AFL South East While most MPNFL Division 1 Clubs have a week off, the one game that remains holds a great deal of significance. Much has been made this year of the new divisional structure within the MPNFL. For the most part the feedback received has been very positive. We are only in year one so no definitive conclusions can be drawn in such a short time. However, in its infancy we have seen some excellent matches across two divisions. Highly competitive, close matches, with several teams still able to make finals in Division 1. One of the most endearing aspects of divisional football, together with the promotion/relegation system is that, generally, right to the very end every game has some importance. In any previous season this week’s Division 1 game would just be a clash between the bottom two teams on the ladder. This week however there is much at stake. The match between Seaford and Rosebud is what is commonly referred to as an “eight-pointer”. A loss for Seaford would almost certainly consign them to Division 2, being eight points behind Mornington and 10 behind Rosebud. A win by Seaford would see them come within two points of Rosebud and a live chance of avoiding the drop. While on the subject of promotion/relegation, I saw firsthand the benefits of what going down a division can have on resurrecting a club. As a guest at last week’s Chelsea

pre-match luncheon prior to its game against Rye, I was witness to a Club which is rejuvenating itself. This has come primarily on the back of establishing a “winning culture” which in turn encourages sponsorship, increased attendance and an encouraging atmosphere about the place. Chelsea is a club which has been nearer the bottom of the ladder for some years, but with their strong win over Rye they are firmly entrenched in the top three. Before the game, President Michael Davis addressed the players and announced that coach James Brain has been appointed coach for 2019, which is a sign of the confidence currently being shown at Chelsea. During the game I had the pleasure of talking to Rye legend Mick O’Rourke. It was great to see him gradually improving after a knee replacement and all the associated problems that went with it. We watched on as a young Zac Jennings took the field in the second quarter, and Mick recounted that Zac was now a fourth generation of Jennings’ to take the field for the Rye seniors, the first being Clarrie Jennings way back in 1946. Since 1946 Zac has had Great grandparents, grandparents, parents (and many other relatives) pull on the Rye guernsey as he did for the first time last Saturday. Dave Nagel has uncovered the full story on the Jennings dynasty and has a full account later in the record on page 27. A tough game for Rye this week at Karingal, another team which has prospered under the divisional model. Rye, along with Langwarrin and Somerville, are in must win games this weekend if they are to challenge Hastings for fifth spot. And while Dromana still sit clearly on top, Red Hill has come from the clouds, having won six games in a row since going down by a point at Karingal in round-7. Among the many variables, a Dromana v Red Hill Grand Final is one of the several possibilities. What a mouthwatering prospect after what I saw at the Red Hill Recreation Reserve only a few weeks back. Finally, a comment on last weeks piece re the treatment of umpires. Thank you to all those who registered their support for the sentiment expressed. It was very pleasing to see the volume of interaction on social media in support of umpires, particularly the younger ones starting out in the game. This is an ongoing challenge and we will continue to campaign for better behaviour toward umpires.

AFL Vic Country Country boys come out on top Players from AFL South East have helped the 2018 AFL Victoria Community Cup return to regional Victoria after WorkSafe AFL Vic Country defeated Vic Metro by 25-points at MARS Stadium on Sunday. In-form Frankston Bombers star Sam Fox was named second best for the Country lads, while Frankston YCW’s Lachie Wallace joined Fox in kicking a goal apiece to help bury the city slickers on a cold and blustery day in Ballarat. Vic Country won the toss and kicked with the wind in the first quarter and, after a tough start, capitalised on the scoreboard. Vic Metro’s defence held up boldly for the first 15 minutes but the pressure from Country eventually broke through as they managed to kick four goals in the final 10 minutes of the term to take a 39-13 lead into the opening break. The second term was a different story as Metro settled and turned the game into a tug-o-war. The teams could not be split as they went goal for goal and finished with two goals apiece for the quarter with Metro producing some brilliant finishes. Rowville’s Jackson McDonald slotted a goal on the run from 45 metres out while Dingley’s Lucas Walmsley slammed home a much-needed set shot from right on 50 to cut Country’s lead to 24-points at the half. Country kicked two goals in the opening seven minutes of the third term to almost put the game out of reach, but Metro hung tough and responded with two goals of their own. Caroline Springs’ Rex Hickman slotted a set shot from 30 metres to trim the margin back to four goals, but a late goal to Country off the boot of Steve Stroobants (Rochester) left Metro with an almost impossible task in the fourth. A Shannon Beks (South Warrnambool) set shot early in the fourth term put Country in front by 33 points, a margin that would seem unreachable in the slippery conditions. Metro kept fighting, with goals from Lucas Walmsley, Jayden Kroussoratis (Norwood) and Jhye Baddeley-Kelly (North Heidelberg) bringing Metro within 18 points with 15 minutes to play.

Despite Metro’s efforts, it was not to be as Sandhurst’s Andrew Collins held his nerve to kick his second goal to put the result beyond doubt in the final minutes. Vic Country holding on to secure its first win under new coach Danny Frawley, the final score 12.17.89 to 9.10.64. It was a different story for Energy Safe Vic Country in the Under 19 Challenge Cup after they were defeated by VAFA by 23-points. Despite a second half surge from the country side, the forward pressure from VAFA was simply too great to withstand. VAFA claiming the 2018 AFL Victoria Under 19 Challenge Cup 9.13 (67) to 5.14 (44).

Tigers backs against the wall By David Nagel Seaford will draw on the spirit of one of the greatest eras in its long and proud history today when its battle for survival gets serious against Rosebud at Belvedere Reserve. Members of the all-conquering 2008 premiership side – the middle of three flags on the trot – will be in attendance as the Tigers look to keep their much-coveted Division One status alive. Those players were the envy of Peninsula football back then, defeating YCW in 2007 and Edithvale-Aspendale in consecutive title deciders to rubber stamp their claims at greatness. But it’s a whole new ball-game for the Tigers these days. They haven’t played finals since losing the elimination final to Bonbeach in 2012, finishing ninth, eighth and ninth from 2013 to ’15 before settling for sixth place the last two years. And now they face the very real prospect of becoming the first team relegated in the newly-formed one-up-onedown divisional structure. The Tigers’ one-and-only win for the season came against Pines all the way back in round one. Since then they have had a draw with today’s opponent Rosebud, and received a further two points after an early finished was called to their game against Frankston YCW. It leaves them precariously placed as they head into the standalone contest against the Buds today. If they lose this they’re basically gone, with heart-and-soul players this year like Zac Vansittart, Matt Gundry, Dylan Howlett, Bryce Lloyd, Matt Terech, Dean Williamson and youngster Ishak Bashir needing to treat this game like a grand final. Rosebud, on the other hand, was the tip of many to boomerang its way back to Division Two after earning promotion to the top flight this year. The Buds have surprised many, with wins against Mornington – and last year’s grand finalists Bonbeach and YCW – leaving them just one step away from survival. The Buds have had a core group of fighters that have just refused to give in, with Tom Stoffels, Rhys Pierce, Bart Wallace, Fletcher Hustwaite, Jake Corrin, Dan Wilson and Seb Krumeich taking to the field for every game this year. The Buds have slipped slightly in recent times, but the incentive to kick clear in the relegation stakes should see them up-and-about for this one. But there’s something about reunions – they tend to bring out the best in a footy club – and Seaford will keep its Division One dreams alive with a dour and gutsy 13-point victory. Seaford coach Ben Murphy will be looking for a special effort from his Tigers against Rosebud today.

Firstly, a warm welcome to the 2008 Premiership players of our Seniors & Reserves side.

For the 2nd week in a row Mother Nature unleashed her winter assault which made it tough going for not only our players, but the loyal band of supporters. The seniors added another of our 1 point brigade to the list, Ed Ellis, who joined the team for the first time as they wrestled in the wintry conditions against the 40 player point Pines and we were defeated by 52 points. Our best 5 players were once again 20-21 yr olds who can seriously hold their heads high. Their dominance is a combination of attitude, commitment, pride and sacrifice which is attributed to the coaching & respect for Adrian. In the development game, some basic skill errors let the opposition capitalise and run away winners by 14 points. Matt Baker’s 19’s kicked off the day again with some of our eager 17’s who are proving they’ll be a force next season when they move up an age group. Unfortunately they went down again, but week in week out they stick together. Today we play in a standalone Div 1 game at Seaford’s temporary location. All other clubs have the bye so hopefully a solid crowd will see us with some resounding wins in both codes. A reminder we have our $5k Key Draw next home game, so purchase your tickets before you miss out. The next function is the Frat Party 28th July, the week after our Bye. Then on the 4th Aug we will hold our final home game luncheon. Good luck to all 7 teams today, participation in team sport is paramount.

Netball Preview - Division 1 Can the Tigers turn it around? By David Nagel

There may be only one game of netball being played in MPNFL Division One today but it should be an absolute beauty with Seaford hosting Rosebud at Linen House. The Tigers were too bad to be true against Edi-Asp last week, losing their first game for the season by a whopping 35 goals in a Thursday-night horror story. The 61-26 loss won’t hurt the Tigers too much, they’re a still a lock to finish top-two and receive a double-chance come finals time, but it was just a shame we didn’t get to see a great contest in the much-anticipated clash between the two best sides in the competition. Even if they weren’t switched on, scoring just two goals in the third quarter and being held to just 26 goals for the match was not what we expected. Expect players like Nichelle Liepa and Rachel Cosans - who both spent plenty of time off the court in the second half last week – to lift the tempo from the early stages against the Buds. And they will need too! Remarkably, in such a competitive league, the Buds have

now won seven games on the trot and built a two-game buffer in fourth spot that should ensure they play finals this year. The task is still enormous, with the Tigers and Edi-Asp set to test the Buds’ credentials to the fullest over their next two games, but their main danger Mornington also has some tough encounters that should keep the Buds in the mix. Goalers Lauren Robinson and Emma White have really enjoyed the midcourt dominance of players like Beth Leach, Millie McDermott and Courtney McLennan, while Nicole Chianta and Nicole Hadgkiss have led a sturdy defence that has not conceded a winning score since Saturday 5 May. It’s a pretty impressive record that will have the Tigers, Eagles and Sorrento looking over their shoulders for the remainder of the season. This one will come down to which Seaford turns up. If the Tigers turn up in the same fashion as last week the Buds will get the points, but that sort of form just doesn’t resonate with the clinical approach that Megan Dell and her girls have shown this year. The Buds are a danger, that’s as clear as day right now, but the full-strength Tigers will lift and build a six-goal advantage by the final whistle.

Another week, another function & this week’s function brought to you by the Seaford Annual Ball. Fake tan Friday’s were in full swing, however, Saturday’s rain almost put the streak free tan in jeopardy as the heavens opened up and let it rip, but alas, this rain was not enough to prevent willy wonka’s employees from making an appearance at the ball. The function was a ripper (as always) & this week we also discovered; - On Seaford Ball Saturday’s we wear black – the LBD was the numero uno fashion item rocking the d-floor - OMG Jennifer Hawkins officially plays netball at SFNC or at least her doppelganger Hayley Dewhurst – what a stunner! - Tanya Mackey’s curling salon is a ripper for those of us who suck at being female & have 0 hair & makeup skills Also we played Edi-asp – surprise, surprise we lost every game. Until next week – GO NETBALL!

Rosebud D grade - Again, great effort playing in wintry conditions. We were with them for all but one quarter so next week we need to execute our game plan for all four quarters. We had a great team play with everyone backing each other up, playing in front of their players, great defence and offensive efforts. Pines brought lots of physicality and strong shooters but that couldn’t beat us today, we really got into their heads and defeated them all over the court. Finally we got another win on the board. Congrats to Ashlee Farrelly and Tracey Snooks for best on. A grade won - Awesome work today girls in extremely tough conditions. South Eastern Women’s Football The party begins at Pakenham The Division One top four all banked four premiership points last week – but it’s fair to say there was a big discrepancy in the way they were cashed in. Eastern Devils and St Kilda Sharks enjoyed walkovers against Endeavour Hills and Gippsland respectively, while Seaford and Cranbourne were forced to pull on the boots to grab their share of the prize. Cranbourne was the most impressive winner of the day, rolling fifth-placed Mornington by 39 points at Alexandra Park. Shani Dixon and Sam Dobson played great games for the Eagles, with Dobson kicking two goals to Taylah O’Hagan as her team’s leading scorer. Megan Cahill kicked two for the Doggies, who showed some character by winning the final term. Seaford was far too good for Chirnside Park, kicking 5.5 to no score after half time to run away with a 47-point win. Kaitlyn Carew bagged two for the winners while Rachel Palmer stuck to her guns for the visitors. And Beaconsfield won the close one of the day, holding off a fast-finishing Port Melbourne at North Port Oval. The Eagles led by 15 points at the final change, before the Borough closed late. Ash Rata and Shelby Walton kicked two each for the winners. The sharp-shooters had a field day in Division Two with Tayla Stahl-Smith booting eight in Bass Coast’s 134-point win over Edi-Asp.

Tess Angarane, Jess Bolding and Kelly O’Neill were also impressive for the Breakers who look to have the Div. 2 premiership at their mercy. Seaford’s Lauren Field kicked three in the Tigers 28-point win over St Kilda, while Shae Dale and Aleesha Brindley booted four each as the Eastern Devils roared to a 79-point victory over Cranbourne. Emily Vitols and Brooke Campbell battled hard for the Eagles. Pakenham partied long into the night after the Lions scored their first-ever win in SEWF Division Three with 14-point victory over Red Hill. The Lions began brilliantly, then weathered a storm from Red Hill before settling to score a memorable win for all involved in the club. Skipper Rachel Betteridge was superb with three goals, while Mimi Henderson showed enormous courage to persist with a damaged shoulder. Megan Witchell was terrific for the Hillmen, who were still in contention until Pakenham’s Chloe Nagel kicked the sealer. Hayley Roberts kicked all five of Pearcedale’s goals in an 11-point win over Crib Point/Cerberus, while Officer banked its third win for the season over Seaford. Logan O’Connell-Webb was terrific for the Kangaroos who are really on the improve. Hastings took top spot away from Mornington with a 36-point victory at Alexandra Park while Frankston Bombers remain in third place after a hard-fought ninepoint victory over Karingal.

Rampant Rays too strong for Falcons The Dandenong Southern Stingrays produced a blistering final term on their way to a spirited 17.13.115 to 5.7.37 win over Geelong Falcons on a wet, windy and slippery day at Shepley Oval last Saturday. The victory cements the Stingrays in top spot on the TAC Cup ladder, whilst sending out the most menacing message yet to the rest of the competition that the Rays are the side to beat this year. What began as a low-scoring slog between two of the better pressure teams in the league was blown apart in the last term when the Rays added six goals to one for stand-in coach Nick Cox. It was a game very much won in defence, with defensive stalwarts Matthew Cumming, Jai Taylor and Matthew Gahan again playing instrumental roles in generating attacks from the back half. Matthew Cottrell and Riley Bowman had a lot of the footy up forward, but the most impressive feature was 17-yearold Jarryd Barker, who slotted two majors, including many unrewardable acts that turned possibilities into sweet six pointers. The slog began much as you would expect on a wet miserable Melbourne day – with plenty of bone-crunching tackles, mountains of pressure and limited scoring. The ball was bouncing between the arcs for nearly 10 minutes before the first major for the quarter coming through a very soft free kick, gifting Bowman one of his four goals of the day. At the first break the Stingrays had managed to keep the Falcons goalless with scores 22-3, the Stingrays extending that margin to 25 points at half time, and to 43 points at the final break. Battling the three-goal breeze the Stingrays stamped their authority on the brave Falcons, with Bowman booting three last-quarter goals, with three more coming through Ned Cahill, Jarrod Smith and Jai Triep whose composure and foot skills across the day were a real highlight. Despite the brilliant win, Cox was careful not to let his charges get ahead of themselves. “It’s probably just another step on the way,” Cox admitted post-match. “But it was still brilliant to see the competitive edge in all of the boys. We were challenged hard in the first quarter, but with a quick reset at the first break the boys took the challenge and you could see they wanted to win.” Cox was also quietly pleased with his team’s stamina to run out the match, despite some ordinary conditions with the centre of Shepley Oval looking more like a skating rink. “We could have easily dropped off, we had a comfortable lead at the last break, but the effort we saw…it was just

really great from a coaching perspective with more than half the team playing less than three games in the TAC Cup,” he said. Talent Manager Mark Wheeler spoke highly of the 17 -year old players who had been given games in the past two rounds. “Those who had the opportunity to play in the past two games, their first in the TAC Cup, showed real poise, confidence and the ability to play the Stingrays style of play, which is the most pleasing thing,” Wheeler said. “You trust the players when you present them with their jumper in February that they have the talent and ability to play in the TAC Cup, but these young men have delivered much more than expected. “I couldn’t be prouder for them and their families, they have started their step towards cementing a spot in the best under-age talent system in Australia.” The Rays will take on the Bendigo Pioneers next week, July 21 at Shepley Oval, after a day off today courtesy of the split round of matches. Multiple medals for MPNFL greats By Doug Dyall The pointy end of the season is fast approaching and clubs and players are eyeing off several prizes on offer the most sort after of all of course is the premiership cup. The other which is far more personal, but still very important, is the League Best and Fairest Award. Looking back over time I was surprised to discover that the award in senior competitions has been handed out on 203 occasions since 1927, when the award was first presented in the Peninsula Football Association. No less than 24 players have won multiple medals, with the best being Robert Stone of Hastings with four medals in 1948, ’50, ’52 and ‘53 in the MPFL, and Peter Doll of Pearcedale, who won three MPNFL Division Two awards in 1997, ‘98 and ‘99 before backing up in the Nepean Division in 2003. Several players have won three best and fairest awards, with Vic Woinarski of Seaford wining in the MPFL in 1951, ‘57 and ‘59, whilst Don Scown of Pearcedale won three consecutive awards in the NFL in 1959, ‘60 and ‘61.

in 2000-01 in Division Three, while Dan O’Loughlin of Pakenham won in 2003 and 2006. O’Loughlin had a remarkable career, winning two other league best and fairest awards in the West Gippsland Football League. Greg Doyle of Rye went back-to-back, winning Peninsula in 2004 and Nepean in 2005, while the late Beau Miller won two awards in 2007 and ’11 while playing for Tooradin in the Casey Cardinia Football League. Chris Irving went back-to-back in 2008-09 in Peninsula, joining Ben Holmes of Rye, 2010-11, joining Shane McDonald of Bonbeach, 2011 and 2016 in Peninsula, as two of the most recent two-time winners. The last back-to-back winner was Beaconsfield’s champion ruckman Scott Meyer in 2013-14. Will this year’s winner be a past winner or will a new star come to the fore on presentation night this year?

Balnarring’s Ray Sweeney triumphed in 1952, ‘53 and ‘54 in MPFL B Grade and Ross Corby won in 1965, ‘66 and ‘71 whilst playing for Sorrento in the MPFL. Dual winners include Arthur Craven of Mornington in 1927-28 in the PFA, Fred Webster of Pines in 1966-67, before Anthony Wearne of Bonbeach in 1970-71 and Doug Maxwell of Crib Point in 1983-85 completed their triumphs in the NFL. Peter Currie won with Mornington/Somerville in 1937, and for Somerville in 1938, both in the MPFL, the same league as Ron Stubbs of Carrum in 1968 and ’74, and Keith Robins, who got the back-to-back double for Edi Asp in 1969-70. In B Grade Colin Wagner of Somerville took out the award in 1948 and 1951. In the modern era, post 1987, 10 others have joined Doll multiple winners. Current MPNFL Commissioner Paul Theobald won for YCW in Division One in 1991 and ‘97, Les Saunders of Red Hill in Division Two in 1989-90, Grant Johnson of Sorrento

Zac makes it a fourth generation of Jennings at Rye By David Nagel

Building a strong culture and tradition is one of the truly great aims of a sporting club – and the Rye Football Club can thank one of its founding members in Clarrie Jennings for building a legacy that still lives strong today. Clarrie played a key role in the establishment of the club in 1946. He was appointed captain-coach in 1947, winning the best and fairest award and leading the club to its first grand final appearance in just its second year of existence. He took on the role for a further three years, with the highlight of his 153-game career coming in 1951 when he scored his second best and fairest award and played in the club’s first ever senior premiership. Clarrie was a man’s man who relished a hard-fought contest, but also enjoyed the comradeship that came with playing football. He finished his playing career in 1956 before taking over the presidency in 1959 – and holding the position for a remarkable 21 years. In 1980 a new pavilion at Rowley Reserve was named in his honour, with Clarrie dying in 1996 with the title of Rye’s ‘Greatest Clubman and Leader’ resting comfortably on his broad shoulders.

And last Saturday against Chelsea his long-lasting legacy continued with his great-grandson Zac making his senior debut for the Demons against the Seagulls. Zac Jennings became the first fourth-generation player to pull on the royal blue and red stripes. “Clarrie Jennings is the icon of this football club, the inspiration behind everything that we do, so it was great to see Zac continue that long-lasting legacy on the weekend,” said current-day president Mick O’Rourke. “We have some very famous names at this football club, some families that have contributed so much over the years, but the Jennings name is right there near the top of the tree.” Clarrie’s son, and Zac’s grandfather Michael, married Marie Egan, with the Egan family also playing a significant role in the club over the years. That great aim of a sporting club, building culture and tradition, the Rye Football Club has that commodity in droves.

Footy Preview - Division 2 Tigers on their own rescue mission By David Nagel Dromana is set to face one of the most difficult challenges of its season when the Tigers travel to Lloyd Park today to take on the home ground advantage of Langwarrin. Okay, the challenge confronting Rikki Johnston and his 22 players is not be as difficult as trying to extract 12 players and a coach from a cave in Thailand – but the task of taking four points away from Lloyd Park is still problematic! There will be no rope systems, air tanks, and the world coming together to help them out – this is going to be a raw test of football for the Tigers on a difficult hunting ground. No-one has defeated the Kangaroos at Lloyd Park this year, and that includes three of the top-four contenders in Karingal, Chelsea and Red Hill. Red Hill came closest in round two – claiming a draw – which is rather ironic really because the challenge confronting the Tigers today is eerily similar to their oneand-only failed mission this year, against the Hillmen at the Showgrounds in round nine. It’s against a desperate opponent who is keen to use a win over the Tigers to make their mark on the competition. The Kangaroos were terribly disappointing last week, also failing against Red Hill at the Showgrounds after a great build up and competitive start. “Let’s take the four points and get out of here,” was the call from one Kangaroos player as they ran past the goal umpire (me) officiating in the women’s game on the old potato chip, now oval number two, as they returned from their warm up. And when the league’s leading goal-kicker, Jesse Murphy, ran down Red Hill midfielder Dylan Hoare to kick the Kangaroos second goal of the first quarter, the visitors looked switched on - but that clearly wasn’t the case. The Kangaroos would be held goalless for the remainder of the match, held scoreless in the second and third quarters, as they fell to a 38-point loss, their biggest of the season.

Shane Paterson kept his nerve against Chris Irving in defence, and Blake Peach, Kyle Busuttil-Inglis and Haydn Golby had effective games, but the Kangaroos had too many passengers on the day. They will need to all jump on board today because the Tigers are clearly the team to beat for this year’s flag. The have the electrifying forwards in Ethan Johnstone and Ben Holmes, but the key to the Tigers this year has been a wonderful balance across the board. Zac Muschialli, Ryan Smyth, Rohan Bleeker, Shaun Clarke and Beau Cosson have all been consistent performers this year, while Terry Wheeler, Sam Geurts and Billy Quigley will be starting to get a sniff of that sweet smell of September. Langwarrin needs to win this one to avoid falling 10-points behind Hastings, who occupy fifth place on the ladder, with just four rounds remaining in the season.

Footy Preview - Division 2 On face value that might seem like an impossible deficit to peg back, but Hastings has an incredibly tough run with a game against the Kangaroos next week followed by games against Karingal, Red Hill and Chelsea to round out their season. The Kangaroos will be charging late with a much-softer draw. And they will have to do it from 10 points back, because the Tigers will win today by 11 points. Karingal’s resistance has been tested heavily this year and the Bulls will be tested again when a talented Rye outfit travels to Ballam Park today. The Bulls have done so well to be sitting in second place on the ladder right now, having used 45 players this season which is clearly the most of any team in the competition. The Bulls have used 12 players more than the teams that surround them at the top of the ladder – Dromana and Chelsea who have both used 33. Pearcedale, with 43, is the only other team to have used more than 40 players this year. Not surprisingly, given the massive turnover, the Bulls have been a little flat of late, with losses to Chelsea and Langwarrin interspersed with expected victories over Crib Point and Pearcedale. There was nothing flashy about last week’s win over the Panthers. They built a strong lead early before cruising home in the second half.

Andy McInnes, Andy Mathers and Dylan Gregson were once again reliable for the Bulls and will look to lead the way against the Demons this afternoon. Rye produced one of its poorest efforts for the season against Chelsea last week and looked a long way off being a genuine finals contender. Adam Kirkwood tried to lead his charges from the front, and Matt McIndoe gave everything in the ruck, but the Demons were really found wanting against a quality opponent. This is a must win for both teams, with the Demons desperate to take a huge step towards playing finals and the Bulls trying to avoid a drop from second to fourth on the ladder. It’s the resilient Bulls to get home by six points in a thriller. Hastings simply can’t afford to slip up when the Blues welcome a competitive Pearcedale to Thomas Barclay Reserve today. This should be a comfortable victory for the Blues, who can jump two-and-a-half games clear in fifth position if results go their way. But even then, with that large gap developing, they might remain underdogs to play finals this year. A tough-run home, that includes games against Langwarrin, Karingal, Red Hill and Chelsea will give us a better indication if the Blues are contenders or pretenders this season.

Footy Preview - Division 2 Shaun Foster was sensational last week kicking four goals in the victory over Tyabb, a victory built on a fast start and some impressive form from the likes of Col McVeigh, Matt Foy and Aaron Vinson. Paul Rogasch kicked two important goals and will be a key player for the Panthers to keep an eye on today. Pearcedale had a red-hot crack in the second half against Karingal last week, with Luke Daniel booting two and Zane Hill continuing his recent run of form. The Dales will be keen to build on their second half last week, with Harry Prior, Luke Dalmau, Travis Bravo and Luke Murray looking to take some momentum into next week’s winnable home-game against Crib Point. But the Blues will be too strong – taking a 36-point victory and some real confidence into next week’s season-defining clash against Langwarrin. Chelsea coach James Brain has just signed on until the end of 2019 and will look to keep that winning smile on his face when he leads his team into battle against Tyabb at Bunguyan Reserve this afternoon. The introduction of divisional football has been a blessing for the Gulls, who are now a genuine premiership contender after years of recent struggles. Brain has led the way, both on and off the field, while the class of Todd Gardiner, Curtis Bywater and Brad Clark has given the Seagulls’ faithful a real cause for optimism this year. They have that x-factor that could really build into something special in September.

On a day when Hastings was the only other team to kick 10 goals last week, the Seagulls dangerous front half came to the fore, booting 13 goals against Rye on their way to a very impressive 57-point victory. The Yabbies will have their hands full today, but are muchbetter equipped to handle these situations than in the past. Aaron Pacey has done a wonderful job with the Yabbies this year, who will already be delighted with their season’s output. Just one more win, possibly against Devon Meadows in round 17, would really put the icing on the cake for Pacey and co. Jake Anderson has been a wonderful contributor with 31 goals for the season, while Ash Planner, Sean Miller and Paul Ransom haven’t hit the scoreboard but have been equally as effective. The Yabbies are a tough ask at home, but Chelsea will prevail by 24 points. Devon Meadows and Somerville won’t play finals this year but that won’t stop a spirited and entertaining game from developing at Glover Reserve today. These two have had some massive highs and lows this year but just haven’t been consistent enough across the board. The Eagles have excuses, with their two exciting goalkickers Ryan Gillis and Billy Rolfe both sitting idle with season-ending injuries, while coach Andrejs Everitt hasn’t pulled on the boots since round eight against Rye. Those three could have made a huge difference to the Eagles’ prospects this year.

Footy - Division 2 Nathan Gillis has had a terrific season for the Eagles, while Luke Rowe, Levi Hughes and Adrian Speedy have done their best to cover the loss of those key players. The Panthers, on the other hand, have had their depth challenged less than any other team in the competition, having used a league-low tally of 32 players this year. A by-product of that statistic is they have also had more players involved in every game, 11, including star recruits Michael Theodoridis and gun midfielder Mat Fletcher. The Panthers should be aiming high to finish their season, with this game against the Eagles followed by winnable games against Rye, Crib Point and Tyabb. Red Hill at Red Hill will be a tough one to sign-off on. We’ll tip the Panthers to win this one by 16 points. And Red Hill will continue to apply pressure to the top three when it makes the trip to Crib Point today. No task seems beyond the Hillmen this year, with a sixgame winning streak a clear indication that they are hitting their straps at precisely the right time of year. Impressively, they kept Langwarrin scoreless for two quarters last week, and to just five points after quarter time. Ben Hughes did a power of work up forward, while Jonah Siversen and Lachie Chandler gave nothing away in defence. Jake Mold and Marcus Dal Lago were terrific through the midfield, while Chris Irving stuck to his guns in a great duel with Shane Paterson. Crib Point just needs to be competitive today as it builds towards its own final series over the next fortnight against Pearcedale and Devon Meadows. Steve Henshaw, Nick Rutherford and Kieran Jamieson were impressive for the Magpies last week, while club stalwart Luke Herrington would love nothing better than to add one or two more scalps before the end of the season. But it won’t be today…the Hillmen will win by 10-goals plus.

Footy Notes Tyabb It was real footy weather last week down at Hastings and was great to see all teams having a dead set crack. You would think yabbies would be used to the water and mud but we were shellschocked in the first quarter! Allowing the Stings to kick 5 unanswered goals wasn’t a great start but the yabs rallied and fought their way back into the game. They actually won the next 3 quarters. How often do you hear of a team winning 3 quarters but losing the game?! Jack THE MAN CHILD Doman thrived in the wet conditions and had his best game of the year, ANDO did ando things and kicked another 4 sossies (31 for the year), TURNER- was harder than algebra, BINKSY,SWEG and ROACH were solid contributors. We welcome Chelsea to our home deck today and continue on in our pursuit of that big scalp... In the reserves our boys couldn’t match it with Hastings who adapted to the atrocious conditions much better. Unfortunately we couldn’t match their ferocity at the ball and clean ball handling skills. Better players were Lithgow, Jock Jones, Johnston & Scown. The 19s boys dropped their 4th game of the season by less than 2 goals but again showed that they are a competitive and improving outfit. Daniel Parkinson Heating & Cooling Chelsea Firstly, a huge thanks to Michael Davis and all the team for a great day last Saturday. The lunch and the whole format was a huge success, big thanks also to Game Face and guest speaker Barry Michael, very entertaining. To Darren Jansen and his team in the kitchen, please take a bow as well as the young ladies that nailed the table service duties. Add to this another 3 games of really good footy in tough conditions. The Under’s tried really hard again and was really pleased to see them kick some goals late in the game. The two Senior games were both good contests and we managed to get the results we wanted, just 2 really solid efforts and hopefully we are getting ourselves in a good position to be apart of

some September action. Also a huge positive with the Club announcing James Brains reappointment for next season. We are in this position because of 3 years of hard work so let’s all make sure we stick together and support all those concerned both on and off the field. Hastings Well not sure what it is about playing Tyabb in 2018, but both times weather conditions have been shocking, good news is Hastings won all 3 games. The thirds had a very hard fought close win in shocking conditions, and played with only 17 men in the last term, the last time these two teams met it was a 2 point win to the young Blues, this time a 4 point win, well done boys. The Reserves won very convincingly and with a few players still to come back should really sew up the double chance,Hastings managed to keep Tyabb goaless for the entire game and ran out easy winners, a few tough games coming up, but at the moment things a looking good for the Ressies. The Seniors got back on the winners list and while the ground was in reasonable condition, got off to a great start, once the Rain came the game just became a constant slog, with ball up after ball up, the boys did enough to win due to a good first term, but full credit to Tyabb who handled the wet conditions a bit better than our boys. Pearcdale this week, before the final 4 weeks that will determine where the team finishes in 2018, it will be a tough month, but that’s why we play the game. Footy Notes Red Hill

Devon Meadows

Well the sun was shining, a gentle breeze was blowing and not a cloud in the sky..somewhere else in the world but not on the Hill last week. It was cold, wet and windy, great football conditions. The Ones took full advantage of the conditions and simply pushed the ball forward at every opportunity. Ben “Billy” Hughes and Chris Irving did the hard work in front of the sticks and Lachie Chandler and Jonah Siversen made sure the ball was pushed inside 50. An important win for the boys as they now start to consolidate a spot in the top four of the ladder. A trip to Cribby today for what has become a real local rivalry game. The Magoos went down fighting, but it does mean that wins now become more valuable than a spot around the fire in the green shed. The boys now sit in 6th spot, but only 2 points out of contention. We don’t want to end up a mathematical possibility to play final’s, some of the boys are not good at Math’s, wins are a must. Billy “Colonel” Sanders kicked three. The Afro Boase, Luke Adams and Prinsy worked hard all day. The Unders ticked off another challenge in beating Langy. In a good contest in the wet the boys worked hard for a win. Riley Bracun kicked goals like it was a dry day. The Hawk was simply superb, Harry Walker should be called the vice, once you are in one of his tackles you don’t get out. This week has been all about our premiership ruckman and club stalwart Lukas Hoogenboom as we celebrate the milestone man. We welcome Somerville to Pantherland after back to back games on the road, last week at Dromana all sides fought hard in the beautiful weather but failed to gain the 4 points against a great outfit that doesn’t require a marquee player, or thunder (or both). We’re looking forward to a big day as it has been 3 weeks since our last home game. With the exciting news of St Kilda champion Nicky Winmar hosting a luncheon in the rooms today it is definitely not a day to miss. The reserves should be a cracking game and if the seniors is anything like last time than it should be very enjoyable (for us that is). If I were to line up on Michael Theodoridis this week I would be hoping he kicks quite a sizeable bag so that I have a good chance to impress the umpires come BnF night. Be sure to reserve your spot for our “Christmas in July” function Saturday 28/7. Fancy dress, roast dinner and plenty of entertainment for $25. Crib Point

Saturday’s was 4th v 5th and a win for the young Pies would go a long way to booking themselves a finals berth. In extremely poor conditions, Somie took the early points and their attack on the footy was ferocious. After taking some time to adjust Crib Point started to work their way into the game. In the final minute Crib managed to get the ball forward. Shannon won himself a free kick and immediately swung on his left foot and kicked the matching winning goal. Better players were Whitford, Smith, Jago, Jett Wilson & Blake Wilson. The reserves got the chocolates over Somerville at The Eagles Nest with a solid 18 point win beating Somerville 7.6 to 4.6. With both teams short and hopelessly undermanned the winner was always going to be the side who fielded the best fill in’s. Best on ground was Joel Wisken who has returned strongly from a debilitating back injury chiming in with two goals on the wing. Fingers Malcolm won clearance after clearance and Captain Courageous Briggs provided the drive off the back flank in the upset win. After an extremely fast start from Somerville landing them 5 straight goals in the first quarter, the magpies adapted to the wet conditions wrestling some of the momentum back before half time leaving them right in the hunt. Somerville managed to grab a couple of crucial last quarter goals that left the magpies wanting. Final scores read 9.8 – 62 defeating the visitors 4.9 – 33

Footy Notes Dromana Today we play our return match against Langwarrin an old combatant from previous years. Our history playing at Lloyd Park still haunts some of our older supporters and hopefully the game will be in better weather conditions than the last couple of rounds. Last week saw all teams battle it out in horrific conditions with the U19s showing how to play in wet weather by producing a 100 point win. The Reserves with a depleted side led by 250 game captain and ex coach Daniel Maestrale again produced a win. Though only scoring 1 point against the wind for the game they established an early lead and maintained it throughout the match to win by 17 points. Even with the win we slipped to third place but have a two game break on the rest. Prior to the senior game it appeared the weather may be easing but alas no. Our senior team with five changes from the previous round battled hard to hold a 4 point lead at quarter time which they increased to 24 points by halftime. The third term saw Devon Meadows reduce the lead to 16 points at the last break, however Dromana added two goals to Devons 2 points in the last to run out 25 point winners and topping off a great day for the club sponsors. All teams wore black arm bands last wekk to recognise the passing of club legend Marc Courtney. Marc was Langwarrin Senior Coach for four seasons; 1960, 1961, 1962 & 1967, leading the reformed Club to its first Finals appearance in 1961. He played 48 Senior games for Langy. Marc was the Club’s Chairman of Selectors in our 1969 Premiership year and Off-field Strategist assisting Captain/ Coach Graeme Kilner. RIP Marc. Go Langy !!

Great game again from our skipper Adam Kirkwood, also Matt McIndoe and Nick Baron played good 4 quarter games. Willsy, Dicko and Lynchy all tried hard. Massive game today fella’s to keep our finals hopes alive. A big game today for the reserves as well, as they find themselves one game outside the 5. Big first up game by Sam “Sparrow” Smith and his side kick, Matt “Roadie” Dunn. Jacko Allen who had already played in the U/19’s played a blinder, along with Mazz, Schwind and Richo. The U/19’s just keep winning and a massive game today against 2nd place Karingal, to help cement a top 3 finish over the next few weeks. Great games last week, by Robbo, Swayn and Jacko Allen, closely followed by Thommo, Broady and Harry Suttcliffe. Rye Well, back to reality for the senior and reserve boys, last week against Chelsea, while the Under 19’s are just starting to hit their straps with a few players back from the seniors and they recorded a big win. The seniors after jumping out of the blocks 2 weeks ago against Hastings, were as flat as the dunny carters hat against Chelsea and were playing catch up footy all day. Lets hope for a speedy recovery for Zal White, from what we would call a pretty average act by #8 from Chelsea, the karma bus is on its way.

Netball Preview A thrilling finish is on the cards By David Nagel The inaugural season of MPNFL Division Two looks set for a thrilling conclusion with just one game separating the second and fifth teams on the ladder. Langwarrin is the clear front runner – sitting two games clear at the top of the table – but Karingal, Tyabb and Crib Point now have Hastings breathing down their necks after the Blues scored a brilliant 49-27 victory over the Yabbies last week. The Blues have had some brilliant patches this season, which seems to correspond with the availability of gun players Jess (C) and Sarah Hocking (WA) who starred in midcourt roles against the Yabbies. The Blues extended their lead from three to seven to 11 in the first three quarters before powering away with a 17 to 6 final term. The Hosking sisters received great support from the likes of Madelina Nyoul (GD) and Hayley Morton (GK) in defence, while Helen-Margaret Ashin (GA) and Armani Buskermolen (GS) capitalised on some great work from Nicole Ram and Darcy Lambert, who shared wing defence duties. The Blues have a walkover today against Pearcedale and will take some fresh legs into an exciting clash against Langwarrin next week. Langwarrin also features in today’s match of the day when it welcomes Dromana to Lloyd Park. Both teams are coming off impressive victories last week, with the Kangaroos proving too strong for Red Hill and the Tigers keeping their faint finals hopes alive with a fighting three-goal victory over Devon Meadows. The Kangaroos, with Brooke Kiely (GS) and Sarah Anderson (GA) in great form, dominated from the start, while the Tigers had to come from behind to secure their win over the Panthers. Devon Meadows led by two, one and one at the first three breaks before Dromana slammed on 12 goals to eight in the final term to win 37-34. Sophie Driscoll (GA) had a huge impact in the final term comeback while Emily La Roche (WD) and Briana (WA) and Emily Pratt (C) lifted their games when it was needed most. The Tigers will give the Kangaroos a run for their money early – but Langy will win comfortably in the end. Tyabb will look to bounce back to the winners list today when the Yabbies host Chelsea at Tyabb. The Yabbies were caught short against Hastings last week, but players like Sarah Hose, Caitlin Watson and Birgitta Nemaric showed enough good form to suggest they can turn things around today. Chelsea had a great win against Red Hill at its last outing and will head into the clash with a degree of confidence. But the Yabbies class will prove too big of an obstacle in the end.

Crib Point hosts Red Hill in a game that should consolidate the Magpies in a top-four position. The Magpies started slowly against Somerville last week but soon found their rhythm with Karly Wappett, Dionne Douglas, Lily Cook and Georgia Cox combining in a wonderful midcourt combination. Ebony McDermott and Shaye Williams soon the found their range under the ring…and the Magpies were away. Red Hill meanwhile battled valiantly against Langwarrin, with Georgia Vines (GK) and Sienna Wills (GD) standing tall against the best attacking unit in the competition. Nicola Mold and Emilie Baird also played well, but even their best efforts won’t get the job done today. The Magpies will get the four points. And Devon Meadows and Somerville lock horns in what should be a close battle at Glover Reserve. The Panthers showed some encouraging signs against Dromana last week, with Bryoni Hardeman, Nat Fallon and Emily Van Rooye pushing the Tigers all the way to the finish line. Somerville also had its moments against Crib Point, with Caitlyn Borley, Erin Barrow, Jaimee Peney and Dani Planner helping to build an early lead before the Magpies took control. This is a tough one to pick, but we’ll go for the Panthers by two goals. Karingal has the bye.

Netball Notes Tyabb After some rough rounds it was great to see D Grade play with fun & enthusiasm. The girls focussed on a few key skills at training which shone through in the game. Georgia was crucial in defence, intercepting countless times, Kenz had great vision into the goalers and Bella held strong in the circle. Despite horrendous conditions the team worked together to shoot our highest score in many weeks. C Grade had a good win in challenging conditions and with a depleted side. They were led by Mayra in GD who kept pushing the ball into attack and Brooke who demonstrated great accuracy despite the conditions. B Grade came out very flat & allowed Hastings to take the lead into half time. Bec worked hard to build pressure in defence which gave T opportunities to take some intercepts & turn the momentum of the match. Steph’s inception into the game gave the attacking end the much needed drive onto the circle & Kiz was able to finish off accurately. In A Grade, losing 4 of the starting 7 players to the travel bug gave some of our B Graders the opportunity to test themselves against quality opposition. Lenny was impressive linking up well with Dani & applying pressure to every pass. Watto was able to cause havoc in defence but we struggled bringing the ball out cleanly. In her 150th Hosey was persistent & worked tirelessly for her team. An unfortunate loss in the end but it reminds us of the quality netball needed as we look towards finals.

Somerville We were pretty happy with Kristy scoring us an indoor court due to the horrendous weather! I am sure we all would agree that you are the real MVP this week!! Crib Point didn’t seem to mind the indoors either showing their strength across all 4 games. D Grade - D Grade came away with a 12 goal win against Crib Point last week, keeping their top spot on the ladder. The girls are consistently showing just how well they play as a team, and will continue this form against Devon Meadows this week. C grade - The girls were outclassed by a well oiled Crib Point last week. At no stage did the girls give up, and with some great passages of play and their dedication to one another and the game, they are confident they can take these positives into the game against Devon this week. B Grade - After a loss in Round 12, the girls were ready to come out firing and get back on the winners list against Crib Point, and they did just that. B Grade are ready to continue that form against Devon today, and have put in the work to make sure that happens. A Grade - A Grade faced the reigning premiers Crib Point last week. We started off with a strong, confident first half, but Crib Point turned it on in the second. Although we rallied hard in the last quarter to get back up, we just couldn’t bridge the gap. 4 points up for grabs today against Devon.

Today we take on Devon Meadows. This should be a nice match up across the board, and we would love to sneak away with a nice 4 from 4 this week.

Crib Point With the weather forecast for wintery storms, we were thankful Somerville decided to move the game indoors. U/17 played Hastings & set a goal to reduce the score difference from their last meeting and they met this target. BOC Elly. D Grade battled it out against a tough Somie outfit, unfortunately the result did not fall our way. BOC Mikaela who has slotted into the team nicely. C Grade had a ripper game, defensive pressure was on point, our girls made Somie work hard for every pass. Ball movement was controlled & they have gone back to playing the brand of netball they started the season with. BOC Rob who provided great movement & shot accurately. B Grade went out with outstanding intensity & showed persistence when competing against a side who contest every pass. The girls dug deep taking it up to Somie winning the 3rd. Unfortunately we couldn’t sustain it allowing Somie to run away with it. BOC Georgia for her great defensive pressure. A Grade had a must win match. It’s a tight run into finals, making every win important. Finding some morale & putting out a great team effort allowed for some brilliant individual performances. We started a bit erratic & undisciplined, but as the game progressed pulled together & in the second half displaying slick skilled netball. We drew on a few B Grade players & these girls stepped up & really gelled well. BOC Tessa who was outstanding the entire game. Today we play RedHill, let’s get the wins & make the march towards finals count!

Karingal Another horrible week of conditions didn’t stop the bullettes from having another solid week of netball and putting 3 wins on the board. D grade had the toughest conditions of the day, with girls playing on what looking more like a swimming pool than a court, but sheer determination and guts allowed the girls to build up a 6 goal lead in a low scoring game to be crowned winners before the umps decided to call it off! D grade won 20-14 A quick sweep of the courts and the C girls were into it. Not avoiding the downpour the C girls had to play patiently and with discipline to build their lead. Steph Spicer has a blinder in goals and the midcourt to provide excellent feeds in attack. C grade won 28-12 B grade started with the sun shining, taking advantage of the clear conditions to pile the goals on early with the strong target of Breanna Neighbour providing too great of a challenge for the Pearcedale defence end. The sunny conditions were short lived as the girls battled through several downpours, but the rain didn’t deter as the girls put away a big win 52-27. Well done Bullettes!!

Netball Notes Langwarrin

Dromana

Round 13 saw us travel out to Red Hill. On what was a cold, wet day we were very fortunate to be playing in the shed. U/17’s kicked off the day with great determination. Being beaten by 54 goals last time, we managed to keep the deficit to only 22. It’s great to see so much improvement in our young U/17’s side. D Grade showed their dominance from the first centre pass. Definitely a side who turned up to play after being beat last week. C Grade continue to keep us all on the edge of our seats, being down by 6 at half time managed to show their composure and with the amazing support from our senior footballers, we got over the line by 2. B Grade was an interesting game, we played sloppy netball but were still able to be in front at the final siren. Great work from our defenders, they definitely kept us in this one. A Grade was another tough battle. Sara Drain and the girls were pushed at times but still seemed in control. Working on new combinations throughout the game gave our girls more ammunition coming into the last few rounds of the season. We can’t wait to host Dromana this weekend and hopefully come away with more wins than last time.

With a clean sweap last weekend both Netball and Football things seam to be going really well at Tigerland lets see if we can do the same again this weekend. Numbers at training are at the best I have seen and it is paying off on court. Again we appreciated playing indoors on what was a wet day. All grades had really good wins to keep their spots in the top 4. U17’s had a really good run against a young Devon and had a huge win. D Grade have really jelled and have strength right across the court. Team Award C Grades played better this week and are looking forward to Sept B Grade has been great to watch with the Younger girls making the step up this year and soaking up all the knowledge and training. Rye

Rye Demons made the trip to Chelsea last Saturday in wet conditions. It didn’t stop D Grade in bringing home the win. It was a very scrappy game due to the wet conditions but both Chelsea and Rye fought it out in a good game. Rye 29 defeated Chelsea 11 Best on: Tori Edwards C Grade had a tough game, missing majority of their major line up. They tried there best but unfortunately Chelsea were just too good on the day. Good effort by both sides. Chelsea 28 defeated Rye 20 Best on: Jas Greenfield B Grade had an amazing game up against rivals, Chelsea. It was close all game, Chelsea extending the lead out but Rye fighting back and really narrowing the score. In the end Chelsea took home the win. Chelsea 33 defeated Rye 26 Best on: Lauren Hearn Next week we make the trip to Karingal. We hope we can challenge Karingal and bring home a few more wins. Good luck to all!!

Netball Notes Red Hill Round 13 v’s Langwarrin Last round the A grade girls came up against ladder leaders Langwarrin who proved why they are in top form! But we matched them in intensity, skill, conversions and teamwork. Next comes conversion to goals and we will be a major contender in games to come. Great effort from all 7 players especially Ashley who played 8 quarters for the red and white today. B grade had a very close match, showing strength that this young side has. Langwarrin unfortunately were too strong & went home with the points . Great effort from our 3 U/17 girls stepping up & into the attacking end to keep this team strong. C grade put in an amazing effort . Only going down by 2 goals to a well disciplined Langwarrin squad. Each week this team is improving. Giving their best effort. They won’t make finals but will be a team of the future with our club. D grade again had a strong game but again not quite strong enough. Some terrific passages of play & great defence work from this team. u/17 again showed their strength coming home with our only win for the day. Well done girls. Each week you keep improving.

Devon Meadows Last week we travelled down the Peninsiula to the primary school - a day to be thankful of playing inside. U17s - Last week our 17s team still struggles to get a full team due to illness, school trips and holidays. This meant half the team was filled with 15s players. The girls struggled to get a good start in the first quarter against another tough, experienced side. Hopefully having a full team next week and a fuller training sees a win next week. Thanks to Eliza, Maisey and Hayley from 15s for filling in. BOC to Jesse piper got her 110% effort and defensive pressure over the ball. D Grade - D grade had a tough game coming up against a fast and strong dromana side. The girls went out fighting and didn’t give up. Some new combinations and young 17s created a lot of turn overs and space on the court. Although the girls were defeated it was a solid game, one of the best yet, as we continue to strive for improvement each week. BOC courtney for her fight and never give up attitude

C Grade - This week we took on Dromana and it was a perfect day to play in doors! The girls took a bit to settle in the first quarter as they adapted to the faster pace that indoors brings. In the second quarter the cobwebs were off, the pressure was on and we were playing our best netball as a team all season pegging back Dromanas 1st quarter lead to go in even and half time. The girls continued this form taking it right up to the ladder leaders for the best part of 3qtrs showing how far our TEAM game has come along over the past few weeks. Dromana were to good in the end. however we continue to take steps in the right direction as a team. BOC: Elyse for a solid game in defence picking off the ball all over the court. B Grade - started well adjusting to the indoor game, 4 down at quarter time having had some great patches of play. Heading into the 2nd we needed to keep up the intensity of the first, Dromana got on top of us defensively despite our defensive efforts and number of turnovers. Half time proved we’ve a lot of work to do as a team to unite and get out there with a positive attitude. Our fourth quarter was up there with the first, good patches of controlled play saw us fall just short of our team goal. Best on Jess Fairchild for her constant driving, for her willingness to take on feedback and show a willingness to give it her all throughout the entire game. This week is going to be tough, we must unite and focus on us and our team goals, go Panthers! A Grade - Indoors, no rain, fast paced and an opportunity to see how much we have improved! We continue to start strong, be focused and work the ball. This game - hit all the nails on the head! We came out of the starting blocks with so much determination and ball control, we took the lead straight and held all the way into the 4th. This came came down to who could hold out the most .... goal for goal, each team played hard. Four costly turnovers quickly saw us seven goals down in the last quarter, lifting our game up we fought hard but could not gain the lead back. BOC Shannon - great confidence for four quarters, making space, creating plays mixing up the game. This week we welcome the Eagles to the Den for what is going to be a well fought out contest across all grades. A big congratuations to Nat and Dyl on their Engagement! GO PANTHERS

Netball Notes Chelsea The D girls came out last week wanting to improve from our game against Rye, however weather conditions and having no bench did not permit that from happening. Rye played extremely well considering the conditions and their pressure down the court really stopped us. Best on this week goes to Mikaela who kept the pressure up, and effected many great tips and intercepts. Our C grade came out firing last Saturday with a great 11-3 first quarter. Unfortunately our middle two quarters werenâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t quite as disciplined, and we allowed Rye to get back within 1 goal. With a more poised fourth quarter we were able to pull away and eventually come out with an 8 goal victory. Andrea had her best game of the season with multiple intercepts and plenty of great feeds into the circle. Her run through the center was pivotal to our win.

B Grade had another awesome game against Rye, finally emerging with a 7 point win. An incredibly defensive game! Jayde Mason starred in GK for four quarters, with special mention to Tara and Kym for continuous turnovers and backing up deflections, and our goalers worked so hard against Ryeâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s defence. Our mid-court also helped assist the win with amazing feeds into the circle. Our B grade are looking incredible for the end of this season!
