AFL South East With finals fast approaching in both SEFNL and the MPNFL it’s worth reflecting for a minute on some of the major onfield achievements of 2018. Individually it’s hard to go past the sensational effort of Cranbourne full-forward Marc Holt, who kicked his 1000th goal for the club against Officer a fortnight ago. Holt, quite rightly, went down media street after his amazing milestone and it was clear to see how much both player and club really do mean to each other. Cranbourne recognised the significance of the occasion and have many angles of the great achievement captured for posterity. Video, newspaper clippings, footy records, the Eagles and their champion full forward will have plenty of great memories to look back on over the years. From a team perspective it’s great that, barring a minor miracle, Officer will play in its first finals series in the 14year history of the Casey Cardinia-South East Football Netball League. The Kangaroos have had some great stalwarts and 300game players over the years, but for champion player Ben Tivendale to finally play finals, after achieving the ultimate with the club in his early years, is a great story to add to many more that have been told since the league began in 2005.

And it’s not SEFNL where clubs are experiencing the rollercoaster ride of football. The curtain will close on season 2018 for seven senior teams in MPNFL Division Two today and each and every one will have a completely different story to tell. Somerville and Rye began their journey with the realistic goal of playing finals this year but will join either Hastings or Langwarrin on the sidelines. Both teams had good patches throughout the season, but injuries to key players, and some close losses, halted their finals’ charge. Devon Meadows and Pearcedale have also had their moments, with both sets of Panthers not that far away from reintroducing themselves to the big stage. Departing coach Glenn Michie has built a solid foundation at Devon Meadows and it will be interesting to see how the club progresses from here. Crib Point’s season highlight came against Devon Meadows in round seven, its only win for the year. But the great story to emerge from the bottom half of the ladder belongs to Tyabb, who today chase their sixth win of the season against Somerville. Tyabb had won just two games in the previous four years, so this is a serious step forward for the club – well done to everyone involved in the progression. Congratulations to those who have achieved their dreams. It’s those great stories that make every season of local football so memorable. AFL South East

AFL Vic Country There is nothing better in Victorian country football, than finals action. After a gruelling pre-season and tough home and away rounds, finals footy has arrived, or is just around the corner, and with it comes a sense of optimism that your team is on the cusp of making history. Some clubs will be looking to build on magnificent recent records, take Berwick, Cranbourne and Narre Warren in the South East, and Frankston YCW and Sorrento in the Mornington Peninsula Nepean Football League Division One for instance. The Wickers, Eagles and Magpies have dominated the last decade of SEFNL, while Sorrento has thoroughly earned its promotion to Division One after a dominant era in the second division, while YCW has made winning premierships look easy.

This finals season, make it your club’s aim to create awareness among players, coaches, members, staff and spectators of the importance of playing the game with good sportsmanship. With thousands of Victorian’s set to be part of community football finals this year, we’re encouraging all football fans to be respectful of each other during football’s most exciting time of the year. Together, we can ensure that win, lose or draw that this finals series is a memorable one for all the right reasons. Please keep an eye out on the AFL Victoria website and social media channels for a listing of all AFL Victoria Country Grand Final details in the coming weeks. Good luck to all competing clubs as they look to add their names into the history books.

The Stonecats have won seven of the last eight flags, including the last five on the trot, to become of the true powerhouse football clubs in country Victoria. On the flipside, clubs like Red Hill, Chelsea, Karingal and Langwarrin are looking to break a recent run of outs and give their long-time supporters something to cheer about. And we encourage everyone involved in the game to take a deep breath and really enjoy the occasion. Regardless of whether you’re a player, coach, umpire or supporter, with your hopes hinging on the premiership decider, or just an interested onlooker, football finals is always an occasion to savour. However as we move deeper into August, it’s a timely reminder to all football fans to ensure that the game continues to be played in the right spirit throughout the season. While finals time brings out the passion in all of us, it’s important to ensure that appropriate behaviour remains front of mind for everyone, regardless of the time of year. As role models in the local community, football clubs have a responsibility to provide a welcoming and safe environment for everyone both on and off the field.

Footy Preview They’re almost home and hosed By David Nagel The composition of this year’s finals series would now appear to be set - but Officer still needs to be a little wary when the Kangaroos travel to Kalora Park today to take on impressive ladder-leaders Narre Warren. The Kangas won a weird old contest against Pakenham last week, in a game where neither team could take full advantage of a strong breeze blowing towards oval two at Toomuc Reserve. That was until the Kangaroos fired up in the final term. Inspired by an after-the-siren goal in the third quarter by Matty Clarke, the Kangas kicked 5.2 to 1.4 to wipe away a four-point deficit and run away with victory. Two of the Kangaroos better players on the day, ruckman Sean Roach and midfielder Daniel Ellett, combined for the first centre clearance of the final term and the Kangas were on their way. Blair Allan capitalised on that early entry to snap truly, and when Steve Hawkins and Jake Ingaliso hit the scoreboard the Kangas were almost home. A classy finish from Ben Curtiss was rubber-stamped by Clarke and Officer had its foot in the door of its first finals campaign in the 14-year history of the Casey Cardinia/ South East Football Netball League. So what does that win mean for the Kangaroos going forward? It puts them two games and percentage clear of Tooradin with just two games remaining in the season. The Seagulls would need to upset Beaconsfield at Holm Park Reserve today to have any sort of chance of reeling in the Kangaroos when the two meet at Tooradin in next week’s final round of the season. The Kangas are a $1.01 chance to make it, but a repeat of their round four effort against the Magpies, who won by 130 points, could open the door for the Seagulls next week. But players like James Waldon, Harris Wasslkyo, Steve Heppel and Ben Tivendale have invested too much into this campaign to allow that to happen. We can expect a much-more competitive performance this afternoon against a team that continues to lift the bar at every opportunity.

The Narre Warren defence has stood tall - Can Officer find a way through? The Magpies were terrific against Cranbourne last week in a 36-point victory that showcased their improving nature. Trent Shinners is starting to clunk the ball strongly in the air while Brad Scalzo and Trent Cody used the ball beautifully through the midfield. Joel Zietsman stuck to his guns on Cranbourne dangerman Marc Holt, and will likely get the job on Clarke today. Ryan and Dylan Quirk were other positives for the Magpies, while Jake Richardson is set for a big September after controlling things off half back. The Magpies will pack too many punches today, winning by 37 points.

Footy Preview Beaconsfield can end Tooradin-Dalmore’s very faint finals hopes today when the Eagles and Seagulls take flight at Holm Park Reserve. The Eagles were clinical in a 137-point crushing of Doveton last week, a timely victory after losses to Pakenham, Berwick and Narre Warren. Bailey Morrish made it back-to-back standout games with a four-goal effort, while Riley Verbi and Damien Johnston were also effective up forward with three each. Jake Bowd and Daniel Johnston won plenty of the ball around the ground while the return of Nathan Langley is a very positive sign going forward. The Eagles need to make the most of today and fine tune their structures ahead of a round-18 trip to Cranbourne. Tooradin will bring some confidence in after a brave second-half performance against Berwick last week. Yes, the Seagulls were comprehensively outplayed in the first half, but their ability to dig deep and stay together as one will hold them in good stead against the Eagles this afternoon. Justin Smaluch, Matt Bennetts and Luke McKenna bring in some solid form while Andrew Dean would love nothing better than to set Holm Park alight up forward. But the Eagles will be too strong and they’ll get the choccies by 34 points. Reality came back to hit Cranbourne right between the eyes last week and Steve O’Brien and his boys will be keen to bounce back strongly when the Eagles fly to Toomuc Reserve to take on Pakenham.

Trent Cody has been gun performer for Narre Warren this year.

8

Joel Zietsman did a great job on Marc Holt last week. Does he get Matty Clarke today? The Eagles were always going to struggle last week, not just because of the quality of opposition in Narre Warren but because of the letdown after one of the biggest days in the club’s history a week earlier. Marc Holt’s 1000th goal was a wonderful achievement, but it brought a spotlight on the club that very few have to deal with. They were outplayed by the Magpies last week, but winning finals is now the sole focus. Even in defeat last week the Osborne boys, Brandon and Glenn, were terrific in defence while Holt and Troy Tharle love this time of year and showed some positive signs up forward. Ruckman Michael Wenn is getting better with every contest, while Jordy Bertrand and Dillan Bass will have big roles to play going forward. And Ryan Jones went off early last week which didn’t help the Eagles’ cause. Pakenham will be disappointed with last week’s effort against Officer, which crushed the hopes of playing finals. The reality is the Lions aren’t ready for that right now, but are showing some good signs for the future. Liam Tyrrell, Jimmy Harrison and Cooper Sheppard need to stay together for the Lions, while Darcy Hope has coped with some key roles in defence. Hope stood Matty Clarke last week and it will be interesting to see if coach Ash Green has enough faith in the young fella to start him on Holt this afternoon. Welcome to the big time Darcy! Steve O’Bryan passed his Sports Science Degree during the week, and will be keen for a big game – but the Eagles will be too strong. They’ll win a closer than expected contest by 13 points.

www.aflsoutheast.com.au

Footy Preview And finally, Berwick travels to Robinson Oval today to take on a struggling Doveton. The Wickers did what good sides do last week, taking the fun out of the contest and cruising home in second gear against Tooradin, while the Doves could kick just one goal in a 137-point defeat at the hands of Beaconsfield. Berwick’s engine room was on fire last week with Madi Andrews, Bryce Rutherford, Travis Tuck and Bailey Asher in supreme form, while Trent Thomas played a starring role up forward. That’s probably the only question mark on the Wickers this year, do they have the firepower to kick quick goals against the best opposition in September. They have the best defence in the business, so maybe Stewie Kemperman isn’t as concerned as what we are! It’s probably not a good time to bring that concern to the fore because the Wickers will kick a big score today, with forwards like Harry Money, James McLean, Brody Connelly and Tim Gunn likely to cash in on a plethora of opportunities. Mitch Cotter, Matt Stapleton and Russ Gabriel will need massive games for the Doves to keep this in check. But it will blow out, by 80-points plus.

Footy Notes Beaconsfield This week we welcome Tooradin to Holm park in what could be our last match up for years to Come. Both Beacy and Tooradin have both had a good relationship and we wish Tooradin all the best for the future competition changes if granted and we wish them all the best to be a strong club Last week we faced Doveton at home with no under 19’s being played the day started off with the senior women’s vs Chirnside park. Although the Beacy women matched it till half time they were not up to it in the second half and were out ran. Our reserves last week had some brilliant performances and there were some great individual performances Brodie McConnell starred in front of goals Hoppy back from injury and Disco Marchetti starred after a stint away. However overall the team work exceptionally well running away with a big win The senior list saw a couple of boys return from injury also leaving Doveton in their wake very early on running away with 137 point win. This was clearly the best team performance in weeks and we can only hope that this will build some very serious momentum leading into the finals This week we have all 4 senior teams at home and hope we can get 4 from 4 for the day. Tonight we draw our annual major raffle with some brilliant prizes on offer get in before 5:00pm to have a ticket to be part of the great opportunity Good luck to our teams today. Go Beacy

Narre Warren It was great to see so many old friends back at Fox Road last Saturday for Past Players Day and for the 10 year reunion of our 2008 senior premiership. And didn’t our footballers put on a show for the big crowd – some topnotch footy and three strong wins over our arch rival Cranbourne. In the Ones the pace and pressure was red-hot from the bounce; the contest around the packs was tough and bruising. It seems our boys have rediscovered that elusive ingredient we call ‘Narre Footy’ in recent weeks, as we worked as one to keep Cranbourne to just two first-half goals, and opened up a six goal lead at the main break.

Narre was winning the clearances and running in numbers. Our awesome defence led by Ryan Quirk, Richo, Jesse Davies and Joel Zietsman didn’t give Cranny’s attack a look-in; while our forward half produced four multiple goalkickers – Scanners, Tommy Miller, Josh Tonna and Brent Urwin. Trent Shinners’ strong marking and the hard work at the coal-face by Dylan Quirk, Trent Cody and Hayden Stagg underpinned a ripper win. Our Twos also never let Cranbourne get their game going. Hayden Johnson, Cam Miller, Andy Ray and Nick Mashado in defence continuously choked their opponents’ attempts to go forward, keeping Cranbourne to just three goals for the game. Troy Mengler and Jake Boccari were also in our best and Daniel Jackson kicked three as we ran away to a 9-goal win. Narre’s Under 19s dominated early with a six-goal to onegoal first half. But Cranbourne came out with intent in the third term and wrested the momentum – running rampant with four consecutive goals against the wind - and it was game-on! Approaching the last change Cranny looked every chance to steal the lead from Narre and come home with their tails up. However a scuffle on the members’ wing resulted in an umpire awarding Narre’s Ash Williamson two fifty-metre penalties on the siren, taking him to the teeth of goal to give Narre some breathing space. Just as the momentum had switched against us, that one single act it seems helped restore some equilibrium. Narre then rallied and fought the game out for a 14 point victory. Ash Williamson was Narre’s best with 5 goals, well-supported by Mark Bartuccio, Bailey Howarth, Jake Stuart and Ryan Patterson. Our $6,000 major club raffle last Sunday was a great success. Thanks to all our members and supporters who got behind it. A big shout-out to Hayden James for his hard work putting it all together; and well done to Jamie Papworth and Aaron Wilson who shared the first prize. Coming events Today is VIP Day at Fox Road when we host our sponsors, volunteers, affiliate Junior Football Club committees and local politicians. Footy Notes Officer A mixed bag of results last weekend saw the club take home 2 wins from 4 games. Our U/19’s and reserves were unlucky in defeat, whilst our Senior Men’s and Women’s came home victors after facing Pakenham & Cerberus/ Crib Point respectively. Last weekend’s Senior Men’s game was a thrilling one with numerous lead changes in a game played with great intensity. Heading into qtr time we found ourselves 2 players down but the lads managed to show there resilience and grind out a hard fought and deserving win. The win by our Senior Men’s team was an important one for us as a club and puts us one step closer to playing finals for the first time in over a decade, a goal which we set ourselves at the beginning of the season. In other news, on Thursday 2 August our application to join the new AFL Outer East Competition was formally sent and accepted, which is great news for the football club. Off field there are a number of upcoming events for members to keep free. Saturday 18 August – ROCest 100 Social Event Friday 21 September – Presentation Night Tickets for both events can be purchased from the club on Thursday nights Good luck to all our team this weekend as we take on Narre Warren. Pakenham Seniors - 04.08.2018 Pakenham vs Officer If we were to have a motto for season 2018 then it will be ‘so close but yet so far’. With no chance now of playing finals then its vitally important that the last couple of games we play for pride & respect which will be a great test when we take on Cranbourne. Upon reflection of the disappointing loss against Officer, the team is very young with minimal senior experience and that was evident with another u19 player in Brayden

14

Carr, playing his first senior game for the year and he acquitted himself well. Best players were Liam Tyrrell, Darcy Hope, Jimmy Harrison, Cooper Sheppard & Jake Barclay. We look forward to today’s challenge against a quality outfit in Cranbourne and it should be a great game. Reserves - This week we played Officer at home, a win and we still had a slim chance of playing finals. A loss and our dream of finals would be over. For the first time this year we played four quarters of football and came away with the win. The boys listened to instructions and played a great game. We were lead all day from Wrighty, Wheeler and Blake but the best part was,we didn’t carry any players, it was a team effort. Well done boys Under 19’s - Good win by the boys in poor conditions. We had to really grind this win which was a credit to players we had take the field. Well done to ROC for taking it right up to us, it was an excellent fight. Well done to our boys - we got the four points.

Berwick It was a late start to the day against Tooradin with their Under 19s forced to forfeit. Not an ideal situation with boys heading into a bye before playing Narre the week after. What it did do though was provide an opportunity for 7-8 of them to play in the reserves as some players were rested and numbers low. In a blustery day, not ideal for football the reserves just go over the line with all the 19s playing up contributing to the victory. The senior game was also played in terrible conditions for football and though Tooradin scored the last 3 goals of the name Berwick were in control all day. Next weeks will see us take on Doveton away and then finals just around the corner. Time to step it up. REMINDER Function after the Doveton game. This is the Netball run function so make sure you get along to support. We also want to take the opportunity to thank a few of the quiet achievers around the place. They may or may not be on the committee but regardless they put in each week. Cliff and Greeny who mark the lines, Roycey who despite his stature is able to stack the bar fridge every week and Johnny who does everything from interchange to end of day pack up. Nicole who vacuums each home game and Vicki who does everything else none of us get around to. THANKS GUYS

South East Juniors By David Nagel Cranbourne Gold kicked off the 2018 SEJ Finals Series in spectacular fashion with a classy come-from-behind victory over Hampton Park in the Under-11 White first semi-final at the Clyde Recreation Reserve last Sunday. After kicking against the breeze in the opening term, the Eagles trailed for most of the match before kicking five goals in a brilliant last quarter display. Eagles coach Tom Diaz was thrilled with his sides ability to hang tough when things weren’t going their way. “I’m super proud of the whole team, the boys and girls did everything I asked today and they’re just a great bunch of kids,” Diaz said from the changerooms after the match. He then reflected on what the team looked like at the start of the year. “When I look back to the start of the season, it looked like we would only have 13 or 14 players but now we have 21 and they’re all playing for each other…what more can a coach ask for,” he said, before explaining his tactics of kicking against the wind in the opening term. “We kicked against the wind in the first quarter because I knew the team had some run in the legs and we would finish strong in the last quarter. “They all love to run and kick goals and that’s what happened in the final quarter. We held them up in the third quarter and I saw of knew at that stage that we were going to be hard to beat. “I have to also give credit to the under 10s in our side who made a big difference today and throughout the season.” Showing great sportsmanship, Diaz saved his highest praise for Hampton Park number 22 Michael Galway. “For a little kid he reads the ball well, he gets the ball out of the pack and he runs,” Diaz said. “It doesn’t matter who they play for, when you see kids play footy like that it’s very exciting. Hampton Park should be very proud of their season and they were terrific opposition today.” It was a great team effort from Cranbourne, who had Andrew Russell and Troy Brown lead the way in their lastquarter revival. Unfortunately, the season ends for the Redbacks while the Eagles will now go on to play the loser of tomorrow’s second semi-final between Noble Park and Narre Warren.

Sturt shines on Debut Mt Eliza forward Sam Sturt made an impressive debut as the Dandenong Southern Stingrays all but sewed up top spot on the ladder with a 17-point win over the Northern Knights at Preston City Oval last Saturday. Sturt, who has had fantastic seasons for both the Peninsula School and the Redlegs under-19s, kicked a goal with his first kick in the TAC Cup, the highlight of a sluggish first quarter from the Rays who trailed at quarter time. The Rays were wildly inaccurate in front of goal in the first half, kicking 2.11, to trail the Knights by eight points at the major interval. The Rays had a purple patch in the third term, kicking six goals straight at one stage to take a 34-point stranglehold on the contest at the final break. The Knights fought back with the breeze at their backs in the final term but the Rays held on to continue a great run of form in 2018. Bailey Williams booted two goals, and while his highlight reel continues to build each week it was his below the knees work and defensive pressure that stood out last weekend. Fin Bayne had another best-on-ground performance playing more midfield time this week, as well as kicking two majors of his own. Captain courageous Campbell Hustwaite once again led the way, lifting his team mates in the second and third quarter, pumping the ball inside 50 with monotonous regularity. Stingrays Talent Manager Mark Wheeler knew the Knights at home were going to be a tougher task than their position on the TAC Cup ladder would suggest.

“We knew the Knights at home with their inclusions would be a tough game, but our leaders were looking forward to the challenge when we presented them with the scouting notes on Thursday night,” Wheeler said. “It took us a little longer to adjust to their style of play, which is probably the most disappointing thing that we took from the game. Teams are doing a lot of homework on us - being the benchmark of the competition right now.” Wheeler said the debut of Sturt was well deserved from a player from outside the system. “Brett Lovett is the coach at Peninsula and has been singing his praises since we watched him at the start of the season in round one,“ he said. “It’s a great story once again, with someone outside the program just digging in -head down, bum up, and applying his craft with the aim of getting better each week. There is a bye this week in the TAC Cup for the Vic Country Under-17 Futures game, as well as the APS/AGS Representative School game that will see TAC Cup players from the Stingrays participate. After the break the Stingrays travel to MARS Arena, Ballarat, to take on the Geelong Falcons on Saturday 18 August at 12.30pm. TAC CUP RESULTS Dandenong Stingrays 1.5 2.11 8.17 8.19.67 Northern Knights 3.0 5.1 5.1 8.2.50 Stingrays Goals: Fin Bayne 2, Bailey Williams 2, Sam Sturt, Jeremey Burton, Sam Fletcher, Corey Ellison. Netball Preview Magpie maestro reaches the 200 game club By David Nagel One of the most respected and influential figures in the recent history of the South East Football Netball League reaches a significant milestone today when Erin Clark plays her 200th club game for Narre Warren against ROC. A league best and fairest winner and multiple-time Team of the Year member, Clark has built an enviable reputation for her hard-working style of play in wing defence. She was a driving force in the Magpies’ first A Grade premiership win in 2015 and subsequent success stories in ‘16, ’17. Congratulation Erin on a great career full of many highlights. The clash between Narre and ROC has even more significance today, especially for the Kangaroos who need to defeat either the Magpies or Tooradin next week to keep their place in this year’s finals series. The Kangaroos currently sit fourth on the ladder, but Cranbourne and Doveton have winning opportunities over the next two weeks which could see them take the place of the Kangas. ROC had a strong win over Pakenham last week with Sarah Villiers (GS) and Sarah Castricum (GA) making the most of their opportunities in attack. Sam (C) continued her great work through the midcourt while Alisha Young and Jamilah Ferns were terrific performers in defence. The Magpies can’t really move from third place on the ladder but will have the added incentive today of putting their best foot forward for their leader. Clark will lead from the front as usual, while goaler Chloe Phillips will look to shoot cleanly in a big day for premiership winning teammate. Congratulations Erin, it’s a win in your 200th game…by 10 goals at the final whistle. Beaconsfield’s Holm Park Reserve will be the scene of an epic showdown today when the second-placed Eagles host ladder-leaders Tooradin-Dalmore. Only three goals separated these teams in their only confrontation in round four and both will be keen to get an advantage over the other heading into finals. These are clearly the two best teams in the competition right now so the contest should be a beauty. Dani Cameron (GD) and Abbie Sheers (GD) have the monumental task of trying to stop the Seagulls from scoring, or slowing them down at least, while Kaela Hughes, Zoe Mason, Ash Gill and Rylee Nelson are more than capable of matching it with the Seagulls through the midcourt.

Narre Warren star Erin Clark plays her 200th game for the club against ROC this afternoon.

And goalers Bianca Sanzaro (GS) and Tanya Mijovic (GA) just need to make the most of their opportunities against a powerful Seagulls’ defence. Bec Kinna, Ebony Mason and Rachel Cole just hate conceding goals and get great support from the likes of Sara Duncan, Tara Smith and Emma Iacovou through the middle. This will be a great game, a likely grand final preview, and the Seagulls will prevail by two. Doveton sits outside the top-five at the moment but can win its last two and sneak in starting with a home-game against Berwick today. The Doves host Pakenham in round 16 so have no excuses if they don’t play finals this year. Hayley Stewart, Tania Misa-Howe and Chelsea Imanisani tried hard against Beaconsfield last week and will be key players against the Wickers today. Liz Edwards has been a powerful figure in defence, while Dani Devlin is another to have good patches for the Doves this year.

Netball Preview Berwick had a tough day at the office against Tooradin last week but will still retain some confidence form the week before against Pakenham.

Stahl and Tahlia Coates will be looking to shoot the lights out while Nat Sparks and Steph Ryan will drive their side through the midcourt.

Olivia Macente, Morgan Thomas and Taylah Butterworth would have enjoyed that victory against the Lions and will be keen to reproduce today.

Pakenham will be no pushovers, particularly with players like Emma Jones, Bec Langford, Cath McCowan and Kyra Esler running around, but the Eagles should get the money.

But Doves need to win, and they will, by 15 goals. And Cranbourne can’t afford any slip ups when the Eagles make the trip to Pakenham today to take on the Lions.

They’ll keep their finals chances in touch with a nervy-attimes eight-goal victory.

The Eagles were comprehensive outplayed against Narre Warren last week and need to rebound in a hurry. Tegan

Erin Clark, front row second from left, played a huge part in Narre Warren’s first A Grade premiership success in 2015.

Netball Notes Narre Warren A day of celebrations! Congratulations to Caitlyn Pritchard, Hayley Rae and Jaymie Hammond on reaching their 100game milestone for NWFNC! This takes a lot of hard work and commitment - well done girls! Once again, impressive results across the board with eight wins from ten. A huge thanks to the players, parents and committee who worked tirelessly to host another home game. #buyin2018 U13 White: NW 28 def Cranbourne 13 U13 Red: NW 34 def Cranbourne 20 Good win girls! However, it was a slow start with messy play. But each quarter you improved, changed your game and got it together by hard work and focus. Tahlia was consistent and always backing up. Glimpses of brilliant team play especially in the goal third. Well done! U15 White: NW 22 def Cranbourne 20 This week the girls came up against Cranbourne who are sitting at the top of the table and in a really tough game the girls managed to pull off a great win. Well done girls! U15 Red: Cranbourne 18 def NW 15 Another good effort against a very strong Cranbourne team today. Little things were the big difference today, but we are improving every week. Awards to Paris, Holly S, Holly R and Jas U17 White: NW 32 def Cranbourne 16 A convincing win against a determined Cranbourne team! Well done to all players, particularly Ruby in goals, Rylee in defence and Jayde in the mid court! Keep the effort going girls, finals are approaching fast!! U17 Red: Cranbourne 26 def NW 19 Going in to this match we knew we were in for a challenge. To be tied at half time and to be defeated by 7 at the final siren was a little disappointing, though Cranbourne, a very polished team, were a little hungrier for the win on the day. A great show of talent from both teams. Awards went to Cailie Goodes, Alyssa Hunter and Amy Bidwell. D Grade: NW 32 def Cranbourne 14 Today we celebrated Caitlyn’s 100th game for NWFNC, a great achievement Caits, congrats, with a strong team effort. Netball Notes Berwick

13W had an awesome win with brilliant turnovers in defence which us allowed us to further our lead each quarter. With lots of changes throughout the game it was great to see the versatility and still dominant. also proud of all the girls efforts. 13R Girls came out strong today but slowly throughout the second half our team attitude and also teamwork decreased, there was a lack of communication within the team on court which lead us to sloppy play and silly mistakes, we still came out with the win against Tooradin but we know coming into finals there will be a few things we need to keep working on to ensure that our next few games are consistent ! 15W had a sensational win. Goals were set at training & revised throughout the game. Great attack and defensive skill all the way down the court. It was impressive that they fought the game until the final whistle. 49 - 3 and BOC to Dehansa and special mention to Ava who used her voice positively through the game. 15R had an impressive game this week. From the first whistle there was high intensity displayed by the entire team It continued throughout the game and the girls were able to adjust & modify their game to ta=ckle what Tooradin through at them. Strong defensive presence and the turn overs, were amazing watching the attacking end make every opportunity count. We are looking forward to the coming weeks to make positive team gains. 17W started relaxed and calm, very quickly they lifted their intensity and transitioned the ball from defensive to goals quickly and smoothly. A fantastic win by the girls and shows just how far we have come as a team. 2 ore games to go and can’t wait to celebrate all we have achieved in season 2018. 17R - 45-11 score This week we had our first full team for 6 rounds. The team “express” absolutely dominated from the first pass. Their one on one contest was outstanding setting up opportunities to try various combinations and game strategies as we approach finals. Congrats to Lata Argon for BOC. D Grade with many rounds since playing Tooradin and a small reflection of improvements in our team. We tripled our previous score against a much experienced team. A challenging game with our defenders out, Brooke Holden stood and went from our shooting end to the defensive. C Grade with 3 games remaining, the girls found it hard to stay motivated knowing they have missed the finals. To their credit they still went out and gave it a red hot crack, with some great passages of play through transition from our defensive end to our goalers, something we have worked on hard for the past few weeks. We won the last quarter but unfortunately too many forced errors causing turnovers throughout the first half, couldn’t make enough of a comeback. B Grade Disappointing result for B grade team if all attended we would have had a contest but with l5 players absent we had to call to arms three C grade players and 17/u. With two of the B Grade girls on court ill the team

didn’t have a great day but some relentless efforts from Katie Macdonnell, Julia Batchelor and Shenaya Wjesundara gave us opportunities to score. BOC to Katie McDonnell. A Grade, Tough day out after coming off a winning high against PAKENHAM. Tooradin showed the reason they are on top of the ladder. Their skill execution and conversion was outstanding. BOC was Kassidy Withers and special mention to Jaimee Cotter for a solid WA performance. The Berwick Netball Club are super proud of its junior ranks and are looking forward to seeing 5 out of the 6 teams in finals after 2 more rounds. Lets come home strong #wickers.

Tooradin-Dalmore

The sun was shining again for us on Saturday in what was another great day of netball as we welcomed Berwick to our courts. Our four senior sides had dominant wins, with some great team efforts which is a positive sign heading into the finals soon. The A-Grade girls combined brilliantly for a stunning four quarters of netball, with great passages of play and defensive pressure down the court. B-Grade had one of their better games for the season and improved on the things they wanted to, and finished with a 40-goal win. C-Grade and D-Grade also both had great games, with Mikayla Howes back to her best in C-Grade with a beautiful game in defence, and Ellie Brooke in D-Grade putting in a strong performance. Well done to the junior girls that stepped up and took to the court in both teams over the weekend. Unfortunately, our junior teams were unable to get any wins on the weekend against some really strong Berwick sides. They continue to do us proud though as they keep up their efforts and intensity each week when faced with tough competition. This week we head to Beaconsfield in what is sure to be a testing day out across the board, with Beacy always a tough club to come up against. We have a couple of special milestone games this weekend for two our young Gulls, including a big one for Bridget Holloway who will player her 100th junior game. Bridget is in her 5th year with the club. She has captained teams, won both runner-up and best and fairest awards and has stepped up over to play above her age group in juniors the past few years and this year, has joined the C-Grade team on numerous occasions. She is an umpire with the club, has helped with the Net Set Go programs, and has also been selected and represented SEFNL. Well done on this achievement Bridget! A big congratulations also goes to Chloe Isgro who plays her 50th junior game this weekend. A great little defender who gives it her all each week. With all senior teams having secured their spots for finals now, the girls are all looking for some good results over the next couple of weeks against some other finals contenders. The A-Grade match will be a top of the table clash, with our girls sitting first and Beaconsfield just behind them in second.

Netball Notes Both C and D-Grades are sitting on equal points with Beaconsfield, so there’s sure to be some great, tough games of netball on display. Finally, after the last round of the home and away season next week we’ll have a function back at the Tooradin Sports Club with live music from Geronimo. Come along for dinner and drinks with your team mates and celebrate a great season and our last in the SEFNL league. GO SEAGULLS!!!

Beaconsfield

A GRADE - As we hit the final few games of the season, it’s been important for the girls to start playing finals netball, and they showed signs of that today. With a big first quarter, Dani C and Ash dominated both ends, giving opportunity to convert the ball. Tanya found her groove with her goals, while Bianca played smart with her positioning. Kaela gave 100% hunting down balls in WD,with Abbie rebounding strongly, and Zoe and Rylee outstanding for us in C.We look forward to testing ourselves again against Tooradin next week, who’s great brand of netball makes for a fantastic match. Awards-Dani C,Ash & Kaela B GRADE - A tough week for Beacy against an improved Doveton side. The Doves took advantage of Beacy’s slow start pushing out to a 9goal lead in the first 15minutes. Changes in defense stemmed the quick Doveton play. The third quarter was by far our best with great connections through the court, pulling in 5 goals more than the Doves. The last quarter start was slow yet again, and the deficit was too much to pull in with a loss of 12-our heaviest loss so far. Back to the drawing board this week. Awards-Mackenzie,Gabby and Jess C GRADE - A solid win by the girls, good to see them bounce back after last week. After losing both defenders Bec and Vicky, this has provided an opportunity for Maddy to make her comeback after an ankle injury. Awards-Brodie,Amanda and Danni D GRADE - Our girls really showed that they had come to play and applied great pressure from the first whistle. Our defence and midcourt were strong and showed that we can match it with Doveton. Our goalers had a lot to deal with in the windy conditions, but moved well and played good clean netball. Really proud of everyone’s efforts today. Awards:Tayla,Shelley and Claire U17 RED - After a tightly contested first quarter,Doveton took a double figure lead going into the last.Beacy played at their best in the last, letting the ball go and working hard to convert on the turnovers created by their defensive line. Unfortunately Beacy ran out of time and Doveton took the win. Awards:Charlotte,Teneille & Paige

U17 WHITE - 17 Whites had a great win over Doveton, they’ve got their game together at the right time in the season. Each player in the attack end played part in setting up structures and set plays that we have worked on.Kasey had a solid game in GS,banging them in from everywhere. Alongside her,Sophie also had an outstanding game in goals providing strength and drives in the ring.Alica had an impact in the midcourt providing drive into attack. Thanks to Maddi,Jemima and Abbey for helping us this week! U15 RED - The 15s played a little like the wind! There was times where the ball was stirred up and forced in,which was not what the forecast of the game expected! However, there were also great passages of play, which looked calm and controlled. The height of Doveton was difficult to counteract, however Alix in the goaling third and Maddi in defence were instrumental in utilising their height and skills.Jemima,Millie,Ariah and Tiahn made an impact in many positions,Abbey and Tahlia controlled the ball in Beacy’s attacking thirds. It’s a credit to the girls for being able to play a variety of positions, and decipher skills and areas of the game we can continue to work on Awards:Tahlia,Abbey & Alix U13 RED - Girls started well, putting together some great passages of play!Their defensive pressure was good forcing plenty of turnovers. All girls were playing positive netball and encouraging each other.Changes made at 1/2 time saw girls out of their positions which they all adapted beautifully.Unfortunately we weren’t challenged, but we still implemented strategies and positive on court behaviour Awards:Eliza,Jemma & Tiarna U13 WHITE - This week we played Doveton at home. The girls had a good team win and remained composed for all four quarters. A strong lead gave us the opportunity to try some different combinations, which the girls embraced and everyone played their roles beautifully Awards:Sienna,Millie & Miller

Netball Notes Pakenham

We played four strong quarter and encouraged each other the whole game, putting into play everything we had practised at training – goalers took every opportunity to convert and did that 95%. The midcourt ran smoothly, and our defence end made it near impossible for the other team to score. So very proud of these girls this week! U17 Red - Well Well Well… Big game and chance for us to lock up third spot and secure double chance. With the return our captain, our warm up was good with very motivated player speeches. We came out 5-4 up first quarter – our second quarter we played the best quarter we have played all year – voice, encouragement and enthusiasm were super with our goalers dominating. Third quarter was even, with an 11 goal lead we lapsed mentally again – bad choices with ball in hand and switching off let Beaconsfield back in the game. A 3 goal win in the end – looking forward to next week! U17 White - Well this team had a huge slip this week – poor warm up and that showed during the game. Every girl seemed uninterested and did not play up to their standards. A hard training session and hopefully against Berwick our team from a few weeks ago will be back on court! D Grade - Well Well Well… Top of the table clash – a great finals like atmosphere, both teams not taking a backward stop, hard physical netball – just the way we like it!!!! With great voice from Emma Barry and Wolf and Bec Hendy dominating their circle we led from start to finish with Ash running C all day and Bianca having a great battle. Today we showed just how good we can be when all play as a team. Fantastic team win today – well done ladies! C Grade - Really slow start, too many turnovers. Few key players away, which was evident, however the girls never gave up and kept going and didn’t drop their heads.

Today our club is hosting a Premiership luncheon which has proudly been sponsored by Terri Fellows at Barry Plant Real Estate Pakenham. This sees players and coaches from our A Grade Premiership teams from 1960 to 2013 attend and enjoy a lunch together and remember all the great moments they shared together at our mighty club. We have guests attending from interstate, regional and local. Thank you to all that have travelled to attend today’s function. This event has certainly created a buzz around the club and we can’t wait to hear their stories and history of the club with us all. Welcome to all our special guests, we are so very honoured to have you at the club today. What those of us dream of accomplishing, you have achieved by winning an A Grade Premiership. Sadly, the club has suffered three season ending ankle injuries over the past week. Our best wishes to Lauren & Katrina from A Grade and Bailee from U13 Red we can’t wait to see you all back for 2019. The club is now advertising for coaches for 2019 please see below advert. Our club prides itself on offering an engaging, skilled based training program for our players which sees specialist netball training, fitness and strength, and ensuring our players enjoyment in their chosen sport of netball. We are a supportive club that values and respects our players and coaches. This week we acknowledge and thank our long term Netball Sports Trainer, Kenny. Kenny is amazing volunteer he is here from our U13s to A Grade training and game days. Always willing to assist with taping, massage or assistance with injuries and rehab. Kenny has been a great asset to our club and sadly he has advised he will be retiring at the end of this season. We are all very sad to see him go, but Kenny wishes to spend more time with his grandson who is playing football which we totally understand and respect. Thank you Kenny from everyone at Pakenham Lions Netball Club for the years of service to our mighty club, it has always been very appreciated and valued by all. Beaconsfield/Doveton Some great wins but unfortunately a few losses. Moving forward we are excited to host the last two games of the SEFNL season at home! We have a must win round against Berwick for a few of our teams this weekend and then following weekend we host Pakenham for our white ribbon round and extend an invitation to all Pakenham players/supporters to join us – we have a guest speaker and an afternoon tea! The club is excited with the progress of our new court and very happy to be recipients of a grant for the re-surfacing of our existing court (much hard work done here by one of our club/committee members)! U15 Red - This week the girls came to play – their attitude in warm up and during/after the game is what a coach dreams off.

SEWF Report By Lachie Ramage

Gippsland defeated Endeavour Hills via a forfeited.

As we head into the final round of SEWF we could be set to witness the most exhilarating round of the season.

In division two Seaford had a stress-free day against Cranbourne, victorious by 47 points, while Bass Coast faced one of its toughest challenges to date against an impressive Tyabb outfit.

Mornington takes on Port Melbourne in division one and for the Bulldogs the equation is simple - if they win then fourth spot is theirs. St Kilda will be praying for the Borough to conquer the Bulldogs, allowing them to take part in finals. Division Two finalists are already locked in but we may be witness to a grand final preview as the top two teams, Bass Coast and Seaford, collide in one of the games of the season. And in division three, fourth-placed Pearcedale takes on second-placed Mornington. The Bulldogs will be looking to bounce back from their loss last week and they will be out to ruin the Panthers afternoon. It’s possible for the Panthers to lose and still make finals, but in order for that to happen Hastings must take down Crib Point. A number of different scenarios can occur this week, and one thing is for certain we are expecting a thrilling final round in SEWF. In division one last week Chirnside Park had a solid day out against Beaconsfield, victorious by 23 points. Meanwhile Seaford was a class above Port Melbourne, winning by 48 points as it prepares for finals. Alison Dowler was the star up forward for the Tigers booting five goals.

The Yabbies led by seven points at the first change, before the Breakers fought back to lead by a single point at the last change. From there Bass Coast did what the best teams do, kicking away in the last quarter and keeping the Yabbies goalless, victorious by 19 points. Eastern Devils cruised past the St Kilda Sharks by 63 points, whilst Warragul got the four points for the fourth time this season, victorious by 77. In division three Red Hill made it two straight wins, upsetting Seaford in a low scoring affair. Officer defeated Crib Point by 37 points, whilst Pearcedale secured the most important win of its season defeating Karingal by nine points and jumping into the top four in the process. Frankston Bombers got a win over the second placed Mornington, while Pakenham forfeited its clash against Hastings.

Mornington headed to Casey Fields to take on Cranbourne, where the Bulldogs kicked out to a 20-point lead at quarter time. A fightback was expected from the Eagles and they didn’t disappoint, kicking two second-term goals to trim the margin to a straight kick at the main break. From there it was anyone’s game, but it was the Bulldogs who kicked 1.3 to a single point to extend their lead to 14 points at three-quarter time. The Eagles fought back kicking 1.3 to a single behind but that wasn’t enough, falling short by six points. Eastern Devils took on St Kilda Sharks, where the Devils sent a strong message to their fellow rivals, winning by 30 points and keeping their opposition to a single goal.
