American Democracy Upside Down Liar, lair democracy on fire. Christian Right Evangelicals, The GOP, White Nationalist Groups and a few insane Blacks desire to selfishly reform democracy. Hence, in the spiritual words of JESUS Christ, our Lord and Savior: “forgive them Lord for they know not what they do.” We know why some White groups desire to reform democracy and embrace White Autocracy: power, privilege, and pleasure. The insane Blacks simply desire upmanship over other Blacks; they cannot accept that equal is equal, not more or less equal. These Blacks are materialists, and vanityflesh oriented, not spiritual conscience minded. As the ole saying goes, birds of a feather flock together, and they will vote for devil-minded individuals. Democracy is for an intelligent citizenry. Thus, the basic principles of democracy must be universally taught in our educational institutions. White washing history is a dangerous proposition in a multi-cultural democratic society,

because no human governing system is perfect. Moreover, no governing system can endure embracing lies, because: “Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people” (Proverbs 14: 34). Therefore, anti-democracy groups/forces in America cease attempting to make God a lair: “because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful: but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools” (Romans 1: 21-22). America, we have too many fools seeking to make GOD (TRUTH) a lie, and wrong right, and right wrong. Even with all her spiritual and socio-economic shortcomings American Democracy is still the envy of the world community. Hence, let US become better, not bitter and with a wholesome spiritual mindset sing and pray together: “God Bless America”. He (God) has! Therefore, let’s not take it for granted and prayerfully come together as a multicultural democratic nation before it is too late, because it is written: “So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God” (Romans 14: 12). Speaking of Reparations To many Americans, “reparations” is a dirty word when applied to Black folks. Numerous obstacles are thrown up, like so many stone walls surrounding European castles, when it comes to discussing reparations for losses suffered by African Americans due to slavery, segregation and institutional racism. For years, policies have been designed to keep Black folks from the enjoyment of life made possible by economic progress. And arguments against reparations for African Americans are thrown up by whites with such hubris and self-assured righteousness that it is hard not to believe those arguments are born out of notions of white supremacy. A brief survey of the history of reparations easily exposes the weakness of those arguments. Five of the arguments raised against reparations are: (1) They are logistically impossible. (2) They would worsen the national debt. (3) Reparations for slavery won’t help the Black community. (4) Slavery did not benefit white America

financially very much. (5) “Race hustlers” would end up with the money and continue to demand more. While objections have been raised against Black reparations, Native Americans and Japanese Americans have received reparations for their losses. And according to the Brookings Institution, after World War II, “the Marshall Plan helped to ensure that Jews received reparations for the Holocaust, including making various investments over time.” There are those who say, “It is too difficult to provide reparations to the enslaved.” But it was not too difficult for England to provide reparations to British subjects who were slave owners. Four years after Parliament passed the Slavery Abolition Act in 1833, Great Britain’s Slave Compensation Act was signed into law in 1837. This act authorized the Commissioners for the Reduction of the National Debt to compensate slave owners for the loss of their slaves in its colonies in the Caribbean as well as in Mauritius and the Cape of Good Hope. The sum of money granted to more than 40,000 slave owners was so great that some of the payments were converted into 3.5% government annuities that lasted unFor more visit til 2015. aframnews.com

Since we

have these individuals in office, can we trust them to truly be “for the people.” Will they fight for those that can’t fight for themselves, or for Black people? Can we trust them to do what they say they’re going to do and keep the needs of “the people” to heart? We elect these politicians at their word being “for the

people,” but instead, they get in office and let their “White influences” sway them from their intended goal. Having that White influence, it is justification for them to allow “us” in those high positions to begin with. But at what cost? Stop supporting Black folks just because they are Black! Especially if they aren’t doing

anything for the Black community. So, are we balanced now? Are there enough White people and Black people in office? Is this sufficient for us to move forward and have the diversity we need, the people in place to fight for “our people?” If we don’t do it, then who will?

COMMUNITY

the ag science conserVation association By: Chelsea Davis-Bibb, Ed.D.

Michael Wade Thomas, also known as Michael “COBRA” Thomas, a retired scientist of 45 years, is the CEO of the Ag Science Conservation Association. The purpose of the nonprofit is, “To increase the diversity of underserved and underrepresented youth of all ethnicities in agriculture, science, and conservation careers, while simultaneously developing outdoor recreational skills through hands on interactive experiences led by professional and community role models.” Thomas wants to capture the interest of kids and expose them to outdoor agriculture and outdoor careers. One way Thomas is doing this is through his annual summer camp, which

will take place on July 12-15. The participants will be able to talk with individuals about ranching, aquatics, taxidermy, and so much more. The participants will also stay the night on a ranch and get the whole outdoor experience. According to Thomas, one of the reasons kids should be involved in agriculture is because of different opportunities and scholarships that are available to them. One of the programs he mentioned is called Coastal Brigade. They have intensive camps that students can be a part of, but students must be in agricultural classes at their school to be able to apply. Thomas has worked at several of those places and mentioned how most of the kids that participate in those programs are not minorities. This

is because many minorities do not want to take agricultural classes within their schools. When asked his thoughts regarding why more minorities are not involved in agriculture, he felt it was because their interest in sciences starts to dwindle when they enter middle and high school. As a former substitute teacher, who taught many grade levels, he saw their interest decrease firsthand. Thomas reflected on a time he went to Dallas to visit an elementary school for career day, and said his experience was amazing. “The kids went crazy, and everyone wanted to see the scientist,” he said. Thomas made it known that we must expose kids at a young age to agricultural opportunities, but to continue to

expose them as they reach higher grade levels as well. There are many careers and a lot of money to be made in agriculture, so we must educate and expose are youth so they can know all of their options for when they are ready to decide what career they want to pursue. Thomas has a great love for science and knew he wanted to be a scientist since he was ten years old, and he wants to share that love with others, especially with our youth. BUSINESS audrey gilBreath 2022 liVing legend aWard By: Afram News Staff

HOUSTON — Building a career legacy of persistence and achievement over more than 30 years certainly earns respect from your peers. One major example is Audrey J. Gilbreath, the recent 2022 winner of the American Advertising Federation-Houston’s Living Legend Award. Ms. Gilbreath is the 25th recipient of the Living Legend and the first African-American professional to win the honor from the 111-yearold AAF-H. The Living Legend Award recognizes the accomplishments of AAF-H members who have

built a consistent record of success over the course of their careers. The award is conferred after nomination by the Presidents Council and approval of the Board of Directors. Ray Schilens, chair of the AAFHouston Board of Directors, says Ms. Gilbreath epitomizes the most admirable qualities of the advertising industry. “Audrey represents an incredible commitment to not only her industry, but to her community,” Schilens says. “Gilbreath Communications exists as an integral part of Houston, what the

city is made of, and the incredible diversity we have here. Audrey represents the most beautiful things about our industry, well above and beyond, while crafting great work with great dedication.” Ms. Gilbreath vividly recalls what first led her to pursue a career in advertising and eventually, to start her own company. “My first passion for advertising goes back to working for PACE Concerts, now called PACE Entertainment.
