senior Girls decider, Hallam Secondary College has become one of the most successful schools in the competition after defeating reigning premiers Ballarat Grammar. Played at Geelong’s GMHBA Stadium, Hallam shot out of the blocks early, to establish a solid 22-point lead at half time. Despite a spirited second half from Ballarat Grammar, Hallam’s defensive pressure halted the attack to help them run home as premiers. The final score was 4.5 (29) to 2.3 (15).
Hallam Secondary College defeated reigning champions Ballarat Grammar in the Division One Senior Girls Herald Shield.
Having secured consecutive titles in the inaugural year of the competition in 2012 and 2013, Hallam’s win now sees them tie with Ballarat Grammar as the best school in the competition with three premierships apiece. In the Intermediate competitions, it was Geelong’s Sacred Heart College who secured their first title over Ballarat Grammar by eight points.

Drawn Finals
No finals in the MPNFL will be replayed. In the case of a draw, extra time will be played. If scores are level at the completion of the fourth quarter the field umpires shall direct the goal umpires to confirm the correct score. • Coaches are not permitted to address their players between the end of the fourth quarter and the start of extra time, nor between any periods of extra time. • Once scores are confirmed the ball shall be returned to the centre of the ground and the game will continue for two five-minute halves (with time on). • Each team shall kick in the same direction as they did in the fourth quarter for the first half of extra time. Teams will change ends for the second half of extra time. • If scores remain level after two five-minute periods, a further two five-minute periods (with time on) will be played with clubs changing ends after the first fiveminute period. • This process will continue until there is a result.
Netball In the event of a draw in a final, at the end of the game when scores are tied there is a two (2) minute break during which time there may be substitution and/or team changes. • At the end of the two (2) minute break, there shall be a further 2 x 5 minute halves played for 15 minute games and 2 x 3 minute halves for 12 minute games. Footy Preview - Division 1 Tipsters
There’s a whole lot of shakin’ going on
By David Nagel Mornington’s Alexandra Park will be rocked to its core on Sunday when an in-form Pines hunts a direct passage through to the MPNFL Division One grand final against minor premiers Sorrento. It’s a second semi-final showdown that would appear to have all the ingredients of a classic, with Paddy Swayn and his fired-up Pythons taking on the class and composure of the Sharks. The Pythons were devastating against Mt Eliza on this same patch of turf last week, running riot in the second term with a long and direct game style that clearly rattled the number two ranked team in the competition. But now can they do it against the best? Reigning league best and fairest winner Paul Scanlon was unstoppable against the Redlegs, thoroughly enjoying the tight and confined spaces that Alexandra Park can deliver. The Hendry boys, Beau and Guy, provided the spark, while Aaron Edwards kicked six, and the physical presence of Nick Boswell and Tim Bongetti seemed to unsettle the Redlegs at times. And Ben Thomas, Daniel John and Jacob Boyle kept the dangerous Mt Eliza attack under wraps. Sorrento comes in refreshed, but fully aware of what’s about to hit them come the first bounce on Sunday. The Pythons play a physical brand of football that James and Mitch Hallahan, Luke Tapscott, Ryan Williams - and Daniel Grant, Nick Marston and James Brigden in defence - will need to be wary of come 2pm on Sunday. Weather that early storm, and the Sharks are well on the way to success. What a mouth-watering prospect we have at Chelsea on Saturday when Mt Eliza take on a resurgent Frankston YCW in a cut-throat first semi-final. We’ve been waiting all year for the Stonecats to flex their muscles, and it all came to fruition in a brilliant last-quarter display against Edi-Asp last week. A Sam Monaghan goal at the end of the third term made life difficult for the Stonecats, who trailed by 20 points at three quarter time. But a long bomb from the boundary from Paul Minchington sparked the champs into action. Hayden Raphael dribbled one through and two more to Minchington brought the Stonecats to level pegging. A brilliant goal from a stoppage to Jacob Cheverly gave Wayne Capp and his boys some real belief going forward. The champs were never going to disappear without a fight! The Redlegs were comprehensively outplayed by Pines last week, conceding seven goals in a non-competitive second quarter. Mason Dewit played his part, and Jordan Moncrieff, Blaine Coates and Jordan Capkin had their moments, but the Redlegs will file that one in the ‘bad day‘ category. The problem is – they now can’t afford another one! For a full preview of both finals, download the GameFace App or go to www.aflserecord.com.au and follow the prompts.

Netball Preview - Division 1 Eagles and Tigers to get the claws out By David Nagel Edithvale-Aspendale will need to dig deep and produce one of the biggest efforts in the history of this wonderful netball club if it is to take out this year’s MPNFL Division One crown. The four-time reigning champion lost the second semifinal to Sorrento last week, setting up a heavyweight contest against Seaford in Sunday’s preliminary final at Mornington. The equation is now simple for Claire Houben and her Eagles – defeat two high-class and quality opponents to take a rare place in MPNFL sporting history. Last week’s contest against Sorrento was a real arm wrestle from the beginning. Both teams applied tremendous defensive pressure in the early stages, making it very difficult for the opposition to complete a full clear passage of play. In one of the lowest scoring quarters of the year the Sharks led 7-5 at quarter time. Neither team could gain any clear advantage through the middle stages of the match, with both teams scoring 12 goals in the second quarter and 11 in the third. It gave the Sharks a crucial two-goal buffer heading into the final term, which they increased to a 41-36 victory at the final whistle. Both teams will go in confident of success in their next match, the Sharks in the grand final and the Eagles this weekend against the Tigers. The quality on display was quite impressive, with both teams sticking to their starting seven for nearly the full duration of the match. Sorrento’s midcourt was led wonderfully well by former Australian star Shelley O’Donnell (C), who had Hannah Mundy (WA) and Briana O’Hehir (WD) by her side, while Alana Schaeche, Maddi Graham and Dom Taylor took care of the goal-scoring duties. And Kate Youlten (GK) and Bec Kelly (GD) were absolute rocks in defence. The Eagles were certainly not disgraced and will throw a mountain of challenges at Seaford. Christina Vickery (C) went head-to-head with O’Donnell and could hold her head high, while Brianna Hollis (WA) and Caris MacInnes (WD) gave able support through the mid-section of the court. Anne Leeds (GK) and Michelle Sanders (GD) were effective down back, while Emily Patterson (GS) and Alex Ball (GA) faced a tough task against a strong Sorrento defence. And it won’t get any easier today – because Seaford is also very strong in that area of the court. Tracey Dell (GK) and Kara Hargrave (GD) have been a deadly duo for years – not in this competition mind you – having led Narre Warren to back-to-back success in the SEFNL competition.
22
They know how to get it done – but will rely heavily on the midcourt pressure to ease the burden and pressure on Sunday. That’s where players like Alesina Toleafoa (WD), Rachel Cosans (C) and Tayla Robertson (WA) fit in, applying pressure on the Eagles that they hope will break them down. And Ash Mitchener (GS) and Nichelle Liepa (GA) will need to make the most of very single opportunity when the ball in hand. Before we move on to our tip for this week, we should really dip our lids to Rosebud who gave the Tigers a massive scare in last week’s first semi-final at Mornington. The Buds were clearly the better team in the first quarter, skipping out to a five-goal lead after a stunning early burst. The Tigers reined them in, but the Buds can be fully satisfied that they gave everything they had on the biggest stage they have performed on in quite some time. To Emma White, Nicole Hadgkiss, Nicole Chianta, Lauren Robinson, Sally Hunter, Millie McDermott, Courtney McLennan, and Beth Leach, congratulations on a wonderful season and a great effort against the Tigers last week. Now for the tip! Can Seaford really end this remarkable run of the Eagles, or will Houben and her champion team rise to the occasion once again and tick the next box on their way to a fifthconsecutive premiership? It’s going to be tight, it’s going to be tough, it’s going to be one of the best games we’ve seen for the season. It’s the Eagles to keep their incredible dream alive – with Patterson to break a deadlock in the dying seconds.
Anne Leeds will play an important role for Edi-Asp in the preliminary final, trying to stop the goal-scoring power of Seaford pair Ash Mitchener and Nichelle Liepa.

A Slice of MPNFL History A first date for the Tigers and Kangaroos By Doug Dyall This season is throwing up a lot of firsts and this week we have another new adventure in the Division Two Preliminary Final with Dromana up against Langwarrin. It will be the first time that these two old clubs have ever met in a final. Considering Dromana was an original club back in 1908 and Langwarrin first come on the scene in 1920 - before going into recess but returning in 1956 – that’s a remarkable statistic. Dromana, the favourite for the flag since early in the season, has got to get over the Langwarrin train that has peaked at the right time. Looking back Dromana has six premierships, 1931 in PDFA, 1937 in MPFL B Grade, 1940 in MPFL B Grade, 1950 in MPFL B Grade, 1971 in Nepean League and in recent times the 2013 MPNFL Nepean premiership. For Langwarrin, its flags have come in 1930 in PDFA, 1969 in Nepean League, 1993 in MPNFL Division Two, 2002 in MPNFL Nepean and in 2005 in MPNFL Nepean. Sitting in wait is Red Hill ready to add a second premiership to its 1990 success. In Division One we have another contest that has never happened in finals football before with Sorrento meeting Pines for the first time. In fact this is the first season since 1985 that the two teams have played against one another. At the end of today’s second semi-final only one side will have the bragging rights. I’m tipping this one will be a cracker.
In the first semi-final, Mt Eliza against YCW, there is much more history in finals action. YCW has the upper hand, six wins to two in their eight encounters since first crossing paths in 1991. That day in the MPNFL Division One Preliminary Final, YCW 16.16.112 defeated Mt Eliza 9.8.62, with champion forward Richard Whitfield booting eight goals. Other clashes to have come in recent years include the 2005 Grand Final when Mt Eliza 27.17.179 had 13 goal kickers on its way to a 132-point victory. In the 2009 MPNFL Peninsula Qualifying Final YCW 13.12.90 defeated Mt Eliza 6.13.49. In the 2012 the teams met in the second semi-final with Mt Eliza 19.22.136 defeating the Stonecats 12.6.78 before YCW revenged that loss with a 12.6.78 to 9.14.68 victory in the grand final. Then in the 2015 second semi-final YCW again won 11.13.79 to 8.9.57 and repeated the dose in the grand final, winning 18.7.115 to 17.8.110. Anthony Bruhn kicked eight for the Stonecats with Justin Van Unen hot on his heels with seven for the Redlegs. The last finals meeting was in 2016 when YCW again won 10.9.69 to Mt Eliza 7.5.47 with Bruhn again the key with five majors.
Richard Whitfield booted eight goals for YCW in the club’s first final against the Redlegs.
Mt Eliza celebrates a 132-point victory over YCW in the 2005 grand final. www.aflsoutheast.com.au

Footy Preview - Division 2 Tipsters
Pressure build on the Tigers By David Nagel It’s the most precarious place to be in finals football – the dominant team of the season facing a straight sets elimination square in the face. It’s the scenario facing Dromana today as the Tigers look to avoid becoming the most dreaded of football statistics when they take on a surging Langwarrin in the MPNFL Division Two preliminary final at Somerville. Football seasons are a bit like the fickle Melbourne weather – or better still being the Prime Minister of Australia – geez they change in a hurry! Don’t be fooled by the narrow nature of the 14-point loss to Red Hill in the second semi-final last week, the Tigers were comprehensively outplayed, and if not for some inaccurate kicking by the Hillmen would have faced a much larger deficit at the final siren. Some of the Tigers’ spark players appeared to run out of flint, and will need to reignite this afternoon or that ultimate humiliation could be on the cards. That’s the negative – but the positives still abound heading into the big clash against the Kangas. They may have been lucky to stay in touch but the Tigers dug deep last week and nearly stole a game they shouldn’t have won through sheer guts and determination. Players were down and their opposition was playing close to their best football – but the Tiges were still in it deep into the final term. Sam Geurts, Terry Wheeler and Billy Quigley just refused to give in, while Zac Muschialli repelled many a forward thrust. And the biggest positive – the Tigers have been the best team all year and that ability just doesn’t disappear overnight. Langwarrin, well they’re enjoying a magic-carpet ride that nobody really saw coming. The Kangaroos were still searching for a finals berth just three weeks ago, but wins over Chelsea and Karingal have them poised for the biggest game in their recent history. Their 1, 2, 3 midfield combination of Michael Parker, Zach Andrewartha and Blake Peach is winning plenty of the footy, with ruckman Matt Naughton providing some great impetus in the ruck. Mitch Cuthbert, Shane Paterson and Blake Harkness have been rock-solid performers for the Kangas, and their 23rd player – belief – is getting stronger and stronger as each final goes by. The start is absolutely critical for the Kangaroos today. Stick with the Tigers early and apply scoreboard pressure and the ‘what ifs’ will start to kick in. It’s the perfect set up for what should be a cracking cutthroat eliminator. For the first time this season the Tigers are not the numberone contender – but they’ll advance to the big dance with a 25-point victory. Netball Grand Final Preview - Division 2 Which fairy tale will become a reality? By David Nagel Magpies and Bulls very rarely appear in fairy tales – but a magical story is about to unfold when Crib Point and Karingal put it all on the line in the MPNFL Division Two Grand Final at Somerville. The storylines here are intense. The Magpies are looking for their third-consecutive Nepean/Division Two premiership – against the Bullettes who are looking to break a heartbreaking run of three grand final losses in Peninsula/Division One. And every one of those heart breakers has come at the hands of MPNFL powerhouse Edi-Asp. “It’s probably good for the club that we face a different opposition because some of those losses to Edi-Asp have been very close and they can stay with you,” said first-year Karingal coach Jess Whitfort. “Edi-Asp were a great team and so is Crib Point, they’re going for three in a row so there’s a couple of fairy tales there waiting to happen. Crib Point is a hard and tough team, very defensive and will make us pay if we don’t do most things right. “We have to be clear and concise with our preliminary movements and make the most of opportunities.” Whitfort, a 2013 premiership player with Mt Eliza, fully understands the significance of this game to her new club. “The history of the club was explained quite early in the piece so there was some pressure to fit in with such a great program,” she said. “It’s such a strong program, but I’ve just tried to put my own stamp on things and give some clear direction to the players. We’ve had a lot of movement between teams, but the focus is clear and we understand what we want to be known for.” The Bullettes will understandably be desperate for success, with players like Renee Brewster, Mardi Cunningham and Courtney Osborne forming the backbone of the squad over the last three years. “They’ve been great stalwarts of the club and the new players have taken the time to understand and appreciate the time and effort that those players have put in,” Whitfort said. “We will use those players as motivation, but at the same time we have to keep a lid on things, stay calm and focus on the process and hopefully things fall our way.” Whitfort has brought a fresh new look to the table with Abuk Kenyang, Amelia Haugen, Madi Capsalis and Isabella Riddell adding a touch of class that could make all the difference. And the Bullettes are hitting their straps at precisely the right time of year. “We’ve been building, with girls coming in and out of the side all year, but we’re all together now and starting to play some of our best netball of the season,” Whitfort said.
42
“We’ve sort of been plodding away, with plenty of things to work on, but we qualified for finals and have had two good wins since we made it. There’s a great buzz around the club, with four senior teams in the grand final so hopefully we can bring a flag or two back to the club.” It definitely won’t be easy because the Magpies are a super outfit, well drilled and totally prepared for the biggest game of the season. They move into rarefied air if successful against the Bullettes. Dionne Douglas, Kellie Davidson and Lily Cook are the keys to the Pies through the midcourt, while Tessa Moncrieff and Adrienne Harris give nothing away in defence. And Shaye Williams and Ebony McDermott- well a steady hand comes in very useful in the ultimate pressure situation. Whitfort just can’t wait for Saturday to roll around. “It’s been a special year all round, everyone has been super supportive, but it’s hard to explain the feeling of winning a grand final.” Whitfort said. “There’s nothing quite like it, and I just hope the girls finally get rewarded for all the hard work and time and effort they have put in to this campaign. “But, win, lose or draw, we know we couldn’t have done anything more or have been more prepared for the day.” Sorry Bullettes, there will be only one fairy tale this time around – it’s the Magpies to go back-to-back-to-back with a thrilling two-goal victory.
After losing three consecutive grand finals Karingal captain Renee Brewster will be desperate to hold aloft the premiership cup.

Presidents Message Crib Point
Watching our A grade women win through to their third straight grand final imparted a huge sense of pride for the club. It is an enormous effort and indicates the level of commitment to those who oversee the program. The girls finished second but bought the intensity and awareness to win through to the big dance - again. Congratulations again to Laura Herrington and Fi White who’s foresight and dedication ensure the continued smooth running of the netball program. The culture of growth, learning and positiveness flows down from A grade coach Adrienne Harris to all our grades quest for self-improvement. To all our coaches; Adrienne/Laura, Lily, Amie and Amy, a big thank you. To all our girls in every grade (C grade making the first week of finals) a huge congratulations and thanks also. We are only as strong at the top due to our great depth and those pushing up into the higher grades. Your continued support and enthusiasm is critical to our success as a whole club. Finally, appreciation to everyone who has taken their turns at set up, scoring, umpiring and the myriad of other activities to make it all work. Without all these singular contributions we would not be where we are today with one of the most successful netball programs on the peninsula. Go Crib. Let’s do it again.
Karingal
What an incredible season we have had down at the Bullpit! Such a big year with moving into our new rooms, to appointing a new Head Coach, welcoming new players, friends and their families. I could not be happier with how this season has panned out, it has been a magnificent year. We entered the season excited for the unknown, with the newly structured competition which meant we were able to add in U17’s and our new Head coach Jess Whitfort. We knew it was going to be a challenge trying to get our bearings and pick up where we left off last year. The girls worked hard this season, with Jess introducing a whole new structure of game plans, training, skills and support which the players have really benefited from - the proof being our four grand final spots! Thank you to everyone who has helped this year, whether it be scoring (Dotti Mace and Amanda Frey thank you!) packing up after games, carrying around equipment, running to get ice for injuries etc etc…we could not get it all done without the support of volunteers and I am forever grateful. Thank you to Renee Brewster who has captained A, been an assistant coach to Jess and has helped me throughout this whole season. Big thanks to our netball sponsor “The Loan Machine” appreciate your support throughout the season!!
44
All the best for this special day Bullettes. You’ve all worked incredibly hard to get here and deserve to take out the first prize. On behalf of the whole club, good luck and we could not be any prouder. You are all an amazing bunch of women and I feel incredibly blessed to be a part of today. Congratulations Jess and Bullettes, what a day to be a Bull !!!! Jade Cahill - Karingal Netball President GO BULLETTES!!!!
Somerville
The season commenced for Somerville FNC with selections back in early January. With a few girls deciding against pulling on the A-Line again in 2018, we welcomed eight new girls to the club (Emily Kemp, Penny McFall, Bec Laffy, Nicole Castles, Rachael Hall, Christie Hall, Julia Mugavin and Emily Williams). The teams were locked in early and the girls battled through one of the coldest and wettest seasons in memory! Unfortunately the squad was hit hard with injuries throughout 2018, no more than the A team, losing four players to season ending injuries (Emma Calendar – ACL, Alice – Back, Tayla – Achilles and Maria – ACL). The injuries also filtered down the other teams, Elisha Page (ACL), Christie Hall (Achilles), Courtney Gilmour (Broken Arm) plus Lisa Oakes who withdrew after round six with a baby on the way!! By the end of Round 18, the club was wrapped to have two teams in the final four and into finals. Without wanting to make it easy on themselves, both teams lost their first final and had to take advantage of their second chance to get another shot in the big dance! Somerville FNC are hosting the netball grand finals this year and the club would love nothing more than to win a flag or two on home soil. We wish the players, coaches and supporters of the B and D Grade teams all the best today. Go Eagles! Kristy Marshall - Netball Manager
Dromana
Congratulations to our C Grade Netball team on making the 2018 Grand Final after finishing undefeated in the Home and Away Season. They are our first Netball side to ever play off in a Grand Final and we hope that their coach Matt Ingram is feeling justifiably proud of his charges as they overcame the previous week’s loss and held their nerve during extra time in the preliminary final to bring home the win much to the delight of the assembled Dromana players and supporters. Over the last few years Netball has progressed and grown at our club with many players now coming out of the Junior ranks as our junior Football Club also began to field Netball teams and provide a learning base for young netballers who are playing throughout the Senior squads. Hopefully, in conjunction with the Mornington Peninsula Shire, we
www.aflsoutheast.com.au
Presidents Message can see Netball courts and facilities established at our Pier Street oval in the not too distant future which will further lift the identity of Netball within our local community. Netball has done our club proud this season with four of our five sides playing finals and I know that the Board is very pleased with the improvement shown in 2018. On Saturday I am sure that the Senior Footballers will be there to cheer you on as will many of our volunteers and supporters. GO TIGERS!!! Chris Strange President - Dromana Football & Netball Club
Pearcedale
What an absolute roller coaster of a year we have had, not only down at Pearcedale, but in the league all round! A tough year for our seniors had us questioning where the future of our club was heading but from the ashes our young 17s have risen strong. These girls have absolutely carried the beacon for us this year and have made us all proud with their integrity, courage and resilience. Amazing friends on and off the court, I can honestly say that these girls have given us hope for a brighter and stronger club of the future. To everyone that helped this year- whether you chipped in and helped score a game, packed up after a home game or just clapped along after a goal on the sidelines- we thank and appreciate from the bottom of our heart. To the coaches, mums, dads, supporters, sponsors and team managers who have supported us all along the way, I think I can say with confidence that for you, these girls wont rest until that flag is sitting up on the wall in the clubrooms! Congratulations also to the Hastings FNC- such a fantastic achievement to come so far and our girls have nothing but respect for you all no matter the final score. Best of luck to all teams in the finals and for our junior Pink Panthers – “LET’S BRING HOME THAT FLAG!” Kind Regards Emily Hansford - PFNC- Pink Panthers
Hastings
What an amazing season it has been for our amazing under 17 girls - our very first under 17 team and they have made it to the grand final. We cannot thank their coach Taylah enough for her dedication to the girls, making them believe reaching a grand final was possible. To the nine girls we are so proud of every one of you, the way you have conducted yourselves though out the season, committed to training and worked tirelessly to achieve the ultimate goal of winning a premiership is something the club as a whole is incredibly proud of. To Hayley who generously gave up her time to assist Taylah, you are such an asset to our club and we thank you so much. All the parents have been a great addition to our club, their sense of fun and willingness to help out around the club has been a highlight of the year. Kerry Struthers thank you for volunteering to be our under 17 team manager for the season, we all knew our under 17’s were in great hands with you scoring. As I arrived at the netball courts early every Saturday morning throughout the season, watching you all warming up for your match, wearing the royal blue dress, it gave me, and I know our club so much joy to know you are the future of our club. The whole club wishes you all the best today, whatever the outcome we are truly so proud of you! Karen Gay- HFNC President

Netball Grand Final A busy day for the Bullettes and Eagles Premierships go up for grabs in B, C, D and 17 Under grades on Saturday. Karingal and Somerville have a busy day ahead, with the Bullettes taking on the Eagles in B and D Grade, with the Bullettes also taking on Dromana in C Grade.
And Pearcedale should get the win in the 17-under game against Hastings. Coach Jess Rollins has a very strong squad of players with Tahlia Coates, Molli Hooper and Alannah Quint set for big games against the Blues. Tips in Bold
The B Grade game should be an absolute beauty, with the Bullettes and Eagles both winning premierships in the respective B Grade competitions last year.
B Grade
Karingal v Somerville
C Grade
Karingal v Dromana
Somerville narrowly finished on top but were rolled 3633 by Karingal in the second semi-final.
17 Under Pearcedale v Hastings
D Grade Karingal v Somerville
The Eagles bounced back against Dromana last week and co-captains Kate Forsyth and Emily Williams will be expecting big things today. It’s the Eagles to go back-to-back in a two-goal thriller. Karingal lost last year’s C Grade grand final by one goal and captain Tayla Sutton will be keen to reverse that result against Dromana today. Sara Burke and Jess Fletcher are key players for the Bullettes, who will win by two goals today to dull the pain of last year’s defeat. In D Grade, expect nothing but a tight contest when the Karingal and Somerville continue their epic battles this year. Karingal won the second semi-final by a goal and they will get home by a similar margin today.
