After making a surprise visit to Kenyan on Thursday, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg suffered a major blow after one of his satellites estimated to be worth over Sh9 Billion was destroyed in Cape Canaveral, Florida. A
sombre m o o d engulfed the residents of Narok on Friday morning upon learning the death of Former Minister Wi l l i a m o l d Ntimama. The de-facto leader of the Maasai passed

In His Facebook page Raila Eulogized Hon Ntimama for passionately uplifting of his long deprived Maasai community and the community’s land rights. Through his passion for the welfare of the Maa in particular and other pastoral communities. “He understood that environment is life not only for pastoralists but for all humanity and he always spoke his Mind”, Raila said. On his part, President Uhuru urged Kenyans to mourn and pay homage to this visionary leader, and also celebrate his life and achievements. “Although Hon. Ntimama has left us, his inspirational life will remain a great legacy to his family and many others who knew him. We are privileged that he lived amongst us and we thank God for the time we shared with him”, he said in a statement. Ntimama educated himself and has one of the biggest home libraries in Kenya.

These Are The Days when anything can happen and we cheer By Mutheu Wendo

hese are the days when someone wakes up one day and a thought crosses his mind, that he can sharpen his machete, go on and butcher his fellow men, go home and spent the rest of his day playing darts with his friends. Gone are the days when killing of a fellow human was regarded as an abomination. in the past, if a man killed another man (men never killed women and vice versa) the punishment meted on the killer was revered by many. My grandmother told me that, once a murderer was identified, he was frog matched to the ‘elders’ court’ known as King’ole. King’ole was composed of 12 old men drawn from different clans and their leader was from the controversial ‘Aombe’ clan. The Aombe are known for their stubborn nature in that, one tried to curve a wooden short since the ones made of cloth used to ‘age’ so fast. He put it on but could not walk. King’ole’s verdict was final. The culprit would be told to choose among 3 choices of death: He would be blind folded, tied on both hands and legs, then getting abandoned in the heart of the dreaded Kiuu forest. Here, his death would be quick since the forests’ residents would have no pressure since their prey would be tied and helpless. In fact, children of the past never disobeyed their parents lest they be given away to ‘Mangala’. Get tied to a large stone and dropped in a 100 meter deep dam. Get hanged and his body thrown to the forest to be devoured by hyenas. (What method would you choose) This form of punishment would definitely shake even the worst killer in the whole
world. It did not matter whether you killed by accident or will. It was murder and the punishment was inevitable. Period. These are the days whereby murderers are arrested, arraigned in court, convicted then later freed for lack of evidence only for them to commit more crimes because, habit is second to nature. These are the days when shameless grown up men rape, defile and sodomize with so much ease that, even if they are caught, they know freedom here is bought by a few shillings. Parents of the victims are manipulated,
intimidated, threatened and coaxed to drop any charges or to sweep the heinous crimes under the carpet. Those who are daring report the matter and the culprits are arrested. However, after some days, they are freed and back to the society despite them being so dangerous. I asked my grandmother how rapists were treated. Once a man was convicted of rape, he was taken to King’ole’ s court and his punishment was permanent ex communication from the community. He was considered as ‘Itwa’, meaning, he was originally human who turned into a beast due to his unacceptable behavior. He was to stay in the forest

with other animals because he was considered a beast. He was also forbidden from showing even his shadow near human residents. Such a person was considered dangerous such that even wild animals avoided his company. If he had a family, woe unto his sons because they would all get castrated for fear of inheriting their dad’s ‘disease’. Dressing in these days has been used for many ulterior m o t i v e s . Many people (especially women) believe that, the more flesh you show, the more hot and sophisticated you are. In the past, and according to grandma, people used to cover only their front part with a small piece of ‘Katemu’. Katemu was made of different animal skins. The heroes of the villages including chiefs would wear ‘Katemu’ made of Lion skin to show fierceness and strength. Both men, women and children wore only that same attire, as I said, that covered only the front part. Other body parts enjoyed free air. My grandmother
continued that, sometimes, it would be embarrassing to see their own father’s ‘goods’ whenever a strong wind swept over and caught the old man off guard, lifting is Katemu up. Also woe unto to you if you were ‘endowed’ lengthwise and your Katemu is shorter. It will mean, part of your ‘item’ will be ‘out’. However, nobody touched the other. If thieves stole cattle or other properties, the victim would visit the village ‘Mundu mue’ (witchdoctor) who would use his powers to bring the thieves to him before 13 hours elapsed. Those who took the oath were the innocent ones. These are the days when caning and disciplining your child has become another person’s affair and concern. You as a parent can get jailed for ‘punishing your child’. These days children have total control of the family. Yes. Children have rights of dressing, drinking, smoking and choosing which schools they like. Girls are dressing has put Rihanna’s current see me through net gown into shame. And this is in front of their fathers. Long ago, daughters, never mingled with their dads. They stayed with their mothers, getting lifetime skills and lessons of making good homes and taking care of their husbands. (well let me not dwell much on this lest I be labeled uncouth and uncivilized). In the days of our great grandparents, there had places
of worship called ‘Mathembo’ where chosen priests, prophets and prophetesses to act as representatives of their people to God (Mulungu). During bumper harvests, the villagers would carry their best farm produce, livestock and honey to offer to Mulungu. If God was not impressed, there would be severe drought and famine for years until the ‘representatives’ begged Him for mercy. Mathembo were held in high esteem and if one fell on your land, you were to give up your land without the slightest pressure. Actually to would be a huge blessing since it was alleged that that you lived near God. Those who ‘joked’ with Mathembo were dealt with accordingly, including paying hefty fines of bulls and goats. These are the days when beasts get inside a church, shoot people to death and walk away as if they had a cup of tea in a cafeteria. Churches have been ‘defiled’ even by their own minister through false promises of miracles using the Name of the Lord, extortion and corruption. These are the days when men and women have a different type of blood running through their veins. I mean men used to discipline their wives and nothing like burning, stabbing, battering etc. wife batterers paid hefty fines to their in laws including being told to apologize to her by carrying her in his back even if she was 50kg heavier than him. My grandmother told me it seems these days the devil got married to many wives, had many kids and that is why these unbelievable things are happening today. How I wish we would borrow and adopt some of those day’s lifestyles and ways of doing things. We would not see people scampering for safety for the mere sound of a balloon burst.

However the recent allegations of corruption in the management of the rio team is unwarranted and uncalled for. It nis shameful for the CS. Kenya set to host Billionaires just after Facebook Founders visit By Eric Bosire ew days after hosting Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Kenya will next week be playing host to 3 more billionaires led by Microsoft founder Bill Gates Who will Be hosted by president Uhuru. According to State House Spokesman Manoah Esipisu, President Uhuru Kenyatta Is set to preside over an Agricultural forum where Bill Gates, Strive Masiyiwa, and David Rockefeller will be joining him early next week. In 2009, Gates who is a former CEO of Microsoft visited Kenya unannounced. The low-key visit saw him inspect health care programmes carried out by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation without many of those hosting him realising him. His arrival and that of the two other billionaires in Kenya later this week is a confirmation of the strategic

t was established in 1998 as a micro sole proprietorship enterprise registered under Mr. Mathew Mutonye. As a fast selling point in rice processing and packaging and Milling of rice, has grown tremendously since its inception. It also sells and packages Green Grams, Killing Sea salt,, soya beans among others. Julimats’ labour was manual in the production process. Products were produced and put in the market mainly 5-star Mwea Pishori Rice packaged in 1kg and 2kgs packets then eventually 5kgs packet. As time went by the range increased with the addition of 5-star Green Grams packed in 1kg packs, 7-star Pakistan Rice packed in 2kgs and Mwea Brown Goldbrown rice packed in 1kg. INCORPORATION. Julimatt Enterprises however overcame some of the hurdles it faced and made a step to becoming a limited company by guarantee named JULIMATT ENTERPRISES LIMITED on 6th November 2007 under the directorship of Mr. Mathew Mutua Mutonye and Ms Juliah Mukui Mwangi. Since incorporation, the company has been more recognized by customers and other institutions in the recent past due to its determined efforts to feature more prominently in the market and become a

The Saccos own a fleet of ‘low class modern buses’ that are not pimped with modern sound System with no designed Graphiti (Graphics) thus making them outstanding as poorly maintained Public Service Vehicles in the area. Also, they are not fitted with up to state of art Technology with Hi End Speakers. They have soft Music; especially Radio played throughout their rides. Hence giving unhomey rides to music lovers. Majority of their crew is made of disciplined, friendly personnel who use polite language hence good will between them and the commuters. The crew is mostly made of fervent youth whose main
aim to take commutters from one point to the other. The two Saccos, Eastleigh Sacco, Eastleigh Commuters own most of the Eastleigh Matatus who happen to oftenly use them. Most PSVs here charge between Ksh20 offpeak and Ksh50 during rush hours while normal hours the fare ranges between Sh40 and Ksh30 respectively. They pick commuters from Luthuli and Pass through Kariokor as compared to those of route 9 that Via NgaraPangani Route.

spiring entrepreneurs are always advised to start small. That, of course, is a good advice because there’s nothing as bad in business as biting more than you can chew. But in the case of Kennedy Owino Ndolo, the start of his music production investment wasn’t small but up to capacity, which makes me ask, why stoop below your level in the name of

Using basic equipment, perhaps not quite what other production companies would brag about, Kennedy is out to compete with the giants in business. He has worked with numerous artistes at various levels, two of whom have won awards that have not only earned Vidongeh Records a name but also skepticism. When did you start your Music Career? I started Singing at a tender age. But at that age I really didn’t realize my talent but as time went by I started by writing my songs and later went to record. Though I really liked all genres of Music. What inspired you into music? I would say music is a born passion which you are either born with or not. I just love all genres and expressing myself through Music. Though When did u record your first Music and what did you learn from its release I launched my First Album in 2013 with Cubix records. And when I released I learnt that by producing single tracks would enhance my Music. So in the following year I released another single with Still Alive records who were very
helpful indeed and Video was done by Sakata Media. It has been a long Journey in this Music industry but I am looking forward to a better future. You launched the ‘Sare Madre’ track tell us more about it I decided to record the ‘Sare madre’ meaning say no to
drug abuse and substance because I realized the community is getting lost into the drug menace. And as Christians we should fight and look for ways of eradicating the menace hence the song. Any challenges in the industry There are so many artistes who are worth but this does not deter one to excel in the Music industry. Hence it gives you the spirit to fight on; though you have to get quality music to excel as well for your Music to have a following. Also it is quite challenging in Kenya, to get fair airplay for our Music and I think the Government and other players to sanitize the sector so as to benefit all players. What drives you in your Music and are you thinking of any Collaboration with anyone? My music comes from the inspiration in loving God and my life experience. And there is something in the works because we are finalizing Collaboration with Isaac Wesonga so keep following and you will get more of it. Which famous musician do you admire and why ?
The list would be endless though, I really feel blessed with Bahati and Denno Music, their Music really inspires me a lot. I drive my inspiration from their music. My advice is when getting quality Music and the Message should be clear and précis, and with the help of God your Music will go far. You had formed a group of Gospel Musician tell us more about it Ok. This industry of Music has so many challenges, the group was meant to encourage and give local artistes a welfare platform. Though it was a great idea and it has to be disbanded due to self-interests that manifested in the group. enya men are the least likely men to have children with more than one woman. According to the new survey by Mencare, whose results would be disputed by many Kenyan women. Kenya is ranked above Uganda, Nigeria, whose men prefer trust and care from the same men, as well as Ethiopia to emerge bottom in the list of countries in Africa with a higher number of promiscuous Men out of the 25 countries surveyed in Africa.

Profit-making Template in Kenyan Comedy By Fred Mbogo

nder the title “The Duty to Show” Barlet’s (2000) essay throws its readers into the thick of a debate surrounding the monetary ‘unprofitability’ of the endeavor of film making. The argument that gains the greatest of currencies is that the creation of art in Africa is an expensive, almost worthless venture, since there is not much buying power in its citizenry. Entrepreneurs who go into film, television, or theatre productions often seek funding from external sources in order to break even. Theatre for Development in Kenya, habitually comes with strings attached. The end results are works of art whose sophistry, aesthetic appeal, and general taste is severely compromised by the anxious need to appease the funding organizations. Where artists are ‘unfortunate’ not to get funds from sponsors for their artistic projects, they scrounge for monetary, human and other resources from their friends, relatives and volunteers but more often than not, return home empty handed, haunted by the massive losses incurred in their projects. How then can such artists justify their work? How can the ones funded claim to be ‘doing well’ while they are steeped in moments of utter disappointment when their artistry is sacrificed for the often shortsighted needs of their sponsors? To come to terms with their daily struggles, Barlet argues, both these sets of artists shape a view of themselves as prophets, teachers and philosophers. Their art ceases merely to be seen as art but more as tools of emancipation,

The main interest here is to suggest that while comedies following in the mould of Vioja Mahakamani’s “internal” elements are seemingly successful, in terms of getting funding within the larger educationentertainment enterprise, or in terms of getting massive audiences when on live performance tours, they nevertheless are limiting in terms of potential. Producers, or investors within comedy are afraid of trying new modes of performance styles that while not immediately rewarding may open new frontiers that may turn the industry into a larger, more serious and eventually profit worthy enterprise. The argument here is that the industry will profit more if producers allow themselves to be risk takers and therefore experiment with new material or styles of acting. This will turn the Kenyan comedy industry into a more versatile venture that eventually will employ more people, earn greater profits as well as extend the boundaries of reception into discovering new audiences. Unlike other cities, Nairobi is surrounded by 113 km² (70 mi²) of plains, cliffs and forest that makes up the city’s Nairobi National Park. The city is filled with many things to do during the day and the night. Tourists can have their pick from numerous safaris (wildlife, cultural, sport, adventure, scenic and specialist), ecotourism tours, restaurants, culture, shopping and entertainment. While in Nairobi, tourists can also engage in numerous sports from golf, rugby, athletics, polo, horse-racing, cricket and football . Nairobi National Park, just outside Nairobi. This is home to large herds of Zebra, Wildebeest, Buffalo, Giraffe, Lion, Cheetah, Hippo, Rhino and even birdlife (over 400 species). Here you can also go on the Nairobi Safari Walk, an educational centre to make people aware of wildlife and habitat conservation. Also in the park is the Nairobi Animal Orphanage. Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage, close to the Nairobi National Park. This
Orphanage takes in elephant calves and rhinos from all over Kenya which were orphaned by poaching. Showing is only once per day from 11am-12pm (admission 500Ksh) and gives you a great opportunity to interact directly with baby elephants. Giraffe Centre, in Lang’ata right outside of Nairobi. The Centre breeds the endangered Rothschild Giraffe and has conservation/education programmes for Kenyan children. It also has many warthogs. he Kenya film board has warned that it will take action against the manufacturer of sex chat sessions, that was initiated in April, if the investigation revealed that they were breaking the law. Kenya’s best performance at the Olympic Games was quite well despite thechallenges. The team won 13 medals: six gold, six silver and one bronze. Team Kenya deserves congratulations for its gallant show in the face of the myriad of challenges and problems that its members have faced owing to the incompetence and mismanagement of the Ministry of Sports and the National Olympic Committee of Kenya (Nock). The sportsmen and women have shown remarkable perseverance and patriotism and have put the interests of the country first. As we welcome our heroes and heroines back home, the government must demonstrate that it is serious about tackling the chronic mismanagement of our sports by taking action against all the Nock and Ministry of Sports who failed in their duty of looking after the team here in Kenya and in Rio, Brazil. The confusion that reigned over poor training facilities and chaotic travel arrangements must be addressed. It is embarrassing that some of the kits meant for the sportsmen and women are reported to have been sold on the black market. Similar issues have assailed Kenya’s teams to other international competitions, yet they have never been addressed. It is time these problems were tackled conclusively and those responsible held to account.

Malava, who lost 3-2 to Rwanda’s Rusumo in the final in Huye last year, were dominant in the encounter staged at the Eldoret Polytechnic.
