A Revival of God

Consciousness Bobby E. Mills, PhD

It’s About Sin Office: (713) 692-1892 Wednesday – Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

GREATER HOUSTON EDITION

Sin is contrary to the will of God. The devil is the father of lies and lying is the beginning of sin. Sadly, it is crystally clear that Republicans have been lying about being Godfearing faithful defenders of constitutional Democracy. The GOP is not a governing Party, it is a political cult and an attack-dog-party, because the GOP does not have an inclusive democracy-policy governing agenda. They only have a White Privilege Agenda in a multi-cultural democratic society against that America’s constitution stands for. Fortunately, there are some influential Americans who are calling-out The Christian Right Evangelicals for their ungodly devilish hypocrisy. America, the devil cannot counterfeit and bring thing into the world that God has not already spoken life into. The devil can only manipulate things that God created to project his spirit into individuals and relationships and create confusion. God gives everyone free will, including the devil. The snake in the Garden of Eden was manipulated by

the ungodly spirit of the devil. Eve manipulated Adam through that same ungodly spirit, and they became disobedient to God’s will. Disobedience to God’s will is sin. Thus, disobedience began in the world in the Garden of Eden with the devil and Adam and Eve. The “blame game” began with Adam and Eve. Adam blamed his sinful disobedience on Eve, and Eve declared that the “devil made me do it”. Questions: are Christian Right Evangelicals, The GOP and White Nationalists children of Cain? Or are they the 33 1/3 of the fallen Angelic spirits that God had to kick out of heaven and those demonic spirits fell to earth? Most things that are good and universal in America is usually unacceptable to Christian Right Evangelicals, The GOP and White Nationalists because they desire to play GOD. They cannot accept the will of God; Love thy neighbor as thy love thyself, because in the sight of God equal is equal, not more or less equal. Sin is sin, and God has asked the eternal question and provided the eternal answer: “For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?” (Matthew For more visit 16: 26). aframnews.com

Partin’ the Waters By Omowale Luthuli-Allen

Y Can’t You Let Nancy Pelosi Brake Bread and Drink the Wine of Communion The Archbishop of San Fran has decided to bar the Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi from receiving holy communion. Madame Speaker is the third in line to assume the most powerful position on the planet if, God forbid, President Biden and VP Kamala Harris are unable to serve. Does anyone else find this exclusionary verdict to be jacked up beside me? I served as communion steward for about 10 –12 years and my understanding of scripture based on the life of the expert was not to partake of it if you were unworthy, shucking and jiving, faking, and deceiving. The San Fran archbishop has decided to separate the wheat from the chaff by adopting a standard that a high pro-choice government official is persona non-grata at the mercy seat and table. Pro-choice has become the unpardonable and unconscionable sin. Will the Pope overrule

the archbishop? Christocentric means that all scripture is to be viewed through the lens of the life of Christ. Many religionists believe that civil government and the law is to be respected. I pause because all sages know that commandments are conditional based on time, place, and situation. In opposition to his spiritual leader, the Pope, the representative of God on Earth, he has decided that Nancy and pro-choice supporters are unworthy of the breeze from heaven. I am dismayed for this branch of the church has never satisfactory policed pedophilia, often hiding the grown ass men that assaulted little boys. Research says that pedophilia is a psychiatric disorder in which an adult …. experiences a primary or exclusive sexual attraction to prepubescent children. I interpret this to mean man-boy sex. I interpret this to mean man-girl sex. For centuries, Protestant and Catholic, secular, and non-secular leaders have permitted this contact to flourish, and many victims have not survived this cult. The millions of victims were below the age of consent. Whatever happened to sin? Clean the inside of the cup. For more visit aframnews.com

THE TRUTH ABOUT MEMORIAL PARK By: Chelsea Davis-Bibb, Ed.D.

HOUSTON-When was the last time you visited Memorial Park in Houston? There is a lot of history that lies within Memorial Park, history that is not told as much as it should be, if it is told at all. Memorial Park was once home to Camp Logan, 3,002 acres within a tract of 9,560 acres and was equipped to house an estimate of 40,000 troops. Camp Logan was created in response to Germany invading Belgium, which sparked Europe into war. On April 6, 1917, the United States (U.S.) entered the conflict unprepared. According to the Heritage Society, the Selective Service Act was passed, and millions of men entered the draft, and they needed to be trained. There were 16 National Guard camps created across the U.S., and Houston was one of the cities who were granted a site. The camp was named after Mayor General John A. Logan, a veteran of the Civil War and U.S. Congressman who played a role in establishing Memorial Day as a national holiday in 1868. On August 23, 1917, The Houston Riot occurred, which is known as the Camp Logan Mutiny, which impacted 156 soldiers, historically known as Buffalo Soldiers of the all Black 3rd Battalion, 24th infantry, according to Prairie View’s website. The 3rd Battalion, 24th Infantry was sent to Houston to guard and protect the construction of Camp Logan. It was noted that Black soldiers who were stationed

in Texas were always subject to violence because Houston was a southern city that was governed under Jim Crow Laws. The soldiers were treated bad for weeks by local citizens as well as the police department. Tensions rose even higher when one of the Black soldiers was arrested and false rumors were made that he was killed while in the custody of police, which sparked a violent response. More than a hundred of the soldiers marched down to the police station with their weapons. The city was placed under Martial law on August 24, 1917. A White mob of citizens from Houston responded to the soldiers with violence. There were 11 citizens and five police officers who were killed, thirty civilians were severely injured. Four of the mutinous soldiers were killed, with two of them being accidentally shot by their own men. Another soldier was killed by a citizen. The 24th Battalion Infantry was placed on a train the next day and sent away where they were all court martialed. Not too long after, on December 11, 1917, thirteen Black soldiers were hung on Camp Travis in

San Antonio. Sadly, the men were buried and were not identified by a name, only a number. Other soldiers were given life sentences and the following year in September 1918, six additional soldiers were also hung at Camp Travis. There was no evidence if the first soldiers participated in the riot, but six men in the second group were identified as soldiers who shot at civilians during the riot. Many people do not know about this historic event that is known as the most tragic event that occurred in Houston. This is because people don’t talk about history like they should. It is easier to act as if nothing has happened then to acknowledge the past. Roy Douglas Malonson stated, “If you want to destroy a race, destroy its history.” Slavery and racism are a part of our past, and a part of our history. It has not defined Blacks but has molded us into the strong race we are today. It is important more now than ever that we teach our young people about our history. There are several reasons why history is important, for one it teaches us about our culture. To know where we’re going, we must

know where we come from. If we allow them to erase our history, then future generations would not know what slavery and racism is and how easily history can repeat itself. We are enslaving our future by not discussing the past. It also allows us to understand present day events and why they happen. Knowing this will allow you to make connections and identify patterns and trends that may be oblivious to others. The past teaches us about strength and endurance and how to persevere when it seems like all odds are against you. It also teaches us to learn from past mistakes so that they won’t be repeated. History also gives us a sense of identity and great pride, and finally, history teaches us appreciation. An appreciation for the struggle of our ancestors, an appreciation for their sacrifices and lessons they bestowed upon us, and an appreciation for the weight they carried so that we could live a better life. On this Memorial Day, we honor those who have served and have sacrificed their lives for this country. We also honor history and the past that has led us to this very moment. To everyone who have served and are currently serving our country, from the bottom of my heart, thank you for your service. The next time you visit Memorial Park, take a moment to reflect on the history that lies there deep within.

VETERANS By: Crystal Toussant

In honor of our deserving Veterans, Houston Praise and Worship Center, under the leadership of Bishop Frank A. Rush, Dr. JoAnn Vallie Rush (deceased), and Rev. Sidney Cooper produced the US Armed Forces Day Celebration. This is the second year they have celebrated the sacrifice and dedication of our US Armed Forces. Houston Praise and Worship Center’s objectives are to create better “collaboration, coordination, and communication” by what they have identified as the 7C’s, which include, church, cops, community, college, city, county, and country. Bishop Frank A. Rush and his “Dream Team” are focused on promoting community appreciation for our past, present, and future US Armed Forces past. They are determined to create an environment that fosters care and concern of the community for those protecting & serving whether foreign

or domestic. They are determined to show thanks to God for protecting our Country and the fine service men and women who are the nucleus that ensures our protection. The Theme of the US Armed Forces Day of Celebration was “God Bless America!” The Scripture, “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord!” was the driving force for every part of this inspiring celebration (Psalm 33:12). U.S. Armed Forces Day Celebration was beautifully emceed by Councilwoman Dr. Carolyn Evans – Shabazz. She was a delightful addition to this event as the leader of District D because there were several integral speakers who were promoting the purpose of bringing important shareholders into our community to promote unity and cooperation. THE OBAMA PORTRAITS TOUR

AFRAMNEWS.COM 7

Join me Gilbert Andrew Garcia in ccelebrating

By: Carter James

HOUSTON - The official portraits of President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama have been displayed at The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston (MFAH). President Obama’s portrait was created by Kehinde Wiley, and Amy Sherald created the portrait of the First Lady. The portraits have gained national attention since the first reveal at the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery in February 2018. Wiley and Sherald made history as the first African American artists who were selected to create the portraits of President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama. According to Wiley’s website, he is a Los Angeles native and “has firmly situated himself within the art’s history portrait painting.” In addition, “As a contemporary descendent of a long line of portraitists, including Reynolds, Gainsborough, Titian, Ingres, among others, Wiley, engages the signs and visual rhetoric of the heroic, powerful, majestic and the sublime in his representation of urban, black and brown men found throughout the world.” Artist Sherald was born in Columbus, Georgia and is known to document the “contemporary African American experience in the United States through arresting, otherworldly figurative paintings. Sherald engages with the history of photography and portraiture, inviting viewers to participate in a more complex debate about accepted notions of

Saturday June 18TH race and representation, and to situate Black heritage centrally in American art,” according to Hauser and Wirth. Both Wiley and Sherald did a phenomenal job on their portraits. You can truly see their unique styles and personalities reflected in each piece. On the day I attended the tour, there were many people who were amazed at their work and enjoyed the beauty and detail of each design, which captured the elegance and the epitome of Black excellence. If you are looking for something to do in Houston, consider a visit to the MFAH. The MFAH is a great place that showcases different art pieces by some of the most talented people. The tour kicked off at The Art Institute of Chicago on June 18th and has been to the Brooklyn Museum, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, High Art Museum, Atlanta, and now in Houston. The portraits tour in Houston started on April 3rd and will end May 30th.
