PROUD PARTNERS OF

AFL South East On behalf of AFL South East and Commission Chairman Roger Hampson I welcome everyone to the 2018 Berwick Motor Group South East Football Netball League Grand Final. First of all I would like to wish Berwick and Narre Warren all the best in the senior football grand final and Tooradin-Dalmore and Cranbourne the same fortune in A Grade netball. Berwick and Narre Warren have won eight of the last 12 premierships, with Narre winning six flags between 2006 and 2013, before Berwick assumed the mantle in recent times winning in 2015 and last year. In netball, Tooradin-Dalmore is also going for back-toback premierships, not having won for a decade prior to that. Cranbourne on the other hand, after a sensational win against Beaconsfield last week, is playing in its first ever SEFNL A Grade Grand Final. From an AFL South East perspective it is a sad weekend in that it will be the last time clubs play under our banner. I would like to apologise for the fact that we could not bring together a divisional model in the South East region incorporating the MPNFL and SEFNL clubs. Strategically it would have made for one of the strongest leagues in the state, and in my view, it is a missed opportunity. We have already seen the benefits of a two-division model in the MPNFL this year. Despite AFL South East governing the league, the MPNFL has had a constitution in place for over 20 years which requires 75 percent of clubs to vote in favour of a change to the competition structure.

Welcome here to Edwin Flack Reserve in Berwick to the BMG SEFNL Grand Final day for what is sure to be a memorable and somewhat emotional event for many as we say farewell to the SEFNL competition. Today we are looking forward to some wonderful grand finals across 10 games of netball and three games of football with the senior football grand final seeing reigning premiers Berwick take on Narre Warren in what will be a contest to remember. In A Grade netball we have another reigning premier in Tooradin-Dalmore taking on Cranbourne who have remarkably come from fourth to make the Grand Final. I’d like to congratulate everyone that is involved in Grand Finals today and best wishes to all participating teams. A heartfelt thanks to everyone who has helped put today together in particular to our hosts Glen Gambetta and Mel Broadley at the Berwick Football and Netball Clubs and to the City of Casey along with AFLSE and the SEFNL Board and to our highly valued sponsors who have supported SEFNL this season. SEFNL’s legacy will be its people and to every volunteer and contributor who has given something of themselves to SEFNL over the past 14 years you should all feel very proud today. Enjoy the day everyone. Ryan Ford SEFNL Chairperson - AFLSE Commissioner

With SEFNL clubs not being supported in the vote I completely understand the clubs seeking a divisional structure elsewhere. To that end, we have supported the clubs move to the newly named AFL Outer East, which also accommodates netball and a divisional model. I would like to thank our host clubs through the finals so far. This weekend we are at Berwick for the football and netball grand finals, however to Beaconsfield and Pakenham, I also say thank you.

AFL Vic Country AFL Victoria would like to wish all teams competing in grand finals in the AFL South East Region the best of luck this weekend. The South East Football Netball League grand final between Berwick and Narre Warren should be a thoroughly absorbing affair with both teams having the upper hand at different stages of the season. Narre Warren will be searching for its first premiership since 2013 while Berwick is looking for back-to-back flags and its third success in four years. Good luck to both coaches, Matt Shinners from Narre Warren and Stewart Kemperman from Berwick, as they look build on previous success with the clubs. The four power clubs in SEFNL, Beaconsfield, Berwick, Cranbourne and Narre Warren, will battle it out in the reserves and under 19s. And Pines will be out to end a long premiership drought that extends all the way back to 1994 when the Pythons take on perennial powerhouse Sorrento in the MPNFL Division One Grand Final. Pines has been knocking on the door for some years and gets the chance to lift the silverware after an impressive second semi-final victory against the Sharks two weeks back. Sorrento has made a seamless transition from the second to top flight of the MPNFL and will be looking to build on a strong recent run of success, winning last year’s Nepean/ Division Two grand final at this Sunday’s venue – Frankston Park. Good luck to Pines coach Paddy Swayn and Sorrento’s Luke Tapscott. Edithvale-Aspendale, Frankston YCW and Mt Eliza will battle it out in the all-important curtain raisers. AFL9s is back in 2018! REGISTER your team at afl9s. com.au Pies claim inaugural Victorian Wheelchair Football League premiership The Collingwood Magpies have made history, after securing the inaugural Robert Rose Foundation Victorian Wheelchair Football League premiership. Played in front of a packed house at Boroondara Sports Complex, the Pies ran out comfortable 60 points winners over a spirited Richmond outfit. The game started with a whirlwind first quarter. Collingwood’s Richard Amon scored three first quarter goals, while across half-back, teammate Orfeo Cecconato dominated taking numerous marks. His opponent Riley Fitzgerald was pivotal for his team, scoring Richmond’s first goal of the match. The Pies went into half time with a 36-point lead after Amon continued his dominance in the forward line, scoring three goals for the second quarter, to take his total to six majors for the half. Cecconato continued to dominate across half back, with four marks and three key smothers. The midfield battle between the Pies’ Mark Walker and the Tigers’ Nathan Wilburn was hard fought. Adam Georgelin scored the Tigers’ second and proved elusive across the forward line. Brett Newman added two more to the Pies tally to give them a 65-point three-quarter time lead. The Tigers’ inaccuracy up forward proved costly, while the Pies backmen in Brendan Stroud and Cecconato seemed too strong to overcome. The final score 13.4.82 def 2.10.22) Despite the result, Richmond’s Judeland Antony, Tim Nield and Yasmina McGlone produced solid performances, while Captain Matt Morris lead from the front. The Robert Rose Medal for the Best Player of the Grand Final went to Collingwood’s Cecconato for his outstanding defensive play and multiple intercept marks. For more details, visit aflvic.com.au

Footy Preview SEFNL goes out with a bang! By David Nagel So this is it hey! After 14 glorious years we bid a fond farewell to SEFNL with a classic contest between two arch rivals in Berwick and Narre Warren – at Edwin Flack Reserve. It’s the Wickers home ground, but the home of many great memories for the Magpies who last triumphed at the great amphitheatre of local football in 2012. There’s some outside noise about the venue…but the Magpies are not fazed by that part of the equation and are more than happy to take on the Wickers on their own deck. The satisfaction will go up two fold if they win! What we’re playing for here is much more than a premiership cup. There’s a lasting legacy associated here, with the Wickers looking for back-to-back flags – three of the last four titles – and signing off as the best going around. The Magpies have won six SEFNL crowns, the Wickers and Cranbourne are next best with two, and they would love to put the seal on a dominant era for this footy club. The game itself…well it should be a beauty! Berwick is an outstanding football team with a wonderful balance of extravagant attack and dour team defence. The Wickers allow the perfect teasing distance, allowing perceived time and space for the opposition before closing it down in a hurry. And once they’ve caused a turnover – it’s goodnight! How Narre Warren uses the football, and how it denies a waiting pack of Berwick interceptors, will have the biggest bearing on this result. If the Magpies are clean going forward – they can win this. They must deny players like Michael Riseley, Jo West, Nick Hillard, Riley Heddles and Will Arthurson clean hands on the footy, which lays the platform for that extravagant run and carry mentioned earlier. Just one quick hand ball and players like Luke Sheppard, Reece Piper, Lucas Jellyman-Turner and Tom Brennan are off to the races and causing all sorts of carnage. And we haven’t even mentioned the strength of Travis Tuck, James Magner, Bailey Asher and Bryce Rutherford at the stoppages, or the AFL-quality class of Ash Smith. Will skipper, and now three-time Norm Walker Medallist, Madi Andrews play, or will a nagging quad injury force Berwick’s heart and soul to sit nervously on the sidelines? So how do the Magpies win this, what X-factor do they possess to turn around a poor recent record against the Wickers? The Magpies can match the Wickers in close, with Michael Collins, Dylan Quirk, Trent Cody, Brad Scalzo and Hayden Stagg all strong and reliable contributors, while the laserlike left foot of Josh Tonna will need to cause some serious damage if the Magpies are to get the choccies. And their forwards, well they need to fire! Trent Shinners and Aaron Wilson need to clunk their marks, the Scanlon boys, Nick and Stewie, need to convert every

8

available opportunity, while Mitch Cox or an emerging Tom Miller need to sneak under the radar and kick two or three. Cox has a bag of six under his belt this year while Miller kicked 10 in three weeks during the middle stages of the season. But that’s where we’re heading here, with the feeling that the Magpies need something special to happen, while the Wickers just need to stick to what they do best and they should get across the line. There will be a lot of mixed emotions this afternoon. The joy of winning premierships, the sorrow of defeat, and the outright sadness of losing a competition that has brought so much joy to so many. There’s a tear in the eye as we give our last ever tip in SEFNL. Get on Berwick….they’ll win by 31 points.

Two midfield bulls - Narre Warren’s Michael Collins and Berwick’s Travis Tuck - set the scene for a classic grand final showdown.

Reserves - Feathers are set to fly By David Nagel

Narre Warren will be hunting its first reserves premiership since 2014 when the Magpies take on Cranbourne in the grand final at Edwin Flack Reserve. The Magpies will start a warm favourite to win after downing the Eagles on all four occasions this season. Narre scored 20, 8 and 57 point wins during the homeand-away season before a hard-fought nine-point victory in their last meeting in the qualifying final. The Eagles did have six more scoring shots that day. Mitch Cowan, Daniel Jackson and Rhys Dempster have been the dangers up forward for the Magpies, while Daniel Borninkhof, Corey Bader and Brenton Wells have all had impressive seasons. Players like Hayden Johnson, Jake Boccari, Mitch Van De Loop, Cam Miller and Nick Mashado have also played key roles in bringing the Magpies to this stage. League best and fairest winner Nick Russo holds the key to Cranbourne’s chances, with his brother Adrian and Jay Mills also possessing the ability to hit the scoreboard. Chace Struth has been super-consistent this season while Aiden Gajanovic, Adam Koe and Jordy Leinmueller have all offered great support. Despite Narre’s perfect record against the Eagles, this one should be a beauty and offer a perfect build up to the seniors. It’s the Magpies by a point.

Under 19s Beaconsfield will be looking for back-to-back Under 19 titles when the Eagles take on Berwick in the allimportant grand final day curtain raiser. Coach Luke Young has again done a great job with his charges, losing just once for the season to Narre Warren. The Eagles have a perfect record against Berwick, winning by 37, 18 and 8 before a 43-point victory in the second semi-final. The Eagles struck early, kicking six goals to one in the opening term. Matt Johnson, Mitch Pollock and Brock Jenkins-Ton have kicked truly for the Eagles this season while Matt Wilson, Sam Merrick and Jack Docherty have been influential figures around the ground. Jake O’Sullivan, Jonte Andrew, Jahvon Bergman and Jake Lewis will need big games for Berwick to get the job done. It’s Beaconsfield by 29 points.

Berwick 2

Lucas Jellyman Turner Getting the dividends of a great preseason. Pivotal to Berwick’s run and setting up inside 50 opportunities.

10

4

Br yce Ruther ford Strong inspirational midfielder who is just as dangerous going forward. Loves it in close and also loves a goal.

11

5

12

Travis Tuck

In his first year at the club he has added to the midfield. Loves it close and tight and is hard to stop when in flight.

Andrew Morozoff A club stalwart who just keeps on giving. Tough in mind and body and can play forward, back or in the ruck. Versatile.

To m B r e n n a n Classy winger/midfielder who has had a great season. Gets plenty of the footy and never wastes a possession.

6 Trent Van Hout Club stalwart who plays half back. Strong intercept mark, reads the ball well and provides plenty of drive.

16

7

Madison Andrews Super player who has been afforded a few weeks rest coming into the finals, expect him to be fresh and firing.

18

8

Ashley Smith The go to man in the back half. Elite disposal and is known for his long bombs from outside 50. Great clubman.

19

9

20

Brody Connelly Athletic tall forward who is as dangerous at ground level as he is taking pack marks. Can kick a bag.

18

Harrison Money Classy forward who plays tall and a small elusive crumber. Great hands and beautiful kick for goal.

Presidents Message Berwick

Whilst we as a club can be proud of the fact we have made the Grand Final for the fourth year in a row, there is an opportunity to reflect on other successes over the year which are not measured by ladder positions or premierships. It is the relationships we build with other sporting groups such as the Berwick Cricket Club whereby we support the other where possible in their respective off seasons. The Berwick Junior Football Club is another relationship where the two clubs have never related as strongly as they do now. This enables the senior club to become involved in junior training nights, have the 17s train with our seniors and the under 8s and 9s playing games at half time of the seniors. It is the discussions with other community groups where we continue to foster stronger ties for the benefit of the community. The fact 19 of our senior team today played junior football at Berwick makes us very proud, with similar ratios in our reserves and under 19s. It’s the re-investment back into our facilities to ensure they will remain an asset for the next generations of Berwick footballers. The action plans we have in place to have a women’s football team in 2020, our club hosting the last ever SEFNL Grand Final, and probably most important to me is the fact five players jumped onto our committee during 2018. A hard-working committee with no passengers. I see these items as a real measure of the club, its culture and future direction. It is Grand Final Day though and it is the culmination of 10 months of hard work for coaches and players alike for all clubs represented today. Our under 19s are first up and what an effort it has been. We started the year with low numbers and were trying to grab players from everywhere. To go from that start to representing the club on this day is a reflection on the tremendous effort put in by all involved. Regardless of the outcome be proud of yourselves. It’s the seniors turn in the afternoon. In a very even season at the top of the ladder we find ourselves coming good at the right time. I know the 22 representing the club will give there all and leave nothing behind. To the netball club who continue to work with us a team, Thank You. Together we make decisions in the best interest of us all. To all our members thank you for the ongoing support every week. To our sponsors, thank you as we would not be here without you.

22

To our committee: they say good things come in small packages. Yes, we are a small group and yes, we are fighting above our weight……but take the fact we are here today coupled with the above achievements and you are the ones who should be most proud of all. To those helpers, who are not on the committee, we could not do it without you To the coaches, thanks for professionalism and commitment.

your

unrelenting

To the players, thanks for being a great bunch of young men who wear the jumper with pride. You make it easy for us to do what we do. Good Luck Lads…GO WICKERS Glenn Gambetta – President – Berwick Football Club

Cranbourne On behalf of Cranbourne Football Netball Club I would like to congratulate our Reserves, A Grade, Under-17 Red and both Under-15 netball teams on making the Grand Final today. All the preparation is done, so today may luck be on your side. A huge thank you to everyone around the club, the board, sponsors, members, players, coaches, trainers, boot studders and supporters. If everyone contributes a bit, it adds up to a beautiful thing. Once again good luck to all of our players today. We are proud off you for making the Grand Final and we know you will give everything that you have got to achieve the ultimate prize. Gerry Kelly – President - Cranbourne FNC

Presidents Message Narre Warren

Beaconsfield

We head to Edwin Flack today with two football teams and two netball teams in the grand final.

Well I would firstly like to congratulate our young guys who today will be rewarded for all of their hard work throughout the year

It is a great reward for all our club people and their tireless efforts over the years and in many previous years. As a club we have had tough year on and off the field however we have all stuck together and hopefully you get to enjoy cheering our teams on today. We thank all of our sponsors for their generous support including our Major Sponsors Jay Q Plastering and Berwick Mazda. We thank the team at the SEFNL, Haydn, Dave Nagel, Ryan and the SEFNL board. We thank John Anderson and the team at the AFL South East for their assistance during 2018. We wish the umpires all the best for today and thank them for their efforts during the year. In my view the standard of umpiring this year is the best we have seen. Thanks to Nick Creely and the team at the Pakenham Gazette, Kain, Doc and the guys at Casey Radio 97.7, Dan, Plugger, Glenn and The Coach at Game Face for the outstanding coverage they give our League. It is greatly appreciated and helps raise the profile and standard of our league.

To have the opportunity to play in a grand final is a great achievement and a great reward for dedication and commitment. Today our guys will represent our great club, hopefully on to victory, however as a club we are exceptionally proud of them all no matter the result. There are some guys who may not get their chance, but it’s about the bigger picture, it’s club and team work that everyone has contributed to today that allows this opportunity to arise for all and everyone should feel proud of their achievements and contribution Luke Young and the coaching team have yet again done a tremendous job and have had a great year, so hopefully for the entire team today it can go to script and deliver the results. This day will allow you to reflect on what you all contributed to in years to come so do your best, represent yourselves your families and friends and more importantly our club Beaconsfield today with pride. In what will be our last game in the SEFNL competition, it brings a close to numerous partnerships rivalries and relationships and it closes a disappointing chapter in our competitions history.

Back to today, playing our best footy at the business end of the season gives us real premiership opportunities in the Seniors and Reserves. Our B Grade and Under-17 White netball teams have also had fantastic years and we hope they can bring home wins today.

Hopefully the next few years will see us stabilise, in a challenging vibrant competition, that will reinvigorate participation and increase spectators and supporters.

Good luck to Matt, Whispy, Michelle, Jayde and Glenn with their respective teams.

On behalf of the Beaconsfield Football Club we would like to close by thanking all the SEFNL clubs and thank you to AFL Outer East for providing a new chapter that we can be part of and very proud of.

Win, lose or draw we are immensely proud of all our coaches, players, trainers and team support staff, including trainers for dedication through the season. To all players, bring your best today and we can look forward to celebrating with the Narre faithful at Fox Road tonight.

Good luck to all the clubs on your own chapters and new journeys into 2019 and beyond.

Umpires As all teams celebrate making grand finals, the umpires have also been nervously awaiting the announcements of the 2018 Grand Final Umpire Appointments. Grand Finals are something to be celebrated and on Wednesday 5 September the Southern Umpires Association (SUA) supported the announcement of 2018 Grand Final appointments with a special Grand Final Appointments and Life Members Night held at the Kananook training base. Congratulations to all umpires appointed across the nine grand finals. AFL South East along with the Southern Umpires Association are proud of all the umpires that will take to the field to represent the umpiring group.

We would also like to thank all umpires that have umpired throughout the 2018 season. Umpiring can be a tough job at times but is also thoroughly rewarding with the friendships made on the training track and through being involved with matches each weekend. With that we also are looking for new umpires to join our ranks in 2019. For more information on what’s involved and how to sign up contact AFL South East Regional Director of Umpiring Carl Fletcher at umpiring@aflse.com.au

Netball Preview - Tooradin v Cranbourne Seagulls and Eagles to write the final chapter By David Nagel A great final chapter of SEFNL netball is about to be told when Tooradin-Dalmore and Cranbourne meet in the 2018 A Grade grand final at Edwin Flack Reserve. The Seagulls, who battled for years before claiming last year’s premiership cup, take on the indestructible Eagles who have tread an incredible path through this year’s finals series. Both clubs are heading in different directions next year, so this will be the last time we see the highway neighbours collide in the foreseeable future. Cranbourne has come from the clouds to make it through to the biggest game of the season, finishing fourth and taking the initial first step against Doveton in the elimination final. Most would have expected the run to finish there, but wins over Narre Warren and Beaconsfield have propelled the Eagles into the spotlight. Last week’s win against Beaconsfield was simply incredible, with Cranbourne opening up a big lead before Beaconsfield fought back hard. Cranbourne weathered the storm, finding something special in the dying stages of the match to claim a memorable victory. But what’s next – was that their grand final played a week early? Is this a team that has already surpassed expectations and ready for a tough day at the office, or does Donna Wilson and her group have one more special effort left in them? They certainly have some star quality! Tara Cecil could well be the best and most decorated player to have played in the 14-year history of the competition, winning her fourth league best and fairest award on Monday night.

Can loyal Tooradin star Alex Duff shoot the Seagulls a winning score?

32

Cranbourne skipper Nat Sparks has led her side brilliantly through a stunning finals campaign. The athletic Cecil and Allie Oakenfull hold the key to Cranbourne’s defence, and their battle with Tooradin goalers Alex Maher and Alex Duff will go a long way towards deciding the final destination of this year’s premiership cup. The midcourt battle will also be a beauty, with Eagles’ Kayla Wilson, Steph Ryan and skipper Nat Sparks taking on the silky skills of Jess Cox, Emma Iacovou and Jess Maher. Cox proved herself a big-game player last year, winning the best on court medal, and will need to be guarded closely by the Eagles this afternoon. Tahlia Coates and Tegan Stahl are likely to be given the goal-scoring duties for the Eagles, with Seagulls’ Bec Kinna and Ebony Dolan trying to thwart their every move. So who wins and why? Kelly Andrews has done a magnificent job of keeping the Seagulls hungry, after a first A Grade premiership success in 10 years against Narre Warren this time 12 months ago. The Seagulls have depth to burn with Tara Smith, Sara Duncan, Shona Wells, Holly Gillespie and Rachel Cole all more than capable of filling the void if needed this weekend. The Seagulls are a powerful unit, who move the ball swiftly and sacrifice for each other like no other team in the competition. Cranbourne, well what a story after almost missing finals just four weeks ago. Wilson has built a spirit that overcome any hurdle, such as the loss of key players that has impacted her side this year. They’ve been oh so brave the Eagles, but this very good Tooradin-Dalmore team is just one win away from becoming great. Only great teams go back-to-back – and the Seagulls will, ending their SEFNL journey with a 12-goal premiership victory.

CRANBOURNE

It is an exciting time for the Cranbourne Netball Club as we have four teams playing off today in the grand final. This is a tremendous achievement for all four teams and a rewarding time for the club. Both our Under 15’s team have worked hard throughout the year and will give it their all come game time. Our Under 17’s Red have been undefeated throughout the home and away season and will work hard to come away with another win. The A Grade girls have really given it their all throughout the finals series in close thrilling games. It is also the first time since 2003 that we have had an A Grade side in the grand final.

34

To the girls, if you win or lose take in every moment and celebrate the ultimate rewards of being in grand final, an opportunity that doesn’t come along often and should be grasped with two hands. To these teams, their coaches, support staff, supporters, committee and sponsors congratulations on the tremendous effort by all on this amazing achievement. Good luck to all teams today!! Doveton netball is excited about the move to a new league next year and look forward to the new friendships to be made with the other teams competing in the Yarra Ranges league. Good luck to all teams competing in today’s grand final. Cass Hackett – President – Doveton Netball

NARRE WARREN

To say I am proud of what the Club has achieved this year would be a huge understatement. The delays in the building of the new club rooms made home games challenging but also proved just how resilient our volunteers are and really showed the true Narre spirit. The commencement of the 2018 season saw new faces in both coaching and teams and as a club we are thrilled with the way our members have adapted to change and conducted themselves on and off the court. Again this is not possible without the right people assisting and we thank everyone who has volunteered thorough out the year, congratulate our teams and celebrate the successes. We are proud of all the players who represented NWFNC at the Awards Night and acknowledge all Award Recipients.

Andrews and Cecil add to their legend By Nicholas Creely – Pakenham Gazette Premierships and league best and fairest medals seem to go hand in hand for Berwick star Madi Andrews. The Wickers skipper will be hoping he can make it three from three after claiming the Norm Walker Medal at the South East Football Netball League presentation evening on Monday at the Cranbourne Racecourse. Andrews – who is certain to return for the grand final on Saturday against Narre Warren after being injured the last month – took out the SEFNL’s top honour for the third time, just edging out Magpies legend Michael Collins by a single vote. Ironically, Andrews won the medal in 2015 and the Wickers went on to claim a premiership, and then last year, the champ achieved the very same feat. Andrews played 15 home and away matches this season, and despite a slow start to the year, managed to claim the maximum votes on four occasions, finishing on 20 votes. His gut-running and incredible ability to win the football was on show for all to see in 2018, and as he slowly warmed into the season, Andrews once again proved his standing as the best player in the competition. His best on ground performances came in Round 4, 10, 13 and 14, and also polled votes in Round 1, 2, 8, 9 and 11. Travis Tuck (17 votes), Ryan Jones (15) and Bryce Rutherford (13) rounded out the top five in the count. Berwick president Glenn Gambetta accepted the award on his superstar’s behalf, with Andrews unable to attend the awards. Andrews told the Gazette on Tuesday that he is humbled to win the award for the third time. “I was a bit shocked – I thought there was probably a few of my mates at Berwick that had better years, but it’s a great honour,” he said. “It was a bit of a disrupted year, I popped my shoulder out a few times, but I’m proud of the season.” While Andrews acknowledges the incredible achievement of winning a third Norm Walker Medal, winning a premiership on Saturday with his mates is the only thing that matters. “I’m definitely proud of it (winning the medal) – but for me, I only play footy for three reasons, to play footy with my mates, have fun and to win premierships,” he said. “A few things went wrong this year, but as a group, we’re relentless, and it’s how we have got through this year.” Andrews also confirmed that he will take his place in the grand final after missing almost a month with injury. He said he can’t wait to get out there and lead his team. “I probably could have played a bit earlier, but there was a risk of re-doing the injury,” he said. “I’ve been working extremely hard in rehab, and I’m ready to go.” Another star of the competition to be recognised for his achievements was Cranbourne legend Marc Holt, with the league celebrating his years of service and his 1000th goal as an Eagle, which was crossed in 2018.

With Holt also unable to attend the presentation evening, Cranbourne football director Manny Vella spoke about the impact the lion-hearted spearhead has had on the competition, praising his loyalty, consistency and impact on community football in the region. Other major football awards on the night went to Doveton youngster Mitch Cotter, who capped his team of the year selection with the MVP award, while Hayden McLardy and Nick Russo shared the reserves best and fairest award and Max Sheppard – the under 19 leading goal kicker – took out the top gong in the Under 19s. In the A Grade netball league best and fairest, there was a three-way tie, with Cranbourne star Tara Cecil, Beaconsfield’s Danielle Cameron and Tooradin-Dalmore’s Jess Cox sharing the award on 16 votes. Cecil – who now has four medals next to her name – told the crowd she wasn’t expecting to once again be crowned the winner. “I went away to Europe for four weeks, so I didn’t really expect to win it,” she said. But she wanted to thank her club for their support over a number of years. “It’s a lot of the girls I’ve played with over the years, a lot of them are the same girls,” she said. “They bring me up each game – I’d like to thank everyone from the Cranbourne Football and Netball Club, everything they do is amazing, and my amazing team.” Cameron was also awarded for an unbelievably consistent season for the Eagles, and deservingly shared the medal, while Cox – who was unable to attend on the night – was a colossal for the reigning A Grade premier, and will be a key player in the grand final on Saturday.
