BARDO, FALSE CHRONICLE OF A HANDFUL OF TRUTHS
Acclaimed filmmaker Alejandro G. Iñárritu has returned to make a film in Mexico for the first time since his feature debut Amores Perros became an international sensation. In crafting the story of Mexican-born, Los Angeles-based journalist, Iñárritu has crafted a dream-like, poetic and surreal story–both intimate and epic-that can easily be called his most personal film. STORYLINE/PLOT SUMMARY: BARDO, False Chronicle of a Handful of Truths is an epic, visually stunning and immersive experience set against the intimate and moving journey of Silverio, a renowned Mexican journalist and documentary filmmaker living in Los Angeles, who, after being named the recipient of a prestigious international award, is compelled to return to his native country, unaware that this simple trip will push him to an existential limit. The folly of his memories and fears have decided to pierce through the present, filling his everyday life with a sense of bewilderment and wonder. With both emotion and abundant laughter, Silverio grapples with universal yet intimate questions about identity, success, mortality, the history of Mexico and the deeply emotional familial bonds he shares with his wife and children. Indeed, what it means to be human in these very peculiar times. CAST & CREW: STARS Daniel Giménez Cacho, Griselda Siciliani, Ximena Lamadrid and Íker Sánchez Solano; DIRECTED BY Academy Award® winner Alejandro G. Iñárritu, WRITTEN BY Iñárritu and Academy Award® winner Nicolás Giacobone. PRODUCTION / DISTRIBUTION: BARDO is PRODUCED BY Alejandro G. Iñárritu and Stacy Perskie Kaniss. Shot in resplendent 65mm by Academy Award® nominee Darius Khondji (Amour, Se7en). The film features PRODUCTION DESIGN BY the Oscar winning Mexican designer Eugenio Caballero (ROMA, Pan’s Labyrinth) and COSTUME DESIGN BY Anna Terrazas (The Deuce, ROMA), EDITED BY Iñárritu and featuring a SCORE BY Iñárritu and Bryce Dessner. DON’T WORRY DARLING
Are you ready to live the life you deserve? STORYLINE/PLOT SUMMARY: Director/Producer/Actor Olivia Wilde’s “Don’t Worry Darling” follows Alice (Oscar nominee Florence Pugh) and Jack (Harry Styles) living in an experimental company town where the men work for the top-secret Victory Project while the women enjoy the luxury of their utopian community. Frank (Chris Pine) serves as the corporate visionary and espouses a 1950’s societal optimism that anchors every aspect of daily life in Victory. Life is perfect here, with every resident’s needs met by the company. All they ask in return is discretion and unquestioning commitment to the company cause. When cracks begin to appear in this idyllic lifestyle, exposing flashes of something sinister, Alice must reckon with what lurks behind the façade and the price of this paradise. ELVIS
STORYLINE/PLOT SUMMARY: Director-producer-cowriter Baz Luhrmann takes us on the moving journey of a rebel and an icon as America’s cultural landscape evolved over more than 30 years. ELVIS celebrates the extraordinary life of a trailblazing artist, the loves and poignant losses he faced as a man and the timeless music and groundbreaking performances he gave the world. The film explores how Presley’s unprecedented rise to fame was sparked by larger-than-life manager Colonel Tom Parker, whose shortcomings were also primarily responsible for the singer’s tragic demise. Austin Butler and Tom Hanks co-star. HUSTLE
After discovering a once-in-a-lifetime player with a rocky past abroad, a down on his luck basketball scout takes it upon himself to bring the phenom to the States without his team’s approval. Against the odds, they have one final shot to prove they have what it takes to make it in the NBA. STORYLINE/PLOT SUMMARY: Stanley Sugerman, a jaded international NBA scout, lives life on the road searching for future stars. While he is liked by Philadelphia 76ers owner Rex Merrick, he clashes with Rex’s son Vincent. Rex promotes Stanley to assistant coach. The same evening, however, Rex dies, leaving Vincent in charge. Three months later, Vincent demotes Stanley again to scout, sending him overseas to find a new star. In Spain, Stanley watches a local pick-up game and is stunned by an incredibly talented unknown player, Bo Cruz. Stanley urges the 76ers front office to sign him, but Vincent is unconvinced. Taking matters into his own hands, Stanley pays to bring Cruz to the US. He takes Bo to play at a showcase and later to the NBA combine. Bo shows flashes of talent, but struggles at guarding top prospect Kermit Wilts, who trash talks him and throws him off his game. A private game is set for players and front office members. Playing without pressure, Cruz finally locks down Wilt. Rex’s daughter Kat reveals she is taking over from Vincent and rehires Stanley as an assistant coach. Five months later, the 76ers and Boston Celtics tip off for a game with Stanley now the assistant coach of the 76ers, and Bo playing for the Boston Celtics.
