Issue 23’s articles include a guide to diving the Azores. And if the images are anything to go by, you’ll want to book your trip immediately. This is the place for big blue diving and big animal encounters. It looks exciting and is pretty undiscovered by tourists. We feature two conservation articles this month. One on the important, but little known, shifting baseline syndrome – somewhat of a blinding flash of the obvious, when you read the article. The other is on a memorial for sharks and other marine animals that die in shark nets annually of the coast of KwaZulu Natal. Shark nets are used extensively in South Africa and Australia and despite being billed as safety for bathers are, in truth, legalized fishing devices for sharks. Our women and diving section features Georgina Jones, one of our regular contributors. Georgina has a passion for the marine creatures of the Cape and this article examines her passion. Aaron Gekoski is a photographer on a mission.
