Four teams made up of the best Victorian AFL wheelchair talent gathered at Casey Stadium last month to compete for the first Victorian AFL Wheelchair title. After a tough round-robin competition, it was the Saints and Magpies who qualified for the inaugural Grand Final. With the lead changing multiple times throughout the decider, it was the Saints who took home the silverware in a tight seven-point win. The final score was 6.6 (42) to 5.5 (35). Originating through the Australian Defence Force as a way for rehabilitating service men and women to remain involved in sport, AFL wheelchair is an adapted version of our national game that provides people with a physical disability the opportunity to play Australian Rules football. With recent growth in the sport, the Victorian AFL Wheelchair Championships is the first state-wide tournament to help support the player pathway into the national competition that occurs annually in different states across the country. I Can Feel It In My Fingers… I feel it in my fingers…I feel it in my toes…oh…oh…oh yeah…Finals are all around us…And so the feeling grows And just like that the grass all of a sudden looks greener. The sun seems to have an added glow about it. And any sign of cloud coverage, let alone torrential rain, has disappeared in the blink of an eye. Somehow, someway it always happens like that. No matter how extreme the winter is everything comes together the minute that finals feeling rolls around.
You gave your promise to me, and I gave mine to you…I need someone beside me…in everything I do…oh yes I do But with that comes the beauty of the football itself. There’s nothing quite like finals footy. That thing you spend all year working so hard towards. And for some it’s not just the past year. Sometimes it’s the culmination of many years of hard slog at the lower end of the pecking order.
You know I love you…I always will…My mind’s made up by the way that I feel…There’s no beginning…There’ll be no end…cause on my love you can depend...
The Future Is Here… The future can look like many things depending on which way it’s assessed. The future can be nerving, exciting, undefined and downright scary all at the same time. That’s a serious emotional wave there. Regularly we consider the future to be exactly there…in the future. Something that we think about but never really consider approaching. Yet the future isn’t just where we think it to be. It’s actually here. Right here, right now. The next word of this article that you read is actually in the future from the word you’re reading now. All of a sudden those nerving, exciting, scary feelings that the future causes are on top of you. That’s right…the future is here…the future is now. And that’s exactly what presents the SUA and the whole footballing community on the Peninsula this weekend.

The young stars of the future will strut their stuff this weekend in an exciting finale of games down at Hastings on Sunday. This season has been an absolute blast in the juniors with many new and enthusiastic faces taking up the challenge of learning and developing their whistle blowing and decision making in MPJFL footy. And credit must go to their application as many have also made the step into the senior ranks. With the changing of the guard in the senior ranks the sniffs of opportunity were too hard to ignore. However, the enthusiasm surrounding the SUA junior program would not be possible with the unwavering commitment from second year Junior Coordinator Scott Gathercole and the Rye Football Club. Scott came in with experience in coaching Auskick down the Peninsula and his ability to get the best out of our young future stars has been evident. The relationship developed with the Rye Football Club has enabled the SUA to set up a junior base at Rye to further expand our demographic. And while we regularly get caught up in the competitive wave of footy it is always nice to step back and see the lighter more sentimental side. Season 2016 has seen 3 father-son combinations take the whistle and no doubt it won’t be long until young son is teaching dad a few little tricks to keep his aging body ticking along. So get down to Hastings this Sunday and catch a glimpse of the next wave of whistle blowing stars and Scotty and his team close the curtains and celebrate a wonderful 2017 junior season.

1ST SEMI – FINAL REVIEW NARRE WARREN 18.8.116 DEF BEACONSFIELD 9.9.63 Goalkickers - Narre Warren - A.Wilson 5, J.Richardson, N.Scanlon, L.Cody 2, J.Sorocynski, S.Scanlon, H.Stagg, M.Collins, T.Papworth, D.Jackson and J.Wheeler 1. Beaconsfield - T.McDermott 4, T.Aust 2, B.Dowler, R.Verbi and M.Misso 1 Game Analysis 1st Quarter - The wet and heavy conditions didn’t stop Narre Warren from jumping out of the gates well. Beacy Captain Scott Meyer started up forward with minimal impact before moving into the ruck against the undersized Trent Papworth. The Magpies completely dominated The Eagles early on and Beaconsfield had no answer to the onslaught. Narre kicked three goals in the first 15-minutes of play while holding Beaconsfield completely scoreless. Beau Dowler was looking dangerous for The Eagles as he kicked their first before The Magpies tall timber Jake Richardson and Aaron Wilson combined for the next four goals in a seven to one-goal romp. Whatever was said before the match worked as Narre led by 38 points. 2nd Quarter - The second quarter was a lot more of an even contest. With Meyer’s dominance in the ruck nullified Narre went about their business trying to extend their lead even further. Papworth rotated forward with immediate results kicking his first goal and extending their lead out to 44 points. Beaconsfield’s leading Goalkicker Troy McDermott kicked The Eagles second before Wilson kicked his third for the first-half the margin was extended back out to beyond 40 points. McDermott kicked his second before young Eagle Riley Verbi kicked his first the margin was reduced to five-goals at the main change. 3rd Quarter - The tricky weather conditions continued as we saw rain and win followed by sunshine and rainbows. It was important for Beaconsfield to start the second half well but it was Narre through Luke Cody to strike first and put the result beyond doubt early in the third quarter. McDermott was battling hard and kicked his third as The Eagles had their opportunities to get themselves back into the contest but failed to convert on the scoreboard. Michael Misso and Troy Aust kicked unanswered goals to provide The Eagles supporters some hope of a comeback. Two late goals to Luke Cody and Nick Scanlan had the momentum back with Narre as they led by 31 points at the final change. 4th Quarter - Narre Warren club legend Michael Collins kicked the first goal of the final term to put a dagger into Beacy’s heart. McDermott and Aust converted goals to reduce the margin down to 24 points The Eagles mini revival was short lived as The Magpies gained the ascendancy and completely outplayed their opposition. Narre kicked five goals in 12 minutes including the last two to Wilson who finished with a bag of five to re-establish their premiership credentials winning the match 53 points setting up a mouth-watering Preliminary Final against Cranbourne

Cranbourne - M.Holt 2, B.Wapshott, Z.Roscoe, M.Fletcher and K.Dickson 1. Game Analysis 1st Quarter - In windy conditions Cranbourne won the toss elected to kick with the breeze but failed to capitalise in front of goal. Marc Holt kicked the first goal as it looked like The Eagles were up and about but The Wickers had a game plan and worked themselves into the contest. Berwick were working hard around the clearances and blocked the corridor forcing Cranbourne wide when with the footy in hand. Goals to Bryce Rutherford and James Harrison had the 2015 premiers back in front. Brandon Wapshott kicked a nice goal against the run of play to give Cranbourne a three point lead at the first break. 2nd Quarter - Berwick were quick to find their feet in the second term and continued to control the midfield battle. Cranbourne played right into their hands by continually trying to move the ball along the outside wing. Harry Money marked and goaled which gave The Wickers the lead which they never surrendered. Ash Smith kicked a long range goal for Berwick to really take a hold of the ascendancy. Cranbourne had opportunities to score through Holt but missed at crucial times. Madi Andrews broke free to kick Berwick out to a 16-point lead halfway through the second term. The game became quite scrappy due to the pressure at the footy in trying conditions. Money kicked his second goal for the quarter and extended the Wickers lead to 22 points while Cranbourne were held goalless against the breeze. 3rd Quarter - The first goal was going to be crucial and it came after a towering mark from Berwick big man Jarrod Kemperman there were some worrying signs for the reigning premiers as The Eagles were trailing by 28 points. Holt kicked his second to breathe some life into the contest but Berwick were outworking them in the contest. James Magner and Michael Harold did a mountain of the grunt work sapping Cranbourne of any forward play. Lucas Jellyman-Turner kicked a great goal on the run which put a dagger through The Eagles hearts as the lead grew towards five goals again. Zak Roscoe bobbed up and kicked his first from a nice snap to reduce the margin to 22-points with a quarter to go. 4th Quarter - Cranbourne attacked the contest with new vigour taking the game on and challenged Berwick who were looking for their 17th consecutive win for the season. Matt Fletcher and Kirk Dickson foaled early, Dickson making up for an easy miss in the third term. The Eagles reduced the margin to only 10-points and it was game on. With emotions high the game became tight with each contest came unrelenting pressure. With the game in the balance Berwick managed to hold the play up forward of centre wing, until Smith kicked his second breaking the hearts of Cranbourne as the Wickers ran out victorious by 17 points.

Round 14 - Narre Warren 8.9.57 def Cranbourne 4.14.38 Recent Finals 2016 Qualifying Final - Cranbourne 12.12.84 def Narre Warren 8.6.54 2013 Semi Finals - Narre Warren 20.11.131 def Cranbourne 6.7.43 2013 Grand Final - Narre Warren 14.16.100 def Cranbourne 15.9.99 What Cranbourne need to do to win.. Cranbourne are your perennial big game performers. Their experienced core know how to get the job done when it’s required in finals. Cranbourne showed in the second half of the Qualifying Final when they play with full intensity they can really dominate Narre Warren. The Eagles defence have restricted the league leading Goalkicker Nick Scanlan to only 2 goals from 3 games but need to be wary of the inform Aaron Wilson who kicked four first half goals and looked dangerous. It will be interesting to see if Coach Simon Goosey decides to play dangerous small forward Khaled Kandakji who after kicking 35 goals during the season is yet to play a final. Cranbourne will need to brush off last week’s disappointment and go back to playing the Cranbourne way we have become accustomed too. Cranbourne are well drilled and will be hoping talented big man Michael Boland can flourish in the ruck feeding the likes of Max Gearon, Matt Fletcher and Ryan Davey. Cranbourne will need to be clean with their disposal eliminating turnovers and help with the fluent ball movement to their forwards. The Eagles can’t be Marc Holt-centric and will need to get goals from their midfield to kick a winning score. What Narre Warren need to do to win.. Narre should take a lot of confidence from last weekend’s win in the cutthroat semi-final against Beaconsfield. The Magpies have been in great form for the past two months of
8
9
SEFNL | FOOTBALL
football, taking away their miserable second-half in the Qualifying Final. Coach Heath Black made some tough decisions at the selection table bringing in some extra pace to provide the outside run they have been desperate for. Narre have a potent attack and when supplied with enough football they appear dangerous. Nick Scanlan and Aaron Wilson have combined for 100 goals this season, averaging more than five-goals a game, if they fire it will carry Narre towards victory. The inclusion of Trent Papworth added a different dimension in the ruck and The Magpies will be hoping their other big man Jake Richardson can present up the ground putting pressure on the Cranbourne defence. Breaking down the Cranbourne back six and finding avenues to goal will be the key for Narre Warren and close the five-goal gap from a fortnight ago. Narre have some prime-movers and it will be Heath Black’s objective to get the ball in their hands as much as possible The Final Say There is no truer statement in football then - A week is a long time in football. At half-time of the Qualifying Final it looked like a Narre Warren had it all at their feet until a scintillating display from Cranbourne saw them roar back into the contest keeping their rival goalless and winning the match by five-goals. A week on Cranbourne fell to the undefeated Berwick while Narre were too strong for Beaconsfield now they meet again fighting for their spot in this year’s grand final. Both coaches will be hoping to apply the final touches to their best 22 to get them through to the big dance. Narre Warren Coach Heath Black made some tough decisions at the selection table which seemed to have provided them the nucleus to get them the win against Beaconsfield. Will Narre adopt a similar game plan that worked on aggression and quick fluent ball movement to supply their potent forwards or will they look for some bigger bodies to bash and crash. Cranbourne have had their doubters all season but continue to prove them wrong time and time again. The Eagles were hurt last week but not broken and know their best football will take them a long way. Cranbourne are looking at their seventh consecutive grand final which has produced two premierships. The Eagles know how to get the job done on the big stage, that experience should put them in good stead once again for this year’s preliminary final. Cranbourne by 17 points.

We have made the big one for the third year in a row which is a good achievment on its own. We do know though there is still a lot of hard work to go.
All clubs and all supporters invited to come along. Join us for breakfast and hysterically funny entertainment with the “Suburban Footballer” Tickets on sale now – First in basis - 8.00am – 10.00am Grand Final Day – Saturday 16th September.
The reserves were extremly unlucky to go down by a point after controlling most of the game. The second chances was on offer due to the geat season you had and is well deserved. Good Luck today.
Tickets are $40 each and include a cooked breakfast, fruit platter, juice, tea & coffee and entertainment. Tickets on sale now – full details on Website: beaconsfieldfc.teamapp.com Facebook: Beaconsfield Senior Football Club
The under 19s nenevr gave up in the first semi but unfortunately went down by a couple of guys. What is important though is for you to remember you are still an integral part of the Berwick Football Club. Make sure you get up there on Thursday and support the reserves and seniors.

Mixed results again for us last week as we had two losses and a win. The seniors played Saturday in the 2nd Semi Final against Berwick. In a match that would hopefully take us to a 7th straight Grand Final, we stared the game off well and at 1/4 time found ourselves up by a couple of points. By 1/2 time Berwick had asserted its authority and went in at the main break to lead by 22 points. Kicking with the aid of a slight breeze in the 3rd quarter we had to make our mark and in a seesawing stanza, we failed to make any ground to remain 22 points behind at the final change. The boys were going have to extract something special and that they did to bring the margin back to 10 points with plenty of time left. Berwick however steadied to hold on to win by 17 points but our guys made a statement that we can still be hard to beat if we make it to the big day. Best were Micky, Dill Bass, Waters, Zak, Yoz and Cav. We look forward to the challenge against Narre this week for another crack at Berwick.
out as Berwick stacked on three goals in 10 minutes to throw the contest wide open. We did however manage to take some control of the game and with a late goal to Aiden Gajanovic, we were safely through to the Preliminary Final against Beaconsfield. Best in a good win were Keeno, Coops, Stewy, Haz, Tom and Russo.
The reserves team headed down to Berwick last weekend in typical Melbourne weather to take on Beaconsfield. With the ledger one all during the year the doves dominated all game in a low scoring affair.
Good luck to all this week as we aim to have two footy and three netball teams compete on the final day of the season.
Jake Nicholson was sensational in the ruck, Sean “Bull” Semmens dominated, Sammy Muirhead played well all game, and Sean K was staunch down back.
Congratulations also go to our guys and girls who have been invited to SEFNL Presentation Night. The club is extremely proud of you all.
Our boys are chomping at the bit to have another crack at Berwick this weekend down at Pakenham in the preliminary final. With the doves looking stronger than ever, can they pull off the win of the season and secure themselves a spot in the grand final.
Go Eagles
Our Under 19B’s kicked off a cold wet morning at Berwick on Sunday as we faced off to Narre Warren. Narre jumped us early but their inaccuracy kept us in the game. By 1/2 time we were down by one goal and right in the contest. In a thriller of a game that we never managed to hit the front, it came down to the final play of the day as we couldn’t find a way past Narre to go down by the barest of margins. The boys were gallant in defeat, showing a never die attitude and the improvement through the season is a testament to Pete Jonson and the team. Well done to the boys on a terrific season where they stood by what was a difficult first half of the season. Best on Sunday were Sheldon, Harks, Brendan, Johno, Dish and Hayden Bower.
Lets all get behind them and support. Well done to Chris and the boys - the club is extremely proud of you all. With one netball straight into the grand final already this season, 3 more to play for a grand final spot this weekend – we can say it’s been nothing but a strong successful season down at the Doves. Go Doves #doveylove Please remember to purchase your presentation night tickets online via the link on facebook. They are selling fast and we only have 150 for sale.
Our 19As went in as favourites against the reigning premiers and at 1/4 time there was nothing in it. By 1/2 time we had a lead by a couple of goals but the game was far from over as Berwick hung on as the slog became tougher. By 3/4 time, our lead had drifted out to 22 points and the boys were confident this was going to be their day. Too confident it turned

It was a successful semi-final weekend on the footy field for Narre last week. We won our way directly into two grand finals (Under 19A and Reserves), while our Seniors and Under 19B live to fight another day in Prelims this week, after gutsy victories in their cut-throat semis.
and pump it down the corridor into Narre’s forward fifty. A late tackle, resulted in a downfield free to Narre and an after-the-siren shot at goal by Mitchy Cowan. The resultant behind was enough to book us a ticket in the big dance; and a week off to freshen up. Well done boys.
In last Sunday’s Herald Sun there was a great article regarding our club and the important part volunteer’s play. Please log into heraldsun.com.au/ bestoffground and vote for Brad “Joffa” Alexander or Miss Holly Booth to show your support. Competition closes
Under 19A – Narre and Beacy have been the benchmark all season in a high-standard Under 19A comp. The second-semi saw these two evenly matched sides chock-full of some of the best local young footy talent in the district.
Seniors – Narre’s Ones opened up a six-goal lead at the first change with Stewie Scanlon and Aaron Wilson up and about early; Trent Papworth and Collo were providing drive in the middle; Jordy Flannery and Andrew Hunter were leading a solid defensive structure. We play our best footy when we take the game on like that. Beacy came at us in the second and third terms but were playing catch-up footy against 22 fullycommitted Narre jumpers. After taking their best shot on the chin, we finished with a six-goal final quarter and will go into this week’s encounter against Cranny with our tails up and our confidence high. Wilson was outstanding with five of his own, while our ability to find ten other individual goalkickers helped the cause greatly. Joel Zietsman again played with poise and maturity beyond his years. Reserves – Our top-of-the-ladder Twos faced Berwick who had previously pushed us to within a kick in each of two encounters this season. In windy conditions another low-scoring, arm wrestle was always on the cards. It was pressure-packed, it was scrappy, it was ugly - but it was enthralling to watch. Only a kick separated the combatants all day. With a minute remaining, a clever switch in Narre’s back half saw Micky Milo gather the ball in open space
With the prize a grand final berth, it was Narre who held their poise in the early pressure periods this time around, then opened up with a full-on assault of sublime footy. We gained the advantage early, with strong defence against the breeze then built a four-goal lead by half time. Our awesome hard-running teamwork against the wind in the third term set up this win. Jack Flannery (6 goals), Jack Toner, Clayton Taylor and big Barney were instrumental in the result. Under 19B – As if our Reserves’ one-point win the previous day wasn’t enough for the Narre supporters’ nerves, the Under 19B ‘sudden death’ semi against Cranbourne B last Sunday was also decided by the smallest margin. A close game in very windy conditions came down to the last minute when Cranbourne had an opportunity to seal the win with a late shot at goal which was smothered brilliantly by Tommy “twinkle toes” Collard. It missed and Narre held on for the win to keep our season alive. Mark Bartuccio and Brandon Hogan led from the front; Reid Jenkin and Collard worked hard for the Magpies, and Bailey Wardle was our only multiple goalkicker. The boys take on Officer today and you can bet they’ll wear the black and white with pride and give a great account of themselves as they always do.

2ND SEMI-FINAL
1ST SEMI-FINAL
NARRE WARREN 28 LOST TO TOORADIN-DALMORE 43
BEACONSFIELD 31 LOST TO CRANBOURNE 33
Tooradin rocketed out of the blocks and had Narre Warren on the back foot in a blistering display which shocked their fancied rivals. Tough uncompromising netball was the theme of the day as The Seagulls defence led by Jess Maher and Bec Kinna restricted The Magpies to only three goals while their attack got them out to an impressive 10 goal lead at quartertime. Jess Cox was on fire under the ring shooting nine goals while getting plenty of supply from a dominant midcourt led by Sara Duncan and Emma Iacovou on the wings. Narre swung the changes in the second term Tayla Shannon and Gabby Dwyer swapped positions in attack with immediate results. The Magpies midcourt fought hard to get them back into the contest. Britt Mashado and Leigh Taylor started to win possession and fed Shannon who scored nine second quarter goals to reduce the margin to seven at the main break. Tooradin Coach Kelly Haynes moved their inspirational leader Shona Wells into the middle to provide a spark in the second half. The Seagulls dominated the third quarter and put a stop to any Magpies comeback winning the quarter 12 goals to five and providing them a certain victory leading by 14-goals going into the last quarter. The sterling victory providing Tooradin with their first grand final appearance since 2006 and what shapes as an amazing turnaround for a club on their knees three seasons ago.

PRELIMINARY FINAL NARRE WARREN V CRANBOURNE 2017 Matches Round 8 - Cranbourne 44 lost to Narre 46
The 1st Semi-Final provided one of the matches of the season as the Eagles took centre court. With a spot in the preliminary final up for grabs both teams set out to control the match early but found it difficult to break away. Teams were level at 11-goals apiece after the first team as both sides battled to gain the ascendancy. Beacy started to look good through the middle with Rylee Nelson having an impact in the centre while their wings Ash Gill and Kate Murphy helped Beacy nudged a head through the second taking a one goal at the main change. The third term was a titanic battle as neither team were willing to give an inch. Beacy won the scoreboard battle six goals to three and led by four goals going into the last stanza. For one side their season would be finished and which team was going to step-up in the heat of battle to secure the win. Cranbourne Coach Donna Wilson had to find something and moved sharpshooter Alanah Hardy in the shooter position and Hardy played one of her best quarters in her career. Cranbourne Captain Steph Ryan led the resurgence with support on the wings from Nat Sparks and Tegan Stahl while their trusted defence Sharni Lambden and Tara Cecil created plenty of pressure and capitalised on any Beaconsfield errors. After trailing by four goals Hardy was unstoppable putting up 10 last quarter goals to help draw level then pass Beacy in a ferocious final few minutes. Cranbourne showed some real spirit as they have all season winning emphatically by two-goals and advancing through to the preliminary final.
SEFNL | NETBALL
Round 14 - Narre 51 def Cranbourne 29 Cranbourne have taken all before them during the 2017 finals series, after finishing fifth after the home and away season. The Eagles had an up and down season which includes consecutive drawn matches but they have never lost focused, defeating both Doveton and Beaconsfield to reach the preliminary final. It seems Cranbourne are reaching their peak at the business end of the season and the return of their captain Steph Ryan from injury was the injection they needed to compete with the best sides in the competition. Narre Warren have been in great form all season, their run of 14 consecutive wins had them finish on top of the SEFNL ladder. Ladder position means nothing now after Narre were beaten in the second semifinal going down to their nemesis Tooradin by 15 goals. It will be interesting to see how quickly The Magpies can recover after the loss and re-group and tackle the up and about Eagles. Momentum can be hard to stop and it’s spread from confidence and Cranbourne are oozing confidence after fighting out an impressive win against Beaconsfield, Can they carry that momentum through to knock over their third opponent in three weeks? Narre won both games during the year, defeating Cranbourne by two goals in their first encounter and dominated at home winning by 22 goals back in Round 14. Cranbourne have shown plenty during the second half of the season and were also the first team to break the high-flying Seagulls winning streak

earlier in the season. The Eagles have the tools to defeat Narre Warren if they can play at a consistent high level over the four quarters. Shani Lambden and Tara Cecil have formed one of the strongest defences in the competition. Lambden and Cecil won’t have it their own way as they tackle Narre’s dynamic duo Tayla Shannon and Gabby Dwyer in attack. Shannon and Dwyer can switch positions around the ring and have shown they can put up big numbers if given the opportunity. Britt Mashado from Narre will look to control the midcourt battle against Ryan, Ryan has quickly found her feet after a long layoff due to injury in the later part of the season. Mashado has continued to rise as a player to watch as she will look to bring in Leigh Taylor and Erin Clark on the wings for support. Nat Sparks has had an outstanding season on the wings for Cranbourne this season and will be up to the task of going one-on-one against Clark. Can Alanah Hardy produce again for The Eagles? Her final quarter heroics help Cranbourne come from behind and snatch the win against Beaconsfield in the semi-final. The Magpies defence will have a tough time of it trying to eliminate the influence of Hardy and will be hoping their midcourt can dominate most of the possession restricting The Eagles forward play. 2017 has seen a wonderful finals series and this game will be no exception. The experience in big matches will give Narre Warren the slight edge. Cranbourne have delivered for Coach Wilson during the finals can they do it one more time? All the questions will be answered at 2.45 on Saturday. Narre’s class edge to provide the win in a close one by five goals.

B Grade took to the court at Toomuc Reserve to take on Narre Warren in a Semi Final. With an extra week to prepare for this important game, the girls played some great netball to claim victory and a birth in the SEFNL Grand Final. Defence was key as Beaconsfield confused the space and ran hard with their opposition. As we have another week off to prepare for the biggest game of all, it will be important for us to continue to refine our combinations and game play.
For Totally Great Value contact us at sales@twwknox.com.au sales@twwberwick.com.au
C grade came up against Narre Warren in the Semi Final at Pakenham. The game was a very tight contest till half time with scores level, but the second half saw Narre pull away and prove why they are the top of the ladder team, and take the 29 v 43 win. We need to make sure that we go out there for four quarters and understand that finals netball requires us to be committed all game. Luckily we have another week to play and try and turn the result around! D Grade - We were up against tough opponents in Narre Warren for our Semi Final this week. l felt Narre Warren were more efficient with their ball movement and applied great pressure through the mid court. Our defence was very good and we showed some good passages of play. Unfortunately coming away with a 16 goal loss we are hoping to bounce back this week in the Preliminary Final against Doveton. 17 Red - So incredibly proud of the entire teams efforts, having to battle with the trying weather conditions made for an extremely close last quarter. The girls never gave up and managed to fight hard and come away with the win, we live to see another week of finals. 17 White - The girls were extremely excited to start their finals campaign this week! Narre Warren came out hard and put the pressure on Beacy from the first whistle. With the Beacy crowd behind them, the girls worked together and settled across the game and put together some lovely pieces of play to take the win. What a fantastic season they have had so far.... Go Beacy! 15 White versed Berwick in the Semi Final and had a 12 v 19 loss in very wet conditions. We just couldn’t get our game going with a lot of elements against us, but we managed to finish strong. Thank you all for the season, it’s been a roller coaster with major injuries hitting the team but we stood united through it all. Thank you to our wonderful Team Manager Fran, all the parents for your support and the Under 13’s for helping us out when called upon. We are looking forward to seeing you all develop so much more in the future with your netball! 13 White - Finals pressure was evident for both teams. There was a lot of pressure & tightly contested netball. Both Beacy & ROC had plenty of turnovers, but it was Beacy who made
21

the most of them in the end. The Beacy girls achieved a three goal buffer at the end of the first quarter and kept at it for the remainder of the game. Beacy’s flexibility with positional changes and stamina in the second half saw the final score 20-14. Top job to all players after a physical contest and well deserved Grand Final spot. Go Beacy! Congratulations to our B grade, U17 White & U13 White teams for going straight through to the Grand Final!! Best of luck to our C & D Grade & U17 Red teams who battle it out this week in the Preliminary Finals to earn a spot in the Grand Final also!! #gobeacy
berwick WOW, what a final series the BNC juniors are having, Preliminary Final week see’s 3 teams remaining. Saturday saw 13 Reds take on undefeated ROC. Certainly not deterant to this young group when they took court and their A Game along with them. Clashes through the season saw ROC take both wins, Rnd 8 by 15 goals and Rnd 17 by 11 goals. Semi Final 2, our girls shortened this to 6 goals, although throughout the game it was goal for goal and a nail biter for all. Janelle and her team certainly held strong through all and not once dropped their heads. This week we play TooradinDalmore at Pakenham who we beat convincingly in the QF by 13 goals. Good luck girls, you’ve got this, the club are right there cheering your every move.
goals, Chantelle Rudolph and Joyce Ojay were out to prove their worth in this final, while Amy Davies and Tiarna Green showed their maturity and strength in the mid court against some very tough opponents. The Magpies put up a huge fight during the entire game, but just couldn’t catch the #wickers on the day. These young ladies, as we said last week, showed determination and composure throughout the entire game. The girls managed to take home the win by 7 goals and gained their spot in the Preliminary Final against Doveton next week.
An outstanding weekend of netball last week. We kicked off the weekend with our 15 White team playing on Saturday for the chance to go straight into the Grand final. An awesome display of determination and keeping focus, an exciting finish defeating ROC for the first time this season winning by 1 goal. They have the week off this week and will play the Grand final next weekend. Good luck girls. Sunday we had 2 of our junior teams and 3 of our senior team playing their semi-finals.
We encourage all supporters to make their way down to Pakenham and get behind these young #wickers. A reminder that both Senior & Junior Presentation’s are fast approaching, don’t forget to get your tickets via the club.
Our 17 Red’s battled it out against Beacy in a game that could have gone either way. An amazing game where every girl played their hearts out and showed great team spirit. The end result was a 1 goal loss for our girls.
Sunday’s Semi’s at home. Mel Guic and 13 Whites, started the day brilliantly down by 3 at the first break. A huge crowd supporting these young superstars, showed they were not going see a large lead. Going into the last saw an even scoreboard of 14 all. With winds getting stronger these youngsters held their ground throughout the game and were not letting the pressure of finals netball affect their game. Goal for goal which made for very exciting plays across the court. Delylah Loulanting and Adam Snelling, using every piece of energy they had in them, were pivotal in creating turnovers for the team and providing numerous scoring oppurtunities. At the final siren it was an 18 all scoreboard, bringing the game into over time. Unfortunately, Pakenham got away with 3 goals in the 1st 2 minutes, leaving the young #wickers to play catch up in the last 2 extra minutes. The end scoreline was 23-18 getting Pakenham into the Prelim next week. The club are so proud of what Mel gained with this team over this season. An incredible effort to all involved. Well done.
In another close game, our 17 White team played a great game but just couldn’t get the upper hand in the last quarter. They went down by 2 goals. D Grade had a tough game coming up against Doveton. A close first half where the scores were close but Doveton proved to be too strong and pulled away in the second half and we just didn’t get the opportunity to catch up. Final score was 24-39. C grade took on Tooradin with the results during the season showing these two teams always have close games it was as promised an exciting and fast paced game. Right up until the final whistle it could have gone either way. In the last few minutes we had some fantastic turnovers, great pressure from our defence and wonderful composure from the
2 more finals on Sunday saw both 15’s teams take court in Semi’s at home. 15 Whites took on Beaconsfield, which was always going to be a grudge match. In blistering winds and non stop rain Bridget Arthurson, started her team the same way as the previous week, which proved to be a strong decision. Having a sense of belief and faith in her coaching, they took to the court and had a 4 goal lead at the 1st break. Keeping that lead the entire game, with minimal changes on court through out the weather conditions. Another wonderful display of team work and dedication paid off with the girls taking the win by 6 goals and gaining them a place in the Preliminary Final against ROC next week. Leanne Walford and her 15 Reds had a massive battle on court all year against Narre, with only 2 and 1 goal margins in it all season. All players took to the court with composure and a huge desire to win. The rain and wind, which made for tough conditions, certainly didn’t effect these young guns in their game plays. Jumping out to a very quick start with their

shooters resulting in a 1 goal for our girls. They will take on Beacy in the Preliminary final this week which is sure to be another epic game for our C grade team. A Grade. Fantastic come back by the girls. Not one person gave up and all fought hard for the full 4 quarters. The support and belief you have in each other came through in the end. A six goal turn around in the last quarter resulting in a 2 goal win against Beacy. 33-31 Good luck to all team playing in Preliminary finals this week. GO EAGLES!!
U15’s red faced a very skilful, tall and talented ROC side last Saturday. ROC blew the game out early and we up by 7 at quarter time. The doves soon regained some ground but we still making small silly mistakes. It was then goal for goal for the next 3 quarters. In the last quarter, we made some costly mistakes which saw ROC win by goals. Was still such a great game to watch. We face Berwick this week in our last ditch chance to make the big dance? Lets reward all of our hard work this season ladies.
B Grade – congratulations for making it as far as what you did this season. A lot of positives to take away from the year but just fell short of the results we were after. Unlucky ladies and we hope to see you all back out in the green and black next season. With one team straight through to the grand final already, and 3 facing off this weekend for their last chance at the big dance…let’s get behind all doves teams this weekend! Go Doves #doveylove
U17’s red faced Narre Warren last weekend who finished in top spot. Our girls come off the blocks early and looked to control the game from the first quarter. We moved well, we defended even better and it was all rewarded with a win and a spot in the big dance! Well done to Jason and his all stars! U17’s White – Well done on a very tight and hard game girls. The conditions were very ordinary and not really netball weather but you all played your part considering and came out 1 goal winners. Good luck next week ladies. D Grade – Last weekend faced Cranbourne who came off a massive first finals win, but we had some ground to make up. At the first break, we were 3 goals up but we allowed Cranbourne to come back into the game. With us only up by a few heading into the last – we knew we had to turn it on in the last quarter and that we did. We wanted it more, we moved quicker and we attacked the ball harder – coming away with a 6 goal win!! Good luck this weekend ladies!

Semi Final week brought about a mixed bag of results for Narre Warren. C and D Grade locked in their spots in their respective grand finals, with convincing wins. A and B grade and our two 17s side all have another opportunity for a golden ticket, but will need to produce the goods in their upcoming preliminary finals. Our 13s and 15s lost their Semi Finals, bringing their season to an end. Thank you to coaches, Amy and Michelle and Team Managers, Natalia and Kim who have supported our young girls all season.
play to their strengths to earn their spot in the Grand Final and get another chance at Beaconsfield.
13 Red: Narre Warren 22 lost to Tooradin 29
Four NWFNC netball teams progress to Week Three of Finals and our Black and White Army will need to be in full voice to help our teams earn their golden tickets to the BIG DANCE and join C and D Grade.
Our youngest netballers worked tirelessly for four quarters but couldn’t chase down Tooradin’s early lead they created in the first quarter. We wish Annie a speedy recovery with her broken arm. 15 Red: Narre Warren 26 lost to Berwick 33 As the 15s began, the heavens opened. The girls gave it their all for four quarters but couldn’t match their taller opponents. 17 White: Narre Warren lost to Beaconsfield This match was a tight contest for the first half before Beaconsfield took control in the second half to run out convincing winners. Another chance in the Preliminary Final! 17 Red: Narre Warren lost to Doveton Determined to improve on their last encounter, the 17 Red girls fought hard to combat their strong, physical opponents. Missed opportunities and forced errors didn’t allow Narre to gain control at any stage of the game – back to the drawing board for another chance in the Prelim! D Grade: Narre Warren 39 def Beaconsfield 24
A Grade: Narre Warren 28 lost to Tooradin 43 In an uncharacteristic performance, A grade were outscored 13 – 3 in the first term. Despite trying everything to combat the determined Tooradin outfit, Narre Warren fell short and will have to defeat Cranbourne in the Preliminary Final for a chance at back to back to back Premierships.
13 RED SEMI FINAL:
15 RED SEMI FINAL
A huge congratulations 13 Red on a hard fought and closely contested semi-final win cementing our place in the 13 Red SEFNL GRAND FINAL.
Absolute heart stopper of game by the U15 Red
After two weeks of consecutive byes, it took some time to find our feet and settle into playing smart and controlled netball. So proud of all nine players for playing their individual and team roles and always displaying our team values on and off court with honours.
Congratulations to the 17 netballers invited to the SEFNL Awards Night! Good luck, NWFNC is very proud of you! Well done to Holly and Joffa, who have been nominated in the SWISSE Best Off Ground Volunteer Competition. We are lucky to have hard working, passionate volunteers like you! Vote at heraldsun.com.au/bestoffground for these two champs!
Let’s continue to build and grow and embrace the exciting grand final preparations at training.

Having worked so hard all year at trainings and on game days, the girls knew this was the first of two very big challenges! Nerves were high and it was important that we look after the ball and reward ourselves as opportunities arose. With simple mistakes getting the better of us at times it was a gutsy effort by all 10 players to fight till the end and come away with a magical 1 goal win! We have some obstacles to overcome in the next few weeks which will make this finals series one to remember - now for the fairytale finish.....bring on GRAND FINAL DAY!!! Red đ&#x;’™
What a fantastic weekend of competitive netball witnessed with the SEFNL finals. Our club enjoyed hosting the Semi Finals on Saturday and are looking forward to providing a warm welcome to all clubs participating in the Preliminary finals. The club is so extremely proud of the efforts of Coach Hayley Melsen and each and every one of our brilliant young players that make up our U13 White team. What a thrilling game of netball to watch against Berwick and then going into extra time and winning by 5 to earn your spot in the Preliminary finals against ROC. You have the total support of everyone from our club behind you and we can’t wait to cheer you on loud and proud at home… .#PLNCROAR#GO PAKY!! Fantastic effort by the PFC U19s team to book a spot in the Grand Final with their win on Saturday against Officer. Congratulations to Meaghan Winter, Leah Mibus and Romi Esler from everyone at the club on your SEFNL Presentation night invitation, so very proud of you! Wishing everyone a great day of netball at Pakenham for the Preliminary finals.

What an exciting finals round we had last weekend, kicking off Saturday with a huge win for our A grade girls and sending them straight to the grand final! As expected our seagulls were going in under dogs after a poor performance against ladder leaders Narre Warren in the last round. We had every confidence going in that our girls were capable of taking the win and to our delight they came out firing from the first whistle and did not relent until the final whistle! In what was an incredible display of netball for all spectators we saw all players focused and working for all 60 minutes of play to record a 15 goal victory and send them straight to the grand final!
NETBALL TRIALS Junior Trials Saturday 21st & 28th October 2017
Our last A grade premiership was in 2006 and we haven’t managed to play another one since. The 2006 team was captained by club legend Shona Wells (also current captain) who was unable to play due to being a bridesmaid on the same day! We can not be more thrilled for “Captain Shona” to have the opportunity to play in an A grade grand final and hope the girls can bring that champagne netball again on the day.
Players to be considered must attend both trials and only apologies with doctor’s certificates or exceptional circumstances will be accepted.

let Cranbourne get the jump in the first quarter to take a five goal lead, setting us up to play catch up for the remainder of the match. To the girls credit they managed to decrease the margin and set up a nail biting finish going down by only one goal! It has been a pleasure watching this team improve over the season and we can’t wait to see what they can achieve next season. A special mention to Jayne DaRose and Shannon Williams who both announced their retirements after the game. Although being at the club a short time these ladies have been huge contributors on the court and we are all sad to see them hang up the dress. In our last match for the weekend we saw B grade take on Doveton in a game that saw our seagulls display the kind of netball we all know they had in them. After a few disappointing losses we saw the girls come out and control the game from the outset to take a 12 goal victory! Anything is possible for this team when they put their mind to it and this victory was proof of that. We look forward to watching them tackle Narre Warren for the third time in a month! Lastly thank you to all who have come out to support our juniors and seniors. It is fantastic to see and hear so many seagull supporters helping get the girls over the line each week. Go Seagulls!
