PROUD PARTNERS OF
AFL South East What a pleasure it was to be at Beaconsfield’s Holm Park Reserve last Saturday to see a unique day of football and netball – with 16 games of sport taking place at the one venue. The decision to play the SEWF Grand Finals on oval two added an extra layer of atmosphere that fully complemented the second semi-final action in SEFNL. To see large sections of oval two ringed with supporters from all six competing SEWF clubs was very exciting and confirmed once again the growing nature and popularity of women’s football. To our host clubs last week, Beaconsfield and Pakenham, we thank you for your outstanding efforts. Pakenham takes the spotlight again today, hosting the preliminary final, before we head to Edwin Flack Reserve next Saturday for the final game in the history of SEFNL. To all clubs competing today – we wish you well as you look to progress to the final day on the football and netball calendar. I ask everyone who attends this finals series, the coaches, officials, players and spectators, to keep one thing at the forefront of their mind while at the finals. Respect the game - this is sport - this is fun! The expectation is that the game is treated in a respectful manner both inside and outside the fence. Players should always play by the rules and support and encourage their teammates. To the umpires who have been selected to officiate in these big games, congratulations on your appointments and we wish you well. Football and netball are two difficult games to officiate. Split-second decisions are made and we implore the sporting community as a whole to respect the umpire’s decision at all times. To our major partners, thank you for your ongoing support across all six of our leagues. Your support makes the competition what it is today. Please take a close look at the Partners spread across our hard copy and digital records, and websites, and please support them as they have supported our great games.
PRESS RELEASE FROM AFLSE – CRANBOURNE FNC AFL South East has informed the Cranbourne Football Netball Club that it will be unable to lodge an appeal against the outcome of the MPNFL Special General Meeting held on Wednesday 29 August. At the meeting, MPNFL clubs rejected Cranbourne’s application to become a member club of the MPNFL. The 22 MPNFL clubs were voting on a motion to accept Cranbourne’s application to join the MPNFL in 2019. Cranbourne’s application to join the MPNFL required a majority vote of 17-5 to be successful, but the required 75 percent was not achieved. Under AFL Victoria Rules, Cranbourne had seven days to lodge an appeal with the AFL South East Region Commission, with any appeal to be heard by an independent Appeals Panel. But, after receiving legal advice, Cranbourne was advised that the AFL Victoria Rules do not override the MPNFL Constitution in regard to the admission of new members to the League. AFL South East Region General Manager John Anderson said he was devastated for Cranbourne, a community football netball club that had worked through a long process with its members to keep the club strong and vibrant moving forward. Anderson said helping Cranbourne to find a suitable league to play in for 2019 has been, and will continue to be, a top priority for AFL South East. “AFL South East will be working closely with the Cranbourne Football Netball Club to help determine the future direction of the club,“ Anderson said. “Cranbourne is a strong, proud and passionate club and will be a wonderful asset for the league where it participates in for 2019 and beyond.” John Anderson Region General Manager AFL South East

AFL Vic Country REGIONS PREPARE FOR 2018 V/LINE CUP
announced their final V/Line Cup Under 15 boys squad, following a series of trial games in July.
Hundreds of country Victoria’s best Under 15 players have been busily preparing for the 2018 V/Line Cup, with regional trials held across the state last month. WorkSafe AFL Victoria Country’s premier junior regional championships, the V/Line Cup, is set to be bigger and better than ever when the competition returns to Latrobe City Council in 2018. Now in its fifteenth year as the official naming rights partner of the carnival, V/Line has contributed extensively in providing the opportunity for young players to challenge themselves against the best in their age group across regional Victoria. In 2018, the V/Line Cup has grown to include two Under 15 Boys and one U16 Girls divisions, with more than 3,000 participants expected to flock to Latrobe City Council when the four day carnival kicks off on September 24-27.
Training has also begun for the 2018 Under-16 Western Victoria V/Line Cup squad with the best 24 players across the Goldfields and Western District selected following the Under-16 Western Victoria carnival at Ararat’s Alexandra Oval. Similarly, AFL Goulburn Murray, AFL Sunraysia and AFL Central Victoria kicked off their trials on July 3 with the Pioneers Under-15 regional Carnival held in Mildura. Supported by their aligned Next General Academy Club, Richmond Football Club, the players received fantastic academy sessions including hearing from key members of the Club including Brendon Gale, Neil Balme, Kate Sheahan and Dale Weightman as guest speakers at the program. All V/Line Cup squads will be finalised in the coming weeks and published on the AFL Victoria website in the lead up to the 2018 V/Line Cup carnival.
For many competing at these championships, the V/ Line Cup will be a stepping stone to AFL Victoria’s mainstream talent pathway, the TAC Cup and TAC Cup Girls competitions. In addition the V/Line Cup also provides an important development pathway for young umpires, with all field umpires at the Championships members of V/Line Umpire Academy. Eight different regions in Victoria will host teams within the 2018 V/Line Cup, which is set to return to Latrobe City council for the fourth year. The four-day carnival will kick off on September 24 and include two Under-15 Boys divisions and one Under-16 Girls division. Regions have already commenced their journey to the V/Line Cup carnival, holding a series of regional trials aiming to identify upcoming talent as they work towards finalising their V/Line Cup Squads. AFL Goldfields, AFL Western District and AFL Wimmera Mallee, in conjunction with the Western Bulldogs Next Generation Academy (WB NGA) have recently

Football No finals in the SEFNL will be replayed. In the case of a draw, extra time will be played. If scores are level at the completion of the fourth quarter the field umpires shall direct the goal umpires to confirm the correct score. • Coaches are not permitted to address their players between the end of the fourth quarter and the start of extra time, nor between any periods of extra time. • Once scores are confirmed the ball shall be returned to the centre of the ground and the game will continue for two five-minute halves (with time on). • Each team shall kick in the same direction as they did in the fourth quarter for the first half of extra time. Teams will change ends for the second half of extra time. • If scores remain level after two five-minute periods, a further two five-minute periods (with time on) will be played with clubs changing ends after the first five-minute period. • This process will continue until there is a result. Netball In the event of a draw in a final, at the end of the game when scores are tied there is a two (2) minute break during which time there may be substitution and/or team changes. • At the end of the two (2) minute break, there shall be a further 2 x 5 minute halves played for A and B Grade, 2 x 4 minute halves for C, D and 17 Under and 2 x 3 minute halves for 13 and 15 Under. Footy Preview Tipsters
A rivalry to stand the test of time By David Nagel One of the great clubs in the history of the South East Football Netball League will bid farewell today when Narre Warren and Cranbourne collide in a blockbuster preliminary final at Pakenham. These two clubs have played such an important role in the 14-year history of the competition, with Narre Warren competing in nine grand finals along the journey – and Cranbourne six. It’s testament to the strength and loyalty of both clubs that they have stayed at the top of their games for so long. The battles between the Magpies and Eagles – particularly through the years of 2011 to 2013 – will long live in the memory of those involved in the sport. And today, well we see two of the great warriors in local football – Michael Collins and Marc Holt – take to the sporting field together for possibly the last time. These two have embodied the spirit, not just of their clubs, but of the SEFNL competition as a whole. Their dedication to playing interleague football together has been inspiring and a main reason why SEFNL has won six of its seven battles since becoming a sole representative of the league in 2012. Well done Collo and Holty. But today the two greats of the game fight for a massive prize, the pleasure of taking on a classy Berwick outfit in next week’s grand final. The Magpies were blown away by the Wickers in the third term last week, trailing by 32 points at three-quarter time, but showed true grit to fight their way back into the contest. Familiar faces like Collins, Dylan Quirk, Jake Richardson and Josh Tonna led the last-quarter revival and will take some real belief in to battle. The Magpies were the best team all year – but know better than anybody that nothing comes easy against Cranbourne. The presence of Holt has kept this team together throughout the journey, with Ryan Davey, Stu Morrish, Troy Tharle and Brandon and Glenn Osborne becoming magnificent servants of this footy club. They have clearly been the most resilient club in the history of the SEFNL competition and will need to draw on every last fibre of that precious quality today. The Magpies look a more well-balanced outfit around the ground, with Trent Cody and Brad Scalzo looking for big games through the midfield, while Nick and Stewie Scanlon will be keen to hit the scoreboard hard – despite the likely presence of the Osborne brothers by their side. It’s the Magpies to take their rightful spot in this year’s grand final with a 23-point victory. To view the full preview of both finals, including tips and comments from coaches, download the GameFace App or go to www.aflserecord.com.au and follow the prompts.

Netball Preview Can Cranbourne ride out the wave? By David Nagel Cranbourne is playing its best netball of the season and will look to continue its magic-carpet ride through this year’s finals series when Donna Wilson and her girls take on Beaconsfield in the preliminary final at Pakenham. The girls from Casey Fields began their finals campaign with an easy victory, 45-21, over Doveton in the elimination final, but found themselves in a world of hurt – trailing Narre Warren by 11 goals during the middle stages of last week’s first semi-final. But, somehow, they dug themselves out of a massive hole, finishing strongly to record one of the great finals wins in the history of this proud club. The reward is significant for Cranbourne, who progress to the preliminary final for the second year running. They have belief and momentum on their side, and a champion defender in Tara Cecil to test Beaconsfield to the fullest this afternoon. Cecil led the charge for Cranbourne last week, with some brilliant reading of the play and execution of her intercepts changing the course of the match. The 2011, ’13 and ’17 league best and fairest winner looms as a key figure in causing an upset against Beaconsfield this afternoon. But Cecil can’t do it all herself and will rely on her teammates to keep Beacy honest through the midcourt. Allie Oakenfull, Tegan Robertson, Steph Ryan and the very consistent Nat Sparks have been solid performers all year, while Tegan Stahl, Tahlia Coates, Kayla Wilson and Kasey Teakle have all played key roles in Cranny’s late-season resurgence. They weren’t even a certainty of playing finals until very deep in the season.
The goal-scoring power of Tanya Mijovic will be important for Beaconsfield today. Beaconsfield on the other hand has been the clear number-two ranked team in the competition and will be extremely disappointed if it doesn’t make its way through to the big dance. Kelly Whitecross and her girls were just four goals away from booking that first ticket to the biggest day on the netball calendar against Tooradin-Dalmore last week – so know a premiership is not out of reach. Whitecross has some star players at her disposal with 2016 league best and fairest winner Kaela Hughes regarded as one of the best midcourters in the business. Ash Gill, Zoe Mason and Rylee Nelson stand tall and proud beside their skipper, while Bianca Sanzaro and Dani Cameron are the ultimate warriors at either end of the court. And Tanya Mijovic, Abbie Sheers and Dani Fedel have made significant contributions to a very strong season from the Eagles. So it all comes down to this! Will Cranbourne – sitting on that magic carpet – continue to fly under the radar, or will Beaconsfield frank its wonderful form this season and book its ticket to the big one? Sorry Cranbourne, your magnificent ride is over – its Beaconsfield to take on the Seagulls in next week’s grand final after a comfortable 10-goal victory.
Cranbourne is back in the preliminary final and Nat Sparks has led the way.
