Kidero vows to sack More corrupt city council officers By Africaworld

N

airobi County Governor Evans Kidero has vowed to sack all officials who will be involved engaging themselves in corruption. According to Kidero some of inspectorates receive bribes from hawkers who then allow them to flock in the streets hawking despite the order to bar

them from conducting business in city center. “I will continue sacking them until I remain with people who are interested in serving this great city,” he vowed.

This comes as business owners in city center continue crying foul over hawkers who have developed a habit of blocking their entrances and makes their business inaccessible. In addition the hawkers have been accused congesting the city center as well walking lanes and pavements hampering easy movement of pedestrians.

Education Ministry Introduces Research Bill for Universities By Domic Kirui

K

The government has developed Bill that will harmonize all public institutions that manage research initiatives and programmes, the Cabinet Secretary for Education, Dr. Fred Matiang’i has said. Dr. Matiang’i said this will ensure better coordination and collation of research initiatives among various institutions mandated to conduct research. It will help avoid duplication, the Cabinet Secretary said. At the same time, the Dr. Matiang’i disclosed that the government had set aside Shs.3billion for National Research Fund aimed at facilitating research for the advancement of science, technology and innovation in the country. The Cabinet Secretary made these remarks during the official opening of a two-day symposium on managing university research and publications at the Kenya School of Government (KSG), yesterday. The symposium attracted University academicians and administrators. The CS was flanked by the Principal Secretary for University (Higher) Education, Prof. Collete Suda, and the Chairman for the Commission

for University Education, Prof. Peter Thairu, and Secretary/CEO for CUE, Prof. David Some. Dr. Matiang’i underscored the importance of research saying they provided the basis for the policy making. “You cannot have quality policies without evidence that comes from research,” the Cabinet Secretary noted. He challenged research institutions to ensure that research findings were disseminated to guide policy and opinion makers.

“Universities must set up new standards of excellence to for graduate programmes to safeguard the provision of quality higher education.” He said the institutions should also work closely with professional organisations to maintain high standards of training the professional organisations require. He expressed concern that some universities admitted students into certain academic and professional programmes that did not have the entry qualifications for such programmes. He said the reservations professional associations made were done in good faith.

He said research may not be helpful if we don’t disseminate. “Research cannot be done in a vacuum,” he added.

He said Universities should work with them to avoid hurting the quality and training that provide.

At the same time, Dr. Matiang’i challenged Universities to confront the problem of cheating in academic and professional programmes in the institutions.

Prof. Suda said higher education institutions should invest in research and build the capacities for research training.“Research is the foundation for universities,” Prof Suda noted.

He said there was chronic problem of plagiarism and

ot once but many times you have heard men bragging how their partners won’t survive without them on the verge of an affair or marriage. This usually happens when a lady decides to end a relationship or marriage due day to daily differences affecting them as a couple. Here most male tends to have a perception that once they broke up with their female partners it won’t last long before they come back begging for conciliation and probably start over again. Joyce Asego says she worked out of her marriage with her two kids when she felt like her marriage was at a stake and moved on with her own life. “My husband and I had differences. We would quarrel over petty issue and end up fighting. So it reached a point is said no, I won’t continue living with somebody who we won’t well a long,” said Ms Asego. She adds as she was about to leave her husband assisted her packing and at the same time scolded at her that she will go and loiter aimlessly but at the end she finally come back begging him asking him to accept her back. But that was never to be Ms Asego after settling for two My husband and I had differences. We would quarrel over petty issue and end up fighting. years she found another man who she fell in love with and agreed to tie a knot. When his estranged husband learn she was going to getting married to another gentleman he broke down and cried like a baby regretting as to why he did not played family head role and make peace with her wife and possibly take care and raise their kids

together. Martin Onsembe says he was not only harsh and disrespectful to her estranged spouse but also unfaithful to her. He adds that he used to cheat and he never regretted not even a single day. “I used to cheat on my wife. Her plies to make me desist from the practice fell on the deaf ears. It reached a stage where I would assault her physically whenever she questions me so as to silence her not to bother question me anymore,” “It went on like that, he adds, till my wife decided to leave me. But by then I did not see it as a big deal I only felt free at last, but my relief turned out to be short lived,” said Onsembe. He says two years down the line he was fired from his job after he was involved in corrupt dealings so as to get extra and quick cash to entertain women. “When my wife left me in the year 2013 we were having two kids aged 2 and 3. I come

to hear from a friend that when my wife left me she left Kenya for Dubai where she is currently staying and to make matters worse I heard she is married. Can you imagine that? Onsembe regretted. lifestyle in general as he used to while he was working. “I wish I would have invested the money I wasted on women. By now I would have been with my wife and kids. Indeed I would have been a happy man” he concludes Onsembe. According marriage counselor Nancy Muruiki says that most men have adopted the habit of looking down upon their own family for the sake of side dishes who turns them as a cash cow and once they milk them dry they chase them away like stray dogs. “Most men fall in the traps of cunning women who in turn milk them dry their wealth before dumping me. At this moment is when they start remembering about their wives and as well their family which they had abandoned for a long period,” said Ms Muruiki. By Eric Maranga

Sanity must be brought to schools It barely passes a day before we hear of school going up in flames. The cases of arson in secondary schools has been rampant and the trend seems not to end any time soon. Rogue students have developed the habit of torching learning institution whenever they feel their rights have been violated. To them this is the language they think the school administration will understand. This is totally wrong. The all energies they are wasting in setting a blaze schools they should instead direct it to learning. Schools are not entertainment zones but rather a learning centers which train them how to become good people in future and not hard headed individuals. And to teachers and administration the should treat students as less human beings, they too need to be heard.

the United States have thrown the whole world in into turmoil. The heinous deeds by the security officers towards innocent civilians have raised many questions than answers. Why on earth somebody who has been given a mandate to protect you, turn against you and spray you with bullets? Not because you have engaged yourself in a crime but just because of your skin colour till

when? According to Media reports over 1600 black people in this year’s alone have been so far killed by the police who are supposed to protect them. The cry for racial discrimination has fallen for so many years and the trend seems not to end anytime soon. It is unacceptable and it is totally wrong to end people lives on basis of races. That is the thing of the past. We are in the

21st century where sort of things shouldn’t be happening. Wake up from the slumber land. Not even protests or retaliatory attacks by armed civilians with the police officers in the fierce gunfire battle will end this; there is more than just that. It is well known that all security officers work on commands. Now the question here is whose command are these merciless and inhumane officers are working for?

LADIES,SHOW SOME LOVE TO HUSTLERS IN THIS SPONSOR ERA

how he is faring.A man feels wanted when the chick in question asks his boo about how his days was.It actually makes the man to believe in himself and to never loose hope in his daily hustles.

O

f late, the word ,’sponsor ‘has gained ground and penetrated the language of the Kenyan nation in that even the kids are aware of it the same way they can comfortably sing Jimmy Gait’s ‘Yesu ni sponsor ‘ song. Ladies are used to be given money by

the men in their lives Dads, brothers, boyfriends or sugar daddies who they nowadays refer to as sponsors. However,it is toughfor a brother to borrow and refund the cash later.I can even sense the raised eyebrows as I type this. I am talking about a young man in his twenties ,fresh graduate out of college ,to whom the

UNDERSTANDING

Picture : Courtesy word ‘tarmacking’ is not new .Besides ,he lives in a bedsitter in the outskirts of Nairobi and he can barely survive on the monthly payslip he receives from a Mhindi. However, the man’s long time college girlfriend landed a lucrative job in one of the top firms within Nairobi. The salary is sufficient enough for her needs but still expects the hus-

financial needs. Is it fair? Ladies, Men too need to be cared for.A struggling youngman appreciates and respects a lady with the following qualities: CARING Nothing smothers a man more than his lady who from time to time takes a few min-

utes during the day to call tling boyfriends to cater for her the boyfriend just to know

“Baibe,I am sorry i cannot be able to take you out as i had earlier promised. You see,it has been a rough week since I have not paid .The manager said he would do so on Monday..”This is a plea of a man to his sweetheart. The girl then says,”honey, i understand .We can as well go out next time.”Such a statement alone speaks volumes about her .It sparks certainty in the man that for sure he fell for a a lady who truly loved him for him.

LOVING Just The other day on my way home on board a bus from work, I overheard a conversation between two ladies. One of the ladies said that he was unhappy with his boyfriend. He spoke of how emotionally supportive her boyfriend was .The only problem was that he was not yet financially stable.I just wished she could just give the man just a little more time. Men appreciate when ladies for once appreciate the little things the man is doing .Be it that he carries you to the bedroom or even simply opening the car door for you that is enough to tell you that he still loves you despite him going through financial hurdles today. Therefore ,ladies for once show some love to the hustling male species.

Ladies: When your hubby or boyfriend stops being jealousy your marriage or relationship is as good as dead. By Erick Maranga

N

ot once or twice but numerous times ladies have been heard lamenting how jealousy or insecure their men are. They even go ahead to threaten or blackmail dudes with divorce, separate or end the relationship altogether. Here most women do believe when their partner tend to question them about something they see it as an insult, violation of their rights and do therefore would not want to hear none of it. And when see that are no they no signs of changing they situation they will opt out For instance for urban women ladies do hate

been asked when let’s say they are not at home where they are? Who they are with? Why they have come home late? They do tend to believe that their rights have been violated. They hate this with passion they tend to took it as a prejudice as far as they are concerned. In fact they call intimidation and do believe that the men who tend to question their whereabouts are old fashion dudes who are taking them back in the 19th century. Insecure men Yeah I do agree with you there are other men who are so snoopy who wants to monitor every move their spouses make the behaviour which not only irritates but also bore most ladies. They will even go ahead to check the text messages, call logs, log into

AFRICA WORLD NEWS 15 th July to22 th July Bulletin 2016.indd 9

all social media of their spouses to check what the people their spouses have communicating with them. Once they do not get what they are looking for they do go further to warn their wives or girlfriends with dare consequences once they shall catch them cheating on them. And for majority of women when it reaches at this point life threating experience they opt to call a marriage or a relationship off arguing it too much to bear hence opt to quit. The gentlemen And for reasonable men whenever let’s say they become suspicious about your movement they will tend to question you once, twice or thrice and if they get to they see you as his wife or girlfriend you are

becoming rebellious they tend to leave you to do as you please as they watch you. You go out have fun walk all the day and in the evening you can back and you find your man there he questions you nothing. Once you settle down you go straight into the kitchen you prepare him food you eat together and retire to bed together and he asks you nothing. Imagine nothing nothing at all and the trend goes on. What the hell is going here? You start wondering you even start doing things deliberately so as to provoke him to question but to your surprise he doesn’t at all utter even a single a word. You wait for him to question

till you now confront him accusing him of how he has changed, adding that he less concerned about you. You that start saying to him you are now nobody because he seem not to be interested in you anymore. And to make it bigger you now start questioning him whether he is seeing another woman. Though reasonable jealousy is good Reasonable jealousy is good for the marriage or relationship because it keeps it going. It is a sign of affection, caring, ownership, protection and appreciation. It means you are so precious and so important to that person in that he won’t allow anybody touch you or share you with someone. He will do anything to prevent anybody from snatching you from him.

Ruto hold Talks with Nkuruzinza on Regional Trade

By DPPS

Deputy President William Ruto has made a one day official visit to Burundi for talks with President Pierre Nkurunziza. Mr Ruto travelled to Bujumbura to discuss critical East Africa issues among them the signing of the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPAs) that allows East African countries export agricultural products to Europe without attracting tax. The two leaders also discussed the flare-up in South Sudan, which they said should be addressed immediately; the Somalia situation and need for Amisom to be strengthened. Burundi contributes more than 5,000 to the force. Regional stability They said stability of the region was important for economic growth and welfare of the people. The economic agreement is due for signing by East African countries next week after the Sectoral Council of Trade, Industry, Finance and Investment (SCTIFI) EAC agreed. An extra-ordinary council meeting of ministers responsible for East African Affairs met on 30 June and proposed that the countries sign the agreement on 18 July. All four partner states, except Tanzania, partici-

pated and agreed to sign the agreement. The decision by Tanzania not to sign the agreement, leaves the region, and specifically Kenya, at a great risk of losing revenue when exporting goods to the European Union. This essentially means Kenya’s exports to the European Union-mainly flowers and vegetables-will attract tax. Kenya exports produce worth Sh120 billion to the European market. The East African Community partner states negotiated EPA as a bloc since 2007. Mr Ruto said the development poses a great threat to the EAC Customs Union, which requires all partners states to sign the EPA in order to safeguard against the perforation of the Common External Tariff. He said: “In the event that the EAC does not sign the EPA as a bloc, all EAC partner states stand to lose generous market access terms negotiated under the EU market.” Stand to lose Mr Ruto said Kenya stands to lose more because its exports to the EU will attract import duties thereby threatening jobs, revenue, and relocation of industries to less developed neighbouring countries.

Namibia becomes first country in Africa to launch automated biometric identification system

By Eric Bosire Namibia became the first country in the Southern African Development Community to launch the automated biometric identification system Friday in the capital city of Windhoek. The system is used in the issuance of conduct certificates, which until now have been taking about a year to be produced. Once the 40 million Namibian dollars (2.8 million U.S dollars) system starts operating, conduct certificates and any other functions to do with fingerprints will be done within

two weeks in Windhoek and about one month outside the capital. The system that was developed in Namibia has two components- the fingerprinting and facial identification. Speaking during the launch of the first phase in Windhoek Friday, Police Inspector General Sebastian Ndeitunga said the system will eradicate corruption. “We need to be careful who we allow to operate this system we have to be very much awake and vigilante because they can also invent tactics to evades this system,” Ndeitunga said. 7/18/2016 7:44:13 PM
