So this is it! The day where the 2017 Premiers are decided by the best teams on the day. A great weekend of football and netball was had at Pakenham. Again, we saw some great games which decided the final teams who are now playing in the SEFNL Grand Finals. Thank you to the volunteers from Pakenham who hosted us last weekend and who ensured cars were parked safely. Thank you to all the Beaconsfield volunteers who are hosting us today. Medal and trophy presentations will be made after each game on oval 2. Please move quickly from the main oval and courts to ensure the next game gets away on time. The Australian National Anthem will be sung by Christina Keen prior to the Seniors and A Grade games. The SEFNL Berwick Motor Group Finals Series is one of the largest community events in the South East Region, where we get to showcase the fabulous talent in this region in a safe, family-friendly atmosphere. We have been really happy with the spectator behaviour for the first three weeks and look forward to another fantastic day to close off our year.
To ensure that everyone has a safe and enjoyable time, there will be members of the Victoria Police at the games, as well as private security guards. Cars and bags will be searched to ensure that alcohol is not brought into the ground. Wet and dry areas are in force today, so please ensure if you are consuming alcohol that you are in the defined wet areas. Booze buses will operate outside the venues. For the enjoyment of all, anyone displaying unsocial behaviour towards players, officials, umpires or other spectators may be asked to leave. Overflow parking is available in Perc Allison Reserve and Akoonah Park, with both within a short walk to Holm Park Reserve. We would like to thank all SEFNL Partners and the Southern Umpires Association for your support throughout the year, Casey Radio, Pakenham Gazette, Team Staffing, DML Security, Victoria Police, Christina Keen and all our host clubs for making the SEFNL BMG Finals Series a success. Thank you to all players, officials, volunteers and spectators for your support throughout the year. We wish all our clubs the best for the Grand Final.

2017 WorkSafe AFL Victoria Country Grand Final Message There is nothing better in Victorian country football, than Grand Final action in September. After a grueling pre-season and tough home and away rounds, spring has arrived and with it comes a sense of optimism that today your team is on the cusp of making history on the most important day of the football calendar. Regardless of whether you’re a player, coach, umpire or supporter with your hopes hinging on the premiership decider, or just an interested onlooker, Grand Final day is always an occasion to savour. I would like to wish all teams who are competing today the best of luck and I hope win, lose or draw, you continue to be involved in country football in 2018 and beyond. While I’m certain there have been many highlights on the field this season, off it, much has been achieved. The introduction of the Community Club Sustainability Program’s Player Payment Framework (PPF) was rolled out across Victoria for its inaugural season. Complementing the Player Points System introduced last year, the PPF will assist in helping narrow the gap over time between high and low spending clubs in order to assist with the rise of escalating player payments in community football.
Proud sponsor of country footy for over a decade.
This year we have seen significant growth in the number of females participating in community football. Thank you for your support of the growth in female football. It has been great to see so many females being welcomed into their local community club and we look forward to seeing the continued growth of female football in the future. Representative football was once again a feature for many this season, with Victoria Country taking on the Victorian Amateur Football Association at Frankston Oval. The Energy Safe Under 19s Vic Country squad kept its Big V winning streak alive after narrowly defeating the VAFA by four points, while the

WorkSafe AFL Vic Country squad, led by country football product and AFL great Danny Frawley, was unable to overcome their metro counterparts, going down by 82 points in the Brian Molony Cup. In addition, the Big V jumper was worn proudly by a host of country Victoria’s top footballers, including the best Under 18 male and female talent in the 2017 NAB AFL and AFLW U18 Championships as well as Vic Country’s best footballers with an intellectual disability in the 2017 AFL National Inclusion Carnival. Arguably one of the biggest highlights on the country football calendar this season was the 2017 WorkSafe Community Championships held in May. For the first time, the top ranked community football leagues went head-to-head at the MCG as a curtain raise to the AFL Country Game between Geelong and Essendon. Season 2017 saw thirty metropolitan and country leagues take part in the carnival across the state, with the Geelong FL edging out Mornington Peninsula Nepean FL by 24-points to be crowned Victoria’s number-one ranked community football competition. Season 2017 also saw the return of the highly successful WorkSafe Games of the Month. Champion footballers Peter Knights, David Parkin and Brent Harvey as well as current AFL stars Bryce Gibbs, Maverick Weller and Ben Brown, embraced the country football atmosphere at eight destinations across the state in a bid to promote farm safety in some of Victoria’s smallest communities. Finally, as the curtain closes on season 2017, I would like to thank the countless club and league volunteers that are the backbone of country football. Without your support our great game just wouldn’t be possible. I hope you have a safe and happy offseason and return just as passionate in 2018. South East FNL Senior Grand Final Umpires FIELD UMPIRES Joey Thorpe An electrician by trade, Joey has had a very full umpiring career to date. Success at SUA flanking a stint up town at the VFL, this will be his 4th Senior Grand Final appearance and 3rd South East final dance (lucky it’s not an actual dance) in the past 4 years. Known as a laid-back larrikin in the South East umpiring circles, Joey still finds the time to explore and respect his spiritual self. The South East lad will have all his lightbulbs switched on and spark plugs in for what will be a cracker. Brett Klimisch So, what happens if the AFL scrap the bounce? That’s the question the coaching panel have been asking recently after watching this young man in action. We may never know how strong Brett greatest asset may have been. Brett is definitely renowned as the coolest kid on the track out at the South East training base with his collection of training snap backs. Having been at SUA for the past 4 years, this passionate North Melbourne supporter (explains why he’s had so much time to dedicate to umpiring) will run out in his maiden Senior Grand Final having sat on the pine for last year’s. Jack Cannon And yes, he shot into umpiring like a ball out of a cannon. This young whippet was destined to have a big future in umpiring the minute he graced a junior field. Having been involved in numerous umpiring programs and representative appointments, Jack makes his debut Senior Grand Final appearance. A laid back but on the ball young man who’s also very smooth with the ladies, this 17 year old has an enormous umpiring future awaiting him. And that’s probably just not at local level.
WEEKDAYS 6-9AM
BOUNDARY UMPIRES Kyle Van Raay Kyle is in his first year with the SUA. Kyle joined us by chance this year as we were short at the start of round one and needed an extra number. Kyle very quickly allowed his obvious talent to shine through and in his debut season is making his debut Senior Grand Final appearance. He has an incredible future ahead of him and has already umpired grand finals at junior level and winning Boundary Umpire of the Year at junior level in 2016.

white line Ben has made a progressive climb through the umpiring ranks since beginning on the boundary with South East Juniors 5 years again. The feeling of his first Grand Final on the boundary in the 2013 U16s with some close friends and a bumper crowd will continue to stick with him as he chases greater opportunities. 2014’s U17 and 2015’s Reserves Grand Finals gave Ben the perfect platform to build his senior umpiring career on and this marks his 2nd consecutive South East Senior Grand appearance. Also an accomplished hurdler, Ben competed in National Competitions in Sydney and Perth in 2014, 2015 and this year. Zachary Mousaco Zac is also in his first year with the SUA and in what is becoming a South East trend will appear in his maiden Senior Grand Final. He has already proven to be the ultimate professional and has applied himself incredibly this year. Zac barely misses a training session and has no doubt learnt a lot in his first year. With a start like this to his umpiring career, Zac will only continue to grow as time goes on. He certainly has a bright future ahead of him with his professionalism.
GOAL UMPIRES Scott Gathercole Mr SUA Juniors himself. Scotty has over the past several years put his own umpiring achievements on the backburner in order to lead the SUA junior umpiring program with a plumb. The success of SUA future owes much to his hard work with all up and coming young whipper snappers. But this year, Scott has flown past the field. Needless to say, much swifter than his trotters. He returns for his 2nd Senior Grand Final having also been lucky enough to be involved in the International Cup this year as well. Ivan Robinson For the silent and diminutive achiever one questions whether his abilities were once even overlooked at jockey school. A vouch for the saying that good thing come in small packages, Ivan not only lets his own goal umpiring talk in volumes but also provides a great mentor to the younger members of the squad. Ivan backs up this year with his 3rd consecutive Senior Grand Final appearance and 2nd in 3 years at South East. Just remember Ivan, the best view of the game is when sitting on your behind...
DRAWN FINALS In the event of scores being level at the elapsed time, the timekeepers are instructed to sound the siren. No spectators or officials are permitted to enter the field. The field umpires then instructs both teams to stay on the ground whilst the scores are confirmed with the goal umpires. On confirmation that the scores are level, the match shall recommence with the teams kicking to the same end as in the final quarter, and two five minute periods, with time on, except for U18s, shall be played with teams exchanging ends after the first five minute period, immediately after the sire sounds. In the event of scores being level after the initial two five minute periods, a further two five minute period will be played with clubs exchanging ends after the first five minute period. This process shall continue until there is a result. Coaches are not permitted to address players at any stage after the three-quarter time interval, until a result has been reached.

FOOTBALL PRELIMINARY FINAL REVIEW CRANBOURNE 9.10.64 LOST TO NARRE WARREN 17.10.112 Goalkickers - Cranbourne M.Holt 3, R.Jones 2, K.Dickson, L.Bee-Hugo, D.Bass and S.Marusic 1. Narre Warren - A.Wilson 4, D.Kelly, M.Collins, L.Cody, J.Richardson 2, J.Soroczynski, J.Tonna, D.Quirk, S.Scanlon and D.Gawley 1. Game Analysis 1st Quarter - Bang Bang BANG!! Narre were explosive with ominous signs early for Cranbourne as they had no answer to the Narre Warren onslaught. The Magpies kicked six unanswered goals within the first 13 minutes of play. The Narre midfield was running rampant and enjoying the wide-open spaces of Toomuc Reserve. Michael Collins was everywhere for The Magpies in a scintillating start to the match. Luke Bee-Hugo worked hard to kick Cranbourne’s first goal after 20 minutes before Collins burst on to the scene again with a long-range goal to ensure the underdogs carried the momentum into the first break. Some experts had Collins’s impact at 17 possessions and two goals not a bad return from the battle-hardened campaigner as Narre led by 38 points. 2nd Quarter - People coming to the match were expecting a fierce contest and if it was to be a one-sided affair it would be in the hands of The Eagles. With many still in shock after 7 goals to one first quarter we didn’t know what to expect. When Dean Kelly drifted forward and converted those signs lifted from ominous too dangerous as Cranbourne weren’t working hard enough to get themselves back into the contest. The second quarter was a lot more even with the damage already done on the scoreboard the question was how would Cranbourne respond? Well they didn’t even give a yelp as Narre continued to outclass and outwork their opposition at the contest, a trademark of Cranbourne’s dominance in recent years. Ryan Jones went forward for Cranbourne and provided a spark but once again Narre Warren found a way to strike back and Aaron Wilson kicked his second for the half the margin the margin was at 43 at halftime. 3rd Quarter – Cranbourne needed to start the second half well to get back into the contest, but as we saw in the second it was Kelly who converted the first goal and the margin was 49 points within a minute of the third quarter commencing. The Eagles fought back with Kirk Dickson and Marc Holt both scoring goals, it was the first-time Cranbourne kicked back-to-back goals. Just when you had the feeling that the Eagles were working themselves back into the contest, Narre found a way to respond again. The Magpies kicked the next three goals for the quarter and enjoyed a 59-point buffer going into the final quarter. 4th Quarter – Cranbourne Coach Simon Goosey was without any tricks left up the sleeve. Marc Holt worked hard to kick the first goal of the last quarter. The spark was short-lived as Narre once again found space inside forward-50 too easily due to the great supply from their midfield. Goals to Kelly kicking three for the match, while Wilson brought up his fourth for the afternoon the result was looking ugly for Cranbourne. Holt goaled again before a brain fade saw the talented forward sent from the ground in an off the play incident. With the result in the bag the pressure dropped out the contest Cranbourne kicked the last three goals of the match to add some respectability to the score line eventually going down by 48 points.

5 Things Berwick need to do to win.. Stick to what works - You don’t get through a season undefeated without doing the things right most of time. Berwick have an even spread of talent across each line and these players are now experienced finals performers. Don’t get rattled early - Narre came out all guns blazing against Cranbourne last week and the reigning premiers couldn’t get themselves back into contest. The Wickers should expect physicality and if Narre strike early don’t panic, stick to what works to win a grand final it’s a marathon made up of moments. Win the clearance battle - Trent Papworth has battled hard to negate the influence of talented big men Michael Boland and Scott Meyer is successive weekends. James Magner, Michael Harold and league Best and Fairest winner Madi Andrews provide Berwick with plenty of options around the contest. If these three can do the grunt work it will go a long way to ensure their second premiership in three years. Don’t become arrogant - If The Wickers find themselves in a winnable position early in the match make sure they respect the Magpies. You don’t want to show some arrogance towards the opposition to fire them up into the contest. Narre are known for playing better when their backs are against the wall. Allow Rutherford time forward - The league MVP Rutherford can be a dangerous weapon forward and is a difficult match for most opposition defences. Look for Rutherford to rotate inside forward 50, he could be used if The Wickers find themselves desperate for a goal. 5 things Narre need to do to win... Convert early opportunities - Narre can often shoot themselves in the foot with inaccurate kicking in front of goals. Kicking a behind and not finishing the hard work up the ground which created the scoring opportunity can be deflating for any side. Berwick won’t provide many opportunities to score so they need to take the most of everyone. Stick to the game plan - Sometimes it becomes difficult to execute a game plan when under immense pressure from the opposition. Narre have been well drilled over the past eight weeks and understand what effort is required to complete their task. Some teams when under pressure revert to old habits, Berwick are deadly on the rebound and can be
SEFNL | FOOTBALL
10
Give Aaron Wilson space to do his thing - The new look forward structure has been producing some big scores over the past fortnight. Wilson kicked a season-high eight goals against Hampton Park but shown he is a forward to watch. Wilson is blessed with great agility and poise for a man of his height, Wilson has kicked 13 goals during the finals as he proves to be one of Narre Warren’s most important players. Make Berwick’s floating defence accountable - Berwick’s dominance starts with their defence. Dylan Quirk has spent more time forward in a defensive role, but they may need to work on their forward line defence. Narre will need to maintain their forward structures to prevent Michael Riseley and Co picking off the easy ball. Narre may look to change things up forward with a more defensive style forward setup hoping Wilson and the Scanlon brothers can kick a winning score Finish at least even in the contested footy stats - It sounds cliché but it will be the major difference between making history and failure. Narre have been here on the big stage many times but for majority of the group it’s new territory with only a few remaining from the flag in 2013. Michael Collins dominated the first quarter against Cranbourne many of his disposals coming from hard work at the contest. Narre have a hardnosed edge in the midfield who will need the starstudded Berwick midfield, if Narre can get on top it will push them towards their seventh premiership in 12 years. Match Winners Madi Andrews - Berwick – The spiritual leader and 2-time league best and fairest winner Andrews continues to lead The Wickers charge week in and week out. Andrews is a ball magnet and is often found working his hardest at the bottom of the packs. Andrews can be a real barometer for his team’s success if Andrews is getting plenty of the pill Berwick are usually winning. Andrews doesn’t have the same flair as some of his teammates, his kicking efficiency wouldn’t be as high either but he can be a match winner with his determination and grit to get to contest after contest. Andrews attacks the football with shear velocity and his courageousness helps others in his team play at a higher level. Look for Andrews to be at his damaging best around the contest bringing his outside runners into the game, or he could drift forward and kick the goal to give his side the momentum. Michael Collins – Narre Warren – The Five-Time premiership player has been one the league premier midfielders’ year after year. Just when you think the game is going past the
11
SEFNL | FOOTBALL
great marvel, he rises again. Collins has been in fantastic form once again during the final series, Collins was at his inspiring best when the game was on the line in the preliminary final. Collins had 17 first quarter possessions and kicked two long goals as The Magpies got the jump on the arch rival Cranbourne. Grand Finals don’t come every season and with Collins getting towards the end of his glorious career he will be more desperate than ever to ensure he gets to raise the cup once more for the Narre Warren faithful. Collins still has versatility and knows when to impose himself on the contest expect him to have another big game to add his impressive tally of brilliant individual performances. Final Say This could be a head thinks one way and heart says another. Narre have been the underdog all final series after going down to Cranbourne in the Qualifying Final. Narre Warren’s dynasty was built on a ‘Us v’s Them’ mentality and carried them through for 5 successful attempts at premiership glory. Since 1995 no team has been as successful as The Magpies, they’re the big game performers. Michael Collins and Nick Scanlon are gunning for their sixth premiership at the club which is a wonderful achievement. In their way are the new kids on the block, Berwick haven’t had the same success as their cross-city rivals but have been building a formidable football side in recent years. The Berwick hierarchy bite the bullet and recruited some genuine talent into the club. In the three years since they recruited Michael Riseley, Michael Johnson and AFL listed Ash Smith into the fold they have been a dominant force, including going through undefeated this season. There are no truer statements then good football sides start off with strong defences and Berwick have overwhelmed their opposition this season with their unrelenting pressure at the footy. Many people expected Berwick to drop off a little from last season, under first year Coach Stewart Kemperman and due to the fact, they lost so much potency in attack. Kemperman has been a breath of fresh air and having a fit Brodie Connelly has helped ease the pain of not having a key spearhead in attack. Berwick look more dynamic going forward without the huge score lines, the Wickers now relies on an even spread in the forward half to kick a winning score. Berwick have defeated Narre Warren eight of the past nine contests including three in finals but I expect this contest to go deep into the final quarter but Berwick will have the class edge getting up by around three goals. Berwick by 17 points.

Again the Berwick Football Club finds itself fortunate enough to be playing on the biggest day of the year in both the Reserves and Seniors. It is recognition of the efforts of not just the current players, coaches and committee but also those of the last 5+ years. It was this group who developed a strategy that centred on getting Berwick players back to Berwick coupled with retaining and developing our Juniors. The level of talent at the club coupled with the quality of the kids coming through is testament to their vision and strong working relationship with the Berwick Junior FC. One of the challenges the club does face though is ensuring the Berwick Junior FC continues to remain strong considering the fact it looks after 500 children with insufficient grounds and facilities. The Senior club will continue to support the committee of the junior football club in its push to re-locate to a new facility. The greatest challenge for not only Berwick but football in the area is that of Divisional Football. Much has been written on the topic but with AFLSE having locked in a decision let’s hope we head into 2018 and beyond with a stable platform for all clubs to remain competitive. Finally, to the sponsors, supporters, players, coaches and committee, a personal thank you for what you bring to the Berwick Football Club. Yes, we do have a quality team but more importantly we have quality people. It has been an absolute pleasure to have worked alongside you through the 2017 season and I look forward to you all being part of 2018. To the players and coaches. All the very best for today. You are a talented bunch and deserve all the success that comes your way. GO WICKERS
Narre Warren President We head to Holm Park today with 3 football teams and 6 netball teams in the grand final. It is a great reward for all our club people and their tireless efforts over this year and many previous years.

Thanks to Dave Nagel at the Pakenham Gazette and the team at Casey Radio for the outstanding coverage they give our League, it is greatly appreciated. Back to today, playing our best footy at the business end of the season has found Narre with real premiership opportunities in three football grades ,which we hope to make the most of. Our fantastic netballers have also delivered again, overcoming injuries and an increasingly strong competition to also feature in six grannies. Thanks to Heath, Greg & Jade for your outstanding leadership of our club and the professionalism you bring.

After the tough outcome of last years grand final result this year is all about turning the tables and reaping the rewards of hard work. With a new direction in coaching and playing strategies the team have become stronger more resilient and are now ready for the big game. After an absolute nail bitter last week against Cranbourne the boys will use their nerves of Steele and be better for this knowing that they can handle themselves under immense pressure The team were fantastically lead by their Captains Dan and Scotty who were both instrumental in their leadership and we will see the same approach in the grand final vs Narre Warren this week As a club we are immensely proud of the boys achieving this great opportunity and to end the season as minor premiers is only part of delivering the final goals for 2017. We have loads of talent in this team and everyone will need to contribute to make the day a success however it is a team effort that will win on the day

To our coaches and team managers well done on a great effort now lets finish it off and do everyone proud good luck to our boys on your achievements this year now is time to finish it off and celebrate a great year lets go Beacy !!
Great win to the Reserves last week to get them into the Grand Final and another crack at the un-defeated Narre Warren. You did it the hard way with 10 behinds kicked in a row. Regardless you are there and it is fantastic to have both Reserves and Seniors there.
Harry Money won mark of the year (he had 2 nominations) and Reece Piper goal of the year. James McClean won the under 19a Goal Kicking whilst Jayden Graham, Bryce and Tom Hillard BOTH finished top 4 in the League B&F for their respective grades.
Awards Night during the week saw our Skipper Madi Andrews win the league B&F for a second time. Well Deserved Bryce Rutherford also received the award for MVP as voted by all the opposition coaches. Again a great effort and well deserved. Bryce also finished top 4 in the league count. We had 6 players named in the Team of the Year with our own Stew Kemperman named as coach. Well done to you all.
Having said that I know everyone of these guys would hand back their individual accolades to be part of a winning team on this Grand Final Day Congrats to the Netball Club for winning Bset Conducted Club Good luck to everyone and GO WICKERS

this season. Our recent history would point to another dour, defensive contest, but as we know Grand Finals can throw up unexpected scenarios.
Aaron Wilson’s strong lead-up marking has been a revelation for Narre since his transfer from VFL side Port Melbourne mid-season, and we again found goals through multiple channels from all parts of the ground to build, and then maintain our advantage. This victory will instil the self-belief in our playing group that we will need to challenge Berwick today, and we know you’ll all give us your very best. Well done to our close-knit playing group, our coach Heath Black and his support staff – let’s bring it home!
Under 19A – Narre will take on Beaconsfield for the third time in four weeks due to the quirks of the A and B split in the Under 19s division. These two star-studded line-ups are bound to put on a showcase of skilful, hard and exciting footy. Regardless of the result today both clubs can anticipate several of these young players to be the strength of a bright future for our football clubs over the next few years.
Reserves – A win today would see Narre’s Twos complete the season as undefeated premiers and champions, but we respect that Berwick has only been a kick behind us in all three head-to-head encounters
www.sneakycheese.com.au 1 Old Princes Highway, Beaconsfield
Seniors – For the second successive week of our 2017 finals campaign, Narre’s Ones opened up a six-goal lead by quarter time, and dared our old foe Cranbourne to chase it down. Our midfield won some crucial clearances early, and it was halfway through the first quarter before Cranbourne made any serious assault into its own forward half. In the meantime Narre quickly accumulated what proved to be a match-winning lead - with Luke Cody (2 early goals) elusive up forward, and Collo also kicking two booming long goals to remind us all why he is universally regarded as Narre’s finest.

Well done to our Reserves coach Paul ‘Wispy’ Hamilton, skipper Mitch Cowan and all the boys. Narre’s depth is its strength and that means there are a few who have missed out on selection – but we recognise the contribution of every player in the squad that have helped give us this opportunity. Be a part of it because your hands belong on that cup as much as anyone’s.
Coach Shane ‘Grubbo’ Dwyer – himself a multiple senior premiership champion at Narre - knows about winning finals and has his young charges playing great footy at the business end. This will be a great footy game – Go Narre!
What a fantastic week around the football club, with our under 19s making the 2017 Grand Final. All the hard work on and off the track has culminated in our boys making the big dance and having an opportunity to come away with the Premiership. With many of our players having a taste of Senior Football this year, they have certainly come together as a team, and over the past few weeks, they have been playing fantastic football.

Many players don’t get the chance to play finals, let alone Grand Finals, so the boys should be proud of what they achieved thus far and no matter what the outcome today, the team has been fantastic in 2017. On behalf of all at the football club, we wish all the boys and coach Derrick Browne, all the best in today’s game. Good luck and lets bring home the 2017 Premiership.

PRELIMINARY FINAL NARRE WARREN 42 DEF CRANBOURNE 25 Cranbourne snuck out to an early lead, in front by one goal before Narre Warren’s midfield started to take control. The experienced core led by the likes of Erin Clark and Leigh Taylor helped the Magpies score the last five goals of the quarter to lead 11 to 6. Cranbourne has one of the strongest defences with Team of the Year defenders Tara Cecil and Sharni Lambden having the task of trying to eliminate the influence of the dynamic duo Tayla Shannon and Gabby Dwyer. With the Magpies winning the crucial contests the managed to extend their lead further throughout the middle stages of the contest. The class of Narre rising to the challenge and play a committed

brand of netball. The Magpies had the experience and better structures as Narre put up 19 goals to 14 to lead by 10 goals at the half.
settled into her role as the main distributor for Tooradin with relative ease. Duncan has plenty of experience and netball smarts which will be needed in the heat of the battle during a grand final. Mashado is an experienced player bringing game 200 during the season, Mashado is a hard worker and brings her teammates into every contest. Mashado has been plenty of talent at her disposal and works in well with her wingers to dictate the midcourt battle. Whichever player gets the edge will push their side towards a premiership win.
To the Eagles credit they came out in the third quarter and took it up to their fancied rivals both teams found it hard to score as each defender took over. For their hard work Cranbourne were unable to get back into the contest on the scoreboard as the reigning premiers had an insurmountable 11-goal lead 33 to 22. With the result in the bag Narre were set the task to finish the game off as they started to ensure their spot in the grand final. Narre fed their goalers who finished the match in fine style sharing the load as they score nine goals to three to win by an impressive 17 goals and book their chance to win their third premiership in as many years.
Rebecca Kinna (GD) v Tayla Shannon (GA) – Kinna has been a big part of the Seagulls resurgence this season. Kinna will often line-up against the opposition’s best attacking option. Kinna is very experienced and will be looking to close down the influence of Shannon. Shannon spent the first eight weeks sidelined with an ankle injury but that didn’t limit her impact on the season. There is a good reason why Narre Warren played consistent netball in the second-half of the season and that was due to the influence from Shannon around the shooters ring.

GRAND FINAL TOORADIN V NARRE WARREN 2017 Matches 2nd Semi-Final Tooradin 43 def Narre Warren 28 Round 4 - Tooradin 47 def Narre Warren 43 Round 18 - Narre Warren 51 def Tooradin 33 Narre Warren come into the contest looking for third consecutive premiership while Tooradin are back in the big dance for the first time since 2006. Both teams have dominated the SEFNL with The Seagulls carrying an eight-game winning streak to the start the season which also included a win against The Magpies in Round Four, The Magpies wrestled the top spot away from Tooradin with an impressive 18 goal win to finish off the season. The titans met again in the semi-finals were The Seagulls proved to be too strong in the crucial moments establishing an early lead and dominated The Magpies winning by 15 goals. The teams’ dominance was reflected
Ebony Dolan (WD) v Leigh Taylor (WA) - A real highlight of this contest will be the battles on the wings. Dolan was unlucky to miss out on Team of the Year selections because when she was available she made Tooradin play better. Dolan is a player on the rise and will be looking to lockdown on the dangerous Leigh Taylor. Taylor has had another sensational season leading the Magpies. Taylor is an avenue used to create scoring opportunities for her shooting brigade and you can expect Tooradin and Ebony Dolan to put a lot of time into trying shut down Taylor’s influence over the game. Both girls bring a physical aspect to the game and will be fighting this one out to the finish.
in the recent Team of the Year nominations with the teams combining for four representatives. Each team is blessed with great coaching and structures. As mentioned many times Coach of the Year for the second-time Kelly Andrews has taken Tooradin from the bottom of the ladder in 2015 to premiership contenders this year. It’s taken a lot of hard work off the court and great player management to ensure Tooradin are peaking at the right time of the season. Narre Warren have The Heinrich combination with Jade and her husband Greg who have revolutionised the local netball scene. Narre Warren have risen to top of the SEFNL world as Jade has introduced a new way to approach netball and it’s been a masterstroke. Narre Warren have dominated the A Grade competition in recent years include a 20+ game winning streak which saw the Magpies soar above winning the premierships in 2015 and 2016.
Emma Iacovou (WA) v Erin Clark (WD) – Another enthralling contest will be on the Tooradin attacking wing with the in-form Emma Iacovou taking on their wing defence specialist Erin Clark. Iacovou has grown into her role on the wings for The Seagulls, often used as the link player to get the ball into attack. Iacovou has the great ability of not wasting the ball when in possession. Clark is one of Narre’s gun players, Clark is a fantastic contributor on the court and a leader off it. Clark has been one of the major players in Narre Warren’s recent dominance and will be looking to eliminate her opponents influence over the game. If Clark can win her position it will go a long way to stopping the Tooradin Juggernaut.
Key Match - Ups Sara Duncan (C) v Britt Mashado (C) - Duncan has been a consistent performer all season for Tooradin. Duncan has

defender, given a task each week which she handles with aplomb. Dell never shirks the issue at trying to stop her opponent each week; Dell also has the great ability of turning defence into attack and will be looking to stop the long ball. Maher will be looking to help The Seagulls to get off to a flyer and build the confidence from shooting well early. Maher has had a terrific season which has seen her named as Goal Attack in the Team of the Year which is a wonderful effort considering the talent we have at our disposal in the SEFNL. Dell will have her work cut-out trying to nullify the influence of Maher, but she has the experience in big matches to pull out her best performances. Final Say Will the fairytale continue for either team on Saturday? Narre Warren finished on top of the ladder and is gunning for their third premiership in a row. The Magpies have been on their own journey this season having to pick themselves up twice from positions they hadn’t experienced for a long time. Back-to-Back losses during the season and a loss in the Semi-Final to Tooradin has the reigning premiers digging deep to find their best, it appeared The Magpies returned to form in a ferocious way dispensing of Cranbourne in the Preliminary Final last week. It took Narre 10 years to win their first A Grade flag and they won two both in comprehensive style. Tooradin have been on a two-year journey from the depths of despair as a Netball Club in 2015 to a final last year reaching the finals in the last round of the season to sitting on top of the SEFNL ladder for most of the season and winning the second semi-final in fine style now meeting the same opposition in the grand final two weeks later, the clubs first grand final appearance since they won in 2006. Coach Kelly Andrews deflects a lot of the attention to her hardworking girls, an example of how far this club has grown Shona Wells the 300-game veteran won an award for Volunteer of the Year. The Seagulls should be proud of themselves in the grand final it goes to show you get the right people in place and the players buy into what you’re trying to achieve, a bit of luck helps but the hard work and dedication of Tooradin girls has been top class all season. This shapes as one of the best netball matches we have seen this season. A win for either team wouldn’t shock but a turnaround of 15-goals will be difficult for Narre Warren to match. If there is one team to do it, it would be the team lead by Jade Heinrich. Have Tooradin arrived one year too early and will be better for the experience? If the conditions allow a high tempo game, we should see this game go down to the wire. Tooradin by 3 goals.

Tooradin-Dalmore President What a year it has been for the Tooradin Dalmore Netball Club in 2017. As a club when you start planning the season ahead you set many goals for the club, the teams and the players. Not everything goes to plan and there are always bumps in the road, but I can say with great pride that our club has smashed many of our goals this season and are well on the way to progressing further toward our long term goals. We have had many highlights for the season. Having four teams in the SEFNL finals series. The most we have had for some time. With A, B and C in for the seniors and 13 Red for the juniors we have enjoyed an exciting finals series. We had our 13 White team record their first win in 5 seasons! For me although one win may seem dismal this was one of our biggest achievements for the club after a lot of hard work from all involved. This group went from posting maybe 5 goals for the season last year and took on this season posting scores in double figures most weeks. Our juniors across the board have shown significant improvement in every age group. We have seen some real talent emerge from these girls and we look forward to watching them step it up again in 2018. Of course who could go past today! Having our club represented at the pinnacle of the competition. The A grade grand final. This group have worked extremely hard over the past two seasons under the guidance of coach Kelly Andrews and really deserve to be playing for the flag today. This team is capable of anything and have a fierce team spirit that is second to none, making them an exciting group of netballers to watch. Best of luck to our gulls today, you got this! One thing is for sure at the end of today as a president I will sit back and reflect upon this season with enormous pride in my club and its members and look forward to a bright 2018 ahead, however that may look. “Fly high you mighty seagulls, Tooradin’s the greatest team of all!” Go Seagulls!

berwick C Grade came up against Cranbourne in the Preliminary Final and managed to take the win with a 30 v 15 scoreline. It was a tight tussle early in the game, but we managed to settle and take control with some clear ball movement through the mid court. Our defenders were super strong with nailing every rebound possible so well done to them this week. We are happy to make the Grand Final, but we know we are up against the top team so let’s come prepared for a super battle!
17 Red - Unfortunately the girls were unable to get the desired result. I want to congratulate the team on a fantastic season and thank them for their willingness to learn. It was such a privilege to coach such a talented bunch. It’s exciting to think that the majority of the team were bottom age and I wish Brianna, Emily, Annie and Ebony all the best for seniors. Our senior squad will benefit greatly from having you girls apart of the playing group next season. Bring on season 2018!!
D Grade - Do or die final last week against Doveton at Pakenham, the game had a few lead changes throughout the 4 quarters with Doveton having better control over their ball movement than us, they capitilised on our errors and in the end that was the difference. Even though disappointing to end our season on a low, it has been an absolute pleasure to coach this group. Lets go one step further next year.
~ Massive congratulations to our 4 teams - U13 White, U17 White, C Grade & B Grade - for participating in this week’s Grand Final’s!
Season 2017 reaches its ultimate stage today, as we see our youngs gun take battle on court for the illustrious premiership! The Berwick Netball Club hasn’t had a Junior team in finals/grand final since 2010, so to have our youngest members of BNC put in such an amazing effort this year, is just a glimpse into the future of what our club will be. A big congratulations to our 2 teams, U13 Red & U15 White, on reaching this occasion and reaping all the hard work you have put in this season! Coaches Janelle Snelling & Bridget Arthurson have lead these girls so well and developed them into the amazing players you will all see out on court this week. Win or lose, the club and all of its members could not be more proud that each of these players will be out on court this weekend, and wearing the

Our 15 white team have been training hard over the last 2 weeks and will play in their Grand Final this weekend against Berwick.
U15’s Red: WOW – What a game and what a win!! Berwick applied the pressure all game and at the half time break it was 11 all. By ¾ time we had the lead by 1 goal and the girls agreed, if it was going to be our last game we were going to play our best 10 minutes of netball. Our defensive end applied pressure, went for every single rebound, followed up the passes and worked exactly how they know how! Our midcourt slowed the ball down allowing the goalers to get in position. In the last quarter, our goalers came alive and showed everyone what they are made off. We came away 1 goal winners in front of our family, friends, grandparents and the rest of the Doves Family. The reward was a spot in the grand final! Something we have worked towards the whole season. Good Luck this weekend ladies, do us proud and the big reward will comes! Go Doves!!!
When they have come up against each other during the season there has only been a goal or two in it. We are looking forward to another close and exciting game. GOOD LUCK GIRLS!!
U17 Reds: Well Well Well.
Unfortunately our A grade & C Grade teams lost their preliminary finals last week. It was an amazing effort to get that far.
What a year it has been for the All Stars.. Try outs a lot of New faces. Think we had like 20+ girls. Pre season.
With the 2017 season coming to an end we would to say a big thank you to our Coaches, Committee, Umpires, Court & Gate Supervisors, parents and of course to all our wonderful players.
We went commando. Got down and dirty, and had a great time, lots of fun. Our goal for the year was to improve 1% from last year.. We have worked hard and set team rules. Which most of the time we have stuck to. We have had fun along the way. And won games of netball, which is our team motto, Win and have Fun..
Enjoy your presentation night celebrating the end of a wonderful season with your team mates.

J.B. Believes you can.. J.B. Out!!!!!! D Grade: Holy moley!! To think at one point in the season, we didn’t look like making the finals, to finishing 3rd, to losing the first final, to beating Cranbourne in the elimination to then versing Beacy last weekend for a spot in the Grand Final. We knew exactly what we had to do in order to win. Beacy applied the pressure early, but we knew we had to take it up a few notches. Our defence end, worked so hard all day, whilst our midcourt had a tough run against an aggressive and strong midcourt from Beacy. In the last half, our goalers proved exactly why they are the real deal. Sinking shots from everywhere, running the ring and moving. The results, a 3 goal win and a SPOT IN THE GRANNY!!! This team combined has over 50 years court time in the green and black but not one of us have ever played in a grand final for the doves. Girls, remember you are in this spot for a reason. Its because you never gave up, your fight week in and week out. This is our time to shine! Go Doves #doveylove
Narre Warren was well represented at Pakenham for the Preliminary Finals. The crowd was fantastic supporting our 17s netballers through to the seniors. The day was BLACK and WHITE with both of 17s getting the winning feeling happening with two exciting wins. The positive vibe continued with B Grade winning their golden tickets, followed by A Grade and the Senior footballers to join C Grade, D Grade, and the 19A and Reserves footballers to make it NINE Narre Warren teams playing on Grand Final day. Looking ahead to the Grand Final, we are well represented with SIX netball teams fighting for the Holy Grail. Our two 17 & Under sides have worked together all year and now will be playing their Grand Finals side by side. The 17 Red girls face a tough challenge against Doveton while the 17 White girls will tackle Beaconsfield. Our undefeated C and D Grade sides will be aiming to complete a perfect season. C Grade, take on Beaconsfield for the third season in a row, while D Grade will face Doveton. After defeating Tooradin for the third time in a month, B grade progress to the big one and will face

The big day is finally here. Grand Final day and how proud we are to have our amazing club represented. It has been far too long between drinks so to speak and the whole club are so excited and proud to be a part of this event. Although we only have one team left standing we are so proud to be competing for the A grade premiership today! Last week saw our 13’s Red and B grade make their exit from the finals series. 13’s Red started their game well, but Berwick stepped it up in the second quarter and slowly ran away with the game. Such a huge achievement for this team to make it this far and we look forward to seeing you all back next year to take that next step.

Today though we look forward to watching our A grade girls take on Narre Warren AGAIN! This will be the third time in a month we have competed, but it is only fitting that these two teams are taking the court today after fighting it out for top spot all season.

It is sure to be a hard slog, but we as a club have every confidence that our A grade girls can get over the line. It has been a pleasure this season watching how this group go about it. It is one thing to have a talented group of individuals, but it is team spirit that has gotten this team so far and will get them over the line today.
